He's probably using those trigger buttons that you mount on your phones.

They really do help but only in small amounts. The DS4 controller has a relatively small stick, so extending it may make it feel more like a controller you may be more used to. Either way, a larger stick gives a larger zone for control which allows you to use higher sensitivities more comfortably. Keep in mind that that is the only gain you get from them, they do little to nothing in terms of boosting accuracy. Honestly though, I could not imagine playing without an extender. The extra range of motion is very comfortable, and despite the fact I said they really don't help with accuracy, I feel much more consistent with them on, ESPECIALLY when at higher sensitivities, which is their purpose really. As a plus, they increase you analog stick lifespan too, as you've probably experienced rubber decay if you use only 1 controller for a long time.

As for which ones to get, never even consider one of the larger "sniper" style extenders. They are the most gimmicky of the bunch. Don't bother with one large and one small either, the large ones give absolutely no advantage. In fact, most games don't even adjustable sensitivity deadzones that would even let you use a large one to its full potential. Always go for the smaller CQC style of extender. I personally like the concaved, although the difference really just comes down to which one looks better as they feel virtually the same.

The adjustment period takes only around a couple hours before you get attuned to the extender. After a week, playing without it will make your controller feel naked.

But, yeah, the CQC ones are pretty good, but the larger ones are pure gimmicks. Also, Kontrol Freeks dominate the market, but they aren't actually that different from the cheaper bootlegs. Their build quality isn't amazing, but I suppose they do feel pretty squishy and nice compared to these PowerA Walmart ones I bought. The difference still is extremely negligible, and it's a shame that the most expensive extenders on the market feel virtually identical to the cheapest ones. Still, $15 is absurd, and bootlegs from Ebay will not only give you more options, but they will be cheaper and just as good, if not better.

As a reference, here is what the CQC style would look like. Oh yeah, and if you do take the Kontrol Freek route (still wouldn't recommend them unless you enjoy overpaying), then please don't buy Vortex. They are the bottom of the barrel in terms of Kontrol Freeks despite being the most popular.

If I were you, I would buy the rubber pieces that go under the buttons ($5 on Amazon) and follow this guide. If your rubber on your sticks are getting worn out, this is also a good time to just replace those. I did so with some aluminum sticks I found on Amazon as well, and will never look back. That rubber is total garbage.

I have fixed this problem in my controller before, and it just came from using R2 so much. I noticed it when playing games that used pressure sensing on R2. I took my controller apart and found the R2 rubber conductive part was split. So I fixed it by cutting a small circular piece of plastic packaging (hard) and super gluing on top of the button. I could not find the rubber conductive pads for sell at the time. But they do sell them now, for example

I have no idea of the quality of those, since i fixed mine. But that most likely is your problem is the button split.

Looks like these, but I don't think they're in production anymore.

Oh i'm with you, I tried a fight stick for around 100 hours during Tekken 7 and returned to pad. I actually buy fighting games on xbox because I much prefer the elite controller (and the circle cover you can put over the d-pad), than the dualshock. But I've looked into possibly buying something like this to try out for the PS4: https://www.amazon.com/Directional-Removable-Playstation-Dualshock-Controller/dp/B07C97S67R/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540611190&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+dpad

For anyone interested, I ordered the parts here...

I've never modded anything before so I think this came out pretty cool!

I looked into custom modded controllers because I didn't have enough money for a SCUF, but I was able to practically make my own using some parts that can be found on Amazon. I put them together into a semi-modded PS4 controller. The parts I used are listed below (non-affiliate links):

  1. eXtremeRate Dawn Remap Kit
  2. Aluminum Metal Bullet + ABXY + Joysticks Kit

I believe mine is the first gen PS4. Just checked it’s CUH-1001A. Would you say that this is quality replacement?

I use control freeks (standard ones with grip on top and the ones released when cod wwII came out) on a regular ps4 controller and I recommend only having one on your right stick. Its something you definitely should try and get comfortable with because I do believe it betters your aim from experience and others input. I know some come with a shorter and slightly taller stick always go higher.

Hear, hear!

I wished there is some way to maintain the current DS4 design while allowing the user to place the middle finger on L2/R2. I love how the DS4 fits my large hands, but at the same time hate how it the design discourages use of middle fingers.

Have you tried trigger extenders?: https://www.amazon.com/eXtremeRate-Pairs-ButtonsTrigger-Extenders-PlayStation-Controller/dp/B01M5JE04Q/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1491183061&sr=8-15&keywords=dualshock+4+l2+r2

The only major complaint I hear about the PS4 is the shoddy soldering job on the HDMI port. My friend who works at an electronics repair shop gets them in regularly for this issue. Just be gentle with the HDMI when you plug it in and remove it and try to minimize the amount you mess with it and you'll have no issues.

Everything else runs fine. If you're worried about heat, get a stand with fans in them like the one in the link below. I have never had issues and I sometimes forget to turn on the fan.
