A bit over 2 oz per plant cured bud (plus a decent amount of low grade cannaoil from the leaves), so 12 oz+ per year. I have a small grow tent, and I use a Marshydro 300.

I got a 2.5x1.5x3 foot veg tent. It is a Milliard tent and is all metal for the frame and seems very study. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H2ULDR0/ - very happy for $66.00.

I got it to feed the 4x4 tent, obviously.

Ya start with a couple of CFLs and a splitter and the next thing you know you are going perpetual and adding herbs and veggies to the tents.

u/Mitten_Punch · 10 pointsr/microgrowery

First-hand experience three brands--Apollo, iPower, Aggro Max. Apollo tents are my favorite. And ~$100 US for a 4x4. If you plan on moving/breaking down and setting up the tent a bunch, the more expensive options will be made of stronger materials. If this tent is going to be in a really bright room during dark cycles, be prepared to tape up seams and zippers. Anything less than a $600 Gorilla tent is going to have some minor light leaks.

Reconsider two 600w HPS lights. Lots of people run one 600w in a 4x4. A 4x4 calls for about 800w of HID lighting. Once you pass that, you'll start to see diminishing returns. One dimmable 1000w with a cheap, wide hood will give you all the coverage you need. You'll likely be dialing it down a lot of the time.

Hey, I JUST came off building a setup and it cost me $750 total. We have 3 plants in there right now. I have the entire list with amazon links or store suggestions.

Item| Price | Where To Buy
---|---|----
Tent| $95| We bought this one, I don't know if it's worth spending a lot on anything more expensive. For a smaller option I just got a second with good reviews but can't vouch for it yet.
Lights/Hood/Ballast| $140| I got the 600W set, but 400W would make cooling MUCH easier and still get a big yield. For LEDs at similar price, Viparspectra 300W x2 or a single 600W eliminates need for extra cooling potentially (not included here, we used fans from around the house)
ph Test+Control Kit | $25| GET THIS. The water must be pH'd properly for your babies' health.
Cloth Pots| $20 | These are better for aeration, water flow, training, etc. Cheap and reusable too.
Nutrients | $50 | I got the Fox Farms Trio, but there are many good options out there.
Fan + Filter | $150 | This is huge and might be overkill for you. Make sure whatever you get fits your tent vents (This one fits the Apollo tent above with 6" vents).
Ducting | $20 | Connect fan to filter, to tent, to wherever. Might want multiple sizes, check tent vent sizes.
Foil Tape, Metallic | $10 | Here. Metal Duct tape is best duct tape.
Fan Speed Controller | $20 | Useful for if you do get a fan that is slightly overkill!
Fox Farms Ocean Forest | $15 - $40 | You can buy it online and I did for my first 3 bags....then I found it in a local store for $15. There is some controversy with FF lately, it's not organic FYI. There are tutorials on making your own soil if you care, but I like this because I didn't have to use nutes for 3-4 weeks.
Humidifier | $30 | This is the exact one I have. We're in winter so I need it to keep humidity up, you may not.
Dehumidifier | $40 | There are plenty for this much. You may not need this either.
Cal-Mag | $20 | I haven't needed it yet but it's best to have on hand if you do!
Seeds | $75 | I bought from Attitude, chose stealth, and bought like 15 seeds?, so it was expensive. You can get seeds for less.
Jiffy Pellets | $10 | Used to start seeds. There are other options.
Total | $745 | If you buy all this stuff, you have potentially even more than you need to get started, with room for 3-4x more plants than these boxes, and with nutrients to last you for a long long time!

Hope this helps! I'd hate to see you drop so much on it when you don't need to at all.

Carbon scrubber

measuring glass/syringe

If you're doing hydro there are other nutrients I might recommend getting.

I know a lot of pH pens have bad reviews, this is probably the best one I've seen for the money, no idea if yours is good:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004G8PWAU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_11?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Also if you're not necessarily set on LEDs you can get an equivalent/better, MH/HPS light.

If you do go for a better light for the same/less price you could also go with a larger tent. This one isn't very much more but it can support a larger light, and it has some real decent reviews. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H9NGP8C/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

This light is good for 2 plants but you’ll eventually want to add a second for your tent. You definitely can’t fill the tent with just this light, but it’ll get you started.

These are great nutrients and basically foolproof. This free sample kit will get you through 4 plants full grows. I love these nutrients and even now use them in a reservoir (which people claim you can’t do but works great).

Dr.meter 0.1pH PH002 High Accuracy pH Meter/pH Pen Tester with ATC LCD 0-14 pH Measurement Range (PH002 pH Meter for Water) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PU0W35K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fI13BbNRES1BK

That will get you started on your first grow or two. I recommend auto blue mystic from nirvana for your first run. They are very low smell while growing so you can get by without a carbon filter. They’re autos so you can leave the light on 24/7, and they finish fast. Also turns out a great finished product.

https://www.nirvanashop.com/marijuana-seeds/815-blue-mystic-autoflower.html

Less than $40 for 5 seeds and very discrete shipping.

When you have a bit more $ you can add on additional items. Eventually you’ll want to upgrade to PFD sun boards or quantum boards, but you’ll probably want to get a fan and filter first:

6" Inline Fan - 395 CFM Exhaust Duct Fan, Built-In Speed Controller, ETL Listed, Pre-Wired 6 FT Grounded Cord - Great Use In Grow Tent With Carbon Filters, Light Fixtures, Intake. Fits 6 Inch Ducts. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L0D0UEQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TM13Bb5170NC1

Maybe you can upgrade to a 2x4 tray with reservoir so you can automate feeding.

If you don’t want autoflowers you can just do 12/12 from seed for faster harvest. https://www.royalqueenseeds.com/blog-how-to-grow-cannabis-from-seed-under-12-12-lighting-n330

But I really recommend doing the auto blue mystic for your first round or two.

My setup consists of:

A 2'x2'x4' Weed tent.

A cool mist humidifier running half-hour on, half-hour off during the day, and always running through the night. Always on the lowest possible mist setting.

Two 1200 lumen outdoor-rated daylight-spectrum floodlights mounted on bendy desk lamps; one sitting ~22 inches above my plants at a slight angle providing direct light, and the other covered with a layer of duct tape and pointed at one of the top corners of the tent to provide a bit more indirect light. Direct light stays on 13 hours per day, indirect turns on an hour earlier and off an hour later.

A single 10x20 tray on top of some cheap plastic shelving from walmart. The shelving was by far the hardest component to get right. I probably spent >$100 on different shelving units before I found my $12 solution. Though it's a 3-shelf unit, I only put two of them together.

A small temperature and humidity reader thingy.

Notes about this setup:

Mold. I get fuzzies growing along the seams of the tent every few weeks. I wipe them away with a bleachy rag, then spray over where they grew with dissolved sulfer. The mold has never gotten out of control and never yet spread to the plants, but I do have to stay on top of it.

Temperature. This setup doesn't have that large of an impact on temperature. It tends to be about 1-5°F above ambient temperature in the day, and 0-2°F below ambient temperature at night. If the temperature in your home doesn't fluctuate much this might not work for you, but I can pretty reliably get 10°F or so drops, and that's all it seems to take for my plants.

u/X0dium · 4 pointsr/microgrowery

Depends on the quality of your tent. Gorilla tents are the absolute top of the line, but you pay for that quality. Amazon is your best bet for quality and affordability. Generally 3x3s are $100. 3x3 or 2x4 is probably your best bet for a basic small personal grow. This is the tent I use.. and I've never had any light or smell leaks. Change out your Carbon Filter once a year if smell is your concern and you'll be good to go.

I live in a NYC apartment, so space is tight. This is my solution.

1 - 62x36x20 Grow tent, currently empty. Will house the bell pepper and brussels sprouts and bell peppers in big 5 gallon units like this and lit (hopefully) by a custom high power LED lighting rig I'm working on.

2a T5 hydrofarm grow light

2b - Homemade 9 site DWC unit. Here's a pic from back when I was doing lettuce in it.. It's currently empty, but will house the spinach when it's sprouted.

3a - Another T5 hydrofarm grow light What can I say, they're great grow lights.

3b - Seedling tray, currently growing bell pepper, brussels sprouts, and spinach.

4 - 3 site aerogarden currently growing 2 parsley plants and 1 thyme

5 - 7 site aerogarden though I've only used 4 sites. 2 basil, 1 sage, 1 oregano

6 - Dry erase board with planting notes, map of what plants are in what sites, dates i planted them, etc.

7 - utility drawer. nutrients, tools, etc.

8 - more storage for replacement plugs, dremel, spray paint, other tools for hydro stuff.

9 - my computer area

Worth noting that the foundation for all of this is the Elfa shelving system from the Container Store. Wall-mounted shelves serve as the base for the desk portion and the hydro shelves. Highly recommended for apartment gardens.

u/GeoManDan · 3 pointsr/microgrowery

Panda film is the best DIY tent material, no question. White side reflects light back at plants, black side blocks out light.

https://www.amazon.ca/Hydrofarm-ABWP1-Black-Polymer-10-Feet/dp/B004WI44LM

Those reflective heat blankets are shit. Dont waste your time and money with these.

u/Workin4Honda · 3 pointsr/microgrowery

You can build one fairly cheaply. Best part about it is that you can design it yourself and build it to the size you want. PVC from Lowes, Panda Film and Gorilla Tape works well.

GROW DETAILS

I have three different strains, Northern Lights, Pre-99 big bud, and pure power plant, and then an unknown seed(which I planted about two weeks ago as the previous unknown seed turned out male, see previous post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/microgrowery/comments/5qo1yo/early_sign_of_balls_details_in_comments/0. One in each 3-gallon smart pot. For the first two weeks of growing I had an 18/6 light schedule, and then switched to 12/12. (I'm essentially doing 12/12 from as early as the plant could respond to the change in light schedule). Over the past 15 days I watered twice with tiger bloom nutes.

I definitely made the mistake of not listening to your advice when I originally posted and am trying to grow 3 plants in a 1.5X2.5X3 foot tent...It is getting crowded, I should've listened and stuck with one, maybe two plants. Other than that I haven't had any problem that I have noticed other then a few spots of damage on leaves occasionally but no pests or wilting. I'm sure there are things I could've done better though. Thank you for all your help, I can't wait to get to harvest.

Growing in soil with BioBizz and General Organics nutes and Ph'd tap water. Two 4 inch fans, one for intake and one hooked to a carbon filter for outake. A controller turns these on and off as needed for temperature control. 30 pint dehumidifier and 12 inch oscillating fan are also in there. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

Save yourself a lot of hassle. Buy a cheap but reliable tent. Apollo makes great tents, cheap too.

u/huhthatscool · 3 pointsr/aeroponics

I actually didn't tally up the cost as that wasn't really of a concern to me, but I'll try my best to provide links to the things I bought for this. Feel free to add it up for me!

My grow tent

My light

The light is on a 12/12 cycle, veg only. I have two fans: one that circulates air constantly, and another that periodically replaces the air in the tent with fresh air.

u/the_real_sasquatch · 3 pointsr/microgrowery

The 48" height could be limiting, especially if you want to hang the filter inside the tent. You can make it work, but I think you're going to wish you had another foot of headroom in there.

I just looked and didn't see any 5' tents in 2x2 at a reasonable price. If you could fit a 36x20 tent, this one looks decent. I used a tent that size for my first few grows, and it is capable of growing two decent size plants, with proper lighting.

The mars panel will work... I've used them. But I can assure you that you will wish you had spent another $50-100 on a better light. This is the current winner, IMO. (they will be back in stock within the next week). If you are going to splurge, stick with the short 2x2 tent, and splurge on the light. It will pay for itself through (1) yield, and (2) your electric bill, and if your grow goes off the rails, and you give up, that setup will have legit resale value.

I would probably suggest using coco as your medium. It's easy and plays nice with the hydro nutes.

You MUST budget for a good quality pH pen. I like Blue Lab products. Get storage and calibration solutions to go with it. A cheap EC/PPM/TDS meter too.

u/Imagi_nathan7 · 3 pointsr/nugswap

⛺️: 4x4 is versatile as both veg and flower.

💡: If you want to go new, reasonably priced and show results look at quantum boards (check out r/microgrowery for advice on which) (https://www.horticulturelightinggroup.ca). If not, 400w HID (either Kijiji or Amazon options) including Metal Halide for veg, HPS for flower, will work in that size tent, although you should shoot for 50w/square foot (true watts from the wall). Magnetic ballast is cheaper but more cumbersome, digital is more money but can be dimmed most of the time and switch back and forth from Veg/Flower easily.

Ventilation: 4” or 6” inline fan (for fresh air) ($40 Home Hardware, either one), and a 4” or 6”exhaust w/carbon filter on Amazon, depending on what size tent. Couple of clip on fans and an oscillating fan to circulate (might have to mess with the oscillating with space, or get a wall mount one $$)

Random rambling notes:

You can be as frugal or spend as much as you want with this hobby. I did the half and half approach with sourcing my lights on Kijiji ($50 for 400w hps and $25 for metal halide that I wired to remote ballast) with new tent, fans, medium, fertilizers, ph pen (don’t cheap out), and other accessories, and I could say the initial investment was just at about $1000.

I wish I went with a 4x4 to start for shape and heat dispersion (2x4 is fine for 400w in the winter, harder to control during summer and growing two plants into a rectangle can be a pruning job itself ), 2x4 is fine for 2 big girls comfortably, 3 is a crowd but possible. Or you could go SOG growing method and pack more in, but I like to make table top plants as much as possible. I know this grow is in Canada so go ahead and get 1 or 2 cheap humidifiers for vegging during winter (it’s coming :D), but you’ll have an easy time during flower to keep RH low for flower. Summertime you’ll have an easier time w an air conditioned apartment, it should keep the humidity in check as well. Also get a couple of thermometers for the tent, one maybe with an outside probe to keep outside the tent to check during lights out. Also, you’ll find aluminum tape handy to cover pinhole leaks from less expensive tents (Vivosun is affordable, they have great customer service that will compensate any flaws in their tent w pinhole light, or bite the bullet and get a Gorilla or Mammoth tent 💵 💰). Harvesting is another bag of shit to get, hit me up if you want that list.

A few other things I got locally from grow shops. Quality seeds are important. Greenpointseeds.com is always having bomb sales, ship from Colorado, and are top quality. Soil from local grow shops but can also buy from online. I went cheaper on light, but I wouldn't do that again. Get good quality lights.

Ontario here too, have you checked amazon? Vivosun has a good selection of tents for an excellent price! Here's the link to their tents, just select one of the 5 sizes -> https://www.amazon.ca/VIVOSUN-Horticulture-Hydroponic-Obeservation-Growing/dp/B01DXYMQ9M/ref=lp_11914446011_1_6?srs=11914446011&ie=UTF8&qid=1555178839&sr=8-6

Oh wow, thank you!! Fair warning: this is my first attempt so I'm not sure if I've done everything "correctly" lol

I'll try to break down the conditions as best I can. I used the KORAM seed starter trays from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LX0JBUU) to help with water and humidity control. I kept the vent almost all the way closed to keep the environment very moist pretty much until the last week or so I had the lid on. During that last stretch, I gradually opened the vent to allow more airflow to acclimate the bbs (not sure if that actually matters lol, but better safe than sorry right?). The lid was on pretty much 24/7 until the mold & algae got crazy and the seedlings started to get true leaves.

I use distilled water and in the beginning I rarely had to refill the bottom of the tray since the domed lids kept a lot of the moisture inside. I'd supplement as needed maybe once a week, but really based on the look of the soil. Once the lid came off I definitely had to check the moisture level more frequently. Now that the bbs are bigger I keep the soil moist but not too wet by either misting them or refilling the bottom of the tray.

They've been under a grow light in a tent (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GCHXUVU/) for 12-14 hours a day since about day 3 after sowing seeds. I gradually moved them from the side with less direct light into the brighter area as they got stronger. The tent has a fan set up on a timed power strip to circulate air for as long as the lights are running during the day, and I tried to keep the temp around 72 as best I could for the first few weeks.

I made my own mix using Kempf Compressed Coco Fiber, perlite, and Bonsai Jack Succulent and Cactus Soil Gritty Mix #111 which I sterilized first. I'd say it's about 50/25/25 for the coco, perlite, and bonsai jack. I also sifted the mix to get some of the finest particles to create a ~1/4 inch layer on the top of each section before sowing the seeds on top. I did 1-2 seeds per individual section.

This got long, but I hope it helps in your potential seed endeavors!

Neat. Always love to see DIY solutions.

But a 4x4 grow tent can be had for under ~$100 on Amazon. So it's really not much of a cost benefit overall unless you need/want something custom or are wary of buying a tent online.

Also one suggestion, using the 'mirrored' mylar (or "Metallized Polyester Film", Mylar is a brand name, to find cheaper stuff, search for the generic name) can cause reflective hot spots that can cause random spots of light burn or other such issues. For DIYers, look for film with a matte or flat finish or, if you're handy with a sewing machine and can find it cheaply, use polyester mylar coated fabric (most prebuilt grow tents use "600d oxford mylar fabric").

Thanks for the information!

I was thinking NL mainly because I've read that the auto version is a good starting strain, it has decent yield, and low on smell! I figured a well known and well documented strain would be a good first start!

The tent I'm looking at is 4' tall (The one under the LED starter kit) , so I'm assuming that'll be fine, but I'll do more research once I look at that sub and other sites/breeders!

Everything I've read online says Nirvana is a good place to buy from, so I'll probably start looking there first!

u/SillyStrungOut · 2 pointsr/SpaceBuckets

This is what I bought. I use the ratcheting clips it comes with to lift and hold the lid of my bucket while I work. The speed controller is pretty crucial, I think, because this fan is more powerful than a bucket needs. I keep my speed at about half and get good VPD balance.

u/InspectorTroy · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

You might want to think about taking an oversized fabric pot, and folding it down to keep the soil level low. You'll want as much soil surface area with the least height to keep the plant low. So a 7 or 10 gallon pot might seem like overkill unless you fold it down and you get 3 or 5 gallons of soil but way more space to work with vertically.

u/Pharmy_Dude27 · 2 pointsr/Hydroponics

The kratky method is a great beginners method to get into hydroponics. I currently have about 30 plants all doing the kratky.

General Hydroponics is a good brand and mix of nutrients. Its simple to use and doesnt require a scale to mesure stuff out. Use a tablespoon to measure stuff or a syringe.

Buy the PH up/down from GH too but be warned you will need to dilute it first or youre in for a fun time trying to correct your PH. (let me know when you get to this step and I can give better directions.

Get a simple PH tester. It will make your life a lot easier. Once I figured out that adding nutrients to my water brought my PH to around 5.9 I stopped testing everytime. (but i recommend that you do use it everytime)

You DO NOT need to grow in soil first, but like /u/BroposkisRump said you can just be careful washing off the roots. GOTO the youtube channels mentioned on check out Khang Starr's video first.

Some advice:

  • Kratky is BEST for leafy plants like basil, lettuce, kale, etc.
You cangrow those with no effort.

  • Make sure all containers are opaque to prevent algae growth.

  • Get seedlings and sprouts under a grow light to prevent stretching!!

  • If you live in anything but a hot climate you will want a grow tent to grow peppers over winter - And a grow light - Get a digital timer and give your plants around 16 hours of light (you can get cheaper ones but I am showing you what i bought)

  • Get 2 inch net pots and a 2 inch hole saw for your containers

  • A fan on your peppers will help make then thicker and stronger plants and may help polinate them. You can also shake your plant ( thats what I do)

Thats all I got for now. Once you understand this method try hydroponics using a different method as well.

u/treefarmercharlie · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

Yeah, that looks like it's still in veg to me. Have you thought about investing in a tent? They really aren't that expensive and even the cheap ones do a decent job of blocking the light enough. I have the 48" x 48" version of THIS TENT and I haven't had any issues with it. That page shows the prices for all the sizes for that tent, too.

$106.30 at 39% off now the 4x4 is cheaper than the 3x3. I love my 3x3, it's just the right size for four plants, but if you have the space the 4x4 gives a little more space and options with it. The 2x4 is short which is a little more difficult to work with.

Everything is on Amazon, though I'm in Canada so it's .ca but they have clearly been prepping for this for some time.

Personally I would not be looking at that kit. The Light is an old style magnetic ballast which are less efficient and not dimmable....it is also only a 400w light which is kind of small for a 3x3 tent.

I also wouldn't buy a premaid hydro setup, the buckets can be picked up at a homedepot for a few bucks and you can cut the holes in the covers yourself instead of paying the costs they want.

The fan is only a duct booster fan which is not the best option (I use one myself and it works, just not the best option) And there is no carbon filter included in the kit.

Well if an ounce is all you want, check out /r/SpaceBuckets. I could never get myself to do it as growing a weed plant, even just 1, is a huge investment of your time, resources, and effort. I think about it like: If I can get 1-2oz from a spacebucket in the same 3-5 months time, why not invest money that'll make itself back twice over just the first grow (even if you dont sell any, to me getting 1000$ of weed from my grow is making my 1000$ back but ima stoner lol)

I had to buy 2 rolls of black tape to check her the whole outside twice and make sure no light came through. I used 1.5 rolls but I can’t buy 1.5 rolls. It uses a lot of tape to get a full light seal.

I don’t know what tents you are using, you can find tents 45-55 that’s are 4-5 times the size of a bucket. A $90 tent is like 3x3 or bigger, can’t compare that to a bucket size grow.
here is a tent for $45.99 That is maybe the size of 3 bucket builds

Well I understand you may find it annoying, but every time I do I get direct messages asking for link and then agreeing it’s a better investment that buying and building a bucket. I worked a few hours a day for a week to build my bucket.

It’s a great DIY and I had fun building it, but you can do more for the investment if you consider time to make it and all. Space buckets are a great beginner hobby, but so can a 2x2

u/Tonnberry_King · 2 pointsr/Autoflowers

Np, we've all been there! I should've mentioned that airflow in the tent is really good for mold prevention.

Also, if you can, go for 3x3x5-7, it's always good to account for utilities you might need in the tent, (fan, small dehumidifier for the flower stage) and the height consumed by lighting/pots.

Edit: you don't even need 3x3, in the winter I use this for 2 plants

u/8zab22 · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

For a tent? Kind of depends on what you want and how much space etc. I wanted a closet tent and have my other small ones off to the sides not taking up much space. This is the one I'm running with now for my main indoor. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0716BK1KD?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I've been very happy with it I can fit around 3 pots that's are 3 gallon comfortably. Could probably do 4 but I like extra space lol. I'm currently doing two 5 gal pots and could probably fit an extra 3 gallon in it but I didnt want to. Vivosun seems to be a pretty decent company as far as I can tell lol. My only light leaks are just a bit in the zipper after a few months but that doesnt effect autos which is what I run in it. I'm using an led light that was bundled with my 16 inch tent, plan on upgrading soon but it gets the job done.

u/traptito · 2 pointsr/GrowingMarijuana

Well, I wouldn't buy a tent kit/package. You could go with a 24"x24" tent like this one then buy your light and carbon filter/inline fan seperate.

iPower is a good inexpensive brand to start with for your fan/filter. A 4" fan is more than enough for that size.

As for your light a Quantum board leds are the most efficient lights out now but Cobs (chip on board) are great too.

Add a little clip fan for air circulation and you're all set!

IDK what kind of hook up you have on wood but I figure with time, effort and materials your gunna be around 50 bucks. This guy is only 63 I have the 4x4 version, not the sturdiest tent ever, but if you baby it they'll work for you. All I did was type "grow tent" in to amazon, I'm sure with alittle more looking you'll find something in your price range. Its easier to search online then pound boards for a few hours.

Lining it with panda might work if you literally seal it, since moisture will get through any leaks. Its always a good idea to have 2 tents, one for veg and one for flower. Your veg tent will be the one you face moisture problems in, since for veg you have to run high humidity's. Flower tent you might get away with wood, since your humidity will be relatively low. Wood is just a hassle best to be avoided. I got mites a little while back, all I had to do was tear down my tent and clean it out with bleach. What would you do if you found termites or mold on your box?

u/Closet_Growing · 1 pointr/microgrowery

My intention was to use it for both, being my first grow and just for myself personally going for two plants using bagseeds. I do have a somewhat large tent though but I assumed I'd use around 200w for flower and just take my time with it. But I guess I'll have to tweak it if 200w wont perform at all for two plants, maybe shoot for 300w with added side lighting.

I have one 100cfm fan for out take (makes me nervous also but could add another if heat is an issue but I assumed it wouldn't be due to the amount of CFL I was using)

(and will be using a small oscillating fan at the bottom obv)

To optimize I wanted to possibly create two smaller hoods and maybe pick up some cfl to spot light certain areas during flower. Also been looking at scrog but was always planning to LST.

My significant other isn't comfortable with me spending alot of money my first go and I would like to experiment anyways. I'll look at different light options but like I said one 100w cfm fan probably wouldn't handle it but I have no experience with it.

I appreciate any opinions you may have I enjoy many of your posts.

I did a grow with my buddy a few years ago, this time I had some plywood and bought 2 rolls of this poly stuff off amazon and kinda built a tent on the cheap haha.

Nuggs lookin good.

u/johnnychronicseed · 1 pointr/microgrowery

First off I would get some black or aluminum tape around your container, light hitting your roots will kill your plant.

For the back get some Panda Film or Mylar

Watering Every Day is not very normal how far down is it feeling dry. I normally stick my whole pointer finger in and if its moist/wet still I will wait another day and check again.

I got the plant bug back in the summer when I decided to buy an aloe, and then some succulents and cacti for my office desk.

I had purchased a 6w LED desk lamp from Amazon but wanted to try something bigger.

The box I've built was made using a cheap white plastic rack from the hardware store, a 5m LED strip, black white polymer, and industrial Velcro tape (15 feet)

LED Strip ($29)
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004WI44LM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Black-white polymer ($14)
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004WI44LM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Velcro tape ($50)
http://canada.michaels.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-MichaelsCanada-Site/en_CA/Product-Show?pid=M10354418

After I assembled the rack I put zip ties along under side of each shelf and then looped the LED strip from the plug end, up the side, over the top to the other side - and had enough so that each level (except for the bottom) has light shining from the sides and above.

This took some gentle twisting and securing with zip ties through the plastic cover to get the strip facing inward on all sides.

To cover the rack, i measured out enough polymer sheet to cover the sides and back while remaining somewhat taught. A 10 x 10 sheet of plastic is annoying to work with, and was shipped folded, so there are still some creases. and I didn't do a precise job of cutting.
The plastic however is quite durable and won't tear when you're unfolding it and stretching it out.

I chose the black-white polymer or "panda plastic" after reading recommended low cost options for reflecting light.

A top and door flap were cut as separate pieces . I was left with plenty of sheet left over after cutting what I needed.

As I wanted the plastic to last and be able to easily deconstruct the box, I bought Velcro tape for applying it to the rack. This was the most expensive item, but I feel it was worth it. Still some left over after using what was needed to make the box light proof. There is a small spot along the bottom and side where some light escapes.

The light strip is connected to a timer so it runs 14 hours a day. From what I could find out, the strip is 72 watts , so the cost of running it is minimal. The strip does get quite warm , but not alarmingly hot.

After a week it appears to be maintaining my succulents and cacti, - especially with a sempervivum that had begun to bloom in my window (which I thought was cool because it's winter and the light is minimal).

I'm hoping that a kalanchoe cutting I have in there on the middle shelf will start to grow more evenly than it has at my desk. It really leaned towards the desk lamp.

The tray in the second shelf has recycled k cups with cucumber and cherry tomato seeds. I thought I would try to use them as seed pots. Today it appeared that a few of the seeds have sprouted.

The bottom shelf is a tomato and basil kit I got from the grocery store.

One of my plans is to swap the plants in the taller ceramic pots into smaller clay ones. It would make more sense to have the pots around the same height. Since planting them in those, I've learned that size isn't really necessary.

I've also considered making a carbon generator (saw a tutorial using yeast and sugar), but I'm not sure what benefit it would have given that the box is not airtight.

Were I to change something , I would re cut the polymer and make it one piece that goes over the rack, then cut out a door flap.

u/ImGoingToPhuket · 1 pointr/HotPeppers

The light in the picture is just a bright LED light in a basic desk lamp fixture. It's not the light I plan to use. The light I will use is this 36 inch T5 fixture/light combo that I bought on amazon, but it hasn't arrived yet so I don't know how good it will be just yet. To turn the shelf into a tent I just bought this stuff for $15 and attached it with lots of duct tape. I used one single piece for the bottom, top, and 3 sides, and another piece for the door. And then I cut a hole in the door to use as a small access window so that I can keep the door sealed.

I plan to start with 1 light and buy more as I need them. The top part of my shelf will be used for seed starting and small to medium sizes seedlings and the bottom can support pretty tall plants.

u/BucketDummy · 1 pointr/SpaceBuckets

I will definitely flip it back when she wakes up this afternoon.

My bucket wound up being too tall to put in the closet without removing shelving so I went ahead and got a tent.

This is the 1st one I got. Way too short to hang a light. Boo.

However, the zippers, viewing flap and zipper covers are things I really enjoyed and wish my new one had. Also, the intake at the bottom was sweet and lacking in the new one.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H2ULDR0/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is the current one. It juuuuust fits in my closet. No complaints just not a lot of extras.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H9OJHYA/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have no idea what to do with this extra tent. Not something you advertise having. Tempted to drop it off on someone's doorstep and run.

I think I'm going to be sticking with autoflowers and can't rationalize growing a ton of plants solely for personal use.

The current set-up should allow to have one vegging and one flowering at the same time....maybe even a 3rd sprout if I time them right.

u/Gravefall · 1 pointr/microgrowery

I see, I can sell the one I have actually since my cousin already told me to pick one extra one for him.

Thank you :) Yup, I got the seeds from Baker Creek and these ones in particular are Cherokee Purple

They germinated super fast @ 100% success. Started them in the expanding peat pots that you find in the starter kits with a heating mat under the tray. Now they're moved into a 5x5 Grow Tent with a small space heater, fan to circulate air, and two LED lights one two set on timers. They grew so fast once I repotted them and put them in the grow tent that I didnt look for a day and the plant on the left had burned itself on the light (you can see the couple of crispy leaves on the top left lol).

clip fans $20 - $40 https://www.amazon.com/Comfort-Zone-Clip-Stands-anywhere/dp/B000U9V47E

You still need buckets and soil as well as seeds or clones, but the bulk of what you need is right there.

You could swap out the HID lamp for some leds easily enough. Or upgrade to slightly better quality items, but you can get started for pretty cheap if you want.

Add a second set up like this and you can go perpetual grow and harvest several times a year.

Apollo Horticulture makes great tents and products. I'm running a 6in premium carbon filter from them as well. Have both rents connected and it is doing its job just right.
IMO tent thickness isn't needed. Where I live it gets down to the mid 20s. My garage isn't heated and gets too around 50s, and with my lighting, A small space heater, and the tent, I'm keeping a nice 74(sleep time) 78(daylight) at 40% to 50% humidity constantly.

this one's highly recommended and people say it helps reduce the humming on the inline fan compaerd to cheaper speed controllers.

The Mars 300 is chill for the price, you probably want to want to get a second one if you're going to have multiple plants in that tent. People say 1 mars 300 per plant should get you good results, almost pushing it with two full plants under a single mars 300.

Hey! As always, thanks to everyone for helping me get better at this hobby.

As you can see from the album, I've got one clone of the Cookie Shots from the Unofficial Good Guys. Other than the yellowing of the leaves, which I can't quite figure out, the grow has gone pretty well so far. My last plants seemed to take FOREVER to get from this stage to harvest so we'll show it goes with my new kick ass 3VL light fixture. The difference between this and my old setup is staggering.

My last grow with two plants and the budget setup yielded something in the neighborhood of six ounces, and I'm hoping to replicate that yield with this single plant given the new light. We'll see.

I've never had any issues with yellowing leaves before, and I don't think it's a big concern, but if any of you experts know more than I do please chime in and let me know your thoughts. Grow details are below if anyone gives a rip.

A hydroponic grow tent may be a great solution:

+available in a bunch of sizes

+lightproof

+relatively cheap

+can potentially offer a more dust free environment

+can turn a portion of a room into a darkroom effectively

+can be dissassembled and moved easily

-needs good ventilation to comfortable

saying that a lot

I found the tent but it appears the price has jumped. Probably due to the new demand from popular legislation.

https://www.amazon.com/Ohuhu-Hydroponic-Growing-Gardening-Germination/dp/B01M9E10HP I got this one for my first grow and it is legit with a nice price point but you will need a second person to help set it up...maybe a smaller one would be easier if that's what you're into. Oh and it doesn't have a fancy viewing window but that wasn't a necessity for me.

The clear greenhouse is one of these cheap greenhouses that I got at Lowe’s. this is the other one, it was like $85 and I’m quite happy with it. I’ve got a 2’x4’ plastic tray in the bottom for water collection since I don’t trust the one that came with the grow tent. I’ll be building a much larger setup out of wood, pond liner and insulation sometime soon. this is basically what I’ll be doing. As for the large rajahs pot, I think I’m going to find a large very wide plastic pot and drill a ton of holes in it, making a custom net pot

Yeah good tents are a little more expensive than I'd like but the build quality makes up for it seeing it in person, and the cost of getting fans adds on a bit more. But it also lets me really easily do temp control much more efficiently by running some ducting from my window unit a/c straight into the tent. I have this 36x20x62 tent in the pic.

Awesome, Thank you haha. I realize now the converted shelf probably isn't the best idea. I don't know why it has taken me so long to start looking into grow tents. So I'm looking at a grow tent like thisSo something like that tent, with a small desk fan and one of those Larger LED Boards should be great right?

Can't thank you enough for your help, I really appreciate it! You've been more helpful than literally anything else I've found online.

At the moment it is nothing simple, I have a ViparSpectra 450w w/ bloom switch hooked up to a Century Timer. I just went and bought a small circular fan maybe 6 inches in diameter at Wal-Mart and tied it up in the tent to the top vent as an exhaust. It's in a tiny 2x2x4 Tent. I have a couple clones from my outdoor grow, 2 in pot rn and a few more in a dome, all in the same tent. Not obviously going to keep them all, just hoping the pick the best of the litter.

You can find a closet sized set-up for like $150 if you're only wanting to do it for personal use. You would only get like one plant, but there are larger options for tents as well.

Leafly has a recent article on their "growing" section on set-ups for like $150 and up if you want the whole list.

I got the same fan hanging from the same height as my lights pretty much. The fan was blowing directly above the plant pretty much. It was fine for a few days but eventually blew it over and I had to prop it up. I now know that that’s bad lol I also have a fan in one of the openings in the tent, above the plant. It’s blowing air from the outside, into the tent.

And I guess my lights arent strong enough so I’ll move them closer for now. This is the tent I have

This is the exhaust fan that pulls the air out running 24/7. The carbon filter is in the tent and the actual fan is on top the tent pulling air out.

I would love your reccomendation. I'm growing just a few plants currently. Also, I think my tent is pretty cold. It's at 75F currently, i'd like to bump it up to 82F. Do you have any suggestions?

Looking for some input on set up specifically for my lighting plan.

I'm using the supplemental lights to bring out my seeds and veg. Thought if stringing up the 4 other lights between my plants for extra lights.
Asking my experts in the field should I place the lights around or between my planned 4 plants.

I think she might be stretching a little so I put her on a box to help. She started outside with direct sunlight for her first two weeks maybe behind in progress?

Was on a 24 hour light schedule at first but after over watering I switched to 20/4

I know I over watered at one point but fixed the issue by aerating the soil around her to dry it up fast. I was using Radix but lower than the recommended use and have now stopped since I over watered her.

My soils PH is 7 and using PH down (carefully) after she was ready for some water, it still indicates 7 on the meter but I don’t believe it’ll be fixed over night in the soil with one watering.

I have a well and my PPM was 145 so maybe I should switch to filter water?

Temps been around low 80’s and humidity around 60s.

If I remember right she germinated around 20 Aug, is she on schedule?

Also, for my Apollo grow tent (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H9OJHYA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2WRS4X4C0GMOQ) - there are two 6" ducts on the sides and one 8" duct on the top ( shown in the diaggram in pictures ).

Where should I mount the intake, exhaust fan, filter, etc.. ?

I know you said you wanted a 2x2 tent, but I got this( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M9E10HP/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apap_MUzSNNH1AZ6hA)[one] and it has been great. Best purchase I've made I a while.
