The Jaguar is Rock Band 4.

But he is missing the Rock Band 3 Squier by Fender Stratocaster Guitar Controller.

u/Lerke · 10 pointsr/Guitar

You can use grade 0000 very light steel wool to clean your fretboard. I personally use GHS Fast Fret to finish cleaning the fretboard and give it a nice shine and smooth feeling.

Edit: downvotes? Classic /r/guitar lol.

u/ediblesprysky · 10 pointsr/violinist

You want a practice mute. Regular mutes are used in orchestral and chamber music to change the tone, but they don't really affect the volume.

A rubber practice mute is lighter, and since it dampens less of the overtones, it sounds nicer but diminishes volume less than a heavier mute. A metal practice mute will give you maximum volume control, but since it dampens so much of the sound, it can mislead your ear if you ONLY practice with it on. The Artino rubber-coated metal mute came out a few years ago, and it's supposed to give you the best of both worlds. I find that it has a little bit nicer sound than a traditional metal mute, but mostly I like that it grips the bridge better and won't vibrate off while playing, which metal mutes will sometimes do.

A practice mute is definitely something you should own. But I wonder, why don't you want to annoy your family? Unless the only time you can practice is in the middle of the night, they should just deal. Practicing is important and necessary to get better; they need to understand that. Plus, they have to love you no matter how bad you sound. Being self-conscious just because they might be able to hear you is counterproductive. I hope you're concentrating on doing what you need to be doing when you're practicing, and not what anyone else is thinking.

Why not just get a $10 Snark clip-on tuner?

u/SirCarrington · 8 pointsr/Guitar
u/Squirmy007 · 8 pointsr/basspedals

The Joyo JF-02 - Ultimate Drive is also a nice pedal, and also really cheap. I have more expensive pedals, but this one stays on my board. You can find reviews on youtube for bass.

u/misterpanderson · 7 pointsr/starwarscollecting

I've used a guitar stand in the past and it worked quite well. Something like: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006NDF8A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LK-UBbE8KRGKG

I rested the pod of the tie on the top support and it displayed nicely.

u/happymeal98 · 6 pointsr/Guitar

I got this Joyo Ultimate Drive for $30. You don't need much else, if it's really just low volume bedroom practice. For awhile I was using it as a boost for whatever distorted amp sound I had dialed in, and it fattened up the tone. But now I crank up the gain and put it on the clean channel and prefer it to any of the amp's drivers or amp channels, sounds more natural, less digital, a lot warmer.

u/ZagatoZee · 6 pointsr/rocksmith

I'm going to jump in on the pedal part and also suggest a Digitech Drop pedal.

It isn't the cheapest around, but is the "best". Why? It allows a RS player to leave their guitar in just E-standard or Drop D tuning - or swap between those 2 - and play all but around a dozen of the songs available to a PS user. Dethklok dlc on an e-standard guitar with 008 gauge strings? No problems.

The other thing I'd recommend if he doesn't already have - a really good set of WIRED headphones. Nothing with a USB cable or BlueTooth - just a simple 3.5mm or 1/4 inch jack and from a quality brand.

u/Sharkman8282 · 6 pointsr/ContagiousLaughter

Its about $113 you can get it Here this is where i got mine.

u/Bigsam411 · 5 pointsr/rocksmith

They made a real Squier Strat for the game that had touch sensors on the frets.

u/FUZZB0X · 5 pointsr/classicalmusic

Number 1 tip. Get yourself a clip-on digital tuner. Something like this.

Take the time to make sure you're in tune.

When you tune a stringed instrument, it's generally a good idea to be "tuning up", so you start with a lower pitch and tune up into the correct pitch. It leads to a more stable tuning.

As far as playing, I'd play on just one or two strings for a little while, feel out the notes. Play it pizzicato, which means plucking with your fingers, for now.

Put on some simple and non-cluttered blues or jazz and try to find some notes. It's easier than you think. Have some fun!

u/ArrhythmicEvent · 5 pointsr/basspedals

For $35: The DOD 250 is my favorite Bass overdrive. It can get anything from a transparent grind to a moderate fuzz. The reason it does the transparent thing well is because it literally is the drive circut from the Klon Centaur, it just doesnt have the buffer, blend or tone knob. The tone is directly tied to the gain knob which means you will really want to set the tone using the gain knob and you want to set the gain by driving more or less volume into the pedal. Kinda weird at first, but its pretty easy to figure out. here is some reading for the fun of it.

For $32: The JOYO Ultimate Drive is a very convincing clone of the OCD. Its a little on the anemic side for bass in comparison to the Fuzzrocious Demon (Bass specific OCD Clone) but for the price its pretty dang good... heck, at one time, they were repackaged and sold as the "Freekish Blues" botique pedal and were hyped up and going like hotcakes for $200 a pop until people figured out what was happening.

For $60: The Russian Muff Reissue is one of the better fuzzes out there for bass. Its on the heavier side, and doesn't do a transparent tone well but does a great great fuzz. Most iconic bass pedal on the market.

u/mtg4l · 5 pointsr/guitarpedals

The Donner Yellow Fall sounds pretty darn good for the price. I don't notice any noise at bedroom levels, but haven't cranked it up.

There are a bunch to use. I use Dunlop System 65 and a clean cotton cloth. It hasn't failed me yet. The cleaning spray will help with the back of the neck, and use the lemon oil on fretboard (note: DO NOT USE LEMON OIL ON THE TELE's MAPLE FRETBOARD) and wipe off the excess. If the fretboard is really cruddy, use a clean, damp cotton cloth and a bit of water to loosen up the grime, then let it dry and apply the oil.

Any bass/guitar player is always happy to have another one of these. And they're only $10.

Oh, and another stand can always be used.

u/Zytran · 4 pointsr/Guitar

Looks like a presale leading up to black friday. I would assume that you'll probably find better deals closer too or on black friday.

However while taking a quick glance I did come across some Joyo Pedals that are a pretty good price right now; most of them are under $30.

These 2 stuck out in particular, as I've owned them in the past and they're pretty good quality pedals. Especially when considering the price point, they're well worth it.

Depends if you want to use it to learn guitar or to play more challenging charts.

If you want to play guitar, go with the [Squier] (http://www.amazon.com/Stratocaster%C2%AE-Wii-XBOX-360-Playstation-3/dp/B004MF102G). It has real strings and can plug into an amp.

If you are playing for the scores, go with the Mustang. It has buttons for frets and plastic strings and I find it somewhat easier on the fingers.

u/Jaunt_of_your_Loins · 4 pointsr/Guitar

Seconded. These are perfect.

I recommend this pack to anyone searching for a new pick.

I don't mind using Ultex, they're almost like Celluloid but you can grip them with sweaty fingers.

Regular old Celluloid are fine if your hands stay dry, but they do wear and break faster.

Gator Grips in the lower gauges have sharp edges that wear crazy fast. The thicker ones are fine though.

I despise Nylons and Max Grip.

I've never been able to get used to Jazz picks.

u/samuraialien · 4 pointsr/Guitar

Have you tried using grip picks before? I use a Dava control pick. It's got grip and you can make it flexible or stiff. There's some grip picks in this Dunlop variety pack idk the models of but they're alright.

u/squishypluto · 4 pointsr/guitarpedals

the donner yellow fall delay is $35 and it's a surprisingly good analog-style (it says analog but I'm almost sure it's digital) delay.

also, I know not everybody's into chorus, but the danelectro fab chorus is an absolute steal at $15. it's probably not gig-worthy, but it's the best 15 buck pedal I've ever heard. I think most people would agree that it's the best out of the danelectro fab series. can't go wrong if you like chorus.

u/MoogleMan3 · 4 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

These will do the job. Just put the pointy bits in the holes.

u/cnelsonsic · 4 pointsr/ukulele

If you follow this simple regimen, you will be prepared to play ukulele in no time at all:

  1. Put on multi-colored, flower-patterned shirt.
  2. Put on fringed straw hat.
  3. Pour yourself a pina colada. (Ideally served in a coconut.)
  4. Play "My Dog Has Fleas".
  5. Appreciate that you bought a decent uke and strings and don't have to tune it all the time.
  6. Play C, G, Am, F, while humming "What A Wonderful World".

You are now ready to play.

get this one Snark tuners are the be all end all of tuners unless you want to get into electric guitar pedals down the road. Every guitar store I have been to carries them, I'd be surprised if they dont around you, plus there's always amazon.

Mine is the blue one, but as long as it supports guitar you're fine, I think the black is the newer model or something.

Snark is the way to go! Welcome to the world of guitar :)

u/cratermoon · 3 pointsr/classicalguitar

Keeping it in the case when not in use is very wise. You might want to look into guitar humidifiers. These are small and inexpensive gadgets that help keep the wood from getting too dry or too damp, either of which can be bad, in the long run. I don't think it really matters much which you get.

Edit to add: I have the Planet Waves humidifier that's kept my best instrument safe through the mountains and the deserts.

u/thefrettinghand · 3 pointsr/Bass

I looked in my gig bag for inspiration - it turns out that I just have way too much shit in there, most of which is under £15. Cheaper DIY options offered where applicable:

  • The snark SN2 clip-on tuner. Absolute must-have.
  • A decent multi-tool
  • Allan Key Set if the multi-tool doesn't have the right sizes (metric is normal unless you play something made across the pond, but in case you need imperial, and have lots of space in your gig bag)
  • Dunlop strap locks are a solid addition to any bassist's set-up
  • Some fret-fast (I'm too lazy and disorganised to get new strings very often - you could just sub a rag and white mineral oil, but this is a convenient little package)
  • A couple of spare 9V batteries for your bass, or your (more likely your guitarist's) pedals
  • A fold-away bass stand that you can take to practices, comes in just over budget, but is a good addition and folds up to about the size of a tube of Pringles
  • Some cheap bric-a-brac like electrical tape, gaffer tape, write-on-anything pens - all good additions
  • A decent set of ear-plugs to protect your hearing
  • Foldaway music stand if you ever play with sheet music; alternatively, if you have a car or are near public transport then this guy might be more bang for your buck; light in case you have one and play in dark venues sometimes and bag in case, like me, you're always leaving the house on gig-day carrying too much
  • Patch cables if you use several stomp-boxes or rack units
  • Cable ties to stop your cables getting mangled (can always use zip-ties instead - less neat but much cheaper)
  • A cheap soldering iron is not essential, but it will be good to have one for that odd occasion where you need it - I've actually been in situations where I've saved some poor soul's night (occasionally mine) by having one of these on my person
  • Owning a padded guitar strap has saved me much back pain over the years.
  • A decent torch for last-minute backstage repairs and adjustments, lighting your pedalboard, etc

Conspicuous consumerism at its finest, ladies and gents.

Hi, Its the dunlop guitar maintenance kit. It has fretboard cleaner, fretboard polish, body cleaner and polish and string cleaner. The body polish is carnuba wax and I love the smell. When ever I change out the strings on my guitars I give them a polish. Makes them shine and look amazing. Link below.

u/LKummer · 3 pointsr/Guitar

I have a bottle of Dunlop Formula No. 65 Polish and Cleaner, it does a fantastic job. My guitar has a similar finish to yours and after wiping and buffing it for a couple of minutes it looks like it just came out from the store. I usually do it when I change the strings.

You can get the whole set for $20 on Amazon. You might as well get a bottle of lemon oil for your fretboard, it makes it a lot smoother and nicer to play. The Dunlop one is the cheapest last time I checked, but you might get a better deal by getting a bigger bottle of mineral oil which is pretty much the same thing.

Also read the instructions on the bottles, you don't want to damage the finish of your beautiful guitar.

What is your favorite musical instrument?

u/makoivis · 3 pointsr/Guitar

I glue pick holders to the back of the headstock of most of my guitars:

Mic stand pick holders also work, I keep some on my music stand.

And of course then there's the tin.

Basically, I have picks everywhere, but the pick holder glued to the guitar is the best option.

You could get an amp grill cloth with a colourful design. Hang your guitars off the wall with something like this.

u/Xtrap · 3 pointsr/Foofighters

Sorry, I was talking about the Fender Squire here. It was 300 US and you had to buy the midi adapter/USB cable kit.

u/jamesh777 · 3 pointsr/AskReddit

I went with this in the end. My room now looks like swiss cheese.

u/nobody_you_know · 3 pointsr/mandolin

Okay, so...

Watching the clip /u/TheJiggersUp posted below, I don't see him playing his mandolin, so I don't have much to offer on style... I would presume he's going to play in a more classical/European style, as opposed to an American, bluegrass-oriented style. He has a bowlback mandolin rather than a flat-back or carved-top style instrument, but I don't know of any playable bowlback models that cost ~$100.

What does exist is the Rogue RM-100A which is a not-great but more-or-less playable mandolin for under $100. (Some individual instruments seem to be better than others, but it's just a luck-of-the-draw thing.) If you were to get one, you'd also do well to get some different strings for it, get a decent pick designed for mandolin (a guitar pick won't work well for this instrument), and maybe consider having it professionally set up (or possibly even trying to do the work yourself... perhaps someone else can point me to the book available on setting up a Rogue to be less awful.) I would also highly recommend getting a chromatic tuner; you spend quite a bit of time tuning this instrument, and as a beginner, it's really helpful to have one of these. If you have a smartphone, a metronome app would also be a good thing to get; otherwise, there are a million cheap, electronic metronomes on the market.

So the Rogue is a cheap, low-quality instrument -- NOT a good instrument, just the least-bad at the sub-$100 price range -- but it can get you started. I know, because that's how I started. It's designed for bluegrass more than traditional mandolin music, but you can learn the rudiments of any/every style on it.

After that, to just start learning how to play, I recommend Don Julin's book. Yes, it's "for Dummies." It's still an excellent beginner's book. He focuses primarily on American styles, but he also covers other mandolin traditions, and when you're first starting out you really just need to learn the basics no matter what style you favor. He also does some nice intro-level youtube lesson videos. There are lots and lots of other mandolin lessons available on youtube, too, and are a decent way to start out if you can't afford private lessons.

Finally, start saving up some money for a better instrument. Sooner than you can imagine, you will reach the point where the Rogue can no longer keep up with you, and begins to hinder your progress, so you need the upgrade to keep learning. The most common recommendations I see are the Eastman 304 or 305 and the Kentucky KM-140. Both are solid student instruments that will serve you well for a long time, and both can be had with professional set-up and a hard case for ~$450. I have an Eastman 305 myself and I adore it. Or perhaps there's a more traditional bowlback model out there that you'd like better, if you aim to play that way. I know very little about those.

It's a great instrument, and fun to learn. And it's entirely possible to come from zero background with stringed instruments and still make good progress. Good luck!

Edit: Oh, also... certainly it would be a good thing to learn (or re-learn) how to read standard musical notation, but a lot of mandolin music is available in tablature (or tab), which is a much easier system to use and doesn't require the ability to read music. The Julin book I linked to above uses both.

Edit 2: Also, here's a recent thread on the Rogue, just so you can see some other people's opinions.

u/CowFu · 3 pointsr/Guitar

You can do what I did and get something like this it's $3.99 for 12 different picks so I could try them out to find out what works best for me.

I use the green turtle for 90% of playing, and the blue alligator when I'm playing something that requires less strumming and more individual string picking.

//i just looked again and apparently amazon made it an "add-on" item that means you have to order other shit before they'll ship it. You can find cheap variety packs all over the place though, and every music store I've been to has a "loose picks" section that you can pick up 10 or so different ones from.

Great! You can buy Aquila Reds on Amazon.

I have also heard good things about the Aquila Super Nylgut.

If you want to test out fluorocarbons, I'd give Worth clears a go. [Worth browns](https://www.t
heukulelesite.com/worth-strings-bm-brown-soprano-concert.html) are a little warmer and softer and might be even better to try first, actually!

Also, D'Addario makes great strings too, though the suggestion you got below to put tenor strings on is probably not a good choice (unless the string set specifically says it is for all sizes).

I think the key here though is that like bazmaz is saying, you'll need to be willing to try a few things until you get what you like. That's the fun (and challenging) part about strings. Challenging, because sometimes, you may end up putting something on and not liking it, and having to do another change soon. Fun, because once you find what works best for you, your instrument now feels a lot more custom- you made a creative choice to have it sound that way.

u/TribalDancer · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

Ukulele! A one-time purchase of a decent, cheap ukulele, strings, and a tuner. From there on, the internet is FULL of free online lessons and music sheets. I can't tell you how much my ukulele has brought me joy in the year and a half or so that I have been playing it!

If you want to turn it into something social, you might even have a ukulele jam session in your area. I have been shocked to find easily a half-dozen within a 30-45 minute drive of me, and that's with a casual search. I have attended some in sun-lit parks in the summertime, in bars, in community centers, you name it. Ages are mixed, backgrounds are mixed, music spans the gamut, all really friendly and fun people. But that's just if you want to try a group, which is by no means necessary.

Edited to add: My recommended beginner ukulele is the [Kala Makala Dolphin](http://www.amazon.com/Makala-Dolphin-Bridge-Soprano-Ukulele/dp/B002ZSE9ES} (there is also a Shark line that is pretty much the same, but different styling). Comes in tons of fun colors and is a good setup for a beginner price point. Get Aquila strings, and a tuner and you're set for a long time. There are some sets which include a tuner, basics video, and the uke, you just need to buy the strings separately. I get no kickback or anything from these suggestions. It's just what I started with and what I have bought friends as gifts, and been really happy with it.

u/RajenK · 3 pointsr/3Dprinting

It's this model on Thingiverse, instructions aren't really necessary. Print all parts, glue them together, get tuners and strings (those are the ones I got). Fair warning: those tuners are not long enough to fully stick out at the top of the headstock. It's enough to string the uke, but could probably do with some longer tuners.

u/NoodleSnoo · 3 pointsr/Guitar

Can't argue with that. I feel like you should get one of these to go with it.

u/FilthyTerrible · 3 pointsr/Guitar

The pedal itself will require a power supply. They come in singles and multi-pedal versions. And you'll require an additional guitar chord to run from the pedal to your amp. Most pedals will run a 9V battery, but that might get expensive for you over time.

u/travvvvvvv · 3 pointsr/guitarpedals

What you need is a daisy chain. You can either buy just the daisy chain with your existing power supply, or you can get a combo daisy chain + power supply.

This will likely be just fine for just two pedals, but once you get a few more pedals, or you get more power hungry digital pedals, or pedals with special voltage requirements, you'll want to look into an isolated power brick like a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power, or Truetone CS7

u/tmwrnj · 3 pointsr/Guitar

You'll need a standard 9v power supply following the Boss standard - 2.1mm tip negative.

I'd suggest avoiding eBay, because there are a lot of dodgy Chinese power supplies that aren't really safe or reliable. If you're on a budget, I'd recommend the Donner DPA-1 - it's $14, it'll power up to five pedals and it comes with a warranty.

Exclusive footage of me trying to learn the Bach Double:

https://media.giphy.com/media/11Wkoq2MaUbLXi/giphy.gif

Man, it's so hard. There's just so many damn notes, and Bach switches it up with lots of sharps, flats, and naturals just to make sure it's hard to memorize the fingerings.

But that's enough complaining. On a positive note I'm really happy with my ear training progress, mostly thanks to that Functional Ear Trainer app that I plugged in my mental practice thread. I'm always worried about coming off as a paid shill when I talk about my favorite violin stuff - like my Kreddle, eBoot Rubber Mute, YouTube channels like CadenzaStringsNC & Violinist Jenny Yun, and now this Functional Ear Trainer app - but I also get so excited to share the things that have helped me throughout this difficult learning process. The Kreddle made my neck pain go away, the rubber mute made my ear pain go away (while not muffling the sound too much like my heavy metal mute), the YouTube channels continue to help me memorize my Suzuki pieces, and the ear trainer app helps... train my ear. Lol. I hope these things help some of you too.

Considering A/C is typically a dehumidifier, especially in an A/C controlled environment.

EDIT: /u/freelandford means you should have a humidifier for your guitar, not a dehumidifier.

http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Waves-Acoustic-Guitar-Humidifier/dp/B0002D0COE

u/IMunchGlass · 2 pointsr/AcousticGuitar

You could always use this or the frugal substitute - moist sponge in a ziploc bag with some holes in it.

u/utini · 2 pointsr/Guitar

I'm assuming this is an acoustic guitar. If it's electric don't worry about the humidifier. With acoustics you need to put it up in the case and put a guitar humidifier in with it. During the winter when you are heating your house is when your acoustic guitars are most vulnerable to drying out.

Humidifiers are not expensive though they require some attention (refilling).

Here is a cheap one that will work fine.

These require less attention. I use these with my Martin. These are pretty simple and don't require you to mess with refilling.

The damage you describe is probably beyond getting the moisture right in your wood and like I said before get it to a guitar tech soon.

If your guitar was exposed all winter and never had a humidifier the wood could have dried out and the tension from the strings could have caused problems. I did see someone mention that maybe your guitar was designed for nylon strings, if that is the case using metal strings could easily be the cause.

From the sound of it your looking at some repairs that could either be major or very simple; but, a skilled guitar technician needs to look at this thing. This sort of thing will likely get worse and the amount of repair and money needed to fix it will significantly increase the longer you wait.

u/mezzie1971 · 2 pointsr/Guitar

It would probably be better than nothing. I think a sound hole humidifier would make more sense in a soft bag. Only thing with those is make sure they have good reviews, since they sit in the sound hole of your guitar a leak would really suck.

http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Waves-Acoustic-Guitar-Humidifier/dp/B0002D0COE/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1418155460&sr=1-1&keywords=planet+waves+humidifier

u/gallowglass4 · 2 pointsr/Guitar

It's not particularly expensive and your guitars will probably fare a lot better for it. you can either humidify them in their cases with something like this, or humidify the room you keep them in. They should really be kept around 40%-55% humidity to keep the wood from cracking, the frets from poking out the sides of the finger board, or in a worse case, the bridge popping off.

Uno) (Before I begin, sorry, I suck at writing.) Not the most interesting, but one of the craziest. So, one time I was camping with a friend, and this was in a randomly chosen spot in the depths of Michigan woods. We only had a tent, an ax, two knives, a .22, a box of matches and fishing poles. On our way to the site we found a couple carcasses, some rabbits, squirrels, a few deer, and a lot of spots that looked like wild Boars have been through there.

Now I don't know if you know how big wild boars can get, but they get pretty huge, and are also very mean. So, we weren't looking forward to running into any of them. Sadly, you don't always get what you want, and we didn't.

We went out to look for food, and try and get a squirrel or a rabbit for dinner. As we're walking through the woods we here some noises, loud noises, oh great. As we get closer we discover the song to be loud grunting, and we assumed it was mating. But we progressed, because it could be dinner for us.

We get to a sort of clearing and see a pack of boars. They definitely noticed us, but we got closer, bad choice. About 15 yards away they get riled up, and then some start running, most in another direction, but two of the biggest ones and another smaller one decided they would take there chances with us. The smaller one and the biggest one chase my friend, and he hurries into a tree, where they wait for him.

But to my luck the second biggest, who was not much smaller than the biggest, decided to charge at me. I'm a nature guy, so I know my stuff, so I know that boars have thick skin, and the .22 and my 3" bladed knife aren't doing anything. Just then I remember the ax, without hesitation I bring it up over my head, like a good wood splitting formation.

About 20 feet away, the boar is getting closer, and will be to me in a matter of seconds. It's in my reach, and I bring the ax down. fwapp Blood splatters, I feel the ax crush the skull.

And that's the story of how I killed a wild boar with an ax. Sorry about my writing.

Dos) This, this, and this, should equal around $20)

Tres) Cool Story Bro.

Thanks for the contest, and telling me about pooping on your cat.

I'd recommend checking out a Joyo Vintage Overdrive, they're $30 and there are tons of reviews online.

I own their Ultimate Overdrive and I think it's amazing, honestly I think it's one of the better pedal values out there right now.

u/bardomudo · 2 pointsr/Guitar
u/KleyPlays · 2 pointsr/Guitar

>I am aware that there is a difference between the two but I am not sure which one fits me.

On one had the difference between overdrive / distortion / fuzz / dirt / etc... is kind of meaningless. They all cause clipping / distortion to your signal. They all may do so a little differently.

My personal category is as follows.

Overdrive - Low to medium gain. Softer clipping. Often used for boosting and shaping EQ in desirable ways. Can add a little grit to a clean tone. Also popular to boost a dirty tone and send it over the edge. Examples are the Tubescreamer, Klon, Bluesbreaker, and Timmy.

Distortion - Medium to higher gain. More of a harder clipping. Most often used to provide its own distortion. More often used with a clean amp and significantly transforms the base tone. Sometimes has a wider range of tone shaping. Examples are the Boss DS-1, Fulltone OCD, JHS Angry Charlie, Suhr Riot.

>Any ideas of what brand I should look for or what pedal I should get?

Be aware that there are like 1.5 bazillion pedals out there. It also can be a heck of a rabbit hole. If you're just dipping your toes in, my personal recommendation would be to buy a Joyo Vintage Overdrive and a Joyo Ultimate Drive. That will cover your Tubescreamer overdrive style and an OCD distortion style. $60 for both. Build quality is decent. Sound quality is on par with any other clone.

I've been playing for 10 years, bought hundreds of pedals all across the price spectrum, and have built my own. At your level these two will serve you perfectly well.

u/defimeshun · 2 pointsr/guitarpedals

Pretty sure Santana uses a Tubescreamer.

You can pick up a Joyo Vintage Overdrive - a pretty faithful clone of the Tubescreamer - for around $30 dollars here on Amazon.

Turn down the tone knob on your guitar a little bit. Try different pickup combinations - not sure if your guitar is a strat style or les paul style, but switch between them.

I think you'll get pretty close by turning up the mids a bit, keeping the bass low but not too low, and the treble medium with your tone knob down. Experiment! Use your ears, and trust them.

Santana is also going to get a lot of his "sound" from the way he plays the guitar - phrasing, pick attack, blah blah blah, so don't expect to be right on immediately. Keep practicing and you'll get there!

u/solaris79 · 2 pointsr/guitarpedals

Yeah. I got mine off of smile.amazon, and I'll say I was pleasantly surprised by it when I added it to the signal chain. I had watched a few reviews on YouTube, and it was getting a really positive vibe about it, so I just pulled the trigger. Same thing with the Mini-Spark. Didn't go for the bigger Spark because I didn't really need much tweaking for a clean boost, and that saved me about $30 in going that route. Sometimes simpler is better.

u/Dawboo · 2 pointsr/guitarpedals

I just purchased a Joyo JF-01 for $16 dollars used off of amazon. The reviews looked pretty decent so I decided to give it a shot. Thanks for the input.

The Snark SN-5 is the one to get. They have more lights/resolution. Buy a few, they are easy to loose, and they are less effective when the rubber foot pops off.

u/ultimateballoon · 2 pointsr/rocksmith

You can stretch the strings a bit to help keep tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7DxlcE2A2M

The in game tuner has very forgiving leeway I find. You can be +/- quite a bit and it will let you pass the tuning.

Chromatic tuner apps are OK. I personally use a clip on tuner and check it every day to make sure it's on point. You can pick them up pretty cheaply. This is the one I use but there's better ones out there. I find it better than when I tuned by an app on my phone.

I recommend you check the tuning after each song to see if it's still OK and make any adjustments, until it requires none. Then check every few songs, then every day when you first pick it up to play.

Songs with a lot of bends will pull your guitar out of tune quicker too so that's something to keep in mind.

If you're using a modeler, you can find a number of his presets out there (in particular, he shares a lot of the tones for his Axe FX).

Here’s my recommendation:

The guitar: this it’s really an excellent guitar, for price you can’t beat that.

The strings: used for The Wall

Additionally you could replace the pick ups depending on your amplifier: with these personally i would not recommend it on the specific strat I recommend for you to buy cause it cost twice the guitar. But if you get one, try to find one second hand!

Also remember its not all in the equipment, you also they way you play the guitar! Learning the proper style of playing can get you a long way!

Now pedals and amps:

I personally think this is the most important no matter what guitar you have, if you put it threw a good amp it really does miracles!

I personally have a Fender M-80 amplifier, the distortion on that amp sound extremely good so I don’t really use disto pedals!! But I do have 2 disto pedals that sound like him,

1: Real Tube Overdrive: this

2: Big Muff: here ya go

3: Definitely get an Echo Pedal thats a must! Any one should do! like this

Just use a decent amplifier, if you already have one it’s probably fine, around 200-300 Watts is great.

This website called Gilmourish is excellent if you want to find the exact correct pedals and techniques! Here: http://www.gilmourish.com

this! and this

Hope this helps!

Edit: if you dont have an amplifier, try looking for a second hand Fender amp, either on ebay, craigslist, facebook market place! You can send me a pm if you found one and I could tell you about it!

Edit 2: really depending on your budget I can tell what to get so feel free to pm always happy to help a fellow Floydian.

Hm, well if you want to perform with it, you're not likely to find anything that sounds pro-quality for $30-40 dollars. The biggest problem you'll run into with these cheaper ukes is poor quality control. So maybe some frets are a little too high and that will create buzzing. Or it's not constructed quite right and the sound is muted and dead. Or it doesn't stay in tune up the neck. Fine for someone learning, but not ideal for performing.

But, in that price range I recommend checking out the lower end Kala ukuleles. Amazon link. The dolphin / shark ukes are plastic and look like toys but are actually really good beater ukes. Even though I have much nicer ukes, I still use my Makala Dolphin when I go camping or to the beach or whatever. You also don't have to worry about leaving them in a hot car. They have a surprisingly full sound and are SUPER durable, and cost about $45. If you don't like the look of the colorful plastic ukes, a laminate wood Kala like this is fine too, but may not be as tolerant of heat or excessive moisture.

Being a bigger guy with (I assume) larger-than-average hands, you'll likely be most comfortable on a Tenor sized ukulele, but those may be out of your price range for a half-decent one. (The ones I linked above are Soprano, the smallest size, which you may find cramped). But here's a $99 tenor you might be interested in. And here are some performance-quality tenors starting at $184.

Whatever you choose, you absolutely must replace the stock stings with decent ones – it makes a big difference on these cheap ukes. I recommend Aquila strings. Make sure you buy the right size (i.e. Soprano or Tenor).

I'm not sure about the left-handed aspect. It seems to me that it'd be easier to just play it in the normal style (fretting with your left hand, strumming with your right). Otherwise you'll have to flip your strings and all chord charts and tabs will be backwards for you. And on some ukes (likely not $40 ones though) you'd have to flip the bridge to get the strings to lie right. Seems like a pain. Or I guess you can just play it upside-down, but all your down-strums would sound like up-strums. But I'm right-handed so take with a pinch of salt!

They usually don't come with one, though some do, because they generally all use the same standard (2.1mm by 5.5mm center negative 9v). You can get a cheap wall plug with a daisy chain for 5+ pedals for under $20 on Amazon, which is a great place to start since it will cover your needs probably for years.

https://smile.amazon.com/Donner-Supply-Adapter-Negative-Cables/dp/B012VQ5A7S/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1537208434&sr=8-6&keywords=one+spot+power+supply

u/myintellectisbored · 2 pointsr/violinist

Have you thought of a practice mute? I use a metal one when I need the most dampening. I use a rubber one when I want some dampening, but still want a decent tone. Practice mutes can alter the sound a bit so it is something to consider. There is also a rubber coated metal one that falls between the rubber and plain metal one. The links I provided are just to show you what I'm talking about. To give you an idea of how much they dampen, in my roughly 900 square foot apartment, my boyfriend can't hear me practicing at all with the metal mute when I'm in the back of the apartment and he's in the front. The rubber mute is more like a soft whisper.

I also want to add that if you practice during the daytime, most neighbors aren't going to have a problem. They may even like it. If you're really concerned you can actually go around and ask if the noise would bother them. If it does, see if you can work out a compromise. Even though mutes are great in situations where you really need to practice without disturbing anyone, they do have an effect on the tone. I don't recommend practicing all the time with them unless you have no other choice.

u/y_elllo_w · 2 pointsr/videos

Good job! I saw the violin on Sesame Street when I was really young and my parents were able to save up to send me to private lessons for most of my childhood. I'm no professional or anything and i really only play my son to sleep these days. But I am really inspired by your journey. It makes me want to play again.

To do something with it.

There is a point (you are getting close to it) where the instrument really does become a part of you. That is my favorite part of the fiddle, I can communicate things with it in a way that I can't with my words or work.

Just a quick recommendation. How you practice is how you play. If you want to practice playing with strength but without volume you may want to consider buying a practice mute https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B7N8P5A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_D5eByb1636QF8 they are relatively cheap and you can play with the whole bow and all the pressure you want.

I hope this helps and I hope you keep going.

An old bluegrasser once told me that rhythm was his only stopper. He'd play with anyone who couldn't keep the tune or follow the jam. But, they couldn't keep rhythm, the whole group would fall apart. Feel the rhythm, keep practicing, and if you don't already, go find some jam sessions and join in.

u/erikagrl13 · 2 pointsr/IAmA

If you're doing a classical violin, invest in a practice mute like this:

Hey fellow Texan (H-town here)!

Guitar Center in San Antonio has the following:

USED
White Schecter Omen 6 for $175 (used): https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Schecter-Guitar-Research/Omen-6-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc
A good, basic dual humbucker guitar with pickups that can do high gain well. Good for rock and metal.

That's the only used one on their website in your price range that I'd recommend; the others are either too crappy or feature a Floyd Rose tremolo and you don't need that hassle on your first guitar.

NEW
Yamaha Pacifica PAC012DLX HSS for $180
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha/PAC012DLX-Pacifica-Series-HSS-Deluxe-Electric-Guitar.gc
A good Strat-style guitar with a humbucker and two single coil pickups that is a lot of guitar for the price; in the price range it's tough to beat Yamaha Pacificas. Good for blues, rock & country.

Ibanez AX120 for $200
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez/AX120-Electric-Guitar.gc
Good starter vintage-style dual humbucker guitar. Good for blues and rock.

Squier Affinity Telecaster for $200
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier/Affinity-Telecaster-HH-Electric-Guitar-with-Matching-Headstock.gc
Decent dual humbucker telecaster deluxe-type guitar. Good for blues, rock & country

Of those, I'd choose the Schecter, the Yamaha or the Ibanez.

AMPS
Boss Katana 50 for $229
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Boss/Katana-KTN-50-50W-1x12-Guitar-Combo-Amplifier-Black-1500000025313.gc?pfm=item_page.rrt1|CategorySiloedViewCP
A great, very versatile 50 watt 1x12 combo amp with a ton of effects and . I had one of these and loved it until I decided to upgrade to the Katana 100 head. It sounds great right out of the box, but connect it to your PC with a USB cable and use the free Boss Tone Center software to edit all kinds of settings, choose from 50-odd different built-in Boss "effects pedals" and save unlimited presets.

Fender Champion 40 for $200
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender/Champion-40-Guitar-Combo-Amp-Black-1367516484871.gc?pfm=item_page.rrt1|CategorySiloedViewCP#productDetail
Another nice, versatile 1x12 combo amp, this one 40 watts, with a more modest effects set, but still really good sound.

ETC

Or, from Amazon, a Snark clip-on tuner for $9

Instrument cable (18 ft) $17
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Musicians-Gear/Instrument-Cable-331175.gc

A dozen picks, Dunlop Tortex .88mm $6
https://www.guitarcenter.com/Dunlop/Tortex-Flex-Standard-Guitar-Picks-J52062.gc

Or, a dozen assorted picks to allow you to find the type/weight you like, %5

That should do it for you.

I would definitely recommend getting new strings and having the guitar set up by someone who knows what they're doing, but Guitar Center charges $50 for a setup plus strings. That's more than I like to spend. I'd call around and find a smaller music store that does setups for less. I'd recommend .09 gauge strings to start off with. You can always go heavier later if you want. You can't go wrong with Ernie Ball, D'Addario or GHS Boomers strings.

I live in the southwest where its incredibly dry. I find myself having to use a guitar humidifier at least once a week. I usually just leave it inside my guitar for about a day at a time. This is what I use.

Really makes quite a difference.

u/JosephSchuldMusic · 1 pointr/Guitar

If you keep them in cases when not in use, you can get a humidifier and hydrometer to accurately measure humidity. I just have an empty old spice deodorant casing with half a sponge inside of it that I re-damp every few weeks and stick it in my case. It may not be the most accurate, but some humidifiers are literally the same exact thing. Like this one https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Waves-GH-DAddario-Humidifier/dp/B0002D0COE

Also, he means a lot to me. The only family he has left lives halfway across the country and his friends are all back in Houston. He moved out here on a whim when I asked him to. I know he misses the things he left and especially his bass. He talks about it a lot. SO it's not hard to ask him these random questions without it looking suspicious :P

u/universal_rehearsal · 1 pointr/Guitar

Ok so by the looks of it he's got the effects pedals covered, I would go for something else and let him get anther pedal on his own. These are my recommendations that will benefit his current setup.
This is a nice expensive version of this and this is a midway between the other two. These are power conditioners they will help his equipment operate more efficiently and quieter and will last decades(you can use them for home theatre use as well)
I would also recommend nice cables like these they are lifetime warranty. Here's another very useful maintenance kit that will last a very long time. If you pick the 110$ furman you can get all three.

If you're looking at a tubescreamer, check out the Joyo Vintage Overdrive. It's an inexpensive TS clone that sounds exactly the same as a Tubescreamer, in fact it has the original chip in it that many people say is better than the current Ibanez reissue.

My wife bought that a while ago for rockband and never really used it much. I actually would like to start learning guitar and would rather use something I have on hand rather than having to buy a new one.

EDIT: Just looked online, it seems to work, there might be a few issues but at my level (0) they should pose no problem. Thanks for the link, just bought the game and I am quite excited about it.

> guitar in game is gimmicky to play no matter what

They sold a real guitar (https://www.amazon.com/Stratocaster%C2%AE-Wii-XBOX-360-Playstation-3/dp/B004MF102G) that could play the actual song in "Pro" mode. Same with bass.

It didn't support every song (RB3 songs and later only).

u/firekorn · 1 pointr/rocksmith

RB3 Pro mode could actually be played with an actual guitar that was made for it though : https://www.amazon.com/Squier%C2%AE-Fender%C2%AE-Stratocaster%C2%AE-Guitar-Controller/dp/B004MF102G

I'm not a fan of how the pro mode was handled in RB and sure the plastic controller for it was shitty but they did try to do something good and offered some actually not so bad option even though the result is far from what RS is.

Noob with a unique situation. I'm in an efficiency apartment somewhere in the realm of 13'x22'. I'm looking to get my first budget monitors. I had a question in particular about them. I read earlier this week that using larger monitors can cause undesired results. Is there a max monitor size for my room? How badly will the other things in my apartment (kitchen area, bed and dresser) mess with the monitors?

I've been looking at the Presonus Eris 4.5 and the Mackie CR4 sets. Are either one of these sets ok for my situation? Something else entirely? Also taking budget interface suggestions. I'd prefer something with MIDI I/O.

Speaking of MIDI, I have a MIDI guitar that I found while spring cleaning. I was very much into rhythm games back in the day, and I bought the Rock Band 3 Stratocaster Pro Guitar. What can I do with it, recording wise?

Thanks!

What I would love to do is to source some flat sheets of 1.14mm delrin, seeing as paying 50p for a half-inch triangle of commercial polymer has always struck me as outrageous. The thinnest i'm manageed to find is 10mm which, even for a hardass, is pretty chunky. Anyone got any ideas?

Honestly the best thing you can do is grab a friend who has been playing for a while and have them play anything you're thinking about buying. There should be some takamines and yamahas on your local craigslist, their lower end offerings are good bang for the buck. Then have your friend go to a music shop with you and have a guitar tech set up the guitar. While you're there buy a clip on tuner and a humidifier.

Regarding online tuners, they are fairly accurate.

If you want to buy one, I've been using Snark SN-5 which is easy to see in bright lights, and is only about $10.

but you can get by with the Snark SN-1 which is a little over $8 just fine.

With these, the battery lasts a long time, and you don't have to go online to tune-up. Just clip it onto your guitar and go.

u/PanicBlitz · 1 pointr/Bass

There's no one right answer. Some people will use super heavy picks and it'll work great, and others will feel like their right hand is going to fall off if there isn't some give. I use Dunlop Ultex Jazz III XL's. They're fairly new (the regular Jazz III XL's were my old pick.) I like the sharper end, and Ultex pretty much never wears away. The regular Jazz III size picks are too small for me, but if you don't mind the size, a lot of people swear by them. Dunlop sells a variety pack that's got some good heavy picks to try out in it.

u/treesandclouds · 1 pointr/Guitar

Accessories are always good. Strings, picks, maybe a strap or a stand if he doesn't have those already.

I'm not familiar with the Esteban DVD set aside from his commercials back in the day. There's a lot of good videos on Youtube for a beginner so I don't think that would be necessary regardless.

edit: Since he's new you can get him a variety pack of picks so he can see what he likes: http://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-PVP102-Variety-Assorted-Players/dp/B0055VBYWC

u/jomit · 1 pointr/Guitar

If you can, order both of these packs and play all of them, then just pick the ones you like the most and stick with them.

I found that for picking, the usual jazz III is very good, although I also liked the Ultex picks. I preferred very light picks for strumming since they don't make as much clacking sound when hitting the strings.

Came here to talk about Joyo Pedals. I purchased the Ultimate Drive in June and have been really happy with it. They're currently going for $29.99 new.

These pedals have a bit of controversy around them, when a company passed them off as $170 boutique pedals.

Either way, its basically a Fulltone OCD clone, which is a nice sounding overdrive pedal.

Also, if this pedal is truly being used for science, you may also want to consider the technical differences between distortion and overdrive pedals. Again, I don't know if this is relevant to you or not. Joyo makes distortion pedals too. Some consider the differences negligible.

As a guitar enthusiast and musician, I like the idea of having a fulltone OCD clone, into what some consider to be Fender American clone. There's a bit of a poetic irony there. A chinese manufactured duplicate installed into a chinese manufactured duplicate. Also, I'm not knocking chinese made guitar equipment, if anything I'm a fan.

edit:format, sp, add context

u/deltron3030 · 1 pointr/Guitar

If you guys are looking for an OCD overdrive pedal, also check out the JOYO clone "Ultimate Overdrive." You can find it on amazon, or ebay for less than 30 bucks.

u/stayhome · 1 pointr/poppunkers

I've been using the Joyo Ultimate Drive for a while and really like it. It's a clone of the Fulltone OCD, and a pretty close one at that. I originally just picked it up because I heard good things and it was thirty bucks, but damn, I have to admit that ethics and stuff aside, this thing is actually really good, as are the other Joyo pedals I've tried. Didn't expect it to become my main overdrive/distortion.

For lighter drive, I also have a TS9 Tube Screamer, which is also pretty nice. For reference, I play a Gibson '50s Tribute Les Paul with P90s, and a Schecter C-1 with a Duncan JB in the bridge. Running everything into an Orange Micro Terror with a Marshall MG 4x10 cab, though I've been looking into the new 2x10 Jazz Chorus that Roland put out.

OK, this parts list uses the blue and black case that is inverted with a window. You can put the 120 mm NF-A12x25 right under the top filtering mesh blowing onto the graphics card. Or remove the stock fan and put the more powerful Noctua fan at the rear of the case at 1200+ rpm to pull air down through the mesh without it being in plain view. This fan is more pleasant then others at high speed and comes with all needed wires and accessories.

If you do not want to push the budget to the max, I would first cut the processor from the R7 3700X to the R5 3600 ($2025). Then I would cut the graphics card two levels to the RX580 8GB, then add 3 TB of storage, and a Windows 10 stamp ($2050, see below). Then you will want to play on 1440p medium presets with high textures. FreeSync on the monitor and graphics card should make that a smooth and low-latency experience.

If you don't like the big handles on the Prodigy M case, they can be removed if you buy some appliance feet for the bottom. The compact case has the power supply exhaust on the bottom, and it needs clearance from the floor/desk. The graphics card is at the top of this case, so you can see the graphics card through the mesh and the window. It is also really blue.

The adhesive for the rubber feet my case came with was garbage, so i bought these. Just used a drill, some screws, and some nuts to attach them to the bottom. Looks good and the case is higher than it was before, so probably has better airflow.

I used these which might be the most I do for now. Have you finished the enclosure at all? I haven't decided what or how to do it -- doesn't look terrible unfinished, but will eventually want them to look nicer.

Using the same inuke here, have you adjusted the dsp at all? I'm in the middle of figuring out how to use REW with my radioshack SPL meter, hoping to finally play around with it this weekend.

I'm pretty happy with them, for about $900 they complement my Ascend Acoustics CBM-340's nicely. Just need to adjust for the room at this point.

The Makala MK-S was my first uke and it still serves me well. It also fits your budget. The strings it comes with are OK, but if you want some better ones, go for these Aquila strings. This Snark Tuner is also a nice thing to have.

u/tani_P · 1 pointr/ukulele

I play a Bushman Jenny Concert that's pretty crispy sounding! They also make a soprano size. Whatever uke you end up with, I'd suggest seeking out a solid wood one, not laminate, and using Aquila strings.

u/710cap · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Ukulele. The Makala Dolphin is a really great ukulele for the $45 price tag (especially if you blow the budget by $2 for some Aquila Nylgut strings) and there are tons of places to get tabs of all skill levels. I got my first uke for Christmas a year ago, and haven't stopped playing since.

Granted, it gets real expensive once you start buying more ukes and more accessories for those ukes, but none of that is actually necessary.

u/roorings · 1 pointr/ukulele
  1. aquila strings are great (personal preference but it is pretty widely accepted they are good strings). Looks like you may have a soprano there so you'll want to get the right ones for a Soprano http://www.amazon.com/Aquila-AQ-4-Soprano-Ukulele-Strings/dp/B00MXUJ394/ref=sr_1_4?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1453826535&sr=1-4&keywords=soprano+ukulele+strings

  2. Personally if I am going to change one peg, i'd change them all. I can understand not wanting to change anything on the uke but you're going to have 3 crappy/old pegs and one new/good peg. http://www.amazon.com/Grover-Sta-Tite-Ukulele-Tuner-Machine/dp/B003A67WHU/ref=sr_1_17?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1453826633&sr=1-17&keywords=Ukulele+pegs

Regardless of if you have perfect pitch I would recommend buying a tuner so you can check yourself without needing to ask people on reddit haha. They’re pretty cheap, I would recommend this one

u/DfizzleShizzle · 1 pointr/Sitar

You should pick up a guitar tuner like this, that will make it much easier to see if it tunes up properly and stays in tune. Clip it to the nut at the top and start tuning it up from there. Doing it by ear is almost impossible if you have no experience with the instrument, in my opinion.

The rattling in the gourd is normal. Little pieces break off inside the gourd sometimes and rattle around when moved. So odds are that's a non-issue. And from what I can tell the sitar looks to be strung up properly and looks alright from a distance. Once you get it tuned up you should be able to get an idea if anything is wrong with it.

The one thing I'd check for is if the neck is warped or bent at all, because that seems to be a common issue sometimes.

u/deanie1970 · 1 pointr/Guitar

I use a Snark that my dad gave me. It's a digital tuner that clips on the end of the guitar. I'm not sure if it changes hz or not. My friends tried it out and said it was accurate, tho.

Edit: Found the one like mine on Amazon There are different ones there you can check out, too.

u/essexwuff · 1 pointr/Guitar

So you'll definitely want a guitar stand. Don't put your guitar away, the more you see it, the more you'll want to play it. Grab one of the small clip on tuners, the snarky brand one's are pretty good, and they're dirt cheap. You'll want a string winder too, and keep a couple extra sets of strings around. My favorite strings are the martin SP series strings, very lively tones.

As far as lessons go, while I know a lot of people get a lot out of them, I'd say your best bet would just be finding songs you want to learn how to play, and learning how to play them. These days, you can find a Youtube walkthrough on how to play almost any song. After learning songs you want to play, the abstract concepts of what actually makes up that song will start to soak in. This in addition to learning all your basic chords, and you'll be off and running in no time. The thing I'd be worried about as far as lessons go would be if it ends up feeling like a chore. That being said, it's all up to you.

Congrats on the chair no matter how you end up in it. Lead is the most fun thing to play IMO.

Second what the other user said. Very much warm down if this is a HS or college band that rehearses daily.

It’s been a while since I played lead but always remember to warm up a few high notes, too. I would always do more standard warm up stuff and not go too high. It always made the first few runs feels stiff or out of tune.

Also would suggest getting one of those clip on tuners (like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H74YV56/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KVVBCbF52XJ5H ). I clip mine on my bell to watch tuning. Upper register stuff can be hard to hear for me. This one is on sale for like $8 right now.

  • iRig + Garage Band for iOS - This is my go to practice setup and music writing tool. I used to have a fairly complex home studio setup, but most of it got sold off once I got the iRig. Not because it's just as good, but because it's so much faster to set up and use.
  • Stick on pick holders - I've got one of these on all of my heavily played guitars, and they're really handy. Most of my guitars are battered so I'm not worried about finish, otherwise I use a strap pick holder.
