Best nintendo switch batteries & chargers according to redditors
We found 429 Reddit comments discussing the best nintendo switch batteries & chargers. We ranked the 51 resulting products by number of redditors who mentioned them. Here are the top 20.
uhh there's a first-party solution for that. it's $20, has a charge port and the angle can be adjusted. I use mine for all tabletop use
Here are some of the chargers that are known to perform "GOOD" or "BEST" with the Switch.
---------
Best
Charger|Price (USD)|Link|Notes
--|--|--|--
Nintendo Switch AC Adapter|$29.99|Amazon US|This is the only charger you should use with the dock but it's big and doesn't work great with any phones
Google 18W Pixel charger|$35|Google Store|More portable than Nintendo's charger, great at charging phones too, 6ft detachable cable
Google 60W USB-C charger|$59.99|Google Store|Bundled with Chromebook Pixel 2, great for laptops, very long 12ft cable
Apple 61W USB-C charger|$69|Amazon US, Apple|Bundled with 2016 13" MacBook Pro, no cable included
Apple 87W USB-C charger|$79|Amazon US, Apple|Bundled with 2016 15" MacBook Pro, no cable included
RAVPower 26800mAh USB-PD battery|$74.99|Amazon US|Might charge much slower unless you turn off the Switch before plugging it in. Avoid the included bad AC adapter.

Cables
I won't list prices here since they fluctuate a lot. Some of the chargers listed above have a non-removable cable. All the others (except the iPad charger) require a USB C-to-C cable.
USB C-to-C: For the Macbook, Google, SONEic, and battery pack chargers listed above. Here are a few on Amazon: AmazonBasics,
Anker, Cable Matters, Aukey.
USB A-to-C: The iPad charger is the only one that gives good charging speeds with these. The 5ft cable included with the Pro Controller works. Here are some others on Amazon: AmazonBasics, Anker, Cable Matters, Aukey.
No matter which charger you use, it doesn't matter whether the cable says it's USB 2.0, USB 3.0, or USB 3.1. They all charge at the same speed. Just make sure it has the correct plug shape on each end, that it has good reviews at a reputable merchant, and that it's long enough for how you want to use it.
Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand - Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D12JGBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gsYQBb9QQ7Q16
Regular Nintendo Switch! Buy an HDMI cable and compatible USB-C dongle (I got this one off of Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D6GXHKV/) so you don't need the docking station, and bring the original power adapter along. Now you can play the Switch on your hotel TV!
I've hooked mine up to almost every TV in hotels I've stayed at across the world. All the TV needs is an HDMI port and you're good to go (sometimes you gotta figure out how to change the input, not too hard though).
Edit: I also recommend getting this small stand. Great for airplanes, trains, rooms with a desk and no TV, etc.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB
Good compilation. The only downside is that these don't include any cables so if you don't have the right USB-C charger laying around you're in for another $20 which puts most of these on par with the Nyko dock
I was wondering the same but realized, it's for this charging stand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D12JGBB
Ill build two routes handheld gaming and docked.
Docked
Switch - $300
Pro Controller -$65
Legend of Zelda BOTW - 44.99
Mario Kart 8 -$55
Total - $ 464.00
Handheld
Switch - $300
Legend of Zelda BOTW - 44.99
Nintendo Official Wall Charger - $28 (I choose this because I am very picky about power options with consoles and I know this will function)
Switch Case - $15 (This can be hit or miss a lot of people love butterfox but my two smelled like shit and opted for a better version, but for the price it is unbeatable, worth the risk of the smell)
Mario Kart 8 -$55
Total - $443
Games can be changed in and out but imo BOTW is the best game on the switch and Mario Kart 8 is loads of fun. I personally do not have a pro controller, mainly because I play strictly handheld but from what I have been told it is a must for docked gameplay.
Edit: In the future you are going to need a SD card. Especially if you are going the Digital route, again personally I prefer physical and the at of collecting the games but that is me.
Honestly wished you would link what you were talking about since I've never even seen these things before.

If you can wait around a month, Nyko's dock releases on Oct 31
Rather than wait or go for a third party dongle, I moved the components from the official dock into a more compact housing.
Amazon also has this on preorder. I ordered from there instead of Lamestop. I'd rather give my business to a better company.

currently using anything but the official wall charger risks killing your console.
they have them at target.

PowerA offers this one, also Nintendo licensed. Its been at its "50% off" price for most of the month.

It's not as portable, but I think this one is really cute. Doesn't seem to be available in either the US or Canada right now, though.

Charging Grip
Link: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N7RUZ49/
As someone else pointed out, there are contacts at the inside bottom of the rails for charging.
I actually picked up the battery grip for my main joycons, it has two AA batteries in each joycon and brings battery life from 20 hours up to about 200 hours and when they die I just have to toss some new AA batteries in instead of waiting for them to charge back up. It also adds much needed bulk and rubber grips which I find far more comfortable than the naked joycons.
I suggest the Joy Con Battery Pack. You don't even need to put batteries if you don't want to, the extra girth from the grips alone is amazing.
Tempered glass screen protector is a must IMHO.
You'll see many naysayers who say they've had their switches since day one, work at a concrete factory and cut diamonds with their switches and have no scratches.
Plain and simple, the switch screen is plastic. Plastic scratches easily. Well worth the $8 investment. I use the amfilm one, but the orzly has excellent reviews as well.
PowerA makes a nice dock that charges a pro controller and set of joycons.
One more thing, you'll want a microsd card. Even if buying all physical.
Get whichever is cheaper of these two.
128GB Samsung Evo Select MicroSD Card
128GB Sandisk Ultra MicroSD Card
I like this one better because it also charges the pro controller and its only $14.99

The AC adapter that it comes with will never leave my dock.
For an extra, I got this one Nyko is marketing for the Switch: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NB0G478/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It has foldable prongs, and a detachable Usb c to usb A cable. And it's $20 instead of $30
I think it is sold out everywhere. In the meantime I found this similar adapter from Nyko, but it will be released in October: https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499327770&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252
I wouldn't do it. The last time I backed a kickstarter in China promising something relatively simple I still got burned.
Apparently Nyko will be releasing a travel dock for about $50
There are several out there now and they all seem to work fine. Amazon has many listed. I own this one and it works as advertised. The Nyko one comes with an HDMI and Power Cable so its a good deal. Put the link to the Nyko one below the one I have. https://www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Converter/dp/B074MYLP9C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1505917683&sr=8-4&keywords=Switch+HDMI+Adapter

There, I reached out into the ether and found an original switch adapter
Wow! Both the original post and the comments are really thorough. I have to confess a lot of this is over my head.
I have a question: is it safe to use a 3rd-party converter with an official Nintendo AC adapter?
For example:
I'm hoping the converter simply acts as a pass-through, and that the power adapter works as it should.
EDIT: I hope links to Amazon are allowed. Apologies if they aren't. I wanted to make sure I identified the products I own.
Yep. It's the ARMS Joy-Con.
These are the closest that I could find to what you’re looking for:

You'd have to buy a charger that you can slot the controller in via the rail. I just bought this one a few days ago and it works great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0786BNC1L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you mean the charging stand, it's the official one (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB/)
On accessories - must haves definitely include (like everyone else said):
Less important things:
Before we get on to games, there's always the debate of physical vs digital. Indie games are often cheaper digitally because they have to partner with companies to release physical copies, but for most "big" titles physical or digital really depends on the game.
On to games. (these are the ones I have and can approve of)
TL;DR microSD card, screen protector, case. eShop card and get Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart at least.
Also: don't buy anything "Nintendo Switch" branded! They're literally the exact same things as the unbranded ones, just priced higher because of the logo.
It's not much cheaper than a charging grip, but there's this
As of right now, the only USB C power adapter that will work 100% with the Switch is the official AC Adapter.

Ignore the fact that it's a battery charger, these feel great to hold when playing with split Joy-Cons. Gives it that extra size making it easier to grip your hand over.
If you can try going to a GameStop or something, they likely have this on clearance for around $10 or less.

To keep it brief; Nintendo Switch draws about 8.9W at most while gaming in portable mode. Also, the Switch can only draw up to 2A due to its design.
A USB-A adapter (along with a USB-A to USB-C cable) supplies up to 5V 1.5A (7.5W) which is insufficient to charge while playing intensive games. The cable you linked is a USB-A to C, so presumably you were using a USB-A adapter which only supplies 7.5W. The Switch can draw more than this while in portable mode, which explains why your battery was still being depleted.
A USB-C adapter (along with USB-C to USB-C cable) supplies up to 5V 2A (10W) which is enough to slowly charge while gaming. (1) (2)
A USB-C adapter that supports USB-PD can supply up to 18W (voltage and current can vary) which can quickly charge the Switch while gaming. (1) (2)
Edit: Formatting
ohhh well its perfect to fast charge it handheld...
but i do recommend you the Official Nintendo Adapter if you are going to buy another one
In that case get this Nintendo Switch AC Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7RUZ49/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EPl1BbJ4W5TH0
But if you get a dock, buy this to store everything together when you move it. Zadii Hard Carrying Case Compatible with Nintendo Switch System, Travel Case Fit Switch Pro Controller https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074JFY4JF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_IRl1Bb7J6BQEX
Has room for everything stock plus extra pro or joycon controllers. I've flown with this.
I would advise against it, not because it could damage the switch; but because the output advertised on the box is too low to power the switch and play continuously.
I would suggest getting a second AC adapter instead. Or get one of these instead of a car charge, to add usb port and get a Nyko power kit
The US Switch charger is multivoltage and multifrequency - it lists support for 240V at 50Hz. It will work fine with an adapter.
It applies across the board really. For the past couple of years, we used to fear noncompliant USB-C to USB-A cables. USB-C to USB-C cables were usually fine. But a noncompliant device overdrawing by as much as 300%? I'll be picking up another OEM Nintendo charger. $25 is a small price to pay to protect a device that's now out of warranty.
According to amazon it’s 110-240V, but I don’t have a charger to verify this.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49
Doesn't matter. Look at the reviews for it.
https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Type-C-Connection-Power-nintendo-switch/dp/B01NB0G478
You can see that it's underpowered.
you're gonna have to wait for the reviews to come out. But if you wanna be safe, I'd recommend buying adapters made for switch like this
I'm not sure, but I don't think I would necessarily trust gamestop. I initially went there looking for an adapter for the dock. They didn't have any official ones but tried to sell me an unofficial one, telling me it would work with the dock. Then I looked at the small print on the package and it said it doesn't work with the dock.
Looking closer at the one you posted I don't think that will charge the dock. It might actually be the same one they tried to sell me. If you look at the description it really only tells you that it will power the switch. I don't see anything about the dock mentioned. In fact looking up the same product on Amazon i'm certain that it won't work for the dock.
>Ideal for charging Nintendo Switch tablet section while outside the dock

edit: oh, and of course this too
> Note: Not compatible with the official Nintendo Switch dock
I have a NYKO charger and the officially licensed one
Nyko makes one but only for one Pro Controller. I don't think a product exists yet to charge two at a time.
Edit: Guess you can Daisy chain them but you need a USB 3.0 connection.
> Connect multiple charge Blocks together from multiple platforms to create your own Custom charger. Connecting more than 2 charge Blocks requires a USB 3.0 connection
It's up for pre-order at Amazon:

What is the current situation for Switch travel docks? The last I heard, the first commercially available travel dock will be available by Nyko starting October 31st.
Are there any other docks that are now/will be available that are worth checking out?
Idk if this helps your investigation, but when my switch bricked, it still worked but it didn’t connect to the dock (original or 3rd party) I was however able to charge it using my pro controller usb (or any usb c I’d assume) connected to my computer. I was not able to transfer my saves as I needed to be connected to a AC adapter but Nintendo was able to successfully transfer my saves to a refurbished unit.
When I connected the switch to a 1st party dock, it would charge for half a second and disconnect leaving a blinking green light on the dock until I removed power to it. There was no video signal at all to my tv but everything still worked in handheld mode
Here is the dock my Switch was connected to when it was bricked
Here is a video I made of the issue
And here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Joy-AA-Battery-Pack-switch/dp/B071XXXK2X
I see it as listed at that price, no need to add to cart.
So these?
I have them and use them for Arms. Makes things feel comfortable and I like the added weight if you put batteries in them.
Maybe try these?
Makes the joycon chunkier AND increases battery life.
You should get the Joycon battery pack add on from Nintendo and it will make your Joycons much bigger.
I know that sounds like an internet spam ad for something else.
It is currently $15 on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XXXK2X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_qdW7Bb6Q8Y6PS
Nintendo already solved this problem and no wires to boot.
Switch AA battery pack

You'd have to buy multiple but can connect them together.
dock scratches aren't a huge deal anymore, but the screen protector is a must as well as a carrying case if you're the on the go type the skull & co is my favorite and i've owned a few cases (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/gripcase-a-comfortable-case-for-nintendo-switch#/). There are tons of alternate charging methods (here's a cheap cable https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Single-Voltage-Charger-Nintendo-support/dp/B073PV6XQ1/ref=sr_1_3?s=amazon-devices&ie=UTF8&qid=1520976214&sr=8-3&keywords=nintendo+switch+charger#customerReviews) oh and welcome to the community!

This site is a great read for chargers, power banks, cables, and has a few gift/traveling guides that you might find useful.
I love the Pro Controller (you may need two, I have a feeling you and your wife will fight over it.)
I don't know if it's to everyone's liking, but I find Diablo 3 an absolute blast and you can do local co-op docked or undocked with 4 people (each person can use 1 joycon, 2 joycons [one in each hand or both in a holder], or a different controller altogether.)
This is the tempered glass screen protector that is most often recommended on this sub. I like these Joy-Con holders - they make the Joy-Cons feel more like full-sized controllers and you can charge them right in the holder. You might want to get a bag to carry everything around in easily.
They want you to buy the official Nintendo charging stand
Like this?
>So apparently Yu-Gi-Oh does not support cloud saves. Does the game itself have any other means to help players secure their save games or progress?
The Switch has no way to back up saves outside of cloud saves. If it doesn't support it, you can't back up your saves.
>Can anyone recommend a stand that can charge the Switch (whether I slip the USB cable through an opening or whether there is a USB plug - either way works) and help prop the Switch at an angle comfortable for an adult playing wirelessly when sitting in coach during a flight?
Nintendo has an official charging stand. There's a USB C plug on the side where you can plug in a charger or battery bank.
Or regular adjustable stands for the Switch are pretty easy to come by.
>When you put the Switch in the dock and play in TV mode, is it normal that the Switch seems to charge really slowly (if at all)?
The Switch will charge more slowly if being actively used. It charges faster in sleep mode.
Okay, from experience (I have put this thing on a store shelf, an airplane desk, a work desk and a kitchen table) the kickstand is flimsy and very unbalanced, especially with the joycons attached. I suggest getting this product or something along the lines of it because boy does that thing FALL. I also recommend a travelling case that keeps your Switch and joycons (when attached) together in one piece. Any carrying case does this so you can pick whatever one you like and it will be fine. My one suggestion for cases is to pick a soft shell or hard, and avoid fabric at all costs. I had an incident where I was taking my Switch to work and the buttons/touch screen kept being pressed through the soft case, causing my Switch to overheat and stay on for a very long time. My battery was half way gone by the time I realized it. I highly advise not leaving anything loose in your backpack (minus the pro controllers, but even then I would put them in a small bag of some sort to make sure they don't get bumped), I can't even remember how many times people have mentioned to me that they have lost or broken something because it's loose.
Yea, this is the one I was thinking of.
Next month this comes out.

There are a few options on the four charger stand
For the Pokèball Plus, off the top of my head the only one I know is this Most of of the other "Charging stands" are just that - stands. The one I linked to has a piece that plugs into the USBC port, and holds the cover flap. For me makes it a little easier to hold, and drops right into the charger and starts charging, no need to hook the cord up.
Charging stand is apparently the listing

My "official" Hori Joy Con charging station, like this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZAUN5E always has my joycons docked on it. The thing is that the lights stay on for ages or seem to come on at random.
Last night I put four almost fully charged JCs on it and it was still lit up in the morning. Anyone else noticed super long charging times or unrepresentative leds?
Edit: Is it possibly because it charges incredibly slowly when the Switch is in sleep mode?
Yes, according to amazon description.

If it's the same as American voltages up in the Canada, it's 120v.
Ireland, and the UK use 220v
Did you buy the Switch new? Looked up a couple things and it definitely should be same as the US version from what I’m seeing. Here is a link to the charger with pics on Amazon that should have came in the box. https://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-HACAADHGA-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=switch+charger&qid=1562165324&s=gateway&sr=8-3

For the 110/240 issue, that's a tough one. I'd assume the one that the switch comes with will be localized, and if the label on it says 110/240, you'll be fine ordering any adapter.
Like this one!
www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49
If it says only one or the other, you'll need to be more careful and make sure you get the right one.
Edit: clarification about 110/240
Not sure how many accessories, etc we can link here... but here's the official US adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49
I'm also planning on trying to use my wall charger from my Nexus Pixel C.
EDIT: Hypothetically, based on this being officially licensed, you should also be able to use any 5v charger: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Speed-Charger-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01MZAUPD6/ref=pd_sbs_63_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=5JYPE68GCX24P1YCKW65
Only one, you can get another here
Nintendo Switch AC Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7RUZ49/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_BioZBb7JDHSD4
The AC plug will likely be the European one. You may need to buy a US Adaptor or a travel adaptor
I think most of your questions depend on how you plan to use your Switch. For me, 99.9% of the time I use it in handheld mode, so accessories important for my usage are different than someone who primarily uses it in docked mode.

Hope this helps as a starting point!
Just buy the OEM one.
Yes.
looks pretty clear from the product listings that it is a brick with an unremovable cord
Edit: the box comes with one of these. So if you plan to leave that set up by your TV I would plan on getting another for travel/on-the-go
There have been some tests out there with powerbanks (admittedly, those are not wall chargers) that did not put out enough power to charge the Switch during gameplay. For example, this one from Ars.
> I thought the Switch's USB-C charging port would mean I could use any standard external battery pack to charge the system away from an outlet on long trips. Testing with the Jackery Titan S, though, I was only able to get a trickle charge of about 1 percent every six minutes. That charge was so weak that, during normal gameplay, the Switch actually died on me while it was still plugged in to the external battery pack.
> This could just be an issue of Voltage—the packaged wall outlet is rated for 15V/2.6A, while the battery pack is only rated at 5V/3A—or it might be an issue with confusing USB-C charging standards. In any case, don't expect perfect compatibility with third-party chargers.
A standard iPhone wall charger is rated at 5V/1A (aka 5 watts). Based on what Ars learned, this seems woefully insufficient to charge a Switch during gameplay. It should charge your Switch (slowly) while it is in sleep mode.
However, you shouldn't need something as powerful as the 15V/2.6A wall adapter that's included with the Switch. That's really powerful, I suspect because it also powers the dock, and because Nintendo wants it to charge the switch relatively quickly even during gameplay.
Nyko is selling a portable Switch wall charger which they advertise as letting you "charge while you play". It puts out 2.4A but unfortunately the voltage isn't listed. But I suspect it's likely around 5V. If I'm right, it's very similar to a standard iPad wall charger which is rated at 5.1V/2.1A.
So if you have an iPad wall charger lying around, it should be sufficient to charge your Switch during gameplay. If you only have an iPhone charger, you may need to invest in something a bit more powerful.
The only caveat to all this is what Ars said, their problem could have been to inconsistent USB-C standards, and not with the power output of the powerbank itself. I really wish Nintendo would just put out a list of 3rd party charging solutions they know work.
Is this it [here on Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01NB0G478/ref=mp_s_a_1_1/130-1744743-2656306?ie=UTF8&qid=1521347600&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=nyko+switch+cable)?
If so, it has not so great reviews, though that seems mainly due to people thinking it can work with the dock. Again, I'd just save up $30 if you can and buy an extra Switch one. Or if you need lengthx check for a USB-C extender
Edit: This seems to be a promising extension
Found this on amazon, has good reviews. Haven't tried it myself though so don't know how good it actually is. Thinking of pick it up though.
Sure. There are two where you transfer to get the tv output.

I use one of the generic ones off ebay/aliexpress that has two transparent rails in the middle, that light up. Each side holds a pair of joycons or a pro controller, so you can charge 4 joycons or 2 pro controllers, or a mix and match between.
I believe there are some models that can fit joycons to the side of the posts (instead of where the pro controllers sit), which means you can charge 4 joycons and 2 pro controllers at the same time. But my one cant.
But if you only have 4 joycons, if I were you, I would just rotate joycons on charge (on the Switch in the dock), and get a dock for the Pro Controllers. I like the Nyko Charge Blocks, which let you daisy chain multiple blocks together into one solid charging unit. You could do that for two pro controllers, or even got all the joycons as well, if you really want! And you can get them for other consoles too. That's what I would probably do if I had multiple pro controllers (and didn't have far far too many joycons! aha).
Mine is like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32910258763.html

PDP has some kits with some cheap accessories. It includes a case as well, this all costs around 30 bucks (USD)
Nyko has a accessory known as "Clip Grip Power". It's the Joycon grip with a 3000 mAh power bank inside, and a phone stand for the Nintendo Switch Online App. I have one and it's really good, especially if you don't already own a power bank for your switch. This was 25 bucks. Very good price compared to the charging grip by Nintendo.
Split Joycon grips are available for less than 15 bucks, I have a pair (I forget what brand, but most look the same) and they work great. Back to Nyko, they said they are going to make a portable dock that is essentially the same one as the official dock. Here's a amazon link; go to nyko.com for a gamestop release date. https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501733668&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252
As of now, this is supposed to be 50 bucks.
HORI recently made a controller which is cheaper than the pro controller, with a few drawbacks, like it's wired, no gyroscope or NFC reader, and so on. I don't own one; but it's 30 bucks. It seems like a good controller.
Honestly, cases will be on your taste. Some are too big (like that game traveler deluxe case; jeez that's huge.) Some offer too little. You decide. I just stuck with a basic BoTW case with 14 game cards for the future.
I’d get the Nyko travel dock if I were you. It’s small and foldable and takes up way less space than the original dock. I have 2 portable docks, my main dock is in my bedroom, and outside of having the portable docks for travel, I find that the best use I will get from them is just leaving them hooked to the other TVs in my house so that I can dock to whatever TV I’m near without having to unhook the main one from my bedroom and plug it up elsewhere. The price went up a bit, but it’s worth it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B071X7C1B4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1/140-8845738-5281244?ie=UTF8&qid=1510682563&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=nyko+switch+dock&dpPl=1&dpID=41QkDa6z8CL&ref=plSrch
You know these docks are sold at gamestop right? Pretty sure wallmart and target too. No one gives a shit about the review section on those websites and the only place people would see them is amazon.
There are 124 or so reviews 97 of them are verified purchases of those verified purchases there are 53 1 star reviews. What the fuck are you talking about. Learn how to use the review sorter buddy.

Nintendo Joy-Con AA Battery Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XXXK2X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_NS5gAbH6GF6W1
Had a hard time finding them, hope these help man (:
Hey there, /u/Rawkin_Wolf420!
Hey! This kind of questions belong in the Daily Question Thread that is stickied to the frontpage, but let me answer real quick.
What you should get:
---
If you have questions or objections about this removal, please reach out to us in modmail and include a link to the removed post.
Does anyone think the official AA battery pack shown here will provide a good amount of grip to the back of the joycons? I sometimes find the Switch to be a tad uncomfortable for my hands when playing extended amount of handheld mode, and I think an extended or bulky grip would help. I've seen 3D printed grips that look great but I don't have access to those, and the added functionality of longer battery life definitely intrigues me
Buy another set of joycons when you can and try to buy these things when available:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-AA-Battery-Pack/dp/B071XXXK2X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497634550&sr=8-1&keywords=aa+joycon+pack
Not for the extra battery, but for having more grip handle of the Joycon
The AA battery pack add on for the joycons actually improve ergonomics too. The best part is they’re super cheap!
You don’t have to have batteries in them to use them.
Joycon extended Battery Grips
I've heard good things about these, although maybe you are looking to make them wider/longer rather than thicker https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-AA-Battery-Pack/dp/B071XXXK2X/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1503613301&sr=1-1&keywords=Joy+con+battery+pack
There's these battery pack thingies that basically make the whole thing thicker
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-AA-Battery-Pack/dp/B071XXXK2X
If I may make a suggestion, have you tried using the joycons on their own, without the grip? I found the grip uncomfortable as well, so I use the Joycons separately with these battery pack attachments to make them nice and fat and comfortable to hold. Aiming with a single joycon is so snappy and feels great. It's definitely something I think everyone should try at least once. I just use the battery packs to make the joycons more ergonomic, but you can also put one or two batteries in each one to adjust the weight to your liking. And obviously they'll charge the controller, though I've never found a need for that so I just use dead batteries to add some weight.
^(Also this.) ^(Having to change batteries sounds like it sucks but I prefer separate Cons over the grip, and it looks like it'll make them more comfortable.)
Used ones available a little bit cheaper from Amazon Warehouse.
If you have Amazon Prime Fresh, they seem to be matching this price through that buying platform. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071XXXK2X/ref=afx_dp_ingress?ie=UTF8&almBrandId=QW1hem9uIEZyZXNo&fpw=alm
Anyone have any info on this product? I haven’t used it since before the update. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073DYLBXH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ys8QAbW8954JT
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073DYLBXH?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
This one is really great. It will clamp on to the back of your switch so you can charge and play at the same time and doubles the switches battery
Long as it's portable-mode only you have a number of options. It's only when it's docked that it becomes nintendo-only charger for the safety option.
Here's a list of USB-C chargers by /u/queuebitt. What I personally use when in portable is:
Note that both my options are a little more expensive than a normal nintendo charger because I got them for specific reasons. The Ravpower 5 port one charges other stuff at the same time, while the google pixel 2 one, as I'm in the UK and thus, have three prong chargers, can fold itself up small enough to not stick out.
You could just go for an Amazon charger like this one which is pretty cheap (portable only, remember), although I generally don't like chargers where you can't remove the cable. Maybe this one by Anker, 18w PowerPort which is USB-C and has power delivery. Not sure if it comes with a cable. I would probably have got the UK version of this, had the prongs been able to fold itself in. But alas. :D
What are the risk factors for ruining a Switch battery? I just bought this and realized I have no idea what to check to make sure a charger is safe for the console in handheld mode. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Single-Voltage-Charger-Nintendo-support/dp/B073PV6XQ1/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525329934&sr=8-1&keywords=amazon+basics+switch+charger
I use this and this and it fits well enough. I can also fit my charger and joycon straps in the zipper part.
Only thing about that carrying case is mine had a pretty strong odor for a while, but it did go away.
My solution for this would be to just have the right joy con detached & sitting next to me in a joy-con charger in my room. 🤣
For me I have my Pro controller sitting in this PowerA controller + joy-con charger (thank you Target for having it on sale for $18 a while back) next to my bed so I use that to turn on my Switch. When I'm traveling I just put the joy con on a table next to me. (I got the Pro controller last year but now almost always use the SN30 Pro+ instead when docked)
But what all this makes me think is Nintendo could probably make bank on some type of small Switch remote to turn your Switch on & off, adjust volume, etc. Make it cheaper than a pair of joy-cons but handy for anyone using 3rd party controllers 🤔
I just bought this one today on clearance for $21 from Walmart. So far it works good and I'll be able to charge my Pro Controller and a set of Joycons on the charger, and the other set of joycons on the switch. Only complaints so far is that the LED lights are really bright and distracting sitting there so I'll probably put it behind the TV. And it doesn't have a dedicated power plug. You plug it into your Switch dock via USB.
https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Joy-Pro-Controller-Charging-Dock/dp/B075FF6HDN/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1548985610&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=powera+dock&dpPl=1&dpID=31OjWb2YxkL&ref=plSrch
Right here. Can't recommend it enough.
Man, Once you hold that pro controller, the price will melt away. It's worth every penny. I got 2 and I got this so now I don't even need to think twice about charging it.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B075FF6HDN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Your thumb will thank you , I really love to move my camera around while playing Zelda, and I hate using the joystick under the buttons on the joycons for games that require it.
I got this from Amazon for $10 at one point.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FF6HDN
The lights are quite a bit bright on top, but other than that it's fine. Fits the NES controllers without issue
Edit: Looking at the other Power A Joycon docs, I never realized how close the bottom of the joycon comes to the base. Glad I got this one instead of the other I considered at the time (was getting ready for Mario Party)
Here's one that has good reviews and is fairly cheap. https://www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Controller-Nintendo-Charging-Indicator/dp/B0786BNC1L/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543027561&sr=8-1&keywords=switch%2Bstand%2Bkit%2Bcharger&th=1

Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand - Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D12JGBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_GQakDb9NER171
This is the battery I use along with this stand which allows you to charge and play in tabletop mode. I use the USB 3.0 male to male cord that comes with the battery and it’s everything I need for long plane rides. Highly recommend both, the battery is a beast with power delivery. I used the wall adapter that comes with the dock or the charger that comes with the battery if I need to wall charge.
The stand would still need to be plugged into a wall, at that point you may as well just buy the adjustable charging stand
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB
Nintendo makes one
I believe that the Switch Lite has the same groove on the bottom to maintain compatibility with non-docking charging stands like these:
Official Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand
Dual USB PlayStand for Nintendo Switch Lite by HORI
Yeah, there is also the power and volume buttons, and the cartridge slot.
This is stand I'm talking about: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB
Maybe you want this?https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D12JGBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_UIX5BbCBK3MNE
It’s not a dock, so it shouldn’t do anything to the switch itself. You can use a cable like this and you should be able to use This official Nintendo stand to plug that cable in.
Ive been using this one, even works with my Nintendo Switch
Only down side, its not a docking station, i tried using this one

Does anyone know if the Switch Lite fits the Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D12JGBB
The charging stand seems like something you are looking for
I've bought quite a few switch accessories.
I bought the Pro Controller.
Works great. Exactly as advertised.
The Nintendo Joy-Con, Neon Blue & Neon Red - Left and Right Edition.
Also works great.
HORI Officially Licensed Premium Protective Filter for Nintendo Switch .
This is not great. I find the edges of it are always peeling back especially along the bottom. However installation was easy.
Because of the above I've now bought:
Spigen Nintendo Switch Screen Protector Tempered Glass / 2 Pack / 9H Hardness for Nintendo Switch 2017
I have not used it yet so I cannot comment on its effectiveness.
I have also ordered the following:
HORI NSW-003U Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Charge Stand Officially Licensed
It was supposed to be released on April 12th according to Amazon and it still hasn't shipped and Amazon doesn't have any accurate information as to when they will receive stock.
I'm pretty sure that's it so far.
The licensed HORI one, do you mean? I did end up ordering the NES controllers and browsed some of the charger options, but hadn't chosen anything yet. Especially with the NES controllers having a different shape and being longer than Joy-Cons, I bet there are some they won't even fit in. At a glance it looks like the HORI one will probably work, though.
Is there a charging stand that fits 4 joy-cons with PDP Joy-Con Armor Guards attached? Based on what I'm seeing in photos, the HORI stand looks like it has a bit more space than the PowerA stand. I also found a stand with a different design made by GameWill (never heard of it) but the low number of reviews isn't promising.
Is this the right item to purchase then? No picture of course lol https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485874404&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+switch+ac+adapter
For some reason I feel like this one is guaranteed to work and be quality.
As for USB-C to A, we'll have to wait and see.

Damn, it really is a brick...

Pretty retarded price point for an AC adapter though, gotta say.
I've heard that you can charge the Switch out of the dock via a USB-C adapter plug thing. Do I need to use the official Nintendo Switch AC Adapter, or am I safe using just my phone (HTC 10) wall adapter and any USB-C cable?
Planning to finally join you guys officially next week thanks to Target's 20% coupon and this sub and /r/NintendoSwitchDeals have been amazing for making sure I know and save as much money as possible as I hop on board.
sure but like i said i only have the dock itself for trade.

you would need to buy the adapter from a store.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49
Edit: i really want a tetris game but i have no idea what puyo puyo is, would i be lost if i played it?
That would depend on your location, but if you're in the US, Amazon has them for $28.45. You can buy them at pretty much any retailer that would sell Switch accessories.
Find this instock, its around $19 at walmart, and Amazon had it for $16, saw it on Amazon for $15.49 before they sold out.

Nintendo AC Adapter
So this should be enough to plug it in the EU Nintendo Switch and charge it normally without problems?
As I'm in the same situation, we will need to wait to the charger to arrive or wait for a Spanish person to show the charger.
We are hoping for a universal settings like (100 -240V 50-60Hz) as you can see in almost every laptop or phone charger.
if thats the case, it will work with this kind of [adapter]
If not, we will need to buy the official ac adapter
I ordered the official Nintendo Switch AC a few months before ever getting my iPad Pro. It’s always worked great for my Switch, but it works perfectly for my iPad. The charge speeds are awesome and I have no complaints.
I always trust the stuff made by the company
Just buy a second adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49/
But could they not just get the European equivalent of this?
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49
Nintendo Switch AC Adapter https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01N7RUZ49/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_szU3DbMDB04RH
I mean it’s the official one, I think 25$ is not too bad
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49
If you're not confident enough to fix it yourself, I'd say go for a new one (they have them on Amazon for ~$27). I'd also recommend sticking to official Nintendo ones, since a lot of 3rd party accessories (primarily docks) have been bricking Switches (plus 1st party AC Adapters aren't hard to find, again, ~$27 on Amazon).
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49
Do you know if this would work with the dock?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7RUZ49/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
I had imagined this was for plugging directly into the console and the description seems to indicate the same. Some comments seem to indicate this can also be plugged into the dock. I have. $25 credit from a shark week promo that’s only valid on a select number of things, so I might grab a $40 dock if I can get the power adapter for $2 after my credit. I just want to make sure this is compatible with the dock first though and not just for plugging directly into the switch. I’ve heard too many horror stories of bricking consoles with 3rd party docks, but this power adapter and the dock should both be first party.
Wait, did he say you can play while charging with the included AC adapter? Does that mean I don't have to buy one of these?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7RUZ49/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Yes and yes.
Power Adapter
Edit.. I can't read...This second one is USB, but is by Nyko. Dang it! I'll keep looking.
.
Or here... for USB... No date yet though
I keep hearing to "use the charger that came with your switch" but I can't get the exact one, so if I just buy a ac switch adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01N7RUZ49?pf_rd_p=46535598-d2e0-4bc4-8392-182d8c1e93fc&pf_rd_r=E28B4Z3AEMFB950XNBZR this will work just fine?
I think phone chargers will still probably work, just more slowly. Nyko has a Power Kit for the Switch:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NB0G478
Unless they have some kind of magical wattage in that small USB-A plug I imagine it will be similarly speced to most higher end 2.4A phone USB to AC adapters.
Will this work for charging well? I keep hearing stuff about the voltages/amps but I'm not sure. And this says 2.4amps. I know it's Nyko and made for the Switch, but I just want to make sure everything is copacetic.
https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Power-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01NB0G478/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487870772&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+switch+charger
I don't have any USB-C devices.
I just found this one by Nyko as well, though I'm not sure if one is better than the other.
I will be using the dock at home but if I want to play away from the dock I bought this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NB0G478/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I liked that the plug folds in and makes it easy for travel.
I am reluctanct to buy Nyko's yet. The only other one I saw was a generic like this that doesn't do HDMI https://www.amazon.com/Charging-Nintendo-Switch-Station-Cradle/dp/B06XQJJFT5 or this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Switch-Dock-Mount-Replacement-Anti-scratch/dp/B072BHGTST/ But I am not convinced.
I replied with a link to tesco, not sure where you're based so may need to check for international delivery but that was the first result for me. The link has been blocked though as it's against r/nintendoswitch rules?? I don't get how it's different to your original post? Anyway google tesco yellow joycons and see if they will deliver to you
Edit (psst, amazon has them too)

After all the Brick Switch talk, I'm nervous about buying a non-licensed car carger.
I'm trying to buy a switch for a friend, and he does some long distance travelling. so I want to buy the Amazonbasics Car charger.
Does anyone know if car chargers themselves are known to damage the switch?
Hey all, I'm looking to invest into an attached battery for my Switch much like this Nyko Power Pack. I live in Canada, and at the local EB Games there is power pack by Biogenik for $50 that has 10000mAh (I can't seem to find it online to share here). I have worries regarding my Switch bricking though, what do I specifically have to look out for with that issue?
Some charging cases like this one (Nyko Power Pak) have their own charging port on the side of the case.
This one in particular isn't very expensive, it adds some extra battery to your console, and solves your port positioning problem.
nyko has one coming out on aug 1st
What’s the point of having a charging case if you still have a cable sticking out? Especially for that price. For those of you who want a cheaper and less janky charging case for your Switch here are some other charge cases:
Antank 6.500mAh
Nyko 5.000 mAh
Zover 10.000 mAh
Zerolemon 10.000 mAh
The Zover still uses a cable but at least it’s tucked in so it shouldn’t be as annoying. You could also get a battery pack which are a lot cheaper.
Should I buy the newer switch with better battery or just buy this?
I utilize a system from Nyko called Charge Block:
https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Block-Pro-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C19P/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1519236239&sr=8-4
While I don't use it for my Switch stuff(haven't needed to get any yet), I do use it for my DS4 and they are excellent. This is what I recommend with anyone wanting a charging solution. It's great because it's one plug in and then after that it's drop it into the charger and go. No need to get the port just right. Less wear and tear.
It's what I would recommend =) And what I would get myself if I were to get a charger for the Pro Controller or Joy-Cons
Given the reputation Nyko dock have, is this charge dock for the controller safe you think?

Nyko Charge Block Pro for Nintendo Switch
I used the Nyko Charge Block Pro. It creates a dock for the Switch Pro controller using a dongle that uses the USB type C port that is found on the Switch Pro controller. Once you done with gaming you place the Switch Pro Controller on the Charge Block.
I use 4 of these Got them on sale a while back. Super awesome since they connect and you only need one power source.
Hi,
I am going to buy today a Nintendo switch and I am trying to see what accessories I should buy for it.
This is the list I currently have:
Is there anything else that you would recommend or change from what I posted? From my understanding a cover for the dock is also recommended?
Regarding the memory, I am buying two physical games, however I must likely will be buying more digitally in the future (probably).
One of the things that give me a pause when I was searching for accessories is the Mumba case that I want to buy. I wish for the switch to have a good case just in case, but from I see the case won't allow other accessories while the switch is in it.
And is a grip necessary when in handheld mode?
Thanks for the help.
If Nyko's scratched the screen, it's because you're doing it wrong. Off brand docks aren't limited to the same form factor as the official one, including options which make it more difficult to scratch anything, thus most are like that one there.
Correction, upon looking into it, it's apparently Nyko making the stand: amazon link incoming
Question, the one pictured there seems different from one on the Nyko pictures on the Amazon pre-order link:
https://smile.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1497884530&sr=1-6&keywords=nintendo+switch+dock
Any idea why?
>Split screen: Split screen is going to be the tournament standard at grass roots events, because we simply can't afford extra monitors nor the space for double screen set ups.
Space I can understand, but how are TVs more expensive than Switches? Each setup can have 2 $150(or less) TVs for the same price of a Switch. You would need the extra TVs for hosting any kind of Splatoon 2 tournament down the line, as well. Now that I think about that, extra TVs are essential for most tournaments that aren't fighting games.
> Having an open bracket with everyone sorting themselves out leads to a very disorganized tournament. Having a set amount of tournament set ups (usually numbered) give me more control of the event as a TO
An open bracket doesn't mean that suddenly everyone is running around willy nilly doing their own thing. I just meant for the brackets for non-seeded players. If it's a small tourney, the entire thing is open bracket. Also, you can still have numbered setups of TVs and docks. I don't know how a BYO set up would lose this.
Fairness is debatable, but New Players is a valid point, mostly from the perspective of entrants that share a single Switch with their siblings.
Stolen property is a risk for every event ever. It's a valid point only if you see it as your responsibility to stop it from happening, which you do. So fair enough.
You lost me on the streaming point because there should only be one or two spectator systems set as streaming systems even if we use the BYO system. The spectator machines never have to be changed out, they need only join the proper Arena for the match they wish to stream.
Docks is a somewhat valid point, but may be alleviated later this year when Nyko's dock releases, depending on its quality.
Amazon to the rescue!
That Dock is really portable - almost looks to small for my taste (too light), just like a small windblow might be able to push over the switch. I would feel a lot more comfortable with it laying flat.
I'll still hope HORI will make a nice high-quality portable dock.
At the moment, no. However, Nyko is going to sell a smaller third party dock for $45 in the future! Can't find a release date on their site, but Amazon lists it at $50 on October 3, 2017
$49.99, so it should be about $65 here, so yes we do lose out slightly.
> Some people like Nyko are engineering their own docks or dongles, but these will only work to charge the Switch or possibly provide ethernet unfortunately.
This is not true. The Nyko dock, unless they are lying to us, will provide TV display out. Directly from the Amazon product description: "Enable TV mode on the Nintendo Switch. Includes an HDMI cable for connecting to any TV on the go."
I understand people are used to third party adapters but they are more commonly problematic and this is coming from someone who has been watching it happen for 20 years working with electronics. Look at the reviews for Nyko on Amazon those issues right at the top are common for cellphones. Many cellphones are not compliant either nor do most third party adapters use "fast" chargers or proper protection to save money and make a cheaper less safe product. Either way its the consumers choice to use an unlicensed product and not the manufactures fault if said product does harm.

It isn't as small as I would like, but someone could definitely make a smaller one if they removed some of the USB ports or arranged them so they aren't all on the same side of the adapter.

Coming soon. I'll be getting one.
If you read the amazon reviews there are a bunch of one star reviews from users having to send their Switches to Nintendo for repairs. Some consoles got bricked (freezes on the switch's splash screen) and some had their USBC ports fried. One user had used it for 2 weeks before it damaged the console.
Maybe these for when you're not playing in handheld mode: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Joy-AA-Battery-Pack-switch/dp/B071XXXK2X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511999295&sr=8-1&keywords=joycon+battery+pack
I wish I knew what brand I have but there’s no logo or anything written on them. Are you looking specifically for a rubberized cover? There’s those battery extenders on sale right now that add some extra grip. Nintendo Joy-Con AA Battery Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XXXK2X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6o3iDbT2563VC
I recommend something like this then.

I think they're expecting people to buy and use the new battery grips that launch with the game.
I think the product is silly and bad (using disposable batteries to charge a joy-con), but a comfort grip for separated joy-cons would be nice.
Edit: joy-con battery pack
you dont need to use the grip or a pro controller.
i use the joy cons split and much prefer it to the pro controller.
i do use these to add size though.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Joy-AA-Battery-Pack-switch/dp/B071XXXK2X
I find the "Joycon in each hand" thing to be super uncomfortable -- they don't have enough volume, maybe my hands are too big. They're fine attached to the switch, and i'm really glad that it came with the grip.
Maybe something like this will make them more comfortable -- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XXXK2X
ah okay, i misunderstood. have you thought about these? https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-AA-Battery-Pack/dp/B071XXXK2X
i've also seen people cut up a combined grip and attach them to the individual joy-cons to make a better grip that way.
I use the included wrist strap for a slightly better fit. You could also use the included grip for just the one JoyCon and still use them split. But if I were to buy an accessory, it would be a battery pack for both a heftier controller and the convenience of never having to charge the things attached to the Switch itself (cheap knockoffs also available).
Although the button layout on the Pro is a lot better, so it's great for that (and if there's ever any couch multiplayer).
Is this the one you're referring to? That looks pretty slick, especially with the ability to connect multiple pieces together.
It's not out yet so it's largely untested by the public, but I think Nyko's dedicated Switch charger is worth mentioning for the people like me looking for a small charger that will charge while playing. It's out August 1st.
Not even this power cord from Nyko? I thought the 3rd party docks were the issue, not necessarily the power cords.
I ended up getting the Amazon basicss one for bskf the price . Think it's fine?
AmazonBasics Single Voltage AC Charger for Nintendo Switch (does not support TV mode), Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PV6XQ1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_HdMDAb7GMCX43
well, since the entire system is so compact (you want to carry the dock too?)

you can get a "pick and pull" camera case.. box full of foam, that's precut.. pull the parts where your stuff goes and you don't have to worry about bulkiness of the hard case.

smaller and less expensive than this one.. but you get the idea.

The Power A joy-con and pro controller one works with them.
https://smile.amazon.com/PowerA-Joy-Pro-Controller-Charging-Dock/dp/B075FF6HDN/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=powera+charging+switch&qid=1566773303&s=gateway&sr=8-1
Their joy-con only one does not.
Interested in getting a controller charger. The wiki lists the power a stand for charging two joy-cons, but I was wondering if anyone has experience with this model that charges a single joycon pair and a pro controller? Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FF6HDN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_u-P.BbDV9BVKY
In any case, I'd like to know what the best charging setup is for a primarily docked switch with 2 pro controllers and 2 pairs of joy-cons.
Comments in the reviews for this one say they work fine:
https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Joy-Pro-Controller-Charging-Dock/dp/B075FF6HDN/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1
You can see from the picture that it should work, as it has no "base" that would get in the way. Worst case: you could elevate it on top of some small notepads or something. It's officially licensed, which is good. Unfortunately, reviews are lackluster for a PowerA licensed product--sounds like there may some chance of a DOA unit (bad qc), and if you do use the pro controller, I guess you have to plug in a dongle for it.

I'm sure it's fine, or you'd see plenty of complaints in the reviews. I don't think the controllers have the same sensitivity to power issue as the Switch does in docked mode. I've charged my Pro Controller from all sorts of sources and never had an issue (although I always make sure my cables and adaptors are Benson Leung approved).
I can personally vouch for the PowerA charger of this type, as I gave one to a friend for Christmas and he hasn't had any problems. It costs the same, but it doesn't have those sick fiberoptic LED bars! And it looks like the FastSnail is less bulky. I think you should spend the extra two bucks for the red one.
I bought this about a year ago, and it works great. You can charge 4 joy con, or 2 joy con and a pro controller at once. Unfortunately you cannot charge 2 pro controllers at the same time. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786BNC1L?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I tried looking up if anyone has used this charger https://smile.amazon.com/FastSnail-Controller-Nintendo-Charging-Indicator/dp/B0786BNC1L/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1541190827&sr=1-2&keywords=FastSnail+Controller+Charger it to see if it was good or not as i can charge my joycons and a switch tablet if I have a friend over with their own switch. I was however concerned as i heard using third party products for charging can lead to systems being bricked and wanted to be sure it wasn't the case for this one as well as if it was good or not to use.
I'm looking at this one: https://www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Controller-Nintendo-Charging-Indicator/dp/B0786BNC1L
It's not an official one but it's the best option for my scenario and I have an official usb cable as well. Still worried though about what could happen
Couple of controller questions. The official Nintendo switch Pro Controller is $10 off right now, but I have heard that the d-pad is crap. Is that true? Secondly is it safe to use the little USB charging stands for the joycons? I would like to get a second set of joycons, but I don't want to have to deal with them always being dead.
This kind of thing:
FastSnail Controller Charger for Nintendo Switch, Pro Controller and Joy-con Charging Dock Stand Station for Nintendo Switch with Charging Indicator https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786BNC1L
I have this, and strongly recommend it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0786BNC1L/
These are pretty close (because it’s detachable from the grips)
Though the portability of these is nice
Or the battery packs are decent
Heya 👋. I’ve been lurking here for a while and just completed my first week out of a single bag! Woot! I had a really solid two bag system dialed in, but I scaled back and swapped in some more versatile clothing.
My Switch was something I never thought twice about packing before, but I never used it apart from plane rides. For this trip, I grabbed one of these USB C adapters for the JoyCon then loaded up my computer with an emulator and a bunch of NES, SNES, and N64 games. It was solid! I played all my favorite old console games and it was such a great time killer for the plane ride and the JoyCon takes next to no space.
Wanted to share but mainly say thanks for all the info and inspiration. Just did a week in Bangkok, currently in Chiang Mai, then heading to the Philippines next.
Looks like it might work with the official Switch charging dock/stand:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D12JGBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_B3LjDbWCATSDS
Yep. This thing!
Also on Amazon.
I don't have the charging stand in the OP but I have the HORI Multiport USB Playstand (also NOT a mini dock) : $27.99. If you don't mind something bigger, it might be worth it for the extra USB ports, more stable stand, and multiple viewing angles.
The under hyped but essential for travel official charge while you play stand, only $20
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB
What are you trying to do exactly? Play in table top mode while charging? This should work for that:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB
Has anyone tried to use wired controllers with the official adjustable charging stand?. Read that it doesn't support video output if connected to the dock via an extension, and I'd like to play with a Gamecube controller in portable mode when Smash releases.
You could grab one of these
I don't have the case, but I did buy the Nintendo stand they released recently and am a big fan of it if you don't want a case.
edit: Link to the stand I was talking about: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB/
Not quite the same thing, and no springs involved here, but if you're only looking to charge then there is the official charging stand.
I use this stand all the time. Just plug a cable in and the switch charges. It also makes the switch really stable
It’s $25 Canadian
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07D12JGBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DRnzCbV41KT4E
I got this battery case. It works really well and has adjustable kickstands. $50 Canadian
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07JBX74S9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HXnzCbM92HKFV
This is a really good carrying case. It’s small and compact. Can hold the switch in it’s battery case. It also holds a lot of games. It’s black with grey Mario print on it. So if you don’t like Mario that might be a deal breaker. But it’s pretty good. It’s at Best Buy for $20 Canadian
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/pdp-nintendo-switch-premium-mario-edition-console-case-black/12869414.aspx
I have this one and it works great for exactly this sort of thing. And charging in tabletop too of course. Plugged into a portable charger on a plane is awesome.
Keep your toenails longer and use those instead.
Okay, okay, honestly the best thing to do would probably be some light surgery on your Switch. Pop the kickstand off by opening it beyond its stopping point (it will be fine, it pops right back into place pretty easily). If you look on the bottom of the kickstand where it hooks into the bottom of the Switch, you'll see the only thing holding it closed are a couple of plastic "teeth" or nubs. You could file those down just enough to make it easy to pop open without having it fall open on its own, maybe? Replacement kickstands are $4, so even if you fuck up it wouldn't cost much to replace.
The other option is the $20 charging stand which is much, much better than the basic kickstand because it actually lets you charge it while its standing, and it's adjustable. It's also $20 and its another attachment to carry around with you, though.
<$20. I think mine was like $12.
Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand - Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D12JGBB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Bn-JDbVTSN8PG

It is Nintendo branded but it's made by Hori.
I wouldn't. You can get a simple table-top charging stand. There's an official one from Nintendo:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB/
But you could go for the third-party dock and always be wondering if it'll fry your Switch.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Adjustable-Charging-Stand/dp/B07D12JGBB
There is also this with a usb c to usb a adapter.
Try this.
Basically that charging port at the bottom can be anything you want it to be. So you can use a Nintendo Switch charging stand (Like this https://amzn.to/2SbyjE6) so you can use the port on the bottom on a table then get a simple usb c hub (like this https://amzn.to/2DUzDba) to connect the adapter. Unless you are a competitive player or grew up with the gamecube controller and have all your muscle memory built on that one controller just use the joycons or pro controller if you are going to be playing the game casually.
I've been on international and USA domestic flight with my switch in carryon and have never had any trouble. It's basically a tablet + controllers, so you might need to take it out separately in the bin for security if thats a requirement where you are.
If the international flight has outlets between the seats, you should be golden! Otherwise the usb charging port that most airlines have won't keep it fully charged the entire time, but will still prolong the battery life a good bit from my experience (especially if you start with full charge and keep it plugged in). You can also invest in a power bank that has power delivery(?) feature.

I would really recommend this charging stand thing also: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D12JGBB/
This way you can play table top mode on the airplane tray thing and charge at the same time.

Happy travels!

Works great, compact, and can charge while in tabletop mode.
I am stalking Amazon for the Pokeball Plus charging stand to come back in stock.
I don't think it is, I believe my wife used it. I'll see if I can check. The stand was originally $20 and was on amazon here
Controller Charger Dock for Nintendo Switch, 6 in 1 Charging Station for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controllers and Pro Controllers Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HCHCP9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Rd6DCbZEC84HX
If you're still looking I think people mention it fits
A dock at $60?! Pfft! Try $90 MSRP!
I agree with you one million percent, though. There is NO way the dock is worth nearly $100 after tax.
I have a pre-order in for the Nyko Portable Docking Kit, which I was luckily able to get for $44.99, before the price went up to $49.99.
Honestly, I still think even $45 is high, but I'm much more willing to pay $45 than $90.
If we were dealing with literally any other company, I'd agree that the JoyCons may go down in price as technology improves, demand decreases and manufacturing costs decrease. Since we are talking about Nintendo, though, I really doubt they'll drop the prices... ever.
Just look at how much a new Wii U Pro controller still costs today ($50+), for a "dead" console. I can get a new DualShock 4 on Amazon for less than that every day, often around $39.99.
I had been thinking about this before it went temporarily out of stock. The reviews look good? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PV6XQ1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_zadZAbJ2YBN1C
How do I know if this charger is safe to use after 5.0? AmazonBasics Single Voltage AC Charger for Nintendo Switch (does not support TV mode), Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PV6XQ1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LAXVAbVZ0MRHY
I mean it's possible that only bad experiences have been posted on their website for the item. However assuming [This] (https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-USB-Type-C-Connection-Power-Kit/dp/B01NB0G478/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502928744&sr=8-1&keywords=nyko+ac+charger+switch) is the same one, amazon has it poorly rated also. Not sure I'd want it to even touch my switch.
Is this https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-AC-Adapter/dp/B01N7RUZ49 the same as what comes with the dock?
I read somewhere you shouldn't use the charger that came with the switch to charge the switch directly, but this says you can use it to charge in portable mode.
