If you buy a gun do your research to figure out the right one for you before you purchase. Don't buy a gun in Seattle, the additional tax isn't worth it. Just take the drive north to a place like Precise Shooter in Lynnwood for example.

Guns should not be used for stopping crimes where your or other lives are not at risk. If your car is being broken into, someone is looting your shed, whatever you should stay in your home and call 911. There are classes you can take that will give you the only justifiable reasons to use a firearm.

Almost if not all shooting ranges allow you to rent before you buy. I would recommend that you take a training class before you rent or purchase if you don't have any training already. Also an FYI most shooting ranges will not allow you to rent a firearm if you are alone, so you will need to bring a friend to do so.

West Coast Armory for example has a number of classes right up your alley. Just as an FYI I don't work for them nor am I affiliated in anyway. Two that would be good for you would be:

Right On Target - Entry Level Handgun

Right on Target- Introduction to Home Defense

In addition to a firearm, if you own your home or condo there are some easy steps you could take to make it more secure. Things like Door Jamb armor for example make it almost impossible for someone to just kick down your door and be in your home in seconds. If you have someone coming into your backyard at night you can get motion activated lights and even sprinklers.

Get a safe for your firearm to store it in while you are not at home.

If you do not own your home, condo or apartment, there are devices you can buy to make it a tiny bit harder to run off with, without having to bolt it to the floor. Like this which is designed for a vehicle, but you could use the attached cable to wrap around something that cannot be easily destroyed like the headboard on your bed, the metal frame of a large piece of furniture, or a sturdy metal railing.

If you have questions places like /r/homedefense has a number of people that would be willing to help answer questions. /r/guns has a great FAQ that might answer a number of your questions as well.

My 2c on this-

A simple way to 'test' this is to replace 'cat' with 'dog'. IE, your neighbor has a DOG that comes in your yard, poops on your lawn, digs holes, and falls asleep on your furniture triggering your allergies. Would that be considered acceptable? I doubt it.

Also, while it may be 'outside', the difference between the cat and random animals is the neighbor has control over the cat, IE they can simply keep the cat inside (which is better for both the cat and the environment, as the cat is exposed to fewer dangers and the cat won't be hunting local birds and critters).

So speaking legally (for the USA at least), you could probably take legal action to get them to contain their cat, and/or you can do whatever you want to the cat on your property (including trap it and make them pick it up at the local animal control). I am glad you are not going to harm the cat- kitty doesn't understand property lines.
Point is though, the neighbor doesn't know that. So if the neighbor says 'oh it's 'outside' it's no big deal and you have no control', simply point out that you are allowed to trap and/or poison any animal that wanders onto your land because 'it's outside and it's no big deal, people poison rodents all the time and if a cat eats the rodent bait that's not your problem'. This might be more of an escalation than you want, but the option is there, and perhaps it would make the neighbor realize that kitty is actually in danger outside.

However to start, I suggest get something like this. And keep some Super Soakers in and around your house. The idea is so the cat learns 'come on Westerberg's property = get soaked'. That way kitty will quickly learn that your property is no longer a fun place to hang out. Water is not harmful to the cat, but it is highly unpleasant.

I've heard that certain scents, such as mint or citrus, can also help repel cats. A bit of essential oil sprinkled around might be the way to go.

I found something even better, they're not even that expensive

u/TorontoCO · 25 pointsr/kingcobrajfs

Also you can order 18000 live ladybugs from amazon. I might send that plus a large terrarium. You know they'd get out and generate hours of hilarity as he tries to rid his house and neighbourhood of them. https://www.amazon.com/18-000-Live-Ladybugs-Guaranteed/dp/B00YFE9KN0

You could get a motion activated sprinkler. Super easy to use and humane. Worth the price in entertainment value alone.

u/SirMildredPierce · 22 pointsr/Augusta

There are going to be a lot of recommendations from people to hire exterminators, but I would recommend getting the equipment and doing it yourself.

One of the issues is that most exterminators come around once a month, but the life cycle of most roaches is half that, so even if you catch one wave of them, the eggs they are carrying are unaffected and will hatch, grow up, and reproduce within a couple of weeks.

There are basically three things you need to get:

Get some Fipronil Gel: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GESOI6 Super cheap online, and 10 times more powerful than what you can get at the local store. This is what the pros use. Put this in places like under cabinets in the kitchen, near water sources, etc. Roaches like to rest in warm places. Anyplace in the apartment that is warm is a likely base for the roaches. This might be lighting fixtures, around the hot water pipes. Worst of all they might be inside your electronics such as your television or computers. They also like tight spaces, spaces they can just barely get into. Loose papers, inside the spines of hardcover books, the spaces between a shelf and the wall, places like that. Look for the roach shit, that's always a sure way to recognize where they have been hanging out.

The Fipronil on it's own is a cheap solution, but it's not the best. To really go to war you have to invest in a good sprayer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009KM25W You can go for a cheaper one, but I would suggest it's worth the investment. If you solve the problem in the long run, you can easily resell it and recoup most of the cost, though I recommend holding on to it. Remember to let the pressure out when you are done with it, you don't want to ruin the rubber seals on it.

Fill it with Acephate Insecticide: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005662Z6A and spray down the apartment twice a month.

I would also recommend a powerful plugin handheld vacuum such as this: https://www.amazon.com/Eureka-EasyClean-Lightweight-Handheld-71B/dp/B0006HUYGM/ It's powerful enough that it eviscerates the roaches as they get sucked up. A battery operated vacuum is weak enough that they don't die and they just crawl back out.

Lastly, you have to develop the discipline to starve them. They wouldn't be growing in number if they didn't have something to eat. You have to clean *every day*. Everytime you use a dish, immediately wash it after you are done with it. Open up a can of spaghettios? Wash the can out before you throw it away. Only have one trash can in the apartment and put Fipronil in it and keep an eye on it. Don't wait for the bag to be full before you empty it out. Don't leave loose papers around, throw away junk mail immediately. Got a leaky faucet? Get it fixed. Turn off your electronics and unplug them if you aren't using them. Don't leave lights on longer than you need to.

This is *your* war, you have to win it on your own. If you wait around for the apartment manager, or an exterminator to win it for you, you'll be waiting a long time. Why pay someone else to do it when you can use the same exact products they use, and do it yourself.

u/ChamuelSophia · 20 pointsr/Beekeeping

Something like this. That particular trap works very well with yellow jackets if that's what you're dealing with, but I can't attest for anything else. You want something that has a carrion-scented bait (meat) because bees will not be attracted to that but it will make wasps go ape shit. Can do some home-made ones I'm sure if you google it.

u/realslacker · 16 pointsr/camping

Also, the 98% DEET might melt synthetics... so be careful about what you spray it on.

You could also check out Permethrin clothing treatment products. This stuff works great to repel ticks and mosquitoes, just make sure you follow the directions.

For another option, I've had good luck with ThermaCELL clip on repellant.

u/daviannamorgan · 14 pointsr/WTF

My husband and I got ours at Lowe's. Amazon has them for the exact same price. It's called the Rescue Resusable W.H.Y. Trap for Wasps, Hornets, & Yellow Jackets.

My husband was excited when ours caught 10. I need to show him this one.

u/RonSDog · 12 pointsr/NewOrleans

As /u/fallacybuffet mentioned, diatomaceous earth is a great non-toxic way to battle cockroaches. It's food grade, so you and your cat can still eat the roaches it kills!

For a more toxic solution, I bought Tempo Ultra SC insecticide to spray all along the outside of our house. You'll need a garden sprayer, too. The morning after I first sprayed the outside of our house, I found a dozen dead cockroaches on our sidewalk. That was a month or two ago, and I have only seen one cockroach inside since then. It was dead.

I also bought Maxforce FC Magnum get bait. I noticed a swarm of roaches using our backyard picnic table as a community center at night, so I spread the gel in the cracks of the support beams and a few other spots in the backyard cockroaches would seem to frequent.

We never had a huge cockroach problem, but after we saw almost six in 24 hours, my girlfriend really started freaking out and drastic measures were needed. These solutions have worked for me.

u/acid_clown · 12 pointsr/CasualUK

Get yourself an Executioner Pro. I keep it by the bed and if I hear one of those fuckers buzzing around I wave it about until it makes contact with a satisfying bright blue spark and a loud SNAP. End of mosquito.

u/modrei · 8 pointsr/kingcobrajfs

i think there was a discussion about 10k ladybugs at one point (possibly 18k)

u/dyeabolical · 8 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

Can verify. We used to have the scarecrow brand one for years and replaced with this cobra brand one
last year. Will spray everything from cats trying to mark your house to obnoxious children who like to throw things at your fence.

u/youarecaught · 7 pointsr/jacksonville

Even if there is an ordinance it will be near impossible to enforce. Install a motion activated sprinkler and appropriate signage to deter dog walkers and strays alike.

u/SummaryExecutions · 7 pointsr/pestcontrol

Ask what chemicals they're using. The fact that they're not baiting for them is concerning, and if they're not using an insect growth regulator (IGR) in conjunction with the spray, then I'd drop them.

You can get you some Maxforce too and treat it yourself. If you're not keeping any food out for them to eat, they should prioritize the bait.

u/chasonreddit · 7 pointsr/SmartThings

Not exactly what you are looking for, but they sell stand alone systems for exactly this. (Well not exactly they are made for geese) Upside is they are instantaneous, you can focus the motion detection, and you water your yard at the same time.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MF8Y2O4

u/BugLuv79 · 7 pointsr/whatsthisbug

Had the same issue, this product helped a ton! Gentrol .
It’s a growth regulator. Keeps the babies from maturing and the adults from creating more babies. Replace the discs every three months or so. Each disc covers a decent sized area (sq footage wise) with the hormone distribution. Safe to have around food and pets.

We had pest control come to our apartment but their chemicals didn’t do much. The hormone discs have worked wonders.

u/gdeadfan · 7 pointsr/homeowners

I can say from a couple years of experience now that Advion ant gel does amazing work

u/tjgrant · 7 pointsr/RBNLifeSkills

My landlord's exterminator uses this stuff, it's amazing; you apply it every 3-6 months, dab it in corners of cabinets and rooms but it works within a week or so and you won't see roaches for a long time:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004GESOI6/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1413543143&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40

Good luck!

u/elvendude · 6 pointsr/legaladvice

That sucks. Maybe look into seeing how much it would cost to get just a piece fumigated? I've had friends who had luck with https://www.diatomaceousearth.com/diatomaceous-earth-bed-bugs/ - It might be enough to get the whole place clear if you're really lucky. Bonus: it's really cheap, so you can try it now and only be out $10.

Edit: https://www.amazon.com/Safer-51703-Diatomaceous-Crawling-Insect/dp/B01D60GAW2

u/Byzie08 · 6 pointsr/LifeProTips

We too use products like these. The trick is to apply the product where you are seeing the roaches. Nooks and crannies, dark places where they hide. I usually use some form of Maxforce. A little bit goes a long way, its safe enough for pets since they shouldnt get to it anyways and the active indgredient is only .05% of the product. You'll see more roaches than ever at first, but pretty soon you'll only see dead ones. Good Luck!

u/PeptoBismark · 6 pointsr/boston

The bug zapper tennis racquet is very satisfying, gives a nice audible and visual zap when you connect. It just stuns those flies though, you have to follow up and squish them.

KATCHY Indoor Insect Trap: Bug,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B6RZP4H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Pads last a while. Place near sink or in bathroom that's having the problem. Turn off lights. I have 2 and move them around as needed. Also catches larger flies.
Kill them all.

u/Bullywug · 5 pointsr/ChapoTrapHouse

That's absolutely awful. If you can afford $10 for diatomaceous earth, you can sprinkle it around you bed and it cuts the shit out of the bugs as they crawl over it.

If you can't, add it to a public wish list and send me a dm.

u/flying_trashcan · 5 pointsr/Atlanta

This is the stuff you need. I'd also supplement it with DemonWP. You can use this stuff in a garden sprayer to treat the perimeter of your home.

This 1-2 punch is your best shot against the roaches.

u/waylandprod · 5 pointsr/orangecounty

Yeah, caught those little suckers with this : just a UV bulb fan and sticky pad. Since these things will note you and then come back again, they just need to die. I work in a small office in a back house so they are bad bad if they find their way in.

u/chimichangaman07 · 5 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

So I'm not the only one!

Also, if you really wanna get rid of the problem, diatomaceous earth is completely safe for pets and humans (I actually ate some before putting it in my 1 year old's room) and works amazingly. It's not an instantaneous kill, but they carry it back to the colony to prevent future infestations.

u/Psychic_Jester · 5 pointsr/BlackPeopleTwitter

Not sure of roaches in NY, but can give some help from FL experience.

INC WALL OF TEXT

Usually its german raoches infesting inside. Two things you want to get is max force and Gentrol. you can get onslaught to mix with the gentrol and give it a longer lasting effect, up to you but not 100% needed. place tiny dabs of max force about 1inch apart all along the bottom of the counter top where it meets the cabinet. Place it around plumbing, and the bottomside of upper cabinets if you have them. Also, take off outlet plates and place some dabs in there as well. pull out the fridge, stove and dishwasher and clean out really well as that is most likely the place the main nest is (the motor for the fridge/all around the area where the dishwash fits, same with stove) Now light that shit up with the spray mix (believe its 1.5 oz getrol/gal water, and 1/2 oz onslaught/gal label says correct mix %) dont spray anything above the counter top. spray the back of the fridge, the wall and baseboards, any cracks you can. Again dont spray it anywhere your gonna put food directly or down any drains. if you want completely empty out cabinets of dishes and you can spray in there as well. wait until its dry to put stuff back. You can do the same for the bathrooms, but usually the main problem will be in the kitchen. Its gonna have a strong smell to it for a little bit, but open some windows for a cpl hrs, or leave for a bit but it shouldnt last long. If you spray the entire house or use a shitload of the spray it could be a lot worse. IMO if you use more then 1/2 gal on anything below a 3/bed 2/bath house/apartment, you used WAY to much. 1/4 gal should be plenty for most jobs.

German roaches eat EVERYTHING. their own droppings, other dead roaches, etc. Now max force is a 3 stage killing bait. Meaning that you are not going to see every dead roach, some will die in the walls, between things, everywhere. The bait infects one roach, so when it dies, it will also infect the roacches that eat it, and so on until its finally diluted to not be lethal.

The gentrol is a growth regulator so it attacks reproductive organs and prevents them from laying more eggs. It also prevents younger roaches from growing up at all and stunting their growth. so eventually it will get to a point where all you see are baby roaches.

After about 2 weeks depending on how bad it is you may have to do a reapply, like I said you will get to a point where its only babys meaning it should be over soon. clean up any dead ones you see in the open, dont leave any food/water out overnight. no dirty dishes in the sink or left out to dry, and dry the sink out. no pet food/water out over night.

or you could just hire a pest guy to do all that bs for ya (minus the cleaning)

Also I know the prices on the pesticides are high, but its worth it.
if you wanna find generics look for products with the same active ingrediant, might be cheaper.

max force = fipronil
gentrol = hydroprene
onslaught = benzeneacetate

If you’re worried about pets, look into this stuff. We use it for roaches/ants and works great. You just kinda sprinkle it wherever you see roaches. They’ll walk in it and it basically kills them by dehydrating them.

Are you sure your pets are the only ones suffering, or is part of the issue the other humans in the house? Advantage can protect animals much of the time, but if fleas get in, sometimes it's on humans, sometimes other yard and garden visitors, and on it's own will provide only moderate protection for the animal, not the humans, and doesn't do a very good job of dealing with the potential for fleas to find temporary food on humans and lay some new eggs.

I wouldn't want to use either of those and feeding your cat/dog insecticides if you weren't already targeting every possible not-inside-your-cat aspects of flea control first. Are you vacuuming every inch of the floor weekly or more frequently (and if you don't have a bagless vacuum, have you put a chopped up flea collar in it to make sure fleas/eggs vacuumed up stay dead)? Are you washing your bedding weekly in hot water? Have you treated the yard and parts of the house off-limits to pets with diatomaceous earth? Advantage might actually have worked for the animals, but then the fleas find a new target (maybe you or someone in your family) and and as long as they can find a little something to feed on, keep on laying eggs. If it seems constant, sometimes animals don't bring them in, but people do, from parks or other outdoor areas or someone else's house or yard where fleas were present, so make sure you don't have another source of "re-infestation."

Lufenuron in Program is pretty toxic and won't help adult fleas, so you still have to use Advantage, it will just prevent some of the female's eggs from hatching if she bites the animal first. (Won't help much at all if the animal is not suffering from fleas but the house is). It's an active ingredient in Sentinel which has been on the market for a long time.

Spinosad is a valuable insecticide in the garden, and you could choose to spray it (http://www.amazon.com/Monterey-LG6135-Contains-Spinosad-32-Ounce/dp/B002BP12LI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404433582&sr=8-1&keywords=%22monterey+garden+insect+spray%22) in your yard now and see if it has an effect (right up the doors). It would need to be repeated once in a 30-day period. It is considered relatively safe for this kind of application (but recommendations for limited application of to avoid insect resistance is a big deal in the garden world), and you could do it tomorrow (OSH and Home Depot sell it, Lowes does not). Side effects for Comfortis is most often vomiting, and if there is anything most pet owners need less of, it's pet vomit, plus that means they are clearly suffering if temporarily, and you might be forgiven for the dreaded vacuum running more easily.

Just trying to provide some alternatives, I know I am tasty as heck to fleas and cannot stand them, and despite indoor-only cats, I have dealt with many infestations. Sometimes by the time you see them, you're already lunch.

do it yourself , i had a big problem a few years back and havent seen a roach since .. here's a list of stuff i used and had plenty left over but never needed it.. 1st i cleaned everything and everywhere , i removed light switch cover and took pretty much everything out of my kitchen .i used the stuff below and just cleaned everyday.

For thirps use spinosad as a spray, two times three days apart. It will kill them. Spray every leaf underside and top. Use a good sprayer, it will save your hand. Preventative measure sprays are neem and Azamax. I know we all want to learn about the best nutes and how to maximize our yield, but we need to learn about the pests that want to kill out plants. Thrips, mites, and root aphids. Root aphids are interesting as the fliers might look like simple fungus gnats.

The glue traps or snap traps made me too sad to think about but these I would just take a dab of peanut butter and a morsel of some type of food and put it towards the back and it pretty much instantly caught one at a time and then I’d take them a few miles from my house and set them free in the woods. Just sit them along the high traffic area and make sure it’s flush w the wall cause they like to stay close to walls. Worked like a charm!

If you're concerned about roaches then I suggest treating your home with Advion Cockroach Gel Bait. This will kill them.

Also, use an IGR (insect growth regulator). You will spray (or place disks) around your home and the product will last for a few months. The chemicals will disrupt their ability to breed by rendering them sterile.

I've used both Martin's IGR and Gentrol Disks successfully. The disks are more expensive and I prefer the concentrated liquid but either should work.

I suggest using both products at the same time. If you choose another IGR just double check that the chemical is intended for the pest you're treating - some only treat fleas, some treat lots of pests, etc.

If you have the big water bugs that fly (wood roaches) then they just naturally make their way inside.

Now if you have the small roaches (German roaches) then that is a sign of an infestation.

Order some of this from amazon and spray it around the outside perimeter of your house where walls meet ground to kill all wood roaches that enter.

If you have an German roaches then spray a very light amount around the inside of your house where walls meet the floor and in unused places like under the sink and behind furniture.

Also if you have ants it’ll take care of them too.

One package has lasted almost 2 years here and I spray about 1-2 times a month outside.

My daughter had pet dumbo rats that got loose in her room and it took 3 weeks to catch them. They pooped and peed everywhere and it made her quite sick with a respiratory infection!

We put out humane traps that we got from Amazon to catch them with banana and peanut butter in them for bait. It took about 3 tries to get themrat trap both.

We then used this cleaner to get rid of the left over feces and urine smell. enzyme cleaner

And the fruit fly infestation needs addressed ASAP! Make sure there is no standing water in the kitchen or other sinks, food left out, fruit left out uncovered, and you hang up multiple strips and change them often and move them around so they don’t start avoiding them. We used this kind over our rabbit cage and sink. fruit fly trap

All you can do is disinfect, deep clean, air the place out and really focus on humanely catching the pet rat and rehoming it or getting it a safe cage/aquarium home with lid.

Good luck and I hope you can get things improved for you and everyone. ❤️

I'm not sure how big your problem is but I'm also in Michigan and had this issue last fall. I kept seeing 1-3 ants in my house every day. Over a few weeks I tracked down where they were coming from and going to and applied this crazy gel outside my house and near their nest entry point. It worked great. It clings to the ants so they bring the poison back to their nest and the result was apparent. Any ant I saw after application looked like they were drunk as a skunk and quickly died.

Hi there! Former Terminix route manager for Louisville's west end here.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004GESOI6/

this is the most effective legal way of controlling a roach infestation, from severe to minor. Please do not use repellant based sprays like black flag, ortho home defense etc. Infact, if it uses bifenthrin, deltamethrin, or cyfluthrin, you are wasting your time when it comes to controlling roaches.

Do not boric acid either, messy and useless. Do not "bug bomb" or fogger. If that stuff worked, pest control would not be an industry. Fipronil based bait is the way to go, and there are a number of good tutorials for effective bait application techniques and guidelines on YouTube.

As for pest control services in area, IMO Terminix charges waaaay too much now, and are pretty much the Comcast of pest control. Orkin is the Time Warner. OPC barely trains their techs, and certainly doesn't pay them well, so you can expect that in your service. Smaller outfits can deliver service on par with what you pay, but there is no way to generalize them.

Hope that helps, pm me if you have any questions!

We've been having massive issues with mosquitos getting into the house in the dozens, tons of gnats and fruit flies, and random other bugs. I bought one of these and put it in the hallway and it has been hands down the best bug killer I have ever tried. It gets pretty much all of them, not just certain types. We still have a few we find in the house, but I feel like it's getting around 80% of them. This is the sticky pad after a week of running it.

I use Demon WP, https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003JUF6IE/ref=sxts_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1505268785&sr=2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65, keeps roaches and all kinds of stuff under control. Bought a house and had an infestation in the laundry room(outdoor room attached to back porch). Knocked it out and has kept them gone. I see one every few months or so, which lets me know I need to retreat the area but never baby/juveniles which is good news. Just get a sprayer, and mix with water. Spray any crevice the size of a dime or bigger....I spray around the base of my house's walls inside and out and then around windows and doorways. Then under fridge, dishwasher, back of cabinets, etc....indoors it lasts indefinitely and I believe outdoors it has A 3month lifespan. Not sure about that, like I said whenever I see one I re-treat that area and am usually good to go!

u/Moofuri · 2 pointsr/Adulting

Get insect growth regulator. It renders them infertile and stops the cycle. Roach bait/gels don’t address the babies that pop up every 30 days and the cycle just repeats itself. Roaches are tenacious jerks that can survive on just a smidge of grease and a drop of water. You could be clean but if your neighbors aren’t and there’s a small gap between the wall and floor/cabinet or in my case a gap where the water pipe comes in through the wall they will make there way through the gap.

I recommend the following product because there’s no messy spray and it’s easy to install, get some bait gel like the one the other commenter mentioned and put a few dabs onto this device to ensure that the roaches come near the station.

Please note that this device does not kill roaches and should used in conjunction with bait.

Thrips will make your leaves look like they have silver spots. They live under the leaf then come up on top to nibble and shit all over your plant. If you gently turn a leaf over that has issues and look at the underside, you'll notice a small little orange worm moving around. If you have Thrips, aka see the little orange fuckers under the leaf, buy this spray and spray the fuck out of your plant. I'm talking drench that bitch, top to bottom. That should clean it up in a day and is organic and non toxic. I've even sprayed buds with this with no issues. I'd have to see some full leaf shots though, super zoomed in shots are a bit pixelated, hard to tell. If it's fungus gnats, you'll want to stick some gnat stix , stick those around the base in the soil and it should keep them at Bay until you harvest

  1. Moose - run away, climb or hide behind a tree. True for all big herbivores. Bison and cows will fuck your shit up. Leave them alone.
  2. Grizzly Bears - stand your ground, use your bear spray. You brought bear spray, right?
  3. Weather - I've seen it snow in the Rockies in every month but August. Lost a friend for over an hour when 6 inches fell in about 30 minutes in a freak storm. In September, about 7500'.
  4. Giardia - just make sure to check upstream for floating dead things, always gather water where it's running, not where it's stagnant, and use a good filtration system like a Sawyer.
  5. Fucking Mosquitoes - they have a short window of opportunity - only a few months - so they are very ravenous and evil. Cover yourself with a good bug spray, and get a Thermacell.
  6. Falling - Be careful out there. Lots of folks get hurt taking unnecessary risks. See all those boulders scattered on the ground? Look up. That's where they came from. Don't be jumping up and down on that ledge like Wile E. Coyote.

Get Maxforce, Shit works kills them for months.

Is better and cheaper, Magnum is super powered stuff and fucking destroys them.

I'm going to add to this since I work for a pest control company:

Maxforce roach bait: Shit works fantastic! Put a kernel sized glob in crevices where you see roach poop and for good measure put them in the hinges of your cupboards.

Diatomaceous Earth: This is not the same brand of it that I use, but it should work great and it's safer than Boric Acid. Put this behind your stove, fridge, and if you can behind the dishwasher. Put this in all crevices and if you have a way to do it you can make a THIN line of it along any baseboard where you think they're coming in from.

I also use Nyguard IGR and I mix it with a product called Demand CS normally. This usually takes care of a roach problem really quickly as long as you maintain the place pretty clean.

Unfortunately if you live in an apartment complex with a lot of these issues, it's hard for a technician to spend a lot of time fixing your problem as opposed to you paying someone to come take care of it. I've seen 400+ unit complexes only have one tech on call who handled 30-40 units a day only once a week. All they care about is keeping records that they have someone going to the units. Not so much taking care of your issues. Also, roaches will come in from other units and sometimes your neighbors will be the source. Threaten to call the county or whoever in order to make the complex manager give your unit priority. Generally a tech needs about 15 minutes MINIMUM to treat a unit well. If a large complex is cheap enough, they will only have one guy treating about 6-8 units an hour which amounts to the guy just spraying, putting some bait down really quickly, and leaving without really caring because he's trying to deal with all those units in such a short amount of time.

edit: for some reason, every time I pressed enter twice, it submitted my comment after adding a link.

You'll thank me later. It'll take more than one treatment depending on how serious your infestation is, but I have been using this with great results.

How about a motion activated sprinkler like this?

I found gel baits extremely effective.

Japanese roach traps imho never work and they can suck my balls.

If you haven't already tried it, give Ortho Home Defense a shot.

https://www.amazon.com/Ortho-Defense-Insect-Perimeter2-Comfort/dp/B01N7KSXHX

Spray along the joints such as floor/walls, ceiling/walls, wall/wall and across the entry into your garage. This usually lasts for months in my garage.

u/memphisbelle · 1 pointr/philadelphia

this gel is what you need. i did a bunch of research several years ago when i moved into a new apartment and had german roaches. this shit works wonders, put it in the crevice under your baseboards and the perimeter of where they are.

recently i was talking to a pest control guy and when i told him what i used he said that was the best stuff to help contain them.

u/not_charles_grodin · 1 pointr/Charleston

We bomb our house thrice a year with these and spray the foundation and around the windows and doors with this. Between the two treatments, we never see them inside.

u/Johnzsmith · 1 pointr/WTF

Yes. I would suggest that you use a roach bait that contains a chemical called Fipronil. Boric acid also works, but Fipronil works better and helps to kill the roaches that end up eating the roaches killed by the Fipronil in the first place. Here is what I suggest using.

u/Grayswandir · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I had the same problem last week, tiniest ants I've ever seen.
Researched options, and bought this stuff - Combat Ant Killing Gel with Fipronil.

Squirt it in the cracks where you see ants, and try to find the main entrance to their hive. It doesn't kill the ants immediately, they take it back to the hive and feed the others there. Then in a couple days the poison kicks in.

Tried it and 2 days later no more ants. This stuff is amazing.

Rig up a remote sprinkler to movement outside?

Here, they sell them:

You should probably pick up one of these whatchamacallits: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001H1GRPI

Your lease will say who is in charge of pest control. Usually it's the landlord and should be with something like Carpenter ants.

Just FYI, there are tons of different types of ants, not all eat food. If you have the little guys, that stink when you squish them (Odorous House Ants) they're a PITA. Use Terro, don't kill them outright, all ants need to be able to take the bait back to the nest to kill the colony. Get a scarecrow sprinkler! Startles the crap out of deer and does a really good job of keeping them out. Fences only do so much good because deer have a ridiculously good vertical leap

u/thegoldenone777 · 1 pointr/lifehacks

I bought these off Amazon some months back and they work great with Peanut butter.

it's been a couple years since i've had to use it, but this stuff is fantastic.

u/WorkKrakkin · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Do you know what the good products are? I pay $40 a month for pest control and when I told them about carpenter ants they said "there's nothing we can do". So I had to cancel but I bought some of this stuff

u/TomBombadil75 · 1 pointr/Vermiculture

This stuff got rid of my carpenter ants: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TXFE4RI

NTA The guy was a jerk, and he's probably that defensive because he knows he's in the wrong. FYI, our current rental had cockroaches when we moved in. There's this stuff called MaxForce gel that you spread under counters and in corners that took care of them right away. Good luck.

u/burnie_saunders · 1 pointr/microgrowery

the ph pen i use is a bluelab although ive used an oakton both are good. You'll want calibration solution for it as well.

other gadgets? I like to use a paint stirrer on a portable drill to mix ferts. a couple of quality spray bottles and a pump sprayer is nice to have on hand.

Treat for common pests systemically don't wait for that oh shit moment. I treat all my young healthy plants (before they go into bud) with a combination of OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) approved products: Azamax (neem extract for mites),Serenade (powdery mildew and mold) and Monterey Garden Spray (leaf miners and budworms). I use each of these at least once each, often if you wait to treat until you notice problems, it's too late to get optimum results.

u/OnlyForTheBold · 1 pointr/houston

Get some Demon

I spray it two to three times a year. Nothing stops them 100% though.

I’ve never had luck with store bought stuff. Advion is the only thing that has worked for me.
