Yes! This was a total budget saver! Those photobooth rentals are crazy expensive. We used a simple PVC pipe frame like this one. Now, thankfully we were very lucky to have an amateur photographer friend with a tripod (that we put our iPad mini on) and 4 clip lights like these. We used thick cheap curtains around 3.5/4 sides. We then used a fun (but also cheap!) red ruffle curtain for the backdrop. I DIYed the floating hearts using construction paper, a heart-shaped hole punch (thank you 40% coupon at Michael's), and fishing line. Here's a good tutorial. We also put up one line of string lights to give it a fun twinkle. Lots of plugs, so be sure you have an extension cord! A friend had some photobooth props that we could borrow, but really, you can find those for super cheap if you need to. In terms of actually taking the pictures, we used the timer effect on the iPad camera to delay the shot a few seconds, and then I just posted all the pics to facebook later. Our guests had a lot of fun with it!

  1. Don't take it too seriously. So much of the Christmas/holiday season is already consumed by stress, planning, and execution that people often forget to just enjoy it.
  2. Ask everyone to bring a dish of some kind. That saves you the time, energy, and money of planning the entire meal yourself. Plus it gets people invested into the celebration. Heck, it could even just be finger foods and appetizers and it would be a hit. With a lot of people in a small space, that would eliminate the need for large tables and chairs for eating a big meal.
  3. Christmas/holiday music in the background is a must have. But make sure it's something that won't overpower conversation or be a distraction. Instrumentals are perfect for this. Vince Guaraldi's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is a great place to begin because it's jazz but not, like, experimental jazz which has trumpets and saxophones blaring all over the place. Follow that with Kenny Burrell's "Have Yourself a Soulful Little Christmas" and now you've got a party.
  4. Something that has gained popularity are the selfie/photo booth props used to take pictures. It adds some playfulness and gives people a chance to make some Insta-memories.

I am sure there are other great tips and tricks but having done this for a while, these are the little things that make it easier/special.

We do a massive multi room haunt ever year and clowns are always a part of it. Consider a rickety old colorful booth with a clown in it or hand out candy from it. A well placed old “disco” light works well to light up the porch. Make a bunch of dummies using the tyvek suits at Home Depot and stuff them and dress them like clowns sitting in chairs hanging out and you dress as one also. When they walk up you jump at them. We had circus music on YouTube playing in the two clown rooms. I think it was something crazy like 3 hours long so need to restart often. Lights would trigger and go out it would get dark and the clowns would come to life with knives and guns. They do sell cheap wall covering that have the bloody strips in them. It’s around 5$ but you need a few of them and clear tape them together. When it’s dark they help pull the whole thing together

We used this pack: https://www.amazon.com/Wedding-Konsait-Bridal-Shower-Supplies/dp/B0716JFD9P/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1539027583&sr=8-17&keywords=photo+booth+props

We took out a few that we didn't like (I don't condone smoking or objectifying my bridesmade, lol) but overall they were a hit!

Alright. I would suggest that if you have a smart phone, you film on that. Iphones and Andriods particularly have fairly decent cameras on them. As for computers-PC, you have windows movie maker built in. MAC, you should have Imovie. These will be your editing platforms. If you don't have a smart phone, A cheap video camera will do. A mini tripod will make your life loads easier. It will make it so all your footage does not shake. However, you can make a cheap monopod to fit anything. String, and a metal washer or something else circular and slightly heavy will do. You can find out how to make it here Skip to about 2:45 to see how to do it.

A dry erase board works as a great teleprompter-reminder, guide, silent directions, etc. (It also works pretty well as a bounce, but I am 100% you won't be doing that, haha. But hey if you ever get more into movie making, anything white makes a good bounce!) That's really it (be careful of your audio. You could potentially get a cheap mic that'll pic up noise better, but you should be alright if you're just careful about it!) you should be good to go with all of that.

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I have a question on sourcing backdrops. Specifically, I'm looking for smaller sized backdrops for photographing products located at this website. The background for those photos is one of those rubber roll-ups, but I'd like to use a damask background similar to this. That particular one is quite large for what I'm photographing. Does anybody have any ideas of what I could use?

Ooooh wedding things! We had these at our wedding and EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PHOTOBOOTH, they're awesome! Our guests used them a whole bunch and it made for super funny pictures!

And in the home section, I highly suggest a good pillow. You won't believe the difference it makes! And we do spend most of our life sleeping.

You can't pick your friends nose! ;)

I think photo props are a fun idea and all the guests can take pictures with the birthday boy! Something like this Big Dot of Happiness Stay Wild - Forest Animals - Woodland Baby Shower or Birthday Party Photo Booth Props Kit - 20 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KX6MH3X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TdLOCbDYDDG39

And for stats I'm gonna guess 8 lbs 3 ounces, 19 1/2 inches long and 4:32am!

Happy birthday cute little guy!!
