I use an app called LoseIt to track calories. I have a food scale, but part of using it is just to teach myself to accurately eyeball quantities— ie, once I’ve put 2oz of pasta in a bowl on a scale 30 times, I can probably guess.

Been vegetarian for 18 years (seeing PETA videos as a kid will fuck you up!) and I’m pretty light on the dairy, too. Trying to keep my protein intake super high while I drop weight so I’ve been supplementing with a couple whey protein shakes a day.

Oh!!! The thing that has made IF possible: edamame spaghetti. It’s part of my meal most of my OMAD days, macros on it are unreal. Link— https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H4LBM54/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_e-PxDbSEMRKMK

I HIGHLY recommend Banza Chickpea pasta - I think it has a texture much closer to standard pasta than any black bean pasta I have had.

Gluten free, vegan, high protein, high fiber

Nutritional Value: http://i.imgur.com/ROGyN.png

I eat about 3 servings of this in one sitting and it gives me a good amount of fiber and less calories than a scoop of my protein powder.

You can eat them directly out of the package or boil them in water with some vinegar for a few minutes to get a pretty neutral taste. Add some steamed veggies and some low-sodium asian sauce of your choice (soy/teryaki/ginger sauce) or drop it into any soup of your choice to get a major satiation effect.

You won't be hungry for long after eating this and you'll have taken in very little calories.

If you eat it straight out of the bag, it will have a rubbery texture. The longer you boil it, the less rubbery it becomes. The vinegar just removes all of the extra taste that comes with the packaging.

You can find this at your local health food store. I've seen them in Trader Joes and Whole Foods over in the Chicagoland area. It cost me about $2.50/bag (3 servings). You can buy them in most noodle shapes (angel hair, linguine, fettuccine, spaghetti). You can also buy them off of Amazon for about $2/bag (Free delivery if you sign up for Amazon Prime with a student email address).

Hope this helps with your weight loss!!! I eat this about three times a week in different soups, stews and stir fry.

> chickpeas, beans and quinoa

Those are good. All beans that you can tolerate, lentils, buckwheat, peanuts/peanut butter, hemp/flax/chia seeds, and lots of vegetables. Organic Asia makes a line of bean pastas that are really high protein. Lentil pasta is also great, basically the same macros as lentils.

I cannot stress enough how good these instant noodles are.

u/breedabee · 4 pointsr/vegetarian

The deets:

Banza chick pea pasta (Amazon price is way inflated, I can get a box at Target for like $3 and a bulk box at Costco for closer to $8 the link is for six boxes)

The sauce is a mix of marinara, milk (I used oat milk and it was fine), red pepper flakes, and some basil. I sauteed some garlic before adding these ingredients to the same pot I used to make the pasta.

Veggies: zucchini, red pepper, and kale. (Normally I love a combo of tomatoes, broccoli, and mushrooms but I was trying to use up what I had in the fridge)

Topped with Parmesan cheese (which can easily be substituted to make it vegan)

Once your sauce is combined and heated through, add pasta and veggies to the pot and stir gently.

u/team_pancakes · 4 pointsr/veganfitness

That's going to be pretty hard without a lot of processed foods. If you want to cut, I would just keep the protein high, keep doing protein powder, and otherwise eat mostly whole foods. Beans, lentils, buckwheat, quinoa, oats, wheat, nuts, seeds, vegetables, etc. Soy beans are probably the highest, and you can buy them in bulk pretty cheap.

But some good processed stuff is tofu, seitan (wheat gluten), and tempeh. I also really like lentil pasta and the explore asia bean pastas - they make a bunch and remove some of the carbs in processing, so the protein macros are really high.

u/mangodelilah · 3 pointsr/glutenfree

There are two on amazon - one with soup and one without. [This one is just the noodles] (http://www.amazon.com/Authentic-Japanese-Gluten-Free-8-pack/dp/B00TQPRX78/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451842894&sr=8-1&keywords=kobayashi+ramen). The soup package ones come with two servings in each - so you're paying like $5 a bowl before adding anything to it.

I wouldn't guess all are without checking, but it looks like this one is. It was the first in my google search.

So we're extremely off-topic here from your original "I'm too lazy to do some very basic prep and cooking so this recipe on a cooking subreddit is bad" point, but you can make ramen noodles by cooking regular spaghetti in an alkaline boil.

But again, there are many ramen noodle options that are low sodium like these or these.

This recipe comes down to pressing all of 3 buttons, and making no more than 20 cuts. And even then, you're just putting stuff into a pot, stirring stuff and putting on a lid. I don't understand your issue with simple prep and cooking of this recipe that makes a big ass pot of soup that lasts multiple meals.

My GF is GF and she gets Lotus instant rice ramen from a local store https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HKIBNBU/. A couple of the flavors are decent, I would add some extra spice. I don't think they have anything like a tonkotsu, but its a start.

u/ThunderRice · 3 pointsr/gainit

At my last summer job, we had these noodles that have 20g of protin each, they also have black, green and red bean ones.

Best place I've seen them is here:

Expensive though.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot I was replying to a older post.

u/leleux · 2 pointsr/PlantBasedDiet

I'm not sure where you are or what you have access to but I usually buy mine in bulk from Costco or on sale when I see it at other places so it's a little cheaper. It is more expensive that regular pasta but it usually has more protein like banza. There's a huge selection on Amazon!

I looooooooove these palmini noodles. They’re expensive but worth every penny. They’re a little tangier than real pasta (made from hearts of palm) but they hold up really well unlike other veggie pastas. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0711R3XS4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_4gWJAbFM890CN

I'm pretty sure I've tried these? As well as these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zero-Noodles-Original-200g--Pack/dp/B00E94D7GC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457388119&sr=8-1&keywords=zero+noodles

As far as I remember, they were decent! Good for a stir fry, especially if you want to put some peanuts in, like pad Thai.:D

Unfortunately it seems like Mitsuwa stopped doing deliveries the year I left town, but look for something like the ajinomoto ramen from here https://puu.sh/BtHYZ/eb19795084.png for something frozen

These are dried, but not fried, and also have very good tasting tonkotsu soup bases

I buy it in the organic section of the grocer here. (Ont, Canada) Amazon has it too. I'm not sure what other countries they sell it in, but I imagine there must be other brands too.

This is the type I get:

u/AlaskaGma · 1 pointr/keto

Yes- there are a bunch of brands of noodles out there too. If you have a real “Top Roman” lover trying to go Keto, the angel hair pasta Konjac is a possible substitute for the Ramen noodles.

I am always a bit skeptical of something that comes a remote place far away.., blah blah... but Konjac is a mainstream food in Japan. It is cheap relative to other “strange” foods but expensive compared to its wheat and egg counterpart.

Anyway- most grocers have it in the produce section, not with the regular dry pasta- or they might have it in the organic section. It is almost never with the regular noodles.

u/mewme-mow · 1 pointr/EDFood

Yeah they do. You do qualify because of your anxiety alone, but they can choose not to give it to you. It’s a shit system. Is it the libre you’re asking for?

If you have the money you could try and buy it yourself just to try out. Maybe you can pick up on patterns?

I recommend doing the course. You may as well get on the waiting list and get it done, not end up like me where I’d made such a strong case, done all the BS “why don’t you try this” ideas they’d given me and finally qualified, only to be told I needed to do a course and the waiting list was a year. If you can, befriend a nurse or someone - that’s how I got my pump on the end. She vouched for me and got me on the course, because she didn’t know how else to help me with my sugars as I’d tried everything.

Yeah that sucks!! I used to get that a lot too, honestly no idea why. I think for me it was maybe absorption issues... I started expanding into injecting in my arms which helped a bit. if you’re till on Lantau or something maybe you’re peaking / running out at certain times of the day? You could also try splitting this so give half the amount every 12 hours instead of 24 to try and counteract the peak.

Have you tried going low carb? Honestly that’s made such a huge difference for me, mainly cutting carbs from my evening meal. It means I’m not spiking all night and I don’t wake up super insulin resistant. I eat porridge for breakfast and bread or soup for lunch and snacks and thing, but for dinner I normally have veg with quorn steaks or protein, and these slimpasta packs. They taste like normal pasta (maybe a bit chewier but delicious in stir fry or source), take 2 mins too cook and have 0 carbs in! I get them off amazon and highly recommend them. Good for a quick and easy meal too but honestly it’s made me levels so much better avoiding carbs with dinner. Generally I fry them with some spiralised veg, mix some chilli, ginger, water and crunchy peanut butter in as a sauce and it’s makes enough for two meals.

My first few attempts at GF pasta ranged from "not that good" to "toss the entire thing, no way I'm eating this". Keep experimenting with brands and types. For instance, I love this spaghetti, but dislike the elbow and thicker pastas they have.

I never thought of it before, but HappyChicken may also have a point about quinoa pasta - it does seem to firm back up when it cools. When I make it, I usually do double then refrigerate the already-cooked pasta leftovers for later - toss it with a tiny bit of butter first (TINY BIT) and it won't stick together. That leftover pasta is often really good!

I've has this before. It is called melasma, and if appears sudden, it is usually due to a hormonal change and/or unprotected exposure to UV rays. Medications such as oral contraceptive pills, estrogen therapies and anti-seizure meds like phenytoin or body changes (pregnancy, thyroid fluctuations) can be the culprits.

I developed these suddenly due to a change in birth control brand, and a change in diet (where I ate a lot of "soy" proteins, which are basically phytoestrogens). After my gynecologist changed my birth control to a different brand and I stopped eating a bunch of soy products like these, they went away in a few weeks like magic.

Unfortunately these are fresh noodles I buy from the market, I don't know how to do them from scratch but you might be able to get them shipped.

http://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Ramen-Pack-Spicy-Sesame/dp/B00RI329KG

Not sure if that helps, noodles are tricky. If you need to do them from scratch I would try looking up some techniques and see if anything looks doable. I think you start with a cylinder shape of dough and then stretch it and fold it on itself until its thin enough, if that makes sense.

u/iron-on · 1 pointr/FODMAPS

I think all ancient harvest are quinoa and corn. I've had good luck with them

u/brizzles · 1 pointr/loseit

What are they made of? Are they the same as shirataki noodles? If so then the texture is a bit weird, but you get used to them if you cook them with sauce/put them in soup, etc.

Also I have found that the fettuccine shape is the best texture wise.

u/c0m47053 · 1 pointr/ketouk

These look like they are pretty much the normal Konjac based noodles. I have had these in the past (Slim nooodles : Amazon link )

They are not bad, but not that much like flour noodles. They smell really bad when you open the packet, but washing them a few times in warm water sorts that out. They are pretty good if you cook them in a sauce or soup, as they pick up the flavor. They don't have any noticeable flavor of their own.

I would say that if you have not had them before, do not buy this Groupon. Try them out in a smaller buy from amazon or Holland & Barrett
