You'll want to find one like this that puts your neck in a neutral position while laying on your side. This is the best way to sleep for your neck so you should be aiming to do this most of the night.

I have a couple of these, one that is more firm, which I used to use...

I switched to one that is more soft because I got a softer mattress. My shoulders and body sink into the mattress more now and that made my head too high with the firm pillow. So I had to get a softer pillow to match the mattress firmness and keep my head in a neutral position.

So that is the kind of thinking you'll need to do.

Also note some of these have 'cooling gel' inside them which is awesome if you like that. Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073P4M54X/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B073P4M54X

I've tried every kind of pillow — inflatable, cabeau evolution, the standard horseshoe pillows, the trtl pillow. And this is the best one I've found that offers a reasonable amount of comfort, prevents the "rock concert" head bob, while still being semi-compact: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQQTB51/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

OK based entirely on your recommendation I went shopping yesterday and picked up earplugs (easy), and went looking at neck pillows. I found some pretty firm looking memory foam ones for $15 and was like "this isn't too bad" when I tried them.

Then I went to a department store. I saw they had the $15 ones but they also had this monstrosity for $55. I laughed and was like "There's no way this is three times better than the other ones" and I attached it to my head and..... it was like a flight of angels came in and started supporting my head from all directions, gently carressing me with their feathery wings.

OK, maybe not quite that good, but it was like night and day. And I figure it's either a worthy investment if it's excellent, and if it's shit it's proof for the rest of my life that neck pillows aren't something I benefit from investing in. I also grabbed a new sleep mask as there was a 20% off when buying two or more products from the line and I don't have a sleep mask with cavities for the eyes (I use sleep masks all the time at home but when I wake up there's been pressure on my eyes all night so my vision is blurry for 5-10 minutes which I can't imagine is healthy?).

I just wanted to let you know that your advice was listened to and will either be responsible for me having a much more pleasant flight or will be the annoying thing I have to cart all around my travels and regret buying :P

> avoid jetlag

My experience with jetlag is if I'm in the sun I don't feel tired, but if I'm indoors I do, so I'm not too worried.

I arrive about 7am local time so my plan is to get an uber, put all my crap in an airbnb, and then just walk around / sit in parks / dining al fresco / etc enjoying the sunshine until about 5pm or 6pm, scarf something quick for dinner and then go back to my airbnb and sleep for ~10-12 hours, wake up at 4am, and then (hopefully!) be all reset - I tend to go to naturally be a morning lark so it should work out (fingers crossed).

I've had it for 7 years or so and it's holding up well (the fake leather is starting to crack in some points but that's to be expected). It lacks neck support tho, you should grab a cheap neck pillow and strap it to the back, right under the head rest.

Mine is the smaller one, though I've been thinking about getting the larger one because it's a more comfortable, stretchy material. I had some trial and error at first with how much to inflate it, but since figuring that out I've found it great for back sleeping. I also don't use a normal pillow at home, but an ergonomic cervical one, so maybe that's another reason why I like the X.

I use a memory foam neck roll. I hate memory foam with a passion because it also made me feel like I was straining, but the neck roll provides the perfect amount of support for my neck without pushing my head forward. This is the one I picked up.

That "Shoulder and Neck Tension Release Pillow" looks interesting. Here's the link for it on US Amazon:

I have sciatica, and going to a chiropractor that specializes in prenatal really has helped. She also happens to give a BOMB massage, which I have splurged on twice so far.

For sleeping, I got this knee pillow which really helps: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0753X62CQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It looks ridiculous, but it stays attached to my leg / in place when I change sides, which is so helpful. I have a bunch of pillows already, so I didn't want a full body pregancy pillow... this in conjunction with a wedge for my stomach had been good up until about a week ago. Now, I also use two pillows under my head (one contour forming foam, with a king sized down one on top of that in a staggered formation) to reduce reflux by gently elevating my head / upper back and reduce pressure on my shoulder. It seems to be working pretty well for now - 32 weeks.

Orthopedic pillow to sleep on. They can be life changing and aren’t too expensive. Lumbar support pillows for your chair/car might also be a good investment.

Otherwise. definitely seek out a good Physical Therapist and maybe pick up yoga.

I also have scoliosis!

Currently I just use two extra firm cheap pillows (because they squish easy since they're cheap) but I'd always recommend a memory foam pillow.

I used to have one like this and it was really helpful

My boyfriend got this one recently and said it was one of the best/worthwhile purchases he ever made. He loves it more than the 2 expensive ass Tempurpedic pillows I got him a while ago. He's not one to make many comfort-related purchases, mostly battle-station upgrades/games. We invested in pillows for him because he has chronic neck/back pain issues, which get worse when he sleeps the "wrong way" physically.

It's an amazing pillow. Will be ordering one for myself when I pay some other bills off.

Thank you, this has been the most helpful answer so far. I also did further research on my own and talked to him about it today. He wasn't sure which position he spent the most time in, and I don't know either since I fall asleep before him whenever I spend the night. He said he thinks he changes positions a lot in the night due to restlessness, heat, congestion, or discomfort. I found 3 or 4 options that are versatile for different sleep positions. He decided on this ergonomic memory foam that is shaped so that you can rest your head on different parts to support your head and neck in different positions: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071P34Z49/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5aezzbMEDJ5CF

I think he placed the order today. I may order one for myself as well because it looks very comfortable. I really hope this works for him!

For a good sleeping position, get a good pillow. You want one that is molded to support your neck. Once your head is in the right position, the rest of your body will follow.

Also, since your spine is hurting, put another pillow under your knees.
