Brady label printer

This is what I use for everything

u/saarlac · 55 pointsr/assholedesign

Get a laser printer. You will love it. I got a this dell about a year ago. It's a rebranded xerox product according to what I've read. It's seriously the best printer ownership experience ever. No more stupid ink cartridges. If you don't print a lot you don't have to worry about the ink drying in the heads. The toner lasts a long time and the image quality is so much better than any inkjet I've ever owned.

Here is a copy from I post to another person

"Yes it will,

Here is a print from a printer I bought for $57 and fake filling cartridges for $20 I have had it print more than 2000 colored pages and no problems yet.

Hey, I do theater lighting so I think I can help, though I'm not the best photographer.

Gel is pretty easy to get your hands on. Look on Google for a Theatrical lighting company in your area, any one that rents gear should sell gel, it goes for about $6 for a 2' by 3' sheet, most of which can be reused. Be careful putting it to close to particularly hot light because it can melt. Get a Swatch book while you're there to see all the ones they sell, Rosco and Lee are the leading brands. If you're in the Ann Arbor, Pittsburgh or Chicago area you can have some of mine, I've got too much.

In terms of lighting equipment, you don't need to spend much. I've lit entire (extremely low budget) musicals with lights from the hardware store. These lights are cheap and directional and you can tape gel right over it: https://www.amazon.com/Power-Zone-Clamp-Light-PZ-300/dp/B000KKLPOU

To control intensity with these lights you can either buy portable dimmers which aren't too expensive, use ND filters (another kind of gel) or different wattage lamps (light bulbs). They each have strengths and weaknesses but I wouldn't worry about it yet, just play with whatever is cheapest.

LEDs are nice because you can change color, but you don't need expensive ones. I believe Amazon sells some for cheap with RGB control, but for faces I would stick with incandescent light, tends to make the actress look better.

In terms of the photos, they look great. One thing I try to do is light the subject and the background separately. An amber model on a blue background really pops. Lighting the background or actor from two different angles with different colors also leads to a nice effect, you seem to have figured this out, but keep playing with it and try doing it with different lights for the subject and background.

Anyway, keep it up and let me know if you have anymore questions.

I don't know about OP, but EVERYONE where I work uses the Brady BMP21 plus with their nylon cloth tape too. It's super resistant to oil and other general boatyard filth.

  • Someone fully blind might have an easier time tweaking their sleep cycle to have them alert at night, and being accustomed to functioning without sight could make them a capable watchman/guard. Few sighted city people appreciate just how dark it gets at night without electricity. I'd take an alert person standing guard by ear over a sleepy person half-assedly looking around for flashlight beams or whatnot, any day. I suspect that standing "watch" on a cloudy/rainy night is a place where someone accustomed to functioning with limited or no visual range would substantially outperform anyone accustomed to relying on their vision for information about their surroundings.

  • Depending on your part of the world and how many plants are poisonous/harmful to touch, someone blind could build farming and plant identification skills that put "clueless sighted person visually examining a botanical guidebook" to shame. Scent and texture are important cues about whether garden crops are doing well or what they need, also.

  • In the little house on the prairie books, one of the girls went blind as a result of some disease. She was able to assist the family by doing various sewing and handicrafts tasks.

  • A blind person skilled at electronics and radio stuff could be just as valuable as any other HAM or communications geek. Sure, they'd probably have to work on adapting the gear before SHTF, but that's kind of what prepping is all about anyways. If they decide to climb the electronics skill tree and prep appropriate solar panels or whatever to keep their equipment charged, they could also rely on neat tools like simple ultrasonic rangefinders hooked to a speaker to detect how far away objects are and stuff. When recommending gear for a blind person, bear in mind that tiny or deeply inset screws (such as those on the back of many laptops) are extremely challenging to identify and examine by touch, whereas those that stick out or are flush with the surface that they fasten (such as those on many server and PC cases) are realistic to operate without sight.

  • If someone who can't read can labels is prepping food items, they might need to come up with a more creative way to identify the items and years of things in cans. A really cheap embossing label maker might fit the bill, or maybe they make stuff like that for braille? I don't know.

  • In a post-SHTF scenario, the minute a visitor realizes that the person they're talking to is blind, they may attempt to take advantage of them in some way. If I was a blind prepper, one of my higher priorities would be to get into a self-defense class. I would probably choose something focused on hand to hand combat against opponents who might be armed. My expertise in martial arts is sadly limited, but I suspect that the more physical-contact-oriented disciplines would give a sighted person less of an advantage over a blind one. At least, I would personally far prefer to attempt judo blindfolded than karate.

  • I know it's not the case for all, but AIUI some blind people study in a more memorization-focused way than sighted people -- when it's harder to take and read notes, simply storing the information in your head becomes more worthwhile. Look at any culture without widespread literacy and printing presses (or higher-tech analogues), and the people who resemble walking libraries usually have a pretty well-respected role regardless of their physical or visual abilities.

u/SarcasticOptimist · 12 pointsr/GoodValue

Brother DCP-L2520DW or DCP-L2540DW (ADF feeder).

Reliable, super cheap toner (works well with third parties) that only needs a little resetting to work best, and good with Macs, Linux, Smartphones, and Windows.

u/sc302 · 11 pointsr/sysadmin

Instead of cable wrap I make cable flags. I use a brother ptouch.

I found this on amazon super cheap one time and ordered a few. Super cheap meaning between 20 and 40 not over 100.

http://www.amazon.com/Brother-Connectable-Labeling-System-PT2730/dp/B0047T7JMW/ref=sr_1_39?ie=UTF8&qid=1452440985&sr=8-39&keywords=brother+ptouch

You can print labels up to 1" with this ptouch. But like I said, I make flags not wraps, where the two ends touch each other to make a flag. This holds until you cut them off.

Edit: that is the old model, which works great. The new model is below and priced a bit better than the old one:

http://www.amazon.com/Brother-Printer-PTD600-Connectible-Display/dp/B00OCEKCB2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452441538&sr=8-1&keywords=PT-D600

I personally think the VSCO presets are great and I have a few reasons for this:

  • The cost of film keeps rising and it's not easy to justify $8USD every time you want to shoot a roll of Portra 400 or $11USD every time you want to shoot 36 frames of Fuji Pro 400H.

  • The stock of filming is depleting. As the demand for film decreases, the cost goes up. And long with that, the realization that this medium is not going to last forever. Can a person really justify the cost of a good film camera when we are worried about its future?

  • Along with the cost of film, you have the cost of AND RISK of developing film. Mom and pop shops that develop film are scarce and as a result, the only place we can develop are the drug stores that are few and far between. Even these businesses don't see it in their best interest to keep their machines for long. The risk comes when you have some new hire at the store who is clueless about using the machine and can screw up the development of your film.

  • The last part to sharing your film shots come when you have to scan them via a scanner. Film photos and prints are absolutely beautiful when done right but if you want to share them with friends, you need to have a scanner (good ones aren't that expensive) which uses a CCD sensor to scan the images. So when you digitize the images (unless you're using a high quality scanner), you run into the problem you had in the first place, which is wanting the feel of film. Because now you've used a DSLR or scanner sensor to digitize the film. Which does remove some of its aesthetic. So what's the solution? Buy a $500 scanner just for film? Who can justify the cost when, as I said above, the stock is dwindling and expensive.

    So let's concretize this:

Decent quality camera at a trusted online source - $65

Decent quality lens at a trusted online source - $47

5-pack of Kodak Portra 400 at a popular online film photography website - $40 ($8 per roll)

Average cost of developing at a drug store near me in Chicago - $5 per roll ($25 for the 5-pack (180 shots) you shot)

    Mid-level scanner for 35mm negatives - $150

Total cost is $327 USD BEFORE tax.

Now of course as you shoot more film, this cost will add up. $65 for every 180 frames. This is not cheap. Now imagine you go out and get yourself an entry level DSLR or M4/3 camera and lens w/ an SD card. You're talking $500-$600 and you don't have a medium that's fading away.

What does VSCO have to do with this? It's simple. It is the first great piece of software that allows us to come close to the look of film. Maybe it's not perfect but rather than bash it as a tool for Lightroom, I would say we should advocate this type of idea and perfect it. Even have Kodak and Fujifilm create their own presets that they can sell for use.

Some people have even created some examples comparing VSCO vs real film. So when done right, the results can be mind blowingly close (and overall worth it in my opinion) to film.

That being said, I do still love to browse Flickr from time to time and just search specifically for film photos. And if I had the time and money, I might shoot film for fun. But I think in the long term VSCO and other apps like it, are how I will go.

I always heard that the listening experience on a pair of open-back headphones is unparalleled, but never had the means to delve into the world of open-back headphones.

Recently, I decided to take the leap and experience open-back headphones. However, the wallet still did not allow it. Until I found these online.

While they are in no way comparable to the likes of Sennheiser HD600 or HD650s, they are a nice way to experience a more open listening experience on a budget.

Pros:

  • Budget: Cost only GBP40 link

  • Clear sound

  • Good separation

  • 10ft wire with a very strong audio jack and spring around the termination. Also, cable management included!

    Cons:

  • Subpar, plastic build quality; They really do feel like they are going to break if I am not careful

  • Very heavy on the bass

In no way will I ever be using these as my primary pair of headphones, but these are a good option to experience the open-back listening experience on a budget

Sigh....what will you guys do without me? What you need is this: Fujitsu Scansnap ix500. https://www.amazon.com/Fujitsu-PA03656-B005-Image-Scanner-ScanSnap/dp/B00ATZ9QMO
After buying this product.....many women have asked to marry me and have babies. I promise if you're a girl...you'll do the same.

u/ThePunchList · 6 pointsr/learnart

This is the workhorse I've been using for a few years and it's been great. It's loud and kinda slow but cheap and reliable. I've had no issues with it on Win 7 or OSX using any adobe product. It's only big enough for a normal sized piece of paper so if you're trying to do large drawing you'll need an A3 scanner at minimum.

u/Anwhaz · 5 pointsr/shittykickstarters

Oh good, another single function low use device I have to charge. But on a serious note, how could this have run out of money? Not only does it already exist in a variety of different forms, the software has been made by dozens of companies (for many years) and is available on a device that serves more than one purpose. I'm curious as to what the hangup is, and I'm guessing it has to do with a large number of not-quite-necessary purchases.

u/jhajny · 5 pointsr/soapmaking

I get my soap labels from https://www.onlinelabels.com/

I use free boxes from USPS. Order them online from their website. I use regular butcher paper for packing the boxes.

The one expensive item I laid out for was a Rollo thermal printer. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MA3EYC5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I get my 4x6 thermal shipping labels from Amazon as well.

Also, I ALWAYS use https://www.pirateship.com/ for pricing and creating the shipping labels.

Sure. Here's what I could pull from my orders and searching around. This is most of my gear. Not really "homelab" stuff. Have a crap ton of ethernet running around the house.

Waht type of budget are you looking at?

There isn't much that goes into cleaning airsoft guns. A cleaning rod, some microfiber cloths, and a bit of rubbing alcohol is all it really takes for an AEG. For GBBs (I assume his G19 will be GBB) he might need a valve key to disassmeble the mags.

Maybe a gun rack or gun case

Patches are always a good gift

Comfy socks, like Darn Tough, are awesome.

If he uses midcap mags (No winding wheel on the bottom) he might like an Odin Sidewinder. It's an amazing speedloader. They've announced an updated version but I don't know when it's coming out. If he already has a Sidewinder there's a sound dampening thingy for it.

Edit: On a $250 budget you can get him some nice stuff:

Vortex Crossfire II 1-4x24 scope is an incredible scope. I know I'd be ecstatic to get one if I didn't already have one.

Salomon boots are awesome boots. Peoples feet can vary a lot so boots might not be a great gift but Amazon does have a good return policy

A Dye i5
or i4 are great masks. Again, preferences may vary. He might prefer goggles and separate lower face protection.

This might sound stupid and isn't really airsoft related, but I got a label maker and it's been awesome.

u/6thformthrow · 4 pointsr/GCSE

It's the one that is recommended by most/all exam boards for those studying further maths gcse. If you aren't doing further maths gcse, the only benefit that a fancy calculator would have is that it is able to solve simultaneous equations for you (however this would only gain you one mark as you need to show all your working out).

Not doing further maths gcse? this is all you need - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Casio-FX-83GTPLUS-S-UH-FX-83GTPLUS-Scientific-Calculator/dp/B001O3IF9U/ref=sr_1_1?s=officeproduct&ie=UTF8&qid=1502886982&sr=1-1&keywords=casio+scientific+calculator

An Alpha Smart Neo 2 with a nightlight might be an option. Just plug it into a computer later and it'll transfer all the text over. Useful in lots of other situations where you want to write without the distractions offered by modern devices too.

u/doppelgangsta · 3 pointsr/malelivingspace

I bought a Fujitsu ScanSnap to help me go paperless. It's expensive ($400), but the thing is a beast. It's really fast and it can OCR your documents immediately while it scans the documents. So you can turn all your papers into searching electronic PDF's very easily. Buy a shredder, and all those papers sitting around will be gone.

u/johnska7 · 3 pointsr/animation

It's a raised-type label maker. Think about it like this: Before being able to "print" onto the labels, the machine would instead punch the letter from the back into the strip and cause it to 1) be raised and 2) because of the way the material works, the stretching of the material would make the color change (usually to white)... this about how stretching anything plastic has this effect.

A machine that did this looks like this.

u/isladyhawke · 3 pointsr/Journaling
u/VA_Network_Nerd · 3 pointsr/college

My recommendation is to investigate on-campus, student printing options first.

Epson Eco Tank Color @ $230

Brother black & white Laser @ $135

I have a Brother HL-2270DW standard laser (not a copier/scanner) and it works like a champ.
As a general concept I hate all inkjet printers. All of them.

The cost of printer ink is outrageous and completely unreasonable.

But the Epson eco tank series are probably the least offensive in that you can refill the ink tanks individually.

u/RudeTurnip · 3 pointsr/blackberry

If you're looking for a writing gadget that's still portable but a bit bigger, I just wanted to mention the Alphasmart Neo 2. It's basically a full-sized keyboard with a built-in word processor that stores a couple hundred pages of text and that's it. Coincidentally powered by Palm OS. It connects to your PC as a USB keyboard, and when you hit the "send" button, it types out the contents of its text buffer into the word processor of your choice on your PC. I picked one up for $40 on Amazon:

Personal recommendations:

  • AKG K52

Sound: Has a large soundstage, good imaging, clarity and detail retrieval and decent separation. It doesn't over- or under-emphasize the bass or treble. The bass can sound a little muddy in e.g. blasts and explosions. I've explained the sound characteristics further down.

Build: Is closed-back and over-ear. Durable and very lightweight. The cups tilt and swivel, so they should adjust to the shape of your head nicely. The earpads have decent quality and are soft and removable, but they're shallow.

  • Philips SHP9500

Sound: Has a medium soundstage, good imaging, separation and detail retrieval and very good clarity. It doesn't over- or under-emphasize the bass or treble.

Build: Is open-back and over-ear. Durable and lightweight. The cups tilt and swivel and the cable detaches. The earpads have good quality and they're soft and removable, but they're shallow.

  • Superlux HD668B

Sound: Has a large soundstage, I'd say 50% bigger than SHP9500. It has very good imaging, separation, clarity and detail retrieval. It has emphasized treble and a small boost in the mid-bass.

Build: Is semi-open-back and over-ear. Sturdy and lightweight. The cups tilt and swivel. The cable and earpads are detachable. The earpads have bad quality and are shallow, so I recommend replacing them with pads from HiFiMAN.

  • Superlux HD681 EVO

Sound: Has the same soundstage as HD668B. It has very good clarity and good detail retrieval, but has poor imaging and separation. It's warm sounding with deep bass.

Build: Is semi-open-back and over-ear. Durable and lightweight. The cups tilt and swivel. The cable and earpads are detachable. The earpads have decent quality and are soft and detachable, but they're shallow and the drivers stick out quite a bit, so I recommend taking out the loose felt inside the cups, unless you're sensitive to treble, and replacing the earpads with pads from HiFiMAN or pads from Brainwavz.

I also compare to AKG Q701, Audio-Technica ATH-AD700x, Beyerdynamic DT990 (600 ohms), HiFiMAN HE400i, HyperX Cloud, Monoprice Monolith M1060, Philips Fidelio X2 and Sennheiser HD700. I strongly advise against HyperX Cloud / Cloud II / CloudX if you don't need closed-back. I recommend K52 over them for closed-back. My evaluations derive mostly if not only from gaming (so take it with a grain of salt for music listening). I can't emphasize enough that perceived performance in headphones is relative.

    Highly regarded alternatives:

  • Audio-Technica ATH-AD500x (open-back)
  • Status Audio OB-1 (open-back)
  • Status Audio CB-1 (closed-back)
  • Superlux HD681 (semi-open-back)
  • Superlux HD669 (closed-back)
  • Superlux HD662 (closed-back)

    Terminology:

  • Closed-back

Headphones that have cups with solid shells that largely isolate sound from passing in and out.

  • Open-back / semi-open-back

Headphones that have cups with perforations/grills that allow outside sound to freely pass in and sound from the drivers to freely pass out. How loud you hear outside sound and how loud people around you hear the sound emanating from the headphones depend on your volume, of course. The sonic benefit to open-back is generally a big soundstage.

  • Soundstage

Perceived space and environment of sound. It can be compared to virtual surround sound; both attempt to produce the same spacious, three-dimensional effect. VSS can sound more ambient and immersive, which depends on the processor (CMSS-3D, Dolby, SBX, etc.), but it degrades the sound quality and diminishes detailing due to compression from digital processing. You might also experience less accurate imaging and separation if the headphone already has good imaging and separation. Note that a deep soundstage is equally important as a wide soundstage.

  • Imaging

Determines how accurately sounds/objects are positioned across the soundstage. And I mean where they are positioned and not merely what direction they come from. This distinction is important because being able to tell only what direction objects come from isn't good enough to me when playing against people.

  • Separation

Separating individual sounds from a range of sounds. Good separation makes it easier to filter out or discern overlapping sounds from other sounds and track them.

  • V-MODA BoomPro

Connects to the headphone's jack, replacing the headphone cable. Is compatible with Philips SHP9500 and Status Audio CB-1. Has a mute switch and a volume control.

I literally just purchased the Rollo and I love it! I chose that over the Dymo because it doesn't require you to purchase proprietary labels. Other than that it may be a horse a piece. One ironic thing, as soon as I made my choice, I saw a notification that one of my Posh YouTubers was offering a fantastic deal on the Dymo. At least it looked fantastic though in reality once you saw the bottom line it wasn't that much savings. But anyway, I stuck with the Rollo. I didn't buy the label holder, I just keep them in the box behind the printer and it works peachy. This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MA3EYC5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I love that it doesn't need ink. Setup was super easy - it's not quite plug and go but the video is very easy to follow. Simple USB connection.

I bought a flatbed scanner from Amazon a few months ago for ~$60 and used it to clear out an entire 4-drawer filing cabinet. I minimized everything to fit in the built-in file drawer of my desk and it was a WONDERFUL feeling when it was all finished! It was definitely a labor of love but I listened to a bunch of podcasts and broke the scanning sessions into segments so I didn't get too overwhelmed. This scanner only fits up to letter-sized documents so that was a bit of a challenge, but larger scanners are so much more expensive.

Epson V500 is a good cheap scanner to get started with. I started with that one before upgrading to the V800 for 4x5 wet scanning.

Did you get a lot of people asking for the actual image? I had that problem at events, its a tricking balance of being polite saying no but thanking them for either posing or yada yada yada.

u/Macaroni_and_Cheez · 2 pointsr/Genealogy

I have a similar handheld scanner, and while it does work pretty well, it requires a lot of practice to get a good scan. I've scanned things thinking I did a great job of keeping it straight and going the right speed, only to get back to my computer and find that someone's face is stretched out because I messed up ever-so-slightly.

Overall I like the scanner, but a photo of the item in question, taken with a good camera in decent lighting will be just as good. I'd recommend getting a good digital camera and portable tripod instead.

I have this Vupoint Magic Wand.
It uses MicroUSB and also has a MicroSD card. It's pretty good. $70.

If she doesn't give credit because there isn't any scanner warping I could always show her my magic wand. Absolutely SFW.

My favorite thing about the whole anti-plagiarism thing is a good portion of the teachers just steal their assignments off the internet nowadays. It's so easy just to google the question and get easy to copy (and adjust, so I don't get busted by the scanners) answers.

So seeing you have a headset, the A40s. They aren't very good compared to price equivalent Of DT 990's and as well as DT 770s now I would highly suggest upgrading to a headphone and a modmic or blue yeti.

Comparisons

Headsets are generally really bad, the A40s/A50s are ok, they aren't great but not bad. What I would do is move to headphones and a modmic. People have made this switch and love it. The DT 990s are stupid comfy, same for the DT 880s and DT 770s and any Bererdynamic headphones. They are so comfy, huge pads, deep cuffs, comfy, so much.

Open vs closed back

Headsets are generally closed back, however they have some issues with that. They tend to have bad audio positioning in the headset. They don't give spacial awareness and such.

Open headphones leak sound, so people around you can hear. The drivers are directly exposed or slightly covered. However they offer a lot better experience, much larger sound stage, much better audio positioning, and everything better overall.

Mics

Now for headphones, they don't come with mics so you have a few options. You can get a Blue Yeti mic, a modmic, Audio Technica AT2020, or similar. I'll list a few

Have you considered getting a document scanner? A good one can run you a few hundred dollars, but one of my good friends uses one for all of his notes. At the end of every day he takes his stack of notes, drops them into a Fujitsu SnapSanner, and with a few custom Apple Scripts everything gets sorted and uploaded to Dropbox and/or Evernote. Since all of the notes are OCR'ed, indexed, and optimized on the fly, the file sizes are manageable, the scans are very clear, and the notes are searchable. I've been eying this model and will likely pick one up for use this year.

I tried to go the MS Surface Pro route with both the SP1 and SP2 but always ended up giving up due to limitations of the Surface (poor battery life, screen size sucked, the height of the surface itself strained my hand/wrist/arm after a while, and I'm not a huge fan of Windows 8). Looks like the SP3 resolved almost all of the things I didn't like about using the SP1/SP2 (still runs Windows 8 but hey, nothing is perfect).

I had a good brother inkjet and bought cheap ink off ebay...until it leaked ink EVERYWHERE. Now I have a laser printer got it for around 120$ I think on this sub. Am not going back to inkjet. I've never used a scanner - does it needs to be a particularly expensive one to scan it in and be able to read the text? For example, would this cheap Canon one do the job?

Rollo Printer

I like it overall. I ship a lot of 1st class labels and this definitely comes in handy. It can misprint labels at times. Also, if doing a good amount make sure you get the stand for rolls. The rolls aren’t the cheapest either but so much better then laser printer. I only use it for shipping labels, not sure if it could be used for anything else, kind of interested now with what else I could print. Nonetheless, let me know if you have any questions. Completely worth it and never have to worry about ink again! As far as wireless I’m not sure what’s the best and haven’t heard of any good ones. The Rollo has power plug and usb into back of computer. I have a Mac and was really plug and play. It’s small overall but the stand and labels take up more room than anything.

An auto-feed scanner is stupidly efficient. Heck you could buy it from Amazon, finish your scanning and return it...

The one in my office can do 80 pages per minute.

Flatbeds might be 2 pages per minute. Hippo would be scanning for years.

>I'm fairly ignorant of electric systems on boats.

I hope you're comfortable with how basic 12VDC electrics work and are asking about how to wire them in a marine environment.

Preface, I'm not a certified marine electrician but I've done a ton of work re-wiring, custom work on all kinds of sail and power boats.

Tools:
>I do have a cheap harbor freight multi-meter

good, now you're going to need a way to crimp those shitty connectors and some dielectric grease.

Unless of course you want to solder all your connections (this is my preference as it doesn't vibrate loose or corrode as quickly), then follow NASA's soldering method s and yuu'll need some rosin cored solder and and a soldering iron, you'll also need to use a crimp connector without the pre-molded shrink wrap and some heat shrink tubing

Ok... got your tools? great, now for supplies.

You'll need a buss bar on your ground

Measure how much wire you need, (are you re-wiring the mast?) and use 14/2 AWG marine grade wire.

If you're only using 1 battery you can get away with a simple switch like this. From the devices & lights you listed It sounds like you can use 10AWG to connect your battery to your switch then to the 14 gang panel.

You'll need a way to label your wires, I use one of these but if you're doing one job you might want to use something cheaper.

Ok... now on the to the fun part

Plan where you're going to mount your panel and pull a single RED 10AWG from there to your battery shut off switch and another strand from you battery to the switch.

Pull 10 AWG from the battery to the buss bar.

pull all the 14awg from the lights to the panel labeling each 14/2 wire as you go

red goes to the fuse block, black goes to the buss bar then to the negative on the gang block, label everything at the connection points, big red wire goes from battery switch to the bolt on the 14 gang, big black wire goes to the buss bar.

install new things, as each device is hooked up test the fuse and switch, then install the new thing.

Edit: I forgot to mention, use dielectric grease on all metal fittings to reduce corrosion.

edit 1: put a fuse between your battery and shut off ont the red wire

Start thinking only in solutions. Don't dwell on things you believe you can't do, like not being able to read or write. Think about what you can effectively do to write, try things out, different things, different situation, try to find a place where reading/writing for you is managable.

About writing; I have trouble in getting distracted. I write best when I write on an Alphasmart (https://www.amazon.com/Neo2-Alphasmart-Processor-Keyboard-Calculator/dp/B00T0ZG06O) .(Mobile physical wordprocessor with no internet access) This is best done in an empty room or in public.

From what I've gathered, TI appears to be releasing the European version publicly earlier. I think that their primary motivation for keeping these under wraps is so that kids can't use them on primarily US AP exams because stringent proctors might flip out if they see a calculator not on the list. European versions also have some minor differences in their abilities, specifically CAS and exact arithmetic, so it would probably be wise to stick to your local domestic version if you're planning to take standardized exams with it such as AP exams and other CollegeBoard exams. That could be a reason why my delivery was scheduled for today instead of the AP AB/BC exams which occurred yesterday.

Amazon (USA) has a listing here that just got posted recently, because I checked a few days ago and it wasn't available. It says that they're shipping next week (May 20th), but it's a third party seller of which claims to have very positive reviews for TI products, but I'm not sure if I would trust for a (semi-) major launch like this. I think that for the vast majority of people who don't need heavy computation, a first-gen color NSpire will do just fine, and if you really need the power, you should honestly be using Desmos/Wolfram|Alpha on desktop. This product is mainly for looks/status from my first impressions, but feel free to correct if I'm wrong.

Edit: spelling to satisfy the CMB. Also, something of note might be to try searching with double quotes "" because Google treats the text inside only for exact matches, and to use the Roman numeral II because it appears that most sites are adhering to the TI branding of II instead of 2.

I've made do with cell phone photos, which (as you noted) are not ideal, but very portable.

There are small portable "bar" scanners where you feed documents through them. For old, possibly delicate photos this is not great - the rollers can damage the original photo. You really want a flatbed scanner.

In the end, your best bet is probably just to get a compact flatbed scanner - there are a number of models (like this Canon scanner ) that are about the size of a laptop. You can carry it in a regular laptop bag.

Miniature photography is one of my favorite hobbies, for the best results I suggest spending the money on a good light box with diffused sides and top such as this . After that got to lowes/home depo/ harware store get a few clamp lamps and some day light bulbs for them. Put one lamp over the top and one on each side. (I put mine at a 45 degree angle so half goes to the sides and half to the front of the box.) So for $70 bucks max you will have a perfect set up for shooting minis, just remember to do things like focus stacking to get fully focused shots. In my flikr pool is examples of this, almost 90% of the stuff here is shot in a light box with this setup.

This Rocket Jump Film School video on harnessing sunlight might be immensely helpful to you. All you really need are a little planning, some foamcore, and a white bedsheet, and you can get all kinds of lighting effects out of plain old sunlight. I've also seen a lot of people recommend clamp lights, which should be readily available at your local hardware store. Those bedsheets and foamcore boards will be useful with these lights too.

u/TMA-3 · 2 pointsr/Filmmakers

Sure, or you can use clamp lights as well. They sell them at hardware stores. However both lights are impossible to focus (flood/spot) and difficult to shape. If you buy these lights you'd definitely also want some light-shaping materials to make them usable, like bounces, diffusion (this is a good kit, but foamcore is widely available too as a bounce) black wrap, and gels for color correction. Some solid flags with C-stands would also be a very useful investment but if that's outside your budget you might have to improvise. I'd also get some dimmers for those.

my ScanSnap S1500M has held up well for over five years of moderate use, but i seriously doubt it is BIFL; the paper handling is very reliable and much more convenient than using a flatbed scanner; on Mac it used to come with a license for Acrobat Pro, which does a better job of OCR than the ScanSnap software; the newer model iX500 is the same basic design, which takes up a space the size of a sheet of paper on your desk; i have not used Fuji's smaller document scanners, but they get good reviews

  • I freaked out after being let go from my first job out of college. It was in my field of study and I was only there two months. I didn't do anything wrong and I wasn't ever late but I was let go for "not fitting it." The owner said I was too quiet and shy and didn't want the public to get the wrong impression by my introvert personality. I went home and cried like a baby. I felt like a complete failure and like I'd wasted my degree. I called my mom, who drove two hours to see me. She took me to lunch and then let me cry it out. She gave me a pep talk and immediately I felt my pity party go away. She kept me from thinking anything negative and boosted me when I needed it.

I have an Epson V500 that I used to scan in film negatives, slides and printed pictures. I've had it for the past couple years and it has done a good job scanning in all the old family slides and some film negatives that I found.

Though since I've gotten the 500, the 550 and 600 have come out. I don't know what extra features (if any) the 550 has, but it is on Amazon for $169 for prime members.

u/and_yet_and_yet · 1 pointr/cableporn

I'm not sure of a set convention. In my IDFs I do patch panel number - port number (so patch panel 1 port 36 would be 1-36). On my user-facing ports I do closet - patch panel - port (so closet 3, patch panel 4, port 28 would be 3-4-28). I personally use vinyl wrap-around labels from this DYMO printer. They work well, are easy to apply, and are hard to remove. In my closets I'll usually only apply the label on the switch side, kind of redundant doing it on the patch side as well.

In the datacenter itself, I usually follow a pretty strict convention for labeling and cable color. Labeling will usually detail the server (VMHOST-01), the port's function (VMGUEST-PROD), the port's VLAN, the NIC it attaches to, and the switch/switchport it attaches to. Usually on both sides of the cable so I can see at a glance, in an emergency situation, what's going where. How detailed you get is usually going to be determined by how large your DC is. Mine's pretty small (under 20 iron servers, maybe 60 VMs total), but the more detail the better.

I bought the PT-D600 a while back and it’s pretty nice. Best feature is the large, color display that scales to the tape size (up to 24mm/1”), so you know what the printed label will look like (WYSIWYG). I haven’t tried it yet, but supposedly prints at a higher resolution when connected to a computer.

u/Morinaka · 1 pointr/analog

I assume you mean US$, what you get depends on what film types you intend to scan.

If you only ever plan to shoot and scan 35mm i would recommend going for a dedicated 35mm scanner like a Plustek 7200 (3250DPI) for $200, or if you wanted the absolute best scanner short of drum scanning then the $400 Pacific Image Prime Film XA (4300DPI) is reckoned to have the highest DPI scan.

If you just want a general purpose scanner for 35mm and 120 (and documents) then something like an Epson V550 (1600DPI) for $160 is fine.

DPI numbers pulled from this page on the wiki.

I use an Epson V500 with third party film holders for 120 and have no problems. Looks like they've added a half decent 120 holder with the V550 so you shouldn't have to spend more for third party ones.

If it helps any, I've had my Dell C1765nfw printer for 5+ years with no repairs needed. There is a cheaper C1760 model that is a printer only without the copy/scan/fax function.

I am not a heavy user though, average maybe 100-200 pages per month. "Cheap" toner does not exist in low/midrange models like this. At this price range you're still within the "razor and blades" sales model where the device is cheap and the consumables are expensive. That being said, at my rate of use, I only buy toner once a year or less and get it pretty cheap from a local supplier (around $45 per cartridge)

Wow. That's a HUGE image resolution! The scanner looks nice, lots of stuff I don't understand.
Looks like the max paper size I can scan is 8.5 x 11 basically. How thick of paper/ Could I fit a small sketchbook in the scanner or do I have to remove pages from my book?

omg $6.87, you need this:

Boom. I'm a math expert now.

The printers are $90 to $100 if you want scanning capability, lower with no scanner. Look for a WIFI capable model.

The thing I have experienced with inkjets is that if you don't use them regularly the ink carts will dry up and not print well. And you can't print black and white if any color well is empty. But they have color.

The replacement cart is $40, but lasts forever (1200 pages). The printer comes with a started cartridge for 500 pages.

Well I already have the TI-84 I mentioned, which is not CAS capable. If necessary, I can fall back on that.

Just to be certain, you are referring to this bad boy, right?

FWIW, I had bad luck getting the Zebra I bought to work, and even worse luck with the crappy Dymo. I returned both and bought a Rollo label printer and have been incredibly happy. It's fast, reliable, and works with any size and brand labels (I only use 4x6, but the fact that it lets me use off brand labels without empty warranty threats is nice).

The one downside to it is it does not integrate a spool mount. I rigged up my own, that worked well enough, but the last time I ordered labels I switched to fanfold labels and find them much nicer.

Edit: Rollo does offer an optional spool holder also. I didn't like it because it was pretty huge-- bigger than the printer it self. It is designed to be compatible with extra large rolls of labels, but it was a bit big for my tastes.

I use this Brother labelmaker that I got for $10 from slickdeals a while ago.

Before that I wrote on bottles in sharpie and put scotch tape on top of it.

I just got this one and it worked great. I use the flexible nylon for cables and the poly on my rack, no issues.

Not quite a pen, but you should be able to use a portable scanner like this.
It will save text as an image, and then there are any number of free downloadable OCR programs you can use to convert the image to text that you can put into a word document

Yeah, I have this one myself. I use it in conjunction with my laptop to save space. It's great.

I use a pair of these and they've always been good to me. https://www.amazon.com/Status-Audio-Studio-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B01BE1EEEG

Why not just get a handheld label maker? It is super easy and you can typically find this one or similar for $15

What's your budget?
You could buy a used ThinkPad.
An x230 ca go for about £150 on ebay and is an insane bargain. Those things can run win10 just fine, as far back as the x200, which is even cheaper. The keyboards are phenomenal- I had an x230 which unfortunately broke, and now I'm typing on a newer thinkpad.

Or you could get a cheap bluetooth keyboard on amazon- there's a lot of good ones.

If you prefer writing on a pc, you may consider a mini prebuilt pc such as a pi or an intel nuk, and get a keyboard for that.

Perhaps you could use a library computer? Those generally are free to use, and you could save your work on the flash drive.

If your laptop was new/you had a warranty/ it had a barcode of some sort, perhaps you could contact the company it is made by? They may offer you a discount or even a replacement (though that's kinda rare).

Bluetooth keyboard or ThinkPad is my go-to though.

Actually, an even better solution could be a keyboard with a screen. There are some keyboards with small panels attatched that are used specifically for typing documents- they're fairly rudamentary but will work just fine. They can connect via usb most of the time and are very cheap. Try something like this

I hope this helps bro!

Edit: As others have suggested, use a cloud service for backups at least. I use OneDrive as it's built into windows and supports android and iOS, but Google Drive is also reliable and gives you more storage for free.

Any comments on this label maker? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MA3EYC5/

Also, it mentions free UPS labels, can you really get free thermal labels from UPS?

>Capex vs Opex is generally not a consideration when purchasing a $50 - $1000 item. In fact, there usually is a minimum threshold (usually above $1000) before a purchase is placed on a Capex depreciation schedule.
>
>Additionally, many businesses WANT to place things in the Capex bucket, as it defers costs over time, thereby improving short-term profit margins.

This is true -- provided you assume that the manager MAKING the decision is fully aware of this -- all too often they are NOT.

Instead what low and middle level managers ARE aware of is that they have $X in their budget for certain categories of expenses (and for Capex that number is often $0 -- to get any capital expenditure approved {and despite the price typically ANY computer or *peripheral is considered a Capex), they have to get some upper manager's approval -- and the upper managers tend to "grant" such things on more of a political basis than they do on a practical basis, and then within amounts that have been set by their OWN managers via the main corporate budget.)

And if/when money gets "tight" in a business, one of the first things that gets sent down the management pipeline is to END any "extraneous" spending -- which gets interpreted by the low and mid level management as a blanket "no more extra stuff, make due with what you have".

---

*I kid you not, in one company I was "thumped" by both accounting AND the IT department head for buying a couple of PC-attached Label Printers (this kind which at the time were like $100 each) without getting prior approval because the company wanted to call them a "capital purchase" !!! (And worse, the idiot IT department wanted to charge MY department $200 for each one for "support services" -- I told them to go F! themselves and that before I would call them to "service" one of the dang things, I would chuck them in the garbage and buy a new one (and I actually had a third one that I had already bought as a backup just for that purpose) -- I ended up having to get the President of the company involved in order to get them to back down on their bullshit. The brainlessness of some mid-level managers and the dogmatic idiocy of some accounting people is really rather astounding, they will piss away hundreds or thousands of $$ of valuable staff time arguing literally over pennies.)

I have this one, works awesomely, still running off the initial toner cartridge, it’s only black and white, but works fine printing from mobile or making copies.

Forget Inkjet. Forget laser. LED printers are where it's at. Got a color Dell one two years ago. Prints just as good as when I first powered it up. Cartridges are dirt cheap compared to laser, and never dry up, even when you don't print anything for months, since they are in solid state.

While I agree on the Scansnap for the office, it might also be handy to throw one of these: http://amzn.com/B002R0BFAA (VuPoint Solutions Magic Wand Portable Scanner) - in your briefcase. In our office, its very handy for scanning smaller blurbs (like property descriptions).

Its not an obsession, its from doing thorough research. This past July I was in need of a new laptop for work, I tested out the 2015 13" rMBP for 14 days and ended up returning it and then getting an XPS 13 9350. Right now the XPS 13 is the laptop to beat. At $800-900 its an exception value. A comparable Macbook Pro would be $1300, well over $500 for similar specs.

I do the same thing with every electronic purchase. I just spent the last week researching duplex document scanners. I finally ended up with the Fujitsu X500i. Yes its more expensive than what I wanted to spend but its the best value when it comes to performance per dollar.

I'm not pro Apple, I'm not pro Android. I'm anti Fanboy and pro technology.
