This is pretty much how Republicans operate. They live in a world where they are sure Democrats are cheating which justifies their own dishonesty and they try to prove that Democrats are bad by doing the bad things they assume Democrats are getting away with.

They are brainwashed. This is a trailer for a fantastic movie I just watched on Amazon Prime called The Brainwashing of My Dad. I have heard that it is also available on Hulu. It really explains how we got here and what we are dealing with.

For the cost of 5 months of Netflix, you can buy it all on DVD.

...

But yeah, I still mainly use Netflix to watch the same shows over and over again, and among those shows are The Office and Parks and Recreation.

SyFy gets a lot of good shows but unlike FX they dumpster them pretty quick. Exhibit A: Amazon's new show, The Expanse!

> In their mind they have no reason to, they are financially comfortable and everyone else can just fuck off to them.

I found this on Amazon by accident looking for a different documentary...

I find that it helps explain the mentality. It doesn't fix or change anything (except for the guy who they changed, and his entire family and all of his friends I guess).

The Zeitgeist is hyper tuned to Russia, almost to the point of whispers. You can feel it walking around public places. The Coehn/Trump Klan is the wedge and hammer tactic. Plant an idea, make it up, whatever.. then just hammer it on Foxic (rhymes with toxic) News for a few weeks, see if it sticks, then put another wedge in. This is Putin's strategy to split this country. Watch Brainwashing Dad (FREE on Amazon with ads)

You can get the Laserdisc editions on DVD from Amazon. The DVDs have the 2004 remastered version, plus a "bonus" disc advertised as the original theatrical release. They're really just the Laserdisc versions put onto DVD.

It looks like not all of them are for sale directly from Amazon any more, but you should be able to find them elsewhere (including the Amazon Marketplace) if you're interested in them.
u/EmmaWinters · 12 pointsr/dbz

>I personally own all the original DBZ remastered DVDs [...] they also seem to be the worst option?

They're easily the worst-looking release, yes.

The "Orange Brick" DVDs were treated with an aggressive noise filter, the colors are overly-contrasted, and with the early seasons, excessive detail loss occurs during scenes with shaky picture. These aren't cherry-picked images, either. In fact, those aren't even the worst examples I can give.

>I considered maybe checking out the Blu-Ray Remastereds if possible because of the better cropping, but I also heard they suffer from some issues as well.

The Blu-ray releases suffer from similar issues that plague the DVDs (intense grain removal filters, 16:9 cropping), but have substantially better colors, contrast and framing. Compared to the DVDs and their automated center crop, most scenes on the Blu-rays were manually framed, meaning less heads and mouths are out of shot.

>The Dragon Box is an option [...] Unless they're available online for free (like officially, not piracy) that seems like a very unlikely option.

You're kinda out of luck there. The Dragon Boxes are currently a collectors' item, and go for a lot of money. I would recommend the Blu-rays to you if you're purchasing Dragon Ball Z.

>Originally I was just going to watch Dragonball Z Kai. But, I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable with the new dubbed voices to be honest, and I also kind of liked some of the filler

If script integrity has any importance to you, Dragon Ball Z Kai has a much more faithful-to-the-Japanese English dub than Dragon Ball Z does, and as a result, it is often recommended to those who do not wish to watch the series subtitled.

If you're already sold on the "original" dub and American replacement score, I recommend the Blu-ray season sets. But if you're open to some minor casting changes, I strongly urge you to watch Dragon Ball Z Kai. If you decide to watch Kai, you should know that the Majin Buu arc has yet to be released outside of Japan. Because of this, you will need to switch to episode 200 of Dragon Ball Z after finishing episode 98.

u/evil-prince · 11 pointsr/TheExpanse

Here are few steps for non-US users to stream The Expanse, although they'd be still breaking the Amazon's T&C.

Step 1: Get an amazon.com account.

Step 2: Load balance through your credit or debit card - https://www.amazon.com/asv/reload/order?_encoding=UTF8&ref_=asv_gclp_bwd_pd

Step 3: Use a fake US address and set that as your default address.

Step 4: Buy the episodes & season pass - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018BZ3SCM/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Now that you're done, you can watch the series without a VPN. Increase in digital sales, DVDs & Blu-rays are probably the only real ways to get Amazon on board. So do what you can.

The above is from our FAQ. If you know what you're expecting, then they're a decent buy. My option, if I were you, would to be picking up an external USB blu-ray player. You could either then rip them or watch them on the disk on your laptop. This would put you at an additional $40 dollars or so, but you could always try to find a cheaper drive.

My recommendations from books I read in the last year or so (yes, these are all VERY STRONG recommends curated from ~100 books in the last year) -

Science fiction-

Derek Kunsken's The Quantum Magician (I would describe it as a cross between Oceans Eleven with some not-too-Hard Science Fiction. Apparently will be a series, but is perfectly fine as a standalone novel).

Cixin Lu's very popular Three Body Problem series (Mixes cleverly politics, sociology, psychology and science fiction)

James A Corey's The Expanse Series (which has been made into the best sci fi tv series ever!)

Hannu Rajaniemi's Quantum Thief series (Hard science fiction. WARNING - A lot of the early stuff is intentionally mystifying with endless terminology that’s only slowly explained since the main character himself has lost his memories. Put piecing it all together is part of the charm.)

Fantasy-

James Islington's Shadow of What was Lost series (a deep series which makes you think - deep magic, politics, religion all intertwined)

Will Wight's Cradle series (has my vote for one of the best fantasy series ever written)

Brandon Sanderson Legion series (Brandon Sanderson. Nuff said. Creative as always)

Manga -

Yukito Kishiro's Alita, Battle Angel series (the manga on what the movie was based)

Non-Fiction-

Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind - Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion (and how we are not as rational as we believe we are, and how passion works in tandem with rationality in decision making and is actually required for good decisionmaking)

Rothery's Geology - A Complete Introduction (as per title)

Joseph Krauskopf's A Rabbi's Impressions of the Oberammergau Passion Play, available to read online for free, including a fabulous supplementary of Talmud Parallels to the NT (a Rabbi in 1901 explains why he is not a Christian)

Audiobooks -

Bob Brier's The History of Ancient Egypt (as per title - 25 hrs of the best audiobook lectures. Incredible)

Academic biblical studies-

Richard Elliot Friedman's Who Wrote The Bible and The Exodus (best academic biblical introductory books into the Documentary Hypothesis and Qenite/Midian hypothesis)

Israel Finkelstein's The Bible Unearthed (how archaelogy relates to the bible)

E.P. Sander's Judaism: Practice and Belief, 63BCE-66CE (most detailed book of what Judaism is and their beliefs, and one can see from this balanced [Christian] scholar how Christianity has colored our perspectives of what Jews and Pharisees were really like)

Avigdor Shinan's From gods to God (how Israel transitioned from polytheism to monotheism)

Mark S Smith's The Early History of God (early history of Israel, Canaanites, and YHWH)

James D Tabor's Paul and Jesus: How the Apostle Transformed Christianity (as per title)

Tom Dykstra's Mark Canonizer of Paul (engrossing - will make you view the gospel of Mark with new eyes)

Jacob L Wright's King David and His Reign Revisited (enhanced ibook - most readable book ever on King David)

Jacob Dunn's thesis on the Midianite/Kenite hypothesis (free pdf download - warning - highly technical but also extremely well referenced)

Renewal is Japanese only I think, so if you want the dub, the best way would probably be to get the Platinum Collection for the series, and there is a box set containing both Death & Rebirth and EoE. Be prepared to shell out some major cash for both of these though.

Someone recently asked if Dragon Ball would ever make it to Bluray. To quote /u/VegettoEX:

>Asked often, but no real updates. For an actual HD release, someone would need to pony up and scan film masters. Right now, that would have to be Toei; FUNimation's current masters are digibeta tapes at best.
I mean, they could do an upscaled release to Blu-ray, but that'd be a lot more trouble than it's worth with their current materials, and if they crop anything else... (insert fist-shaking here)
I would honestly expect to see something from Toei on Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT in HD before I would expect to see it from FUNimation.

That being said, our FAQ in the sidebar has a list of your options when it comes to purchasing the series.

>##Q: What is the best way to purchase the anime?
A: There are many different ways to purchase the anime. While all releases of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT are in their native 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, most English releases of Dragon Ball Z were cropped to 16:9 widescreen.

>* For Dragon Ball, your best option is the Blue Brick DVD sets. [4:3 Native]

  • For Dragon Ball Z, your best option is the most recent Bluray set. [16:9 Cropped]
  • For Dragon Ball Z Kai, your best option is most recent Bluray/DVD set. If you prefer Kenji Yamamoto's musical score, you want "Parts 1-4" of the Part set. [4:3 Native]
  • For Dragon Ball GT, your best option is the Green Brick DVD set. [4:3 Native]

    >Other releases include:

    >* The Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick DVD set [16:9 Cropped], which are criticized for their aggressive filtering, over-contrasted colors, automated center crop, and excessive detail loss during scenes with shaky picture.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box set [4:3 Native], the now-out-of-print collector's edition which is considered by many to be the best DVD set of the series. Unfortunately, they run around $700 for a complete set on eBay, and don't include the American broadcast score.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Bluray Level Sets [4:3 Native], the now-cancelled Bluray set which was praised for its faithful colors, grain preservation and original 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • The Dragon Ball Z "Rock The Dragon" set [4:3 Native], which contains all 53 episodes of the original Ocean Group dub.

u/Mystic87 · 6 pointsr/dbz

For Dragonball you want the Blue bricks those are the uncensored version. Funimation haven't really been censoring it since the VHS days.

For Dragonball Z i'd go with Kai because it cuts out all the fillers and isnt slow paced unlike the original. Plus it stays true to the manga. You will need to watch the original at episode 200 since the dubbed version for the Buu saga hasn't been release. If you don't mind subbed you can continue with that.

As for Super i'd say it's worth your time, starts of a little slow and does get much better. You don't have to watch Battle of the Gods or Resurrection F as both those stories are being retold in DBS.

They were "actresses" in a series of movies produced by exploitation king Andy Sidaris. He made a series of "action" movies in the 80's and ;90s that were mainly a vehicle to cast playboy models in softcore porn. You got a lot of scenes like this, where in an ACTION movie, you would get a full three minutes of a woman changing clothes or getting a swimsuit on, or some other contrived reason for her to get nude.

There's only one way that I know of to buy pre-Z Dragon Ball uncut and in its entirety. You'll want to pick yourself up the Blue Bricks. The quality isn't terrible compared to the Orange Bricks. Don't forget about the movies.

For Z, you'll definitely want to avoid the Orange Bricks. The only good thing about this release is that it finally made Dragon Ball Z easy to buy without collecting endless DVDs. But the picture is botched up beyond being saved, and it's cropped to widescreen. Ideally you'd want to purchase the Dragon Boxes, but they're out-of-print and cost a pretty penny. Maybe check eBay if you're interested. You're probably going to want to go with the latest Blu-Ray releases. They're still cropped like the Orange Bricks, but they're a superior overall product even if they still aren't up to par with what we should be getting. Pick up the movies and Battle of Gods too.

GT is pretty simple. Buy the Green Brick. Like the pre-Z Blue Brick, the "remastering" didn't destroy the integrity of the product. It also comes with the one GT TV special. Yay!

And if you're interested in what order you should watch all this, check out our guide.

Are you swaddling? One of my kids loved it - we used the Miracle Blanket to make it foolproof. The second didn't care and just wanted to be held so we co-slept. Third was the magical unicorn baby that slept for hours at a time right off the bat without special devices.

Also, is your wife nursing/has her milk come in? If baby's only getting colostrum, he may constantly want to nurse to try and get the milk to come in, he may not have enough for a full belly to knock him out.

My husband picked up a few good techniques from The Happiest Baby on the Block. I highly recommend.

"It's literally impossible to see the theatrical cuts on video because they've never been released" is the biggest lie that I hear every day on the internet that I'm most sick of hearing. The theatrical editions of all three films were released on disc 2 of the "Limited Edition" DVDs in 2006.

Yes, it sucks that they're long discontinued and copies are super expensive. Yes, it sucks that they haven't been restored and remastered. Yes, it sucks that Lucasfilm only thinks of the original films as "special features." But if you're willing to spend some money or do some legwork (I've found them readily available at public libraries, and maybe people have had luck at yard sales and used record shops), you can watch the original theatrical trilogy at home, yub nubs and all.

I know it, feeling helpless was my husband's chief frustration. We were introduced to Happiest Baby on the Block (courtesy of La Leche) and it really turned our experience around because my husband had a 'job' that he can do himself.

The best sci-fi book series to come out in a very long time! The first book is Leviathan Wakes; five more have been written so far, and three more are scheduled to come out over the next three years (and the authors have been pretty good about keeping to that schedule, unlike a certain fantasy author we all know and love).

If reading books isn't your jam or you don't have time, there are also audiobooks some fans swear by. There's also a TV show which just wrapped up its second season, which you can get on Amazon Prime in the US and Netflix everywhere else.

If you like sci-fi that does its best to stick to actual science, space battles, political intrigue, and likeable characters who grow more complex with every book, I highly reccommend it!

u/dibbledabbledobble · 4 pointsr/Fantasy

Awesome. Shohreh Aghdashloo would make an awesome live-action portrayal of her. She currently plays the completely bad ass Chrisjen Avasarala in the great space opera, The Expanse.

You can catch it on SyFy, Amazon Prime. Definitely a plug. Great show. If you enjoy reading, you can also pick up any or all of the books by James S. A. Corey! Funny note.. it says "8 book series" yet the link says "7 book series". Sorry if any of the links are against the rules!

Dragon Ball is available on DVD on these blue sets http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Season-One/dp/B002FOQXTQ

Dragon Ball Z is available in it's entirety on DVD on similar sets but they are fairly awful quality (fake widescreen, heavy filtering applied, etc) http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Season-Vegeta-Saga/dp/B000KWZ1TI

Dragon Ball GT is available in a single DVD set
http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-GT-Sean-Schemmel/dp/B0063RE4X8

They've released the Dragon Ball Z movies on blu-ray, and Dragon Ball Z Kai is available on blu-ray, and they've started and stopped releasing the series previously with the Level 1.1 and Level 1.2 sets (no longer available). It looks like they are going to try releasing it on blu-ray AGAIN though http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Blu-ray-Sean-Schemmel/dp/B00F9IB1M4

I wouldn't hold my breath though. Funimation likes to start releasing a set and then cancel halfway through. Plus from what I'm reading it's the same garbage quality as the orange brick sets, only it's the 1080p version of it.

Here's what I'm considering

u/will-dearborn · 3 pointsr/PS4

calibration settings aren't an objective thing, they vary based on your model and environmental conditions. using simple calibration patterns and tuning even just brightness/contrast and saturation will yield better, more accurate results than copying values.

personally i recommend grabbing this disc: http://www.amazon.com/Disney-WOW-World-Wonder-Blu-ray/dp/B0045ASBLG/

u/rizoyt · 3 pointsr/xboxone

Calibrate your TV using this:

http://www.amazon.com/Disney-WOW-World-Wonder-Blu-ray/dp/B0045ASBLG

It's easy to set up, just make sure you take ~30 min to properly set everything. Depending on how much potential your set has, it'll feel like you're upgrading your tv.

EDIT: Get the blu-ray version, don't skimp out

u/davdev · 3 pointsr/hometheater

Get this and it will get you 98% there. Sure, there may be more a professional calibration can do, but that will run you a few hundred dollars. Try the disney disk first.

u/JediGameFreak · 3 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

Have you calibrated your TV? Rarely are the out of box settings very good. Just google HDTV calibration and there should be some online sources and/or blu rays. I use this for all my TVs and it works like a charm.

Get these DVD sets or

These Bluray sets.

They both have the option of choosing between Japanese and US music. Starting at episode 68 you will want to select US Broadcast Audio in the audio settings for Faulconer music. I would also recommend not getting the DVD sets and going for the Blurays if you have a Bluray player. The Blurays look much better.

u/kiln · 3 pointsr/Parenting

I think one thing that no one seems to be addressing is that your wife just had a c-section 5 days ago! Major abdominal surgery! Every day will get better and better because she is recovering more and more each day. She is probably still on the prescription painkillers and will be switching to ibuprofen in the next day or so. The transition is hard to go from the prescription to OTC. But then once you do it, it'll be better because it won't make her sleepy.

I highly suggest a co-sleeper (like an arm's reach co-sleeper). I know you said that you do not want to co-sleep. We did just for the first 2 months. It was SO MUCH EASIER to nurse during the night when the baby is next to you. It is totally safe and it is easy to transition to the nursery. You'll both get more sleep by not having to get up and go into another room. And the night feedings will slow down with each month that passes. I found that the 6 week point was a real turning point for me. Both with my c-section recovery. And with our daughter getting to an easier point. And breast feeding becoming much easier.

There is a great resource for help here on reddit: /r/breastfeeding
The book that saved me was Breastfeeding Made Simple

And the thing that helped my husband the most was the DVD, Happiest Baby on the Block. Also available for instant download on Amazon.

Hang in there!

u/Alliebeth · 3 pointsr/NewParents

My son HATED the playpen/bassinet we'd intended for him to sleep in. When he was one week old we watched the DVD Happiest Baby on the block and it changed everything!

He ended up up sleeping (8-10 hours starting at 8 weeks) swaddled tightly in this contraption next to our bed for 4 months before transitioning easily to his crib. We tried a bunch of different things before we got to that point, but once we found what worked at about 4 weeks, it was smooth sailing.

u/photodad · 3 pointsr/Parenting

You're an awesome employer. $400 for a baby gift (particularly one as frequently used and safety-oriented) is an amazing gift.

My wife and I bought a Britax B-Agile Travel System. Note that a travel system is a combined stroller, carrier, and carrier base for the car, which means they would be pretty much covered until their baby is big enough for a full-blown car seat, and the stroller will last longer than that. Yes, these really can last a while if they're well-designed and well-made, though as a recent first-time parent, I can't speak to how accurate "five years" is. I would reasonably expect probably about 2-4 years, depending on how you treat your stuff and how quickly your child grows. (Note that most of these are based on weight, rather than age.) The B-Agile system is good for 30 pounds, which is roughly 3-4 years, I'm told.

This system, once assembled, is incredibly easy to use, very beefy, and rather stylish. All of the wheels lock with a single foot pedal at the back, the front wheel locks against turning for mostly-straight tracks, and the wheels are all fairly large, which means it's easier to push on rough terrain or over small pebbles in parking lots. There's plenty of storage (with an optional organizer that attaches to the back), and it all clips together/comes apart/folds up very easily. It's really well-designed as a system that's easy to use and easy to move or adjust. The carrier clips into the stroller (until the little one is too large for it), and then unclips and clips into the car base. You then push a button and lift a handle, and the stroller folds literally in half for storage in your car trunk. We chose the red version because it's highly visible/recognizable at a distance.

As far as cost is concerned, Amazon has this for a little under $300, and we were able to get Babies R Us to price-match it. They had to order it though, as red wasn't in stock. I wouldn't recommend used as recalls do happen and you need to register with the company if you want to be notified about a recall. If you're looking for something else to use the remaining $300 on, you could get things like square receiving blankets that can also serve as burping cloths or swaddling blankets, a bouncer with audio and vibration, or a nice swing. I'd recommend Fisher Price "Snug" series (Snugamonkey, Snugabunny, etc.) as they're great quality, very sturdy, have great reviews, and a ton of great features. (Can rotate and reposition, has multiple sound and music options including white noise, has a rotating mobile, multiple speed settings, battery or wall plug operation, etc.) The swings will set you back about $150, the bouncers around $60, and the blankets around $10-15 for a set of 3.

If you don't want to look like an overbearing Daddy Warbucks in-law, I'd just recommend one "big" think (i.e. the travel system), and maybe a few small things like the receiving blankets, a portable bottle warmer, or a DadGear diaper bag or backpack, which takes diapering on the move to a whole new level. The bag is a little more than a casual gift, but might still fit.

If you want extra bonus points, buy them a copy of Happiest Baby on the Block which is a series of soothing techniques that stops a baby from crying in literally seconds. It sounds a cross between hokey and scammy, but it WORKS.

u/ixipaulixi · 3 pointsr/daddit

The "What Can You Expect" series.

Also...check out The Happiest Baby on the Block this DVD will seriously help to teach you how to calm a crying baby and will save your sanity/sleep.

Edit: Seriously...the methods can look really dumb, and you assume it's fake, but the 5 S's he teaches are like magic.

u/ichooseyounyancat · 3 pointsr/evangelion

There is one other release, the Holiday edition, a repackaging of the platinum collection. It has no advantages over the platinum collection and is pretty hard to find. Also, your link to "a very silvery version" didn't work for me but I assume it is the platinum edition with the aluminum box.

You heard right that the platinum collection has better audio and picture. The Perfect collection has no remastering so it looks noticeably worse. Some scenes have shaky or blurry visuals. Platinum collection did a lot to fix this issues.

As far as the different platinum releases go I recommend the slim/thinpack version. All around I would say it's the best release. It has the best audio and visual, the directors cuts for eps. 21-24, however there are zero bonus features. This isn't too big of a deal as the bonus features on other releases are things like clean OP, trailers, english commentary on a few episodes, so nothing necessary. Also the slim version seems to be the easiest to still find.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask anything else.

u/jumpshot22 · 3 pointsr/dbz

These episodes look like they have been ripped from the orange boxes. The dub you are hearing is the FUNimation dub with the original Japanese soundtrack. On the orange boxes, there are 3 choices: FUNi dub w/ Japanese sountrack, FUNi dub w/ Bruce Faulconer soundtrack, or Japanese dub w/ Japanese soundtrack. Whoever ripped the videos from the orange boxes must have edited out the opening and closing sequences for each episode and that's why they are gone.

Well, to be fair, you make a percentage if the click-through-er makes a purchase from Amazon within the next 24 hours. So, you click an ad for Bender's head before heading home on Wednesday night just before leaving work, you go home, realize it would be the perfect thing for your brother's birthday on Friday, come back to work in the morning and buy it for him while having your second cup of coffee. Boom goes the dynamite. Reddit makes $7.

And you know Amazon can be a black hole, especially if you have Prime.

Trust me go all in while it’s on sale, I paid more than this (like 50 bucks not full price) and every disk provides added laughs. Especially if you’ve hit the point where you have memorized the lines and cadence of Netflix rewatches; the deleted scenes are refreshing and the commentary is pretty good. Like listening to conversations with some of the actors and writers ( it varies each episode) sometimes they stay on topic and sometimes it’s just funny and you get to see a little of the personalities of those involved with the show.

I bought the UK version from Amazon.UK about a year ago. It is region free, I'm in the US and had no problems with it. On Amazon.UK its $56.54 after converting to USD and adding shipping. thats cheaper than either version on the US Amazon. When I heard about the US version coming out I did some googling and what I found suggested that the new US version is pretty much just a rebox of the same discs. the few minor errors weren't considered worth fixing for them. A light flashing blue instead of red when data takes over the enterprise, a planet rotating in the wrong direction, I can't even remember what the others were, but it's the kind of thing you only notice if you are informed about them ahead of time, or you obsessively scrutinize every tiny detail. Unfortunately I can't find the same info again to reference now. But since both versions are full series sets, and the UK one is region free and significantly cheaper, and even cheaper still if you buy it from Amazon.UK, my advice is buy the UK set from Amazon.UK and spend $42-$77 less on it. I've started checking Amazon UK for cheaper region free blurays before I buy the ones on the US Amazon, there are frequently cheaper identical or nearly identical sets on UK, just takes a little longer to get it delivered.

u/Electrorocket · 3 pointsr/startrek

The British edition is on pre-order, so I can't imagine the US version will be too far behind. I'm sure they don't want to make any announcements until after Christmas, so they can milk that sweet, sweet individual season money.

> most of the (Fox News) viewers are super successful people and smart in business. It’s amazing to watch.

Dude, WTF are you smoking? Don't confuse an exceptionally high viewership among the elderly with "super successful people and smart in business". Elderly people are notoriously fearful of any change and distrustful of minorities, so they like Fox News because it feeds these fears and distrust and tells them they're right and everyone else is wrong.

This is not something "super successful people and smart in business" crave. This is what your racist uncle craves, and just because he grew up in a better economy and has had longer time to save and invest doesn't make him "super successful people and smart in business".

It just makes him old, fearful and bitter with a better retirement account.

You admit though, that your dad really fell under their spell after he had a stroke, so you're saying that in his weakened, debilitated state he found himself more mentally susceptible to the Fox News messaging?

You've proven my point.

I really wanted to buy it..

Then I seen that season 1 alone was over $100 CAD and I laughed my way to piratebay.

Sorry guys. I understand you did a lot of hard work, and put a lot of man-hours into this, but you need to sell it at a reasonable price (do what you gotta do) if you expect people to purchase it.

$700 on Star Trek TNG re-mastered? Sorry man. Even if I wasn't a broke college student.. which I am.. that wouldnt fucking happen. Ever.

Now that they've all been released, you can buy the box set for $350 which is MUCH more reasonable. Still a punch in the bag.. sure.. but if I wasn't poor as hell I would probably do it as a gift or something to a friend.

Now... put it up online for stream at $10 a season? You've got my money.

$70 > $0

u/TheCheshireCody · 2 pointsr/DeepSpaceNine

Doing a bit of research, it looks like they're deeply discounting the full set, at least in the UK. Pre-orders are now being taken by amazon UK, with a price tag of only $158.50 pounds, or ~$250 US. Kinda pisses me off, because I've already paid close to (or maybe even over) $400 for just the first six seasons.

No word on a US release (which is pretty odd, IMO). It's worth noting that the one I linked above is listed as being region-free. If you're in the States, you should be absolutely certain before buying it from the UK that your player will play 50hz video, which is the British standard (US video is 60hz). Some players do, some don't. I can tell you from first-hand experience that no Sony machines in the US will play UK Blu-Rays.

u/Etunimi · 2 pointsr/startrek

BTW, the TNG blu-ray set is 127.75 GBP in Amazon.co.uk right now (region-free, 168 USD shipped to U.S.), in case you were holding out due to prices...

They aren't "cutting content". This format is standard across the industry. Go back and check the runtime of Season 1 episodes. They are all right around 40-43 minutes depending on episode, with episode 1 the only one being 44 minutes.

Same is true for Season 2 - every episode is between 40 and 44 minutes long.

u/techbuzz · 2 pointsr/politics

This sounds eerily familiar to the recent documentary The Brainwashing of My Dad. It is streaming free with Amazon Prime.

A filmmaker explores the radical change of her once Democratic father to an angry right-wing fanatic after his immersion in talk radio and Fox News. She discovers this to be a powerful phenomenon that has divided families across the nation.

u/Fredex8 · 2 pointsr/politics

You may be interested in the documentary on Amazon The Brainwashing of My Dad.

Talks a lot about how Republican media shifted and became so toxic and full of crap resulting in it suckering in a lot of older people who thought they could trust the news. Same outcome in that story that the guy eventually saw through it after being exposed to less biased sources.

I am currently rewatching everything with my wife, wich is crazy because she is not that into Marvel Movies. Next one is Ant Man this week. We watch on Blu Ray so we can see extras, featurettes, deleted scenes and bloopers. I bought all the new BR sets and they are quite satsifying (I even put the little GOTG 1 poster that comes with one set in my daughter's rooms because she is in love with Rocket Raccon)

So yeah, you can say I am an addict too.

The closest I'm aware of are the new Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 boxes they released a couple of months ago.

Phase 1- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075YLXYMS/?coliid=IRKP1SX5G37B&colid=3A4RAUZUV1G3W&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

EDIT: Just to clarify, these boxsets will only get you up to Spider-Man Homecoming. Infinity War, Captain Marvel, Ant Man and the Wasp, and Avengers 4 will receive their own matching box set once Avengers 4 is released on disc.

u/CurryMustard · 2 pointsr/Marvel

It makes more sense to buy the box sets in phases

Phase 1

Phase 2

Edit: upon closer inspection, these are british/international but they are not region locked as far as I can tell

u/itmonkey78 · 2 pointsr/marvelstudios

I'm in the UK and the box sets will cost me £188 ($230) for the blurays on Amazon.co.uk. Price goes up to £275 if I want the 4k versions of the Phase 3 box sets (phase 1 & 2 arent available in 4k)

Phase 1 box set: $45
Phase 2 box set: $59
Phase 3 box set part 1: $49

That's only $155 plus maybe another $70 for Phase 3 part 2 which is released next month (doesnt look like Amazon.com shows it but I can preorder it on the UK site)

u/ITziMeow · 2 pointsr/marvelstudios

The phase 3 part 1 box set doesn't contain any collector's piece. The necklace is just the box's art work. You can see all of it's contents on Zavvi.

There were other box sets of phase 1 and phase 2 which are similar to the phase 3 part 1 box set you are refering to, but they do not contain the props that the actual phase 1 and phase 2 collector's editions has.

u/Shooter_XI · 2 pointsr/marvelstudios

If you login to Amazon, Phase 1&2 + Phase 3 (Part 1 - up to Ragnarok) are listed as blu ray release on May 3rd 2019. Maybe they are bringing the older ones back into production.

This book saved our sanity with our new born. After 3 sleepless "colic" nights our pediatrician gave it to us and life got so much better. http://www.amazon.com/The-Happiest-Baby-Block-Crying/dp/B0006J021C

u/rugtoad · 2 pointsr/Parenting

One of my wife's friends wrote this one...not a bad book, I suppose. Lots of good information about pregnancy, things that are good to know from the dad's perspective.

The one your wife is going to read, and you should also read, is the classic What to Expect book. That's sort of the "pregnancy bible", lots of really good information in there, most women read it.

Another one that I really got a lot out of is If Your Kid Eats This Book, Everything Will Be OK. That's written by an ER doctor who talks about how to tell the normal illnesses and maladies that aren't worrisome from the ones that you actually do need to be concerned about. It's saved my wife and I from a handful of ER/Doctor's Office visits.

The final one is the one I recommend over anything else. If you buy no other books/dvds, buy this one. It might save your life, sanity, and/or marriage:

The Happiest Baby On The Block

I'd recommend both the book and the DVD, but if you only get one, get the DVD. Hell, many libraries carry it.

Any and every parent I know who has watched it basically thanks Harvey Karp for making the first 3 months entirely bearable. It teaches you how to soothe a screaming infant, quickly and calmly...it makes for a happier child, and happier parents. Buy it, or rent it, or whatever...just make damned sure you see it before d-day.

Outside of that, a quality swing that plugs in (not one that runs on batteries...you will spend the difference in cost between the two on batteries) can be great. Our little girl, along with a few of our friends kids, all loved the Ocean Wonders one by Fisher Price...although for whatever reason, it seems to be ridiculously expensive on Amazon. I believe we paid 150 or 200 for it brand new. Worth every penny...cheap swings are just that: cheap. They aren't comfortable, they aren't well made, and they don't work for particularly picky infants (e.g. my daughter). I have a few friends who had more laid-back kids who have said that the cheaper swings work, so if money is tight that's something you might wait on until you meet the child:)

For most baby stuff, you get what you pay for. The stuff that works is going to be expensive because it works. I tell most of my friends that my experience is that you buy the best rated thing you can afford (just because it's expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's good, always find product reviews!).

Anyhow, through the pregnancy, the best thing you can do is just be interested and involved. Try to remember that your wife/partner might seem to lose her mind a few times, and it's mostly hormones...so let the crazy slide a little bit more than usual.

Other than that, just square yourself with the idea that your old life is done, and you now have a new one. Everything changes with kids, and the more OK you are with that, the better you will be as a dad. It's the best change you could ask for, and most dads will say that they wouldn't go back to the life of video games and nightly partying for anything in the world now that they are dads. It's worth giving all of that up a million times over. But don't fight it. Don't tell your wife that she can handle being home with her one-month old alone because you're stressed and need some time with your boys. Don't say that you can't get up in the middle of the night because you have an early tee time. Don't tell her that you shouldn't have to help clean up the kitchen because you worked all day.

That kind of stuff comes naturally to most guys, and I certainly hope it does for you. You find that when you just let the change envelop you, instead of trying to shoehorn your old lifestyle into your new life, things are easier and much more fun. The change is good, and it is inevitable. Fighting it just makes you, your wife, and your child miserable.

u/ponymchoofyson · 2 pointsr/daddit

You have gotten a lot of great advice. Here is a book that helped us with our first, when neither of us really knew what to do. It's real life advice on how to have the best first few months that you possibly can. Super quick easy read, but worth it IMO.

u/mazinlarry · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Colic can rear its ugly head at any time. That's not to say that it definitely will, but being prepared for it will certainly help. My wife and I (and our gorgeous twin girls) were saved by the techniques in The Happiest Baby on the Block.

The DVD will show you the techniques. You can also get the book, which will explain the science behind the techniques.

The normal sleeplessness from having a new baby is difficult enough to deal with. Add in Colic and it can be truly frightening. Luckily, it is only temporary.

That said, congratulations! Enjoy your baby and everything wonderful about being a parent.

If you aren't able to find a way to watch it using this list, the only way to legally watch it is by purchasing the DVDs/BRs. That being said, there are many other more questionable options for watching it online that shouldn't be too difficult to dig up using Google.

u/DangeresqueIII · 2 pointsr/Animesuggest

When ADV originally released Evangelion on DVD, it looked really crappy due to bad transfer. Then in 2005 they released the platinum edition that looked much better due to a better transfer. This edition also had director cuts for 4 episodes that help explain things/feed into the End of Evangelion Movie. Sadly the Evangelion Platinum edition is rare, and very expensive. New its going for about 400, and used 100. I would check craigslist, I picked up my box set a few months ago for 30 bucks. Otherwise, I would just probably download it. Also, while the new movies are good, I would recommend that you watch the TV series first, then the End of Evangelion movie, then the new movies.

u/EveryGoodNameIsGone · 2 pointsr/StarWars

The 2006 2-disc individual releases have the 1993 laserdisc master dumped on the second disc. It's not great quality (and is awkward as fuck for 16:9 TVs), but it's the originals. They're also included on the 6-disc slim OT box set (don't ask me why Amazon's price is so outrageous on that one, I see it in stores for $30 all the time).

If you want better quality, download Harmy's Despecialized Editions. They're 720p HD restorations of the original versions from the Blu-Rays, the 2006 DVDs I mentioned above, and actual 35mm film scans (among other sources). PM me if you're interested and I'll tell you where you can get them.

Unfortunately, they're lower quality than the 2004 Special Edition versions they're packaged with, and especially lower quality than the Blu-Ray releases of the 2004 Special Editions.

The best way to collect GT is in a garbage bag. All jokes aside the Blue and Orange bricks are the cheapest solution for a complete collection of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. As far as I know GT hasn't been released on blu ray yet, so this is what you want. For the Dragon Ball Z TV specials the bluray release of History of Trunks/Bardock is the best way to get those two.

u/Terez27 · 2 pointsr/dbz

Your submission has been removed for the following reason:

>This topic is addressed in our FAQ. See the link for more details about the different dub versions and soundtracks.

There are many different ways to purchase the anime. While all releases of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT are in their native 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, most English releases of Dragon Ball Z were cropped to 16:9 widescreen. All home releases except for the "Dragon Box" and "Rock the Dragon" sets offer three soundtrack options: Japanese with original soundtrack, English dub with original soundtrack, and English dub with Funimation's replacement soundtrack. (There is no Funimation soundtrack for Kai or Super.)

  • For Dragon Ball, your best option is the Blue Brick DVD sets. [4:3 Native]
  • For Dragon Ball Z, your best option is the most recent Blu-ray set [16:9 Cropped]
  • For Dragon Ball Kai, your best option is most recent Blu-ray/DVD set. If you prefer Kenji Yamamoto's musical score, you want "Parts 1-4" of the Part set. [4:3 Native]
  • For Dragon Ball GT, your best option is the Green Brick DVD set. [4:3 Native]

    Other releases include:

  • The Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick DVD set [16:9 Cropped], which are criticized for their aggressive filtering, over-contrasted colors, automated center crop, and excessive detail loss during scenes with shaky picture.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box set [4:3 Native], the now-out-of-print collector's edition which is considered by many to be the best DVD set of the series. Unfortunately, they run around $700 for a complete set on eBay, and don't include the American broadcast soundtrack.
  • The Dragon Ball Z Blu-ray Level Sets [4:3 Native], the now-cancelled Blu-ray set which was praised for its faithful colors, grain preservation and original 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • The Dragon Ball Z "Rock The Dragon" set [4:3 Native], which contains all 53 episodes of the original Ocean Group dub.

If you prefer a stream, you can watch the series on several online services including FUNimation. Streams are available subbed or dubbed, but both versions will feature the original Japanese soundtrack.

If you have any questions, see our extended rules. If you believe this removal was made in error, you can appeal to the moderating team.
u/Chronicthehedgebong · 2 pointsr/anime

What? All the Dragon Ball remasters have done very well.

FUNimation's horribly insulting remaster, where they over-saturated the colors and cut off 20% of the picture, did extremely well on DVD, and continues to do so Blu-Ray. I, personally, hate their remastering, but it was the top selling anime DVD for multiple years.

Kai did really well everywhere but Japan. Hell, in the U.S. it was on multiple channels at the same time. The Buu arc of Kai was created solely for the international market because of how will it did outside of Japan. (It wasn't until later that Japan decided to air a different.version of Buu Kai than what was made for the international market.)

I see where you're coming from and I can definitely see YGO going that way, but DB absolutely didn't end up like that.

It's Dragon Ball. It's the biggest anime in the world. It will always do well. Even when I think the product is a piece of shit, it does extremely well.

Like I said, I agree with what your saying, but maybe Dragon Ball wasn't the best series for you to use.

u/Mikey129 · 2 pointsr/pics
u/greatsky · 2 pointsr/dbz

Yeah Dragonball is 153, DBZ is 291 and GT is 64. I am not really sure where you can download the episodes but if you buy or find a download for these dvd's then it will have all 291 uncut and with 3 different audio tracks. They are great!

(the disks themselves are the same though, so there is no difference in quality between the movies themselves in these sets)

u/Jermseatsbrains · 2 pointsr/horror

Recently bought the Alien quadrilogy to watch. This Image will give you all the movies along with the special and theatrical editions. It has a mode in the special editions that shows which scenes are extra compared to the theatrical releases. I bought mine from bestbuy for $10 which I though was a great deal considering it was all of the Alien movies (except Prometheus) in HD.

This image should get you all the movies along with the special features. What you want to look for in the descriptions is disc 5 and 6. The whole set works like a uh..set in each of the individual movies there is a mode that you can tag the special features you want to watch and when you insert disc 6 it will bring all of your tagged special features to the front. They essenstially took disc 5 and 6 out of the set and sold that as a seperate version.

Both of the quadrilogy Blu rays have the same movies, features, and interface. The first one is just missing disc 5 and 6 with all of the extra special features. Hope that helps.

EDIT: This is the amazon page.Depending on which one your looking to buy you can change the multi-format from October 2010 to October 2014 for the different versions. 2010 being the Anthology with discs 5 and 6, 2014 being the Quadrilogy with only 4 discs.

u/incognitoinlatin · 2 pointsr/PS4

So, I worked as an HDTV engineer for five years and can tell you about my experiences.

In order to achieve market differentiation and tv selling features, TVs (at least the ones from my company…) will ship with a bunch of image processing effects that, frankly, are gimmicks. Without "game mode" on input lag will be increased as the TV applies effects before displaying the image. (It should be noted that no HD signals--including those produced by games--are engineered anticipating to be processed a second time by another device. They expect just being displayed on a well-calibrated display without any other processing.)

My two cents: if you're concerned about image quality, start with a really good calibration disc (like http://www.amazon.com/Disney-WOW-World-Wonder-Blu-ray/dp/B0045ASBLG/) with game mode set to on. At the conclusion, the image displayed will be the closest match your tv can produce to what the content creator intended AND with the smallest amount of input lag. If you don't like it, turn game mode off and play knowing you've made an informed decision and explored your options fully. :)

Edit: game mode doesn't affect 60fps--you're still going to get 60 (or more, if you have a tv that adds frames to simulate faster refresh…) frames either way, but with it on, the time that the PS4 produces the image to the time it shows up on your screen very well may be increased. And I game with game mode on. In answer to your questions, which I forgot in my original reply. :)

u/i_make_song · 2 pointsr/thewalkingdead

Honestly people should look into properly calibrating/optimize their TVs/players.

Just so you guys know...

All 12 of Andy Sedaris's films are available on Amazon for the low, low price of $6.99.

u/thinwhiteduke · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

That's awesome - I have Girls, Guns and G-Strings, a compilation of 12 of Andy Sidaris' movies.

If you haven't seen Hard Ticket to Hawaii, do yourself a favor and find a copy immediately - it's gold.

u/tommy_wright_III · 2 pointsr/movies

You can get 12 of his movies for next to nothing on this dvd set (http://www.amazon.com/Girls-Guns-G-Strings-Sidaris-Collection/dp/B004HHX9OQ) It is really worth it!

u/NoBulletTheory · 2 pointsr/CultCinema

HARD TICKET TO HAWAII is one of the of the greatest 80s exploitation films. The razorblade frisbee is fucking brilliant.

Andy Sidaris made a ton of films in the same vein, like GUNS with Erik Estrada and Danny Trejo and my personal favorite, SEVEN with William Smith.

You should all pick up his boxset on Amazon – 12 classic B-Movies for less than $6! You can't beat that.

I know I sound like a pitchman, but I just love this guys' films.

This release contains 3 audio tracks:

  3. English language with Faulconer soundtrack (this is probably what you're looking for)

This should absolutely be your top priority. The guy is pretty corny, but the technique works miraculously. Nothing beats being a new dad and feeling like you know what you are doing.

After that, take the advice of others in this thread. You'll be fine.

u/rainbowmoonheartache · 1 pointr/Parenting

The first weeks SUCK. I remember asking my father-in-law (a father of four) how in the world people ever managed to have a second kid.

He said then, "Oh, y'know, you just get through it."

It didn't seem helpful at the time, but it is totally true. You DO get through it. It DOES end. Eventually, you'll be so far past these days, they seem like a dim memory. :)

For tricks that worked for us, check out The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD. There's a book, too, but I sure as heck didn't have the brainspace to read it when we were at 2wks PP. The DVD was a life-saver, though!

A very effective system for keeping your baby calm. Made a huge difference for us.

u/dustgirl · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

My top three picks would be the No Cry Sleep Solution, The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding and the Happiest Baby on the Block (I've seen the DVD, didn't read the book).

I also highly recommend the blog Parenting Science. I teach child development, and what the author writes is backed by recent research (citations included) so it isn't just one random person's thoughts but essentially a literature review of what to do for the best outcomes when it comes to infant sleep and behaviour. Oh, and definitely KellyMom if you're breastfeeding. :)

u/echoes_1992 · 1 pointr/Parenting

I'd check out The Happiest Baby on the Block then. I read it before my wife did and for a while she thought I was a wizard when it came to putting our first down to sleep. It's not like other books that suggest some new fad for parenting styles, it just has some ideas for how to comfort a baby in the first 3 months that might not have occurred to you.

Also, the individual DVD cases should be black, not clear.

I recommend looking for a used copy of the 7 DVD holiday platinum edition since there shouldn't be any bootleg versions of that

While i cant say for sure what it is, I can tell you what it is not.

It's Widescreen, so this excludes the Dragon Box and Blu-Ray "Level Sets"(discontinued before finishing) because they are 4:3.

Audio is clearly the "Remaster" or "Funi V2" (post singles release).

If i had to take a guess id say this came from Either the Orange Bricks or the Blu-ray Release

One other possibility is the more obscure "Ultimate Uncut" version which was discontinued before finishing also, however i don't think its this version because it usually comes pared with a unique intro rather then the japanese one.

It shouldn't be to hard to tell if its the Orange Brick version with a little searching, its rather notorious for having bad cropping to fit the widescreen format (the blurays apparently do a more selective and thus better job at this).

This is why most people praise the Dragon Box version and were rather upset that the Level Sets got canceled in favor of the Cropped/Widescreen Blu-Rays.

I'm entering on behalf of /u/ScribblerJack!

But an anime I always enjoyed was Dragon Ball Z. I got a lot of flack for it too, being a girl and all. But it was fun and it was ridiculous. I used to get pissed when Cartoon Network would run out of episodes and start ALL over in the middle of an epic battle. My preteen self was not happy with not knowing how things ended.

And I don't know what Attack on Titan is. I'm so behind with shows!

And just as I was about to comment that I wish it was on Netflix, or that I was ever able to find the DVD's in Barnes and Noble or Best Buy, I happened to punch it into Amazon. They've got the complete series for only nineteen dollars!

OMG I literally just got this today and was so happy BUT the case it came in was pretty shite...It had ripples on the front plastic cover. Thankfully the actual paper cover art is completely fine. The edge on the spine of the plastic cover is also damaged all the way from top to bottom. I'm really new to dvd collecting so I dont know if this is something fixable, or if I should be smarter about which sellers from Amazon to buy from (would that make a difference? I dont know). So far as well the 2 discs I've checked have trouble when I try to skip in episodes. The picture becomes frozen but the audio keeps playing. My biggest gripe is that in both the menus of the discs, when you click on episodes the new screen doesnt load. You see the arrow pointing to the different options but you dont see the episode title names. I know I could potentionally get it replaced, but how would I know I would even get a new one that didnt have that problem?

Also, in my DVD collection I like the idea of purchasing the FIRST original release of a dvd. Is there anyway of knowing whether this: https://www.amazon.com/Daria-Complete-Animated-Tracy-Grandstaff/dp/B0019N8P2W/ref=tmm_dvd_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= or this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07D9FGYXW?pf_rd_p=330fbd82-d4fe-42e5-9c16-d4b886747c64&pf_rd_r=70BY87FQ0RD73X8A2JCJ came out first? u/jaundicemanatee · 1 pointr/horror

Found it. It's called the Alien Anthology, not Alien Quadrilogy. That's why it was eluding searches. Since it's Blu-Ray, it doesn't need so many extra discs, so it's just a 6 disc set rather than 9.

u/whatthefuckmane · 1 pointr/LV426

They talk about that scene, and how apparently 1 of them had to get cuticle repair after their fingers were jabbed during a reshoot of the scene, and how Bishop's actor barely got through the English version of TSA with the knives in his suitcase, etc.

On top of that, this film looks quite good in Blu Ray. And it has the 1990 special edition, which is good, as I consider that version superior to the 1986 theatrical release (I like that the deleted scene makes the leading character in Alien: Isolation canon, for one thing). And a few versions of the soundtrack.

I specifically picked a Blu Ray set which didn't have Prometheus / Covenant as I have zero interest in those films. Plus the version I got is half the price and has more special content than the more expensive version.

The 4 film version has all the same special content as the 9 disk DVD version but in Blu Ray disks, so better resolution. The 6 disk version is twice the price of the normal 4 disk version which lacks some special features. At $15 vs $30, I think the $15 is worth it since I buy movies for special content anyway.

The awesomeness of Star Wars is widely known. What isn't known, is that George Lucas is really a group of German penguins in disguise. Through their buddies at the local zoos, they made a man suit and waddle around pretending to be human while creating the movies they want to see. Ich liebe Pinguine!

u/mrsmoo · 1 pointr/StarWars

OK, that's what I thought. That blu-ray set (the blue cover with Darth Vader's head on it) does NOT include the original, unaltered versions of the films. That's why it's so much cheaper.

It seems that the versions that include the unaltered films are all pretty expensive now -- Lucas probably won't re-release them :(

I strongly suggest seeing if you can RENT the unaltered versions, or borrow from someone who owns them, or download them. Or spring for the expensive set.

At the bottom of the main description on this Amazon page, you will see a list of all the released versions of the movies and which ones contained the original theatrical versions.

Good luck!

Do you have an Apple TV and an iPhone/iPad? Or an iPhone/iPad with an HDMI adapter? You can use the THX Tune Up app for an easy way to do basic calibration in a pinch. - http://www.thx.com/consumer/home-entertainment/mobile-apps/thx-tune-up-app-for-ios/

Otherwise check out Datacolor's Spyder4TV HD - http://spyder.datacolor.com/portfolio-view/spyder4tv-hd/

Or Disney's World of Wonder blu-ray calibration disc: http://www.amazon.com/Disney-WOW-World-Wonder-Blu-ray/dp/B0045ASBLG

Or, as Endymion86 said, google your TV model name and 'calibration.' If it's a popular model, you'll probably find people who've got good stats you can adjust your TV to.

Typically you'll want to turn off any feature that has an "On/Off" switch in the settings, in my experience.

Good luck. Calibrating a TV can really change your viewing experience for the better.

u/Mephiska · 1 pointr/hometheater

Do yourself a favor and pick up the Disney WoW disc and spend an evening doing a proper calibration on that set and avoid that THX preset. Or read up on the AVS forums in the GT50 owner thread and copy other users professionally calibrated settings. It'll make a world of difference and give you more accurate color reproduction than the built in presets.

u/Elfman72 · 1 pointr/hometheater

8700ub owner here. Simply amazing picture. Yeah, I don't think you are doing anything out of the ordinary. One thing I recommend is picking up the Disney Blu-Ray WOW calibration disc. It will help you get the best picture out of your pj.

BTW, you can't go wrong with Epson support. My first 8700 had some pink banding down the right side. They shipped one overnight for free and paid to ship the defective one back. Transaction was utterly painless. Have heard horror stories from other manufacturers.

u/madethistopost · 1 pointr/PS4

A little off topic, but get one of these. It will help you calibrate your new TV and get the most out of the picture. I did it with my TV and the difference is huge. This is one of the best calibration discs available that you can get without a professional doing the calibration.

u/Meroun · 1 pointr/hometheater

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Regarding the bias lighting, do you have any personal experience with it? You sound like someone with quite some knowledge in the area, so would you recommend it yourself or no?

And thanks for all the in-depth answers, I will probably keep it simple and get a smart 1080, maybe 3D TV and let the technology develop for some years more before I head into OLED/4k so the prices drop aswell.

On the calibration, would you say it is worth purchasing this?

http://www.amazon.com/Disney-WOW-World-Wonder-Blu-ray/dp/B0045ASBLG

As you mentioned yourself it could be the way to go, and several reviews on Amazon says the same.

u/laughland · 1 pointr/PS4

I don't think this has anything to do with the PS4 specifically, but it is definitely a good idea to customize your TV's settings. Usually 'Movie' mode or some equivalent will be significantly better right away, and then you can play around with it as you see fit. Like some suggested, AVS forums has some good information if you search for your TV, and reviewers like CNET, digital trends, etc generally post their recommended settings in the review. The best option of course is to get your TV professionally calibrated by an ISF calibrator, but that can cost around 300. If you're really interested in getting the best picture out of your TV but don't want to pay for calibration, I suggest getting a Disney WoW or Spears and Munsil calibration disc. They walk you through the calibration process step by step and give you test patterns and footage so you can adjust your settings till it looks right to you. The Disney one is especially useful for beginners, I've linked both below.

Nice! Seems like it hit all of your requirements for a good price. If you're looking for some specific picture calibrations, you could always pickup something like this. It's a blu-ray (or DVD) that helps you fine-tune those settings

u/newbachu · 1 pointr/videos

You can pick up the entire Andy Sedaris Collection on DVD for 5.89 on Amazon. That's 50 cents a movie. Everyone should own this...

u/-foulball- · 1 pointr/movies

You forgot nearly every movie in the complete Andy Sidaris catalogue, pretty much the industry luminary for boring jet ski and RC action scenes

For your viewing pleasure, the jet ski chase scene from the 1998 classic "The Return To Savage Beach"

u/lmaocarrots · 1 pointr/movies

Do or Die by Andy Sidaris.

I've just gotten into his stuff and as a lover of B-movies he is the epitome of the stereotypical 80's movie. Long hair, unnecessary sex scenes, cheesy lines, over-the-top action.

Not my favorite of his I've watched I'd say it goes
Malibu Express>Dallas Connection>Hard Ticket to Hawaii>Do or Die>Picasso Trigger

For those interested this set is an incredible deal for $4 for 12 movies.

I don't even need to click the link. I know from the thumnail exactly what this is.

Hard Ticket To Hawaii.

And it's not alone in its batshit bonkers style. Filmmaker is Andy Sidaris, and he is responsible for this along with Malibu Express, Fit To Kill, and more. I highly recommend you spend all of $6 and buy this 12 movie collection of his work. It's the same as this previous collection I'm not really sure what the difference is between the two.

Do yourself and humanity a favor. Buy that collection of trash, grab a couple 12 packs, kidnap some friends, and start watching these.

It's only $50 right now. Seems a lot cheaper than paying $13/month for Netflix forever.

u/The_Goudy_MinMaxer · 1 pointr/DunderMifflin

Dang that sucks. They probably heard that the office might possibly leave Netflix and knew that people would buy the DVDs

Anyway I found the exact same set of dvds on amazon got cheaper. The Office: The Complete Series https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LTO342M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QtbBCbJRPX1JN. It’s $70.

You can probably find it on eBay for $50 if you search.

If you scroll down, the description says there are commentaries, then it lists the specific commentaries (and the commentators) in a break down of each season.

> it's probably just cheaper to go back to buying the DVDs of the shows you want to watch.

Unlikely. I get your point. it is getting silly as the market fragments but purchasing DVDs of entire series is expensive AF.

That is like 6 months of Netflix

u/Corrinth · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I'm in the same boat. My season 2 came with a slip, but seasons 1 and 3 did not.

FYI, Amazon UK has the complete TNG box set up for preorder for just £158.50.

For those in the U.S., that's about $220 shipped to the states, and all Trek discs are (supposedly) region-free.

u/nx_2000 · 1 pointr/startrek

I bought The Full Journey Box Set a few months ago when it was for sale for about $50... that deal was just too good to pass up. I'm happy with my purchase but the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. Price notwithstanding, I'd rather have the Complete Series box set that packed all the individual season releases together.

u/TheSilentHedges · 1 pointr/TNG

I know this was posted a month ago, buuuuut this comes out to about $96 USD for the entire set. Region free. I just grabbed it, and am selling the seasons I already have to help cover it. I have S1, 4, and 6, so by the end of it I'll end up getting the entire set for roughly $30!

I know, that's weird. But I purchased ones that were on sale whenever I happened to see them.

u/Maimakterion · 1 pointr/television

If the fans want to make a big impact, they should buy the seasons (if they can). At Amazon or any of their preferred vendors.

It is on Amazon already: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018BZ3SCM

u/vaiowega · 1 pointr/TheExpanse

Well, it seems this works:

>Step 1: Get an amazon.com account.
>
>Step 2: Load balance through your credit or debit card - https://www.amazon.com/asv/reload/order?_encoding=UTF8&ref_=asv_gclp_bwd_pd
>
>Step 3: Use a fake US address and set that as your default address.
>
>Step 4: Buy the episodes & season pass - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018BZ3SCM/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
>
>Step 5: You can watch the series without a VPN.

Of course, this isn't really 100% legit since you're not a US resident and you're supposed to only be able to watch seasons 1&2 on Netflix and nothing else. But it's not like you risk anything or that Amazon's gonna complain, money is still money, wherever it's coming from.

> Our populace is just dumb.

Brainwashed, not dumb. They're mentally conditioned.

I'm really thinking that it isn't helpful to say that people are dumb when it's possible for anyone to have fallen into that trap.

Brainwashing of My Dad on amazon right now

u/bmac423 · 1 pointr/politics

I think what gets underplayed with this thinking is the reason they're racist pieces of human garbage. This is due to years and years of exposure to extreme right-wing media, starting with Rush Limbaugh, through Fox News and now Breitbart and freaking InfoWars. They're brainwashed. It's not the most well-constructed doc ever, but The Brainwashing of My Dad does a pretty good job of illustrating the problem.

u/MrSputum · 1 pointr/TheLastAirbender

Amazon or iTunes for example. But if you don’t like these companies I’m sure you’ll find other vendors. If for some reason you can’t get ahold of a digital copy you could just buy the DVD or Blu-ray and rip it. I’m sure you’ll find these at various local stores as well.

u/Deadhouse_Gates · 1 pointr/television
u/xdeadly_godx · 1 pointr/TheLastAirbender

Yes, Best Buy should have it. If not you can get it on Amazon for $30.

u/Sirusi · 1 pointr/TheLastAirbender

Also the Blu ray is only like $30 on Amazon.

Ninja edit: but is apparently "reserved for prime members," which is stupid. Everyone should be able to experience this show in all its HD glory.

u/Ph4zed0ut · 1 pointr/gatesopencomeonin

Last year they released the blu-ray. It's the only way you can watch it in 720p (otherwise its like 480p). It's only ~$30 for the entire series.

u/MechAegis · 1 pointr/TheLastAirbender

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy them individually?

Sure it's a few dollars but is there something I am missing here?

u/severusx · 0 pointsr/gadgets

I would personally (and did) choose the Samsung. They consistently get the best ratings from sites like CNET.

As for properly tuning the tv, I would recommend that you pick up a calibration bluray. Disney makes a very easy to follow one called World of Wonder that will walk you through setting the color, contrast, brightness, etc to get the best picture possible for your environment.

VI for $8!

If they weren't letterboxed, you are missing nearly half of the picture. You do realize that letterboxing shows you MORE picture, right?
