By "official", do you mean it has to be manufactured by Nintendo, or will you accept one that's actually licensed by them?

Because this thing is officially licensed, Mario branding and all...

u/RedrickSSBU · 10 pointsr/smashbros

Those aren't Gamecube controllers, they're Wii controllers that look like GC controllers. To actually use one you'd have to plug it into a Wiimote. It'll work on Smash 4, but I'm not sure they'll be supported in Ultimate.

As an alternative, you could try looking for one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Battle-Zelda-GameCube-Controller/dp/B01AD478L6/

https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wired-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXJV9NM/

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pikachu-Wired-Fight-500-100/dp/B07GXB9GW9/

They're new Switch controllers that are GC styled. You can connect them directly to your Switch using the USB ports, no need for an adapter. They probably aren't as cheap as the controllers you found, but they're cheaper than the official GC controllers and they'll definitely work.

If you want a recommendation, get the Hori. That's the only one I've got, and although it's stiffer than the original GCs it's a good product.

Get the Hori D-Pad left joy-con knock off. One of these. It doesn't have a battery and doesn't really draw any, so it'll work well for your handheld-only type deal. I got mine at the local GameStop like an idiot, though... for $15 it's worth it.

Edit: Pokemon or LoZ either are $20.

u/siamesedads · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

How do people feel about the pro controllers vs. the PDP ones? Do they feel and operate much better? I'm trying to decide between 'em at the moment.

Big oof on using that original c-stick and d-pad. I like the direction 3rd party manufacturers took the controller with the usb/switch compatible ones like this.

i looked it up, and it seems that the silver one on amazon is also down to $39.99. are they the same one?

u/Archanj0 · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Yes. It's the 8BitDo SF30 Pro Gamepad (old version, before the Big N threatened to sue them). The new generation has been slightly altered to be less of a look-alike. You mabe be able to fine one of the original ones out there with some luck.

I got this one from this [link on Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Bluetooth-Controller-Raspberry-Compatible/dp/B0781LDL1J)

If you're interested in a Playstation layout controller, I recently started using the 8BitDo SF30 Pro (or SN30 Pro) for emulation on the Android. It works PERFECTLY with Rules of Survival. I also opted for the phone clip which has come in SUPER handy.

Here are the official ones. if you want a lot cheaper, you can go for these fake ones, they have all functionality except amiibo support but some other things may be off with certain ones. I suggest checking out Wulffdens video on fake pro controllers for more details

Official Switch Pro Controller $62

PowerA GameCube Pro Controller $50

PowerA Wireless Enhanced Controller $35

8bitdo SN30 Pro+ $50

Outside of Official devices, powerA, Hori, PDP, or 8bitdo; I wouldn't recommend any of the no-name brands you'll find on Amazon, as they're all hawking the same Chinese knock off products.

u/largepanda · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

As someone who has a Pro Controller, and was reluctant to buy one, I have two very strong opinions on it:

  1. The Pro Controller is the most overrated accessory ever, the Joycons in the grip are perfectly fine.
  2. The Pro Controller is an immensely nice controller and basically a mandatory accessory, even to me, who drastically prefers a PlayStation-shaped controller and doesn't like the Xbox stick layout.

    ----
If you already have an existing controller you're happy with (Xbone, PS3, PS4, Wii U Pro Controller, others), check out the 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter, which will allow you to use it with the Switch.

There's several third-party options for Switch controllers, including:

u/avadakenobi · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I've got a Pro Controller, one of the new PowerA wireless controllers and one of the wired PDP controllers.

The wired PDP controller isn't that great. The triggers and shoulder buttons are horrible. It's a $25 controller and it shows. It's a little too light for me, as well. It just doesn't feel good in the hand.

If I were you, I'd get the wireless PowerA controller. I found mine at Wal-Mart for $45 and it's definitely worth it. There's no rumble or NFC support, but there's motion controls and extra buttons on the back that you can map to whatever button you want. The triggers and shoulder buttons are much closer to the Pro Controller and it has a plus of using removable batteries. I just bought some rechargeable AA batteries that I can swap out and recharge when I want.

u/MiOdd · 3 pointsr/RetroPie

I just helped a friend of mine build his own, it's very easy to put together yourself. Here's our component list, that you may find helpful.

Raspberry Pi 3B

Flirc Raspberry Pi Case Gen2

8Bitdo Sn30 Bluetooth Gamepad

SanDisk 32GB Micro SD

AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable

NorthPada RPi3 Power Supply

Of course, there are many different cases and controllers you can use, you don't need to buy these specifically but it'll give you a good idea what you need to get started and what it will cost you when all is said and done. This is also assuming you just want something to play on TV. If you are a building a handheld, that's a different beast.

You can try:

  1. Updating controllers (Free)

  2. Using [contact cleaners] (https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-Specialist-Electrical-Contact-STRAW-SPRAYS/dp/B00CMT9TFY/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1518364971&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=contact+cleaner) under the rubber cap on the underside of the stick. (Cheap, or free if you have this)

  3. Replacing the stick module yourself (Cheap-ish)
  4. Buying a new right joy-con (relatively expensive, [37] (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Joy-R-Gray-switch/dp/B01MR5R96K)-50$)

  5. Contacting nintendo (Depends, most times free but has the risk of losing saves, but not 100% if this happens nowadays)

I'm in the same situation as you. This is my first Smash game and when Smash released I bought a Pro Controller. I figured it was better to buy a Pro Controller so I could also use it for other games, as the GC controller doesn't have motion controls or rumble.

Three months ago, I got a PDP gamepad controller Zelda themed and I really enjoy the notches and, once used to the buttons, is amazing. The build of this controller is really good (it took a heavy hit recently and it is in top form), and it doesn't have the bumpers of a GC controller (I have tried them a bit from friends and it is plain weird for me) but regular bumpers, with the ZL that the GC lacks.

Lately I've been going back and forth between the two. I got to say, I enjoy them both for different reasons. The PDP controller has the notches, that special button layout, and doesn't sacrifice the bumpers. The Pro Controller has rumble (yeah, I like it), build quality, and it's wireless, which I prefer over wired. I'm also experimenting with a "Zachray" configuration (specials to X to do the A + Special input easier) and B to grab. I feel the GC layout has less flexibility in customization.

Right now I prefer to play with the PDP gamepad controller, but it could change in the future.

These are actually really nice btw. They’re usb so you won’t need an adapter to plug into the switch. They also function as a pro controller and have all the necessary buttons to play other switch games. They also come in different colors and a wireless version ($50) that require two AA batteries.

EDIT: you can also find these (and the wireless version) at Target if you don’t mind driving to the store or don’t want to wait for shipping

u/psychadelirious · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you want to stick to wired you may like this Gamecube style option (it's USB, too. So you could get a hub to plug them into).

If it is, you got caught off guard, this is the Red Left/Blue Right, the Neon joycons that came with the base console is Blue Left/Red Right.

People that are looking specifically for this colour combination can't get it any other way.

The D-pad on the PDP Wired Pro Controller is the best I've tried so far. Their newest model has a headphone jack too. The only issue I have with the controller is that the handles feel short compared to Nintendo's Pro Controller. My pinky fingers are hanging off the end.

If the themes one is a Nintendo brand controller, just the graphical design.

(Like this or this)

If it's not Nintendo branded, then any number of things, weight, construction, nfc, hd rumble, wired, d-pad anything might be different.

Unfortunately some of these also have the red corner trade dress on the box, but should always have a third party brand logo somewhere on the front and say something like "licensed from Nintendo" somewhere.

I think you have the regular SN30, which is the most basic version of 8BitDo's SNES Controller replicas. The Pro has more features, but ironically that makes it less authentic for retro gaming, at least to me.

u/Lorben · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Probably not. Depends on if the D-Pad is registered as the D-Pad or the left analog. If it's registering as the D-Pad it won't work for Smash because you won't be able to move. The NES controller's D-Pad registers as a D-Pad, and a SNES Classic controller hooked up to an adapter registers the D-Pad as a D-Pad so it's very likely that the SNES controllers coming out will do the same.

The 8bitdo SN30 (not pro, not plus) has a D-Pad that's bound to the left analog stick.

vita wins on portability easily, but switch is more comfortable for me in long play time since i have huge hands. I have a powerbank that can charge both devices so battery power hasnt been an issue for me.

I have this one and it works on Steam big picture mode along with the Nintendo pro controller. The developer says it won’t work on PC though. I’ve tested it on steam and it works perfectly but can’t say for any other game client.

u/ApathyToTheMax · 1 pointr/CrazyHand

What do you think about one of these? I just picked one up, there's a wired/wireless version and so far I love it.

I can short hop just fine with the L button, sticks feel great (I just discovered they even click if you ever need that for other games or something) and just overall feels good-quality.

u/iceynyo · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Only once you can find them sitting on shelves. If they're already selling out there's no reason to try and increase sales by offering a discount.

Which is why you can already find some discounts on the gray joycons... they're not as popular.

u/Gaerrott · 1 pointr/smashbros

I’m pretty sure you can get those sent to the US. PDP also released a couple last Friday so I ordered one here. I got the pikachu one and it should be here today, most reviews I’ve seen on YouTube don’t have any faults with them.

Edit: the price on amazon seems to have ratcheted up to around $37. I preordered when they were $25 so you might find them cheaper elsewhere.

I never use the joycons unless I have to use them for Mario Party or if I'm playing Pokemon LGE in docked mode. I would recommend getting a couple of pro controllers, but if that's too much money you can get a couple of wired controllers for about half the price. I would recommend either one of these:

It's also got two large "paddle" buttons on the back of the grips that you can remap to any other button (no macros). So you can put hard drop on one of those, if you don't like using up on the d-pad, for example.

•Doesn't wake the console up

Don't know if it's what you wanted but includes most of your requirements!!

u/rapemybones · 1 pointr/CrazyHand

Don't see anything from Power A stating that it does, and searching the q&a the Amazon page has about 5 answers saying it is not compatible with Wiiu. So I'm gonna say no. Likely because of the Switch-specific buttons on the controller.

When you make a Japanese account it gives you the option to use a non Japanese address
https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07HC2F97Q/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_c_WHNPDbY49WJZ6
They also have the controller adapters

u/Typicalsufferingguy · 1 pointr/SSBM

This link could solve your problem. Its japanese amazon. They're rereleasing gamecube controllers for 20 USD. You'll need to make a new account even if you already have one. One controller per account, ships out in January

u/ShnMcPrtln · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I think it's possible to buy single joycons from Nintendo. https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Joy-Right-Gray-Switch/dp/B01MR5R96K

u/Dougboard · 1 pointr/SmashBrosUltimate

The Smash Ultimate gamecube controllers are out of print in the US, so supply on them was very limited. If you find any that are new, they're going to have jacked-up prices.

If you don't mind waiting a until January, Nintendo is doing a reprint on the controllers in Japan only, and you can order them off Amazon Japan. They'll ship to the US, and it comes out to about $28 after shipping, which is very reasonable for a brand new controller.

There are now third party “GameCube” style joy-con controllers made by a company called Sades that can wake up the Switch with the home button and have nfc support for amiibo.

From what I found online, Nintendo seems to have not restocked them much since it came out, and have only given a few of them per store. The best I could find are two on amazon for around $120, and one of them is an import from Japan. Hopefully they restock them soon do you could get one!

u/imnotgoats · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

You can buy the red/blue neon alts, the green/pink neon alts, grey, neon yellow and Mario red (Japanese import only).

The original variation neons are the only ones you can't get outside a bundle or console purchase (unless you buy them individually, also an option for some).

Some of these are less obtainable in different locations, but they exist.

Pasting a link to the controllers for reference (you should add them into the post): https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Faceoff-Wired-Controller-Faceplates/dp/B073X3GHHX)

Looking at the designs, I'd much prefer that L Luigi design. From the way you're describing the controllers, they're kinda like a low priority controller you keep for Player II, so Luigi is the perfect plate for those kinds of controllers. Also, I like the green.

u/p3ek · 1 pointr/simracing

hi thinking of getting this
https://www.amazon.com/Hori-Nintendo-Switch-Mario-Racing-Wheel/dp/B07YMFYRVQ?th=1
so I can play WRC on switch like you recommend.
Do you know if switch supports triples?

There's also the Kinggear and the beboncool, but I know nothing about their quality.

Good catch with 2.4g vs. bluetooth, I always forget about that.

The biggest differences between each 8bitdo line are aesthetics and features such as rumble, analog sticks, motion controls, triggers and turbo:

  • The SN30 is a base model that only features a d-pad, face buttons and a set of L and R buttons on the top. It resembles a SNES/SFC controller and works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

  • The SN30 Pro takes the SN30 form factor and adds rumble, analog sticks, motion controls, turbo, and a second set of triggers. Still works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

  • The NS30 Pro 2 has all the features of a SN30 Pro controller with a slightly different layout. The second set of shoulder buttons are set inside the first set.

  • The SN30 Pro+ is a SN30 Pro controller in a form factor that adds grips similar to a Sony Dualshock controller. Still works over Bluetooth and USB-C.

    Features

It all boils down to what features you want. The SN30 is a great replacement for a stock SNES/NES controller and is about $10 US cheaper than the other models. The Pro and Pro+ will also work great with the NES Classic, and will allow you to play PS1 games that require analog sticks.

    Aesthetics

8bitdo has a number of color variants for each of their lines that have no effect on how the controllers operate. The SN30 GP line are a set of SN30 controllers stylized like the original Game Boy Pocket line. There's no functional difference between a SN30 and SN30 GP controller other than how it looks. The SN30 Pro line has two options: One that matches the original Game Boy and another that looks like a U.S. Super Nintendo controller.

And there's the newer NS30 Pro2, which has an NES option that should match well with the NES Classic.

    ---

For me, I like the SN30 Pro because it's a good compromise with the SNES controller form factor combined with modern features. The triggers aren't great for modern games, so I only really use my SN30 Pro for emulators and retro-style games.

I already own a set of Dualshock 4 controllers, so I didn't see a need to have grips on my 8bitdo controller. But if I were using an 8bitdo controller as my daily controller, I would strongly consider getting the SN30 Pro+ for the added grips.

8bitdo doesn't do a great job at describing the differences between each of their controller lines. Some sort of feature grid would be extremely helpful.

The Amazon US page is still there -- it's just sold out at the moment.

and in Tetris 99, 2 player only let's me move the aim things and not the actual blocks.

Just the basic wired controllers by PDP (other brands available). Controllers don’t have rumble or motion features but a lot cheaper.
Like this one

u/BakaDoug · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I have the Faceoff Controller by PDP and it’s great! The controller design is exactly like the Switch Pro Controller and while it’s lighter, wired and lacking gyro/rumble/NFC, it’s built sturdy, very comfortable, and looks very cool.

u/SenorKnowNada · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Can the PDP nintendo switch faceoff wired pro controller connect to the pc?

I bought this one and been using it for a month to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. It's been really good so far. Definitely recommend it.

u/Drjay425 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I picked up a SNES style 8Bitdo SN30 Pro controller and I will no longer play any games based aroudn the DPAD without it. Its so damn perfect for MM2. (tried out Hollow Knight last night with it too and its great) For everything else I use a pro control.

Pros
- Wireless
- Easily synched
- Gyro support
- NFC support (for Amiibo)
- Basic rumble support

Cons
- The face buttons could be a bit higher. They're nearly flushed
- No IR camera
- Purple L and R buttons would have been nice
- ZL and ZR practically require your fingers to be at the edge for the press to register.

Overall, this is a very servicable set of Joycons and may end up being my favorite controller of all time. Hopefully there will be a version 2 of this controller with raised face buttons and IR support.
