If you dislike the taste, get some gel caps like these - just fill them up and swallow, no taste.
THEN have a nutella sandwich. Because that shit's delicious...

u/vedgehammer · 17 pointsr/vegan

First, sorry for your loss. Let her know that if she needs any advice or support in regards to the miscarriage there's resources at the Star Legacy Foundation.

Her therapist is correct -- Kind of. Omega-3 oils have some indication of increasing fertility but she doesn't need to eat fish. There's a vegan Omega-3 DHA supplement available.

Truthfully all vegans should supplement with this, it's under recommended.

u/SweetyTart · 16 pointsr/ExpectationVsReality

Everyone should have active charcoal for this very reason. As soon as you eat something questionable or raw like this, pop one or two and you don't have to worry about it anymore. If you take it within 30 minutes you should be ok... After that active charcoal probably won't work. Also works on pets that eat something they shouldn't. So take some random internet strangers advice and add it to your next Amazon purchase.

u/helswake · 15 pointsr/vegan

>omega-3 which can only come from fish

Long-chain omega3s (EPA and DHA) in fish comes from the algae they consume... you can get vegan algae-based EPA/DHA supplements. Short chain omega3, ALA, is found in many vegetables, and especially in flaxseed, chia seeds, hempseeds, and walnuts. Our body can convert ALA to EPA/DHA.

> we must not try to look, hypocrite, when pouring that follow your heart dressing on our salads.

Bad wording aside, FYH dressing is vegan, containing flaxseed-oil and hempseeds for it's omega3 content. Check the ingredients.

I’ve been taking this for maybe 2 years now, no complaints. Gives me orange flavored burps...a plus?

u/zeugma17 · 11 pointsr/ketodrunk

I use activated charcoal. Take about 4 pills just after you start drinking and then another 4 halfway through the night. I’ve never woken up with a hangover after taking it. Just be warned, if you drink enough that you puke, it’s going to be black, and your shit will be almost black for a couple of days.

> charcoal where it might actually cure something in a therapeutic dose?

First, charcoal does not 'cure' anything, it is sometimes used to bind poisons while they are still in the digestive tract. Second, the amount of activated charcoal in homeopathic medicines does not even come close to being a therapeutic dose, even pure activated charcoal 'supplements' do not even come close. The top hit on an amazon search have capsules with a paltry 560 milligrams, in a bottle of 100. In emergent poisonings the adult dose is 50 to 100 grams of activated charcoal, followed by 2 to 3 more doses of 25 to 50 grams each, you may use as much as 300 grams. The amount in homeopathic "medicines" is several orders of magnitude less than the therapeutic dose. A double of well aged bourbon probably has more charcoal than what you get from a homeopath.

Deva makes vegan DHA supplements, and it costs about $20 on Amazon for a 3 month supply. I just ordered them today so I don't know how well they'll work.

Make sure you try to do little brain exercises too. Supplements may help, but trying to improve your memory will take effort as well.

If someone has a better suggestion or more suggestions, I'm open to them. I also have an awful memory :(

u/Juno_Malone · 6 pointsr/hotsaucerecipes

By lactose, do you mean lactose sugar? Lactose sugar doesn't contain any live cultures (I mean there may be some dormant wild yeast/bacteria in there), so that's just going to add more food for whatever eventually takes hold of your ferment - wild yeast, Lactobacillus on the peppers, etc.

If you mean pitching Lactobacillus cultures, yes that would work and probably help a bit. Something like this would work well (it's what I use for kettle-souring beers), but a healthy ferment consists of several species of Lactobacillus, and you may get less than optimal results relying on a single strain. Some good literature on this available here, but doesn't appear to be full-text :(

Another solid option would be to pitch a little bit of brine from a previous ferment, especially kraut brine which will have a nice mix of all the good Lactobacillus spp.

Liquid whey should work too, but I've never tried it myself.

Okay, I've been product free in the bathroom for nearly a year now. Here's what i do!
I wash my hair with water first. Then if you are still oily scrub a bit with some Dr. Bronners castile soap. I also use Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar mixed 1/3 with distilled water. If I feel fancy I will steep some chamomile or other teas with the water for some added herbal goodness! The pungent scent of the ACV doesn't stick. So after you have dried off you won't smell terrible. Just search around on google and on r/naturalbeauty to find more information on all of this.

I brush with some baking soda from Mountain Rose Herbs and I sprinkle some Activated Charcoal on top of that. Oh and I use Tom's deodorant. Its the only antiperspirant that I've found that works for me. There are also organic options for perfume as well in roll on, spray, or bar scented oils.

Instead of using face cleansers/ pads I use something called the Oil Cleansing Method. It has done WONDERS for my acne. I used to be on on Accutane in high school and it hasn't really improved. You make an oil mixture and just rub it on your face for around 5 mins until you can feel the gunk coming out. Then set a warm, wet washcloth over your face until it cools. Wipe all of the oil off and your good to go! I used ACV afterwards if I need to tone my skin. You can also use this oil mixture as a moisturizer. Grapeseed is a great oil for this because when it dries it doesn't leave your skin looking oily. Essential oils are great for the OCM but not necessary. Tea tree is great with acne, I put a few drops in my palm with my oil before doing the OCM.

The best part about all of these items (ACV, Charcoal, etc) is that they can be used in many ways outside of the bathroom! Including cleaning and personal health.

Just check out r/naturalbeauty its more orientated towards women, but anyone looking to have a natural bathroom regimen could learn a thing or two. All of this sounds crazy to most people, I knowww. But if you have any questions just ask :)

I use Swanson L. Plantarum pills, 2 pills per gallon. Cheap and easy, works like a charm. Sours to my preference in ~18-24 hours. Lately, after having one batch go a bit too sour, I've been erring slightly on the side of undersouring, and finishing with a small dose of lactic acid to dial in that last bit of punch.

MCT Oil out of the budget? Here's the one I buy for $18.99 -- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MGW5UVY

P.S. I tried Keto Chow with coconut oil when I first started. It tasted like crap and when it got cold it solidified into floating chunks. Super disgusting. The MCT Oil is worth it. Don't try Keto Chow and dislike it on account of the coconut oil. Much, much better with MCT Oil. You don't even taste it.

$15/lb for grassfed beef sounds really high. I can get grassfed ground beef for $5/lb at Wegmans & Trader Joes. Maybe there are cheaper options near you for that.

Diane Sanfilippo created a nice document (PDF) that breaks down the best quality to baseline quality in food choices. That can help you make choices as far as what meats to buy, etc. Here's her blog post that expands on the PDF.

If you do end up going away from grass-fed meats, try to supplement with fish oil if you can afford it (to balance your omega ratios). Amazon has Carlsons at a pretty good price.

Good luck!

u/bishopcheck · 4 pointsr/science

I should have stated that i was throwing out a cost effective way. In anycase.

Non sugar based protein powders are fat and carb based. They still have sugar, but not as much.

Hell he could go the coconut oil route but a cup of coconut oil has the came calories as a cup of an average protein powder. And even though I like coconut oil's taste, I don't think many people could stomach that much.

Other oils that have more calories don't taste very good(peanut, vegtable).

Actually just remembered this cod liver oil is high in calories and vitamins, and doesn't taste bad at all. I used to take a tablespoon a day when I was still in the Army. But a tablespoon is only 130 calories

I'm allergic to nuts, but that's a decent source iirc, though not sure on the cost effectiveness. Peanut butter falls under this category.

I'm not sure of many other cost effective + decent tasting alternatives of greatly increasing calorie count.

u/myreality91 · 4 pointsr/Homebrewing

I get mine from Whole Foods when I travel to the nearest large city.

If you don't have a Whole Foods type place nearby to look, you can order Swanson's probiotic capsules. These are the same lacto strain and will sour the same as Good Belly.

u/psubrew · 4 pointsr/Homebrewing

There is a pure l. plantarum product made by a company named Swanson: https://www.amazon.com/Swanson-Plantarum-Support-Billion-Drcaps/dp/B00BZ3YWXC/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1500557987&sr=8-4&keywords=Lactobacillus+Plantarum+299V

I just had a Berliner this weekend that was made with Goodbelly probiotic drink, which I believe only contains l. plantarum as well. I am currently souring a batch of Berliner with the Swanson product FWIW.

alright here goes my exhaustive list of stuff that goes into my preworkout! i love to research the stuff that works, and then experiment to see how effectively they work for me, especially on keto.

  1. 1 scoop of pre jym from bodybuilding.com - just because i don't want to add all those ingredients (good compared to most) on my own and it tastes pretty good (raspberry lemonade). it does, however, have 4g carbs per scoop - https://www.bodybuilding.com/store/jym/pre-jym.html

  2. 1/2 scoop of optimum nutrition hydrowhey protein powder (about 15g protein) - fast digesting preworkout protein seems more logical than just bcaas. keeps me satiated during my workout and seems to boost recovery times because i have the full gamut of proper amino acids in my bloodstream as exercise-induced insulin rises. turbo chocolate and chocolate peanut butter are my favorites. vanilla surprisingly sucks and gets very foamy - https://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/platinum_hydrowhey.html

  3. 1 tsp curcumin powder from bulk supplements - expensive but 1kg lasts a long time - go to examine.com to see the dozens of benefits it has across the board. i use this to help alleviate my disc issues, but it feels great for workouts because it reduces inflammation everywhere, especially joints. you can get pills instead, but they're not as cost effective and i like to blend it into my shakes. MAKE SURE YOU PAIR IT WITH BIOPERINE (already in pre jym but super cheap anyway) OR GET THE BIO AVAILABLE TYPES. otherwise, only your gut will get the benefits -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GHY364A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

  4. 1 digestive enzyme pill - research has shown that such enzymes not only help with what you'd expect, digestion, but also boost muscle synthesis, immune system, reduce soreness, etc. - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RH5K26I/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  5. 1 tbsp extra citrulline malate - because 1 scoop of pre-jym doesn't have the clinical dose of around 8g. research has shown that it reduces soreness and speeds up muscle repair. i believe it helps performance as well - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EYDJU50/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  6. EDIT: 1/2 tsp (not 2 tsp) extra beta alanine - because 1 scoop of pre-jym doesn't have enough. this stuff kinda acts like creatine, boosting the number of reps you can do. especially helpful on my high rep/speed days. great for crossfit types of workouts if you're into those. i like the tingly feeling as well - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EIO4I8E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  7. 1/2 tsp potassium citrate - i take electrolytes before and during my workouts -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ENSA93S/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  8. 1/16 tsp magnesium glycinate - one of the most bioavailable forms of mg and doesn't mess up your digestion -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F7OZJR8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  9. 1/2 tsp calcium citrate - Ca and Mg go well together in the body. also, multivitamins rarely hit the RDA for calcium -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F8I5XPG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  10. 1/2 tsp pink salt - sodium! need lots of it because i sweat a lot - https://www.samsclub.com/sams/himalayan-pink-salt-5-lb-fine-grain/prod20131268.ip

  11. 1/4 tsp vitamin c - i take a lot of vit C to help with disc healing. collagen synthesis requires vit C. of course, great anti-oxidant, great for skin, etc. -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AYIM9Y8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  12. 1/2 tsp ALCAR - i supplement this mostly for the nootropic effect (boosts the brain and concentration), but it supposedly helps with fat breakdown and energy a little bit. i feel razor sharp concentrated during my workouts with this. also, it's just plain old good for the brain. -
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E7H96DY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

  13. 200 mg L-theanine - smooths out the jittery feeling from caffeine to provide more stable energy. also good before bed to get higher quality of sleep. -
    https://www.amazon.com/BulkSupplements-Pure-L-Theanine-Powder-grams/dp/B00E7GESLA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492089341&sr=8-1&keywords=bulk%2Bl-theanine&th=1

  14. 100mg pill RALA - good for the nervous system and energy - https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Stabilized-R-Lipoic-BioEnhanced/dp/B000I4C19G/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492089382&sr=8-1&keywords=doctor%27s+best+rala

  15. 200mg coq10 - good for the heart, boosts energy a bit - https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Absorption-Bioperine-Supplement/dp/B00HRGN36S/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492089466&sr=8-2&keywords=doctor%27s%2Bbest%2Bcoenzyme%2Bq10&th=1

  16. 320mg saw palmetto extract pill - good for men's prostate health, keeps good testosterone high (instead of DHT), and for me, prevents the hairloss that creatine (i think) has induced. not just bs bro science, go to examine.com for research. i personally have regrown a lot of hair by taking 2-3 three of these a day for the last three months! - https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Palmetto-Softgels-Count/dp/B006RQ6TAG/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492092375&sr=8-1&keywords=doctor%27s+best+saw+palmetto

  17. 1 tbsp psyllium husk powder - keeps my digestion on track, prevents the indigestion i tend to get from MCT oil - https://www.amazon.com/Bulksupplements-Pure-Psyllium-Powder-grams/dp/B0100QRXOO/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1492092483&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=psyllium%2Bhusk%2Bpowder&th=1

  18. 10g MCT oil - i either use brain octane or miCkey T Eight because they are pure C-8 caprylic acid instead of blends of the crappier acids. definitely boosts energy during long workouts. careful, it tends to mess with your stomach if you don't ease into it. if you're good with coconut oil, you're probably good with this. - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RUCHISS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  19. 100mg hyaluronic acid - helps with joints and skin. i have noticed my knee and elbow pain going away while taking this. skin complexion also improved. - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00663G8WO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    currently experimenting with:

  20. clear muscle - i usually supplement HMB, but this is the newer liquid variant. its pricey, and i haven't noticed anything bad about it, but it's hard to say if it's working better than the much cheaper powdered HMB. studies are probably very biased, so i can't really trust them - https://www.amazon.com/MuscleTech-Advanced-Strength-Building-Capsules/dp/B00JQ3WXS4/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492094034&sr=8-1&keywords=clear+muscle

  21. phospha muscle - phosphatidic acid has shown some promise in studies, but again, probably biased research. also cannot tell yet, but i have seen some decent strength gains pairing this with clear muscle. we'll see! - https://www.amazon.com/MuscleTech-Phospha-Clinically-Phosphatidic-SoftGels/dp/B00UVAG1PM/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492094155&sr=8-1&keywords=phospha+muscle

phew! making this list made me realize how much time and effort i put into the trial and error of my preworkout. of course, i supplement a lot of this stuff with my other meals as well. as you can see, i'm very big on supplements, biohacking, and nootropics. i read up a lot on research in my spare time.

u/2pedestrian4reddit · 3 pointsr/ankylosingspondylitis

I know this is a bit late to the party but my friend just got diagnosed as well and we went on a day long researching binge. I tried to consolidate everything we found to reference later, so for you and any one else interested here is a wall of text. I hope it helps.

The http://www.spondylitis.org website has some good background information with a useful guide on where to start. But I was surprised how there was no emphasis on the importance of diet. I found another website called kickas.org which focuses on diet and the findings of an English doctor named Alan Ebringer. Here's a quick summary of his findings which I haven't found refuted anywhere:

"Ankylosing spondylitis is considered to be a form of "reactive arthritis" following an infection of the terminal ileum and ascending colon by the bowel microbe Klebsiella. Specific anti- Klebsiella antibodies in AS patients have now been reported from 17 different countries: England, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, Belgium, Slovakia, Japan, China, Australia, Canada, USA, Mexico, Argentina, and Turkey.
Over 95% of AS patients possess the HLA-B27 antigen whilst it is present only in 8% of the general population. The Klebsiella microbe has molecules which resemble HLA-B27 and this is the reason why AS patients generally belong to the HLA-B27 group.
In addition, the pullulanase molecule of the Klebsiella microbe crossreacts with type I collagen found in tendons and bone and also with type IV collagen found in basement membranes of retina and uvea, thereby explaining the pathological sites of AS."

We all have trillions of bacteria from thousands of different strains in our gut and I bet most everyone has that Klebsiella bacteria. It's only a problem in people who also have the HLA-B27 antigen who then experience an overgrowth of that particular bacteria. Since that bacteria feeds on starches, you can alter your diet to essentially "starve" it out. This is the London AS diet

As you can see, you may have to cut out additional things like dairy, eggs and even some veggies like onions if you don't get relief by sticking to the middle column. As you starve out the Klebsiella bacteria you'll want to actively replace it with beneficial bacteria (probiotics) like the ones found in yogurt(get the plain, unsweetened greek yogurt), Kefir, kombucha or probiotic pills like these.

Additionally, as you cut sugar and other carbs you'll also be starving out the candida yeast that lives in all our bodies. In some people, too high of a candida population can cause a host of issues ranging from hives to arthritis. You may not have any issues with candida, but if you did, they'll start dying out as well (bonus!). Having so many yeast and bacteria dying off can cause problems on their own unfortunately, they release toxins when they die and their little dead cells have to be cleared out by the body. The body can react to this sudden die off and it's called a Herxheimer reaction (or just "herxing"). Herxing can feel like a whole body inflammation/hives/the flu. You're body can normally process the dying organisms along with the toxins fast enough, but drink plenty of water to help yourself out, your kidneys and liver will be working hard and they'll need the water(some tea can't hurt either).

Another interesting thing I came across is leaky gut syndrome. The basic idea is that the lining of the intestines can become too thin, thin enough to allow large, not-yet-fully-digested proteins and other molecules to permeate the gut and enter your bloodstream. Then, your immune system attacks these unknown molecules and the result is a host of inflammatory responses like arthritis and IBS. Incidentally, frequent use of antibiotics can cause work to thin the lining of the intestines, as well NSAIDs.

This stuff is so increadibly complex and interrelated! but also fascinating. The health of your gut and the kinds of bacteria living there can even influence your mood and determine your obesity risk as well.

Fasting also fits into this puzzle. Humans have fasted for religious and health reasons for all of recorded history. Juice fasts and such even had a pop culture resurgence. One of the benefits of fasting is that you starve out the yeast and bacteria since only your own cells have access to any energy (your own fat stores). This allows you to essentially reset your body and repopulate your gut with healthier bacteria. This article references a few scientific studies that seen to back up that idea. A less appealing way to repopulate your gut bacteria would be... However, IBS and colitis are often comorbid with AS so it might be worth considering. It was for some on the kickas.org forums.

Inflammation seems to be at the intersection of all this. In many ways, inflammation is at the root of all illness. In a sense, you aren’t just your human self, but an ever changing proportion of human cells, bacteria, yeasts, and viruses as well. For long term health you have to keep your non-pathogenic guests in balance lest they bloom and become pathogenic AND maintain an immune system strong enough to evict the active pathogens but not attack your own cells. At the risk of redundancy, I think it’s useful to include this book that covers the importance of that balance and the risk of antibiotics.
A final resource I found was on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which isn't must different than the London AS diet but the website was very helpful and had a lot of information that was free even though they're trying to sell a book.
AS can seem daunting, maybe I should have led with a positive testimonial from someone who managed to control his AS
Dotyisle’s AS story

Oh, one final thing, exercise as much as you can! I have a book called "The Exercise Cure" and for Arthritis (closest thing in the book to AS) he says those with severe pain should at least do stretching, yoga/swimming/strength exercises like air squats and lunges.

TL;DR: A low/no starch diet will lower the number of harmful bacteria, reduce your inflammation response, and increase the effectiveness of traditional medicines at smaller (easier on the body/less side effects) doses.

I would look into probiotic supplements (I use these, they are a bit pricey, but work well. You can get straight acidophilus really cheap at walmart or a pharmacy as well.

If you are near a Fry's, they have carbmaster which fits into Keto pretty well. I have not found another yogurt that will work with Keto.

Congrats on these next steps! Has a love for listening to music become re-awakened for you too during this? That's how it was for me. Really beautiful. GI issues for me over the various times I quit in past were sometimes good and other times really bad. Working on my gut with probiotics helped a great deal when bad and also taking magnesium to soften things up, although that part hasn't really been a problem as once clean, everything softened up a great deal. heh. Different types of probiotics are released in different parts of the gut. The "pearls" get deep as they are enteric coated. I take these. I know that because the capsules are going through the stomach, a majority of the pill probiotics get killed off, but I notice a difference when I take them vs. when I don't. Whether it's psychosomatic or not, I like 'em.

I sometimes make my own yogurt with starters from these guys. I used to be on top of the yogurt every two weeks, but it's more like every two months now.

Yes you do! You need to keep up with your B vitamin intake though. I personally take this multivitamin and I think it's great. Another thing to look for is Omega 3. It can be found in nuts and greens, but if you're really wanting some you can buy vegan softgels.

It's Omega 3 DHA/EPA oil without the fish, instead produced by algae. Prevents/slows brain related aging, and there's some science to suggest it helps with heart health.

But I haven't been using it for that long so I can't necessarily recommend it. It came recommended by simpleskincarescience.com. That site has a good article on probiotics. The top one he recommended more was really expensive. So I thought I'd try this one instead. Plus I wanted pills that were easy to swallow.

I read a study that rosacea sufferers saw improvement with L. paracasei. But overall skin health is improved with other strains. I think the simpleskincarescience.com might have a reference to the study.

Interesting, have you gotten decent tartness from it? I figured it was just a dud.

Never tried good belly but my most recent attempt was with the Swanson's probiotics. I made a starter with three capsules and pitched it into 6 gallons of wort a few days later. 36 hours of recirculating at 85-90F and it was almost too sour but the taste was considerably cleaner than anything else I've tried (Wyeast, Omega, grains). I can't recommend it enough.

u/Captain_Midnight · 3 pointsr/keto

Sweet potatoes and yams are pretty starchy, so in large enough quantities, they will keep you out of ketosis.

Coconut oil is naturally high in lauric acid, (aka C12 because it has 12 carbon bonds). There are small amounts of capric acid (C8) and caprylic acid (C10). C12 is technically an MCT (medium chain triglyceride), but it has to be processed by your liver while C8 and C10 bypass that step. MCT oil is just the latter two acids, making it a more efficient form of fuel than coconut oil. You should definitely feel the difference in your morning coffee.

If you shop around, you can get MCT oil for reasonable prices. Amazon sells Left Coast for $21, and there's Viva Labs for $18. The latter is sourced from palm fruit instead of coconuts, but at this level of refinement, it doesn't matter. It would be like arguing over which country produces the best gasoline. It has no effect on your car's engine :).

Since these bottles have 32 ounces of fluid, that's actually a pretty decent price. Most retail jars of coconut oil are 16 ounces, so although they're cheaper, they also have half the oil (and a fraction of the C8 and C10).

u/fernly · 3 pointsr/soylent

FYI (and maybe this should be in teh FAQ?) MCT stands for "medium-chain triglyceride" which is a chemical description of a class of oils, primarily found in palm kernel oil and coconut oil. Follow the link for comments on the health implications.

You can buy MCT oil by the bottle and people do, in order to mix it into a product like Keto Fuel or Chow in order to raise the calories without adding either carbs or oils considered "bad" like corn oil.

However you can also make an oil into a powder by just mixing the oil with something that is an edible powder. Google "oil powder" and you find lots of recipes for making olive oil powder, for example, and these all use either tapioca powder or pure maltodextrin. But that would not be what Aussielent did because those powders are sugars, i.e. carbs, i.e. not what you want in a keto mix! Dunno what Aussielent used, it just says "MCT powder", but here is an MCT oil powder in which the powder component is "soluble corn fiber, sodium caseinate, sunflower lechitin[sic]".

  • Magnesium - Buy on Amazon - Labdoor Review
  • Gastrointestinal side-effects, like diarrhea and bloating, are more common when magnesium oxide or magnesium chloride are supplemented, due to the lower absorption rates of these two forms. In general, magnesium citrate is a good choice for supplementation.
  • Vitamin D - Labdoor Review and Purchase
  • If there's only one supplement you're taking for your health and your diet is decent, it should probably be Vitamin D. I highly recommend taking Vitamin D instead of a multivitamin most of the time.
  • Fish Oil - Buy on Amazon - Labdoor Rankings
  • Fish oil provides a variety of benefits when supplemented, particularly when the ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in the body is almost equal (1:1). The average diet (red meat, eggs, and so forth) are high in omega-6 fatty acids, which is why fish oil is recommended (to balance the ratio).
  • A ratio of roughly 1:1 is associated with healthier blood vessels, a lower lipid count and a reduced risk for plaque buildup. Fish oil can also decrease the risk of diabetes and several forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
  • It should be noted that fish oil can also reduce triglycerides in people with high triglyceride levels. However, it can also increase cholesterol, so care should be taken before supplementing fish oil for this purpose.

Note: The indented bullet points are quotes from the corresponding examine.com articles, not my words.

Those are what I take, though I've only recently started adding fish oil. You can find a decent article here with more information and other supplements to consider. If you're curious about more details information on supplements, definitely check out examine.com. It's a fantastic resource.

Its really hard, i completely understand. You are not a lost cause, there is something out there that will work for you, you just have to find it. Also be sure to work on identifying any lifestyle factors that may be contributing. This includes physical health issues such as vitamin D deficiency, thyroid hormone imbalance, vitamin/mineral deficiency, lack of omega 3s in your diet (a person with depression should be taking 1-2g of a high quality omega 3 supplement daily (with a meal) which contains roughly around 60% EPA, 40% DHA. heres one that fits that description, a person with depression should take 3 per day. For those people (like myself) who eat a plant based diet, i take these which are omega 3s extracted from algae (fish have omega 3s because they eat algae). I also take a vitamin D3 supplement daily because i can't get enough sun naturally, and i keep a calcium/magnesium/zinc complex and multi-vitamin in my cabinet to take a few times a week on those days when I have been really busy and haven't had time to eat until i get home late, and know that the one meal I'm having cant provide me with everything i need so I'll take some calcium and a multi after dinner to just throw in some of those important minerals and vitamins that my brain/body need to keep itself running smoothly.

A few tips, use the Untapped app to find beer. I just did a search for New Grist in Lincoln Nebraska and there was a liquor store called The Still that said they had it. Not sure where you are, but Untapped may be of assistance.

Have you figured out her tolereance? My wife has celiac and she is able to drink a few Modelo Especials or corona’s without issue. They have low ppm of gluten. If your wife is ultra sensitive, then she would likely have an issue. This list is decent to judge.

You can get something like these and pack the ABV in them as well. They look like just some shit you'd get from a health food store and as long as you have food/drink in your stomach when you take 'em, you won't have any discomfort. Two or three will treat you like a nice sized brownie would.

u/notasinglefaptogive · 2 pointsr/ketogains

That's the thing about living in America (dunno if you live there or not.) ALL fermented foods should have probiotics. But everyone has an irrational fear of getting sick so they kill all the good bacteria.

If you're willing to buy probiotic pills, a 3 month supply of this is what I recommend: http://www.amazon.com/Enzymatic-Therapy-Acidophilus-Pearls-Capsules/dp/B000BQ8ATQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1372712235&sr=1-1&keywords=probiotic+pearls

I can tell you they work for sure. It went through the ultimate test of relieving me of my.. ahem... toiletry issues. Always buy probiotics from Amazon. They're way, way overpriced in stores. The one I linked is 90 days for 16 bucks. At the store 30 is 20 bucks.

Food-wise, Activia greek yogurt is good. I'm never sure about saurkraut, so I just pass on it. I can never seem to find organic, unpasteurized.

One of the best is Braggs apple cider vinegar. Has to be organic. Braggs is the most well-known and available brand. Shake it up so the brown sediment at the bottom (those are basically the probiotics) "dissolves" evenly into the liquid, then put two tablespoons into a glass of water and gulp it down. It's also said to aid in fat loss and a lot of celebrities use it for that purpose, but Im not entirely certain if that's true or not.

If you can find organic, unpasteurized pickles, go for it. But chances are due to the laws of the land, you wont have much luck in that department. It's supposed to be really easy to make your own though. And you can even use the leftover juice of storebought pickles if you're lazy.

They also make probiotic teas. This brand in particular has a probiotic that can withstand high temperatures, meaning it wont die off in the hot water. I've used it personally and can tell it works. I'll give ya the Amazon link in case you're interested. Ignore the price tag. It's for a pack of 6. You'll find single boxes of them for like 3-4 bucks at walmart.
http://www.amazon.com/Bigelow-Tea-Lemon-Ginger-18-Count/dp/B002XWSNCA/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1372712693&sr=1-1&keywords=lemon+probiotic+tea

And also notice that the 2.6 liters is probably a day with no exercise. So if you work out you'll need even more.

u/RussianAsshole · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

You should take probiotics to help with that, they're basically good bacteria that boosts your immune system, helps your digestive track, etc.

u/navyjeff · 2 pointsr/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

Try some of these. They might work for you. At least now I can eat pizza, and if I happen upon some cream, it's not the end of the world.

u/Church_of_Cheri · 2 pointsr/loseit

I'm Lactose intolerant, as well as having issues with FODMAPs (short chained carbohydrates), which I think is very similar to what you have. I also have lots of allergies, including oral allergy syndrome and can't have uncooked greens of any time, plus lots of other foods that have fiber. I'm now on the Keto diet and loving it! I'm good with almost all the foods, and finding out a lot more about lactose intolerance. For example, harder cheeses and higher fat milk products like heavy cream, have very little if any lactose in them and I can eat them. I also didn't know there is lactose in wine, that was heartbreaking. Also, if you're out to eat or possibly have lactose, these help a lot, they're the only ones that work for me. Best of luck!

u/brian21 · 2 pointsr/lactoseintolerant

I will very very very strongly recommend Schiff's Lactose Defense Probiotic. Lactaid did not work for me, and I can eat half a pizza with this without issue. Sold at Amazon, Walmart, Walgreens, and probably more.

u/aipotsyd · 2 pointsr/90daysgoal

May I suggest a probiotic for your lactose intolerance. It's something you take daily, but I find it works much better than taking lactase with each dairy consumption. Plus, I find it to be much cheaper if you're planning on having dairy daily anyway. I will warn you though, that you should wait 3 or 4 days after starting before consuming dairy and those first few days were filled with bloating and gas (though not as bad as eating dairy without anything).

u/gcalpo · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I take it one step farther and take lactose pills from "Dietary Advantage" that are basically bacteria-on-a-pill (oversimplification) that help you digest lactose all day. One pill in the morning and no worries the rest of the day.

Edit: I have a subscription from Amazon for the 3-packs (96 doses total) I think this was the most cost-effective solution and I don't have to remember to stock up.

u/Babooshka · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I used to have a great article on fish oil that I can't effing find right now. Basically, you have to make sure you're getting the right amount of EPA and DHA from your fish oil. The majority of the capsules won't get you enough of a daily quantity.

This is the fish oil I use. It's just tolerable. The capsules are far easier to take but I had a lot of trouble finding capsules that had enough. You want anywhere from 2-4 grams of EPA and DHA, and the ratio has to be correct.

You can also find more information on the proper amounts and ratios of EPA and DHA in some of the reviews on that page. If I come across a good link I'll post it here. Check marksdailyapple.com

Be careful though, this amount is too much for me so I actually have to manually reduce my dosage by taking out some of the content of the caps and taking about 1/2 the stuff. It has helped me quite a bit in terms of giving me that motivation and good feeling, but it isn't enough to keep the focus on a single task. Razz! You're here, this is excellent.

OK, I have some limited info that might be helpful regarding your questions. First of all, don't force yourself to eat things that are unpalatable. Try to substitute, if you can, with other vegetables, and realize that baby is getting what s/he needs from you, especially if you're taking a prenatal. I really, really enjoyed peanut butter and crackers. Like, in a big way. Two jars a week.

I cry at commercials and maudlin thoughts now. So, no, crying at a meal seems perfectly normal. It'll pass.

When I heard the heartbeat for the first time, I just remember thinking, Thank God! No more IVF for a while! It wasn't until she really looked like a human at 12 weeks that I got more attached. And, frankly, I only really thought of her as a real person when I could start to feel her moving (around 19-21 weeks). Whatever you're feeling is OK. Be patient with your post-infertility PTSD, if you think you might have a little. That's what we're all here for.

Um, regarding the Crinone - yeaaaah, never saw black. BUT, I did some googling, and some other boards that shall remain nameless seem to say that it's old stuff that is a week or two old that is just discharging. So, seems harmless.

Vegan and 20 weeks here! My doctor was similarly unconcerned and even when other people express concern I just point out that all the foods doctor's tell you that you can't eat (packaged deli meat, unpasteurized dairy, sushi, etc.) are all non-vegan anyways! My iron is on the low side naturally (even from 10+ years ago when I ate meat) so she said to work on it if I can, and if it's lower by the time I'm in my third trimester she'll have me take an iron supplement, but since then I've just been more deliberate about ensuring I have iron in every meal (oats are a great source of iron for breakfast!) Also, these are the two vitamins I take. u/itsmyotherface · 2 pointsr/Pets

I have a cat with IBD, and he has problems with chronic diarrhea/colitis symptoms.

I give him two dietary supplements. One is human grade, one is pet-grade.

Pet grade: Honest Kitchen Perfect Form. This is mainly a fiber supplement, but it also contains slippery elm bark, which works as a lubricant in the digestive tract, which reduces irritation and inflammation. I dose according to the instructions on the can. A $14 can lasted me a full year with daily use.

The human grade: Jarrow S. Boulardii. This is not a pro-biotic, but is a dietary yeast. The whole idea behind this is that your cats gut may not have a proper amount of good gut bacteria. The dietary yeast creates an explosion in good gut bacteria, which reduces inflammation.

I dose this at a near-human dose of 1 pill per day (and they are horse pills even for people), so a $40 bottle lasts 6 months. This is more than you would typically use on a pet---you'd only be using about half a pill. Problem with this stuff is that the MOS is bitter, so most cats won't eat it, you have to pill it. (Some cats are weird, like mine. He'll eat it.) Ideally, you'd buy a $10 bag of size 3 gelatin capsules and re-capsule it. The cat should get 1-2 per day. Warning: it WILL make your cat gassy and give them tummy rumbles until their body adjusts.

For this product, there is also a stop-diarrhea protocol which essentially calls for giving them a dose of this stuff every 4 hours for 24 hours, then dosing 2x/day, until the cat is stable enough to go to once a day.. I did do it after my cat had a particularly bad setback, and it worked.

I have been able to back off the use of these two products in recent weeks. My cat is currently stable using medication and prescription food, so I have been able to reduce the supplements. Ideally, I'd want to wean him off the steroids, but the supplements aren't miracle workers.

I have also tried Nexabiotic, but found that it was not strong enough to do any good for my cat.

The only vet-grade probiotic my vet stocks is Forti-Flora, and it simply didn't work. I found these supplements through a feline IBD support group. My vet had never heard of their use before, but since the ingredients couldn't hurt, she was all for trying them.

Your 6-row malt is not necessary as you're using malted wheat (which is enzymatic).

Skip the protein mash. I would also recommend against souring the mash, especially if you're not using a lactobacillus culture. This method is hit-or-miss with results, and you will be more likely to have a better product if you lauter and pitch a pure lacto culture into your kettle. http://www.milkthefunk.com/wiki/Wort_Souring#Souring_in_the_Boiler_.28Kettle_Sour.29

If you have a health foods store, you may be able to find goodbelly. Use the straight shot if you can, or use the juice (peach mango orange would be a good option). I'm not a huge fan of goodbelly, but lots of other homebrewers swear by it.

http://goodbelly.com/where-to-buy/

Otherwise, the health foods store might have lactobacillus plantarum capsules.

I used this to sour my berliner. used 10 capsules for a 5gal batch at 100f, left it for ~4 days and it got down to 3.1ph. plantarum works at lower temps than a lot of lacto, so while it could take longer, it will still chug along at room temp and get you where u want it eventually :). oh, and its prime, so you can likely get it before your brewday if you order now!

You need at least 500mg of EPA and 250mg of DHA daily. It can do wonders, reduce cellular inflammation, boost your immune system, Testosterone levels, etc.

According to Lyle McD's RFLD e-book, he says:
"Recent research has found that the body will saturate tissue
levels of the EPA and DHA at an intake of roughly 1.8 grams EPA and 1.2 grams of DHA."

Most cheap products don't have a good amount of EPA-DHA in it! Also, most brands have unwanted levels of heavy metals! The best ones are filtered and more expansive. You should shop carefully.

I read examine.com a lot when looking up supplements. The sad piece is most supplements do little to nothing - assuming your diet is on point. Two supps I have found with good evidence to support there purported benefits are Vit D & Fish Oil. Vit D I take because I live in the Northeast US, so sunlight this time of year is sparse. Fish oil is supposedly good for skin barrier repair - along with heart/brain health. I eat a tremendous amount of fish but it doesnt hurt popping a pill every morning. Heres the brand i take

Lets see... I've tried quite a few, but certainly not all of them. I remember these 4 specifically.

Mickey T Pure Caprylic Acid - I don't like that it uses some palm kernel oil. I really like it, but I'm only on my first bottle. Little to no taste.

Nature's Way Coconut Oil - Only 94% MCT if I recall correctly (nonissue for me). Tastes good, like mild coconut.

Sports Research - Quality, but it has a slight chemically chloride aftertaste.

Burried Treasure - Stay away. Significant consistency/quality issues across 4 different bottles (3 from Amazon and 1 from Central Market). 1 had little to no flavor, 3 had a similar chemically chloride aftertaste.

I'll next try one of these two:

one, two

I haven't tried any of the Bulletproof stuff and don't intend to.

u/3p25-26 · 2 pointsr/oilpen

pyur thinner is 100% mct oil. look up the two ingredients on google.

pyur thinner sds/ingredients

it was clearly doneto confuse new people. n-octanoic acid and 1-nonanecarboxylic acid are just mct oil. nothing else. search it yourself. those chemicals also do not exist in hemp oil (scroll to pg4)

see where it says “carbon length” 8 and 10. that means c8 and c10 which = mct oil. c8 and c10 don’t even exist in hemp oil so there is 0 way it’s really derived from hemp. c8 and c10 are capric + caprylic acid aka saturated fats. hemp oil is such a big health food because it’s allll unsaturated fats and in the teeny tiny amount of saturated fats that hemp does produce there is only stearic acid (c18) and palmic acid (c16). no caprylic or capric acid (c8+c10 aka pyur thinner). so 1 there’s no way it even comes from hemp and 2 it’s stilljust 100% mct oil.

Before I started it I didn't have any noticeable digestion issues. But I don't think it was noticeable because this issues going on in my gut manifested into other issues like psoriasis/eczema, allergy symptoms, feeling crappy in general, and of course the hormonal issues. I've been eating low carb/no gluten or grains for a few months and I haven't had any skin issues or allergy symptoms. After taking the probiotic I realized that I wasn't quite as "regular" as I should have been and now it's much more frequent.

Want to add fiber to your diet? I was taking psyllium husk powder for a while as a fiber supplement. It has a grain flavor and the texture isn't the best but it's pretty cheap and it works.

This is not the kind I was taking but it's similar. 24 ounce would last a long time. Make sure you mix with a full glass of water and it does get stuck pretty well to whatever you mix it in, so I recommend using (and reusing) a plastic cup and spoon until they get too gross. Then throw away. You can add it to other foods too, but I prefer just chugging it. I would take 1teaspoon a day.

u/LeighmurBJJ · 2 pointsr/bipolar

Here it is. The reason I went with this one is because of the EPA:DHA ratio. You can check out examine.com for more info, but the gist of what I've read is that you want more EPA than DHA for mood stabilizing. I looked at another site that reviewed fish oils in general, and this was #3

https://www.amazon.com/Viva-Labs-Omega-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B014LDT0ZM/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468098995&sr=8-1&keywords=viva+labs+fish+oil

Here's the website I saw the ranking at. I've got no clue how legit it is, but I used it mostly to check on the EPA to DHA ratio.

https://labdoor.com/rankings/fish-oil

EDIT: a bit more information: you want more EPA than DHA for mood stabilizing or antidepressant effects. Also you want to get between 1 and 2 grams of EPA per day. More than that hasn't been shown to be effective (i.e. taking a shit ton won't necessarilybe better).

u/BulkingKitchen · 2 pointsr/gainit

From a pill supplement form, there are really only a few "vitamins" that I would suggest. This is a quick list:

  • Men's Multi Vitamin ( Rainbow Light) - Basic maintenance
  • ZMA (Optimum Nutrition) - Taken before bed on empty stomach for sleep and recovery
  • Fish / Krill Oil (Viva Fish Oil)

If you eat plenty of macro-nutrient dense whole foods, you should not have to take any more pills than this.

I think your teeth are fine! Like other said, there's always Invisalign to straighten them.

For whitening, I like to use natural stuff like Activated Charcoal. You break open the pills onto a small dish, wet your toothbrush, brush for about 2-3 minutes. There's really not much of a taste and you get to look like a crazy person with black stuff in your mouth. Rinse and repeat once a week. Whitens little by little over time.

Here's the recipe for re-mineralizing tooth powder:

1.) Use a plastic Tupperware container, don't use anything metal to stir or store the powder (bentonite clay can pull things from metal). Square and shallow seems to work best.

2.) 1/4 - 1/2 cup of Bentonite Clay (depending on the size of your container), this is the brand I use.

3.) 3 - 6 capsules of [activated charcoal] (https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Activated-Charcoal-Capsules/dp/B0006LCQ4Q/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1500301931&sr=1-2&keywords=activated%2Bcharcoal&th=1) - great for whitening - can stain grout so be careful when using! Just gently twist the capsule and dump the contents in with the clay.

4.) Clove and/or cinnamon to taste - optional.

5.) Mix ingredients with a plastic spoon or just put the lid on and shake gently!

How to use:

1.) Dip dry or damp toothbrush in coconut oil - I try for a pea sized amount sometimes more.

2.) Dip coconut oil covered brush in tooth powder, just enough to cover, tap your toothbrush on the edge to remove excess.

3.) Brush. I find it works better for me to spread the tooth powder around on my teeth before turning on my electric brush. Again the charcoal can stain grout, towels, etc. so be careful!

If you don't like or have coconut oil you can always just dip a damp toothbrush in the powder and brush with just that!

As for whitening my husband and I both saw a lot of improvement. He's an ex-smoker and it got rid of the tobacco stains on his front teeth after a month or so of twice daily use but YMMV.

No offense, but stealing energy drinks makes no god damn sense, especially from a gas station. They're already a massive ripoff.

Red bulls retail for what, $3 a pop at a place like that? An 8 ounce can has all of 80mg of caffeine in them, less than even a cup of coffee. That's like 100mg of caffeine for 3 1/2 dollars.

Why not just legitimately buy a $25 kilo of caffeine from amazon for what amounts to 1/4th of cent per 100mg. You'd have more than enough money left over to buy a cheap scale and geletin pill capsules to cap out your dosages. Total cost: about $45 for what amounts to 10,000 100mg doses of caffeine, or less than a 1/2th cent per 100mg.

That's all assuming you're buying red bull for the energy boost and not the taste.

The next option is grind it up into a powder and load it into capsules from a healthfood store and just swallow the capsules.

You need to take it on an empty stomach. And be Very Careful with how you use it. Tolerance builds very quickly and for that reason it can be addicting. Never take more than 2 grams a day. Limit yourself an average of 2.5 times a week. 2 times a week plus and extra time if you have something important going on that day like job interview, important social engagement and then only 2 times next week. Never take it 2 days in a row. You shouldn't be using more than 1 or 1.2 grams a day. Filling up 2/3 of the gel cap (I used tweezers to do it) was about .8 grams.

Some people are idiots with it, got addicted, and were taking 8 or 9 grams a day, then for whatever reason quit cold turkey and had a psychotic break. I've heard even without that withdrawal is a nightmare so it's best not to build a tolerance. I normally make poor decisions and usually have poor impulse control but for some reason was able to stick to 2.5 times or less a week. Maybe because I'm so serious about it. So it's definitely worth it to me. It's
powerful stuff.

He had a 2.5g listing up at one point. Scales are damn handy but not entirely essential if you have practice with weighing MDMA out.

Scales can be got cheap on amazon, like this 0.01mg scale, or this 0.001g scale. You get what you pay for to some extent, but even a cheap scale is a really handy investment. 0.01g accuracy is easily enough, but it's a little easier with the extra decimal place, you can be more consistant.

As for capping it, caps are really cheap amazon, or you could just get a dose and bomb it (wrap in tissue/ciggarette paper and swallow). To put it in the cap it's easy to use a straw with a scoop end.

It sounds a lot like when my son had viral meningitis from the description of your headache, which can be caused by entero virus (which is a stomach virus). So you never actually vomited or had diarrhea? Most doctors will tell you not to eat anything if you can't stop vomiting. That gives your stomach a chance to settle down so that you don't get dehydrated throwing up all your fluids. Even though yogurt is great because it has probiotics in it which you need, dairy is hard on your stomach when you have a stomach virus. I think you should follow the BRAT diet at this point. You can buy little probiotic pearls at the store if you want to help replenish your good bacteria.

If you start to feel super sick to your stomach again. I have this "drink" that I make for my family that is pretty pungent, but I swear it stops the nausea and settles the stomach every single time! I mix one tablespoon of honey into two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. I like to use Braggs brand but I've used generic brands before and it seems to work just as well. Then I either mix in 4 tablespoons of water or apple juice. It's pretty strong but I always tell everyone to hold their breath and drink slowly. It sounds gross but it truly helps. I hope you this helps and that you feel better soon!

u/DaveIsMyBrother · 1 pointr/Health

You have my sympathies...all the sympathies.

A couple of things to help keep things in perspective if you can stand a little Polyanna: Thank goodness both the Lyme disease and H. Pylori are actually treatable. It totally sucks that you are going through this, and it sounds like the next few weeks are going to be quite miserable.

But I'm really, really glad that are treatments available.

So, my brother was advised to take probiotics after some nasty cat bites (long story). There are a bunch of different types: acidophilus is the stuff I use after a course of antibiotics and told him to get that. It comes in a lot of varieties. He opted for the cheaper, compressed pill type. After a couple of weeks of uncomfortable intestinal issues, he decided to get the stuff in pearl form.

I'm giving you the link so you know what to look for. I've found them at CVS and Walgreen's, for about US$5 to $10 and they don't need to be refrigerated. The store brands work just as well as the fancy brands. But the pearls are definitely superior to the compressed tablets that you can get in the vitamin aisle. (Which are about $5 for 300 or something crazy like that. Not worth it; they don't work when you're trying to rebuild intestinal flora from hefty antibiotics.)

Good luck. I hope these couple of weeks go by really quickly.

The only other ideas I have for you is to add things to the BRAT stuff to make them more flavorful. Like, cinnamon to the applesauce? (Applesauce, by the way, has always been a cure for constipation for me. So I've wondered about this component of that diet.)

How about adding a lot of salt to the rice? I'd suggest soy sauce, but that contains gluten. You could try to get some Bragg's Liquid Aminos, which is a not-too-terrible substitution for soy sauce. You can find it a Whole Foods. Or maybe herbs?

You can also turn the rice into a sweet dish. I know that dairy is very difficult to digest, but you could add some sugar or brown sugar and a little maple syrup to it. Eat it like oatmeal. Say, what about a little oatmeal, or polenta? Small amounts, of course. I know that some people who have a gluten intolerance cannot eat oatmeal either, so be careful. But if you can keep the polenta down (another name for cornmeal mush--super cheap and really easy to make!) it should be ok for you. You can dress that up like oatmeal.

Are there different varieties of crackers that you can stomach? Can you try an egg?

Seriously, good luck.

Try giving these a shot once. I use to to be the same way with taking a lot of pills. I take 1 of these before i have dairy and im good to go for quite a bit. I can eat a whole pint of ice cream or a large pizza on just 1 pill. You sometimes might have to take 2 depending on how much dairy but its pretty easy to judge and obviously varies for everyone. I found these about 6 years ago and they have been very consistent. You can find them cheaper in most local stores rather than amazon.

I think as soon as your body realizes it can't digest the lactose it begins to just dump it from your system.

If you want some good solutions, I've been taking these pills for a year now and they work great, you can take 1 every other day and you don't need to worry about dairy

I've always been a little iffy when it came to lactose products, so when I started Keto Chow with heavy cream I was taking Digestive Advantage Lactose Defense just in case. Turns out it wasn't necessary. Cheeses and other ket-friendly dairy products are pretty low in lactose anyways. I really think all the carbs in my old diet was the root cause of my digestive issues and probably had little to do with lactose.

You don't have to be lactose intolerant. Simply buy this and take 1 pill per day. After 6-8 weeks you should no longer be lactose intolerant.

I was lactose intolerant for nearly 40 years. Went through a box of lactaid a week. I stumbled upon those probiotics last July. I took them daily for 3 months, and after 2 months I was cured. I haven't taken them at all in the last 3+ months and I am still cured! Best $30 you'll ever spend.

No idea why someone would have that response. Do you actually like playing guitar? Not a Dr but I don't think playing guitar leads to arthritis. I'm older than you and have been dealing with hand, wrist and elbow problems for years, from decades of typing, wrenching, general handiwork and of course playing guitar.

You need to make adjustments as you age. No more 11s for me. If I'm playing something that requires a lot of bending it's 9s only. I've largely switched to slide as it relieves all that sort of physical pressure.

You need to stretch before playing. You need to be careful repeating the same patterns over and over in the same way. Learn to fingerpick as it gets rid of a lot of repetitive stress movement. Watch how much stress you apply to your fretting hand. Use no more pressure than necessary.

Watch your diet, avoid salt. By far the biggest improvement I made was strong fresh fish oil twice daily. It made my doctor happy too.

You can have my guitar when you can pry it out of my cold dead hands.

u/AndrewCarnage · 1 pointr/keto

Well, I would say you should add some things that aren't particularly high protein, just mostly fat. With your current ratio it seems like you're probably getting plenty of protein.

So here's some foods that are mostly fat that I enjoy. Coffee with heavy cream. Macadamia nuts. Avocados. Cream cheese (yep, just straight up cream cheese). Olives. You get the idea.

I also supplement some oils. I drink a tbsp of Carlson fish oil every day to ensure my Omega 6/Omega 3 ratio is good. I also drink 2 tbsp of MCT oil every day before my bike ride because Medium chain triglycerides are highly ketogenic.

At any rate I get 70+% of my daily calories from fat, more if I do a lot of cardio so it's certainly possible to eat a lot more fat. I don't eat a lot of red meat, pork, or just meat in general either but in my case it's because they're a bit too high in protein (relative to fat) for my purposes.

I would not suggest putting liquid gel-caps of any kind in a coffee grinder. Absorption won't be the issue - the massive mess will be the issue.

FYI, Fish Oil can be bought in liquid form. Just take a spoonful of it.

u/Beyonceislame · 1 pointr/PCOS

After getting more information and reading through your posts again, it sounds less and less like PCOS. Which means you don’t need to worry about that! It should put your mind at ease.

I’m not 100% clear on what your ultrasound showed, but it sounds like they were negative for PCOS. You’ve been told you don’t have PCOS, and that’s also what your symptoms show. The reason your doctor won’t listen to you about PCOS is because you’ve been tested for it and it’s been ruled out. It sounds like he was willing to be open to it by testing you, and then giving you the Metformin even though the tests were negative. But if the Metformin hasn’t worked and you don’t have the symptoms, the issues can’t be PCOS.
There are a lot of signs its not PCOS:

  1. You don’t have the main symptoms of PCOS. In order to have PCOS, you need to have:

  • Very irregular periods. Irregular means you’ve never had normal periods. (Skipping a few like you describe is normal and is probably stress-related).

  • Signs of hyperandrogenism (facial hair, etc.) Acne could be a sign, but since you don’t have the other two symptoms, it cant be PCOS. You need to have at least two very badly, or all three to have PCOS. The acne also started after you went on Metformin, which wouldn’t make sense with PCOS.

  • Polycystic ovaries on ultrasonound. (It sounds like you don’t have this, although it’s not 100% clear. I recommend calling your doctor and double checking this. If you can get a copy of your scans and post a photo of them, I can take a look and try to help you figure it out for sure).

  1. The Metformin didn’t help. Metformin is the treatment for PCOS, so if you had PCOS, your symptoms should have gotten better.

  2. Just because your mom had it, doesn’t mean you’ll have it. It’s not a guarantee at all. My grandma had PCOS. My mom doesn’t have it! Your mom may not have passed it down!

  3. The pains you describe sound like ovulation pains. It’s normal to have some cysts in the ovaries. That’s how women ovulate. In normal women, the cysts are basically eggs getting ready to be released. Ovulation is when a cyst bursts and releases an egg. This can be painful. It’s usually sharp pains like you describe. Having some other pains in the pelvic area is also common during ovulation and when you have a period.

  4. Some acne is normal. Even really bad acne doesn’t mean PCOS. It can be triggered by a lot of things. In your case, it sounds like it could be stress or even diet. It sounds like you might need to see a dermatologist who can figure out exactly what it is and how to fix it.

I’m not sure why you were given Metformin. You should call your doctor’s office to see why you’re on it! (In addition to asking for your ultrasounds!)

It also doesn’t sound like endometriosis at all. Which means you don’t need to worry about Tthat, which is great!

You’re right, thoughts of suicide can be common in young people who take antidepressants. It’s definitely a risk. It sounds like you need to see a psychiatrist who can work with you to figure out how to best manage your depression and anxiety. In the mean time, there are some things you can do on your own that will help. I worked with a depression expert for a while, and medication actually isn’t all that effective unless you have very very severe depression (like can’t get out of bed, can’t eat, etc.) The two things that are even better than antidepressants (and have NO negative side effects) are:

  • Exercise. I know this isn’t exactly what you want to hear since it’s hard to get started and stick to. But even going on brisk walks 10 minutes a day is a start. In clinical trials, exercise actually helped more than antidepressants. It’s way more powerful than people think, but is obviously more effort than taking a pill. However, it doesn’t have any negative side effects and helps your body and mind in so many other ways. It will also help your weight and anxiety!

  • Taking a very high dose of Omega-3 oil has been proven to help depression, but you need to take a much, much higher dose than normal. A normal dose won’t make much of a difference. An average pill has about 150-300mg of Omega-3 in it (even if it says 1,000mg fish oil on the front label, you need to look on the back to see how much Omega-3 is in that fish oil). You need to take at least 3,000mg of Omega-3 per day. Not much more and not less. This will also help a lot with acne!

It sounds like your relationship with your father has been frustrating. Just remember, you can only control what YOU do. You can not control what HE does. You’re in charge of your actions and your actions alone. If he won’t do something for you, you’ll just have to do it yourself. This isn’t always easy, but hopefully addressing your anxiety and depression issues will help you feel more able to manage life on your own!

Edit: Since you’d need to take at least 7-8 normal pills a day to get the dose that helps with depression, I recommend this brand of Omega 3:
    https://www.amazon.com/Carlson-Finest-Lemon-Norwegian-Omega-3s/dp/B001LF39RO
It’s in liquid form, so you only need two teaspoons of this brand a day. It tastes like a light oily lemon flavor. No fish. I take this brand. It doesn’t taste like candy or anything, but it’s much better than trying to take 8 pills a day! It’s also ends up being cheaper than taking pills when you have to take so many each day.

I know it’s expensive, but in my opinion it’s worth it. It will help with the depression, acne, and a lot of other things. It’s something that can really help you feel better mentally and physically, which would help you get back on track!

The internet. For instance, I haven't found a better fish oil deal than this, 640 grams of omega 3 for $30. You can probably just drop the multivitamin if you're interested in saving money as long as you have a fairly varied diet.

u/lovelytrout · 1 pointr/Dreams

I recently started taking Dopa Mucuna, and have noticed some positive differences in non-lucid dreaming.

This supplement provides a precursor to dopamine. It's possible that only people who need dopamine support will see results with this.

During the day, I have a higher sense of mental well-being, even people around me commented on this. My dreams have been easier to remember, and somewhat more colorful.

Now - about a week after I started taking this supplement I picked up an exercise bike-I was motivated to do this partially because of my improved mental state. During the first week of taking the supplement by it's self I noticed some positive changes in my dreaming and mood, after two weeks of exercising everyday, and taking this supplement, it's like I've leveled up. I'm remembering multiple dreams every night, consistently, and my mood and energy levels during the day are elevated. I'm not new to exercise, but the last 3 years I've been stuck in a sedentary rut. These last 3 years have been mostly crap for dreaming and my dream journal reflects this. Are the supplements helping with dreaming? Probably a little bit. Getting myself into a better physical/emotional/mental state has done wonders.

Wellbutrin doesn'r raise dopamine so much as norepenephrine.

Do you remember a time in your life where these symptoms were better, or have you always been this way?

Do you masturbate too much?

Do you have drug addictions?

Do you have signs of inflammation?

Do you have stimulation in your life (consistent social exposure and support, goals, curiousity, novelty, adventure)?

Do you have unresolved emotional trauma that you haven't addressed, and are carrying around?

Do you have a good diet?

There are great nootropics options for dopamine deficiency but not worth going into if you aren't going to tackle the cause. For me I take one of these a day.

u/adidasboy1 · 1 pointr/StackAdvice

Thanks, will certainly look into it further. I am also interested in meditation and will be implementing it when this semester closes out and it makes sense to begin practicing. After doing research over the past 24 hours, I've come up with potential ideas for what I may begin using. If anyone can provide feedback or any notes on any of the following and dosage, it would be appreciated:

  • Bacopa Monnieri - I wasn't sure if it's important to take the extract or the whole herb in capsule form
  • L-Citrulline
  • NAC - I read a recent study suggesting NAC may break down the BBB, but the unhealthy rats used seem faulty
  • KSM-66
  • Chelated Magnesium - I read chelated is the best in this case

Each of these listed are all just ideas, I'm not sure what would be necessary and what wouldn't, just what I've gathered from reading. I have also considered Zembrine and I'm not sure if a dopamine supplement would be necessary for any reason, but if so I've looked at L-Theanine and Dopa Mucuna.

In researching all of this, I've also found multivitamins created specifically for anxiety. Something like this seems it could be promising. Am I better off creating my own stack and taking supplements individually, or would the multivitamin option be something worth considering? Does anyone have any experience?

I'm sorry you're going through this, OP. I have terrible constipation as well and the bloating is one of the worst symptoms for me. It's such an uncomfortable feeling. I'm by no means cured, but I've tried several things that have really helped. Especially with my bloating. I recommend looking into these.

NOW Probiotic: This is one of the best probiotics in my opinion and is a must if you have IBS. I take one capsule 30 minutes before eating and it helps reduce my stomach pan and improves my digestion. This is one of the things that has made the most difference.

Chamomile: I take this after I finish eating. It settles down my stomach and reduces the likelihood of me experiencing stomach pain after eating. I take it not just after eating, but also whenever my stomach acts up. It almost always relieves any sort of stomach discomfort I'm experiencing. Chamomile is particularly good for improving digestion, reducing gas and bloating, and promoting smoother and more frequent bowel movements. If you experience any anxiety, which is pretty common among people with IBS, chamomile can really help with that as well. It's a mild sedative and is very calming. It's useful for lowering anxiety as well as improving sleep issues like insomnia.

High Absorption Magnesium: Most people have some level of magnesium deficinecy. People often don't eat foods that are high in magnesium and to make matters worse, things like sugar, caffeine, and certain medications, can lower your magnesium levels. Magnesium is a very important mineral and getting enough magnesium can help you feel less constipated and help you have smoother bowel movements. It's also good for lowering anxiety as well.

NOW Candida Support: It's believed that some some people with IBS may have candida overgrowth. CO can contribute to IBS symptoms. This supplement does a good job of managing this. I take 2 capsules with a meal.

Senna: Senna is a mild, but effective herbal laxative. I take one capsule 2 to 3 times a day and I've been having bowel movements a lot more often and I'm not as constipated. My doctor had me on Miralax previously, but I switched to senna because Miralax was too strong and harsh. It would help me poop, but I would poop too much. So much that it was even painful. Senna is far less harsh.

Triphala: I take triphala right before bed and I'm usually able to have a bowel movement once I wake up the next morning. It helps the liver and kidneys do a better job of detoxifying the body. It may help kill certain bacteria that could be contributing to your IBS. It seems to work because I noticed that all my acne cleared up and my skin looked so much smoother when I started taking triphala.

Besides these supplements, a diet change can lower the chance of your IBS symptoms triggering. I personally like a gluten-free diet because it's not as strict and difficult to follow as some other IBS diets. Gluten is one of my biggest bloating triggers and avoiding it when I can really helps.

Here is the paper - http://biorxiv.org/content/biorxiv/early/2016/03/06/042549.full.pdf

Basically, there are three types of omega-3 fatty acids - ALA) (found in plants, nuts, seeds), EPA and DHA. Under normal conditions, animals (including humans) metabolize ALA from plant foods into EPA and DHA. However, some people may be at a genetic disadvantage, and not be able to elongate ALA to EPA-DHA efficiently, or one consumes a diet rich in omega-6 fats, trans or saturated fats and blocks the omega-3 receptors. This is why fatty fish is "recommended" for heart health - the essential fatty acids EPA-DHA are already preformed, thereby bypassing genes or otherwise unhealthy eating.

From the paper:

> Balanced consumption of precursors would be particularly important for I/I genotype carriers. I/I carriers consuming excess 18:2n-6 may particularly benefit from consumption of EPA and DHA which bypass the desaturation steps, as a direct balance to ARA. Further, D/D individuals may also benefit from EPA and DHA consumption in pregnancy and in development when neural and other tissue dependent on omega-3 LCPUFA are rapidly develop.

So, eat your dark greens and other foods with a high omega-3 to omega-6 ratio (flaxseed, chia seed), low in saturated and trans fat. You can also take EPA-DHA directly, made from algae. I take these twice daily, after a meal - http://www.amazon.com/Vegan-Vitamins-Softgels-90-Count-Bottle/dp/B002XDQSSK/

I tried a bit of it and it's true you can't tell it's cod liver oil but I thought the lemon flavor was pretty cloying. I can imagine you would still be able to taste it for some time after taking it unless you brushed your teeth afterwards (and maybe even then).

The only concern I would have is the type of vitamin a in the oil is highly absorbent and it's the type that builds up in your system. I don't know how long it would take to do so, but maybe taking it for awhile and then taking a break would be better.

As a fairly recent probiotic convert, I think they're a major facet of health that people neglect.

iLLyNoiZe has a solid bit of info. I'd also recommend reading the strains within certain probiotics. The approach here is that you can find what in particular you need. Specific strains have specific things they target, and getting a feel for these can help you troubleshoot any problems (or possibly narrow things down if you need to switch brands for any reason). This is more of a longer-term recommendation, of course! Good to make note of stuff that works, I figure.

The mango kind will impart the least amount of flavor to the beer. 8-10 oz per 5 gal of beer is enough. You can also use Probiotic pills to sour. Again, no starter necessary, just pull apart a few pills (4-5 is plenty) and dump the powder into the fermenter. Whatever you use, I recommend that it contains L. plantarum.

  2. You can buy lactic or phosphoric acid from a homebrew store and a calculator like Bru'n water to figure that out. However, I never bother with this step. Sours usually have terrible head retention, and I don't mind it.

  3. The last few times I've made a Berliner, I just sour for 24-48 hours in my fermenter, then pitch yeast. As long as you pitch a healthy bacteria starter, you shouldn't have to worry about pathogenic aerobic bacteria joining the party.

  4. Yes, that is kettle souring. I don't because I'm lazy and have separate cold-side equipment for my sours. The advantage of this technique is that you don't need to worry about the bacteria getting onto your equipment and infecting clean beers. Someone who runs a production brewery or a brewpub would be more concerned with this, since they are likely using the same fermentation, lines, and kegging equipment for all their beers.

Make a starter with 5 capsules. Ideal lacto pitching rates are 100-125 billion cells per 5 gallons.

u/ApolloMac · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

I'm about 3 weeks into fermentation of my first kettle sour attempt. I used Swanson L. Plantarum capsules, 10 of them, rather than goodbelly. They worked really well, as I was down to 3.5 pH after about 16 hours @ 95F (I had pre-soured to 4.5 with lactic acid). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BZ3YWXC/

Depending on your culture of lacto, I have heard it can take as much as 72 hours, especially if you are trying to go really low with the pH. But going beyond 3 days is sketchy IMO. I'm just learning the kettle sour process myself but I wouldn't want to leave my wort more than 1-2 days before boiling and pitching yeast.

My guess is your goodbelly shots did not have enough lacto in them, so it was just a really slow start. Pitching more next time would probably be safe. The capsules worked great though, if you want another method to try. I don't know if the flavors are different between the capsules and goodbelly, they might be, but the simplicity was key for me. I would guess any differences are minimal.

By the way, make sure to keep your lacto no hotter than 100. It can actually do just fine in the 80s or even at room temp. The quickest pH drop supposedly happens right around 95 though. When I did some searching a while back, I found Dr. Tobias.

I'm not 100% convinced that fish oil isn't just a scam, but the Dr. Tobias gets really good reviews on all the fronts people care about, and is reasonably cheap.

I stay away from bottom feeder fish oil (cod, etc) as it gives the fish burps. I use Dr. Tobias oil and take 2 soft gels with breakfast.

I am in the same boat and just had my labs done. I am 37 yrs old and my doctor thinks I am too young to be on a statin. I had a doctor who had me on a statin for a short period before. I don't know what the side effects are from statins. What I am seeing about taking niacin to lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol is that its a second choice if statins aren't working or the patient can't take statins. I have only taken niacin a couple times and would never do it again because of the flush. I am looking for a niacinamide, zinc, copper, and folic acid supplement for my acne. A girl on here had posted about taking a niacinamide supplement for her cystic acne and how much it has helped.

Do you take fish oil? It helps with cholesterol and is good for your cardiovascular system. I was taking Dr Tobias Omega 3 Fish Oil Triple Strength, 2,000mg, Burpless, Non-GMO, NSF-Certified, 180 Counts https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CAZAU62/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XalyDb0PXA032 and I think it was helping my acne so I might go back to it. But you have to take 3 big enteric coated softgels a day (I take mine at dinner) I really like the ones I take now because they are really good quality and I only have to take one soft gel and it has a higher epa amount. But they aren't enteric coated and I might go back to the Dr tobias ones because I feel like my acne was clearing up during that time but it could have been something else. The fish oil seems to help level out my hormones. https://www.google.com/shopping/product/11768144938854447263?lsf=seller:15646,store:6768831685341554042&prds=oid:14920488462491029248&q=wiley%27s+finest+fish+oil+peak+epa&hl=en&ei=6bJgXdiWB42v0PEP79CkqAE&lsft=adlpxid:pla;299328552456;283055589310;m;9033354;placeholder;1981398;pla;local;1012&lsft=gclid:CjwKCAjwnf7qBRAtEiwAseBO_LL-BXo9Tyi_fstqvZkAvtoETGWrtoXqIHVrgsd-C09lmgdP1UkAPRoCh-wQAvD_BwE The wileys is expensive off of Amazon. If you choose to take fish oil, research brands and look for 3rd party testing. Supplements are hard because they aren't monitored by the fda like other dietary products. Nordic naturals is another good fish oil. But all three of these are pricey. But if you order dr tobias off Amazon you get a voucher type thing for a free bottle of another supplement and I chose the multivitamin and they were good as well.

I have gone up and down dramatically with my weight and have tried so many things. Honestly the only way to lose weight and keep it off is by changing your lifestyle to eating healthy and exercising. Diets are crap, make small changes at first and then make more. I need to do this, but I love my ginger ale. I drink a lot of water but I drink 4 cans of ginger ale a day I need to give it up. Garcinia cambogia is the only supplement that I have seen aid in weight loss, but I haven't tried it yet. Garlic is supposed to aid in lowering bad cholesterol, I believe.

Chocolate milk and protein powder.

Break up your meals into every 2-3 hours. Even if you can only eat a protein shake and a banana, eat something every 2-3 hours.

Hardboiled eggs are your friend.

My psychiatrist, who is excellent, recommended supplementing my anti-D’s with Omega 3’s. It worked wonderfully, I have more energy all day. And there is actual research on it.

I buy this brand, which has excellent labdoor scores and is a value buy. Viva Naturals

Make sure you buy O-3’s with between 1000 to 2000mg of EPA per dose. If you can, make sure the level of DHA only reaches a third of that number (330mg of DHA per 1000mg of EPA). Do not take if you have manic depression.

Best of luck!

u/psychonaut11 · 1 pointr/StackAdvice

The fish oil actually looks pretty good according to labdoor. They gave it a B- grade, but only because the pills only contain 360mg omega 3 per 1200mg fish oil. They make some higher concentrated omega 3 fish oil pills that are like 80-90% omega 3 but they are much more expensive. You can find them on amazon.

The Nature's Made pills are fine though, you'll just get a little more non-omega 3 oil, but that doesn't hurt. Dose should be ~1 gram omega 3 per day, so you could take up to 3 of those nature made pills per day and it'd be fine.

Fish oil is a good supp to take in general but it's not one that you're gonna see any acute effects from (it's not gonna give you a noticeable boost in "ambition" like you were looking for in your original post), especially if you already eat fish. It is good for you cardiovascular system and brain though.

L-theanine on the other hand you might see some acute benefits from. It acts on glutamate receptors in the brain and increases levels various neurotransmitters. It is also is supposed to increase levels of BDNF and NGF, which are hormones that play a role in neurogenesis and neuroplasticity. I occasionally take L-theanine in the evening (200-400mg) to wind down after work. I find it fairly relaxing. Definitely needs to be taken on an empty stomach with water though to see effects. If you take it in the morning with coffee/caffeine it kinda takes the edge of the caffeine buzz and can really help you get in the zone and focus. It's pretty easy to find good l-theanine, I got mine from liftmode, it seems to work fine. There's a list of reliable suppliers on the "Beginner's guide to nootropics" link if you wanna look at where to get anything else too.

Not that these can cure it, but they may help symptoms till you can get a game plan or find a good doctor to help. Hopefully adding good bacteria with probiotics can take up more real estate then the bad guys and feeding the good bacteria with a prebiotic soluble fiber like psyllium husk can help them thrive. First of all welcome to the club! Here, watch these two videos of a vegan bodybuilder making cheap, simple and high quality vegan meals to have an idea of what you can do:

https://youtu.be/n3spAyOWq7o

https://youtu.be/H-6Qm9KPcmA

>but what about everything else? should i be taking vitamin supplements? should i make sure to eat a huge variety of foods to accommodate for certain nutrients

First B12:

Vegans commonly have one main nutrient of concern and that's B12, vegan products are gaining more space on the shelves so now we have several fortified foods with B12 but you have to understand how B12 works in your body so in the end of the day the simplest way is just taking a supplement but it's possible to get it without any supplemention whatsoever depeding on your diet:

"To get the full benefit of a vegan diet, vegans should do one of the following:"

"Eat fortified foods two or three times a day to get at least three micrograms (mcg or µg) of B12 a day or

Take one B12 supplement daily providing at least 10 micrograms or

Take a weekly B12 supplement providing at least 2000 micrograms."

https://veganhealth.org/what-every-vegan-should-know-about-vitamin-b12/

Here, an exemple of a B12 supplement:

Ômega-3:

This is a highly contentious subject in general, there are several recent studies that disavowed positive effects of omega-3 supplements from fish. As a vegan there are two routes that you can take, you can add 20g of ground flaxseed or ground chia seeds on your diet or you can take a EPA/DHA supplement from algae:

Have in mind that there are no absolute certainty that omega-3 supplements are helpful but dieticians will usually recommend to you in the name of "playing safe". It's up to you what to do:

Additionally, benefits of ALA:

Non-mainstream view on omega-3:

Calcium

Since you'll be cutting dairy from your diet I advise you to put some plant-based milk as a replacement. You'll have no qualms with calcium and plant-based milks are fortified with several vitamins and micronutrients.

Overall:

Although people talk a lot about the difficulty of getting other nutrients, I think it's super difficult to have problems with any other nutrient. To have a better idea, get an app called "cronometer" to monitor you micros and if you just eat normally you'll see that's almost impossible to have problems with other nutrients. You should also check out Dr. Greger "daily dozen" app.

Personally, I don't take omega-3 supplements just ALA everyday and I eat fortified foods and sometimes I just eat a B12 gummybear for safety.

You can also disregard all advise and just follow the guidelines of actual health professionals:

I've also heard this one is pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LL7AXE

Unfortunately, you'll find the algal supplements are noticeably pricier than their flax seed counterparts.

That's weird. Maybe it's actually an allergy to fish protein in the omega-3 oil.

You could try vegan omega-3 made from algae, and see if you still have a reaction. Seeds and nuts are allergenic anyway, so it's hard to tell from that.

Definitely take B12. That's what I've decided based on my research.

I do also take a vegan omega 3 supplement but there's some disagreement among plant-based doctors on that one. This is the one I take: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B074N5JZK8

Even better than Visioniome and requires no refrigeration. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050FKPU0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pEDkDbRSB9VR4

Here's one vegan omega-3 supplement

I think it's possible to go without a B complex, but I supplement advice from a trusted friend, a Phd MD neurologist who noted that a large number of his vegetarian or vegan patients came to him because of conditions caused by B9 deficiency. I don't know if that's the case, but I've been taking it since then.
