Get a tempered glass screen protector. The Switch screen wont shatter if dropped, but the flip side is it scratches and scuffs easily. These are pretty good.

u/LeavesCat · 316 pointsr/nintendo

Look up the HORI Nintendo Switch pad; it's an official wired switch controller with no motion sensors included. It's basically the Pro Controller, except since it doesn't have the gyros and the rumble and the Amiibo sensor, it's only 25 USD instead of 80.

Since none of the special features of the more expensive controllers will ever be useful to you, and are in fact more likely to be a hindrance, wouldn't the best solution to this and future problems be to get a controller that doesn't fight you?

I understand if $25 is too much, but if you're committed to having a Switch and being able to play the games you want to play, one good controller will make your playing experience so much better.

In fact, with the right setup, you can hook up an Xbox controller to the Switch and have it work. I'd look up a guide if that interests you at all.

u/Cato_Keto_Cigars · 118 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

GET A Tempered Glass Screen Protector NOW. The screen is plastic and can scratch when taking it in and out of the dock

I can testify on those controller grips, but the model I got had larger trigger paddles. There are a lot of manufactuers of the design - seems some have better triggers than others. Here is the AmazonBasic branded one.

it is also worth pointing out that there is a "Pro" controller that is shaped like a normal console controller.

More general wisdom; If you buy a 2nd dock - be on the lookout for Chinese knockoffs. The Switch does NOT use a normal USB C plug - the voltage is different. (even though it is shaped identically). Using the wrong plug can fry the system (much like first gen USB-C phones. Do research first.

There are cases for the switch to protect when traveling - but not useful when dropped. Examples

There are Grip cases - but they will not protect from a fall. And the joycons will be in the case. Example Which may affect any travel case - if you use one. The Amazon page claims drop protection, but I'm doubtful on any of these. And the Joycons "popping" off when dropped may be a safety feature intended by Nintendo. (much like the console sitting vertical when docked for heat distribution)

There is no drop proof case. IMO.

Also, keep an eye on Bionic, they make some cool joy con chargers. Easiest way is to just leave it connected to the switch charging.

The pro controller will charge via micro USB like a Xbox controller.

u/-entertainment720- · 113 pointsr/nintendo

Get one of these bad boys. The dock is really only a small circuit board and not very hard to take apart at all.

u/theweebaby · 77 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This means Amazon is selling 2 Wii U version and none for the Switch. This has to be some screw up that is just getting deeper.

Edit: /u/mygawd pointed out that the title has been fixed back to Switch and as I just checked the platform now correctly says Switch. Looks like we are good!

u/UniquePebble · 68 pointsr/techsupportmacgyver

It’s being choked by the switch dock more than the dbrand skin. I gutted my dock and put it in a shell I bought from Amazon. Looks better, easier to travel with, and has an open back to the vents.

Here’s the Lunk

Your dock has 3 or 4 different types of screws, all Phillips though. You’ll have to pretty much tear the whole thing apart.

u/cowsareverywhere · 66 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Direct Link to the 1.13 Firmware update

I just played some Rocket League to test it out and it seems to work flawlessly with no perceptible lag and rumble support. The buttons correspond to the button position on the Pro Controller, so the transition was seamless.

Only the newer Xbox One controllers are supported since the earlier ones didn't have Bluetooth. I am running on the latest firmware(5.0) for the Switch as well.

The adapter is available from Amazon for $20.

Edit - This usually gets asked everytime so let me preemptively say No,Third Party Controllers do not support Amiibo.

u/all_around_asshole · 57 pointsr/gaming

You must not know about the internet. Its a magical place where you can order products, and have them shipped to your door. Sometimes cheaper than the stores too! try it sometime

u/AlphaNERDSolid · 55 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The article does not go into detail. Seems like all he did is plugging it into an adapter. The adapter he used is the Mayflash MagicNS adapter. 8bitdo also offers such an adapter, however that is strictly wireless.

It's cool to see that he used an adapter for the adaptive controller on the Switch but at the end of the day it's all that he did. Nothing new in this regard.

u/TopNerdJR · 50 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hi Dad, Dad, Dad, and Dad. Dad here also. The screen protector I agree is a must have. Mario party and Mario cart are a must for Family fun. I completely agree. BOTW could be to complicated for him but then again, it could not be. Its Fun and I think he could grow into it.

Here is the case I use. It fits everything really well and I am super happy with it:

I use this when I travel on The plane also. It fits perfectly over the handle of my suitcase.

Anyone who wants a good kickstand should 100% check out the HORI Playstand. I spent 8 hours playing on the built-in stand one day and at the end I fucking hated it, but my buddy recommended this to me and oh my god it's so much better. It sounds dumb but this is one of the best purchases I've made in months. It pairs very well with those wooden TV tray/stands everyone seems to own except me.

u/Miketendo88 · 46 pointsr/nintendo

screen protector Love this screen protector. Doesn't noticeable affect the screen brightness. I honestly just wipe the screen with a microfiber cloth (or my tshirt) haven't had any issues.

u/ribcabin · 44 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

uhh there's a first-party solution for that. it's $20, has a charge port and the angle can be adjusted. I use mine for all tabletop use

u/deltasalmon · 43 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Thank you for this! I wish someone would do the same for the Elite Backpack

u/Forstride · 40 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

amFilm has great tempered glass screen protectors that you can get pretty cheap on Amazon:

You'll definitely want to apply it yourself though, as it's very tricky (I've even screwed it up a few times myself).

u/pmo2408 · 38 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I was Xbox forever, started a new job on the road and decided to go for the switch as well for portability. Good choice.

Must Buys Accessories:

Screen protector - there is a 2 pack on amazon:

amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack)

SD card (if going digital with games) - maybe go 256gb, amazon has a sale on them, you only need U1 speeds for the switch:

SanDisk 256GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - 100MB/s, C10, U1, Full HD, A1, Micro SD Card - SDSQUAR-256G-GN6MA

Carrying cases - I have two, one for the whole collection (switch, joycons, dock, charger, hdmi):

AmazonBasics Travel and Storage Case for Nintendo Switch - Black

And one for the switch in handheld mode. I use both quite frequently:

Orzly Carry Case Compatible With Nintendo Switch - RED Protective Hard Portable Travel Carry Case Shell Pouch for Nintendo Switch Console & Accessories

Pro controller - easier to play games in docked mode than the joycons.

Smash is out next Friday, but it looks like the best game of the year material.

Pokémon Let’s Go is a spin off, remake of yellow version, but it is a great game. Maybe not $60 great for gameplay, but for nostalgia. I’d say a fair price is around $40.

Games suggested:

Must Play Exclusives:

Zelda: BOTW (10/10) little bit of a learning curve, but open world game with 100+ hours of content

Super Mario Odyssey (9.5/10) very laid back and at times almost too easy, but overall very fun and creative. 30 hours of content

Exclusives W/ Friends or Online:

Mario Kart 8 (9/10)

Super Mario Party Switch (8.5/10)

Other Top Tier Exclusives:

Splatoon (8.5/10) (may be stressful online, but awesome game for both online play and “salmon runs”)

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (8.5/10) (tough game but such awesome level design, music; this game can become frustrating)

Mario Rabbids (8.5/10) (fun game, again, can become frustrating as it is a strategy, turn based game with Nintendo characters)

Pokémon Let’s Go (8.5/10) (fun game, super nostalgic trip back to the past of Pokémon origins but now in 3D with alolan forms)

We still don’t know about Super Smash Bros Ulitmate, but I can’t imagine it won’t be a 9 or 9.5 out of 10.

Golf story is the next exclusive game I’ll be getting some time down the road, very hit or miss with people however.

Disclaimer: I don’t really get non exclusives on switch, as I can get them on PC for cheap 9/10 times (except red dead). Also, I do not care for JRPG’s, so I can’t comment on Xenoblade, Octopath, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter etc.

As others have pointed out, indies are great for the Switch, not too demanding to require further CPU or GPU Power to hinder gameplay, but you will pay the “Nintendo tax”. This is that Nintendo hardly has sales on games. But the point of the Switch is gaming on the go, so it’s a good trade off. If that’s not your reasoning, then stick with indies on stronger consoles or PC.

Joycons are not too small, I would pair them with these if you want to use them single player (like Mario kart or Mario party):

FASTSNAIL Grips for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, Wear-resistant Handle Kit for Switch Joy Cons Controller, 2 Pack (Black)

When attached to the switch in handheld mode, you can use this to help:

Orzly Comfort Grip Case for Nintendo Switch - Protective Back Cover for use on The Nintendo Switch Console in Handheld Gamepad Mode with Built in Comfort Padded Hand Grips - Smokey Slate

u/BCRplus44 · 35 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Amazon link

I think I'll end up getting the "Link's Tunic" one since it looks sturdier and the case overall looks really cool.

Here are some of the chargers that are known to perform "GOOD" or "BEST" with the Switch.

Charger|Price (USD)|Link|Notes
Nintendo Switch AC Adapter|$29.99|Amazon US|This is the only charger you should use with the dock but it's big and doesn't work great with any phones
Google 18W Pixel charger|$35|Google Store|More portable than Nintendo's charger, great at charging phones too, 6ft detachable cable
Google 60W USB-C charger|$59.99|Google Store|Bundled with Chromebook Pixel 2, great for laptops, very long 12ft cable
Apple 61W USB-C charger|$69|Amazon US, Apple|Bundled with 2016 13" MacBook Pro, no cable included
Apple 87W USB-C charger|$79|Amazon US, Apple|Bundled with 2016 15" MacBook Pro, no cable included
RAVPower 26800mAh USB-PD battery|$74.99|Amazon US|Might charge much slower unless you turn off the Switch before plugging it in. Avoid the included bad AC adapter.

Here are some other links for the Pixel phone charger: Best Buy, UK version

Charger|Price (USD)|Link|Notes
Motorola TurboPower USB-C 15|$15.99|Amazon US|Non-detachable 5ft cable
SONEic 15W USB-C|$19.99|Amazon US|Detachable 3ft cable
HORI Switch car charger|$19.99|Amazon US|Probably the best car charger for now
Google 22.5W Dual Port USB-C charger|$39.99|Google Store|Two USB-C ports, includes one detachable 6ft cable
RAVPower 20100mAh USB-C battery|$57.99|Amazon US|
Apple 12W iPad USB charger|$19.99|Amazon US, Apple|Requires a USB A-to-C cable, better than any other USB-A chargers

I won't list prices here since they fluctuate a lot. Some of the chargers listed above have a non-removable cable. All the others (except the iPad charger) require a USB C-to-C cable.

USB C-to-C: For the Macbook, Google, SONEic, and battery pack chargers listed above. Here are a few on Amazon: AmazonBasics,
Anker, Cable Matters, Aukey.

USB A-to-C: The iPad charger is the only one that gives good charging speeds with these. The 5ft cable included with the Pro Controller works. Here are some others on Amazon: AmazonBasics, Anker, Cable Matters, Aukey.

No matter which charger you use, it doesn't matter whether the cable says it's USB 2.0, USB 3.0, or USB 3.1. They all charge at the same speed. Just make sure it has the correct plug shape on each end, that it has good reviews at a reputable merchant, and that it's long enough for how you want to use it.

Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Stand - Switch

u/psicat76 · 30 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Everything mentioned here is great advice. I would only add to get a carrying case and screen protector. As for games the Pokémon: Let’s Go games, you can play coop and help him, and any Lego game are also great for kids.

u/lodum · 30 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

>Can we buy and download the games through the Console's Nintendo Store like you can for Xbox and Playstation games?

>I want a more Xbox style controller for home play

Switch Pro Controller

> is there any other well reviewed accessories that are must haves for using outside the home?

Get a screen protector. This is the one I have, it works fine. You might want a case to protect the Switch,j I have no recommendations on that. Otherwise, a carrying case is almost a necessity as you can't keep it in your pocket. I don't have any recommendations on that, either, but you can't go wrong as long as you don't get a really dumb one.

u/ejhockey · 29 pointsr/digitalnomad

Regular Nintendo Switch! Buy an HDMI cable and compatible USB-C dongle (I got this one off of Amazon: so you don't need the docking station, and bring the original power adapter along. Now you can play the Switch on your hotel TV!

I've hooked mine up to almost every TV in hotels I've stayed at across the world. All the TV needs is an HDMI port and you're good to go (sometimes you gotta figure out how to change the input, not too hard though).

Edit: I also recommend getting this small stand. Great for airplanes, trains, rooms with a desk and no TV, etc.

u/Cripnite · 29 pointsr/nintendo

Here's a link to the same controller (without Mario theme) on, which should be free shipping if sent within Canada and over $35 (which it is in Canadian money).

-1. You need a LOT of watts, and to do that you need to use the raid den exploit.

This video explains it well, except he says you need nintendo online and you don't.

It can kind of suck to do this for watts. I got 2 million from going for each Gmax and I had fun doing it, so that's what I recommend. You're fine with just half a million for any singular fossilmon though.

-2. Spend it at the Focus digger of the digger duo. That's the one on the left. You'll get a lot of all 4 fossils this way, but you'll get around 5 times more of 2 of the four possible fossils. (Drake and Fish for Shield, Bird and Dino for Sword) You'll also get bottle caps and money items. Now this can really suck, so I really recommend buying one of these:

Yes, it's a little silly to buy a controller just for this, but I've had it help me in other games as well. The main thing about this turbo controller is that it can turbo press the button for you, so you can just leave the console by itself overnight. But if you don't mind pressing A a lot...

Also, watch out for items hitting cap, particularly the money items.

-3. Now we have a bunch of fossils. After a little over half a million I had about 250 of 2 kinds and about 50 of the other 2. Go to Cara Liss, and figure out what fossils you need to store to enable you to create a fossilmon with just pressing A and no directional movement.

-4. Once you have that all set up, save in front of her, and just turn on the A turbo button again. When she's all done, check for shinies and then soft reset if there's none to be found. For smaller volumes it was fine to just keep an eye on it. I used about 25 combinations for one of the mons and it reset every 8 minutes. But for Dracovish I had 250 combinations ready so it took about 78 minutes.

I took note of this because it was distracting for me to have it on screen and keep psyching myself thinking maybe I saw a shiny and stopped everything to check. So I set up an alarm every time I reset and turned the TV off or switched the channel.

LMK if you have any questions!

General QoL tips:

  1. You can soft reset a little faster by pressing Y and resetting instead of pressing X to close the game down.

  2. Turn off Give Nicknames in options.

  3. Make Send to Boxes Automatic.
u/dancingtosirens · 21 pointsr/ThriftStoreHauls

This isn't the official Nintendo Pro Controller, this is the HoriPad which retails for bout $16

u/PistolasAlAmanecer · 21 pointsr/nintendo

Yes, but designed specifically for the Switch with a separate hard shell case and space for the dock, cables, etc. Something like what we're seeing in this old ad.

u/RoyalAquaBlue · 21 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I use the RDS Industries Nintendo Switch Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case. It's $20 at Walmart and Amazon.

It has room for cartridges under the system in little removable plastic boxes. I removed them. The pouch in the middle makes for nice padding. The case is fairly rigid, so I know I could drop my system and not fear it's safety.

Personally, this is what I plan to use forever when traveling with my switch. If I need more than this... like extra controllers and the dock... I'll use a second bag and load it up with all the extras and then use this case for the system and put that in the same bag.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the handle is great and makes carrying the system extra easy.

u/NMTommy · 20 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Or just buy one of these:
HORI Compact Playstand for Nintendo Switch Officially Licensed by Nintendo

Problem solved.

u/maxk713 · 20 pointsr/smashbros

Well since no one seems interested in answering the question and instead wants to criticize your life choices, I'll quickly go through a few things you may want to consider.

  • USB-C car charger. I got no reason to suggest this other than I really like USB-C. It honestly won't make a difference. Assuming you have a cell phone, buy whatever car charger will work with your phone too. My phone came with a USB-C to USB-C, so I got no need for USB-A ports.
  • Pro Controller. Instead of getting a GC controller and adapter, it might be easier to just buy a pro controller. It comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable, so that would be one less purchase you have to make.
  • Neither Pro Controller or GC Controller. The Switch comes with two Joy Cons and a Joy Con grip to make a pretty standard controller layout. It might not be the most comfortable, but its reasonable and obviously cheaper than buying any extra accessories.
  • Power bank. If you are going to be in a car, you may want an extra source of power for when your car isn't running. Of course that is money and if you are conscious of when you are charging, you don't need it, but it may be nice to have. Worth a thought.
  • Screen protector. Get it anyways. It would suck really bad if you bought all of this only for the screen to break. Especially if you are only playing in tabletop mode. I would recommend getting this one.

That's all I can think of for now. Feel free to ask me if you got any questions.
u/bricked3ds · 20 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I was wondering the same but realized, it's for this charging stand:

u/kerning_PQ · 19 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
u/whiskeytab · 19 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Real talk: As someone who travelled a lot for work this year, the best solution for bringing the dock is to get one of the 3D printed shells and buy a 2nd official dock and transplant its contents in to it.

Unfortunately Nintendo still aren't taking portability seriously and don't offer a travel dock of their own so this is the only real option if you're looking to down-size the official dock (don't use 3rd party ones as they are known to fry your switch).

This is the one I use:

Taking the parts out of the official dock and putting them in to this really isn't hard and this is the only SAFE way to have a proper portable dock.

u/Biggus_TM · 19 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Ill build two routes handheld gaming and docked.

Switch - $300

Pro Controller -$65

Legend of Zelda BOTW - 44.99

Mario Kart 8 -$55

Total - $ 464.00

Switch - $300

Legend of Zelda BOTW - 44.99

Nintendo Official Wall Charger - $28 (I choose this because I am very picky about power options with consoles and I know this will function)

Switch Case - $15 (This can be hit or miss a lot of people love butterfox but my two smelled like shit and opted for a better version, but for the price it is unbeatable, worth the risk of the smell)

Mario Kart 8 -$55

Total - $443

Games can be changed in and out but imo BOTW is the best game on the switch and Mario Kart 8 is loads of fun. I personally do not have a pro controller, mainly because I play strictly handheld but from what I have been told it is a must for docked gameplay.

Edit: In the future you are going to need a SD card. Especially if you are going the Digital route, again personally I prefer physical and the at of collecting the games but that is me.

I believe THIS is what he talks about, but there's also 3D printable ones that are the same but maybe a little more rough.

Like THIS one or if the front part is what makes you nervous you could go THIS way

u/smore566 · 17 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a screen protector, the switch needs it. I recommend the amfilm ones on amazon, link to it. That comes with 2 screen protectors and all the tools you need to put it on for $7.99.

u/gamepete64 · 17 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Easily the best screen protector for the Switch and it comes with 2 in the pack
amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack)

u/AtomKick · 17 pointsr/nintendo

You can get this $13 stand:

I think it folds flat so you can easily put it i a bag to take it on the go.

u/HormonalWhore · 17 pointsr/shittykickstarters

I said this last time this project was on this sub, but I'll say it again: I can get this and this for $~70 and it will last longer than this $100+ device. Even if it does ship, I see no reason to buy this over something that likely works better that costs less.

Edit: the battery pack is on sale right now, which only makes this combo a better deal.

u/waffledork · 17 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I picked up the Hori Switch Stand specifically for traveling. Being able to charge while playing is a huge plus but the stand also comes with 3 settings so you can angle your Switch to something other than what thr kickstand offers.

As a tall guy, the kickstand on the Switch doesn't angle the screen enough when you don't have much space to maneuver in Economy seating. The tray table is too close. Having the extra angles makes the Switch playable in tabletop mode for me on airplanes.

Sure you can charge while in handheld mode but that discounts the ability to play multiplayer (MK8D or the like with my wife).

u/WafflesGaming · 16 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yeah, the kickstand is extremely clunky, I rarely ever use it. Your best bet would be to buy the HORI Playstand on amazon, here's the link:

I've heard pretty good things about it.

u/Ganrokh · 16 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a screen protector. it doesn't matter if you don't use one on other devices because you're careful. Get a screen protector. The Switch has a soft screen, meaning it's less likely to break on a fall, but can scratch easily. Even the dock can scratch it.

We recommend this screen protector.

u/Username271980 · 16 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

As a parent, I would strongly recommended you put a screen protector on the Switch, if you haven't already. This is the one we used: amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack)

u/k1ngm3 · 16 pointsr/SwitchHaxing

Get an 8bitdo wireless adapter! I actually just picked one up for other games and I have been using my ps4 controller on the switch. Sadly I think your biggest problem will be that let’s go doesn’t support pro controllers and only uses the buttons to throw the ball in handheld mode.

Here it is on amazon though i have seen it around other places!

u/chewingstraws · 16 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'm getting this one because I think it looks nice

u/enpassantman · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I highly recommend the amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector.

Currently on Amazon for under $10 does not bubble and comes with a backup.

u/Sarmathal · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you need a screen protector I highly recommend the amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector.

You should also pick up a Pro Controller. I know it's expensive but it's so worth it.

u/scooterg2004 · 14 pointsr/hardwareswap

Just curious why people are asking $350 for this combo when it's $390 on amazon brand new.

To me brand new and warranty is worth the $40.

u/F0REM4N · 14 pointsr/Steam

Amazon has a very large network of registered third party sellers. If an item is out of stock with Amazon, they will often present the next cheapest option. When the Switch was really hot for example, it was constantly sold out. There were always some available though at large markups.

Here for example is a list of all of the current third party switch listing in the US.

u/blablablabber52 · 14 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You forgot:

  • I finally got a Nintendo Switch! Which accessories should I buy for it before it gets here? Most people recommend a screen protector and a carrying case. As for the most frequently recommended carrying cases, there's this one from RDS Industries and this one from Butterfox.

  • What's the biggest, cheapest, most reliable microSD card I can buy for the Switch? There's no best answer, but a lot of people on this sub recommend this one from Samsung.

  • Should I buy a Nintendo Switch? What about all of the problems I heard about? Maybe? I don't know. That's your call, friend. There are problems, as there are with any new piece of technology, but Nintendo has a great warranty with excellent customer support, and the issues aren't quite as widespread as it seems (people are most vocal when there's a problem; they typically won't say anything if there's nothing wrong).

  • What games are coming out for the Switch? There's a link in the sidebar on desktop, but for mobile users, check here.

Low key impressed with this list!

>Bulk loose leaf tea. Best I've found is health food shop. I don't like all the packaging they do for tea, I'm happy to diffuse it myself

>Bulk staples: spices, rice, pasta, etc. BULk for best prices.

Large Asian Grocery stores like MCQ or NP.

>Proper cold-pressed dill pickles, Lithuanian half-sour type. These are only brined, never heated, so they have a crisp snap (and can't be shipped really because of refrigeration). Claussen is the best comparison, but afaik you can't get those outside the USA because of refrigeration issues

Somewhere like The Re Store (Northbridge/Leederville) is probably your best bet (same for bulk black olives).

>A Switch. Refurbished is fine. Saw $500 at the mall and that's too much for me to pay.

Currently $398 Free Shipping at Amazon. (Cheap Nintendo Switch Consoles seem to be one of the only things local Amazon is good for)

>Nice potted plants. Bunnings?

Bunnings and Waldecks are the majors, although keep an eye out for various plant sales run by local councils as well as seasonal warehouse plant sales, often advertised on social media. Worth searching for nurseries in your local area on google maps if you want to try and compare with more local options.

>Art supplies: polymer clay, ribbon, dried flowers, fabric, felt, beads, feathers, silk flowers

Riot Art & Craft is a major chain in malls that would have this sort of stuff, you may also find some of these items at the other big craft chains like Spotlight or Lincraft. Jacksons for painting / drawing supplies.

>BBQ sauce, American style. Default styles here don't have proper tang or spice.

Fancy IGAs (e.g 2nd Ave Mount Lawley, Taylor Rd Nedlands) - very extensive BBQ sauce ranges.

>Mild peppers. Not capsicum, but stuff like ortega or poblano (anaheim peppers?), mild chiles like for stuffing for a chile relleno. All I can find are "chilis" which seem to encompass all peppers in one broad stroke while also excluding mild ones somehow?

The major grocery stores are hit and miss and will stock these sorts of peppers sometimes, but not all year round. The larger asian grocery chains mentioned above may be able to assist as well as the smaller greengrocers / fruit and vegetable stores found in most malls. I'd suggest you grow your own if you have the space, they grow super easy in the Perth climate and will provide you with more peppers than you would ever need 9-10 months of the year.

>Chipotle. Powder form is less ideal, but it's better than nothing.

The Spice Wagon in Morley (The market this is inside, Coventry has a MASSIVE range of multicultural food shops and restaurants in addition to this place), you should be able to find Chipotle in Adobo at any of the fancier IGAs or at some of the asian grocery stores already mentioned.

>For the same reason, jellied cranberry sauce

Coles and Woolworths have this (Ocean Spray brand) all year round - albeit in a jar rather than a can.

All major supermarkets should have at least one variety in the dairy case with all the other milk (separate with the other refrigerated misc milks) - often only available in a 600ml bottle though.

>Marinated mushrooms. In the USA, i get them in jars or at the olive bar.

I've seen them in major supermarket in jars / cans, may be referred to by the french term (champignon).

>Stone fruit. Can't find peaches, plums, nectarines, etc.

Seasonal fruit that doesn't tend to get imported from other countries, these are often only available in the summer (November - April at the most).

>Japanese grocery store. Do those exist in Perth?

There are a few (two in Subiaco alone - here and here), however keep in mind that unless you want something really niche the larger asian grocery stores will often have what these two stores stock at a much lower price.

Be mindful of what accessories you personally need. People needs are different. The only global accessories that seem to be useful to everyone:

  1. A screen protector. This applies to pretty much any tablet accessory where the screen is not covered by design (like the 3DS clam shell). This is the one I got and it works well ($9.00):

  2. A carrying case. Being portable, odds are you will want to take it out at some point. Seeing it's an expensive piece of hardware, it makes sense to have a case to put everything in it for protection. You can buy the neat ones with colors and crazy designs and space, but for me, this basic one works perfectly fine ($13.00):

  3. An extra charger. Unless you already have a Type C charger, you will likely want to get one. Usually goes for $15.00.

  4. If, and ONLY if you plan to get your games digitally, you WILL want an additional memory card. The one I paste below has enough space for at least 20 games given the average game space that we've seen so far (BoTW takes 14 GB, but Mario Odyssey takes 5.5 Gb, so in average, it evens out.). Note this is only the games you can have installed at a time, you can always remove one or more if you want to download another one, and games you purchase digitally will always be available for re download as long as the eshop exists.

Any other accessory should REALLY be considered on a need-to basis. Not everyone needs a pro controller (depending on the games you play, I've been fine without it with only BoTW, Mario Kart, Fate/Extella and Mario+Rabbids.), and not everyone needs an extra, improved stand/dock.

Finally, do some research on what games you will actually want to play. What I've seen is that games on the switch are NOT cheap, and unless you have extra disposable income, buying a game you don't really play can lower your overall appreciation of the system. Not only that, but because releases are sparse at the moment, it's easier to jump into the hype in order to keep using your shiny new hardware. Though that really applies to any console.

Well, they changed it back finally.

This is the Switch listing, and always has been the Switch listing. There has never been another Switch listing for the core game, and the rep that told someone that Amazon would be adding the Switch preorder "soon" and hadn't yet was all levels of wrong. Someone got them to change it yesterday to say "Wii U" instead of "Switch" in the title, and since Amazon reps aren't informed on the issue, they just saw it categorized under "Wii U" on Amazon's CMS (Since they don't have a Switch category yet, all Switch games were put here since the beginning) but it seems that they've gotten it fixed. If you preordered with this one and see "You Purchased this item on XXX" at the top, you should be fine. Thanks to the fiasco, they removed this game from the Wii U category, and now it is under "Video Games › Kids & Family". "Platform - Nintendo Switch" has also been added above the preorder button, under the pricing.

This is also the link that is listed on the official Nintendo Zelda website buy page for the Switch. This was honestly the easiest way for people to know that yes, they were buying the Switch version, despite what Amazon reps (that once again, clearly didn't know) were telling people.

This is the Wii U listing, and always has been the Wii U listing. They added "Wii U" in the title to this one.

Despite the irony of a million and one threads being made on this topic (and me adding to that number now), hopefully this is the end of Breath of the Wild 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Anyone that fucks this up now clearly just isn't reading.

Hey /r/NintendoSwitch, I've been using a packing cube for traveling with my switch, and wanted to share how well it's worked for me. I keep most of this stuff together as a "go bag" and it's really helped keep all my stuff organized. It has made it really easy to just grab this and go, I highly recommend.

With it I've been able to pack all of this into a single pack, about 3/4ths the size of a shoebox:

  • My Nintendo Switch (w/ Joy-Con attached)
  • A Small Switch Case
  • Three additional pairs of Joy-Con
  • Two Pro Controllers
  • Two of extra Joy-Con straps (for set attached to Switch)
  • Nintendo Switch Dock Set (TV dock, power cable, usb c-to a charging cable)
  • HDMI cable

I photoshopped out the label from the brand for the cube, because I didn't want this to look like hailcorporate material (I put a link below). This cube is approx 11" x 7" x 5" ( 28 x 18 x 13 cm) and ends up fitting all of this snugly, so I'd recommend trying similar dimensions if you give it a shot. It actually fits so perfectly that I have barely any shifting of the contents. I also find that it doesn't put any strain on my switch itself, however it's typically not in the bag. This one has loops on the sides, so I used cable ties to keep the cords organized, an added bonus.

The cube is a Patagonia "Black Hole Cube 6-L", but any other brand's cube of similar size would probably work out fine. Being able to include a case was a must, the Nintendo Switch Premium Travel Case for Console and Games" by PDP is a *perfect* fit, however it's not my preferred case.

It's been a really nice travel option for me, so I figured I'd share.
u/Selcouthit · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

u/k_Reign · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I've been absolutely loving this one:

You can get it for I think $25 in stores. It's not huge and it's really tough so you don't need to worry about throwing it around.

u/Irrelevant231 · 10 pointsr/Switch

I personally have an Orzly tempered glass screen protector, but these are mostly useful against scratches; Nintendo opted for a plastic screen which can scratch very easily, whereas glass is more prone to cracking (I have heard that plastic won't do this as easily). Tempered glass, as the wikipedia article states that when broken, because of the way it is manufactured it will 'crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards as plate glass (a.k.a. annealed glass) does. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury.' This should, therefore, protect the screen, and the worst case scenario isn't dangerous.

For something to protect it when in use, I have no personal experience. However, both my travel case and screen protector are from Orzly, and they appear very high quality, the screen protector had a very helpful tutorial video on youtube regarding application, and a few days after ordering I got a helpful email with tips for application. Because of this, I am inclined to believe they have high standards, so I am not surprised that their grip case is Amazon's choice for "Nintendo Switch grip". The description mentions impact resistance, and it has very positive reviews and several questions answered. Because of this, I highly suggest you have a look at the Amazon page yourself.®-Comfort-Grip-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B077V57CVV/

u/GalaxyVulpix · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Assuming that Screen protector is plastic, you probably shouldn't use it, all you would be doing is putting plastic on plastic.

I recommend getting a protector made out of Tempered Glass like this instead.

u/WendigoZero17 · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

These are the best cases for handheld consoles

I have the traveler case for my gba, ds, dsi, dsi xl, 3ds, N3DS XL, PSP, Vita, and now switch. They're super rugged, and they will hold 12 games and a charging cord. There's molded cutouts for the triggers on the joycons to keep them from wearing out in the case. You'll get lots of recommendations for the overpriced butterfox case, but this a better case for less money. This thing is a tank.

u/Galen640 · 10 pointsr/Switch

First of all: Screen Protector. Once it's on you never notice it, doesn't hurt to get that extra safety!

I've bought 10 games so far, and I'd say get all of these because I have enjoyed them. BOTW, Splatoon 2, Sonic Mania, Rayman Legends, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (assuming you like DBZ,) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament DX, Street Fighter 2 Ultra, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and Yooka Laylee.

If I had to pick 3 for you to get to start out then I would pick Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I think that's enough variety to keep you busy for awhile.

A carrying is always a good thing, I'd recommend This case because it's the one I use and does its job.

Accessory wise I have joycon grips which are AMAZING when playing with one joycon.

Also, the grip it comes with is trash. Get the Power A Grip it feels A LOT better in your hands.

As for SD Cards, it depends. I have a 32GB SD card. I mainly buy physical games, The extra space is for screenshots and videos, and download only games, like Sonic Mania, Yooka Laylee, etc. If you're going for digital only then get a 256GB. Sure you won't use a ton of space now, but you might a few years down the line. Also, do NOT get the official Nintendo ones. They are a RIP-OFF! Here are some nice alternatives that will get the job done for A LOT cheaper: 32 GB 64 GB 128 GB and finally 256 GB

If you have any other questions feel free to ask OP, and other (potential) switch owners!

Quick edit: sorry that some links won't be put with the text, no idea what the issue is

u/JackSparrowUSA · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Screen protector, yes; amFilm

Pro controller: I’d say no. My kids (7,6,4 yo) prefer the joycons. For adults, the Pro Controller is a more optimal experience imo.

Battery Life: depends on the game, but call it 3 hours.

Charger: car charger or power bank may make sense of will be in the car for more than a full charge.

Get a carrying case: Butterfox

Other games: Super Mario Odyssey (1-2 players); Snipperclips Plus (retail and digital) and Overcooked (digital only) are good games for 2+ players. To play 3 player you would need an extra set of joycons or a pro controller.

u/largepanda · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Very seriously: a lot of third-party docks have bricked peoples Switches. Nyko has just been sued over their dock bricking consoles, and /r/NintendoSwitch strongly recommends against using any docks other than the official Nintendo one.

If you want a different shape, you can get something like this, taking the internals out of an official dock and putting it in the smaller case.

u/elichondo · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You could take your current dock apart and put it in one of these:

I too want to get a portable dock, but the Nintendo Dock and this case just make it too expensive to do, but thought I'd throw this out there for you.

u/TemptedTemplar · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The official dock is the only 100% safe option.

Though there are smaller cases, that you can put the Nintendo dock chipsets into to make it more portable.

u/darkuni · 9 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The one mentioned works just fine for me.

I ended up going a different route. I got this:

.. and a nice stand:

This configuration allows me to use whatever the hell grip case I want and still gain ALL the benefits of using the dock (while actually hiding the dock under the desk). Take a look.

Hi guys,
I really need your help. I was thinking of gifting someone a nintendo switch after a few months but I know little to nothing about video games or consoles. I didn't grow up playing video games and have never owned a console. I was hoping you guys could help answer some of my questions and help me.

  • First, is it too late to gift it in several months (around Jan 2018)? Would it be old/out of trend or whatever? In what intervals (months/years) do new designs/consoles come in the video game world?

  • What should I buy? Should I just buy the bundle, does it come with games, should I try to buy some games, if so what are commonly liked ones?

  • How much does it cost exactly? I googled it but the retailers on the nintendo website have varying price. Amazon has it for about 400 bucks, target and gamestop have it for 299 bucks. Why is it so different? Is it the same thing regardless?

  • How is it? How would you describe your experience? Is it much better than consoles in the past? Was it worth the cost?

    Thanks in advance.
u/prophecy0 · 9 pointsr/Switch

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Redout
  • Splatoon 2

Wait, your commuting time is 5 hours of your life each day? Sorry, but that sounds miserable and you should really think about a lifestyle change.

Sometimes I take my Switch on the bus and use a slim case so it doesn't take up much room in my laptop backpack. Works well for me. I've taken it with me off and on since launch day with zero problems.

I would imagine something like this would work just fine:

u/osrs_h1n1 · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Going Physical for all games that are released that way. This way if I invest in a game that turns out to be sour (they're all sour if you lick them) I can trade it in or sell it. If you buy digital, you're stuck with it.

I'm rocking the RDS travel case which has 8-slots for games. So dealing with the cartridges isn't a big deal and I love displaying my video game boxes on my shelf.

Edit: I also have Amazon Prime, so all of my pre-orders and games that have been out less than 2 weeks are 20% off. So the games I want at launch I get cheaper than buying digitally.

u/EpicCakes · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Just to add on, if you travel a lot or plan on taking it on the go, a case would be a good investment. Personally, this case has worked great for me . Also congrats on winning a Switch that's pretty awesome.

u/CuriousMapleTree · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I just bought a Switch last week and over the week bought BOTW, MM2, and MK8. I was torn between a PS4 and a Switch, but have been so happy with my decision.

What I wanted to mention though, is how easy it is to get your X1 or PS4 controllers to work on the Switch. I'm not crazy about the joycons, and it was eating me up thinking I had to spend $89.99(cdn) to get a second controller (pro) so my friends and family could play when they are over.

So i started looking for 3rd party controllers, which lead me to finding 8bitdo, which is a company that makes controllers across all gens of consoles, as well as lots of adapters and other gaming things.

I bought this adapter for $25 and it will let you use your ps4, xbox, or other controllers on the Switch.

This was perfect since I alread had two PS4 controllers for my PC. Once the adapter showed up the same day (thanks Amazon) it was as simple as plugging the USB adapter directly into the Switch, and hitting pair on the adapter, then the PS and share button on the controller, and boom, it worked just like that.

Full rumble, full motion controls, and I get to keep using my favourite controllers on the Switch, with seemingly no compromises. :).

BASSTOP Portable Dock Replacement Case for Nintendo Switch (Only The case, You Have to DIY with The Circuit Board chip from The Original Dock) (Black)

I believe this is the only way to be 100% safe. It takes the internals of the original dock. There are plenty tutorials on how to do it on youtube.

$70 on Amazon.

Nintendo Joy-Con (L/R) - Neon Red/Neon Blue

You can get them used for about $60.

Remember that they are effectively 2 controllers. They are expensive but it's really the only option.

RDS and Nintendo make some great hard cases, but there is another case that a lot of companies have copied from eachother that was well done... Surge being one of them. They are a little softer and don't have a carry handle, but are still great cases.

It's the basic stock "official" Nintendo switch case and it is very nice.

I ended up preferring the Amazon Basics version as it was slightly smaller and the handle on the official one annoyed me.

As far as Amazon goes, best advice is to be on the ball. You can go HERE to click the [Email Me] button, ensuring that you're updated when preorders go live. A solid guess is that it will go live after the Jan 12th presentation, but you better have it now to be sure.

As for in-store, I'm calling Gamestop one of these days to see if they already take pre-orders. People have reported that SOME stores are taking pre-orders now, and others will obviously wait for the Jan 12th presentation. So if you want a midnight release or in-store release, make sure to call some places now just to be sure.

u/AmiiboSteal · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The chances of a website with a high profile product such as the switch is likely and possible of crashing, although in cases like those, it's always great to have the app installed onto your phone. I've been able to preorder items with high demand, like the switch through the app, and also by monitoring its offer listings on Amazon, instead of the direct URL. Typically the item will appear first on the offer listing page, and then it'll appear on the direct URL to the product page. Feel free to bookmark this:

Definitely a Screen Protector

A Travelling Case would be nice.

I also added Dr Scholls Moleskin to the front of my dock to reduce the risk of scratching the screen protector. (Two small strips on the parts inside the dock that are raised.)

A Memory Card also helps for the digital only games.

What color Switch did you get? I got the grey switch then bought a pair of Red Joycons and another pair of Blue Joycons. So in total I have a grey, red, and blue L Joycon and a grey, red, and blue R Joycon.

If you got the grey switch and then buy the [two color Joycon packs] (;amp;qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) then you won't be able to get one of each color for L/R without over paying. This is because the [two color Joycon packs] (;amp;qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) are always Red L and Blue R.

If you bought a neon switch, then buy the [two color Joycon pack] (;amp;qid=1493753597&sr=8-2&keywords=blue+joycons) and a pair of Grey Joycons for all combinations.

Also, don't buy Joycons on Amazon, they are stupid expensive right now.

I don't have a pro controller yet, but people seem to love it.

Zelda = Must Buy

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe = Must Buy

1-2 Switch = Great for parties/friends

Snipperclips = Great for people who don't play games often (girlfriends/parents/kids). Secret here is to not explain how to play/what to do and let them have fun and try to figure out the puzzles on their own. Act like a support character and you'll have a blast watching them.

Binding of Isaac = I love this game, but put countless hours on the PC version. Mature themes

Super Bomberman R = Classic mode with easy CPUs is fun for roommates. I haven't played through the adventure mode yet.

Wonderboy = Cute/Fun side scroller.

Has Been Heroes = I don't have this yet, apparently very difficult.

Other notes:

I started collecting amiibos after getting a switch (Be very careful, it's easy to get addicted and drop a ton of money here).

I got a Joycon charging dock since the only way to charge extra pairs of Joycons without the Joycon charging dockis to rotate them in and out of the switch while it charges/docked.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

PS I love the Switch so much. It's definitely my favorite console ever.

u/Lorben · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hello fellow gamer dad.

First and foremost, get a screen protector. The Switch has a plastic screen so it can scratch easily. Moving on.

Mario Kart is a good start for a young gamer. It has assists in the game that help keep you on the track, which is the most frustrating part of the game for new players. It's not super obvious about it so your kid won't feel like they're being helped.

There's a Black Friday bundle that includes a Switch with Mario Kart 8 for $300, the normal price of the system without a game. Best Buy and Target have advertised the bundle, other places will likely have it as well. Be aware that there was a revision of the Switch that came out a couple months ago and the bundle includes the older version. The difference is that the battery lasts for around 3 hours in the old model and 5 hours in the new. There's no functional differences so it depends on if the battery life is important to you.

The controllers are OK for a 7 year old to use. Any new thing takes some time to get used to, but it's not too bad for them.

While quite few games allow you to play multiplayer with each of you using a single Joycon, your adult sized hands will thank you if you get a Pro Controller. Some games, like Minecraft or Lego City Undercover, require you to have a full controller, either two Joycons in a grip or a Pro controller. If you get a Pro controller as a second controller you won't have to worry about if a game supports single Joycon multiplayer.

Some other good games for new players

  • Kirby Star Allies

  • Yoshi's Crafted World

  • Pokemon Let's Go Eevee or Pikachu

All of these have local co-op so you can play together. All also support two people each using a single Joycon to play together.

They also all have demos on the eShop where you can download and try a piece of the game. Since you don't know what your daughter will like you could play through the demos with her first before buying. You can't put that under a tree though, so if you want to have something for Christmas, the above 3 plus Mario Kart would be my suggestion for a new young player to play with her dad.
u/CoryBoehm · 7 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Some recommended Switch accessories:

  • A tempered glass screen protector such as ORLZY, Spigen or AMFilm. All are excellent only reason AMFilm gets more recommendations as it was first to market.

  • A protective case like Hori Tough Pouch

  • Hori LAN Adapter if you play online lots as the Switch has very weak WiFi service. Also other lan adapters may work but only the Hori one is officially supported.

  • Hori Play Stand if you frequently play in table top mode or need to charge while in table top mode.

  • Pro Controller

  • The [Google Pixel USB C-C charger] ( as it is easy to find locally, even on sale, and more compact than the Nintendo one but it won't power the dock.

  • Nintendo A-C cable (comes with the Pro Controller)

  • Your choice of headphones

  • A larger bag such as Butterfox Carry All case to hold your EDC (every day carry).

  • PowerA Cartridge Cases if you need extra game storage on the go (comes in several designs).

  • RAVPower 26800 PD a battery pack with both Type C in and out such as this one. Type C is means quicker charging and Type C out to safely power the Switch while using it.

  • PowerA Hybrid Cover might also be of interest to some people. I have not used it though as it is not my style. There are a few different colour/designs.

I bought this Nintendo Switch Case and it carries up to 8 games with it plus two SD card cases that would each fill in one of those 8 game slots. Very nifty!

I rarely take my 3DS with me at all. But when bringing my games along, I had a separate case for that one too.

u/itravelandwheel · 7 pointsr/Switch

I have the Nyko dock as well and the one time I tried to use it I had no picture. I did some research and found out about the potential damage they can cause and decided to never use it again.

I ended up buying a second official dock and installing it in this shell and it works perfectly. Plus it fits in my travel case so I can play easily in my hotel rooms.

u/mothmanex · 7 pointsr/Gaming4Gamers

If you want another dock, buy the original one and a small case for it on amazon.

Usually the issues with usb-c are thanks to the cable. If you want to play it safe, buy one that Benson Leung recommends.

I usually use my ZMI QB820 Power bank with a Veckle USB-C (Benson Leung gave it 4 stars, he decreased a star because when he reviewed it the cable was unbranded. Mine came branded.) with my docked switch without any issues.

So either buy anything related to USB-C from Nintendo, research what you want to buy (reviews, etc) or play it safe buying anything with a good review from Benson Leung.

Personally, for me, I believe that the best case is the Sheikah Slate that comes with BotW SE. EB and Best Buy both said that they will have it, so be on the look out for them, cuz amazon is out.

The same case, with different designs, is made by PDP. You can get them via these links: 1, 2, 3, 4.

This one is quite close to the Sheikah Slate as well, but it doesn't ship to where I am, so I'm not sure it would ship to you.

PDP also has this amazing looking soft canvas cases if you're interested: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

You could also go with Hori hard case, which is ugly af, but looks extremely sturdy. But then the actual case from Nintendo (it's not available yet, just wait for it I guess?) is quite close to the Hori one as well, I guess.

I'm throwing all those links at you, because, I have NO idea who Biogenik are and a quick Google doesn't result in anything positive about them.

As for screen protector, for me generally, any film protector would make the screen look worse. They are also a lot more likely to get scratches than the screen alone. I'd recommend a tempered glass screen protector if you get one at all. Here are some, one from Orzly, and one from CaseBase. Orzly seems like the better choice since you get 2, and their other tempered glass protectors are very highly rated.

I've been going overboard with accessories. Here's what I picked up so far:

Glass screen protector - Just in case.

128GB microSD card - I rarely buy physical games

Pro Controller - I love it. So comfortable.

PowerA Hybrid Case - I basically use this as a stand for my Switch when I'm on the go.

JDeal portable dock - It works. Make sure to follow the instructions. Works with my Nexus5x 5v 3A portable charger.

[Retractable HDMI cable] (;amp;psc=1)

Hestia case - The Switch with the PowerA Hybrid Case, portable dock, portable USB-C charger, and retractable HDMI cable all fit in this.

USB 3.0 LAN Adapter - Faster speeds when on the official dock.

Gooseneck tablet holder - Ultimate comfort. Play while in bed.

Magic NS Wireless Adapter - I had originally bought this so I could use my PS4 controller. This was before I picked up the Pro Controller. It works. There was a recent firmware update that gives gyro support for PS4 controllers and it works well with Splatoon 2.

On the way:

Mumba case - For better comfort/protection while playing in handheld mode.

I use amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector with zero problems. I applied it on day one and it is still rocking strong. BASSTOP Portable Dock Replacement Case for Nintendo Switch (Only The case, You Have to DIY with The Circuit Board chip from The Original Dock) (Black)

u/seanmacproductions · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Your safest bet is getting this off amazon. Basically that's just a plastic shell, you take an official dock apart and place the board inside that. It's the most expensive way to do it (official docks are still like $90), but definitely the safest, since you're basically just using an official dock inside of a different plastic housing.

u/PraiseDannyWoodhead · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

On the original Nintendo dock, it helps greatly to weight down that little spring-loaded plate around the USB-C port to prevent the extension cable from disconnecting. There's an extender that has a built in block to achieve that task but with any standard USB extender, anything that fits and is heavy enough will work fine. I mainly use the Best Buy dock due to the size and restricted entry angle of the original one.

A lot of people like to wet themselves over the butterfox case. I got the RDS one for $25. I really like it. u/qwertylerqw · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You can definitely do that. You definitely want a stand like this one, but other than that it’s fine to use one

u/GreninjaNerfer · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

On accessories - must haves definitely include (like everyone else said):

  • microSD card (64GB minimum imo, 128 is what I have because I have a fair amount of digital games)
  • A TEMPERED GLASS screen protector. This is easily the best screen protector on the market.
  • A travel case. I would recommend a nondescript black one; you don't want something that says "STEAL ME PLS"

    Less important things:

  • A stand (the one on the back of the Switch is pretty bad and if you use it a lot it will just snap off). The good ones are the HORI playstand with 3 angles and the official Nintendo charging stand.
  • Power banks/chargers: u/queuebitt made a whole website for this and regularly posts charger/power bank deals on r/NintendoSwitchDeals.
  • Extra controllers and Joy-Con grips: if you're going to play with multiple people you will need to get more controllers unless you want to play with the single Joy-Cons (which isn't a great experience). The Pro Controller you can find for around $60 now; in my opinion it's a really good investment.

Before we get on to games, there's always the debate of physical vs digital. Indie games are often cheaper digitally because they have to partner with companies to release physical copies, but for most "big" titles physical or digital really depends on the game.

  • Physical: the big advantage is that you can sell it once you're done with the game. This is good for games with low replayability, like Mario Odyssey; however, it comes with less convenience because you have to swap out the cartridge every time to switch games.
  • Digital comes with convenience; you don't have to swap out cartridges and you don't have to deal with potential cartridge issues, but you're stuck with the game and digital games go on sale way less often that physical games. Digital is great for games you'll open and play for a few minutes or rounds, like Mario Kart.

On to games. (these are the ones I have and can approve of)

  • Breath of the Wild is a must have if you're going to buy a Switch. It also has fantastic DLC that you'll probably want to buy along with the game.
  • Super Mario Odyssey is also really fun, but doesn't lend itself to multiple playthroughs very well. The first experience is amazing, but subsequent playthroughs don't have the same charm unless you're speedrunning.
  • Super Mario Party is a good experience for the first few times you play it but it suffers from a lack of content. I'd say get it when it goes on sale.
  • Mario Kart is a staple Nintendo game. Consider digital.
  • Smash Ultimate is also fantastic for both large groups and 2 people, but the solo modes aren't as great.
  • Overcooked 1 & 2 are so much fun, especially if you have 4 people. It quickly turns into a glorious mess and I love it.
  • Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is actually surprisingly fun for a game with maniacal rabbits. It also goes on sale ALL THE DAMN TIME so that's also a thing.
  • Splatoon 2 is a very creative, cute and charming game - but it's a team shooter game, so it's easier to get frustrated compared to other games. The DLC (Octo Expansion) is fantastic, though.
  • Hollow Knight, Celeste, and Shovel Knight are all amazing games (especially for the prices you get them at) but they're basically digital only. I'd say get him an eShop card and let him decide which games he wants.

TL;DR microSD card, screen protector, case. eShop card and get Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart at least.

Also: don't buy anything "Nintendo Switch" branded! They're literally the exact same things as the unbranded ones, just priced higher because of the logo.
u/pay019 · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch you plug directly into the switch. The Hori stand just lifts the switch up so he doesn't need to use 'random desk debris' to access the charging port. You're thinking of 3rd party docks.

Switch charges well in handheld mode (not docked).

The controllers automatically charge when connected to the Switch. If Switch is plugged in they’ll charge to 100%. If not plugged in they’ll charge up to 50%.

Tabletop mode is tricky. The USB-C port is on the bottom and is blocked when using the built-in kickstand. There is a $20 charging stand that solves that problem.

One more thing I'd recommend is the butterfox carrying case. Not the prettiest, but by far the most protective and capacitive. I've been able to keep my anker battery, charging cable, extra joycons and stand in the spare pocket.

And don't forget protection:

It's really easy to apply because it comes with two tabs that you use to lower it onto the screen, allowing you to position it much more easily.

Get a screen protector immediately, the dock scratches the screen. Until you have one, leave it docked as much as you can (the scratches come from being slid into the dock / taken out, not from standard use).

I got this one, it's great:

I also got this for it, but it won't fit in the dock anymore with it, which is fine for me as I don't use the dock:

I have a spare charger for the switch, for trips and playing Disgaea 5 while in bed, which is just a Google Pixel charger:

There, I reached out into the ether and found an original switch adapter

u/wileymurkykidde · 5 pointsr/nintendo

Wow! Both the original post and the comments are really thorough. I have to confess a lot of this is over my head.

I have a question: is it safe to use a 3rd-party converter with an official Nintendo AC adapter?

For example:

  • MoKo 3 in 1

  • Nintendo Switch AC Adapter

I'm hoping the converter simply acts as a pass-through, and that the power adapter works as it should.

EDIT: I hope links to Amazon are allowed. Apologies if they aren't. I wanted to make sure I identified the products I own.
u/kitt_lite · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

u/tobitobiguacamole · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Very necessary. The screen is plastic and scratches very, very easily. See this video for more -

I bought the Orzly one, was like 6 bucks and you can't even tell it's on there -

The amFilm one is supposed to be good too.

Make sure to use the shower/tape hinge technique, described in one of the answers for the amFilm one on amazon. Worked great for me.

u/ke5pay · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

It is not dockable. The case adds about a third to the thickness however it does fit in the case I have and I believe it will fit most other cases. Having said that it takes up enough space that you cannot fit as much in the case, for mine I can get a cord in the pouch but only a small AC adapter. I am personally using this adapter in order to "dock" the unit and treating my joycons as non-removable as it is a bit of a bother to take the case off.

u/GolGarnet · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is the screen protector that I got. Looks great, feels great, works great. And it’s a super cheap investment to keep that screen looking amazing. I had the plastic film one on my switch ( it came with my hybrid cover ) it was ok for a little while but definitely got scuffed up quick and didn’t feel nearly as good as the glass ones.

u/butt-guy · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Man...I'm a big fan of the PDP premium gray case. But I'm pretty excited to see what Waterfield comes up with because a leather case sounds dope. Too bad it'll cost at least $60 though.

u/STUNT1990 · 5 pointsr/nintendo

Not sure but this is PDP's Switch "case" (also on BotW version) and, by the looks of it, it's just a semi rigid pouch.

I'm probably getting this one once I can see it in person or a nice review; it looks like it will have some kind of foam (as shoulder buttons would tilt the switch and yet it seems to be in a horizontal position) and I think it's made by the same company as a pretty similar looking NES mini case.

u/DrDoobie22 · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

What the OP and the user you replied to linked to are the exact same set which is the Link Tunic from PDP. Not only that but PDP seems to have shown colors that are not true to what the actual product is. Link Tunic , notice how the colors do not match up nor do the joy con armour textures. Here are some Gel Guards in red and the red they show is nice and vibrant on the pictures except the top picture which looks brown. I cant trust a company with two different shades, drastic difference in shades nonetheless, on their product. It makes it hard as a consumer to really know what I am getting.

u/ewzzy · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I fully recommend the RDS hard case

My Switch feels totally safe in there. I don't trust soft cases. They'll protect your screen but the sticks on the joycons are easy to break through the case.

u/UnfoldingTime · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

And added pro, IMO, is that you can choose between the standard black, Mario Kart or several different Zelda options for this case. I got the Mario Kart one with my bundle and it's a really nice case for the $20 price tag.

Bad thing about most cases are they don't work with dock. This would serve the purpose and is adjustable and foldable...

I really enjoyed having it on the plane, made the time go by quicker. I rarely take my switch anywhere, hardly ever play in handheld mode, so I take the opportunity to play indie games and other mobile-ish games , completed Bulb Boy on my last flight. I definitely would recommend a carrying case if you're concerned about the system.

Depending on your seats, a stand might really come in handy. I used the fairly popular Stand from amazon. Worked really well on the seat in front of me and was pretty stable even in mild turbulence. Picture

I do find that games with motion kinda jack me up. Played MK8 and got a headache after a little while.

Generally anything third party that handles charging with the Switch is risky. Safest option is that there are kits to open the official dock and reshell it with a smaller form factor. Like this,

u/ticktak10 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Yeah I felt that too when I tried the demo on the switch. I think it is because of the offset analog sticks when compared to the playstation's controller with the analog sticks on the same axis. I've seen a usb dongle that can allow the switch to accept any bluetooth controller so you could play with a ps3 or ps4 controller. These are two I've looked at since the regular joycons keep cramping my hands.

u/F_S_Rocks · 4 pointsr/VideoGameDealsCanada

I honestly don't recommend getting one, instead consider picking up one of these. It's an adapter that lets you pair pretty much any Bluetooth controller with the switch. Useful if you have controllers for other consoles laying around and waaaay cheaper then a pro controller. I honestly think every switch owner should have one, they're that handy.

u/Cardstatman · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a tempered glass screen protector for sure. They have saved my bacon with my iPhone countless times. Plus, this doesn't have edge to edge glass, so side drops wont be as big of a deal, meaning a full body case may not be as important. But a face down fall will likely shatter the screen with no joy-con thumb sticks to brace a fall. Plus, plastic ones look terrible and detract from an otherwise beautiful screen, whereas the tempered glass will look virtually the exact same. EDIT: Here is a good twin pack for $10;amp;qid=1486568284&sr=8-1&keywords=nintendo+switch+tempered+glass

u/Lucifronz · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I haven't bought one, myself (intend to, though, so I can connect my Xbox One controller to my PC when I feel like it), so I can't speak on the quality of any.

Personally a cheap dongle doesn't seem like the best of ideas, because I worry about the quality. Not just whether it'll break (which is less problematic due to the usually condensed size, although the possibility is still there), but because dongles like that don't interact well with updates.

My uncle used a simple wifi adapter for his PC back when he used Windows 7 or 8. Then he updated to Windows 10 and it not only had issues working, but it outright caused crashing when used above a certain download limit. After a while just opening an internet browser guaranteed a blue screen.

That's before and after Windows 10 reinstalls.

So I elect to find something a bit more quality. I have considered the 8Bitdo adapter, myself, because it could also be used for my Switch if I need an extra controller for whatever reason. Although it's unnecessarily large, which is a problem of its own.

this would probably be the best bet;amp;ie=UTF8&qid=1484464466&sr=8-3

but i am working on some designs for a table top stand and a "backpack" for handheld mode to hold some large battery packs

u/lazy_eye_of_sauron · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

My advice, get a tempered glass screen protector. Sure, the screen is plastic and isn't going to shatter, but with a console that you can reasonably plan to be using for 3-5 years you want to make sure that nothing is going to scratch that screen, and you might as well not skimp on protection when it's only about 10 bucks.

You should also get a case. I'm using the hybrid case that you can buy from nintendo, but I honestly cant recommend it, while it protects my switch in transit, and acts as a better kickstand, it is uncomfortable to play with in handheld mode, and is annoying to take off the switch to dock it. Also while you can charge the switch while it is inside the case, it is cumbersome. Most of the zippered pouch cases you see will do the job, bonus points if it is hardshell.

The kickstand is okay at best. It can be flimsy at times, and doesnt provide for multiple viewing angles. I recommend the hori stand, because you can play and charge (something you cant do with the default kickstand) and have multiple viewing angles.

Avoid cheepass(tm) charge cables. USB-C can be picky, and not all type-c cables are made equally. Just because it fits, doesn't mean that it is up to the same standard as what's in your box. Your best bet is to check reviews on these before you buy. If you just get the cheapest thing, you might not charge as fast as you should, or worse you can damage your switch.

As for games, You already got BotW and MK8D. If you need more to play, give Shovel Knight a try, as well as Binding of Isaac and Graceful Explosion Machine. All the Neo Geo games are great. Snipperclips is great if you have friends to play it with, and if you have friends AND alcohol, 1,2 switch can be entertaining for a few hours.

It's the Hori Compact Play Stand. I have it too, it's very useful.

u/SirDinkus · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

In the gallery I make sure it's clear you need either a skin or hard case on your Switch to do this (unless you don't care about sticking something directly to your system). But you're right, I did forget that you can't dock it with a steelie on. I haven't docked my switch once since I got it, and I just recently ordered a better docking solution. Check this out if you're interested. But to answer your question, the steelie mount is a little over a inch squared. Basically a little larger than a marble. Even compared to the official Compact Playstand the Steelie is tiny.

u/Morrow28 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I take my switch with me a lot, so my favorite accessory is my backpack. I have one of these:

It has specific pouches for everything. Multiple Joycon Controllers, your pro controller, your switch itself, your power cord and hdmi cord, your dock, your headphones, little zipper pouches for your games. Instead of putting my switch in the switch pocket, I leave it in my hard case, and I put a portible stand in the switch pocket.

Other accessories I enjoy:

-Pro controller for more comfort in docked mode, or for better control in fortnite and other multiplayer shooters.

-Portible stand for better tabletop play. The switch has a kickstand, but it can start to lose support and stop working, but it also is low to the table, only has 1 angle, and you can't charge your system while using the kickstand. I have this one:

-USB to usb-c converter. This is only if you have a wired controller like me. I like to play fortnite from time to time on my break, and I use my controller. But since it's wired, I bought the converter and I can plug it into my switch while I'm away from my dock. But it you get him wireless this won't be necessary.

-Screen protector. For obvious reasons 😁. Preferably a tempered glass one, not plastic.

-Car charger

-Carrying case. I prefer the medium thickness. Usually they're themed, I have a blue Zelda one. Hard shell is better, but usually not themed and is plain. I don't like soft cases at all.

Accessories I don't have but thought about buying:

-Dock Sock. Some people have had their system scratched by the dock, or have had someone else scratch it while docking it. The dock has hard plastic inside of it for some reason, and it can come into contact with the switch and scratch it if your not careful. The dock sock just adds a layer of cloth between the hard plastic and your screen. Not necessary, but can help, and you can find a ton of cool designs on etsy and other sites.

-Dock light. Can't be used with dock sock. Just makes the outside of your dock look cool.

-Better grip for handheld mode. A lot of people like them, I just didn't get one because it doesn't fit in my case and I'm too lazy to attach and separate them every time.

-Switch decals. Make your switch look cooler. I'd only buy from Nintendo as some 3rd party ones werent made correctly and fried people's systems.

-Replacement faceplates. Like decals, but it's completely new plastic casing. Some are awesome, like the ond school nes look or Gameboy crystal purple. They can be a pain to install though, and may void warranty (I don't know for sure, just a guess).

Games I like:

-Zelda Breath of the Wild
-Stardew Valley (Now has multiplayer but I think online only, not split screen, could be wrong though)
-Hollow Knight

Solo I haven't bought but heard are good:

-Dark Souls
-Binding of Issac

Solo or Split Screen Co-op:

-Snipper Clips
-Mario (Really any of them, though odyssey is less fun for player 2 as you just play as the hat)
-Pokemon Let's Go

Solo or SS Co-op I don't have but heard are good:

-Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time
-Splatoon 2
-Boxboy Boxgirl

I'd also suggest you get him Nintendo online. It's free for a year if you have Amazon prime, or $20 a year if you don't. You can't play online multiplayer without it. You also get to download an app on your switch that has a bunch of old school games on it like super Mario, super Mario 2, super Mario 3, Dr. Mario, legend of link, legend of zelda, and a bunch of others. All of them are free as long as you have Nintendo online, and they add new games every month I think.

Long read, but hopefully it helps! Your giving him a gift he can enjoy for a long time, and there is so much to play on this system it's crazy. There are a ton of cheap indy games as well. So you could always just get him a Nintendo Eshop card and let him buy whatever looks good to him if you want. Tons of stuff $20 and lower, and there is always a ton on sale.

u/Npakaderm · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The kickstand is nearly useless but there's a very inexpensive accessory that addresses the issue you mentioned and gives you some more flexibility to get the switch up at a better angle for your neck/back anyway. I am sure you're aware of this, and this doesn't invalidate your criticism but I think the kickstand was likely kind of an afterthought and it's nice to have in a pinch. Amazon link to item

Nintendo is exceptionally good at getting people to buy extras for their consoles, whether first party or third party. I have a closet full of random plastic holders for Wii controllers that were arguably completely unnecessary but for some reason I thought playing Wii Sports with a fake tennis racket was more fun. Not to mention the earlier gameboys, I had so much shit strapped to my OG gameboy that Nintendo arguably could have built into the device (light, better speakers, battery packs, etc) too. This is how Nintendo has always done it.

Edit: forgot to link to the accessory I bought to address the kickstand issue. Added.

Copy pasted from the project site...

Q: What is this?

A: A side project that I've been working on since March 2018. You can think of it as a Twitch Plays Switch with some nifty features.

Q: Why did you make this?

A: I was bored. Also, I wanted an easy way to use OpenCV to control the Switch, like this guy.

Q: How does it work?

A: At its core, it takes input either from a locally connected controller or via network and relays it to a Nintendo Switch over USB. I used this project and this project as a base and grafted on everything else. Frankly, very little of the original projects remain.

Currently, I've used the network support to add input support for Twitch/Mixer chat and for a webpage where players can control the Switch via a gamepad.

I'll be writing up more documentation on the workings of this project at a later date.

Q: How does gamepad support work?

A: Plug in a controller into your computer, go to the gamepad control page, press a button to activate it, and you're set! You can request a turn by clicking on the controller image. Each turn lasts 20 seconds unless you are the only person waiting for a turn, in which case you will keep your turn after 20 seconds until someone else requests one. Note that chat can and will mess with your inputs!

Q: How does chat work:

A: Works like you'd expect it to. You can also press buttons simultaneously instead of just one after another. Read the project site for more details.

Q: What makes this better than \<insert other implementation here\>?

A: There are a lot of modifications I've made to mine that aren't present in other versions.

  • User friendly, minimal config desktop software.
  • I've modified the controller to appear as an officially licensed Nintendo Switch HORIPAD instead of a hacked Pokken Tournament Pad like other implementations. There's no change in features, but the hardware emulation is much more accurate.
  • In case the desktop software crashes, the Switch turns off, or the hardware is disconnected, the hardware can recover by simply using the software to reconnect. A sync protocol is in place that brings the hardware into a known state.
  • The hardware's firmware buffers an input frame and checks it for data integrity via a fast algorithm before sending it to the Switch, so a crash will never cause random buttons to be pressed. Other implementations naively trust the input sent by the software and are susceptible to this problem.
  • Input packets are synchronized to the Switch's poll rate in hardware. All commands are mapped to one or more input packets with a certain number of wait frames before the next input packet is processed, so this is as close to TAS as you can get. Most other implementations do not do this and rely on hacks like sleeping for 100ms on the computer side, which can cause variable latency (OS timers are not guaranteed to be accurate) and desyncs for TAS.
  • Easier debugging. I've written some code that stubs out the firmware's AVR-specific calls and replaces them with implementations that allow the firmware to be run on desktop. When used in conjunction with something like socat, developers can quickly test out changes to the firmware without having to reflash the hardware.
  • Other implementations usually only support one input source. By using a TCP server, input commands can be sent from many different clients or feeder sources. This also makes testing very easy since all that is needed to send test inputs is something like netcat.
  • As far as I know, no other "Twitch Plays" project has ever allowed users to use controllers.
  • Chat commands and modifications to gamepad support can be added/modified while the project is running and can be modified in most cases without ever touching code!

congratz dude!

I highly recommend a tempered glass screen protector as well! Someone already linked the screen protector from amFilm,it's the one I use as well and it's really great!

There have been some reports that people got their screens scratched by simply getting the Switch out of its dock. So having a screen protector should be your number one priority.

Honestly, you don't need anything else, at least not right now.

If you do feel like you'll often take the switch with you when you head out then by all means get a travel case as well. Hold off on getting any extra joycon or pro controller. Both aren't exactly cheap, I'd hold off on them unless you really need them.

And just for your interest, the switch is not region locked.

Which means, if you want to buy anything from the nintendo e-shop then check out this site beforehand.

This site compares all the prices for a title through all the different e-shops.

You can simply go on the nintendo website and change your country in the websites settings. Then you have to re-log into your nintendo account on your switch and then you can proceed to directly buy the game through the other nations e-shop.

I've gotten several games for super cheap that way.

u/Lazarus1209 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Really it's dealer's choice. IT would more depend on what kind of protection you're looking for. If you're worried about it getting tossed around, then either a soft or hard case would work. If you're more specifically worried about it getting crushed (sat on) or suffer through high impact treatment (thrown, smashed, etc.) then I would recommend a hard case as the design is more appropriate for those situations.

The one you have is one that I would use if I was simply transporting the system with me. It works for portability and to ensure it doesn't get scratched or suffer from light fall damage. The harder shell ones would be better if it's always going to be with you, and if it's going to be in a bag or back pack that is thrown around.

What I would really recommend in either event is a tempered glass protector like this. That will ensure you don't get scratches if you drop it or from the dock itself (there have been some reports of scratches from being docked/un-docked) and you can hardly tell it's there. Good luck to you, either way!

u/-MarisaTheCube- · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Congrats on getting a Switch! I'd just make sure you get a screen protector ASAP as the plastic screen is highly prone to scratches. I recommend the amFilm tempered glass protector. Other than that, enjoy yourself.

u/CeaselessIntoThePast · 4 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating
u/AetherMcLoud · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get a glass screen protector. They cost like 5-10 bucks and you'll never have a single scratch on your switch display.

This is the one I use, works perfectly with touchscreen:

u/DoombotBL · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Get an SD card, something with data transfer speeds of 80MB/s or better. I recommend at least 128GB if you plan on buying digital moderately, and 200GB if you want to go mostly digital. You can find great deals posted here and on the Nintendo Switch deals subreddit of which I forgot the exact name of. Something like /r/SwitchDeals or something like that.

I would recommend a pro controller as well if you have it in your budget, I have been playing with the Joycons this whole time but I'm starting to feel their limitations for Mario Odyssey. Their tiny joysticks and limited range of motion kind of hurt for precise movements in the game. I played BotW just fine with the Joycons though.

Get a screen protector of some kind because the screen is an easily scratched plastic, not glass. It is more resistant to shattering and less brittle but it can get scratched quite easily. I recommend these:;amp;psc=1

HORI officially licensed plastic scratch protector is cheap and effective (the one I'm using right now). Just make sure you apply it properly and remove the bubbles as instructed. Then THIS IS IMPORTANT allow the screen to cure for 24 hours before playing the Switch in docked mode so that the glue can bond solidly. If you play it docked right after application the glue will heat up with the console and become undone and develop bubbles.

Also this:;amp;psc=1

Tempered glass is a very popular protection option, as it offers the scratch protection of hard glass that the Switch doesn't come with. It even comes with 2 in case the first one shatters in a drop. This is the go to solution for most because it looks great and feels good to the touch while offering superior protection.

Be careful with the Joycon button extender and wrist strap attachment, lots of people put them on wrong early in the Switch's life and didn't know how to remove them as well. There are instructions on how to put them on and remove them on Nintendo's Youtube page. I personally don't use them at all to avoid the hassle.

Be aware the the Switch uses USB-C form factor for all connectivity directly to the console. That means if you want to charge it on the go you need to take that into account. Make sure you buy quality USB-C cables/extensions/adapters as well because a poorly made one could damage the Switch. Benson Leung has information on good USB-C accessories. The Anker Powercore 26800 is a great portable recharging solution to, if you wanna game on the go for long periods and don't have anything to plug into on the way.

Enjoy the Switch and the games! Hope you get lots of fun times out of it.

I'm probably gonna get this as my "all my crap" bag:;amp;ie=UTF8&qid=1486192302&sr=1-2&keywords=nintendo+switch+rds

It looks like a nice, compact size with nice little compartments for stuff and cart/sd cases. I'm not sure what the inside of the backpack looks like yet, but I'm wary of all my things flying around everywhere.

But for when I don't want all my crap, I like this small Surge case, for when I go to work and stuff.

  1. if buying in store, watch an unbox video then when buying it check the console in-store to make sure everything looks alright. Just in case, due to the fact that the boxes are not sealed (unless that's changed).

  2. As said, set up the account, update, download the game if digital, etc.

  3. Screen protector and case are always good. Case wise you have ones like this, this, or this.
u/-BreakingPoint0 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Glass Screen protector. You can get a set of 2 for about $8 on Amazon. This is the one I got and it's fine:;amp;psc=1

  2. Lots of different cases and opinions on them. Personally I use a Butterfox:;amp;psc=1

I like it a lot. If you want to carry the dock and what not there are other options. Personally I use that and another larger case to carry the dock, charger, shell for the Joy-Cons and two Joy-Con handle cases

Beyond that it's all personal preference. If you go handheld all the time you might want to look at the Skull & Co:;amp;qid=1519056026&sr=8-5
I don't personally have it but I have only heard good things by those that have it.

  • Screen Protector. I suggest a tempered glass screen protector
  • SD Card. Dpending on how committed you are to digital vs. physical, a 64gb or 128gb should hold you over. Wait for them to go on sale, they go on sale pretty often.
  • Carrying case. I recommend the ButterFox carrying cases, they come in different sizes so pick one that suits you.
  • A stand. By stand I mean something that will hold your Switch and provide access to the USB port for charging. Some recommend the Hori play stand, for me that's a bit too bulky and went with one meant for cellphones, works wonders.
  • Portable battery pack, look for ones with at least 2.1A output to sustain gameplay when charging.
  • Pro controller, it's essential on most games, literally night and day from the joy cons. I suggest getting the Xenoblade version because it has an updated D-Pad that the original has.
  • Another dock, theres a lot of controversy here. There are 3rd party options out there they have been noted as dangerous to your Switch and may brick it and render it useless. From my experience, I've had great success with the Nyko dock and the Best Buy Insignia dock, use these at your own risk. You could play it safe and buy another official Nintendo dock. it's not as cheap however.

Links for all the items I got for your reference:

Buy this the same day as your switch: Put it on ASAP.

Then get a SD card ASAP.

Then get a carrying case ASAP.

u/ectra040 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Not needed, but everyone will advise you to get one. This is the best one according to most

u/cavedweller333 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

For screen protectors, I highly recommend amFilm it is currently on sale for $9, normally about 30, comes in a pack of two.

It is fairly high quality.

I wouldn't get switch brand micro sd cards as they are much more expensive, the minimum I would get is 64 Gb.

I would get stardew valley for your daughter and maybe shovel knight for your son, I don't know if these have physical options or are just digital.

Mario kart 8 deluxe might also be good but it would be best to get two copies.

Most games require multiple copies for multiplayer on multiple systems, but the switch has local connection built in so you can play without an internet connection.

Those are both mentioned by OP, the RDS cases in Black and Link-Gray.

u/Treadwell_CRB · 4 pointsr/nintendo

I ordered the RDS travel case:

The reason is simple. I travel quite a bit for work. I am going to toss this in my backpack and slog it thru the airport. It seems to be a little thicker and provide a little more protection than other ones.

And it looks nice.

u/MEANL3R · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

To add, I really like my case: Amazon link. Its pretty sturdy and holds a few physical games. I think I picked mine up from Walmart for like $20.

The official(?) case is good. It has a Mario themed design. It has fabric slots to hold 14 games. Holds a Switch with Joycon attached and it has a pouch for accessories, would definitely fit your 2 extra Joycon. $15 on Amazon.;amp;ie=UTF8&qid=1494561895&sr=1-11&keywords=switch+case

I decided to go with Xbox One S + Switch this generation and I'm very happy with my decision. As others have mentioned, the Pro controller and an SD card would be useful additions.
I carry my Switch with the PDP Backpack which has enough room to carry my Switch, 3DS and Vita.

u/robeschi · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This site is a great read for chargers, power banks, cables, and has a few gift/traveling guides that you might find useful.

I love the Pro Controller (you may need two, I have a feeling you and your wife will fight over it.)

I don't know if it's to everyone's liking, but I find Diablo 3 an absolute blast and you can do local co-op docked or undocked with 4 people (each person can use 1 joycon, 2 joycons [one in each hand or both in a holder], or a different controller altogether.)

This is the tempered glass screen protector that is most often recommended on this sub. I like these Joy-Con holders - they make the Joy-Cons feel more like full-sized controllers and you can charge them right in the holder. You might want to get a bag to carry everything around in easily.

Good case for Nyko Docking Kit?

I have the $20 Switch Deluxe carrying case I'm very happy with it, and the material. It's very durable.

It's just not deep enough. I'm wanting something that I can use to carry the Switch, 2 extra joycons + straps, Nyko dock, charger, and hdmi cable. I don't want that bigger suitcase of a case that is meant for the standard dock.

Anyone have an suggestions?

u/IwataFan · 3 pointsr/nintendo

With screen protectors you really want to go with tempered glass. Starter kits are a nice deal, but you do get what you pay for when it comes to screen protectors; such is life.

For a screen protector, I along with the rest of Reddit it seems have settled upon this screen protector as being the absolute best. I even had Best Buy Geek Squad install it to virtually guarantee proper installation, and it looks absolutely fantastic. I had the chance to play for a few weeks without it and personally think it actually makes the screen look better.

For a case I would go the RDS Industries route and get either this or even this larger case that can fit all the related Switch accessories.

u/OedipusR3x · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The RDS Industries case seems to be a favorite. Comes with little plastic cases that hold the games and micro SD cards. Also more form fitting for the switch than most cases.

u/XachAttach · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I love this one.

Very small and compact so either good or bad depending on what you want. This cannot hold the dock, AC adapter, etc...but holds the console+joycons perfectly with room for eight cartridge games. Also has a mesh pouch I put the joycon straps in. Perfect for light travel. But, the semi hardshell case and nice, thick zipper feels very protective and high quality.

u/parad0xchild · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you're saying 2 pairs of joycons (2 left, 2 right) - the Nintendo travelers case works. This one

You just put 1 pair (with straps attached) in the left/right spot, with the pouch between them, then put the console in the other side (screen facing inwards of the case). Put the other 2 straps in the little bag.

u/Shanoga · 3 pointsr/SFGiants

u/RetroGamer9 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Hori is making a stand that allows charging while playing, but obviously it's something else to carry around if you're looking for absolute portability.;amp;ie=UTF8&qid=1484530248&sr=1-3&keywords=Hori+nintendo+switch

u/GrumpyM · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'd really recommend the stand. Since the charge port is on the bottom, it's hard to play with the controllers detached without the stand. I do this all the time in hotels, airplanes, etc etc etc. The stand fits right into my case.

u/JoshuaJSlone · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

HORI's stand is a cheap and popular option. I've got one and it's pretty nice. It even folds up small enough I can fit it in my Switch case.

u/StimulatorCam · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The screen protectors and case are good. He won't need an sd card right off the bat if you're buying the games on cartridge, so you can always hold off on that. The system comes with a dock, so you don't really need another. The Joy-Cons charge while the system is docked so you don't really need a separate charger for them either.

The only other accessory that I have that is pretty nice is this stand.

u/CaptT60 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It is great in handheld and table top mode. I use it all the time on plane trips with no internet access.

If you decide you want to play table top mode and charge you may want to look into either;amp;psc=1

I have this case to store it and it doubles as a stand. I cut the straps as they were a pain.;amp;th=1

As others have mentioned the suspend when going to the home screen is a nice feature.

u/jaychan2015 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Sorry when I meant dock mode, my idea was that you place the switch into the case directly connected to the USB c for convenient charging

When you are on the plane you can adjust the case similar to the hori play stand for table top playing but still charging , there will be no second screen or dock

This is just wishful thinking, would be a great concept though

u/pete245 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Probably the best thing to buy is a tempered glass screen protector to make sure you get no scratches at all. I think that's the only must have thing.

Asides from that you can get a carrying case, stand like this or something like this and portable charger (if you're taking it on the go).

From reading a lot of experiences, even if you intend for it to be mainly docked some people found themselves gravitating towards handheld mode just because of how easy it is. So even if these aren't must buys for you it's something to keep in mind if you find yourself using handheld mode a lot.

Otherwise the only other thing you might get for couch co-op is a pro-controller. If you're going to be doing 2 player especially with mario kart, need a 2nd controller and you know a traditional controller never hurts when playing zelda!

Also definitely buy snipperclips, from personal experience that's just hours of fun to play especially with your SO.

u/BigBoswell · 3 pointsr/gaming

This stand is compact, sturdy, and allows you to charge while playing.

HORI Compact Playstand for Nintendo Switch Officially Licensed by Nintendo

u/Nope1252 · 3 pointsr/Xenoblade_Chronicles

If you're strictly just looking to pouch spam and AFK farm core crystals, buy this and watch this and this.

If you still want to emulate and automate inputs for whatever reason, the Switch supports USB peripherals. If you want to use a controller, use a GC adapter and solder an Arduino to a GCC board (or splice the wires) and run macros off of it. Otherwise you could just spoof an HID using your preferred microcontroller. Spoofing joy-cons sounds like a lot more work.

There's a surprisingly detailed tutorial by Hax$ and WatchingTime on how to install an Arduino Uno in a GCC here. The purpose is to help with advanced techniques in another game, but the script should help you get started.

Good luck.

The 8bitdo controllers are solid, I have been using this for indie games and retro stuff which makes up alot of my Switch Library:;qid=1562519790&s=gateway&sr=8-3

If you need a more modern controller for games just buy a wired Switch Controller. Personally I really like HORI's controllers and this one features a really good D-Pad:;qid=1562519863&s=gateway&sr=8-3

u/Blueowl789 · 3 pointsr/USF2

I imagine it is pretty rare to play with joycon....

I play with pro-controller, but that's not ideal either. I am very much looking forward to Hori Pro-Controller, which I think will be just right.

u/that_90s_guy · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Not OP, but I'm pretty confident he/she is talking about either the Hori wired switch pro controller, or the PowerA wired switch pro controller, since both of them cost about $25 USD, and they are both officially licensed by Nintendo.

However, I strongly recommend you reconsider if you'll be using them for Smash. I've used both of them at work, and honestly speaking...the quality is solid. Sure, they both feel light and cheap, but honestly speaking the finish is pretty darn good for the price. The only major quality con I see is they both have a fair share of hardware issues, with controllers that randomly stop working after some time, thus their low rating on Amazon despite high sales numbers.

The thing that will probably get you though is how bad the controls are for smash, and that if you're going for quality, you just wont beat the Pro Controller. I actually kinda went in depth about this in my other response to you as well above here, but basically, I'm pretty confident that had I bought these cheaper alternatives for Smash, and then tried the Pro Controller, I'd have regretted my decision horribly...

u/TheBeast1981 · 3 pointsr/Switch

Everyone is recommending to buy another set of joycons (about 70$), what about buying 3 or 4 wired horipad pro controllers (4x18=74$)?

That way you don't have to worry about batteries and they are more comfortable to hold than a small single joycon and are cheaper to replace if they get treated roughly from young kids.

u/CharlestonChewbacca · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I mean, between the PowerA controller and the Hori controller, there are already cheap alternatives.

That said; the Gamecube Controller adapter for Wii U is already compatible with the Switch. I wouldn't be surprised if they rebranded it as the Gamecube Controller Adapter for Switch and rereleased it alongside another series of Smash themed Gamecube controllers.

Honestly, my concern is a single-joycon focus affecting gameplay.

u/Oseirus · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

A few disclaimers:

I know I'm late to the punch, and I apologize. I also know I'm going to look like a crazy person for throwing so many items at you, so I apologize for that as well. I may also seem vaguely arrogant by the end of this, so please accept a third apology. I just like to take care of my electronics is all. My only credentials are anecdotal evidence that despite my rather rough job I've never even so much as cracked the screen on my cell phone so I like to think I'm pretty good at the "how do I prevent breakages" question.

Okay. So, I'm gonna rattle off a few items that I've bought for my own Switch, and my reasoning behind them. You DO NOT have to buy all of these items, but they are all useful on some level for the console.

The Joy-Con Controller If you're looking to get a second controller, start here. I'm sure you've figured out by now that one Joy-Con (JC) can be reconfigured to work as two controllers, so simply by buying a second JC you're now able to hit the 4-player local maximum for many of the Switch's games (including Mario Kart!). You can get the spouse, another kid, or even some friends playing during a party.

The Switch Pro Controller A more traditional-style controller. It's slightly cheaper and it's much more comfortable on large hands, but it CANNOT be split into two separate controllers like the Joy-Con can. Well, unless you get a saw or something but then it won't work at all anymore. Besides that it does function exactly the same as the standard JC controllers. There is also a wired version available that is even cheaper, but I personally have become spoiled in this wireless age and don't like cables dangling across my living room anymore.

Fitian Charging Dock for Joy-Cons Pretty self explanatory. Normally you charge your Joy-Cons by plugging them into the Switch, but if you have a second (or more) JC, it becomes a slight hassle to keep them all charged up. A charging dock can be a godsend. This is the one I use, simply plug it straight into your Switch Dock via USB.

FastSnail Joy-Con Grips There's a gazillion different versions of these things floating around, but these are the ones I personally use. I like them cause the shoulder L/R buttons are massive, and the grippy parts are really comfortable for extended use. Simply stick your Joy-Con halves into the plastic holders for a more comfortable grip. Holds them securely but they're still easy to pop back out as needed, no latches or screws or anything.

Orzly Carry Case ONE option for a carrying case. I was a little hesitant to recommend this particular item, but I may as well cause again, it's the one I use. The case itself is fine: durable, carries your Switch plus some games and accessories, and keeps them safe through your standards drops and bumps. However, if you fill it up as much as is shown in the pictures there on Amazon... At best you're gonna feel like you're mashing something, at worst you're gonna have trouble zipping it closed. What I've ended up doing is putting my Switch with an attached set of JCs, the games, and my adjustable stand (see next item) into the case, and then tossing the case plus whatever other particular accessories I need into my backpack. This case is NOT good to haul a lot of Switch stuff, JUST the console itself plus a handful of small bits for maybe a day trip or something. If you want to carry everything, look elsewhere. I've seen a few cases mentioned, but I can't recommend anything as I haven't tried anything.

Younik Compact Adjustable Stand I love this thing. If you're playing on the go and don't feel like holding it (and don't trust that stupid little kick stand on the back), you can unfold this thing and prop up the Switch on any flat surface for a much more comfortable viewing able. When you're done with it, you can fold it back flat and it fits nicely pretty much anywhere (like, for example, in the Orzly case I mentioned previously). Nintendo makes a first-party adjustable stand, but I actually like this one better. It costs a couple dollars less and feels sturdier. Its a luxury item to be sure, but it's nice to have when you want it.

Findway Protective Case A protective "jacket" for the Switch itself. I like this one because it snaps on and off of the Switch and JCs super easily, and is a sort of bendable plastic. Only 3 pieces: one for the tablet, and then one piece each for the left and right JCs. Easy to clean, too. Only drawback is that you HAVE to remove the jacket any time you want to dock the Switch in its charger. However, you're going to find that this is the case for any jacket that you want to buy for your Switch. You do NOT need to remove the jacket if you're simply sticking it in the aforementioned Adjustable Stand.

Pleson Tempered Glass Screen Protector Not much explanation needed here. I'm neurotic about getting screen protectors for all of my portable electronics, and I love the tempered glass ones. This one is cheap, it's durable, and it's easy to install with a steady hand. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend, even if only to keep your Switch looking nice through the wear and tear. You won't need to remove it for the dock, unlike the jacket.

I think that's everything for now. Again, I know it's a lot being thrown at you all at once, but you don't have to buy everything. This is all just stuff I've amassed for my own Switch that I've found useful or that I recommend. Pick and choose as you see fit. Feel free to shop around as well, these are just examples of all the particular items and there are MANY choices available for almost everything listed.

If you have any questions, I'm always happy to help.

I have the amFilm tempered glass screen protector on mine and I really like it. I was hesitant about a screen protector at first because I normally don't put them on my devices, but I can hardly even tell that this one is on my Switch. No issues with glare that I've noticed either, and it's usually <= $10. (And that comes with 2, in case you mess up or wanna give one to a friend)

I don't have a battery pack for it, but I've been looking into them for a buddy of mine who is going on a trip from the US to the UK in a few months. The one I've been really thinking about is the RAVPower 20100 . It's on the more expensive end (~$50) but it is compatible with the Switch and will charge it ~3-4 times and only takes 4-5 hours to recharge the power bank.

As for the case I got one at Toys R Us last summer for about $20 and it has been fine. It's got some padding to protect the screen, and has these little plastic cases that can hold like 3 games and an SD card each I think... It doesn't have a ton of storage space, but it works. It depends on how much you want to put in there, but you definitely want some inside padded layer that lays on top of the screen so that nothing you put in there will put too much pressure on there.

There are others like Jackbox Party 3 that you may want to get if you want a good party game.

I can't seem to find the Best Buy links now, but they will also probably be there too. All additional Joy-Con variations to purchase now are: Gray (2), Red (L) & Blue (R), Red (2), Blue (2), Gray (L), & Gray (R)

u/NMe84 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It would be if it were true:

Both colors are an option too, though they're in the opposite position from the ones you get with a red/blue Switch:

And considering pre-owned joy-cons cost $35 you're not saving that much money either...

u/Ragter · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Nintendo Switch - Joy-Con (L/R)-Neon Red/Neon Blue

They are opposite colors.

However I'm not sure if you can buy them individually so it can match the neon switch package.

To keep it brief; Nintendo Switch draws about 8.9W at most while gaming in portable mode. Also, the Switch can only draw up to 2A due to its design.

A USB-A adapter (along with a USB-A to USB-C cable) supplies up to 5V 1.5A (7.5W) which is insufficient to charge while playing intensive games. The cable you linked is a USB-A to C, so presumably you were using a USB-A adapter which only supplies 7.5W. The Switch can draw more than this while in portable mode, which explains why your battery was still being depleted.

A USB-C adapter (along with USB-C to USB-C cable) supplies up to 5V 2A (10W) which is enough to slowly charge while gaming. (1) (2)

A USB-C adapter that supports USB-PD can supply up to 18W (voltage and current can vary) which can quickly charge the Switch while gaming. (1) (2)

ohhh well its perfect to fast charge it handheld...

but i do recommend you the Official Nintendo Adapter if you are going to buy another one

u/MrrTimm · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

In that case get this Nintendo Switch AC Adapter

But if you get a dock, buy this to store everything together when you move it. Zadii Hard Carrying Case Compatible with Nintendo Switch System, Travel Case Fit Switch Pro Controller

Has room for everything stock plus extra pro or joycon controllers. I've flown with this.

u/OatmealDome · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The US Switch charger is multivoltage and multifrequency - it lists support for 240V at 50Hz. It will work fine with an adapter.

u/baconmastah · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It applies across the board really. For the past couple of years, we used to fear noncompliant USB-C to USB-A cables. USB-C to USB-C cables were usually fine. But a noncompliant device overdrawing by as much as 300%? I'll be picking up another OEM Nintendo charger. $25 is a small price to pay to protect a device that's now out of warranty.

u/barakrl · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

According to amazon it’s 110-240V, but I don’t have a charger to verify this.

u/deepfriedasian · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Not sure if there's one available on Amazon Germany, but I'm going for this tempered glass screen protector:
(This particular manufacturer has had extremely mixed reviews on Amazon for their other screen protectors, so buy with caution)

My reasoning is that since the switch will be a portable console with a non-clamshell design, there will always be a risk of it falling on its face, whether it's butter fingers, someone knocking it over while on a table, or just plain clumsiness.

With tempered glass, the screen protector absorbs all the damage, and it's the only thing that gets cracked. I have a tempered glass protector on my phone, and it's great. Though I can't say I've experienced it firsthand, I've had a ton of friends with tempered glass screen protectors who have dropped their phone and the screen protector was the only thing to crack, saving them a big repair bill. The only issue I can see with tempered glass is it is slightly thicker than most other screen protectors, but I think it's worth it.

TL;DR: Tempered glass because it'll crack instead of your screen if or when you drop your switch

u/Samphati · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Should I get the Orzly's tempered glass screen protector or the PDP Zelda Collector's Edition one?

I have a tempered glass screen protector for my phone and I really like it, plus it's a 2 pack so it's nice to have a spare.

On the other hand the Zelda set comes with some cool stuff, but only 1 plastic screen protector. I've never been able to apply a plastic screen protector without bubbles and if I couldn't apply it perfectly on the Switch I just wouldn't use it and it'd be a waste. It's also $10 more than the tempered glass pack.

There is;amp;qid=1484531087&sr=8-3-fkmr0&keywords=orly+nintendo+switch+tempered+glass

I thought about buying it but the shipping from the uk to the usa will take so long i will not have it until the system has been out for weeks. As much as i hate it i am going to use a plastic one for now because i want it on as soon as i open the box up. I also hope the screen on the system is glass i cant believe it will be plastic in this day and age but who knows will suck major if it is.

u/ghostnappa82 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yes, and I know that Amazon fucked up everything switch related, but Orzly claims to have shipped the package in mid march. It's now early may. Unless they sent some guy on a bike, there is no logical reason for it to have taken this long. Multiple reviews also say similar things, that the package shipped out mid March and never arrived. Also, just to add salt to the wound, they have the screen protector available with prime shipping yet they can't even get it out to people that preordered it ffs. As I said before, garbage company.

u/fLu_csgo · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

A good glass screen protector and carry case.

I cant reccomend these enough:

u/Marxally · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

When I have to take a lot of stuff with me, like the Switch, the 2DS, wallet and more; I usually carry it in my NES bag. For the Switch itself, I have a Orzly case, it's pretty good, I can fit my stick grids replacements, my SD card with the adapter, the Joy Cons wrist straps, my screen cleaner cloth and my earbuds; basically all I need and use.

Works well for the money with some storage for accessories.

I wanted an extra official Power cable anyways (~$25) so i got this and intend to convert it to a Portable Dock with one of these

Feel much better gutting a dock if i have a backup already. Would hate to have to drop $70-90 just to get another dock if i screwed something up.

u/fictitiousacct · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Outside of having a dedicated switch bag, there's also the option of replacing the dock case. It uses the exact Nintendo components and just repackages it to something smaller. Of course, you'd need to be okay with opening your dock and removing the parts to do so.

u/Doedel51 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you want something more compact, there is this solution:

You would have to buy this + an official Nintendo dock and then sort of build it yourself.

u/longviewite · 3 pointsr/Switch

Stick with the dock and power cord that came with your switch. If you are at all handy, you can get a replacement shell that you can carefully remove the guts of the original and replace.

u/avilash · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Good luck. The currently state of things is that most people avoid any 3rd party docks like the plague since Nintendo didn't follow the USB 3.1 standard exactly, and because of this it was not an uncommon occurrence for a 3rd party dock to end up frying the Nintendo Switch.

Your best bet would be to get an official Nintendo Switch dock, disassemble to remove all plastic so that you have just the circuit board, and put that board into a more portable form factor. Something like:

EDIT:I did purchase Best Buy's Isginia third party dock and use it regularly. It does the job. I've used it for about 5 months now and my Switch is still working. You do occasionally have to completely unplug the thing to reset it, as it will occasionally not recognize the Switch is being docked. But since it is primarily for portability, it likely will be unplugged often anyway.

u/Nayrm79 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Do not under any circumstances buy 3rd party Switch docks. Buy one of these if you want a travel dock.

BASSTOP Portable Dock Replacement Case for Nintendo Switch (Only The case, You Have to DIY with The Circuit Board chip from The Original Dock) (Black)

You have to transfer internals from your Nintendo dock to the basstop. But you'll save yourself a bricked Switch.

u/jrbless · 3 pointsr/Switch

If vertical clearance is your problem, I have a suggestion. Get a BASSTOP Portable Dock Shell and transplant the "guts" of the normal dock into this shell. Much easier to get the Switch in and out this way when you have space considerations.

Since this approach uses the normal hardware of an official dock, you don't need to worry about it being 3rd party for bricking-type issues.

u/SleepyTexan · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

General consensus is don't bother, if you're willing to risk it the only thing I've seen on here and /r/NintendoSwitchDeals is gutting your current dock and adding it to here.

Again though, it's not recommended.

u/wouldnotjointhedance · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I highly recommend the Basstop Replacement

I've been using it for a couple years. You do have to dismantle an actual first party dock but I never had any regrets. I did need to look up a video on taking the dock apart (their video linked in their instructions sucks) but it only took about 10 minutes and they shipped it with the needed tools.

u/augowl_ · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

There is a conversion (link) that you can take the innards from a Nintendo first party dock and fill in the shell. It's more expensive, but the only 100% safe route to a portable dock.

I still haven't seen any brick reports from the Insignia dock either, but I can't recommend any third party dock anymore since it could potentially be brickable by a future update.

u/motorboat_mcgee · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I just went with this: BASSTOP Portable Nintendo Switch Dock Replacement Case ( Only the case, you have to DIY with the circuit board chip from the original dock ) (Black)

u/Akmantainman · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Consider purchasing this dock shell if you travel alot it's 100% worth it.

I travel 1-3 times a month for work here's my notes for Taking the switch...

Carry On

  1. Switch in Satisfye Grip Case (Highly reccomened if playing in portable mode alot) make sure you get the smaller case, the other one is huge.
  2. Metal Switch Stand, I like bring this because sometime I just down want to hold the thing during the flight or at the hotel
  3. Anker Power Bank and Cable
  4. Game Case. Alternatively, you can pack just a few in your case.

    Checked Bag
  5. Travel Dock
  6. HDMI Cabke
  7. Pro Controller
  8. Official Power Brick (maybe in carry in depending how long the flight is)

I also do alot of traveling to rural areas of Alaska so limited internet and very little to do most of the year. If I'm going anywhere for more than a 3 days I'll usually buy a new game or start over a game.
u/dungorthb · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I am using this one and I love it, no issues and I even leave it in plugged over night sometimes by accident and no issues.;amp;psc=1

Get this one because there's a different one that does not work with an ethernet adapter.

u/deraphus86 · 3 pointsr/PlaystationClassic

So was I when it started and it’s a lot easier now.

The hardest part is going to be finding a usb drive that’s compatible. You need a relatively low capacity drive to go in the 2nd player slot, the reason it needs to be a certain type is the power supply is very limited to the front so most won’t work. I believe there is a list online of ones that’ll work. Of you want to test one you already own then follow the guide till you get to test it and see, if nothing else it’s a good practice run for you.

If you want use of the 2nd player you’ll then need to install the custom kernel (all in the guide) and big an OTG adaptor. This also means you can buy a much bigger drive and upload more content.

This is the guide I used:

This is the OTG cable I bought

Zerone Right Left Angle Micro USB...

This is the wireless adapter I use for my PS4 controller (also works with Xbone)

8Bitdo Wireless Bluetooth Adapter...

And this is the drive I’m now using after setting up OTG

SanDisk SDCZ60-128G-B35 Cruzer...

These will give you an idea of expense, completely depending on how deep you want to go down the rabbit hole. You can just get yourself a working drive for the 2nd slot and play 1 player games no problem.

Completely up to you!

u/cjbeames · 3 pointsr/AndroidTV

Perhaps this 8Bitdo USB adapter?

u/copysonic · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I personally recommend the 8bitdo device because it doesn’t look as stupid as others. 8bitdo is also an amazing company.

u/Player8 · 3 pointsr/PS4

8bitdo adapter for the switch. Only works in the dock or with a usb c dongle. Like 20 bucks. I highly recommend it if you want a pro controller but don’t wanna shell out 70 bucks for it. I use my spare Xbox one controller on my switch so me and a friend can play Mario kart.

Only real downside is you can’t use the Xbox or PlayStation controller to turn the console on, so you either have to do it by hand or turn it on with the joycon then switch to the other controller.

u/GrapeSasquatch · 3 pointsr/Switch

They want you to buy the official Nintendo charging stand

u/neoslith · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
u/tavhun · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Okay, from experience (I have put this thing on a store shelf, an airplane desk, a work desk and a kitchen table) the kickstand is flimsy and very unbalanced, especially with the joycons attached. I suggest getting this product or something along the lines of it because boy does that thing FALL. I also recommend a travelling case that keeps your Switch and joycons (when attached) together in one piece. Any carrying case does this so you can pick whatever one you like and it will be fine. My one suggestion for cases is to pick a soft shell or hard, and avoid fabric at all costs. I had an incident where I was taking my Switch to work and the buttons/touch screen kept being pressed through the soft case, causing my Switch to overheat and stay on for a very long time. My battery was half way gone by the time I realized it. I highly advise not leaving anything loose in your backpack (minus the pro controllers, but even then I would put them in a small bag of some sort to make sure they don't get bumped), I can't even remember how many times people have mentioned to me that they have lost or broken something because it's loose.

u/merle_ · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yea, this is the one I was thinking of.

u/Brothell · 3 pointsr/Switch

Does someone have experience with this 8Bitdo dongle, it should allow you to use any remote controller, for example from PS4.

u/Preclude · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I used to be a big D-Pad guy and only moved to analog sticks for Smash Ultimate. My recommendation would be a Dualshock 3 (or 4 if you must) with the 8Bitdo Wireless Bluetooth Adapter
DS3 is still my preferred D-Pad.

u/blackicebaby · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

RDS Case is THE BEST. I have it and it's the best case for the Switch.

u/Sonic_13 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This one would probably be good for you. It has 5 different styles too.

u/Ryvaeus · 3 pointsr/NintendoPH

>TPU Cover:

That's pretty cool but I think I've seen it in Datablitz SM Megamall, weeks ago. Maybe it was a different brand, but I question the necessity of this considering you'll either be carrying the Switch in a travel case when it's out, or leaving it in its dock at home. And speaking of the dock, you'll have to remove the case every time you want to dock the Switch. Bit of a hassle if you plan on switching modes a lot.

>Messenger Bag (since I'm always moving weekly)

Datablitz carries this HORI travel bag for the Switch, which I bought for myself and it does a good job carrying the console, dock, HDMI cable, power adapter, and Joycon grip with extra Joycon attached. The dividers on the inside are modular and can be moved around to suit your packing style. It's about half the price of the messenger bag, and you can still stuff it into a backpack for portability (which is how I carry it around when I do need to bring everything, though that's only happened twice).

>Case (sana meron dito nito)

There are cases here though none that I've seen which have handles. This isn't an issue though if you've already got a bag or backpack to carry it in, which I highly recommend doing anyway; carrying a Nintendo-branded bag/case around, especially one tailor-fit for the Switch, is just begging to be stolen.

While I don't agree with the necessity of some of these accessories, my Switch use case may very well differ from yours (when you eventually do decide to get it). So if you still think those exact items are the ones you really need to get, then I'd suggest using a shipping forwarder like Jinio (Xend-owned), My-ShoppingBox (FICI-owned), or Shippingcart (LBC-owned) to receive and ship your orders directly to you. I've used all three and they're generally equally reliable.

u/Folknasty · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The RDS Industries case is the best bet for your money. They make two types, one for the handheld (with sticks), and one for the entire system.

Not sure if anyone caught the lower profile "Switch" version of the the RDS Deluxe Travel case towards the bottom right, but it looks sick. Saw the review of the Zelda version on Youtube, and it checks all of the boxes for me: Semi-hard case, trigger indentations, zipper pouch, padded screen cover, compact, fairly low profile. Was going to go with the Surge case, but the light grey exterior was a little blah imo. Here are the point of references:

u/vaughner · 3 pointsr/Switch

Not if you do it right.

Not sure if this is allowed but here is an Amazon link to the glass protector that I have.

It was easy to install. It came with all the necessary materials to ensure the screen is clean prior to installation. It also has two protectors in the pack so is a very nice deal.

Just take your time doing the installation. Make sure you follow the instructions. Like doing it in a bathroom after running the hot shower for a few minutes. The high humidity prevents dust from floating in the air as well.

If you're mostly going to be playing at home, I would HIGHLY suggest getting the Pro Controller. I know that is a tough money pill for your wallet to swallow, but it is worth every penny. It is ergonomically better than the Joy Con in the grip, and it will serve you well for long play sessions.

Also, even though you are mostly going to buy games physically, I recommend picking up a microSD card anyway for games that are only on the eShop and DLC. A 32GB or 64GB microSD card will be good for your needs.

As for game recommendations:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

  • Splatoon 2

  • Steamworld Dig 2 (currently eShop only)

  • Rocket League (currently eShop only)

  • DOOM

  • Skyrim (which releases this Friday)

    EDIT: Formatting.

EDIT 2: I personally don't use screen protectors, but others will recommend this to you
u/flameylamey · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The amfilm tempered glass one is most people's go-to, it's the one I used also. Link

Joycons are fine if you have no other option, but the control sticks feel a bit handheld-y for TV play sessions IMO. The pro controller is just super comfy and solid feeling in your hands.

Sometimes I start playing with joycons in the grip just to change things up (and partially because I feel guilty for neglecting them when I went and bought several extra sets of joycons, lol) but I always end up gravitating back to the pro controller before long.

It is really up to you to make the decision, I, myself, have young nephews, my mom ran a daycare for many years, and I started gaming from an early age. The Switch has parental control features that will help you out. Moderation will be key and tailoring their time towards their behavior is a good way to keep them behaving well. I think they can enjoy it at their age, but sharing and discipline will be key.

I'll go with accessories first, screen protector is no 1 buy for young kids and expensive products.;amp;ie=UTF8&qid=1511199334&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=switch+screen+protector&psc=1

A travel case and possible grips would also do you well. Other things like the wheel are more game dependent and preference dependent.

As for games, Mario Kart and Mario Odyssey are great choices right out of the gate. Cars 3 driven to win is also a competent racing game. Lego games are also good choices Here is a link to commonsensemedia, take it with a grain of salt and look more at the content than the suggested ages.

Hope some of this helps!

Edit: grammar and new link

I have this one, and its been to Jamaica and back without issue thus far. Mainly got it with the "always be prepared" mindset, but I love it. If you have other USB - C devices, you need to be sure not to charge the brick off of your device, because you can do that too ><;amp;psc=1

u/Slamdunkin48 · 3 pointsr/Switch

The switch definitely has the possibility for many accessories. I'll link all the stuff I've bought at the end because I would recommend all of them

There is built in storage but not enough. I will recommend any micro SD card that's either 64 or 128 gb depending on how many games you plan on downloading. If you're going mostly mobile eshop games would definitely be more convenient.

As for other items, I love my pro controller but its not a necessity. I also only use it at home so it might not be for you.

You need a case for it, no two ways about it. The good news is that they are pretty cheap. There's cases that just carry the console, that carry the console and some extras, and that carry pretty much everything you could want to carry. Unless you're taking the dock often, I would just suggest a case with some extra storage.

I'd suggest a battery bank. There are a million options out there, and most of it has to do with cost. Just buy a size you like from a trusted brand like anker, ravpower, or aukey.

You also need a screen protector, because the plastic screen is not exactly durable. Anything works, but I would recommend tempered glass.

u/forestminish · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It’s really honestly recommended to use one. If your Switch gets scratched or scuffed over the years, you’ll be SO glad it’s on a protector and not the actual screen.

I promise the tempered glass ones are super easy to put on and they are made to not bubble easily. They are only about $8 and it’s a very worthwhile investment. It comes off pretty easily so even if you did mess up, you can take it off without ruining your screen.

You could probably even buy one at Best Buy or another tech store and ask someone there to help you put it on if you didn’t want to do it yourself.

u/IrishHog09 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I’ve bought two of these, one for my original Switch, and another for the V2 I just got. I love them.

As for the Pro Controller it's had mixed feelings, personally I love it but some people don't. There is a problem though with the D-Pad currently where it sometimes registers extra input, like left or right when pressing up so I'd suggest to hold over just a bit until a new wave comes out with the fixed issue

u/jodic100 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I picked this screen protector up on launch day, and its been fantastic since day one. Super cheap, easy to put on, and comes with 2 in the pack. I think alot of people went with this one since it was the first tempered glass one i remembered seeing when the Switch launched.

As for cases, there are a TON of them, i ended up just going with this sleeve just because it was the least bulky and easy to put in a pocket and take with me on my work commute... but again, check out Amazon, there are so many different variations, with different compartments, etc etc

u/alexj9626 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I havent see any Sapphire screen protector tbh. Maybe in the future.

The best one right now, hands down, is this one

I bought it and is the best you can get.

I’m not sure what you are looking for but make sure you get a tempered glass screen protector:

u/Teggert · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The screen is such soft plastic though, even something as dull as car keys will scratch it. Heck, mine had permanent scratches in the corners from the dock within the first week, and I thought I was being super careful as well. I mean it's only 8 bucks never to have to worry about it again.

u/TyMiles2012 · 3 pointsr/nintendo

amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack)

This one. I absolutely love it! One thing to mention though, the protector is a little thick. You'll feel the friction taking it in and out of the dock, but obviously plastic is MUCH softer than glass so it's not gonna scratch it. Really it just makes the switch fit snug. Though reviewers are saying it makes no difference, or they're getting friction as I am, so that probably shows how the docks have been made inconsistently. But like I said, the protector will keep the dock from scratching your screen anyway.

u/Stokes26 · 3 pointsr/Switch

This screen protector is probably the best I've used across any device and definitely the easiest I've ever installed.

If you plan on using it in handheld mode for long periods of time, you're going to want to get these grips + carrying case. Seriously, your hands will thank you. I use my Switch almost exclusively in handheld mode, and have absolutely no hand/finger fatigue during longer gaming sessions.

u/taegha · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

u/Skipspace · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

At the bare minimum, this screen protector .

After that it's more just preference. I'd recommend trying out the joycon grip before you immediately get a pro controller, as it's actually a lot more comfortable using the joy cons in the grip than I would have imagined. I haven't felt the need to get a pro controller just yet because of it.

u/Eurynom0s · 3 pointsr/LosAngeles

Let me offer up a personal experience here: do not even open the box unless you have a glass screen protector already on hand that you can apply IMMEDIATELY upon opening the box. People recommended this one to me.

The screen is plastic, not glass, and very easy to damage. If you're like me and buy a case but not a screen protector for your smartphone, you'd be very surprised at just how easy the screen is to damage. I got one dead-center in the middle of the screen that was just impossible to ignore after babying the thing (no docking, only playing in my bedroom, etc). I've seen other reports of similar gouges in the screen.

And I had to play hardball with Nintendo on "I'm going to return this to Amazon as defective" to get them to fix the screen for me. First they wanted me to pay $99...then $74...then $49...back and forth with me insisting that I was returning the device as defective until they finally gave me a "one time exception, it can't happen again" free repair.

I'd also put it on an Amex if you have one, since you get three months of purchase protection that includes accidental damage. There's some reports of the main unit being bendable after prolonged usage, so better to save the Amex claim for that should that problem affect you.

On a more positive note...while the price of the Pro controller is stupid, using a Pro controller to play the thing in portable mode is actually a pretty nice way to play. I think this is what I'd advise for a long flight, for instance.

[edit] There was a shortage of glass screen protectors right after launch. Major backorders. If I'd have ordered one, I'd have gotten it around the time I noticed the scratch.

u/jc9988 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You could try the official Nintendo carrying case that comes with a screen protector or if you just want a screen protector I would recommend you this one

u/EmperorSteve7 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I went for an anFilm 2 glass screen protector pack from Amazon. The one I use works great with no bubbles, and my only current worry is getting the screen dirty or fingersmudged. No scratch or visibility problems whatsoever.

Hey! Your friend is pretty lucky! Here's some of my recommendations:

  1. Only 1 version of the switch. Joy con come in different colors. No difference in performance. Just go for favorite color.

The most common combinations in box are the grey joy con and the neon blue and red joy con boxes.

  2. Typically there aren't any deals for the switch that I'm aware of but I did see another post where Toys R Us was listing 10% off for the switch as part of stores closing

  3. Get a screen protector. There's a cheaply priced one on amazon. I've copied the link Here. I'd also get a case for the switch. There's a list of cases that can be found on the wiki. Lastly, I highly recommend the pro controller. It's definitely not required but it has significantly improved my gaming experience.

u/MatNomis · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you're concerned about the screen at all--honestly, even if you're not--you should put a screen protector on it ASAP. This one is well-regarded: (amFilm tempered glass)

u/Heavenly_Hymns · 3 pointsr/consolerepair

I'm sorry about your screen, Friend. Maybe consider something like this for your next screen:

u/xooxanthellae · 3 pointsr/nintendo
u/e_x_i_t · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Not sure about the bending, but scratches can be caused when putting Switch back into the dock, depending on who you ask this is either user error or a "defect" in the dock. I got a small knick on the very edge of the screen border, but I blame myself since I likely mishandled it when putting it back the dock. Your best bet is to get a screen protector, regardless of how careful you may or may not claim to be, this one comes highly recommended and is what I ended up using.

  2. Not much is known about what Nintnedo is planning for their new online network for Switch, but Virtual Console as we know it is will be replaced by....something.

  3. If you're worried about memroy, Best Buy and a few other retailers have a 128gig Class 10 micro SD on sale for $30 on Black Friday. It's probably the best deal as of right now and should hold most people over for a while.

u/zmattk · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I agree with everyone else so far. The most important things are screen protector, micro SD card, and a carrying case.

But if you're looking for something a little more exciting, here's a list of the things I also recommend:

Portable Charger: You'll need one that has enough power to charge the Switch. Here's two that I have found work well. The Anker charger is significantly more expensive than the RAVPower, and neither are really cheap, but you'll get a lot of use out of it, and they can work for other electronic devices as well.

Portable Stand: The Switch's kickstand is pretty bad for tabletop mode. It's not adjustable and you cannot charge at the same time. Getting a portable stand fixes both of these problems. One like this is my personal favorite portable stand. You get more viewing angles than the plastic folding ones and you can use this with multiple devices as well. However, the Hori one or one similar to that works perfectly fine as well.

Pro Controller or Extra Joy Cons: Depends on your preference. I'd go with the Pro Controller if you're planning on playing mostly single player games. The extra set of Joy Cons are nice for multiplayer though as it allows 2 people to play with full controllers, or 4 people to play with a single joy con (aka Mario Kart).

If you go with the extra Joy Cons, I'd also suggest Joy Con Grips. While they might not look the best, it is a significant upgrade to holding the Joy Cons by themselves. They work perfectly fine for multiplayer Mario Kart.

The Lamicall Playstand is a nice stand and folds flat for travel. It adjusts to pretty much any angle and made from aluminum with rubber cushions to protect against scratches.

u/DualCay0te · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

So that was just a little project/hobby I was working on.

-I used a small 7 inch screen which I already owned. Only a resolution of 1024 x 600. But I wasn't going to buy a mini monitor with 720p native res just for this. It's this one.

-A multi-angle stand which I had previously bought for my Nintendo Switch. Link

-A cheapie 10000mAh powerbank with dual output charge for 5V, 2A (for the screen) and 5V, 1A (for the PS Classic).

-Velcro adhesive to easily attach and remove the screen, the PS Classic and the powerbank from the stand. The powerbank is attached at the back.

-Short (25cm) HDMI cable.

-Short (15cm) USB male to male cable for powering the monitor.

-Short (20cm) micro USB to USB power cable for the PS Classic. Previously this cable was used for my Chromecast device. But it works fine here.

An OTG adapter to plug into the power port of the PSC. And a 128GB USB drive plugged into the OTG adapter.

The PSC is running the latest AutoBleem build with a custom theme. I've upgraded the custom kernel to take advantage of OTG support. FYI, what "OTG" means here is that you can plug your OTG adapter into the rear of the console and connect your usb drive directly to the OTG adapter, thus freeing up the front controller ports and bypassing the power issues of the console.

You can get BotW for less if you just look. You need to understand pricing models. Nintendo does not charge you $60 for the game, the store does. Nintendo sells it to the store for $X and the store sells it for MSRP (suggested price that is). Many stores sell the games for less than $60 all the time.

BotW is currently $50 on Amazon, Walmart and Target. If you just look or be patient, you can get these games cheaper than $60 every day of the year.

Buy this even if you have an OG Switch. This thing is great. Can play with the charge cord in and it folds up to travel.

u/HorizonZeroD · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I personally like this one made by Lamicall because you can adjust to a much wider range of angles than the Genki stand and it has more clearance for the charging cable. And it folds completely flat which is good for storage. The only downside is that it can't accommodate the Genki bluetooth device because the two parts that support the switch from the bottom of the switch near the charging port are too close together to fit it between them.

u/Ario92 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I have a similar stand that I use for my switch and can confirm that it is a lifesaver. You can't really use tabletop mode without such a device as it allows you secure it on a surface (even something soft like a bed or sofa) and adjust the angle.

u/you_are_breathing · 2 pointsr/dialysis

Maybe offer those bendy arm cell phone holders for those of us who uses our phone. I have a folding cell phone holder that props my cell phone on the table, but when I lay down, I have a difficult time reaching my cell phone and keeping my left arm still.

I want to bring mine from home, but I doubt they would let me clamp it to the table (plus, I can't fit it in my bag).

I also play my Nintendo Switch during dialysis sessions (having a portable battery bank helps with the long Smash or city building sessions) but there's the same problem as my cell phone: bad visibility of my Switch.

u/auburrito · 2 pointsr/GirlGamers

display stand

I got the joycons and a rechargeable joycon grip from Target.

u/YagamiYakumo · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

From a practical point of view, there's not much reason to get this outside of brand loyalty and/or looks. There are cheaper alternatives with better portability and control over viewing angle adjustment, then if you want better "performance", there's the new Hori charging stand with USB hub instead. Of course I'm not going to complaint over having an additional option though. In fact, I would probably had purchased this myself if it was already on the market when I got my switch.

u/Voidblazer · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I picked up the Lamicall multi-angle stand. It's spectacular! I was using the kickstand, which was okay for a bit, but I'm tall and found myself slouching in my office chair. You can position the stand exactly where you need it, and it folds up to pocket-size too. Highly recommended!

u/laurab33 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I dont have answers for you but I'll be traveling from the US to Isreal soon so I'm interested as well.

I dobsuggest having a stand that you can adjust the angle on if you don't already, however. I have this one and it's great as it's foldable and has an opening to plug in the charger. It really makes it more comfortable to view without having to hold it in those airplane seats.

u/esaloch · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

They told me the same thing. When I asked why there are now two listings they said this (which still doesn't make much sense):

"I see that the item was started with the platform of the switch.
The Legend of Zelda is now made available with the other platforms and the newest of it is the Wii U.
Since the other series are made available with this platform, it was changed to the series of Breath of the Wild also.
You can see the details of it in the column of the "About the Product" below the picture of the item.
It is a Switch.;

I don't know how much you're hoping to spend on a new hobby, but video games can provide decades of entertainment. The barrier to entry can seem daunting, because some of those games are so complex and huge and confusing, but there are some very simple games among the variety. I agree with others in this thread who say Nintendo is the way to go for someone brand new to gaming. They cater to children first and foremost, so every game they make is designed to have intuitive controls that anyone can figure out regardless of prior gaming experience. That being said, they've made some of the most highly awarded games of the last few years, which are both accessible to new gamers and extremely fun and rewarding for adults. I've taken a moment to link some Nintendo stuff on Amazon that I think would be an excellent starting place. Also, getting into gaming is a brilliant way for older people to connect with their youngest family members in a natural, enthusiastic, and unforced way. They'll be able to give you tips, help you with hard levels, and just generally be interested in your hobby because it's something they already love.

Nintendo Switch Console on Amazon In order to play most video games, you'll need a console or a PC. This is the Nintendo console, and it is only compatible with Nintendo Switch games. Be careful you don't buy Nintendo Wii games or Nintendo 64 games, those are different consoles and they aren't compatible. Xbox and playstation games are also not going to work. This box is everything you need short of a TV and an internet connection to play the new Nintendo games.

Mario Kart on Amazon This game is as simple as it gets, and it's a timeless classic that has been remade half a dozen times. You hold one button to make your car go forward, and you steer left and right with the other hand on the joystick. It sounds simple, but there is a lot of fun to be had in this game. This is traditionally considered a good party game, so if you decide to pick up an extra controller or two down the road, you could invite people over to race against!

Super Mario on Amazon This game is a step up in difficulty for a new gamer, but still within reach and arguably one of the best games made in the last five years. You'll control Mario himself through different levels trying to... you guessed it... save the princess.

Zelda on Amazon This game is the most difficult game on the list, but is still easy enough to be the first game that many young people ever play. You'll control Link, the Hero of Time in a similar manner to how you would control Mario in the previous game, but you won't get simple levels. You'll get an entire world to explore, get lost in, and fight monsters in. There are more things to learn in this game than the other two, but remember, everything is designed so that a ten year old can learn it. And this game is widely regarded in the gaming community as the best game in one of the biggest franchises in all of gaming.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to hit me up. I think video games can be for everyone, if you just know where to start.

There's one one sketchy seller at about $45 with shipping. With tax on Splatoon, maybe $110 total.

u/Saxophobe · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yes, I can confirm that the Orzly case fits upto THREE SETS of extra joycons in the top pocket. (so four pairs total, if you count the two attached to your switch. The same guy I posted about that showed off the case has posted photos of it literally doing this....

Also, one other trick that I've found if you can't get them delivered to where you live is to try all the different amazons. (that's what I did). Sometimes takes just a bit of trial and error to see which ones will ship to you.

I've posted links to all the ones I've found for it on their main reddit thread. but in order to save you time having to sift through the whole thread, I'll post just the links to all the amazons I found them on for you here...

(some will, some won't, so just try a few and see which ones ship to you) But another tip is to always look for the ones that say "Fulfilled by Amazon" -The version that is from the suppliers themselves will often ship internationally if all else fails, but the Amazon fulfilled deliveries are definitely hands down the quickest if you can get one that will ship to you, so I'd recommend always trying the amazon route first).

hope this helps! ;)

You're definitely gonna need a screen protector and a dock sock. The switch will get scratched cuz the way designed, from putting it in and taking it out. And you'll want to get a type c charger so you can wall charge it in handheld mode. And this. this case is awesome. And definitely you'll want extra controllers.

u/markressler · 2 pointsr/argentina

u/Derpinator_PF · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is the case I'm currently looking at, but I'd like to get a second opinion before making the purchase. Is there a carrying case better than this while remaining in the same price range?

I usually move it with the dock, controllers, adapter, etc., but I'm only looking for a small case to protect the screen when I throw it in my backpack.

u/DontShootMeThanks · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I've got for the entire group and for just the switch.
They both work well.

u/Dcon6393 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I actually own this case, but this one looks exactly the same. So assuming that both cases are the same:

Its pretty sweet. It does the basics and thats all I really need for it. I would say the only negative is the game holders. They are a little tough to slide games into. But I have another case for games that I can just slide into the case anyway.

You can fit a good amount of joy cons in it, assuming that is what you would want to carry with it. If you are looking for something that can store a pro controller/the dock look elsewhere though.

You may want to be careful and do some research first. Rumors exist that the official Nintendo Dock is currently the only safe dock. Other alternatives are apparently bricking people's Switch consoles, even the Nyko one. I understand cost is always a factor but perhaps consider buying an official Nintendo Dock and swapping the guts into one of these. All together it's about $100 but there could also be upcoming deals for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Also remember, the Switch can be replaced but, as of right now.

The only surefire solution for now is to buy an official dock, and put its guts in a small case like this one:

It's pricey, but the only way to get a travel dock without risking a brick.

u/RavioliSpills · 2 pointsr/Switch

Dang that sucks man :/ maybe you could get a different type of dock?

This thing seems pretty rad, you do have to do a bit of fiddling with the old dock to get it to work.

This video explains it:

u/DeadLeftovers · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I received the TomToc Storage Case today and it’s great. I’m able to store my Switch, Joycon Grip, Power cable as well as the Nintendo Switch dock with it in the
Basstop Portable Dock Shell

You won’t be able to store an HDMI cable but that shouldn’t be an issue considering most people have a spare HDMI cable or a device that is already using one.

If you want to store a Switch Pro Controller the Butterfox Extra Large Case might be a better option however it won’t work as a stand.

u/banjoman05 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I bought a new dock shell kit from Amazon and swapped the original dock guts to it. All the benefits of a smaller third party dock with no chance of bricking because the dock hardware is original. The new dock is about the size of a pack of cards itself.

u/superwiifan · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you want a travel dock, the best way to do it imo is get a shell for a smaller dock from Amazon, and put your dock internals into it. It’s not difficult to do, it takes like 20-30 min, and you don’t have to worry about your Switch breaking from sketchy third party internals. I replaced mine a year and a half ago and it makes carrying the Switch w/ a dock much easier.

u/MattCz9 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You can get a shell of sorts where you can take the internals of an official Switch and put them into this smaller dock. Likely going to have to buy a second dock if you don't want to take apart your original one so it might not be that cheap, but I personally think it's a better option than buying a cheap third party dock only to have it brick your Switch.

u/Emuchu · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The official dock is "portable" in the sense that it's light and easy to move around, but it's also much larger than it needs to be and wouldn't fit into most Switch carry cases. The electronics component of the dock consists of a single board that's only about 2" x 2", so you can actually disassemble the official dock and stick all the guts into a smaller case such as this BASSTOP one on Amazon. This makes the dock small enough to stick into your pocket... or inside your switch case.

A dongle is another possible solution--and in fact they exist already, albeit in an unlicensed and may-brick-your-console kind of way, but the issue with both of these things is that Nintendo wants to cover the screen up while it's in docked mode. Personally, I went with the transplanted smaller dock, so that I could fit the Switch, dock, power adapter, and two extra Joycon into the same zippered Switch carry case.

u/SexlessNights · 2 pointsr/funny

Buy a smaller dock enclosure

u/MooKids · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If the dock still works, you could just buy a new aftermarket enclosure.

I just ordered this portable replacement case.;amp;psc=1

It is just a plastic shell, and it uses the Switch dock internals to function, so it really isn't a third party dock.

u/GaveUpMyGold · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is the one I used. It's just a smaller housing for the circuit board in the Switch dock, about the size of a deck of cards.

u/on8wingedangel · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

DON'T USE THIS, strong likelihood of bricking your Switch. Buy this instead and a spare first-party dock to transplant into it. I did it myself, it was pretty easy.

u/devious222 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It will not fit in the dock, but is very easy to remove and attach. I am debating if I should get switch dock extender cable from amazon.

u/GuiltyRaisin · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I made a Gamecube dock like this one.

I can't play in handheld mode without my Skull co gripcase and it was advertised to fit in docks, but some (like mine) don't.
But before I made the GC dock I used an extension with my case. Works as if it was docked normally.

u/PianoConcertoNo2 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Mine does but getting it to work is another story.

Just get a USBC hdmi extension from amazon. It’s a block connector that you put in the dock, with a long USBC cable running out of it. Mines been great.;amp;keywords=nintendo+switch+dock+extender&qid=1536061856&sprefix=switch+dock+ext&sr=8-3&ref=mp_s_a_1_3

u/danielfletcher · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Strips and chargers are minimal. But TV's create an RF field, plus you have that big metal back on them. So issues for Wifi and bluetooth. Even cordless phone base units can cause wifi interference.

I have my Switch dock tucked away, and I just have a decent USB-C extension cable running from it and I have a Lamicall multi-angle stand for when I want to run the Switch docked. It is a PITA to put a USB-C extension cable in though, so you could look into something like this:

u/naive-dragon · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Look into buying one of the Dock Extender cables. I use a Satisfye Grip myself, and after buying the dock extender I've never needed to take the grip off for docked gaming.

u/Mazzuolo · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It’s possible for any 3rd party dock to brick your Switch, so using any unofficial dock is not advised. Something you could use to keep the case on your Switch and still use the official dock is an extender like this.

u/Kraivyne · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

> shipping and tax) but shipping times are YMMV. I got mine in about 2 weeks, so you have to weigh out what's better. Personally, I would have gone with Amazon if it were available at the time.

I ordered one of these and just have it sitting next to the dock. It's not ideal but works!

u/ninusc92 · 2 pointsr/xboxone

true, tbh I stopped using my dock traditionally once I noticed it was leaving scuffs on the console from sliding in/out (mine is on a shelf, so I have to go in & out at an angle) so this solved that problem. I have a case and screen protector on it as well.

u/ThenThereWasReddit · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Samsung 2017 TV owner here. Bought an 8BitDo off amazon and plugged it into my TV and it works like a charm. I use my PS4 controller, but the pairing process is super easy and identical. I also used a male-to-female USB extension cable to let the 8BitDo hang down in an easily accessible area so I can re-pair my controller if I end up playing PS4 and then coming back.

Link to the exact one I bought:

Side note: Haven’t bothered to try and look into it, but when I end remote play, I get an odd green band across the bottom 1/16th of the screen. That goes away with a power cycle and I think is just some kind of odd artifact in the UI.

Absolutely! This is what I grabbed off Amazon for $20:

I haven't had any issues with it so far. Also you can only pair one controller to the dongle.

If anyone picks one up I'd update the firmware on it before using the dongle. It's a quick download and install that takes only a few minutes.

u/_softlite · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

DS4 work with the Switch in docked mode by plugging in an adapter to the dock, but I'm not sure which adapter you're referring to. If you already own the controller and adapter, you can test and find out. If not, I would recommend buying an adapter that's known to work, such as the 8Bitdo or Mayflash Magic-NS.

u/HayesCooper19 · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

I don't think a 7 year old would feel cramped on the joycons, but a pro controller is still a good investment. I'd also recommending checking this out as alternative that could save a few bucks if you have a bluetooth controller lying around or picked up a Wii U Pro controller super cheap.

u/grymmhain · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This would probably work similar to the USB adapter that was just released to let you pair other controllers. You’d have to set the pro controller settings to wired. And of course use it with the USB cable attached.

I'd expect Anker's stuff to work, considering that they make some good quality accessories. I will say that the power output of the USB port in a plane might not be that powerful so who knows if it will actually charge quickly.

Additionally, keep in mind that the USB-C port is on the bottom of the console, so it is blocked in tabletop mode. However, this accessory should help circumvent that:

Another alternative is that you can just play with it plugged in while in handheld mode.

The joycons are really not great for this game. The short throw of the sticks does not allow for very precise movements. A pro controller on a couch (if your TV has a game setting or low latency mode, most do) is the ideal way to play on switch. With that said, if you can't always take over the TV, a stand like [this](HORI Compact Playstand for Nintendo Switch Officially Licensed by Nintendo and a pro controller are immensely better than joycons in handheld mode.

Hey guys so with smash coming out it got me thinking about a portable setup. I have one of the hori playstands and love it and was thinking of getting a usb c to usb a adapter to plug a gamecube adapter into it in tabletop. Then I found a new hori playstand that has 2 usb ports and a charging passthrough.

I don't want to spend more on a new playstand and i like the height that i get from the one i have and started to search for a dongle that does the same thing. I found this that essentially does the same thing (usb a ports and a charging passthrough) and was wondering if it would work and not damage the switch. Understanding that switches have bricked in the past from using third party products through the usb c port would this be safe to use.

TL;DR I want to play smash in handheld and want to know if this dongle (no hdmi) would damage my switch

u/highway1027 · 2 pointsr/StardewValley

This is the one in the picture.. There's a black one, this red Mario version and a Zelda one.

u/OckhamsFolly · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'd personally stick with a basic case and get the Hori Compact Playstand. It would fit in the top pocket of my Butterfox with no problem, probably even with my 20100 mah battery and charge cord for the Switch (I could probably downsize on the cord a bit, it's the one that came with the pro controller).

If size was your absolute top concern, I might suggest a wallet case like his one. Won't be able to charge it while it's on the stand though, and I'd be worried about it in a tight backpack.

If an all-inclusive case/stand with charging capability is what you are after, your best bet probably is the Satisfye slim case AManCalledM recommended or something similar.

u/Reality_Gamer · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

u/BarnabyJones21 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If that's the case, using the Anker 10K should do just fine. I have this model and the battery will dip slightly when playing games, but it's like 1% every 30m or so. I haven't done legitimate calculations, but it's certainly worth bringing along when using the Switch away from home. Just don't forget to get a stand, since the cable runs through the bottom of the Switch. I really enjoy the one I bought; the cable can run right through a gap in the front and up to the Switch.

EDIT: Oh, and the cable that comes with the Anker 10K won't work on the Switch, so you'll need to buy a USB A to C cable.

The last thing I was going to buy for now was a screen protector, since i've heard they can get scratched easily when placing/removing the console from the dock, so I was thinking of buying this one. I also saw a Hori screen protector, but it has horrible reviews (Mostly complaining about it unsticking at the bottom of the switch because of the heat when being docked).

So, are these good choices or should I buy some other one instead?

Also, ill probably end up buying a controller, however, I find the pro controller to be too expensive, so I was thinking of buying the Hori one which is much more affordable, but is it any good? Are there any other good controllers? And I was looking at Hori stuff, so I stumbled upon the Playstand, and the game case. Are they worth buying?

Sorry if this comment is too big, im very hyped for the Switch, and I dont want to ruin my experience with bad accesories =)

EDIT: I forgot to ask, Is a big SD Card worth it? How much space would you recommend if it is?

[I recommend this stand to all new Switch users] (

Honestly it's what the Switch should have came with for an optional stand. There are 3 different positions you can adjust the stand. It allows you to charge while in handheld-mode. And its fairly portable when folded up.

Or you can get yourself a stand from Amazon

A stand is really useful for things like plane rides because they make the switch more stable than the kickstand, and you can charge the system while playing.;amp;qid=1511326691&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65

This isn't even the worst part of the dock and nobody seems to give a shit.

The thing is made of crappy plastic and offers no soft material to protect the screen against scratches.

The dock covers the entire screen on the switch while docked which is pretty dumb when you consider this problem. Yes, that's right, you have to buy this stupid-looking modified dock separately to charge the switch on a table at an angle.

It boggles my mind when I consider the design oversights this thing fell victim to. If you're gonna cover the goddamn screen in the dock, why not put the charging port on the top of the switch so that you can play with it on a table like many would want to? You'd have to insert the switch upside-down, but it wouldn't matter since Nintendo is assuming here that when the switch is docked it will only be used for external output gaming.

I read that if you use a USB-C adapter to USB-3.0, then you can plug the Ethernet adapter directly into the Switch in tablet mode.
I bought these a few days ago and can update you when they arrive (Amazon says they will arrive the 10th):

I like my Hori adjustable stand well enough; it sits high enough that it's comfortable playing while sitting at a table or something along those lines, and folds up and fits into my Switch carrying case.

I'm going to express a bit of an unpopular opinion too. I don't have any amibos, and I don't care about rumble, so, I bought the Hori Wired Controller ( when I bought the switch.

I've been totally thrilled with it while docked gaming (it can only really be used while docked, unlike the Pro) and the money I saved paid for another game.

It's unlikely that Nintendo will add this, but...maybe!

But, you can get this controller for about $15-$20 and it does 2 levels of turbo and works really nicely to be honest.

If you’re looking for a cheap controller with a modern layout, you could try the Wired Pro Controller for the Switch. Only drawback is the triggers are either pressed or not pressed.

Here you go!

Nintendo Switch HORIPAD Wired Controller Officially Licensed by Nintendo

Official third-party alternatives don't include gyro, rumble, or NFC. I doubt that's the reason. Regardless, I'm in the mindset of Wii U accessories never working on Switch, and that's fine.

Well, in theory it might be possible with a Turbo Controller for PS/XBox (Including fighting sticks) and a Brook Adapter, but I cannot test that because I don't have any Brook Adapter.

That would work pretty well with a Turbo Fighting Stick because while you cannot move, you could just leave a book on the L & R buttons and let it do the job since the post-game menu is defaulted on Rematch.

Good thing is, with the Brook Wii U Adapter update, we do somewhat have access to this option, although it is not for everybody. The HORIPad that comes out this month will have turbo functions and will be cheaper, but I don't know if said function is confirmed to work for triggers.

If you're feeling like building something, you could also do that with an Arduino and two synchronized motors, with a little thingie on each to press on the L & R Buttons. If you sync that, that would work too as it would simulate a turbo press on those buttons. The main problem is to sync the two presses as well as keep the Joy-Con or Pro-Con stable in this system. This kind of things has been seen with, for instance, Ditto Hunting in Pokémon Sun & Moon, so that wouldn't be such a new idea.

EDIT: Immediately realized it was wired. Still good controller, though.

Can anyone give me their opinions on the Horipad ? I only want it for whenever friends or family come over to my house so we can play MK8 and this is the cheapest option I've found. Oh, and since it is wired, is there anyway to use it in tabletop mode? Maybe with an adapter or something?
