The problem is always going to be the amount of shit on amazon that makes it hard to find decent bikes. My previous neighbor bought one of these It spent over a year on his porch and I never saw it move. IDK why he decided he needed a folding bike in the first place, but he was convinced it was the best "do all" bike. "people race this same bike downhill" he said, because one of the reviews he read.

For all their faults, and LBS would have set that guy up with a more appropriate bike for his needs. Or at least not sold him a $40 bike for $700.

The wheels will be fine (or as fine as any are likely to be). Good question about the tires, though. Max PSI is probably around 90 and you're likely to need at least 125 in the back. The two bikes I linked don't have clearance for tires wider than 1.75" or so. I still think the stock configuration would work, but it'd be borderline.

Let me try another bike.

Steel frame, V-brakes, 27.5" 36H wheels with wider, heavier rims and 2" tires. I'd have recommended it first if I'd remembered it. These smaller-diameter rims are actually preferable, more lateral stability. Hence the interest in old mountain bikes (they usually have 26" wheels).

If you want to buy from amazon here's an entry level bike that will stand up to just about anything you wanna throw at it!

Skills With Phil did a torture test of a Raleigh Tokul 3 and approved it. Very good hardtail considering what it comes equipped with.

I am also a big fan of REI (outdoorsy type) but not of their premium prices. I'd first ask if you happen to have any friends that are experienced mountain bikers so you could get their help in finding something used as you will get decent components for $500. New is always hard at less than I'd say $800 usually.

The DRT uses a bunch of VERY entry level 3rd party components and an equal amount of 1st party, of which I am not sure of the reliability. However, as long as you don't start hucking too early, you should be fine on it.

The Raleigh Tokul 1 is about $450 and has a very similar spec but a better fork, more relaxed (and therefore stable) geometry on amazon here

Of those the third because 1x drivetrains are magic (okay not really,) especially for someone in Florida, but tbh they all appear to have coil sprung forks which is a bit... bleh.

You're buying Diamondback because of an employee discount right? If being on a woman's bike doesn't bother you and/or you aren't over six feet tall the Rely Trail might be worth checking out. Admittedly the component list is a bit of all three of those combined , but it's tubeless ready, has a one-by drivetrain, and most importantly, an air fork with slightly beefier stanchions. The 27.5 plus wheelset will also be the most forgiving - it's a great combination for hardtails with the larger air volume acting somewhat like a little mini suspension. Geometry is a little slacker/aggressive compared to the other options which means it'll be a little more confident on the descents, but a 68 degree head angle is still reasonable.

Mountain bikes can go over a huge amount rough terrain....and with the speed of a bike I don't have to go over rough terrain. I can go around. Someone with a 40 lbs pack is going to get maybe 20~30 miles in per day even less if the terrain is "rough". I can do that in 2~2.5 hours tops on my bike. I can easily cover 80 to 100 miles on my bike with a bag on my bike. With a 72 hour bag full of food and such it will take you 3 days to cover 60 miles. I can do that in a very pleasant ride in one afternoon.

Folding bikes fit in the trunk of your car(where my BoB is right now) not in your BOB. Your argument of putting a Bike in a BoB is absurd and your trying to make it so that you can be "right". Anywhere I can store a BoB I can store a folding bike. And they cost less than $140 on this website called amazon. You should check it out sometime. Here is a link to one.

I am not sure about your finances but $140 is not too expensive.
My route from my work to my home is about 16 miles. I didn't by a 72 hour pack at first because I didn't need one. I bought a bike. If EMP stikes at 5:00PM I will jump on my bike and be home for dinner. I also have a small pack in my trunk now because I'd like to have a few things with me.

I am also not sure where you live or how much you have traveled but there is a huge swathe of the american mid-west that is very very very flat. Now mountains there and easy to ride the bike offroad. Even here in AL I can easily offroad the bike. Skirting around fields is actually pretty easy. And anything I can't get through on the bike I can go around because I can cover 100 miles in a day of I really push myself.

This is the bike I got, on a 15' frame, and the wheels are 26'. I went up to the bike shop and he said it was the right size for me. I fully intend to replace the seat if it screws me up too much, but there is no way to tell until I've used it awhile.

I absolutely intend to stick with it, and I am still excited even though my whole body seems to perpetually be in pain and I am too scared to turn corners on it. lol. I'm not going to quit practicing as I want to be trail ready by this summer when we go camping. I think this is a big step toward greater fitness and I feel really awesome about being an active person instead of a desk potato.

I'm falling on love with freeriding, Is this the right full-squishy for me?

Diamondback Atroz (in large)

I'm riding strictly freeride park on this bike, and lift access DH. I like going fast and jumping. I live in the PNW and would be riding freeride trails at Duthie Hill and Stevens Pass. Your not going to find me peddling up hills, but a pure DH bike is out of my budget for a season or two.

I like this bike because of the price, it gets me on the trails and does what I need it to do. I want the base model rather than the comp, because the only thing about the comp that stands out to me is the fork, which I want to replace with an air fork anyway.

I'm 6'1 and 220lbs. Thoughts?

I'm really interested in the BBSHD and I went to lunacycle to check it out and there's so many addons and whatnot what do I actually need and what would just be icing on the cake?

Don't downvote me but look at a Mongoose (hissss) Teocali.

http://www.mongoose.com/usa/teocali-pro-20526

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M9ALTW2/ref=twister_dp_update?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Meets all your requirements except weight (because under 3k and under 30lbs is hard to do).

I have the 2015 Teocali Expert. Just got it last week and transfered over parts to convert to 1x, carbon accessories, wider bars, shorter stem, favorite saddle, etc., and it rides like a dream. Super plush compared to my HT+ and goes like a damn freight train without trying. Weighs just a hair over 30lbs with my parts and tubeless and still climbs surprisingly well. Not nearly as much peddle bob as I was anticipating.

I know the mongoose name gets hissed at here and, well, everywhere but if you actually give them a chance they make really good bikes and sells them direct online. Not the walgoose you think of. Check out some of Chris Akriggs. He puts them through hell as do the whole mongoose team.

factory diamond back and yes I know that a full suspension in this price range typically wont be great quality by any means, I'm just a beginner, if I do decide too keep at it I can always upgrade in the future.

Just build your own. That way you can get a decently equiped bike that won't have entry level tourney parts. Ill admit tourney isn't bad but for over k id go better. Also this way you can get a mid drive for half 700 bucks less than any other option. You are going to want a mid drive since you are taking it off road. I wish you would go regular mtb than fat bike 600 plus bucks and mechanical disc brakes is kinda bunk for a mtb. A plus bike gets you more bang for buck, Air fork and hydraulic disc brakes.
