This pillbox is designed for people with memory/attention issues

u/caseigl · 7 pointsr/DIY

I would just go with a commercial solution for this. There some areas you just don't want your DIY skills to fail you, and mixing up meds for your grandparents is probably one of them.

More pharmacy specific than office-y, but:

The Decapitator

Counting spatula with a hook on the end. The "easy open" seals actually open easily when you can stab through them. I like these much better than the spats with the hook in the handle (oof ouch owie my wrists) mostly because that's one less movement you've gotta do and I'm also never going to change my ways. How do you guys even count with these uncomfortable abominations?

This um... pharmacy tool (Yeah idk what to call it either) is great for, say, opening amoxicillin suspension seals. Super useful to keep it by the FillMaster.

I like plastic baskets like these for organizing paper prescriptions. You can find something like these at any dollar store. 3 of them is what I prefer - legend drugs, CIII-Vs, and C-IIs, with the backtags (with the prescription number) facing you. If prescriptions are always being typed up at the same place, it becomes super easy to keep track of when you need to rubber-band a section (for example, we sorted controls by the thousands in terms of prescription number, i.e. Rx#s 1000-1999)

Along the same lines you can pickup weekly pill boxes for super cheap. I personally like them better in certain instances because of the shape versus the bigness of a Plano box. For example, I use them for Twilight struggle (one for each player) in order to quickly access an organized grouping of all the counters. They work great if you don't mind the labeling.

How old is your uncle? General Health?

About 80% of the people with Parkinson's have tremor. Parkinson's is more of a collection of issues that are lumped under Parkinson's.

PDD is Parkinson's Disease Dementia. Both that and Lewy Body Dementia are very closely related to Parkinson's.

Biggest thing is to closely work with his Doctor's on what medication he is taking, when he needs to take it, and help with pill dispenser/reminder. I print out a sheet with all my medications on it, and dosage. Only one doc noted the issue with Tramadol and my other medications! Hence my list of everything I am taking.

Friend of mine, with a TBI, woke up. Took her meds, went back to sleep, woke up, took her meds... She ended up consuming five days worth of medication in one day. One possible solution pill dispensor

Most people put in the required effort to take the required drugs.

Your extreme case, in particular, has likely never happened or happened just a handful of times.

The invasion of privacy needed to enforce such a policy to combat a few marginal cases is unjustified.

Would not a better approach be to have extensive education on the necessity of taking the drugs combined with access to devices that help people remember to take their medicine.

u/Harlzter · 3 pointsr/scooters

A five pound note tucked under the seat in case I forget my wallet and need fuel (theres a part in the moulded plastic that makes a nice little stash part, like a hole in the moulding most scoots have it). Basic tools - the original aprilia toolkit it shipped with, pliers and a few zipties, spare fuel filter and a couple of the fuel hose clamps and a can of tyreweld.

On the China scoot I also carry a spare coil, HT lead and spark plug with wrench, the coil and HT is fastened alongside the original with zipties so can be swapped in a couple of minutes, had a few crap out on me for some unknown reason they have gone brittle on the casing and failed.

Edit: I use one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009WS8HJC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 roll the fiver up in it and wedge it in the hole without the keyring bit on.

> I intend to blow up a pillar box as an act of sedition.

I would suggest you start with something like this and work your way up to the bigger variety of Tupperware.

u/shponglespore · 3 pointsr/ADHD

This is the one I use. I like that it's monthly because it means 1/4 as many chances for me me to blow off refilling it. It's also pretty easy to find weekly ones with 4 boxes per day (morning/noon/evening/bedtime), but for some reason I hate the idea of using an organizer where the labels don't match how I actually use it.

u/friareriner · 3 pointsr/XWingTMG

The Core Set box works great. I'd also recommend a 7-day pill box for your tokens (to keep them organized). Example

Try this one if you want

Aidapt Colourful One Month Pill... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IHUPV1S?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

2 times a day for a month with on e extra in case

u/lumidaub · 2 pointsr/ADHD

Got mine from amazon.de but this one should be the same from amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Aidapt-Colourful-Month-Pill-Organiser/dp/B00IHUPV1S

Every time my dosage was raised my heart was racing for a few days for about two hours after I took my meds in the morning. I'm guessing that's my body adjusting to the higher dose and that accidentally overdosing would probably put a lot of stress on your heart. Not a doctor though :)

u/Myfeelingsarehurt · 2 pointsr/Alzheimers

I replaced the bedside tv with an iPad mounted to the wall. You can lock it into Netflix so he can choose his own shows and feel a bit empowered. The screen is not huge but the remotes were confusing him. I made his list on Netflix his favorite shows so he can just touch the one he wants. I still have to help sometimes but it's not completely frustrating for him.

I got a freedom alert it's like a medic alert button but it first calls 4 programmed numbers before 911. I also purchased a few additional buttons as well. I put these buttons around the house in places he sits etc. he uses it to alert me that he needs something (a drink etc) or if he is confused. This allows me to do chores around the house without having to stop and check on him every few mins. I hear the system get a dial tone and begin dialing and generally am able to turn it off long before it ever makes a call.

I got him this pill dispenser back when he was able to concentrate well enough to dependably take his meds. I now give him his pills twice a day but the dispenser is still very helpful in ensuring I don't forget! It's very nice only having to get the bottles out every two weeks as well.

These help me to be a better caregiver by removing some of the stress. I also have the usual bed alarms etc.

You might want to try a timer-cap for your pill bottle.

Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/Medicine-Bottle-Add-Timer-medication/dp/B01L9NZ66Y

You can probably find them at various drug stores.

u/magusprimal · 2 pointsr/craftymighty

No problem friend. I use these at the moment, they will fit 2 or 3 but can be a bit tight depending on how they have been made. Storz and bickel make one of their own but it is a bit pricey.

u/Dorksim · 2 pointsr/ADHD

I've always thought ordering one of these times would be a great idea to address the same problem you have. Naturally I've always put it off.

u/blindcolumn · 2 pointsr/Nootropics

Amazon has this enormous one that I accidentally bought without checking the size. It's way bigger than I need, but maybe it's just right for you.

u/LiliedHart · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I'm on antidepressants and anxiety meds myself, I know exactly what you mean. Definitely set up a reminder system, or get one of those month-long pill organizers so you can visually see how many days you have left. (I've got multiple pills and vitamins different times of the day so I've got a weekly setup instead, but if all you're taking is a daily dose of pills a monthly would probably work better.)

u/anonymousforever · 2 pointsr/ChronicPain

If you just want an am/pm pill dispenser, and something you could leave on the kitchen counter with that week's meds in it (nothing massive) try this it has push buttons to open the compartments. here is a different one that is interesting too.

u/bethnny · 2 pointsr/solotravel

In a little over that amount of time I'm off to Japan, been diagnosed with CFS for 2 years so understand the struggle. I bought this for my tablets and it's been working like a gem- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027RWNN6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Like others have said, bring more than you think you'll need, and just because you want to see all the things don't push yourself. Plan days to rest in between. How long are you going for? Will you be meeting up with people along the way?

u/solipsing · 2 pointsr/bipolar

Hell yeah for the pill organizer! I just found one on Amazon that's a 7 day one buuuut ut has columns for Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Bedtime which is perfect.

For the curious: Apex 7-day Mediplanner Pill Organizer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LR9ZNK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_VugrybVMQ10SS

u/AffableGent · 1 pointr/AskElectronics

I use the pill boxes you can find at places like dollar stores. Label the top of each compartment. Then strip part off a reel to fill it.

Like this one https://www.amazon.com/Large-Weekly-Pill-Organizer-70027PL70027PL/dp/B000M29NZY

u/formerly_valley_pete · 1 pointr/bestoflegaladvice

Yeah you have to bring your bottles, that's what I'm saying, but put all of them together in one of these or something:

https://www.amazon.com/Prescription-medication-20-supplements-organizer/dp/B01NASPA7I?th=1

That way they're all together but in a single bag, not 10 loose bottles or whatever.

u/zeert · 1 pointr/AskReddit

What about something like this to help prevent your self-overdosing? It's a little pricy though.

u/ThrowItAwayNow5x5 · 1 pointr/steroids

Get one of those weekly pill dispensers that old people have. When you meal prep on Sunday, pill prep as well.

Every other day is a good idea. I use one of these to put the food in for the days to feed, prevents over feeding.

I had no idea these things existed till I worked in a Pharmacy. They don't always work, some caps just don't like to separate. But it's pretty easy most of the time. Generally it'll pop the outer cap off in seconds. safety cap removal tool

I have literally taken these filled to the brim with pills through the airport in a carry on many times (Just this past weekend as well).

https://www.amazon.com/Apex-7-day-Mediplanner-Pill-Organizer/dp/B000LR9ZNK/ref=zg_bs_3764251_5

2 things I would make sure of are that there is no clear reason for your bag to be checked (liquids over 3 oz, didn't take out computer, etc.) and that you have different pills in the container (can be accomplished by just buying different looking capsules if you're moving powder).

The one time I was questioned about them (bag checked for the 3oz liquid deal, even though my container was 3 oz), I just said I buy my vitamins/minerals in bulk and make my own because it's so much cheaper and I have bad reactions to a lot of them.

Bottom line is they aren't going to stop you and test it. Worse case scenario they tell you that you can't carry it on, but that's never happened.

I'm going to repost with a link to amazon.com -- I'm a rookie Reddit user. I've learned that the timer can use a small fix so anyone interested can contact me here.

This got a bit longer than I meant so I'll apologize now. But the first thing I'm going to say is fuck bitches. Get money.

Someone wants to lie about you? That's on them. You do you. It's cliched bullshit but honestly you can't control other people. There are things you can control, but you're giving all that power away for absolutely free to people you're not sure even like you or want you in their social lives.

So just ignore all of that bullshit. People will figure out what's up if you're honest with yourself and honest with them. Don't try to put yourself up in anyone's eyes and don't let anyone put you down. Just be.

That doesn't actually fix anything. You can fix it though.

Changing in place is more difficult than starting over. But it's a longer lasting thing. If you get a new job, you'll go in like a fireball, you'll be on top of all of your shit.

For a while, at least. And then six months later there's an explosion, and it all falls apart.

I want you to do three things. Some of them cost a minimal amount of money, but not much. If you stick with it, I promise in six months you'll be feeling better instead of falling apart.

I'm not being shitty, but I want you to picture yourself six months from now. Where you're headed. What's likely to happen. And I want you to imagine a different you that is powerful and in control.

And no I'm not talking about sobriety or Jesus. But that's the second time I've mentioned control, and it's going to come up several more times.

This doesn't mean everything's sunshine and roses all the time. It means that all those little strings that attach you to the stress in your life, that pull you in every direction, those ties are anchored a few inches away instead of inside you.

You're safe inside a little bubble where you have control of the things that matter.

The first thing I want you to do , and the most expensive, is go into a CVS or a Rite-Aid or whatever pharmacy you have nearby or just go on Amazon and get one of those little compartment things for pills that old people use.

And when you get pot I want you to put a bowl-pack in 13 of those. This is the first test, and the most difficult. This is the part where you control your actions.

Those bowl-packs are for every day between pays. You get one, and only one. It's not enough to get fucked up. That's not the point. It's purely therapeutic. (And when I explain the rest of my plan, you'll see how powerful this act really becomes.) Whatever's left over after you set that aside is for you to go to town on. If it lasts, it lasts. If it doesn't.. don't fuck around with what you have set aside.

The second thing I want you to do is get a rubber band, the big ones like a bunch of rolls of quarters sometimes have around them from the bank. I want you to wear this on your wrist. When you feel yourself starting to lose control, I want you to take action instead of letting it flow.

I want you to snap the band on the outside of your wrist. You'll bruise the hell out of yourself if you sting the inside, but a little snap on the outside won't hurt you. But it will bring you fully and 100% into the moment.

I want you to snap the rubber band and take just a second to remember that no matter what happens.... even if the place burns down... you have a bowl-pack waiting for you at home. And no matter what, eventually you will be there, you will be packing that bowl and you will smoke it. And then you can do whatever it is you enjoy doing. This is the part where you control your emotions.

The final thing I want you to do is to change your focus. I'm sure there are several metrics that they grade you on, and I'm sure there's a lot of stress involved with those numbers. Fuck all that.

You're getting $9 an hour, and they're not going to fire you. All they're going to do is drag you aside while you nod and smile, and then you do whatever you do.

So instead of getting pissed off about those numbers I want you to focus 100% of your energy on customer satisfaction. Every action you take, every decision you make, I want your goal to be a smiling customer at the end of the transaction.

This is controlling your environment. Happy people make people happy. And if someone doesn't want to be happy, well fuck them. You have your plans set in stone, because of decisions you made that no one but you can affect.

Remember that bubble. Imagine everything in your life that affects you, attach a string to it and give it a different color. And I'd bet you a bag that even after I mentioned the bubble before and just now, you still imagine those things going straight to your heart.

You need to change that. The first step is taking things into your own hands.

Came here to recommend these automatic pill dispensers for people that need to take meds at certain times. I realize, of course, that these kind of devices are useless if you actually need to carry the meds on your person. These automatic dispensers have really been a life saver with dealing with my 'forgetful' elderly parents. They can be set to beep when the pills are dispensed, and will continue to beep until the pills are actually taken from the device.
