Take it from someone who has a lot of chronic pain due to a genetic disorder - one injury can cause so many others.

My SI Joint frequently upslips and sends my hips into a weird offset rotation. I don't always notice - and then my muscles start to spasm and change, which causes me to have a slight S-curve scoliosis.

This in turn causes my neck to get out of whack - which pinches a nerve that leads down into my arm.

When my elbow and hand start giving me nerve pain - I know my hips are out of alignment.

Soooo - long story short - that fracture has probably been making you walk, sit, move, and function oddly - which in turn has been throwing off your body enough that the muscles are reacting - which lead to awful miserable spasms that can be more painful that any break.

So yeah, it probably does explain all of your pain.

A few rules about the hips (if no one has bother to help you - which wouldn't surprise me).

No twisting at the waist until your muscles chill. Meaning if you have to get out of your car, twist your whole body legs and torso together and stand up - rather than side stepping in or out.

No crossing your legs - even at the feet. Exacerbates things heavily.

If you sleep on your side - make sure you have a pillow between your legs, and one behind your hips/lower back to keep you stabilized.

Consider taking elemental magnesium (not the magnesium oxide you buy at a grocery store) - but something like this (I take 2 a day when I am feeling good - 4 a day when I am feeling like shit). It also motivates the bowels, so...score? It helps reduce muscle spasms that I am sure you are having after 7 weeks of compensating for such a miserable injury.
It also reduces the need for pain medication (which I try to avoid as chronic pain leads to dependency).

Good luck. :) Hope you heal up soon.

I love the product Natural Calm. It's a magnesium supplement that I take twice a day. I've found that upping my protein intake has caused me the same problems, even though I also get lots of water, fiber and caffeine.

Be forewarned you should start with a small dose and work up until you figure out how much works for you. Starting off with too large a serving will certainly clear you out though!

as far as I know, minerals are not necessary for the water to be drinkable; I’ve heard that the minerals do affect taste, however. if you do want trace minerals, this might be of interest:

Do you take a magnesium supplement? Did you change it recently? Some forms of magnesium are straight up laxatives. That was my problem for the first few months, and once I changed my electrolyte supplement it all went away.

I switched to one to two of these pills a day depending on if its a workout day or not, and it really helped me.

Sports Salt

Good luck!

OMG this happened/happens to me too - lots of good solutions! My main suggestion is to keep things simple and pay attention to your Magnesium in particular...

  • Spoon peanut butter out of the jar, directly into your mouth (my favorite is Skippy Extra Chunk, MMV but its only 4g per 2 TB which works for me)
  • Quest oven pizza (again, MMV but a whole pizza is 12g and feels so indulgent)
  • Homemade mozzarella sticks like this recipe from Low Carb Yum - dip in ranch dressing for ultimate comfort
  • Buffalo Chicken Dip - eat with a spoon and love every minute
  • Dove Mini Ice cream Bars - one bar only has 6g so MMV but, ice cream, come on...
  • Turn your ketoade into a cocktail - add seltzer water, pour into a wine glass...keeping on eye on your magnesium in particular (Natural Vitality Calm is my suggestion) will help with cramps/bloating

Sounds like a very powerful project, ED or not! The reasoning behind it would be very interesting to a lot of people. So many people fast for so many reasons. I've researched fasting and its health benefits for years (not ED related) and it's a great subject. Please drop am update here when you finish it!!

I'm not trying to give any unsolicited advice, but here are a few things that really help a lot of people (fasting for health, not ED) and myself get through extended fasts:

  • Go low carb for at least 3-5 days before you start. Less than 10-15 g a day. You'll put your body into ketosis while still being able to eat. That way once you start the fast you'll already be in ketosis and won't have to make that such fasted (which is hard).

  • electrolytes electrolytes electrolytes! Magnesium, sodium, potassium. Very important. Most people feel gross on a fast because they don't have electrolytes. Even very thin people still have plenty of stored fat and protein calories so it's not an energy issue. Your body flushes a lot of its electrolytes while fasted so you need to replace them. For magnesium I use this and love it: Natural Calm. It also has done calcium and potassium and its fizzy. For potassium I use 1/4tsp twice a day of Morton's No-Salt. It has 680mg per quarter teaspoon which is more than you can get from most supplements. For sodium sea salt is best. Even better if you use Celtic get or pink salt. A pinch or two under your tongue several times a day is great for an energy boost. Every time you have a fill quart of water, take a quarter teaspoon of salt. It makes a massive difference.

  • Water. You'll need more than usual, but don't overdo it. If you're peeing too much you're drinking too much and/or need more salt.

  • Sleep! Get your sleep! Take naps! If you're too tired this will be much harder.

  • Don't work out much. Walking, swimming, yoga is ok, but intense stuff is going to be brutal.

I hope this helps. The electrolyte thing is especially important. I've tried fasting with and without them and fasting with them is a million times easier and I feel so so so much better. Without them I couldn't get past 5 days and passed out. Not even kidding.

Good luck! Sounds likea great project!

Edit: too many autocorrect typos to fix now on mobile on a small screen. Sorry.

In the future I would buy

this magnesium and this d3+k2 instead. Cheaper and the magnesium's likely more effective.

You can take all three in the morning if you want. Magnesium isn't inherently sedating, it's relaxing.

The ones I would personally avoid is taking D or ALCAR at night, everything else is fair game.

If you wanna do D, K, ALCAR in the morning, and Mag at night, that's perfectly fine also.

Also if you're at all interested in taking a multivitamin instead, I'd recommend Legion Triumph (disclosure: I've had some input on it's design, not receiving any royalties or anything like that, though).

u/francis_hunter_brosh · 6 pointsr/Meditation

Magnesium has helped me as well, I drink [ this stuff ] and it's both effective and not gross.

u/mve1 · 6 pointsr/ketogains

Boom, thats it. So I'm a trainer and I use the keto diet when people wanna lose weight(it makes me look like a genius). Came across a girl named Bren, had your problem, was strict on keto and constantly worked out and the weight would not come off. So I went back over everything trying to figure out what was wrong, she had mentioned she had a Hypo-thyroid issue so I did some research on her medicine "Synthroid" after some quick googling I found out a lot of people taking it were gaining weight despite a low calorie high exercise diet. Just did a quick google on Thyroxin and guess what.....SAME MEDICATION.

http://mentalhealthdaily.com/2016/01/24/synthroid-levothyroxine-weight-gain-an-uncommon-reaction/

So I told bren to go off the Synthroid under her doctors care but insist she come off and had her take this over the counter supplement

https://www.amazon.com/Thyroid-Support-Supplement-Vegetarian-Ashwagandha/dp/B00M13NHFY/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1495410429&sr=8-2&keywords=thyroid

Bout a week after the weight started falling off again, I think total she went from 215 to 125 for a total of 90 pound weight lose. The last 30 wouldn't come off til she got off the Sythroid. Its the Throxin.

u/hellabryanstyle · 6 pointsr/fasting

Yes, I will take all the information you can spare! I know so little about this and I really just want to make sure I'm being safe above all else.

This is my potassium supplement, is it okay? It gives me diarrhea as well but I didn't know if that was just to be expected and nothing to worry about. Is it okay to take this and the magnesium/calcium supplement while I look for something else or should I just hold off until I have the right thing?

Also, is there anything else that I absolutely should be putting in my body in order to not die or have any other substantial negative consequences? My current plan was just the potassium, calcium, and magnesium. If you have links to the exact supplements I should buy, not just for these things, but for any and everything, I would very much appreciate it!

u/[deleted] · 6 pointsr/keto

My problems with the guy are: 1) His prices of supplements are insane. 2) He isn't a real doctor 3) He says stuff with no sources of proof. Like caffeine he said will kick you out of ketosis. Wrong, it can boost your production of ketones by 150%.

I just discovered these and they work! Pure Planet Sports Salts 1000 mg 90 Veggie Caps https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DA543JK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_54lKBbZVF24SE

u/rubixd · 6 pointsr/Fitness

When I workout fasted in the morning I do three things to prepare myself for and to get myself through the workout.

  • 1-2 cups of Black Coffee
  • 1 cup for cardio, 2 cups for lifting
  • Salt Supplement
  • Lots of Water
  • 0.75 - 1 liter / workout

Then, depending on the type of workout I will either fast until at least 1 PM or eat shortly afterwards.
u/StuffyMcFluffyFace · 5 pointsr/March2018Bumpers

Sorry you're dealing with that! I'm at the other end of the poop spectrum, lol.

If you're eating any high protein bars/shakes, cut those out. I second prune juice. Magnesium powder can help as a laxative and can't hurt in regular doses. Also fiber such as oatmeal, psyllium husks, or other whole grain cereals can help.

I usually drink a full 16oz glass of water first thing in the morning, do some stretches. Finally this yoga pose helps me get things moving - I don't know that it would help with total constipation but I'll get into it, making sure my heels are underneath my sit bones, stay there for about 3-5 minutes and maybe do shoulder stretches or something to pass the time, and boom, moves my system right along. I think something about the sit bones resting on the heels helps relax the pelvic muscles and lets the digestive tract get moving.

  1. After lots of research, barring pre-existing medical conditions, I've never heard any arguments against it that don't fall along the lines of "You should eat, because I want to eat, and I don't want to feel like my way is wrong or for you to remind me how little self-discipline I have." LOL.
  2. Fasting won't slow down your metabolism, but losing weight will! A smaller body burns fewer calories--you can't go back to eating your previous diet after losing a bunch of weight, regardless of how you lose it. Also, as /u/Eat_Like_A_Snake pointed out, extreme calorie restriction isn't the same as fasting--it can cause severe problems.
  3. As you start weighing less, it takes less skeletal muscle to move your body around, and less heart muscle to pump blood around your smaller body, so unless you strength and aerobics-train, that muscle that you no longer need will disappear--this is true whether you're fasting or not! Your body does need some protein daily, but there are lots of non-muscle proteins--like that extra skin you don't need any more--for it to recycle! No, fasting is not a zombie. It will not eat your brain. Your body just spent years stocking away the perfect fuel for you (fat) to survive on in the absence of food--body fat even has fat-soluble vitamins in it! Why would it eat your brain instead?
  4. As long as it takes? Angus Barbieri did it for 382 days--and coincidentally, the weight stayed off.
  5. This article contains specifics on which nutrients you need to worry about during re-feeding, but in general, it goes like this: Keep the insulin index of your food down until your stomach has returned to a size that can hold enough calories to fuel your body. Low insulin-index foods are foods which are mostly made of fat, or which have barely any calories. That said, I broke my last 21-day fast with Thanksgiving dinner. LOL. As Dr. Fung mentions, re-feeding syndrome is something which was identified in severely malnourished concentration camp victims, and is probably not a concern for healthy people.
  6. Your body needs protein, and that extra skin is a source of protein--so most of the time, fasting minimizes the loose skin, but occasionally, I'll read about someone who fasted and still ended up with loose skin, so maybe genetics is another factor, or maybe they're not fasting long enough to trigger autophagy.
  7. Ehhh, most medical professionals are knee-jerk scared of anything unfamiliar just like normal humans, and fasting isn't mainstream... yet. So you're highly unlikely to find one that will be okay with this. Before-and-after hormone/endocrine/nutrient panels might be interesting, though!
  8. I'm on Day 40, and here's my list of supplements: Garden of Life Multivitamin, Zhou Lyte Up (as needed), Now Bone Strength, Iodoral cut into quarters, and L-Theanine as-needed when the elevated adrenaline gets to be too much. All of these are fine on an empty stomach. Some cheaper alternatives I've tried are: Morton's Lite Salt is about half sodium chloride/half potassium Chloride; bulk Potassium Bicarbonate is super-cheap and flavorless; and you can take an Epsom Salt bath to get your magnesium. Like most other fasters, my fasting guru is Dr. Jason Fung. He has all sorts of YouTube videos, as well as the Intensive Dietary Management website, and a couple pretty famous books.

    More Notes:

  • The maximum amount of calories you can convert from fat per day is kg of fat * 69.4692 or lbs of fat * 31.5053. It's possible for a person to not have enough body fat to meet their calorie needs, so they'd have to supplement dietary fat. Body fat supplies around 7,717 calories per kg or 3500 per lb. Using this math, if you lost more weight than the calories you burned according to your Fitbit or whatever, or more than your theoretical maximum, it's probably either glycogen (aka "water weight") or food in your digestive tract. I keep losing that extra weight until Day 12-ish.

I started this one (sorry for the ugly link) three days ago. I need some serious help with this brain fog and exhaustion. I'm really optimistic!

I hope you update your n a few months- I'd love to know if they do anything for you. Good luck!

Sure! I use Morton Regular Salt (it’s important not to use iodized salt long-term because you can get iodide poisoning) and potassium citrate powder. I fill these vegetarian pill capsules, which are the same size as the Vitassium capsules.

The Vitassium label says in a 2 capsule serving there is 500 mg sodium and 100 mg potassium citrate. So, I figured out what quantity of my ingredients had those amounts, which broke down like this:

According to the labels of my ingredients:
.25 tsp salt = 590 mg sodium
.05 tsp potassium citrate = 100 mg potassium

Because I wanted to be able to measure out my ingredients with normal US baking utensils, I ignored the extra 90 mg/serving of sodium instead of calculating the exact amount of salt that would equal an even 500 mg in teaspoons. If you want to be more precise you can redo my math with weight instead of teaspoons, I just didn’t have a kitchen scale.

So, pretending that 590 mg is 500 mg, the milligrams of sodium/potassium per serving of my ingredients were already (roughly) the same as the milligrams per serving on the Vitassium label, meaning the serving sizes on the packages I had were (basically) the correct ratio already, but since I can’t measure .05 teaspoons of potassium with measuring cups, I multiplied both of the serving sizes until I had more convenient amounts to measure, which gave me my final ratio of 5 tsp salt : 1 tsp potassium.

So, when I make them I mix 5 tsp salt with 1 tsp potassium powder in a bowl and spoon the mixture into the capsules so the extra just falls back in the bowl. This gives me about 30 pills. But if I want to make more/less, I can use any measurement as long as it’s 5 parts salt and 1 part potassium.

These pills don’t necessarily each have exactly 500 mg sodium and 100 mg potassium in each 2 pill serving, but it’s comparable. A size 0 capsule holds 400-800 mg (.8-.16 tsp) and as I showed above, it takes .3 (.25 + .05) tsp of my ingredients to have 500/100mg. Two of my capsules would hold .16-.32 mg, which makes the serving/pill comparison pretty close.

Sorry for the novel, hope this helps!

edit: forgot some decimal points

Try these supplements: https://www.amazon.com/Pure-Planet-Sports-Salts-Veggie/dp/B01DA543JK

I use these whenever I do a longer fast and haven't had any issue, if you're looking for a pill (I also don't like snake juice/ketoade).

You shouldn't take the tablets you got because of the possible insulin spike (not ideal for a fast). Each pill is one gram of carbs, so technically you won't get kicked out of ketosis (you gotta have more than 20g to do that) but it isn't the best supplement for your electrolytes.

u/Sweet-Hereafter · 4 pointsr/xxketo

I haven’t needed meds in a long time, like years. I saw a bunch of neurologists and tried a bunch of meds, a lot of them gave me rebound headaches. But almost all pharmaceuticals are bound with fluoride, which bonds to magnesium in your body and increases your deficiency. In the end I was told, “oh it’s just hormonal, take pain relief meds and stay in the dark if you can.”

They did their best, but no one understood the real reason for the headaches, hence they had no ability to fix the actual problem, which was nutritional.

I buy mag chloride and electrolytes on Amazon usually. They seem to have the best prices. As long as I keep my insulin stable and take my electrolytes, I have no headaches at all, and if I feel one coming on during PMS or during high stress, I just take extra, nbd. Mag chloride completely stops my migraines in about 20 minutes, like a miracle.

I’ll link a couple things on Amazon, although there are lots of electrolyte supps to choose from, something else may be better suited to you. Good luck on your journey, I am happy to answer questions!

Firstly, I’m so sorry you’re going through all this. Fibro flares are agony. A good fruit to eat for potassium is kiwi- they have more potassium and vitamin C than bananas and oranges, plus they’re super tasty! If you’re looking for a magnesium supplement, be careful of the kind of magnesium- some can cause issues with your digestion. I bought one off of Amazon to try, and it didn’t hurt my digestion but it also didn’t do anything for me (I guess my magnesium isn’t one of my issues)- if you’re in the USA and want to try it, you can find it here: Source Naturals Magnesium Malate... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GFJJKQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share (mods, let me know if linking isn’t allowed and I’ll delete) It’s Magnesium Malate, which should be easier on the digestion. The only downside is the bottle is HUGE so if it turns out that magnesium isn’t your issue, you have a ton of pills still.
If you’re in a state/country that legalized medical marijuana, I’ve found that having some is one of the only ways to break the muscle spasms I get from my fibro. I don’t smoke, but I use tinctures, topicals, and occasionally cookies from my local dispensary.

u/wildcard235 · 4 pointsr/keto

I buy a bag of potassium (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0064GZPU4) and add a 1/8 teaspoonful to a drink each morning.

u/Teflonica · 4 pointsr/keto

You can buy pure Potassium Citrate Powder rather than relying on lite salt but be very careful with dosage and keep it away from kids. Don't listen to the top post stating that potassium overdose will only result in diarrhea - too much potassium causes fatal hyperkalemia.

u/traintrue · 4 pointsr/ketogains

alright here goes my exhaustive list of stuff that goes into my preworkout! i love to research the stuff that works, and then experiment to see how effectively they work for me, especially on keto.

  1. 1 scoop of pre jym from bodybuilding.com - just because i don't want to add all those ingredients (good compared to most) on my own and it tastes pretty good (raspberry lemonade). it does, however, have 4g carbs per scoop - https://www.bodybuilding.com/store/jym/pre-jym.html

  2. 1/2 scoop of optimum nutrition hydrowhey protein powder (about 15g protein) - fast digesting preworkout protein seems more logical than just bcaas. keeps me satiated during my workout and seems to boost recovery times because i have the full gamut of proper amino acids in my bloodstream as exercise-induced insulin rises. turbo chocolate and chocolate peanut butter are my favorites. vanilla surprisingly sucks and gets very foamy - https://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/platinum_hydrowhey.html

  3. 1 tsp curcumin powder from bulk supplements - expensive but 1kg lasts a long time - go to examine.com to see the dozens of benefits it has across the board. i use this to help alleviate my disc issues, but it feels great for workouts because it reduces inflammation everywhere, especially joints. you can get pills instead, but they're not as cost effective and i like to blend it into my shakes. MAKE SURE YOU PAIR IT WITH BIOPERINE (already in pre jym but super cheap anyway) OR GET THE BIO AVAILABLE TYPES. otherwise, only your gut will get the benefits -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GHY364A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

  4. 1 digestive enzyme pill - research has shown that such enzymes not only help with what you'd expect, digestion, but also boost muscle synthesis, immune system, reduce soreness, etc. - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RH5K26I/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  5. 1 tbsp extra citrulline malate - because 1 scoop of pre-jym doesn't have the clinical dose of around 8g. research has shown that it reduces soreness and speeds up muscle repair. i believe it helps performance as well - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EYDJU50/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  6. EDIT: 1/2 tsp (not 2 tsp) extra beta alanine - because 1 scoop of pre-jym doesn't have enough. this stuff kinda acts like creatine, boosting the number of reps you can do. especially helpful on my high rep/speed days. great for crossfit types of workouts if you're into those. i like the tingly feeling as well - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EIO4I8E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  7. 1/2 tsp potassium citrate - i take electrolytes before and during my workouts -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ENSA93S/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  8. 1/16 tsp magnesium glycinate - one of the most bioavailable forms of mg and doesn't mess up your digestion -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F7OZJR8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  9. 1/2 tsp calcium citrate - Ca and Mg go well together in the body. also, multivitamins rarely hit the RDA for calcium -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F8I5XPG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  10. 1/2 tsp pink salt - sodium! need lots of it because i sweat a lot - https://www.samsclub.com/sams/himalayan-pink-salt-5-lb-fine-grain/prod20131268.ip

  11. 1/4 tsp vitamin c - i take a lot of vit C to help with disc healing. collagen synthesis requires vit C. of course, great anti-oxidant, great for skin, etc. -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AYIM9Y8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  12. 1/2 tsp ALCAR - i supplement this mostly for the nootropic effect (boosts the brain and concentration), but it supposedly helps with fat breakdown and energy a little bit. i feel razor sharp concentrated during my workouts with this. also, it's just plain old good for the brain. -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E7H96DY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  13. 200 mg L-theanine - smooths out the jittery feeling from caffeine to provide more stable energy. also good before bed to get higher quality of sleep. -
    https://www.amazon.com/BulkSupplements-Pure-L-Theanine-Powder-grams/dp/B00E7GESLA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492089341&sr=8-1&keywords=bulk%2Bl-theanine&th=1

  14. 100mg pill RALA - good for the nervous system and energy - https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Stabilized-R-Lipoic-BioEnhanced/dp/B000I4C19G/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492089382&sr=8-1&keywords=doctor%27s+best+rala

  15. 200mg coq10 - good for the heart, boosts energy a bit - https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Absorption-Bioperine-Supplement/dp/B00HRGN36S/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492089466&sr=8-2&keywords=doctor%27s%2Bbest%2Bcoenzyme%2Bq10&th=1

  16. 320mg saw palmetto extract pill - good for men's prostate health, keeps good testosterone high (instead of DHT), and for me, prevents the hairloss that creatine (i think) has induced. not just bs bro science, go to examine.com for research. i personally have regrown a lot of hair by taking 2-3 three of these a day for the last three months! - https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Palmetto-Softgels-Count/dp/B006RQ6TAG/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492092375&sr=8-1&keywords=doctor%27s+best+saw+palmetto

  17. 1 tbsp psyllium husk powder - keeps my digestion on track, prevents the indigestion i tend to get from MCT oil - https://www.amazon.com/Bulksupplements-Pure-Psyllium-Powder-grams/dp/B0100QRXOO/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1492092483&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=psyllium%2Bhusk%2Bpowder&th=1

  18. 10g MCT oil - i either use brain octane or miCkey T Eight because they are pure C-8 caprylic acid instead of blends of the crappier acids. definitely boosts energy during long workouts. careful, it tends to mess with your stomach if you don't ease into it. if you're good with coconut oil, you're probably good with this. - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RUCHISS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  19. 100mg hyaluronic acid - helps with joints and skin. i have noticed my knee and elbow pain going away while taking this. skin complexion also improved. - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00663G8WO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You're not alone buddy. It took me years before I realized that I was well past the 'Just to relax' excuse.

Try giving Tyrosine a shot. It didn't pull me out of 100% of the withdrawl symptoms but it definitely blunted them a bit, especially the mood swings.

  • Magnesium - Buy on Amazon - Labdoor Review
  • Gastrointestinal side-effects, like diarrhea and bloating, are more common when magnesium oxide or magnesium chloride are supplemented, due to the lower absorption rates of these two forms. In general, magnesium citrate is a good choice for supplementation.
  • Vitamin D - Labdoor Review and Purchase
  • If there's only one supplement you're taking for your health and your diet is decent, it should probably be Vitamin D. I highly recommend taking Vitamin D instead of a multivitamin most of the time.
  • Fish Oil - Buy on Amazon - Labdoor Rankings
  • Fish oil provides a variety of benefits when supplemented, particularly when the ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the body is almost equal (1:1). The average diet (red meat, eggs, and so forth) are high in omega-6 fatty acids, which is why fish oil is recommended (to balance the ratio).
  • A ratio of roughly 1:1 is associated with healthier blood vessels, a lower lipid count and a reduced risk for plaque buildup. Fish oil can also decrease the risk of diabetes and several forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
  • It should be noted that fish oil can also reduce triglycerides in people with high triglyceride levels. However, it can also increase cholesterol, so care should be taken before supplementing fish oil for this purpose.

Note: The indented bullet points are quotes from the corresponding examine.com articles, not my words.

Those are what I take, though I've only recently started adding fish oil. You can find a decent article here with more information and other supplements to consider. If you're curious about more details information on supplements, definitely check out examine.com. It's a fantastic resource.

These are the two supplements I take that I've found work best for reducing cramps (Amazon Japan links, below):

Potassium (Citrate) https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B000BTA4DI/

Magnesium https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00E3S51HM/

Be careful, and properly check the label, when taking off-the-shelf Magnesium supplements bought here in Japan, as it tends to be mixed with calcium (in supplemental form), which could lead to some hearth/arrhythmia issues. At one stage I was getting regular, scary heart palpitations before I switched to straight chelated magnesium / magnesium citrate.
Regarding these heart palpitations, they basically never came back when I stopped / lowered my calcium supplementation and started taking vitamin K2 (which supposedly helps with calcium absorption, mitigate build up in blood [or something like that]). By the way, the best food source for K2 is, wait for it, Japanese Natto! Hahah. Or take it in supplemental form, found here:

Vitam K2 (MK7) https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00O4BQIQQ/

If you're eager to just try electrolyte supplements, you can find low sugar "Ion Drink" powders pretty easily at chemists. Be sure to check the labels to properly understand what exact minerals they contain.

Besides the drinks and powders, another method I’ve used is tablets. When I’m backpacking or on long bike rides in the Redding summer heat it’s easier to deal with tablets than fiddling with powder or having to carry special electrolyte drinks. This is what I use

u/jewellya78645 · 2 pointsr/keto

i use Trace Minerals Electrolyte Stamina Tablets. you can find it here on amazon and they also sell it at GNC. I take two tabs 30 minutes to two hours before i workout and hydrate throughout. The electrolytes composition helps with energy in much the same way that we believe carbs would do. Burning fat for energy requires a lot more assistance, i suppose. alot of folk on here talk about "ketoade" and various mix-in supplements. I prefer the ease of the pills.

Check out this page. Lots of the science behind it and really worth a thorough look.

I take one or two of these before I go to bed.

u/GetsEclectic · 2 pointsr/Nootropics

I would drop the vinpocetine:

http://www.longecity.org/forum/topic/23457-vinpocetine-ditch-it/

Try taking the bacopa before bed, it makes some people tired.

Maybe lay off the CILTEP for a few days and try supplementing some glutamine, did wonders for me.

Try adjusting your choline intake, too much makes some people depressed, but not enough will also make you tired and brain foggy. Too much will give you muscle soreness and possibly a headache from muscle tension.

You could try some n-acetyl-tyrosine and see if it helps your motivation. I wouldn't take too much though since one of your ADs is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Have you always felt this unmotivated, or is it a recent phenomenon? If it's just a recent thing, what has changed in your life that might have caused it? If it is chronic, and n-acetyl-tyrosine works for you, you might want to ask your doctor about trying ritalin/methylphenidate.

I would also try to get off the SSRI/SNRI, serotonin is depressing. There is a common misconception, possibly due to incorrect ideas about how MDMA works, that serotonin makes you happy. SSRIs actually increase suicide risk for the first few weeks because the excess serotonin makes you depressed. The anti depressant effects take a few weeks because they are due to physiological changes in your brain due to the extra serotonin.

Do you take a multivitamin or any vitamins other than D? Personally I think the base of any nootropic stack should include a good multivitamin, some antioxidants, and probably fish oil, although some people react negatively to fish oil. Not including any racetams or ciltep or anything purely nootropic, every day I take:

AOR Ortho Core

B Complex

Vitamin C

Vitamin D-3

Vitamin E

Fish Oil

Green Tea Extract

Pine Bark Extract

Magnesium

Calcium

Probably less important, but I also take acetyl carnitine, alpha lipoic acid, alpha gpc, glucosamine/chondroitin/msm, rhodiola rosea, eluthero sibricus, jiaogulan, mushroom product including reishi and chaga, glutamine, l-phenylalanine, creatine, coq10, ashwagandha, lion's mane, bacopa, and astragalus.

In addition to all that I take various nootropics sort of randomly as I feel like, including sulbutiamine, piracetam, aniracetam, pramiracetam, noopept, and forskolin/artichoke/hesperidin.

Last, and probably most important, get plenty of good sleep.

u/Luph · 2 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

I had some serious issues with that. And they became even worse the longer I was sober because I had strong feeling of having wasted my time and being a looser because of having been a drinker.

Besides of reading loads of stuff ("No more Mr Nice Guy" was an eye-opener for me) I also up to now take some food supplements which are very helpful.

Particularly it's L-Tyrosin and L-Tryptophan.

The first one will help your body to produce dopamine, adrenaline and nor-adrenaline resulting in a better focus and a more IDGAF-mindset and the second one will help synthesize serotonin and melatonine, resulting in a better sleep and reducing depression.

Positive side-effects are "loosing weight". I reached kind of a zen-state now. I am much calmer and don't think about my mistakes in the past more than necessary and if I do it's more in a constructive than a destructive way.

They are no drugs and won't cause any addiction.

u/oxygen51 · 2 pointsr/floxies

I initially think of detoxification in Floxies nothing. But everyone has to know that for themselves. I would rather help him to do his own detoxification better by eg. Milk thistle for liver, goldenrod, stinging nettle and dandelion for lymph and kidneys. Later, if you are much more stable, you can start with further detoxification. But that's just my opinion from the experience here and everyone has to decide for themselves! Please take care with all products that they are without additives, fillers etc. These include magnesium stearate, titanium oxide, silicon dioxide, all E's, magnesium salts of fatty acids. Soy and maize are genetically engineered. The NEM listed below (supplements) do not start all at once, but start with a base. The e.g. is my own plan. The base consists of magnesium malate and / or glycinate, depending on the blood picture, dolomite powder for natural calcium for 4 weeks), trace minerals, milk thistle, selenium as SODIUM selenite and the good Darmbaktieren. Beware of mercury pollution due to amalgam fillings or mercury / heavy metal poisoning. Sodium selenite combines with mercury to form undeliverable complexes. If you want to play it safe, you can test heavy metals with the HP or environmental doctor. Selenium, however, still needs our thyroid glands. You can try to get as much food as you can. Coconuts and Brazil nuts contain relatively much selenium, but not enough to remedy a deficiency. B complex and B12 as adenosylcobalamin or methylolcobalamin (NOT with amalgam in the mouth) Taking time of the basic NEM: Selenium sober in the morning 2 hours. later magnesium according to the manufacturer's instructions, you get diarrhea or palpitations half the dose (in case of dizziness and sweating please check the kidneys and reduce the dose, signs of kidney problems) At noon Vit B complex and B12 and Acerola Magnesium in the afternoon In the evening Trace Minerals Before sleep
go milk thistle In one-week increments, more NEM will be added. Never vitamins and minerals together. For legal reasons, I point out that income of any kind is your responsibility. Advice here is based on experience and research by Kerri Knox and Joshua Tucker in the US, who have worked with 2 doctors for many years and treat floxies. 1 . Gut: This is the most important step before you should even start. Because an unhealthy intestine does not absorb well / nothing. Especially with Leaky Gut we can swallow as much as we want, it will not be absorbed. Prebiotics are very important for the good intestinal bacteria. Inulin are fiber that the good bacteria love as food and thus multiply better. Creep in at low dosage; Flatulence at the beginning is normal. Here a good source of supply: https://www.amazon.de/manako-prebiotic-Inulin-1000-Beutel/dp/B003JTAAVI So that the intestine also good bacteria are fed, you can take effective microorganisms. In my opinion a true miracle cure, because one can do sooo much with it. Et al Cleaning, washing clothes, improving room air, rinsing, washing hair, animals and plants also benefit from this. Starting with 20 ml per day, you can go higher after 2 weeks to 2 x 20 ml. I order here: https://www.triaterra.de/epages/62153231.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62153231/Products/%22TriaTerra-aktiv%201%20-1000%20l%22/SubProducts/%22TriaTerra-aktiv% 201%% 20l 22% 20Flasche Or the omnibiotic products. But you have to know exactly which one is best and look over medicine fox, where they are currently the cheapest. Unfortunately, these maltodextrin contain what you should avoid. 2. Mineral deficiency My number one bioavailable and no diarrhea triggers are the Concen Trace Minerals from Great Salt Lake, Utah. Important electrolytes !! They are ionized and therefore optimal. Starting with 20 drops, increase every 3-4 days to 80 drops (1 tsp). Since they really taste very salty I always take apple juice, then you can stand it. Information: (not to order here, as much too expensive) https://www.deltastar.nl/trace-mineral-drops.html Source: https://www.amazon.de/Trace-Minerals-Research-Concentrace-Mineral/dp/B005BP5UCM/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_121_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=00MCMV92XHEWJ95G3HGH Dolomite powder (ONLY when calcium is low) Here we have calcium and magnesium in their natural form and in the best ratio. Divide the portion of dolomite into several and dissolve in a medium glass of water. Source: http://www.dolomitversand.de/4939/dolomit-pulver-ultrafein-1-kg I would combine both, whereby the dolomite powder only for about 4 weeks, depending on what the blood counts on the calcium value. Please do not be put off by the doctor with "ok". Because even if the value is in the lower range they say it's "ok". But this is a daily footbath with 2 tablespoons of magnesium chloride. 45 minutes at least, water at most 38 degrees Magnesium citrate can trigger histamine shots. Therefore, I recommend magnesium glycinate because it is bound to the amino acid glycine, which we need anyway for glutathione. MAGNESIUM TYPES Magnesium chloride: detoxifying, stimulates the metabolism and kidney function, for foot and full baths, and oil preparation optimally, can also be drunk as an oily solution / brine (tastes perverse) Magnesium citrate: Not recommended after it interacts with ceruloplasmin and interferes with iron metabolism triggers histamine bursts, contained in all major products from pharmacies and drug stores Magnesium glycinate: relaxing, is well received, helpful in leaky gut and nerve pain Magnesium malate: energizing, helps with fibromyalgia and muscle aches Magnesium oxide: very effective if you take several small doses throughout the day Magnesium sulfate: should only be taken in small doses, works best as a bath additive Magnesium taurate and orotate: protects the heart and vessels Magnesium threonate: highly effective after traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, nervous problems, anxiety and panic good magnesium: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B075KPSCVL/?coliid=I3H4BFWTPYUDIG&colid=312MTJBJ96PKK&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it 3.

Hey man. I don't grow anything but weed so I don't know much about your plant but in the flowering stage of cannabis if I get a bug infestation I used potassium bicarbonate (there's recipes and how to mix it online with soft water) or you could use the traditional Dawn dish soap spray which also works. Neem oil has previously worked for me too but what I had to do was place a bamboo stick in the soil and drench the soil so that all bugs go to the bamboo stick as it's free from neem. Next day I just remove the bamboo and that will usually solve it for me too.

If you have tried all these then I have no idea how you'd remove them. Sorry if I couldn't help but both of these methods would work on a cannabis plant. Good luck!

Your recipe sounds like it'll turn out well if all goes according to plan! You may want to add some sweetness back if it ferments dry, but you've got several weeks to figure that out and read the Wiki to get all caught up on the method and terminology to things like back sweetening and nutrient addition schedules. I admire that you're being industrious with your fermentation equipment, I wasn't brave enough to start fermenting with whatever I had on hand with my first batch.

If you think you'll stick with it, here's the equipment I used for my first batch. I highly recommend looking into it if you think you'll do another batch! (I apologize if you aren't in the US, Amazon is my go-to)

  • Hydrometer - $15.99 | You'll definitely want one of these first! It'll help you figure out when fermentation is done, plus it's nice to know your ABV when your friends or family ask "How strong is this?" (if you like to share)
  • One Gallon Glass Carboy with Airlock, Drilled Stopper, Polyseal Lid - $14.81 | A glass carboy could last you forever! These have done very well for me, and the included airlock will give you a great setup for less than $15. The screw-on cap is just an added bonus, I use mine when I cold-crash.
  • Star San 16 oz - $16 | This seems like the go-to sanitizer for the sub, and I use it as well. If you think you'll do several batches, I recommend going with the 32 oz size instead! It's much cheaper per ounce.
  • Campden Tablets aka K-Meta (Potassium Metabisulfite) - $6.08 | This will help you preserve and stabilize your mead before you bottle. Some people don't, but it's highly recommended!
  • Auto Siphon - $13.99 | This makes racking to secondary and bottling much easier! When it comes time to bottling, it's also really nice to have a Bottling Wand - $5.86

All-in-all, this is just about my current setup excluding yeast, yeast nutrients, and extra carboys and airlocks. The list above comes out to about $127.45 USD before tax, which really isn't too bad considering one gallon should yield just shy of 5 standard wine bottles! Most commercial meads I've seen ranges from $15-$25 with some exceptions (There's a winery near me called Oliver Winery that makes a mead called Camelot Mead that sells for about $8 per bottle. Very good for such a cheap mead, you can probably find it at Total Wine & More if you have one nearby).

Sorry for such a long comment! Best of luck in your mead-making adventure!

Edit: If you have a local homebrew store, I would opt for that rather than Amazon. Prices may not be as cheap but you won't have to wait for shipping, you'll be able to support a local business, and employees at homebrew stores are usually really helpful and they can recommend recipes and give you pointers. Nothing beats face-to-face interaction!

I specifically said magnesium citrate or glycinate because it DOESN'T give you the shits. The poorer quality magnesium (like magnesium oxide) can give you the shits. Read here for more info: https://rollsafe.org/mdma-supplements/

In terms of recommended magnesium I recommend: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctors-Best-Absorption-Chelated-Magnesium/dp/B00E3S51HM

And two tablets per dose. Then maybe a pair ever couple of hours, which sounds a lot for rolling but if you have a bunch before and after the club it isn't really too hard too do. Basically as per rollsafe recommends.

Also acknowledge that it comes down to how much MDMA you have ultimately. When i have under 100mg the magnesium means i have no gurning. If I have an all day bender and take 200mg I'll have a bit of gurning even with the magnesium (but substantially less than I would have if i didn't take it).

It comes down to what you feel you can reasonably do.

Also, if you're worried about the shits take some diarrhoea tablets in an unopened blister pack and have them before you drop. Never have i been questioned on those by any security, ever. Probably because they don't want anybody to shit themselves...

I’m Considering switching to this to replace NoSalt based on another comment in this thread:

The reason I use Redmonds real salt is that it had less radioactive trace elements then Himalayan Salt (which is all sourced from a single mine in Pakistan that didnt originally mine salt) and no microplastics like you find in regular Sea Salt. Plus it has a better potassium profile than Himalayan. They source it from ancient sea bed in Utah. Looks pink just like Himalayan. Learned all this from the book: The Salt Fix Dr Nic.

Its all good dude, for electrolytes I like to use capsule's like these. Makes it easy and you dont have to figure out ratios on your own. You can by them seperately as Magnesium citrate, Potassium Citrate, and you can Get Sodium from kosher or Pink himilayan sea salt. Sea salt is good because it contains other trace minerals as well. For Muscle recovery Glutamine and BCAA's are amazing.

I'm no excercise elitist either. We love doing bike rides to brewerys and back. I just save the recovery until i'm done drinking. I've found that to be pretty effective.

u/tynenn · 2 pointsr/ketogains

I would highly recommend tracking your first couple of weeks if not months on an app like https://cronometer.com/ that way you know exactly what you're getting (especially the electrolytes) and you can look back over time to see what did and didn't work for you. I personally prefer cronometer over myfitnesspal because the data is from "official" sources making it more reliable, and it automatically calculates net carbs.

As for my sodium intake I drink 1-3 "cups" of broth a day. I suggest a product like this: https://www.amazon.com/Tones-Bouillon-Cubes-Chicken-Ounce/dp/B00COCUM96/ref=sr_1_10_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1488304840&sr=8-10&keywords=bouillon or similar. This specific listing on amazon is a little weird, because it used to have 1.1g of sodium per cube but the ones that I got only have 850mg.

Potassium is regulated to only be 99mg per serving in the US (for supplements). I supplement my potassium with Potassium Citrate from bulk supplements: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENSA93S/ref=sr_ph_1_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1488305035&sr=sr-1&keywords=potassium+citrate and use a MG resolution scale. I wasn't very strict about my potassium until the last couple of weeks and I've noticed a HUGE difference in energy, mood, and concentration.

It'll take a little bit of time for your body to adapt and feel hunger again (especially for fats) I know when I start up Keto again it's hard for me to eat that much fat, my body just wants carbs. After a couple weeks I can eat more.

i got it on amazon. the base powder has an amount of potassium based on old RDA, so need to supplement if using it.
be careful if you get it, because you can accidentally do way too much. you’ll just pee off what you dont need if you get too much potassium. However, if you take too much at once or have kidney problems it could lead to overall too much body potassium which can be dangerous or even deadly due to arrhythmias. but yea i got it on amazon (link)

if you make a good broccoli cheddar let me know the recipe!

i made this before:

4 cup chicken broth
5 cup broccoli
2 cup heavy cream
2 tbs butter or olive oil
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
3 cloves garlic

which turned out pretty good. maybe could add in base powder and potassium with a bit of chicken and celery and water in place of the chicken broth for more protein and less salt

u/AwesomeAndy · 2 pointsr/keto

That's still more expensive. According to their labels, The liquid has 1.745g magnesium citrate per fluid oz. which is a bit more than the powder label claims is in 1/2 tsp. (1663mg) on the bag I got. The 17.6 oz. bag has ~300 1/2 tsp. in it vs. 10 oz in a 10 oz. liquid bottle.

u/duffstoic · 2 pointsr/Fitness

It's the magnesium that improves sleep, but only if you are deficient (which many people are). I just bought 250mg of Magnesium Glycinate which is probably the cheapest way to get Magnesium that doesn't have a laxative effect (Magnesium Citrate is even cheaper, but I don't need the assistance in cleaning out my bowels).

The Zinc is there in case you are deficient, in which case it will bring your T levels up to normal but not beyond.

The B vitamins are relatively worthless if you are already getting enough aka taking a multi-vitamin.

I know a lot of people say to avoid magnesium oxide because it's less bioavailable but I got overwhelmed too when I was first buying it so I just got it and stuck with it. If you're going the magnesium citrate route, always look at the serving size. Many of them require multiple capsules to get to the 400mg so they end up being much more expensive in the long run. I personally haven't used this one yet but it's in my shopping list since it's 400mg/capsule: NatureBell Magnesium Citrate 500mg,180 Capsules, Powerfully Supports Energy, Metabolism, Muscles, Heart and Bone Health. u/damaged_but_whole · 2 pointsr/Hashimotos

Thanks for the recommendations. Yeah, my supplement list is getting a bit more expensive. I have D3 and a good B12, but I guess I need to get K2 to help absorb the D3.

Also, I saw a lot of talk about Selenium and some other supplements. Eventually, I was able to find this Amazon best-seller for thyroid support with over 4,000 positive reviews:

https://www.amazon.com/Thyroid-Support-Supplement-Vegetarian-Ashwagandha/dp/B00M13NHFY/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1484843899&sr=8-1&keywords=thyroid

I checked out the reviews on fakespot and review meta to make sure they weren't fake reviews and they're not, so I ordered some. If you search the reviews for terms like "Hashimoto's" and "anxiety" you will see it seems to have helped a lot of people with these problems. It even helped some people grow their hair back.

IMO, this is what we need to do: fight the antibodies, not just replace the lost hormone.

u/CharlesP2009 · 2 pointsr/Hypothyroidism

There are plenty of "thyroid support" vitamins out there: This is Amazon's Choice for what it's worth. It's missing your desired vitamins A, C, and D though.

I’m also sensitive, especially after eating Chinese food which I just try to avoid now. I have tried Judee’s Gluten Free Potassium Citrate through Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Potassium-Citrate-Powder-300grams-Packaged/dp/B00UI9F01C?crid=9AF24HWC5O9Q&keywords=potassium+citrate&qid=1537464131&sprefix=potassium+&sr=8-15&ref=mp_s_a_1_15 If you have an issue with sodium you might also think about taking magnesium since it helps keep the sodium/potassium pump working efficiently across the cell membrane. If you have an issue with high blood pressure (due to excess sodium) the potassium will also help that.

>tried magnesium supplements with disastrous results. :(

So there are many different kind of magnesium supplements. I assume that you tried the same one I did at first, and had some... unpleasant "digestive issues". Magnesium L Threonate does not have that same effect!!

u/cereal_killerxx · 2 pointsr/idiopathichypersomnia

I know this post is a month old, but here's two things that have helped me:

Magnesium L-threonate passes the blood-brain barrier and acts as a nootropic. This brand works especially well. Takes a few weeks before you start to notice a difference.

https://www.amazon.com/Magnesium-Threonate-Capsules-Magtein-Bioavailable/dp/B01M4GM9R1/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=magnesium+l-threonate&qid=1556303976&s=gateway&sr=8-8

The other supplement is Acetyl L-Carnitine.

u/Mygaffer · 2 pointsr/suboxone

All the basics that help people stay regular. Eat a salad for lunch, the insoluble fiber will help with your constipation and as a benefit will keep your blood sugar stable and reduce your cravings for snacks in the afternoon.

You can try taking a probiotic, this is the one I'm using.

But you know what has seemed to really help eliminate my constipation problem, I mean totally eliminate it? Magnesium.

Not only are my poops no longer hard but they are many times actually soft. I recently decided I didn't like the direction my health was headed, got my blood work done and found I was pre-diabetic and had slight anemia. So I started hitting the gym nearly every day, eating way better, and supplementing. I did some research for supplements backed by science. The list I came up with was this:

Creatine Monohydrate

Magnesium (L-Threonate is supposedly better able to cross the blood-brain barrier)

Vitamin D3

Turmeric

Fish Oil

I've been taking all of this stuff for about two months now and between that, the better diet, and working out my energy levels are much higher, my strength is already improving a lot, and my poops are not hard anymore.

Right now I'm on a low dose of Suboxone, 2mg/day, so I'm sure that helps. After being on this drug for 11 years I'm a big believer in being on the lowest dose you can be comfortable on.

I don't want to get too off topic but this channel has been so helpful to me for to start improving my health that I'm going to link to the supplements video in case anyone else here finds it useful:

> Ever since I started this I have felt awful. Throat fullness/tightness, headache, fatigue dizziness & nausea. Anyone else have this problem?

Iodine alone without cofactors can make for an unpleasant experience, what you're experiencing isn't unusual.

I have a few suggestions, but I do not know what is in your chaste berry supplement and multivitamin so be sure to check them for selenium/selenomethionine so you don't take too much.

300-600mg magnesium (malate and taurate are good ones)

100mg B2 riboflavin twice a day (the yellow component of a b-complex)

500mg niacin twice a day (use inositol hexanicotinate, usually called "no flush" niacin, 500mg of true B3/niacinamide/nicotinic acid will ruin your day)

200mcg selenomethionine (be sure to check the multivitamin and other supplement for this, you don't want more than 400mcg in a day)

1,000mg Vitamin C (3 times a day)

1/2 tsp Celtic sea salt (Redmond Real salt works too)

I believe these will help you see a welcome improvement, this is a great baseline to start out with.

More info available in [Iodine by David Brownstein M.D.] and [The Iodine Crisis by Lynne Farrow]

Quick links:

[Magnesium malate]

[B2/B3 cofactors]

Take this advice with a grain of salt (or more lol). I'm only speaking from my personal experience and I'm not a medical professional

-Keep an eye on your blood pressure and keep track of highs and lows. Same for your pulse.

-Keep a journal to show your doctor next time you're there.

-If you are worried about low electrolytes supplements are an option. I take these

-Experiment with coffee. Personally a good cup of coffee can help to raise my blood pressure but it can also raise heart rate. NO ENERGY DRINKS!

-Pedialyde is better than gatorade for electrolytes because it has less sugar. Buy the single packets of it also and keep a few handy.

-Pickles are good if you need a fast sodium fix

-Try to drink 2 liters of fluid daily.

-If you get dizzy in the shower turn the water on cool and/or sit down in the shower. Do not take hot baths, use hot tubs, or use saunas

-Chug ice water if your pulse is high and won't go down. Like actually chug it. If you can't do that you can do other vasovagal maneuvers like holding your nose closed and blowing hard, splashing cold water on your face or a cold shower, or coughing. Be careful as you may go overboard and pass out

-Know your limits and don't try to push past them. Likewise if you feel like you're going to black out your instinct may be to fight it. Don't. Don't hesitate to time out of whatever you're doing to sit down.

-Stay in air conditioning as much as possible during hot or humid weather

-Eat small frequent meals instead of 3 main meals if eating large meals triggers tachycardia or bloating

-Avoid raising your arms above your head

Honestly seeing a doctor is likely only way to see a dramatic improvement. It took years of trying different med combinations before finding a pill cocktail that helped me. I didn't realize just how sick I actually was until then and looked back.

u/EgregiousWeasel · 1 pointr/xxketo

BRAWNDO.

No, not really. 1 tsp lite salt and 2 T magnesium citrate liquid in a gallon of water, add 1 Crystal Light packet (they're for 1/2 gallon, but are WAY too sweet at that conc.), then divide among 4 Powerade Zero bottles. I drink two of those per day. I also take two of these per day.

Before I started doing this, I was having muscle fatigue, brain fog, and my left eye was twitching like it wanted to leap off my face. Now I feel completely normal, which is nice.

u/BadKarmaUSVI · 1 pointr/keto

Incase you haven't found the answer yet, yes supplements will help with Keto Flue. Keto Flu is essentially from the imbalance and loss of electrolytes in your body. As your body transitions to fat as its energy source it drains the glycogen in your muscles... which in turns flushs a lot of water out of your system. This is why you have to keep up on the increased water intake and up the electrolytes - particularly Sodium Potassium and Magnesium.

Lots of the things I have been eating intentionally have higher sodium in them like beef jerky and cured deli meats etc so that helped. Add extra salt to your meals and if need be straight to some water throughout the day. Another popular remedy is Bone Broth or Bullion Cubes. Apparently drinking some pickle juice helps quickly if you are feeling symptoms as well.

Get some of the Lite Salt it will help with the Potassium which is harder to get especially from supplements as they are limited to 99mg per serving it seems. I chose to go with this along with a 1 a day Vitamin. You are having to increase these nutrient levels up above your former daily requirements... there are good youtube guides on the specific amounts you should aim for.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00117ZTOS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1

This may be controversial but if your macros are a little off as long as you are staying under the 20 net carbs you should be fine. Also depends on what your goals are. To add more fat include more bacon in your meals. Wrap other protein or veggies in it, have it as a side, crisp it up and use it as chips with guac :D Eating Avocados/Guac helps. Nuts/Seeds as snacks again are fantastic but careful as they are super calorie dense. When you cook dont be afraid to sop up extra oil and butter onto your plate. Heavy Creamer for coffee/tea/itself is useful.

Let me know how the rest of your first week goes!

Piracetam is a good place to start with -racetams and citicoline or Alpha-GPC are good sources of choline.

L-tyrosine is useful in cases of dopamine deficiency and should be taken with a B complex, or just vitamin B6, and no food for optimal absorption.

Edit:
Take the l-tyrosine in the morning on an empty stomach before you eat (500mg) with some B-6. Once you feel comfortable with the effects, try taking another 500mg one hour after your first dose (still before eating). I'm telling you this shit works wonders.

I'm sorry for your struggles, I can empathize with you truly. I've always known that I'm above average in intelligence (I'm not a genius, but I'm smart enough to do well academically). But in highschool I struggled a lot because of my ADHD and my depression/anxiety.

I don't know what kind of people your parents are, but if you believe they truly love you, you should talk to them about it. They're the only people in the world that are with you until the end, they want you to succeed and be happy.

As for physical anxiety/depression/inability to concentrate in school you may have to do a number of things. I'm not a doctor at all, but here are my suggestions:

  1. Adderall if you have issues focusing in class/ getting stuff done. Get a prescription from a doctor if possible.
  2. Seeing a therapist to work through depression. It's hard to do anything let alone succeed academically when you're depressed and that's a fact.
  3. Take some magnesium supplements for anxiety. It won't get rid of your problems directly but it will give you a clear mind so that you can deal with it more effectively. It also calms your mind down so you don't make mountains out of molehills over every little thing.

That I don’t know. Great question for your doctor, maybe along with testing for other electrolytes. Otherwise you’ll have to use your own judgment on what seems helpful.

If you do increase your sodium, it may be prudent to match it with potassium. You lose potassium when your body flushes out the sodium, and many people don’t get enough to begin with.

I haven’t decided on a recipe yet, but I’m making a new electrolyte mix. Probably with potassium chloride and sodium bicarbonate. Bicarbonate is an electrolyte as well (our bodies can produce it). At the right ratio I can get around 1:1:1 sodium, potassium, and chloride. Plus bonus bicarbonate. I might pair it with a magnesium drink as well, or buy the ingredients and add them to my mix. I salt my food heavily, so my electrolyte mix is mostly to fill in gaps and avoid imbalances. I’ll probably take 7-10g of the mix daily to start, which will only be a couple grams of sodium.

Hopefully that helps? I’m still learning about electrolytes.

I'm with ya on that. I have old pipes too and sometimes the water is salty and a simple 2 stage filter won't fix that and a 5-stage filter isn't economically feasible.

Also it's not Western countries dumping plastic so nothing you do will change the amount of plastic in the oceans.

You could cut back on the plastic that winds up in landfills by buying water in 1 or 5 gallon containers instead and adding your own trace minerals if you wanted to.

Hangover cure:

  1. 2-3 liters of water with some hydration salts included https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BP5UCM
  2. Alker seltzer

Pretty sure the drip in the article just contains salts as per #1.
I'm a pretty heavy drinker. The hydration salts are going to last me about 6 months I think, and a packet of alker seltzer costs about a dollar per dose. Much better value, and you don't have to change out of your pajamas and leave your house. Win-win.

Here is the potassium bicarbonate. You have to heat this as well to turn it to potassium carbonate.

As far as food-grade goes....I don't know that there's anything that separates food-grade from non-food-grade if it's just raw materials you're working with.

Anyway, you literally have to heat up the sodium and potassium bicarbonate to convert it to its respective carbonate molecule...people will say to put it in the oven and do it that way, but you can actually monitor the conversion if you do it on stovetop in a pot, so I prefer this method. As long as you aren't heating it to like 800 degrees, it should be safe to do (super heat it, and it can release not-so-great gases that are not-so-great to the human body. Your stove cannot heat it to this 'dangerous' temperature). When it gets hot, you'll start to see these tiny little volcano/geyers popping up in the powder. This is the release of gas as its converted to sodium or potassium carbonate. Stir it when you see that, and you'll notice the consistency of the powder get much finer.

It's gonna look like you're cooking crack, but don't sweat it.

When the bubbles stop, let it cool, and store it in a container (I use mason jars). Then I combine them based on weight percentage (1%) relative to the weight of the flour (I generally do 300grams of flour for 2 people).

When I say 40% hydration, I'm literally weighing the water to 40% of the weight of the flour. So i'm not really going by volume.

For this ramen, I braised the chashu in mirin, soy sauce (I used usukushi soy sauce, which is lighter in color and saltier), and water. But I normally do mirin, soy sauce, water, a slice of ginger, white part of a green onion, a smashed clove of garlic, and maybe 1/4 cup of sugar. I'll do it for 2 hours on stovetop in a pot, or you could do it in the oven for 4 hours at like 225 degrees, give or take.

I take it twice a day and while it doesn't cure the insomnia completely, it has done wonders for the achiness and restless feeling i get that prevents me from getting comfortable enough to fall asleep, and once I do fall asleep i seem to be sleeping deeper and longer than the one to two hour stretches over and over I was getting before.

u/the_real_casperone · 1 pointr/Fitness

Potassium is one of those micronutrients that most people tend to be very deficient in. Current recommended guidelines range from 3500 mg/day to 4700 mg/day.

The benefits of potassium in regards to bodybuilding/hypertrophy (apologies, as these are my current fitness goals, so my knowledge is focused in this area) are helping with retaining water in muscle for volume (like creatine) as well as potentially helping to reduce soreness and fatigue.

That said, if you're going to supplement potassium, and are only within 100mg or so of your target (in which case, you probably don't need to supplement), then you probably can get it with a food source (bananas for example).

If you need larger amounts, and food sources aren't feasible (for whatever reason), then don't go with potassium supplement pills; pills are limited to ~99mg/pill because highly localized amounts of potassium can be damaging to cells (note: I tried to find a more reliable source for this, but couldn't).

Rather, go with a potassium citrate supplement (I use the one from Bulksupplements.com through Amazon); it comes in powder form, so you don't have to worry about a highly localized amount interacting with cells (like a pill, which may rest on a surface of the stomach). You'd mix this with a liquid of some sort to distribute the powder (I personally put it in my protein shakes which are blended, so it's very evenly distributed).

Edit: 99g of potassium will kill you and no pill has 99g in it.

u/MYMAINACCOUNTOK · 1 pointr/carnivore

You're doing that for cosmetic related reasons or is it for balancing diet?

u/outcidermouth19 · 1 pointr/kratom

Powder, actually.

If you looking to purchase some, that product above is probably the best deal, you get a lot for your money (only need 1/4-1/2 a teaspoon to get more than enough magnesium for the day). Only downside is that is has a very chalky texture.

If the chalky texture is an issue, This product not only has no chalky texture, but it tastes great and is fizzy, so it's basically like soda. The downside though, is that you need a higher dosage. 2 teaspoons yields only 325mg magnesium, whereas the other product, even just 1/4 a teaspoon gives you 867mg of magnesium. Plus, it is a lot more expensive. But some people find the drawbacks worth it to not have the gritty chalky texture.

There is tablets yes, but I've heard several times that the powdered citrate form is the most absorbable.

Late response but muscle cramps are usually from a Magnesium deficiency. I struggled with this as well until I figured out the correct amount I needed to take daily, it's different for everyone due to differences in weight, diet, age, water consumption, etc., you may just need more than you're currently taking. I take 1800mg of Magnesium Citrate per day, 600mg in the morning and 1200mg right before going to bed at night. I fill my own capsules with this bulk powder to save money but I have also used this brand of Magnesium Citrate capsules. I'm a huge guy (474 pounds) and drink 1 to 2 gallons of water a day so keep that in mind when figuring out how much you need. Magnesium does other good things for you too like improving sleep and regularity. You can also kill a muscle cramp with 500mg of Magnesium Citrate and large glass of water in about 20 minutes, works like a charm.

Quite often the symptoms of anxiety have much more to do with biochemical imbalances, and less to do with psychological factors.

Psychological factors can, however, become an amplifier even if not the primary cause, which is why these are often deemed culprit.

Without getting into the details of biochemistry and specific chemical relationships involved in neurotransmission, I will simply say that B vitamins and magnesium have a strong connection to with aspects of brain function (more correctly lack of proper function) that trigger anxiety.

One of the most important of the B vitamins in connection with balancing anxiety is B12 (though B5 and B6 in combination with magnesium also help).

If you are vegan, vegetarian, or do not each much meat/fish/eggs you most certainly have low levels of B12 if not taking vitamin supplements.

Here is more information on B12 from NIH - https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminB12-HealthProfessional/

I strongly recommend taking Neurobion Forte tablets each day, which are essentially a high dose of vitamin B complex.

Did selenium alone help your hypothyroid and/or raise your T4?

I just got bloodwork done after a Rad 140 cycle that yielded no results whatsoever, either bunk or I'm a complete non-responder. Taking a break and planning a Test blast in a few months.

I had bloodwork done after the rad cycle, my HDL was crashed, was > 50 pre-Rad and 27 after (maybe there was something in the Rad?, liver AST and ALT were perfect though), LDL was about 150 before (high) and up to 171.

My thyroid is most concerning T4 at 2.9 ug/dL and Free Thyronxine Index 1.0. Lipid and thyroid bloods here.

I've been on TRT (100mg/wk) for clinically low test (150ng/dL at age 22) for a decade now. Several times over the years I've had low T4 and elevated TSH bloodwork. Most of the time when I had my TRT endo do bloods it was TSH only (No T4 or T3 panel) and they just so happened to be in range for that panel so according to them all is fine.

On an off over the years I have supplemented with a Thyroid support like this one One Body Thyroid Support, which has Iodine mcg, Selenium 200mcg, Zinc 10mg, Copper 200mcg, B12 150mcg, among other things.

I ran out of my last bottle a month or two ago and didn't think anything of it. With the above bloods just this week I've already bought more and started supplementing again. Was a support supplement ever enough for you without going on T4? Thanks man.

Thanks, I'm walking between 3 and 12 miles each day. The most difficult part was definitely managing bodily function--the first week or two nothing was guaranteed. Best advice I can give: trust no fart.

I also re-read the audio book of Mark Divine's "Way of the SEAL" -- it gives a bunch of exercises to build mental toughness and resilience. I've had little to no hunger/cravings and have cooked several highly aromatic meals for others: homemade pizza, seafood marinara, shrimp and dirty rice, etc.

Overall this has been an exceedingly positive experience my BP has dropped from 140/96 @ 78 bpm to 121/81 @ 74 bmp. I've gone from sleeping 4-5 hours per night with snoring interrupted breathing/semi-apnea (no mask or anything) to 8-10 hours sleeping like a baby. I'm waking up at 5 am before my alarm.

I can't give you the specifics on the nutrients/micronutrients. Here's my complete shopping list--I'm taking electrolyte pills and not using drops--these were recommended in another thread. It's good to keep those on hand, in case you feel any cramps or light-headedness.

Combination of pussy juice and spit can make handjobs feel really great, in my experience. If she can keep it nice and wet, she wouldn't have to spend as much time while she's giving you a blowjob with it actually in her mouth.

Obviously that's not ideal (although a good handjob can be really good, and sometimes I'd even take one over a blowjob, they're definitely not true replacements for each other), so you guys should do some research on jaw stretching and jaw massage techniques. It can help a lot!

Also, make sure she's well hydrated. Dehydration can cause issues like this. My ex girlfriend has a LOT of jaw issues and we had some pretty similar issues. I'm 6" by 6", by the way. She swore by that supplement that I linked you, and it definitely helped reduce the amount of problems we had with blowjobs (and her various muscular tension related health issues in general).
