The first thing you should do is get yourself a kitchen scale and start weighing individual items.

>Blades (Leatherman Wave multi-tool, 8" full tang fixed blade knife (KA Bar?), folding knife, portable sharpener, combo hatchet+hammer+crowbar, scissors? folding shovel?

Pick ONE, plus a sharpener*.*

>stainless steel water bottle

Titanium.

>Protection (two high-capacity 9mm handguns… make and model? How much ammunition for 2 weeks?)

Pick *ONE.* (Unless this is you.)

What do you mean ammo for two weeks? If you're moving from firefight to firefight over your 250 miles, you better have a pallet and a forklift. If you're just looking to pack some heat for light defense, maybe 4-8 magazines total. You don't want to engage people, you want to pop a few rounds off in their direction to keep their heads down while you try and leave the area. A firefight is an absolute last resort.

>Titan survivor cord

Gimmick garbage. Get uhmwp (spectra) cord and just get a small spool of fishing line, or a small ice fishing pole. They are more than enough to get a bobber and worm out from shore and drag in some pan fish no matter what time of year it is.

>Binoculars

Use a monocular.

>blood clotting granules

Sponges, not granules. Granules applied to a wound need to be debrided and can result in amputation of limbs because they desiccate the wound.

Depending on the time of year, your gear weight is going to vary significantly, particularly if you have to deal with weather that can get subzero. Considering throwing the shit into a sled when the snow flies. It's easier to drag your gear than carry it. Here are instructions for making a pulk sled.

I use this Solomark adapter with a Galaxy Note 4 in an Otter case. None of my co-residents have used an iPhone 6 with it, but it's fairly adjustable, and there isn't much of a size difference between those phones. It does depend a little on how thick your case is, but hey, it's only $13 and it's Amazon, so return it if you don't like it. Here's a sample image on a slightly older slide. When I take pictures on my phone, I usually zoom in to "crop" the photo.

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Cheap
  • Adjustable to the point where I haven't been unable to get a good image
  • Portable/storable (not sure how much that matters to you)

    Cons:

  • Adjusting it takes some practice, and it is sometimes difficult to get it situated just right
  • With my phone case's thickness, it is sometimes difficult to get the phone situated just right to see the whole field.
  • You have to make really really sure that the eyepiece is squeaky clean
  • It can be difficult, if your phone is heavy, to keep it stabilized on the eyepiece. My eyepiece has a little groove for rubber o-rings to protect your glasses, and this adapter hooks onto those nicely to support the weight of my beastly phone, but your mileage may vary.

The one you linked looks really nice because it's a pain to get the Solomark holder situated just right to get the entire field, and you wouldn't have to worry about keeping the eyepiece clean for images. But this one is really cheap, and it works.

    EDIT: more stuff.

The core material EDC, to me would be knife, light and cellphone. But cool keychain gidgets are really nice too.

So I'd say if you have a knife, a good flashlight would be next, then a backup knife and light (one is none, two is one). I like a multi-tool or SAK for my backup knife, and a keychain light for my backup torch.

(In case you're curious, after that I start considering footwear, gloves, hats and other clothing.)

(Sorry, I'm feeling a bit lazy, so you'll have to live with bare links.)

This one is pretty popular for keychain use: www.amazon.com/iTP-A3-EOS-Flashlight--Upgrade/dp/B006K5C2EG/

Fenix has single AA and 123 powered lights that are well regarded and compact:
AA: http://www.amazon.com/Fenix-E11-Compact-Lumen-Flashlight/dp/B005GW8UC2
CR123: www.amazon.com/Fenix-Compact-140-Lumen-Flashlight/dp/B005CWRB44

There are a lot of other brands worthy of consideration too, of course (Fourseven's mini, Jetbeam, Klarus, Zebra, just to name a few).

There are also a lot of much larger but more capable flashlights out there.

Keychain stuff is always nice:
I use these sliver grippers way more than I thought I would. The convenience of always having them around is unparalleled: http://www.amazon.com/UNCLE-BILLS-SLIVER-GRIPPER-TWEEZER/dp/B001KMSUA4
I've been thinking of getting this, I'm a little leery about that much stuff for so little cost though: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003A5E5IK
I love this style of keyring, but it's way cheaper on eBay: http://www.amazon.com/Vigilant-Gear-Aircraft-Cable-Ring/dp/B006ZSP1PA
Little one-piece keychain tools have become really popular, and I really like having a little prying and screwing tool always present.
The Gerber Shard is cheap but probably at least worth what you pay for it: http://www.amazon.com/Gerber-22-01769-Shard-Keychain-Tool/dp/B002ZK45IQ
This one has a bit more functionality, and is made of the magically delicious titanium: http://www.amazon.com/Schrade-Chain-Tool-Seatbelt-Cutter/dp/B004PQJ1QO

Keychain multi-tools can be good.
Here's one from Gerber: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006M9NIDO
Supposedly the build quality isn't as good as Leatherman's though: http://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-64010101K-Micra-Multi-tool/dp/B000JCN0FG

I'd also recommend looking for a glow in the dark lanyard.

A pen you can EDC is another "you're surprised how often you use it" item. I have an Inka and it's definitely alright, though a bit fiddly: http://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-Inc-Inka-Pen/dp/B001E6R6EM/
The biggest competitor is the classic Fisher Bullet Space Pen: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Space-Pen-Bullet-400B/dp/B000WGD13U

Something to write on is nice. I'm a real child of the digital age, but I still like having an analog recording medium on me. I prefer Pentalic's pocket size books to Moleskine's. They're a little thicker, but they have a flexible cover, and are usually cheaper. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/Pentalic-Travelers-Sketch-3-Inch-4-Inch/dp/B0025TZ35Q but I don't know if it's ruled or grid or what. I also prefer a bright color cover to make it easy to spot.

Continuing on the writing stuff matter, a sharpie and/or a metallic (ink) sharpie are nice to have. You can get sharpies with stainless steel cases too, which feel nicer to hold, and you're a little less likely to forget somewhere.
Black (dozen): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IFEP
Stainless Steel: http://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Stainless-Permanent-Marker-1747388/dp/B001V9LQLG
Metallic: http://www.amazon.com/Sanford-39108PP-Metallic-Sharpie-Permanent/dp/B00119QWCO

I think everybody should carry some sort of bandanna. I carry an off-brand buff (tubular bandanna) and an olive drab shemagh.

I like to carry a small baggie of what I call MacGuyver goods. Paracord (bound up in a hanayawa right now), some gorilla tape and electrical tape wrapped around a card, super glue, a sewing kit, zip ties, twist ties, rubber bands, safety pins, binder clips, and a few 1 quart ziplock freezer bags. (Like hell I'm finding links for all of those.)

Yet another "surprising how useful it turns out to be" item is a small mirror: http://www.amazon.com/Coghlans-Featherweight-Mirror/dp/B0047QV44O/

Whistles are useful for warning people of fire or danger, or calling for help, so I like to carry one: http://www.amazon.com/Fox-40-Whistle-Breakaway-Lanyard/dp/B00544UJC6

A monocular is fun to have on your person. This particular model is really great because of its super low minimum focusing distance, which lets you use it as a sort of loupe. In regular mode it's good for looking for house numbers or your car in a parking lot, that sort of thing: http://www.amazon.com/Brunton-Echo-7x18-Pocket-Scope/dp/B000FKMTBS

I think that's all I could come up with off the top of my head.

u/VocaMae · 5 pointsr/Hunting

I carry a Zeiss Monocular

The one I linked, though it looks like the one I have, I don't think that's the current model. I've had mine for more than ten years. For 100-200 yards, it's all I need. Wouldn't recommend it for longer range, but it's light and is about the size of a magic marker.

u/Kid__A__ · 3 pointsr/telescopes

The tricky part is trying to get the projected image coming out of the eyepiece to go right into the cameraphone lens- you'll need to make small adjustments to make that happen and with the suction cups on that one it'll be impossible and frustrating. I feel like even if you get it right, pressing down to make the cups adhere with throw it off. Something like this is better- https://www.amazon.com/Solomark-Universal-Phone-Adapter-Mount/dp/B01DZ45CPA/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1479097442&sr=8-10&keywords=telescope+smartphone+adapter

Get that PSU instead, the VS ones are pretty bad

u/Lacey_Rosehips · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Your system is very unlikely to ever pull more than 300w, actually. EVGA recommends 500w to be on the safe side and I'd personally go for at least 450w, but 700w is definitely unnecessary. Also, as others have said, that's actually a legitimately scary-looking PSU in terms of build quality, and I'm the kind to go easy on budget units.

If you want something with a similar price, the CX450M is the only thing one I trust, at least that I've seen from UK retailers. Anything else will be a fair bit more expensive, but the tier list linked in the other comment will generally not steer you wrong, though it is a bit dated and occasionally inaccurate (for example, it doesn't know about the CXM refresh that greatly improved the series' quality).

u/user10110010 · 2 pointsr/telescopes

Yes. Basically, these adapters have 2 clamps, the phone clamp and the eyepiece clamp.

The Gosky phone clamp has an adjustable width that accommodates mobile phones from 54-90mm wide.

The iPhone 7 is 67mm wide, and the 7plus is 78mm wide. The Gosky adapter accommodates mobile phones from 54-90mm wide, so you're good-to-go on that.

The eyepieces for your scope range from 33 to 41mm in diameter depending on the particular eyepiece according to this spec sheet.

The Gosky's eyepiece clamp accommodates eyepieces from 32mm to 62mm. Your scope has 1.25 inch eyepiece (32mm), but the back barrel (dimension D) ranges from 1.3 to 1.6 inches (33 to 41mm) so it should work ok, but it will be near the end of the thread of the eyepiece clamp.

Browsing Amazon I ran across another phone adapter by SBVONY with the same design but it's a little smaller. The SBVONY eyepiece clamp accommodates 25mm-48mm eyepieces. Your 1.25 telescope eyepieces are right in the middle of that range. I think this one would be a better fit.

Any other differences between the Gosky adapter and the SVBONY? About $7. hehe I'm happy with my Gosky adapter. The build quality is good. I got it to use with this monocular which has a large eyepiece.

If you go with the SVBONY, and I don't see why not, it actually suits your scope better, you could add a Bluetooth remote for $7. A remote lets you snap pictures without touching the equipment. This helps reduce vibrations, which is good.

The design of the Gosky and the SVBONY adapters is basically the same. You loosen both of he clamps, get the phone's camera in position over the eyepiece, and then tighten them up. This can be a bit tricky at first as you angle the phone to get its camera in position, but you get the hang of it. I took a look at the video of the Orion SteadyPix EZ Smartphone Telescope Photo Adapter and it has a better design that makes the setup easier. It has an auto-centering feature and longer fingers on the part that clamps down on the eyepiece. The only downside is it costs $90. If you're thrifty like me, go with the SVBONY unit.

Hello :-)

What is your budget?

Most cheap and small telescopes are utter garbage, sorry. "Small" and "Pocket" suggest a small aperture and flimsy mount. For astronomy, that's a deadly combo :-)

  • Binoculars. As /u/sflamel wrote :-) Even cheaper $30 binoculars such as the Cometron 7x50 are OK, but you get what you pay for. Still, a better choice than anything in the sub-$100 range.

  • Verdict: Yes!

  • $20: Astromedia Cardboard newtonian, plumber's telescope kit or Galilean kit (US). These work, are educational and fun to build. Overall they make more sense than a small telescope. IF the person likes to build stuff.

  • Verdict: Yes?

  • 50mm refractor. These cost under $50, but mount and accessories simply suck. Sorry. They might look like your normal telescope, and beginners will think: "This is great!" but they are not. Some start at 27 dollars. Even the ones from Brands like Celestron or Meade (e.g. 50az, 60az, 60eq) share some of the issues (stability, accessories).

  • Verdict: Please No.

  • $40-$60: Firstscope 76/300, Meade Lightbridge Mini 82 and similar.

  • Travelscope.

  • Those are cute small telescopes, but they do not show a lot. I used mine a couple of nights, but moved on. They have flawed optics making them less ideal for planets, and for wide-field, binoculars are much easier to use.

  • Verdict: Firstscope/Mini: Maybe yes. Travelscope: Maybe No.

  • 70eq, 70az and similar telescopes: Mount often not ideal. They work, but 70mm aperture is pretty limited by today's "standard".

  • Verdict: Inspire or LT 70az maybe, but you can usually get a better telescope for a similar price-tag.

  • $70-$100: Orion Skyscanner 100; Often $75 as "2nd" (used/refurbished) via Telescope.com. For that, it's a nice table-top telescope that already is more useful than the 3" table-tops. Still, it's not ideal.

  • Verdict: Maybe. Beats most, far from perfect.

  • $130 Dazzle 4.5. This is where it starts to get a bit better. 4.5" aperture already shows quite a bit compared to the other entry-level telescopes. It's not ideal for planets, but still outperforms all the cheap 3" telescopes.

  • Verdict: Yes. Better choice in this price-range!

  • Ignore all the 127eq and 114eq in this price-range. They either have flawed optics (bird-jones 114/1000, 127/1000; Spherical mirror: Astromaster 130) or a weak mount (All of them).

  • Verdict: Burn. ... Especially these and the smaller refractors can often be found for $10-$20 on the classifieds, because no one wants them anymore.

  • $180-200: Lightbridge Mini 130, Zhumell z130, AWB Oneksy (Europe: Heritage 130p). These are among the best entry-level telescopes despite some quirks. Other telescopes in a similar price-range are the Meade Inifnity 102mm (short, not ideal for planets, but decent otherwise), 90eq (decent but small aperture shows less), Orion xt4.5 (a bit more expensive, focal-ratio has some benefits compared to the 130mm table-tops, but it's price is close to a great 6" dobsonian). These might look like toys to some, but they are much less than an overpriced, bad, weak little refractor with 5 star rating on Amazon.

  • Verdict: Wow!

  • $300, $400: Skywatcher 6" or 8" dobsonian, Zhumell z8. Big. More expensive. Show so much more. z8 has so many accessories it's one of the best deals out there.

  • Celestron Nexstar 130 or 127 SLT: Computerized, but GoTo will NOT make everything easier for beginners. Relatively compact. 8" will show a lot more though.

  • Verdict: DO NOT get these. You will have tired employees all the time. They will stay up all night looking through their great telescope and come to work sleepy every other day!

    Difference a large aperture makes

    Size, Portability

If you where thinking of something like a small $10-$20 handheld monocular or a $20-$50 spotting-scope: These work well for day-time and the moon. They are pretty bad for astronomy though. Anything with zoom in this price-range is. And over 10x magnification is difficult to hold free-handed, during the night, when you try to focus on a small detail. It's tolerable during the day, but not for nebulae and such.

    &nbp;

TL;DR: "Turn left at Orion" or "Nightwatch" plus binoculars -> Best entry level set for beginners. Or at least the telescope in the $120-$200 range.

    Clear skies!

Maybe [this one] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-9020101-UK-CX450M-Bronze-Certified/dp/B01C3FFOHS) for a little more, if it's enough wattage.

u/ZeroPaladn · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The old CX (green-label) options were not terrible, but got a really bad rep due to the combination of their popularity and higher than average RMA rate (thus, a lot of people complaining about them).

The new CXM (grey-label) options are solid, though. Much better than anything else you've mentioned and highly recommended for a budget unit. Get this one!

u/thetoastmonster · 2 pointsr/monocular

Yeah I got a monocular and it's great. I have this one: Wingspan Optics Explorer High Powered 12X50

u/thelovelamp · 2 pointsr/telescopes

Sun viewing on the cheap! If you already have eyepieces, a box, and some tape, all you need to do is grab a monocular from your site of choice for cheap! ($10-$20)

Steps:

  1. Get a monocular. I went with a 16x52 from Amazon that I got for $13 bucks. I wish I went with this instead because it has more magnification. Might not need a barlow then.

  2. Take your monocular and place it on the end of a box, and trace out the end of the monocular with a pen onto the box so you can cut out a hole for it. The closer to the center of the end of the box is better, but you may need to offset the hole to the left or right if it's smaller (like a shoebox) so that you can also make a hole for you to look through. Make sure that the end that you actually view through is touching the box, not the other end. That other end points at the sun!

  3. Cut out a hole for the monocular.

  4. If you have a higher power monocular, this step may not be necessary -- Tape up your eyepieces to the eyepiece on the monocular. This has to fit through the hole in the box, so hopefully you don't have gi-normous eyepieces.

  5. Cut out a hole for you to look through. Make sure that you can look through this hole and not block the monocular from seeing the sun.

  6. Place your monocular with taped up eyepieces into the hole you made for it, with the outer end of the monocular facing away from the box.

  7. Point the monocular with box at the sun, and look inside the box at the same time. You should not be looking at the sun directly at any point, you should see a projected image of the sun inside the box!

  8. If the sun is blurry, adjust the focuser on the monocular until it isn't anymore.

  9. Profit! You may want to put something white in the end of the box to project onto, as the cardboardy brown doesn't look that great. A piece of paper or a paper plate work fine.

I have two recommendations. I got a monocular a couple of years ago and I use that all the time instead of binoculars. Much lighter and easier to hold than binocs. Don't get the cheapest ones, I got one about $70.

For binocs, I have 4 pairs but the one I swear by is a pair of Tasco 10x50 I got a dozen years ago. I don't know if the quality has decreased but it's only $36 on Amazon now. I keep waiting for this cheap pair to break or the lens to get loose or something but they're cheap and still work great.

I just checked. Mine is a no-name Chinese brand 12x50. It's no longer sold on Amazon but it's like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015CORKYM
I think they're all made by the same factory but just with different names. I would highly recommend somethihg like that because I've used it a couple of years and it's great for backyard birding.

It's only 12x50 but I'm not sure I'd recommend a bigger one. I have a high powered one but I only use it for stargazing because it's too heavy and the field of vision is too tight for birds.

A 3x magnifier on a flip aside mount to go with your red dot.

Honestly, a 1-6x scope like the strike eagle is more adaptable, but I think magnifiers are cool as shit, and you get true 1x distortionless sights when you flip it to the side.

u/Silver_Foxxx · 1 pointr/computers

It's not that your HDMI isn't working; your computer isn't working with the power supply you've installed.

You will need a four pin to eight pin adapter for the power supply to work. Take a careful look at the item and make sure it'll fit your power supply before you buy anything. You don't have to buy this item, but something similar will do.

Don't buy power supplies that haven't been reviewed by professionals. When you look at power supply reviews read the conclusion first to save some time. If the power supply looks promising, and it's recommended then read the review. And make sure the power supply will work for you as is.

This website says your power supply is 200 Watts.

It would probably be best to return the power supply if at all possible and get something a bit more reliable.

Vortex 3x is what have and is nice.

That's better, grey label is literally a grey label

This one should fit your case perfectly fine if the case fits atx psus which it should

Hey guys, I've had my build running for a couple of weeks now. I'm running a fairly simple home office PC (parts below), and am wondering if it's worth it for me to up the RAM frequency up to 3000mhz? I've unfortunately had a few BSOD's already (video tdr failure atikmpag.sys is the error code I get) and was just looking for a way to stop this from occurring

I have this one and it is ridiculously small and light. Does a good enough job for spotting stuff.

u/irrelevant_query · 1 pointr/guns

I should have mentioned that the rear magnifier has a flip mount. https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-VMX-3T-Magnifier-Flip-Mount/dp/B00BQWTC14

It is actually pretty sweet, but as you can see it would work much better if you have a rail that goes over the handguard as well.

u/Rb556 · 1 pointr/guns

I second the Aimpoint suggestion, but the PRO

Edit - Since you want magnification also, get a Vortex 3X magnifier to go with the Aimpoint PRO. Both could conceivably be had for ~$600.

I would highly recommend this one. It is modular so you don't have to have the extra cables if the case taking up room. I cant tell if it prime I am from the US bit i seams to have free shipping.

u/Laliy55 · 1 pointr/VeryCheap

How about this one?

u/ssris · 1 pointr/ar15

I was considering the Vortex Sparc II paired with the Vortex VMX-3T
for the 16" AR. Does anyone have any experience with these optics?

Also I'm looking for a lightweight reflex/ red dot for the AR pistol- any suggestions?

u/ltree · 1 pointr/pics

This is amazing! Even though I do not have a telescope yet, I want one for my binoculars. That would be awesome for wildlife watching.

Oh wait, I'm in Canada and it costs a lot more here, about 38 USD instead of under 15 USD :-(
Will have it in my wish list for now.

Edit: Found a similar one that has a more reasonable price when bought from the North. This one is less popular based on reviews so I hope it is as good!

u/giraffejockey · 1 pointr/birding

I bought it several years ago and the brand doesn't exist anymore. (Mine is a Polaris Optics, which I think was either bought or re-branded to Wingspan Optics) I think this is the most similar to the one I have.

with this PSU https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-9020102-UK-CX550M-Bronze-Certified/dp/B01C3FFOHS/

which will be about £492 total. Use the £8 to buy some generic mouse+keyboard on Ebay.

u/beardlessdeveloper · 1 pointr/buildapc

They don't sell the budget CPU you recommended, at least not at any merchant I recognise, in the UK. But when I went onto it on Amazon, it suggested the Corsair CP-9020101-UK. Would that work? And is there anything I should be looking for besides the watts?

My friend recommended the Zalman Z11, but I'm really just looking for a case that functions. Not bothered about lights or windows, so just a casual case would suit me.

And thanks for this!

u/bquinlan · 1 pointr/EDC

And even smaller... I EDC a Zeiss MiniQuick 5x10 Monocular. The only thing about it that isn't perfect is the price, but if you can afford one it is worth the money.

u/Spoot52Bomber · 1 pointr/ar15

I love it, the glass is really clear, the eye relief is nice and you can also adjust the focus, of course. For the money, I'm very pleased with it.

In terms of comparing it to the Vortex VMX-3T, which has the same price point as the Burris combo [$199], I would 100% recommend this one over it solely because the Burris flips out to the right (The Vortex magnifier flips out left, which will obstruct your view should you want to go with no magnification).

u/zxj4k3xz · 1 pointr/airsoft

In my opinion and experience, yes. Unless you can get a legit magnifier like Vortex.

Also i think i'm gunna get the Corsair 270R since it looks cool. Thanks for the suggestions.

This monocular telescope on my space & Nature loving son’s Wishlist

Or this dog artwork for my Animal loving mom

Or this book for my mom who has dreamed of volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for my entire life.

u/zenthrowaway17 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I would be a little worried about the storage size.

You can always buy an HDD later, but you could also buy an HDD now and buy an SSD later.

Depends on your friend's needs and when you might have an extra ~£40. But there are a lot of big PC games to consider.

Also, have you asked your friend about the case and fans?

That's probably the only part I wouldn't want to pick out for someone else without their help, just because personal taste can be so different. They might even like the look of something that's cheaper.

Overall though, looks very good!

If you decide you want to go for a slightly higher quality PSU, consider a Corsair CX450M or a be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM, both of which are also semi-modular.
