The best - undisputed, an absolute marvel and benchmark in portable gaming. So many emotions, forever nostalgia.
The worst - I am just salty it isn't longer, thats why. It shouldn't be playing with my fucking heart like that
Heart Gold and SoulSilver are both $294.99 each on Amazon.
It’s been well established that Cory in the House holds the title of best 3DS game there is, was, or ever will be

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward has one of the best stories of any game i've ever played, and it happens to be on 3DS. It is, however, a sequel to the equally amazing 999 for DS. I would recommend getting 999 and finding out if it grabs you the same way it grabbed me, and then getting VLR if you want to. You can get 999 for 25 dollars on amazon. Very much worth it. http://www.amazon.com/9-Hours-Persons-Doors-Nintendo-DS/dp/B003VR5PPY Fair Warning: They are choose your own adventure visual novels. With lots of puzzles throughout. That being said they are still both fun and gripping games.
Have you got a Gameboy (or DS!)? Any Gameboy will do! You got it?? Good!! Now, depending on the generation of Gameboy in your hand, follow one of these links:
Original -> Pokemon Red / Pokemon Blue / Pokemon Yellow - Pikachu Edition
Gameboy Color -> Pokemon Silver / Pokemon Gold / Pokemon Crystal
Gameboy Advance -> Pokemon Ruby / Pokemon Sapphire / Pokemon Emerald
Nintendo DS -> Pokemon Diamond / Pokemon Pearl / Pokemon Platinum
Nintendo DS -> Pokemon Black / Pokemon White
... and sort your life out!
EDIT: As people rightly pointed out, no 3DS Pokemon yet, fixed it!

Cory in the house.
Highly rated game but a shit game. I don’t get it. Granted is a DS game.

You have no idea how long i've been looking for a decently priced copy of soul silver ಠ_ಠ https://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-45496740634-Pokemon-SoulSilver-Version/dp/B0038MTE7C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1510640336&sr=8-2&keywords=soul+silver
Okay So i just bought a New DS XL and I have been looking at games I would like. Then your comment comes along and tells me that they have indeed my favorite game of all time for a system I have just bought. WET PANTS. Then I look to purchase this game and find this http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-SoulSilver-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0038MTE7C
Thats right $129.99!?! that surely can not be the correct price...
No shovelware collection is complete without this gem:
http://www.amazon.com/Cory-House-Nintendo-DS/dp/B00134YL8E/
It's cheap, too, so you have no excuse.
come on
you know you want to
Hey OP, I have some suggestions for you (these are on the DS side of things, as I don't have a 3DS yet because I've been mainly PC gaming). I copied this from one of my earlier posts on the same subject.
Other games that have been strongly recommended by others (but I have not played):
Totally did not expect to find this particular title (a smash hit rhythm game in Japan), let alone an import at a local suburban bookstore. A nice surprise to find the manual, Club Nintendo, and game cart in such stellar condition.
The game is Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2, the second game of the Ouendan series, with a spinoff called Elite Beat Agents in the States.
I would suggest playing them in the order that they were released. Each game has its own story so you wont be completely lost if you jump in out of order, however you may miss out on some context from previous games, but this is not a game breaker. The released order does not follow chronological order, but for the sake of the story I would still play them in released order.
Release Order:
Curious Village (DS)
Diabolical Box (DS)
Unwound Future (DS)
Last Spectre (DS)
Miracle Mask (3DS)
Azran Legacy (3DS)
You can find the DS games pretty cheap used now days as well:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000U5W3IW/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used
I don't know about you, but http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Black-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B004EW2PC6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302330395&sr=8-1 is really hard for me to type in on my phone, even shortened url's can be a giant pain when all I have is the software input panel on my HTC Surround. QR codes are awesome, I point my camera at them and my browser opens up whatever lengthy URL I need to go to. I don't know why so many people consider them gimmicky or useless, they aren't there to 'replace' existing information like URL's and contact information, but to augment it and make it easier to get into a users phone.
Please, Pleaaase start with the first game on the DS, then work your way towards completing them in order. It is a very strongly story based driven game. You will miss out on huge chunks of story if you start elsewhere.

Assassin's Creed is a great game series, but it's pretty violent - you play an assassin, after all. If you want to give it a shot, start with AC2 - it's a much better game than AC1.
Given that you liked Phoenix Wright (oh I do love Feenie.. there need to be more games in that series like yesterday), you could give Ghost Trick a shot. It's got a very similar sort of "feel" to it, though it's a bit more puzzle-y and less investigate-y, if that makes sense. It's by the same folks who did PW, for what that's worth, and I highly enjoyed it. I found the puzzle concepts really neat, too.
And given that you like mystery novels, I recommend 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. Lots of drama, puzzles, decisions, and many different endings. Also lots of reading - it feels more like a book than PW did, to me. I haven't finished this one myself, but it sounds like it might be something you would enjoy. I liked it well enough, it was just more serious that what I was looking for at the time, and I haven't gone back to it yet.
Note, I'm assuming you have a DS of some fashion, since you said you'd played PW; both Ghost Trick and 999 are DS games.
Hope you find something that you enjoy, and happy gaming!
My favorites:
[Sweet Fuse: At Your Side] (https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/games/sweet-fuse-at-your-side/cid=UP1024-ULUS10652_00-BAKUDANHANDAN001)
Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom
Corpse Party
Corpse Party: Book of Shadows
999 already mentioned by another in this thread.
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward The sequel to 999.
Also, to a lesser extent anything by Winter Wolves. I've played a few and a lot of them are now on Steam too. These contain a bit more busy work than I'd like, but some solid stories there.
I would recomend the first one. It seems to be reletively cheap used. 13$ at Gamestop. Its simmilar if you look at the used ones on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Cory-House-Nintendo-DS/dp/B00134YL8E
Here you go. The DS has an incredible library and it's looking like the 3DS is going to as well. Have fun!
> ing AS/OR
AS/OR are still in production, so yeah, easy.
I recently did a calculation of all of the main series pokemon games if I bought them used on Amazon, the total was nearly 1000 dollars.
Even look at Pokemon Plat
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001O1OBFY/
70 dollars for a used crappy copy.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000047GEI/
50 bucks for a decent used copy of yellow.
Pokemon is not cheap.
Man, your seller must've been in a hurry or didn't check what others were selling for. HeartGold BY ITSELF goes for about $100.
Yep, the credit doesn't apply to EVERYTHING but it works for most things. Just read the Bonus Offers near the release date. You can get either black or white, of course.
Unfortunately, no. That appears to be a Nintendo DS or another version of that system in the same family (Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi, and Nintendo DSi XL). The games I mentioned above only work on Nintendo 3DS systems (Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, and Nintendo 2DS).
For that system, you would want to find a copy of Pokémon Diamond, Pokémon Pearl, Pokémon Platinum, Pokémon HeartGold, Pokémon SoulSilver, Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, or Pokémon White 2. These are listed oldest to newest, roughly. The only one of those that Amazon has in stock (sold and shipped by Amazon) is Pokémon White 2.
Pokémon White 2 (currently $17.99):
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050SVNP8/
You do not need to play the first game, Pokémon White, to play Pokémon White 2, but there are references made to the first game that she may not understand. It shouldn't stop her from enjoying the game at all though.
Not OP but i've been looking into these portable systems for a while. Supposedly these are a bit better than the Supaboy, but without having owned either I couldn't tell ya.
http://www.amazon.com/RetroDuo-Portable-System-RETROBIT-Nintendo-Super/dp/B0071NNPOW
https://www.amazon.com/Pok%C3%A9mon-White-Version-2-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0050SVNP8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473223235&sr=8-1&keywords=pokemon+white+2
Don't include the ROMs, and you're golden. Really though, since the SNES/NES patents have been dead, there are plenty of decent clones available already...and they're portable. I have the SupaBoy and it's pretty neat and I've heard really good things about the PokeFAMI DX but I believe it can only play Super Famicom games.
[EDIT] Actually it looks like they sell a version of it without an OS? So maybe you can do whatever with it.
Hmm.. I would say check out This as a starter, since there are a couple of games in the series. But it is cheap enough, I'm assuming your budget is less than 30 dollars since that's the typical 3DS/DS game prices. But I would say check out Phoenix Wright, it's a pretty good puzzle game and it makes you think on your feet on what to say during the trials. I normally don't like thinking on my feet, but it's fun to see the consequences change when you mess up, so yes. it is possible to fail a case and move onto another one.
You can also check out Animal Crossing: New Leaf for a simple game as well. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as well for a puzzle/action game. That's all I can think off on the top of my head for the 3/DS games. Enjoy! :)
I want a DS because I love Pokemon and yet I've never owned a portable Nintendo console nor have I played a Pokemon game other than on an emulator.
Sadly, there isn't a DS pokemon game under $20, so the other game I played on the DS and loved: Elite Beat Agents
Radler is rad and so is Brad
EDIT:realized that I typed 3DS by accident, but silly me!
These are what I use, they might not be exactly what you're looking for, but they are my old standby tools.
Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten for DS is good for scribbling characters out and getting a response. It's not very tough on stroke order, though sometimes if you completely mess up the order the character won't come up right away. There are plenty of electronic dictionaries that let you write out kanji, too. As far as stroke order, Jim Breen's Online dictionary, search under Kanji Look Up, search the kanji and click on SOD or SODA (stroke order diagram). There are basic rules for stroke order, left to right, top to bottom (http://thejapanesepage.com/kanji/stroke_order reading this I realize I've been doing some wrong... I should really study more.)
DS software, way too expensive here, but this is it: http://www.amazon.com/Kanji-Dictionary-Sonomama-Rakubiki-Nintendo-DS/dp/B000O2S9VQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313021801&sr=8-1
Kanji Lookup on Jim Breen:
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1B
This one?
It never leaves my DSiXL, now that I have the 3DS for gaming. It's not meant to actually teach the language, it is actually a Japanese to English dictionary. You write the Kanji and it tells you words that use that Kanji. I had two years of Japanese study before I began using it, so I can't say how well it would work for extreme beginners, as it is a Japanese title first, and the menus and everything are in Japanese.
But as an alternative to an electronic pocket dictionary, it's fantastic (and I got it when it came out, so it was much cheaper than a dictionary then too. Not as much now.)
Professor Layton. The series is about an archaeologist who solves mysteries and the game is full of puzzles that make use of the touch screen. It's well written and the animation is absolutely charming. You'll be able to play the first four games in the series but you'll need a 3DS for the later games.
One can only wish
OP forgot to say, he got this from Amazon reviews.
Sounds like you need Cory in the House for the Nintendo DS. As you can see, it has nothing but stellar reviews. I'm sure you could beat it in no time!
Did you have an original DS/have you played any of those yet? The DS has a ton of great titles that you can play on your 3DS if didn't start there (or even if you did!)
Here's a long list of random games that you might enjoy:
A lot of these ios FF ports are the newer Nintendo DS version. Those versions were all remade in 3D and look a lot more modern compared to the originals... It is still hard to justify the high prices of Square Enix, but SE is overpriced on all of their top franchise games.
Even on ios the prices are still high compared to other apps, but if you are a FF fan these are all great ports. Also this 50% sale is the best I typically see SE do on their ios apps.... so if you are tempted do it now or they go back up to 16 bucks again.
(here is price tracker http://appshopper.com/games/final-fantasy-iv)
Just an FYI this is the cheapest price it has ever gone.
> Just for a cross comparison...
> Here is cost of FF IV for Nintendo DS brand new http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-IV-Nintendo-DS/dp/B00184219U it's 20 bucks, so for the ios ported version of it for only 8 is a great deal.
im wishin for amazon gift card, so I can put it towards getting a ps vita and persona 4 the golden :>
for gift two, one of these, two would get over twenty, but even one would be awesome :> tryin to get two at some point so me and my fiancee can blast through it together.
C'mon...gimme.
man that phrase feels rude xD but its just mah raffle ticket :P and I cant see you guys but im sure you're lookin like saints.
This was mostly what i was referring to, which is as you said, new in the box (i think.)

55 new from CDN$26
Uh...what? These were almost all DS exclusives.
The World Ends With You, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts, 999, Chinatown Wars, Chrono Trigger, Castlevania, Contra, Elite Beat Agents, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Scribblenauts and N+
Oh, I would love it!
One of my favorite video games: http://www.amazon.com/Phoenix-Wright-Ace-Attorney-Nintendo-DS/dp/B000B69E96/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370579269&sr=8-1&keywords=phoenix+wright
Wait but I thought you were looking for 3DS games....?
There are Professor Layton games for DS as well that are really good, if you have one of those. I also LOVE the Phoenix Wright games. They sound kind of boring but they're so much fun, so challenging and absolutely the best games I've ever played. And they also take forever to play so such a good investment. You can get the first one for $20 on Amazon.. It is actually the best game I've ever played (at least on DS) I think.
The medium is generally called Visual Novels. As story-telling vehicles, they run the range of linear stories with pictures and music to the equivalent of those old D&D "gamebooks" with character sheets and combat systems and if you rolled a 4 turn to page 88. (Though if it goes too far in this direction you'll have purists claiming it's a dating/princess/whatever sim instead of a visual novel.)
Content-wise, just like other novels they can be about pretty much anything, including scraping the bottom of the
alt.sex.stories
barrel.> Are they just cartoon sex simulators for sad pervs
Lots of them are. Porn gets everyone's attention and sex sells (probably should mark this one NSFW), so they're what everyone hears about.
> or is there more to them
Plenty more. Steam's been collecting a few recently, both translated from Japanese and original titles.
As with anything else, Sturgeon's Law applies.
> I've never seen a game like this in a store
Look a little harder :)
I would love to have a handheld gaming system again, I haven't had one since the original Game Boy. I also have been wanting to play this game since I heard about it. Lawyer video game > actually studying for the bar. :D Thanks for the contest! Radler is rad.
Happy 1 year anniversary!
This technically isn't $10 or less, but I would paypal you $10 to make up the difference. I know that's iffy as far as your rules go, but it doesn't hurt to try, right.
I'm still a kid at heart
I think my favorite moment was playing A Link To The Past for the first time and literally staying up all night with paper around me to figure out puzzles (I was only about 12 at the time, they were still hard!).
This one, because I don't have it yet
If I win, used is fine if you want to save some money or pick another winner :D
FF tactics is a great one, though it's far inferior to the PSX version.
I can also whole-heartedly recommend Golden Sun, though it's not as deep of an RPG, it's extremely fun. Etrian Odyssey is as hardcore as they come, so it may or may not be your cup of tea. You actually explore and draw your own dungeon maps in it, and the class combinations are nuts.
If you aren't a big fan of JRPGs, you probably won't like The World Ends With You but you'd be doing yourself a great disservice if you skipped it.
There's also Chrono Trigger, which, if you never played it, deserves a chance to be seen. It is definitely an old school JRPG though.
FF3 and FF4 are both great if you like that kind of thing, but if you're not into JRPGs, again, you probably won't enjoy them.
I really loved the most recent Dragon Quest, even though it is decidedly old school and very much a JRPG in the traditional format. But it does a lot of things well, and the class system is deep and rewarding.
Bioware made a Sonic RPG, though I haven't played it so I can't recommend it.
The Castlevania games are all awesome, but they're RPGs like Diablo is an RPG.
well this was an easy pick for me, my favorite item from your list is the final fantasy game (my SO and I both play :D --well not me currently I'm taking a break to do other stuff) and this is an item from my wish list I'd love.
I love kevin <3 :D
7 Is my favorite game, ever.
"7 is overrated." :[
http://amzn.com/B000GABOTU
I'll start working on something right away :)
If you're limiting this to cartridge titles you're gonna' get fewer results, but I can recommend some:
Steel Diver, a decent submarine combat game from Nintendo.
Scribblenauts Unlimited - A good entry in a solid game series.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, a good strategy-RPG.
Also, regular DS games (which play on the 3DS). Unlike 3DS games, DS games are not region-sensitive, so you can play imports just fine on your US system, too:
Elite Beat Agents - Probably the best music-rhythm game on the DS.
Rhythm Heaven - Another very good music-rhythm game, albeit more in the abstract.
Sonic Colors and Sonic Rush - Surprisingly good Sonic games.
Mama's Combo Pack - I've never played Camping Mama, but Cooking Mama is a great series of food-themed touchscreen minigames.
Geometry Wars: Galaxies - A great space shooter
WarioWare DIY - A fun entry in Nintendo's "microgame" series, with a "custom build it yourself" twist.
N+ - A simple, but extremely fun and challenging, ninja platformer game.
Pac Pix - A fun arcadey game where you draw Pac-Man to eat ghosts.
Jam Sessions and its sequel - Not a game as much as a tool to create music. Still, very good.
Bust-A-Move DS - A surprisingly good version of this classic puzzle game series with touchscreen support.
Polarium DS - A good, if simple, puzzle game.
Touchmaster, More Touchmaster, Touchmaster Connect and Touchmaster 3 - Good minigame collections.
Pipe Mania - A decent take on the old "Pipe Dream" puzzle game.
I considered getting one awhile back but they all were really pricey to order from the US and I didn't think I was advanced enough yet to make good use of it. Instead, I took the recommendation of some guy on YouTube and got this:
Kanji Dictionary: Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O2S9VQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_ppFkQuEHMshEi
If you have a DS (or even just buy one for this) it's a fraction of the cost and has most of the same features. It has kanji drawing recognition for looking up words whose pronunciation you don't know and the Japanese-English dictionary is way more reliable than internet dictionaries (you can tell because the definitions make better sense and the example sentences are actually readable). I am happy that I settled for the DS cartridge for now because it's more than adequate at the intermediate level.
Commenting for when I get to my computer.
EDIT: I am OK with used for all of these, except for the PC game (because Steam doesn't let you buy used).
PS3: ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. I want to play this game because I've been very interested in the "games as art" argument for a while and this is supposedly the best example of such.
PC: BioShock. My best friend Mikey says this is his favorite game ever. Considering he's never played it, I'm not sure what he's talking about. However, the story looks wonderful and I really dig FPSes on PC.
DS/3DS: Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I have heard a ton about this game, all of it good. For some reason it's impossible to find, so I haven't bought it yet.
Card game/Board game: If it counts, this YuGiOh! card. I've been working on a Cyber Dragon deck for forever, and I'm four cards away from finishing it. This is one of those cards, and the price went up a ton since the Cyber Dragon Revolution structure deck came out.
Wild card: Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Fire Emblem is one of the best series ever. It's combination of strategy and storytelling makes it a wonderful experience.
My favorite game is Fire Pro Wrestling Returns.
oh! i would def be interested. i'm trying to save up for one for my son. he has been asking for one for so long now. Favorite video game. of all time. lol
Edit: Favorite DS game.
From what it's showing me, I'd have to go with Professor Layton.
The game adaptation is out now and it's got rave reviews: https://www.amazon.com/Cory-House-Nintendo-DS/dp/B00134YL8E#customerReviews
You could probably use Amazon UK. A friend of mine in Finland always orders from there due to the lack of a .fi site, so I imagine you could do the same from Sweden. Apparently some things don't ship, but the majority do.
Yes
For you Because Kingdom hearts is a fantastic series, even if the DS games aren't quite as awesome as the PS2 games. ;)
For me/husfriend Playstation 2 contoller because we only have one working one now and the husfriend and I want to play games together. (;n;)
Also Y U NO GIFT YOURSELF!!?!? I love Kevin THE MOST INTERESTING MAN ON RAoA!! ;P
I love Kevin because he wants (and deserves) Kingdom Hearts on DS!
when i was much younger my best friend and i would work odd jobs all summer long and combine our cash at the end to buy some sort of video game or video game gear. then wed spend the next few months playing just that and then start working again. it was a ton of fun and actually taught us some good lessons haha
I'm still a kid at heart!
Dragon Quest IX - $18.49
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn - $11.38
Total just under $30.
First off, happy birthday! :D
Finishing my finals has made me happiest. Also I turned in all my application materials for a internship with the Department of Transportation and I'm pretty much guaranteed to get the job :)
Also my favorite foods are sushi, steak, and chicken alfredo :P
I really would like this DS game, but its like $13 once you include shipping, so if that's not possible, then this movie would be nice! It was one of my favorites when I was younger :)
Event Pokémon are limited time Pokémon and back on the DS I had a gameshark to hack in any event Pokémon that I didn’t have. Some of these event Pokémon caused special things to happen in the games like unlocking the ability to catch the Regi trio in HGSS or Spikey Eared Pichu.
This is more about experiencing something again and realizing that in order to do so with what I have I’d have to literally erase the old saves, not about getting a living dex.
Also in terms of “buy a new copy of old games”, digital ones from Nintendo are one thing, but this is just ridiculous
This should help.
Heart gold or soul silver for the DS. It's close to $60 on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-SoulSilver-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0038MTE7C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368371549&sr=8-1&keywords=pok%C3%A9mon+soulsilver
Several hundred was exaggerating a bit, but they're definitely not cheap .
Gen I though...
I've never wanted a game so bad I'm trying to figure out why its almost $90...
You're pretty.
The closest thing I can get to come to $20 so far, including shipping I assume, is Okami Den. $11.98 + $7.99 shipping for a grand total of $19.97. Let's see if I can find something closer.
But I don't want the Snow, snow, go away. I like my snow.
Then boy do I have the video game for you!
Awesome contest!
My favorite game on my list!
Ds was my favorite hand-held system. :D
I and a game collector and i take care of my stuff. So it would go to a good home. It will be used by my fiance the most (I have a 3DS) but she wants to play on it when i am or wants to play tetris with me. and this I think would be the best game for her she lover the first one. Radler is rad thanks for the contest :D
OH GAMES! I can't decide just one so these two are pretty grool:
My favorite game is Touch Detective. I love all of them. I cant wait for the next one! Whenever it actually gets released here that is :( New or used is fine with me! Thanks so much for this contest :) It's an awesome idea!
My favourite game is... Skyrim and Bioshock Infinite, both for xBox, and Pokemon SoulSilver for DS
Thanks for the contest!

It looks like it.

Hah, I just made a post that was vaguely similar... I'd actually say check it out and see if there are any you haven't played but that sound interesting to you. I'd be really happy to elaborate on the appeal of any of the games on that list that I enjoyed.
The first one I'd say you should give a try is Bow Street Runner, though, which is a surprisingly good flash detective game with a nice historical element to it. The puzzles aren't that difficult but are enjoyable enough, the acting is actually reasonably good, you get to be a detective in Georgian England, and it's just fun.
I'd also say Ghost Trick should be something that you would definitely enjoy. It's basically your brief - a high focus on story and character development, solving puzzles & intrigue, and a bit of a pressure element (difficulty). You can't go wrong here. I loved the shit out of it, and I think you will too. Since you mentioned having a DS, try this!
Also, if you have an Android phone, Layton Brothers: Mystery Room is definitely a must try. It's a series of Locked Room Murders that you have to solve, and it resembles the AA games much more than it does the Layton games in terms of how it goes. The characters are all pretty fun as well, and I really enjoyed this and would strongly recommend it as well.
Edit: I also totally forgot to mention - 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. It's a puzzle/visual novel kind of thing, and I found it very engaging. The plot is definitely sort of a brain twister kind of thing in the 'what even is going on' sense, but everything is explained in a pretty satisfactory way at the end. Definitely consider this one. It's basically Room Escape: The Game, but it does that very well.
It takes two seconds to search for something on Amazon.
Or eBay.
Start with this
Then get this
And never save during an "escape" sequence, only during "story" sequences. There's a bug and it might corrupt your save data.
I would love to get the DS for my mom. When I was a little kid, she would play Pokemon with me all the time and I'd love to play the games with her again. I'd give her my old DS, but sadly mine broke and I had to replace it with a 3DS. I bought a copy of each Pokemon game when I had a job so I don't need any of those. Admittedly selfish of me, I'd like this game for myself.
Edit: I somehow managed to forget that Radler is rad

Animal Crossing: Wild World: It's an amazing game and was one of my first games on a Nintendo DS. There's so much to do in the game and I would really recommend it. Also, the more recent Animal Crossing (New Leaf) is a huge improvement from Wild World. I would deeply recommend that aswell, but it's for 3DS.
Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands: Harvest Moon is a game that's similar to Animal Crossing but it's mostly about looking after your farm, growing crops, raising animals, etc. It's extremely fun and a huge time sink.
Pokemon Black 2: It's a Pokemon game, you can't really go wrong. It's like every other Pokemon game - Fun as heck! You can also buy Pokemon White 2 which is just about the same with little differences like the UI. A list of differences can be found HERE.
My list may not really be descriptive as they're my personal opinion on the games, but if you want to know more about the games, ask me :)
Hi :)
Pokemon Black 2
I havent had a chance to get it yet.. and I really want to play because its pokemon... lol
I would be interested =] Of course pokemon is my favorite, played it on my old gameboys =P Thanks for the contest! =]
I prefer the Retro Duo Portable. Because, well, its portable. Plays SNES straight into the system, NES with adapter (comes with purchase) and Genesis games with adapter (sold separately)
Favorite video game... probably any of the pokemon games
Pokemon, obviously the most American game in existence.
Freedom! "Beulah red" is the name of the red marble that gives the Colorado State Capitol its distinctive splendor. Cutting, polishing, and installing the marble in the Capitol took six years, from 1894 to 1900. All of the "Beulah red" marble in the world went into the Capitol. It cannot be replaced, at any price, so you know, that's pretty freaking American.
I would love any [DS pokemon game] (http://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-TWLPIRDO-Pokemon-White-Version/dp/B0050SVNP8/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=WBB8O3G5V4D7&coliid=I3JB1MPLTFBFHQ), linked for example, really any pokemon game that will work on a 3DS system would be loved and appreciated, used is fine. I've loved pokemon since I was 10 :) And played the games up till Gen III, now I'm trying to catch up!
Thanks for the contest, and Get a real life, NERD!!!

Having not played a Pokemon game since Leaf Green (jeez that makes me feel old) I would love Pokemon black version 2. You also mentioned tabletop games This one I wanted for my birthday last month but was out of stock so I wasn't able to get it.

I see them on Amazon
You can get the most recent Pokemon black 2 for $27.

Just checked.
Current prices from Amazon US and ebay US in USD. Summer 2016.
[Y Version](https://amzn.com/B00KI2OZ9M) and Omega Ruby are roughly the same price as when they launched at $39.99. If anything they're a few dollars cheaper due to slight age and price fluctuation.
But a game like Black Version 2 is about $60 new and $45 used. It is a last gen game and no longer in production.
And finally the worst example, and the game that many people want to play, is the English version of HeartGold and SoulSilver. Price fluctuates around $100 for new and used English games.
Amazon /// ebay
Japanese imported versions are much cheaper, $30 on Amazon. Sadly, only the current gen of Pokemon Games has language options. For the other 5 generations you need to buy the game in your language; or learn Japanese.
HIIII! You told me to enter so here I am!!!!!!
Part 1: I would either choose to play A Final Fantasy Game or a Pokemon game first!
Part 2: Ok I cheated little on this, I have zero(and I mean zero) artistic ability so I asked my wonderful sister(more artistic than me) /u/lee4nn to help me out a bit on this one and I will share if I am to win. Edit (for the lazy):
Almost anything on the DS is a decent start if you have one. Professor Layton is an amazing series with some great puzzles to keep her thinking. There's no combat and no hard new control schemes to learn. Phoenix Wright is another fantastic series but there is some violence in the sense of "murder-mystery/crime" stuff to set up the cases you take and the puzzles you solve. Again, no combat here, it's exclusively puzzle solving.
As old as it is, Myst is another great game to show her (I think anyway) that encourages puzzle solving and reading. You can also get it for pretty cheap. Personally, I prefer realMyst because you get to roam freely but the Masterpiece Edition is truer to the original and doesn't force you to use first-person controls.
If you have a game that uses the Source engine you might want to get Dear Esther for her to look at. It's not so much a game as it is an interactive story told using a first person perspective. There's no combat or anything you simply walk around and explore an island. There's a bit of a ghost story aspect to it but it's not scary at all. It's closer to mysterious. Since TF2 is free you should be able to get Dear Esther to work without buying HL2 or anything like that.
While I really enjoy Portal and love Portal 2 I don't think they're necessarily good games for people new to gaming. The first-person perspective can be a HUGE barrier to entry especially for people that think of things like Mario when they think of games. Plus, if you're looking for a 'wonderful story' Portal's story doesn't really fit the bill (IMO). It's wonderful in the sense that it has wit and charm and some depth if you want to really over-interpret it but in the end it's a short game about escaping from a test facility.
Holy crap, there's a lot more of them then I had previously thought. I take it this is the first one? I have never really played these types of games before, but always up for something fresh and new!
Amazon has the first one starting at $13.70.
I'm interested in your Zelda Collector's Edition as long is it plays fine. I can offer Lunar: Dragon Song CIB for DS, Shin Migami Tensei IV (Game & Box only) for 3DS, and Final Fantasy III CIB for DS if you're interested in any of those.
1:Game I would play I played this game on the SNES.. it was the first FF game I EVER player.. I remember how much I loved it... I played i 20 - 30 times... Stands as one of my Fav FF ever. Ummm behind FF7....

7 IS OVERRATED!
The very first game I would play is probably Elite Beat Agents. This game got me through a very hard time in my life, and I would love to revisit it!
Here's my drawing! I hope you enjoy it and good luck to everyone in the contest! :D
If that's the case, then go with straight up Bejeweled, everyone likes Bejeweled. But don't let that discourage YOU from getting Puzzle Quest.
And don't forget about other DS games, other than puzzle:
Animal Crossing
攻撃開始へ最終手続
こうげきかいしへさいしゅうてつづき
final procedures toward commencement of attack
Problem is it's an image so unless you do some OCR it won't be so easy to just plug into Google translate. BUT, for those of you studying Japanese here are some good tools.
Google translate for one, obviously.
Kanji Dictionary Lookup (By stroke number and radicals) - If you're studying Japanese, it is SO important to understand how to count number of strokes (not as intuitive as it may seem) and different radical types.
Kanji Dictionary
Rikaichan (Firefox extension that will let you hover and get hiragana readings for kanji as well as English and definitions. For a word to word basis, I think it's better than Google Translate.)
Rikaichan
EDIT One more good reference I forgot to mention. If you have a Nintendo DS, I find that Kanji Dictionary: Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten is a great starter dictionary that allows you to directly input kanji for easy lookup. It's so much more convenient to write in a character than use the stroke order / radical lookup system of most web based dictionaries. The only thing is now stroke ORDER becomes pretty important for the software to register input correctly. So don't skimp on understanding proper stroke order. It is not the same just because it looks the same. (Although if your stroke order is out of whack, your Kanji will probably look out of order too from an native's perspective.) Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten
Ah, thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I can probably find similar sources for my field by going through all the technical documentation that's out there; I've already been doing a bit of very rough translation work for the company (slowly, and with a lot of help from WWWJDIC and the life-saving DS Kanji Dictionary), but hadn't considered it as a potential avenue for study.
Any tips for getting in some verbal conversation practice on short notice? I'm in the process to trying to find a tutor / conversation group in my area but a lot of the leads have fallen through.

I'd most likely just play one of the games you'd send since I don't own a DS or any other games. They seem like a lot of fun anyway!
7 is overrated!
I have Brain Age and Mario, going to pick up the other 3 on my list next time I fly home.
Brain Age
Super Mario
GTA Chinatown Wars
Final Fantasy IV
Mario Kart
You can easily play the other Final Fantasy games on your computer as well, though not through Steam. Square Enix just (like, yesterday) rereleased FF7 for the PC. You can buy that here for $10. FF7 is definitely one of the best FF games and probably RPGs ever made so this is a pretty good place for you to start.
The other FF games can be pretty easily played on your computer as well. You will need to download ROMs from a site like this one as well as an emulator. For FF 4, 5, and 6, you will find the ROMs in the SNES section, which can be played with ZSNES. You could also buy a 3D remake of FF4 for your DS. For FF 8 and 9 they are in the Playstation 1 section and can be played with pSX. The PS2 ones you should probably pay for but the older ones I doubt anyone cares too much since they aren't sold anymore. If you are unsure which to start with, start with 6, its the best.
Someone might recommend Breath of Death or Cthulhu Saves the World since they're the only turn based JRPGs on Steam I know of... don't bother. They've very cheap but very mediocre games and pretty much nothing like the FF games.

I actually have a crazy one on my list. I want the game, but not for that freaking insane of a price. It wasn't that much when it first came out, I'm betting, it's certainly not worth it this much later. I only really have it on there to remind myself I want the game.

I am 100% in love with the whole Zelda series. Those were some of the first games I beat all the way to the end, and the story lines are all wonderful. I'd say my favorites of those have to be Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time. Such wonderful stories, super fun dungeons, interesting items, just great games all around! :D
As for what I'd want from Amazon, I'm gonna have to go with Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It's the only Kingdom Hearts game I haven't had the opportunity to play, and I desperately want to. I intend to get 1.5 Remix the day it's available, but watching a cinematic just isn't the same as actually playing the game for myself. <3
Also, Eggplant Wizard!! :D
Thank you for the contest!!
Not sure why, but I'm sensing a bit of anger in your post.
If they are CIB, then maybe you should list them as such instead of putting "Nintendo DS (Most Cartridge Only)" right above your list, just a helpful suggestion. xD
And as for the price of the 2 games:
Kingdom Hearts RE:Coded Brand New For $20.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days Brand New For $20.
Not sure why you are even posting when you don't have an offer? No reason to be angry...

hmmm?
JRPG
Not sure what style of games you like, but if you're into Pokemon, you may like RPG-style games as well. I suggest you check out:
Anyhow, those are my faves. There are so many others to list, but those four alone would keep you busy for years
Happy early birthday!! :D My birthday is the day after yours!
I think you should get this because the game is awesomeeee or maybe this because I have heard good things about it (:

Where are you going with 150 to 200?
SoulSilver is on Amazon for like 50 to 80 dollars used. Don't bother trying to buy it new, you can erase the saved data of someone's previous playthrough by UP+SELECT+B at the start screen.

There are no Gen 1 remakes for the 3DS.
Pick up X or Y, and OmegaRuby or AlphaSapphire. They should satisfy you until Sun/Moon comes out.
You know, that's for the "new in box price"
https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-SoulSilver-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0038MTE7C/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1473193771&sr=1-1&keywords=soulsilver
I should have been looking at the used ones for closer to 100.

http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-SoulSilver-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0038MTE7C
Is the one example I can think of that makes me foam at the mouth
OP, I do have to mention that usually Nintendo games in general don't lose value, when they become out of print. In fact sometimes they go up, like with the Pokemon games (Heart Gold is 294.99!!! on Amazon right now, https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-HeartGold-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0038MVFYC)
There's no issues you have to deal with a used Wii U, since if you can just erase the system data once you get it and make your own nintendo ID account. If you get it refurbished from Nintendo's website, then it's probably already done for you, and from what I've heard it runs well since when they're refurbishing they replace most of the components with new replacements anyway.
Sadly titles on the Wii U, don't go for sale frequently at least not first party. Usually Capcom, and others are good for digital sales, I think they had Monster Hunter 3U for the Wii U on sale recently for 13.59. You usually have to look to retail for better prices on older games, such as Super Mario World 3D(which imo is the best 3D mario game as of now) is selling for $20 through the Nintendo selects program. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AC3ZD06/ref=crt_ewc_title_huc_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)
Wind Waker HD is also cheaper than it was when it was first released, because it's now part of the Nintendo Selects program, so it goes for $20. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NJ0HTH0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)
Heart Gold for sale on Amazon $134.99!!!
Used Pre-owned copies are $45 (That's more than X/Y Cost new, or OR/AS new)
Well amazon seems to have them for over 200 flipping dollars
I love RAOA because all of the people on here are genuine and nice. It's such an amazing thing to see such awesome people online!
I think this Pokemon Heart Gold is a perfect example of something gold!
Can I Haz Gold? :D
The first game I'd play is Pokemon Heartgold! I already have it. My reasoning for wanting the DS is because I used to have one, but it broke :( I never got to finish like half of the games I have...
Moogle! 7 is overrated !
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-45496740641-Pokemon-HeartGold-DS/dp/B0038MVFYC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335113824&sr=8-1
though looks like the price went up to £40 since i bought it, some of the 2nd hand ones are cheap though
http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-HeartGold-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0038MVFYC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345749776&sr=8-1&keywords=heartgold
Seriously? I guess they want people to buy the newer versions of the game. I mean, it is two years old, and they release them every year right? I think.
Well they tested the product to see if it had scratches so technically it was "carefully tested". Their definition is different then some of the consumers defintion.
It obviously sucks for OP but the policy does allow him to get his money back or the right version of the game he wanted.
You know I was going to also bring up that maybe OP's parents should have just bought new, but one quick google search and this the first result I could buy a copy on I see why they bought used.
Just buy a new one for 135 FREAKING DOLLARS NOT INCLUDING SHIPPING
http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-HeartGold-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0038MVFYC
Thanks. I guess I'll just have to buckle down, save up, and find one somewhere used.
Also, yep, some sellers on Amazon are selling it for $290 to $380
Ok so, I wasn't familiar with the price so I decided to do a little research.
The lowest price on Amazon (for used) is $67, but that's with the Pokewalker and I feel it's overpriced.
So, can you do $35 + shipping?
It's supercute. It's a sequel to Okami (if you haven't played that, you need to. it's been released on a bunch of different systems, but originally for ps2).
In Okamiden, basically you are a wolfpup son of a goddess, and you travel around the land and learn special powers with the help of friends. Your powers are the ability to paint/draw (with your tail!) on the world to different effects--if you draw a line across enemies, you slash them, if you draw a circle around dead trees, you bring them back to life...stuff like that. And your friends have different abilities and help you solve puzzles to complete dungeons and defeat enemies.
It's a really charming game. Even though it is for DS, I will forever recommend it, because the gameplay utilizes the touchscreen SO WELL, and it is just adorable, really fun, and so so sweet. I totally cried at the end. <3
There are some tie-ins to the original game that you may miss if you haven't played it, but nothing that will prevent you from enjoying Okamiden on its own.
Here is a short little trailer so you can see what it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP-n2xrqWH4
It is probably one of my favorite games on the DS family of systems. Top 5 for sure. It's very good.
Edit: It also has a silly sense of humor and doesn't take itself too seriously, which I appreciate. There are lots of lighthearted moments and dumb groaner jokes peppered throughout. It's really great. I replay it every few years because it is just that good. If you can find it for a good price, it is totally worth it. It's on amazon for under $30, which I think is a good price for it :https://www.amazon.com/Okamiden-nintendo-ds/dp/B003IOGPAO/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1522293140&sr=1-1&keywords=okamiden&dpID=61KrFn5BvGL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
/u/cthylla! Another awesome friend from the IRC~ Picking out this from her Games list because it's a good game and I know she wants to play it.
Tyara, I'm not used to the username yet.

This please
I'd like this please or else a giftcard.
Thanks for the contest! <3
The reprinted one with the new cover is on Amazon for only $20. This one says it's Volume 1 of the Zero Escape series, and imo, looks better. The other one has a cover of the group, but the games are exactly the same. No new/removed content on the newest printing.
I REALLY WANT TO SEE Super Smash Bros 3ds and try it at bestbuy
I WANT TO PLAY 999 19.98
But I really want to see more on ps4 and xbox 1,I own a pc but I want to see what The next gen games will bring, also want to hear more about the drm on xbox 1 That seems really lame .That u have to have a pal on ur FL to lend a game out
http://www.amazon.com/9-Hours-Persons-Doors-Nintendo-DS/dp/B003VR5PPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462732269&sr=8-1&keywords=999
You can play a US copy on a EU 3DS, so there you go. It's only about £15
999: 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors
Love this game to bits but you have to like mystery/visual novel type games. There is a LOT of reading, it's literally dispersed into puzzle and novel portions, but if you want to experience a story that'll blow your goddamn mind I totally recommend it.
More games like this that are heavily story/puzzle based:
Ace Attorney series
Hotel Dusk
Ghost Trick
These are all pretty hard to find in stores but most of them are pretty cheap on amazon right now. ghost trick ,999, hotel dusk
The first one is a DS game, so yes you can buy the DS cart and play it just fine on a 3DS.
It's currently $21.90 on Amazon new
It is, It's an DS game
Dude, it's less than 20 on Amazon
> Most of the VN's aren't available there. Availability is a little fuzzy when it comes to these things. I don't know where else they're even distributed.
He did mention Amazon. You'd have to buy the Japanese version and then apply a translation patch afterwards. A bit of Googling turns up a few other shopping sites as well.
For games that have not been officially released in the west:
Games with official western releases (or OELVNs):
Relatively cheap
I love this! I might actually steal this idea when I start packing up.
I have several interests but I'll have to say that I've kind of had a kick recently learning about mysterious disappearances. For example, Ambrose Small Canadian Millionaire entered his office and mysteriously vanishes. It was a very popular case at the time and even Sir Arthur Conan Doyle expressed interest in the case but decided not to peruse it.
Another one that I find really interesting is the mysterious case of Nicholas Barclay who, at the age of 13, never makes it home from the basketball court. What makes this whole thing interesting is that Frederic Bourdin, a French con-artist, successfully impersonated the lost boy in spite of looking nothing like him (he had brown eyes where as Nicholas had blue) and speaking in a heavy French accent. There is a fantastic documentary about the whole ordeal called 'The Impersonator' on netflix. Frederic admitted to authorities of not being Nicholas after five months and told authorities that Nicholas' mother had confessed to him that she knew that he was not Nicholas because she had helped dispose of his body. Definitely suspicious but Frederic is a con-man so it's hard to know if what he said was true. We'll probably never know what became of Nicholas.
I think this represents me the best because I love challenges, mysteries, and weird kidnapping cases.
looks fun
Here is the mobile version of your link
Dude, you can get Radiant Historia right now.
Amazon.
I ordered this earlier in the month, and just got notification that it shipped.
I think you would enjoy this DS game. I've heard it's a good RPG.
Also, you can use them by making a US iTunes account. That's how I get English language applications. It can be hard to get iTunes codes though and they don't accept non-US cards.

I tried so hard to ignore Diablo III, but when I saw a playthrough of the monk in the open beta, I blacked out a few minutes into it. When I came to, I found myself on this page. Unfortunately I don't have enough money at the moment to buy it when it comes out, but I'll definitely be looking forward to playing it when I do.
I understand what you mean about Skyrim though, I've sunk about 30 hours into the game and can't bring myself to play the damn thing anymore (though admittedly, that's probably more gameplay than I could get out of a lot of games these days). There's just too much content and not enough substance in some of these open world games, and for some reason all the decent linear RPGs have been floating over to the mobile market like you said. Just look at some of the JRPGs the DS has to offer, like The World Ends With You (more commonly known as: "The Best Thing Square Enix Has Done In Years") and Radiant Historia (both of which could probably be emulated if you so desired). So yeah, buying a PSP or DS might not be a bad deal.
On an unrelated note, can I ask you a quick question? I haven't played any Zelda games since ALTTP and have been looking to get back into the series for a while now, but can't really decide which one I should jump into. So, between Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Wind Waker, which would you recommend the most?
Hopefully this can help you.

You're right in the initial period when Nintendo is still making the game. But what happens when the game goes out of print and the game becomes rarer as people buy up the remaining copies?
Pokemon Platinum, being sold by a seller that's not Nintendo.
Because of it rarity, the game is worth a lot more new than it did when it launched. Supply and demand.
Additionally, look at the used game prices for games at Gamestop. Nintendo doesn't set those prices but Gamestop does because they know how valuable Nintendo games are. They know they can sell you a copy of Pokemon Pearl for $30 or Xenoblade for $80. Sure, it might be unreasonable, but prices are set that way because people buy them for that price.
Works every time
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-45496740634-Pokemon-SoulSilver-DS/dp/B0038MTE7C
And Pokemon has almost doubled in price. Pokemon Soul Silver/Heart Gold are now $80.
I got mine for $35 with the pokewalker and everything. now the pokewalker alone is $35.
Edit: Oh, and someone is trying to sell a pokemon GC game for $10,000. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0007KHLNC/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1376880037&sr=8-14
