Luckily for you, DanganRonpa is a very basic series to get in to. Mainly, at least. I'm gonna go ahead and run through it here, in case you or anyone else wants to save this to reference in the future so you don't have to google questions.

DanganRonpa is primarily a visual novel murder mystery video game series. In them, you will play as school aged characters, make relationships, then watch all of your favorite characters die and be forced to figure out which of your other friends killed them. I won't say any more about the plot, but it's somewhat Saw-esque, in that people are trapped, yadda yadda. No torture porn, though. For the most part, at least.

The first title, and the one you would play first, is DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. This is available for PS Vita as a physical release or digital download, but it was also ported to PS4 on the Danganronpa 1.2 Reload disc. Either works.

The next game in the series is DanganRonpa 2: Goodbye Despair. This is, if you ask me, a substantially better game than the first, and can again be bought for PS Vita physically or digitally, and was released with DR1 on the 1.2 Reload Disc I mentioned earlier. The PS4 version is pretty much the first two games bundled and released on PS4, since the series had been handheld only until then.

Also, if you're interested, Danganronpa 1 & 2 were originally Japan-only PSP games, and the Vita versions are actually enhanced ports. But we never got the originals. I digress.

Next up would be DanganRonpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, which I honestly can't recommend. Instead of being a visual novel, it's an odd third person shooter, and it's not a murder mystery or anything. The plot also ended up not being important. I would say just read a plot summary when you get to this point (not early, it'll spoil the first two games), and move on, but if you want this can be bought for Vita (the original release) or PS4 (a recent port).

Next up is DanganRonpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy. This is an odd one since it's actually an anime. They wanted to wrap up the story arc they had going, but they didn't want to be tied down by making it an interactive game, so they made it an anime. You can easily find it all online, the only hard part is finding the order to watch it. The show was split up into two arcs, "Future", and "Despair", with the final episode being the only episode in the "Hope" arc. If you get to this point, here is an episode guide (be extremely cautious about scrolling on that page, as you might have it spoiled for you; I think that same page has a plot synopsis). Watch it in the order listed there and no other order. The anime was overall good, but it definitely had it's flaws.

Finally, we get to the upcoming release: DanganRonpa V3: Killing Harmony. It has a confusing name, I know. I think they should've just called it V4, since even though it's only the third main game, having two entries with a "3" in it is confusing. Either way, this will be another game like DanganRonpa 1 and 2, with an entirely new cast of characters and a brand new overarching plot (since the anime of DanganRonpa 3 finished the plot regarding the previous characters). It will be released on Vita and PS4 on 9/26. However, it's been out in Japan since 1/12 so many spoilers are present online; be careful!

And that's it! In the end, be extremely careful about looking up anything about the series, as knowing who lives or dies could ruin a lot of the fun of playing them. There's also a couple smaller short novels and misc. Media, but I don't think they're necessary and I don't even know much about them myself despite being a huge fan. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

On a side note, if you're interested I can also do a rundown of the Persona games and their releases if you want, as some of them have been released multiple times with different features. Just ask if you want me to! I know it was frustrating for me when I had to do a bunch of google searches to find all the information the first time.

EDIT: Oh my god I can't believe I completely forgot the steam releases! Along with the PS4 (which I did mention), DanganRonpa 1, 2, and Another Episode have all been ported to steam this year, so they are also available to play on PC if you prefer doing so.

I have a Hori silicon cover and bought some Xbox One thumbsticks off ebay, cut the thumbstick tops off them and glued them to the top of some Bluecell thumbstick covers. The Xbox Thumbstick glued to the Bluecell one will look like this. You're going to want to dremel out a little under the XB1 thumbstick so the plastic Bluecell cover fits more flush in there and doesn't make the joysticks on the vita too tall because otherwise it'll interfere with the d-pad and buttons. Once you're done you snap the new covers on top of the Vita's joysticks and you're done! The end result looks like this.

The total "mod" took me about 15 minutes.

No one's suggested Danganronpa, re: games? Gotta fix that.

As a female vita owner who also likes J-games, I'm going to recommend Danganronpa. If you think your wife would like a game about teenagers trapped in a school and forced to kill each other, where one of the main characters is an animatronic wise-cracking bear. And if she doesn't already have it.

...only if she likes to read, though, since it's a visual novel (with mini-games and wandering around the school, but still a ton of reading).

If she likes that, there are two other Danganronpa games + a future game on the horizon.

If she ends up liking visual novels, there's also the Steins;Gate visual novel and Virtue's Last Reward (which I haven't yet played myself but have been assured is fantastic).

I also totally second P4G. And Project Diva, if she likes rhythm games. And maybe Hatoful Boyfriend, if you think she'd like dating pigeons.

There are also a bunch of classic PS1 JRPGs available for the vita via the PSN store for super-cheap, like Final Fantasy and Suikoden.

Can't help too much with accessories, except to say that you should definitely get her a big memory card if you can, and that the P4G Dancing All Night Collector's Edition includes a neat pouch and vita skin. Depends on whether she's into P4G, though.

Edit: quick grammar fix

I would recommend this one: ZTHY Sony Playstation PS Vita PCH-1001 PCH-1101 Battery Pack SP65M 2210mAH https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OTAZAPC/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_Cs9gybMH4K4DS Just as good as the original battery. Good luck!

u/Asaily · 10 pointsr/vita

I have this on my vita at all times. It really adds the experience for me.

u/thekbob · 8 pointsr/truegaming

I bought FFX/X-2 on the PS3, probably on of the hardest consoles to program for (Power of the Cell™) for $20. I got it on PC for less then that.

$50 on the Switch 18 years later?

Ridiculous...

Edit: An just in case someone states it's because it's on mobile hardware and because it's portable.

Amazon. I don't know how much that converts to in your country's currency but Amazon has them at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JFCA6V2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nQOJxbHXXSSJQ) for $122.

u/darksoulflame · 8 pointsr/steinsgate

While you're here, give the game a shot! Or if you don't have much time to read visual novels, go watch the anime! It's definetly a good experience and you'll see firsthand on why we love this series. :)

I've only gotten into the series like 2 months ago and I can't stop loving it. Try it out! Thanks for visiting.

u/ZebraMuffin · 7 pointsr/vita

Would taking a 5 minute break every two hours not prevent this issue?

If that's not enough, there are grips you can get for the Vita, and I recently purchased these for my analog sticks. I'm not sure if they would help with grip for sweating, as I don't usually sweat when playing games.

u/DankMemeYo · 7 pointsr/vita

Well there is no reason to worry too much, it is actually 9.99 on Amazon right now.

u/Gargantuace · 7 pointsr/gamecollecting

One new on Amazon for $740 right now.

u/mhunterchump · 7 pointsr/PS4

The bundle is $99.99. so for $20 bucks more, you can get a game, 8 GB memory card, and a Dual Shock 3 controller. A much better deal in my opinion.

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-TV-DualShock-3-Bundle-vita/dp/B00KVMHVQ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1415975264&sr=1-1&keywords=playstation+tv+bundle

u/RoombaRaces · 6 pointsr/vita

I had a similar experience recently when I picked mine up earlier this month. I had decided to try grabbing a bundle at Gamesetop, but all they had were "Gamestop Refurb/Recharged" units. I wasn't sure if those went through the same QA process at Sony, so I left without. A nearby Target had nothing at all.

I ended up ordering a refurb unit through Amazon along with some of the basics like a 64GB memory card and a screen protector.

But if I had to take a stab at the question of "Why?" I think I'd venture a guess that most of these physical stores don't move very many Vitas in a given month, if at all. As a result, I'm sure they'll stock maybe one or two at a time and reorder when that unit gets nabbed or at the start of the next month, who knows?

If you are considering ordering online, I can vouch for the factory refurbished unit listed here. Not a single defect to be found since these are all inspected by hand before going back out.

u/BigOnAnime · 5 pointsr/vita

They quietly discontinued the PS Vita outside Japan in 2016. You're going to have to import from Japan if you want a new one. Amazon Japan just recently got more stock of the black and aqua blue PS Vitas.

u/chinakat · 5 pointsr/vita

Not all the Ps1 classics are compatible, but a large amount of them are. Most will be available to download through your Vita after logging into your account, or you can go straight to the download list in the Vita store and get them from there. Keep in mind that some, but not many, PS1 games can only be transferred to the Vita via PS3, so you may want to hold onto your PS3 at least to do that.

Journey is not playable on the Vita. If you go to this link and search the game, it should let you know if it's playable on the Vita. So far it is limited to some PS1 and PSP games, and Vita games (obviously). Right now the only way to play games from other systems are either through the PS Now service which is now on beta on the Vita, or Remote Play through PS4.

If you have Playstation Plus, which you should because for only $50 a year you get free Vita, PS3, and PS4 games every month, you will probably need a bigger memory card than 16gb. You may not if you plan on getting mostly physical game cartridges. Keep in mind that even if you buy the FFX/2 cartridge, it only comes with X on the cartridge and gives you a download code for X-2.

If I were you I'd go ahead and get a 32gb memory card, or possibly import a 64gb from either amazon or superufo. You have to import the 64gb because it is only available in Asia. Luckily, the Vita and it's games/accessories are not region locked, meaning you can use any country's Vita to play any country's games and memory cards.

The only other thing I'd recommend is the Hori Screen Protector. It's absolutely the best screen protector I've used. It's not expensive and applies easily with 0 bubbles, you won't even know it's there.

That's all I have off the top of my head, if you have any other questions feel free to ask!

You'll have to print your own art, but there's some nice templates out there. Have them printed at an office store like FedEx or somewhere with a nicer printer than what you have at home if you like.

Then pick up some blank cases! https://www.amazon.com/Empty-Standard-Replacement-Boxes-Cases-Playstation/dp/B00B5JIHKU

u/OctoSevenTwo · 4 pointsr/persona4golden

Do you already own a PS4? I would go on Amazon and buy a PSTV. It’s a tiny little thing but it can play Vita games on your TV screen, and you can buy/download PS1 games as well so there’s more value. You do need to purchase a new controller to use with the system (I could be wrong), but those don’t cost all that much. I suggest getting a Dualshock 4 (basically a PS4 controller) as there’s some minor stuff you can so woth the touch screen.

  • Persona 4 Golden on Amazon

    $20.53 (based on lowest-priced option I found)

  • PSTV

    $249.95

  • Dualshock 4 Controller

    $42.99

So far, using all the cheapest options, that runs you $313.97.

You may be able to find certain things for cheaper, not sure.

Edit: Apparently the Vita goes for cheaper than the PSTV, clocking in at $220.

Swapping out the PSTV for the Vita brings the total down to $283.52.

Edit 2: I suck at math and logic. You wouldn’t buy a controller if you bought a Vita. Final price is $240.53.

I use this. It came with the Starter Pack and holds 8 Vita games cards and 2 memory cards.

u/arcticfox00 · 3 pointsr/vita

I use one of [these cases.] I can fit one of those (could likely fit two), along with the Vita-USB cord, some earbuds, and the console itself, into the official Sony soft case.

u/ZeroVII · 3 pointsr/vita

I've had similar issues with a 32GB card. Lost around 30 hours of progress in SAO: Hollow Fragment as well as all my progress in Gravity Rush, WipeOut, and several other games. I've since started backing up games to the cloud, but it's disheartening when you lose so much progress.

As far as cases go, I use one of the hard shell cases with swappable art inserts Gamestop sold a few years ago for the OLED Vita. It has eight spots for Vita game carts and two spots for memory cards, which is pretty neat.

That was part of an accessory set for the PsVita i had, using mounting putty to make it removable

they are not a perfect solution for the joy-cons, as the mounting putty loses its hold on it and can ghost diagonals if it does come loose, and the adhesive that does comes with it is rather thick, but it does fit perfectly in the shells. currently experimenting on making it work better

u/vitareviews · 3 pointsr/vita

Hmm...well they do go on sale on PSN every so often. I'm not sure how often, though. And sometimes it's only one that goes on sale, rather than both.

You'll want to play the games in order. Don't play 2 before 1. Also, Amazon currently has the retail version of Dangan 1 for $28.

u/ApatheticCreative · 3 pointsr/gpdxd

Others have already said basically the same thing, but I'll add to the pile.

The GPD XD will be great for everything you want to do with the exception of Nintendo 3DS, PSVITA and Persona 4. An actual PS VITA can be had used for a little over $100. If you jailbreak it, you now have access to the entire VITA library + Persona 4 Golden and games up to and including the PS1 and Gameboy Advance, but Nintendo DS emulation isn't really viable due to a much slower CPU compared to the GPD, though I guess they're working on that. Still no 3ds.

If you want everything on one device in your pocket, you'll need a GPD Win 2, which is orders of magnitude more expensive. It's also powerful enough to run Citra (Nintendo 3ds emulator), a Playstation 2 emulator (Persona 4), All consoles up to and including Gamecube, and all but the most demanding of PC games. The only thing you'll really be lacking there is VITA games, as there aren't any viable VITA emulators out there yet that I'm aware of. (Vita3k looks promising. Not there yet though).

A laptop with performance on par with, or better than a Win 2 can be had for less than a Win 2 goes for, but it's not exactly pocket friendly. Still, this might be a viable way to go paired with a decent controller as long as you don't mind lugging it around. Some benefits too, such as a larger screen and better heat management on account of a larger device.

Want extra style points and be Cyberpunk AF? Pair a laptop with an Oculus GO standalone VR headset and a controller. Use Virtual Desktop to put yourself in a virtual space in front of a gigantic hovering display and play all your emulators that way. You are now officially a huge nerd, and have to tote around a bag to carry all this stuff with you, but the concept is undeniably cool.

All of the 20xx series are the same console but differend bundles/markets, the original Vita is 10xx (OLED) and the Slim is 20xx (LCD). I recommend the HORI screen protectors.

Just look at it as a wired Vita.

If you purchase it by itself, you have to buy a Dualshock 3/4 and memory card, but there's also a bundle that comes with a DS3 and 8GB card. It should still be cheaper than a Vita either way.

u/ps_vita · 3 pointsr/playstation

Connecting it to your TV, and it's cheaper to buy than a Vita:

  • Vita TV - $80 delivered
  • Vita TV / DS3 bundle - $100 delivered
  • Vita Borderlands 2 bundle - $200 delivered

Sure there are used Vitas out there that can be had for less, but it's still generally cheaper to buy a new Vita TV. and if all one wants to do is play P4G, it's not a bad way to go.
u/ChichenJ · 3 pointsr/TwoBestFriendsPlay

I emulated P3 and P4 on my PC but decided this wasn't enough and wanted to support the developers. So I ordered a Playstation TV (Liam TV) and P4G (along with Freedom Wars since Liam and Pat said it was great). I'll probably also get P3P. I'm pretty hype because it should arrive tomorrow.

Amazon and Gamestop are having pretty decent deals on Playstation TV's right now ($80 for a normal one or $100 for one with a dualshock 3 and the lego movie game). Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-TV-DualShock-3-Bundle-vita/dp/B00KVMHVQ8/ (this is the bundle I bought.)

Geez that's pretty rough, I'd definitely recommend using a screen protector. I have a few very tiny scratches that bother the hell out of me and they at least became less noticeable after I put on a screen protector. Here's the brand I used. I can personally vouch for its quality, but be sure you thoroughly clean your screen beforehand and be gentle as possible.

As far as actually getting rid of them goes, most methods are a bit risky if you don't know what you're doing. Apparently you can sand them out gently with the right grit sandpaper but I don't know enough about that to know if it'd be good to try at home.

u/Stormcrow426 · 2 pointsr/vita

I use three things to protect my Vita: a case, screen protector, and silicone protector

u/Fluffy_Waffles · 2 pointsr/vita

IMO any case that is going to be used to protect the vita from drops and such is going to be a bit thicker than a case made to prevent scratches. If you want just a hard case I would check out this amazon case. What I would suggest doing tho is getting a carrying case like this and buying a rubber cover or a nice personalized skin. And of corse always use a screen protector.

u/diversionmary · 2 pointsr/vita

So far I bought:

PDP trigger grips

An adapter so I can char be via any USB charger

Sony screen protective film

Kinda ridiculous that they purposely disabled the ability to charge via any USB charger.

u/xenetic · 2 pointsr/vita

I use a combination of a protective film and hori face cover. Doesn't add a lot of bulk compared to the hard cases but still reasonably protects the system IMO.

u/MaevynBunny · 2 pointsr/vita

This is the case that I have. I adore it, and I scanned in one of the designs they give you and made it all Dark Souls. Holds a decent amount of cartridges, a couple of memory cards, and is a solid exterior.

u/Dhianeila · 2 pointsr/vita

I've been using this but it's been sold out apparently since I purchased it. The 3-4 ring grip is extremely helpful with gripping.

The ones you linked, I can't even tell what shape they are unless it's a smooth grip since the picture quality isn't great. If you do have them please take pictures.

u/Hikikomori_ · 2 pointsr/vita

I have the PDP Trigger Grips. Be warned, if you have a "full" screen protector (Static Cling or Water applied) it will scrunch it up unless you work really hard to either trim the water applied/static cling or some how mess with the Static Cling.

---

Some additional accessories that I find useful:

Of course, a travel case. Depending on your style pick a cloth or hard case. I personally like my official Sony Travel Pouch. It's soft and has lots of room for the Vita, headphones, extra games, and a cleaning cloth. Hard cases (Usually 3rd party) are pretty good depending which. I also have the DreamGear hard case as a more travel friendly when going to another person's house. My issue with it is that the case itself fits really snugly with the Vita where it can push on the Power button.

Official Vita Travel Pouch (9.33. Free shipping with Prime)

DreamGEAR 7 in 1 Starter Gear Hard Case (12.99 Free shipping with Prime or $25+)

---

You also want a back screen protector for the back touch panel alone. That thing is very prone to scratches.

---

Thumbstick grips are also very great for the extra grip you want. Sadly, the one I have is discontinued. So I can't really recommend a product I haven't used.

Bluecell Thumb Grips

You can certainly find others. Just read reviews. Be a smart consumer!

---

A great pair of headphones is a must if you travel a bit. I would wholeheartly recommend the official Sony Vita headphones. Great sound and cheap. Has a built in Mic but I'm not sure how good that is.

Official Sony Vita In Ear Canal headphones ($11.95)

---

A handy 2A-2.1A outlet USB charger with a spare USB Vita Cable is always nice to have around traveling.

Please Note: When purchasing additional back up battery packs or charging outlet thingies. Make sure it's 2A to 2.1A (2,000 mA to 21000 mA. not mAh**) output. The vita needs at least 1.5A output to be charged while playing or 1A while off (Very slow).

For a while I kept my Vita in a soft, slim slip case, just as I had for my PSP. But while the PSP would fit in my pocket when necessary, the Vita was a bit too bulky, and I'd be afraid of ruining the screen or the analog sticks.

Sure enough, I eventually got a small scratch on the screen so I put on a screen protector finally. Then I got a hard-shelled slim case so I can pocket it once again.

edit:

Here's the case I got (thanks to another Redditor posting it). It's simple, slim and protects it well. As others have said, it probably won't help much against big drops, but why the hell are you dropping it to begin with?! :)

Also, it has no storage for games, but as someone who has an all-digital collection, that doesn't bother me one bit.

u/Nefarious-Tuna · 2 pointsr/vita

While this case isn't a hard pouch, it is one of the slimmest case you can buy and your vita won't move around in it.

u/batmanismyconstant · 2 pointsr/vita

Doubtful. The only copies on Amazon are through a third party seller right now. They're more expensive than its normal retail price: http://smile.amazon.com/DanganRonpa-Trigger-Happy-Havoc-PlayStation-Vita/dp/B00DVPMVIU?sa-no-redirect=1

The Danganronpa series is pretty highly regarded.

Tearaway is also a good choice. Really utilizes the Vita capabilities well.

u/TheFailingPlayer · 2 pointsr/PERSoNA

They've seem to have gone up in price a little, but fish around eBay or Amazon for them because its lifespan has been over for awhile now. I've seen them go from ~$100-$150 used without any extras. Keep in mind you may have to shell out extra for memory cards and chargers, though buying a game cartridge rather than a digital download saves a lot more space. Still recommended to get an 4 or 8 GB chip though.

And they do cost more, but a PSTV is also a great investment depending on your tastes. Its not as portable as the Vita, but you get full screen support for TVs and you can play it with a PS3/4 controller.

eBay

Amazon

Both are good choices and allows you to access almost every game in the series (minus P3FES, Q, Q2, the fighting games, and 5. Maybe one of the P2s also). You'll get your moneys worth if you want to get deeper into the series or explore the Vita's vast JRPG library.

u/rattlebag · 2 pointsr/vita

It was this one and it has already arrived.

Looks like they have put the price up a bit following this announcement. Play Asia recently had the sky blue ones which are nice.

I also recently ordered a used PSTV...

Feeling the end of the VITA a little!

u/ExposureSetLong · 2 pointsr/vitahacks

Got a used FAT PS Vita with 3.63 from Amazon Seller. Should I keep it?

So I placed a PS Vita (assumingly ver2) order from a seller on Amazon. I assumed version 2 (Slim) because the product details mention PCH-200* as well as pictures, show micro USB charging port.

FAT PS Vita I received seem to be in excellent condition (no scratches, fingerprints or any scuffs). I spoke with Amazon rep and they offered to give me a credit of $20. Given that I got a PS Vita with version 3.63 (that gives me plenty of room to hack) should I keep it?

I have a Switch (non-Homebrew) and I thoroughly enjoy it. My main reason to get Vita was to remote play with my PS4pro, mostly at night time while resting on my bed. While homebrewing was not my main objective since I have the option I might just well.

If you guys where in my position what would you do? Keep Vita 1 and homebrew it; Keep Vita 1 and put 3.69 on it or just return it an order from another seller?

I paid $135 for this vita.

EDIT: Thanks guys. After reading your comments and chat at the discord channel, I think I will keep the FAT Vita with me.

I bought this instead. Excellent build quality, sadly no space for games or extra memory card but you're not going to get those with a pouch either.

u/Streetfoldsfive · 2 pointsr/vita

I have been using a Vita hard pouch for my 2000. I recomended to another fellow on here a while back and he's enjoying it as well. You can find it in numerous colors on some sites like Nippon Yassan. The case is protective and light. The inside is a soft material to protect it. No bells and whistles but does the job.

There's probably not much you can do repair-wise. You can contact sony about it and they'll probably replace it for a huge fee (probably over $100). The problem is that it's a touch screen and it's probably connected to a digitizer.

I bought a screen protector and a case to prevent stuff like this from happening.

u/FlyingNeonPoop · 2 pointsr/vita

I got this Hori bundle for my Vita a while back, and I love it so far: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L6AVNE0/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1453765743&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=ps+vita+hori+case&dpPl=1&dpID=51PqIB4QuoL&ref=plSrch

But holy cow, it did NOT cost this much when I bought it. I think it was in the $20 range when I bought it. I can't attest for any other cases, but I really like the hard pouch this bundle came with.

You can purchase it by itself here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00F34B6JW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1453765792&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=ps+vita+hori+case&dpPl=1&dpID=51VDNXHbqhL&ref=plSrch

I don't know if it will fit in your pocket, but the case itself only fits the vita, so I thought it wasn't bulky.

I recommend this one. It's great and inexpensive. However I'm not sure if it's available on amazon uk or not:

I've got the slim and picked the CTA grip up on Amazon last monthActually these, which you can charge while plugged in, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GZG8CV2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It fits in their great. I've never actually used a Vita without a grip(bought the grip before I even got it) so I can't give a comparison.

All I can say is I wouldn't play my vita without it. The only drawback is the fact you have to remove it to put new games in(I buy physical if I can)

I passed up the battery grip because I only play it at home, and there are lots of conflicting reports on the battery itself, so just went with CTA.

u/therm0pyle · 2 pointsr/vita

I'd return the used FFX copy you bought and buy a new copy from Amazon. Amazon has it for $21.49. Assuming you got the used copy at GS, that's only a $1.50-$3.50 difference (depending on whether you're Rewards Pro.)

This is probably your best bet man. I don't know how good Sony refurbs are though. It sucks but 1000s were discontinued in like January and finding a new in box one for less than like $270 is going to be really hard.

the amazon option is by far the best.they are all factory refurbished and everyone in the comments section has given them 5 stars because they look brand new.so 160 dollars is a bargain.plus Amazon customer support is the best.if the item comes with any scratches of any kind you contact them and they give you an advanced refund so you can purchase anything else you want, i purchased a factory sealed oled vita from Amazon for 258 dollars the device came factory sealed has promised but it had major problems with the screen and dead pixels.contacted them and within a few hours had my money back and purchased the limited edition Onigara vita for 4 dollars cheaper than what i paid for a standard oled vita.so i highly highly recommend he purchases a vita from amazon.with factory refurbished you don't need to trouble yourself worrying about defects.http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Computer-Entertainment-PlayStation-Vita-Wi-Fi/dp/B00JFCA6V2/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1416190882&sr=1-3&keywords=ps+vita and on top of that you can sign up for amazon prime..and get it in two days then just cancel after the 30 days.

Well lets hope they have a Limited Edition like they did with the first one, even though it was a total fiasco that could have been avoided. If anyone doesn't know what I am talking about IF is publishing their games on their own and they stated that there will be 1000 unit of the limited edition and one per person on Amazon. They also stated that it would not go on sale till 12:00 PM western standard on release date which was the 26th. (For those on the east coast that is 3:00 am for us.) Anyways it sold out in less than 4 minuets after posting time on Amazon because well the one per person rule was not implemented. I personally got one and it is being shipped to my house still but re-sellers are selling their copies for upwards of $500. I Just hope that they fix this before they think about releasing another limited edition of theirs.

Here is the product page if anyone is interested or did not know about it.

About the only way I know to get a real DS3 new is to buy a Playstation TV Lego The Movie DualShock 3 bundle.

https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-TV-DualShock-3-Bundle-vita/dp/B00KVMHVQ8/

The PS TV is a pretty meh console since it only plays a minority of Vita games, but it does play Persona 4 Golden and Muramasa Rebirth. And then the Persona dancing games if you like rhythm games.

u/gaardus · 2 pointsr/vita

All of the major retailers' ads have been released or leaked. No Vitas. If you're okay with settling for the Playstation TV, it's on sale leading up to BF at Gamestop and on Amazon. If you don't want to go with a PS TV or a used Vita, your next best bet on price is probably to import a Vita from Japan, oddly enough. (SuperUFO is legit BTW, even though its website doesn't give that impression.)

P.S. All Vitas are region free, can be set to English, and can sign in with a US account. The functions of the O and X buttons are swapped in the menu and maybe some games, though. (O is used to select things, X is cancel.)

u/Permafrost13 · 2 pointsr/vita

You can try looking for deals for a Vita TV since it has less parts that you'd normally expect to degrade over time and usage (screen, battery, buttons and analog sticks).

An extra battery or two won't hurt either.

P.S. I bought a spare battery for my Vita when I had been getting that low battery notification issue months ago. I thought the battery was already on its last leg, but it turned out that I just had to pop my Vita open and reconnect the battery to fix the glitch :P

u/wizardfingers · 2 pointsr/vita

So it turns on with the charger plugged in? Does it show any sign of power? Make sure you fiddle around with it when you're going to see it in person, check if it looks like its been tampered with.

If its not been tampered with and you don't mind spending the $40 that's a damn good deal.
Is it easy to fix? Yes if you're good with simple tools and careful and know how to follow instructions.
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/PlayStation+Vita+Teardown/7872
8/10 is a good score. The higher ifixit gives a hardware product the easier it is to fix so yes.

As of this post 12/26/2014 this ps vita battery on amazon is $30.

Via iFixit
> The battery is secured to the back case with a pair of Phillips #00 screws and... well that's it. There's no adhesive!
> The Vita's battery runs at a standard 3.7 V and packs an impressive 2210 mAh punch.

From the looks of ifixit getting to the battery is a very simple and easy fix.

The Vita is a very good handheld device if you're a casual gamer. You can find some good games here and I'm sure you can find a lot of suggestions here as well

u/Shock47 · 2 pointsr/vita

So i just recently replaced my vita oled 1001. In my research I haven't seen anything different about the batteries. Just different batteries for the 1000 and 2000 model.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OTAZAPC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the battery I purchased. Been using it a lot. Looks almost identical to the original battery. Took 10 minutes to replace and works great def recommend. No issue with vita memory card I believe the Sony cards have an issue degrading over time which is most likely the issue. Don't think the battery would make a difference.

I think you're looking for this grip and if you are using it for remote play and want to the R3 L3 buttons you are looking for either this version with the attachment. I've ordered the first one, but have yet to receive it, so I cannot vouch for quality, so look for reviews.

u/hypersonic16 · 2 pointsr/vitahacks

Actually, the one I bought is for the PS Vita 1000. It’s this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0776CVLK9/
The only downside has been that the L3/R3 sticky pad comes off after hours of disuse. I’ve never had it fall off during gameplay. I’m sure a better adhesive could be applied to fix that problem but I haven’t bothered yet.

u/BlackWaltzNo1 · 2 pointsr/vita

They look like these but unfortunately they have no reviews. Maybe having a couple different names will help you find some info though?

How much room is left after you put the 3DS XL and Vita in there. Do you think I would be able to fit my Vita and 3DS Game cases in with it?

u/BleuberryCream · 1 pointr/vita

I don't. Even with my DS I keep my games at home with 1-2 on me if I take it out. I never saw the point in carrying more than 4 games (or your enjoy collection of games) with you each time you leave. My Vita largely has all the games I really really love to play already downloaded onto it (or at least a game that will scratch an itch).

I do have this case and it has 3 games in it and my 4GB memory card (that is wasting away...)

I've been using this Nyko case for two years now and it's very sturdy. It's a hard metal shell with some soft lining on the inside. I've used it for travel, kept it in my pocket, and dropped it, and it holds up well. The only drawbacks are you can't put any shells/covers on the Vita, and there's no space for anything else, just the handheld. I use Switch PowerA game cases for my games (almost the exact same size so they fit snugly).

Persona 4 Golden has some added Social Links, some new features like a vegetable garden (basically letting you grow items that you can't usually purchase), some additional characters and story events for said characters, additional Personas, new explorable areas of the overworld, a bonus dungeon, new music, costumes that you can wear to affect a character's appearance only, more playable days if you're on track for the true ending, various QoL adjustments to the battle system, and a special epilogue.

It sounds like a lot, and it kinda is, but don't let it put you off P4 Vanilla if Golden represents a bigger financial investment for you. The vast majority of the game is mostly the same. If you're really looking to play Golden and don't have a Vita, I recommend the PS TV, which has near-complete Vita functionality for only $40 (and the Vita has plenty of good games, mind you. May I also recommend Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc?). Golden is also only about $20.

He did mention Amazon. You'd have to buy the Japanese version and then apply a translation patch afterwards. A bit of Googling turns up a few other shopping sites as well.

For games that have not been officially released in the west:

u/Aperture_Kubi · 1 pointr/GameDeals

They don't seem to stock Danganropa. It was on my watchlist along with FFX-HD. I'm sure I could have figured out a 3rd game to go along with it.

u/maturra · 1 pointr/vita

Correct - these are Japanese retailers. The handheld's had some life there, and continues to draw in a niche dedicated market.

If you're not averse to importing, you can get a Vita from Amazon JP for about $173 USD shipped. Or, you can splurge a bit, for a few bucks more, to get one of the swanky coloured ones.

Have to go to other sellers on Amazon/New Used, check New, then search for Amazon.co.jo directly, it will go out via global shipping which only takes a few days. I got one a few days ago actually, came with 3.68 firmware (meh) but was only $170 shipped, not bad for brand new.
u/ThePfhor · 1 pointr/vitahacks

I live in Japan and just ordered one sold by Amazon Japan, the all Black model (PCH-2000ZA11) hoping it will be on a firmware lower than 3.60. I purposely avoided the newer colors for this reason. My finders are crossed. I will post here if it's good to go. I will receive it Wednesday (thank you scheduled delivery).

Here's the link: https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00F27JDTU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also I bought mine directly from Amazon.co.jp (this link for some reason brings you to a third-party seller, you have to select the option to buy amazon.co.jp on the right side of the page to buy from them).

u/revenantae · 1 pointr/vita

I bought a bunch of these when I last went to Akihabara. They've been great for both species of Vita and my PSPs.

u/LogicalFlakes · 1 pointr/vita

What you want is a pouch or sleeve. I would recommend something like the old PSP sleeve/pouch that came with the PSP phat. At least material wise. As thin as possible isn't a good idea, you want some thickness to absorb the shock the Vita will get from jiggling and to not scratch the screens on either side. I tried using my old PSP pouch on my Vita 1k, but it was too wide. I believe the slim will be as well.

I suggest getting something where the material is soft on the inside and sturdy on the outside. Although if you're placing your vita where it wont get smushed or smashed by yourself or any outside force, then go for it. That's a good pouch. I've seen similar for $6 on amazon.

This one isn't that bad.

u/Shentok · 1 pointr/vita

I use this (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F34B6JW/) and I love it. I don't know if there's anything that folds back like you are asking, it seems like it would be cumbersome for holding while playing.

u/jjawss · 1 pointr/vita

very basic zip around but i ended up getting this for my slim: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F34B6JW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

there's only a couple of millimeters for it to move around and my vita is in perfect condition. it's perfect and allows me to just toss it in my bag without being too bulky. nowhere to keep extra physical games, though, but most of mine are digital.

u/TheGreatWhiteFunk · 1 pointr/vita

I've been using these for some time now. They don't add a ton of size but give me extra control for sure. I only used the square-ish shaped ones and the ones with the raised/pointed directions. Love em. I have both the silicone and hard plastic variants and find the silicone to give a better grip feel on the thumbs. Was considering the Xbone thumb stick covers, but they wouldn't be compatible with my case and would hinder portability. Hope this helps.

u/Mr_Masterman · 1 pointr/vita

I don't know about getting the marks out, but you could always invest in some grips to put on the thumbsticks like [these] (http://www.amazon.com/Bluecell-Control-Controller-Joystick-Playstation-Vita/dp/B00G3TV6Q4/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1414085075&sr=1-1&keywords=bluecell+vita). I use them myself and they're actually pretty nice.

Have you tested remote play over the internet yet? Some people don't realize the upload speed required. (at least 2mb/s upload is OK, 5mb/s is recommended i guess)

To run you press the down arrow ..

Otherwise - I use mine all the time.. and honestly the only issue is with aiming. The analog sticks are not nearly as good as the dualshock 4. I added a grip to mine shortly after I got it which helps and there are some analog grips you can try that might help.

That's strange.

It's sold as a package deal (X and X-2) in the US. Why are they being sold as separate games in Korea?

u/miyari · 1 pointr/FinalFantasy

You've probably already bought the PC version, but I wanted to point out that your pricing is totally wrong (assuming you're in the US). Firstly, FFX Remaster for PS4 is $20 at Best Buy and can probably be found similarly priced online. Secondly, FFX Remaster for Vita is $20 at Amazon. The PC version is currently on sale, which makes it a great option obviously, but it's normal price is $29.99.

It's worth noting that the PS4, PS3 and Vita versions of the game all offer cloud saving with your PSN account, so you can save your game in one version of the game then pick up where you left-off in on another system. I've been alternating between the PS4 and PS Vita versions for the past week or so and totally loving it. I can sit in front of my TV and play for a bit, then let my boyfriend take it over for his FFXV session while I continue playing on my Vita. Then at the end of the night, I can just take it to bed with me (oh my). Next day, the cloud saves from the Vita are ready for me to continue where I left off on the PS4. For $40 I think it's an awesome experience, but it totally depends on your gaming style.

Also, it's worth mentioning that I find both versions (PS4 and Vita) equally beautiful with crisp sound quality. Perhaps I have low standards; I don't play a lot of next gen games. I have an OG Vita and the game looks positively stunning on the Vita; I honestly can't tell a huge difference between the versions besides knowing that the portable one will have a little less oomph since it is the PS3 version. This site has some side-by-side comparison shots of the PS3 version vs PS4, which can give you a little idea of what to expect (just keeping in mind the Vita's screen size, of course). I haven't experienced any sort of bugs and I'm pretty sure all of the ports are essentially the same but I'm sure someone who knows better might be able to correct that assumption.

I vote yes. There definitely won't be a new Vita coming out any time soon. Any new releases will most likely be fully-compatible upgrades, like the recent Vita 2000 upgrade, which was the same thing they did with the PSP. I mean, it's already got hardware almost as good as a PS3.

First, the good
-
There are a lot of great games on it that aren't all pervy Japanese ones (and if you're into that, there are lots of those too). There aren't a lot of western titles, but the ones that are there are great. Here's a quick list of some great non-indie Vita games:

  • Killzone Mercenary
  • Persona 4 Golden
  • Freedom Wars
  • Gravity Rush (Gravity Daze in Europe I think)
  • Uncharted Golden Abyss
  • Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z
  • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
  • Final Fantasy X and X-2 bundle
  • Borderlands 2
  • Soul Sacrifice and Soul Sacrifice Delta
  • Tales of Hearts R
  • Dustforce

plus it can play almost all PSP games, including the Peace Walker. There is also Playstation Now which is like a digital Blockbuster where you stream all the titles to you Vita.

And if you have a PS4, you can obviously do remote play.

    Lastly, the bad :(
    -

Not much AAA western support recently. As you probably already know, the Vita is the butt of many jokes, and the 3DS has sold way more units. For this reason, games like Killzone Mercenary are relatively rare gems, and likely not going to see any sequels any time soon. This is not to say that there aren't any AAA games, because there are. a ton. In Japan. The Vita is extremely popular over there and for that reason there are a shitload of games. Unfortunately, the majority of those don't get localized for the west (looking at you Sega, greedily haoarding Phantasy Star Online 2). Also, Japanese games aren't exactly the most...familiar thing for western gamers. Lots of pervy stuff there that most people aren't comfortable with.

Occasionally though we do get some really awesome games from Japan, such as Freedom Wars. Also, Resident Evil Revelations 2 is coming to Vita.

As a fan of the Vita, I hope you get it because more people buying it means more games. Sure, it might not have Pokemon or the Legend of Zelda, but it is a great console with a ton of features.

u/pspita · 1 pointr/vita

Speaking for the US options, the base model doesn't even come with a memory card. The one bundled with a DS3 comes with an 8GB card. How many games it will hold depends on the games, but in general it will easily hold more than one PSP/PS1 game. Single-layer UMDs hold less than 1GB, so most PSP games are under that size. CDs hold 700MB, so most PSone games are under that. Once you start adding Vita games, all bets are off. For example, the download version of Borderlands 2 will take up about 5GB all by itself (with the DLC). Most games are smaller than that though.

u/Dakftw · 1 pointr/swordartonline

It would save to a Vita memory card. Your best bet is to get the tv, a Vita memory card and the game. I have the tv, and I bought it for the sole purpose of Hollow Fragment haha. There's two types for the tv the bundle and solo. Between the two the bundle is the better deal, if you don't have a PS3 or dual shock 3/4 controller.

u/shinyemptyhead · 1 pointr/PERSoNA

PSTV is slightly cheaper than PS Vita, but still pretty expensive. (There's one on Amazon for $129 right now.

u/proxibomb · 1 pointr/vita

I got the Red Japan-exclusive PS Vita for pretty cheap off of eBay, but the only hurdle I had to get around was replacing the battery. If you don't know how to replace them, or are extremely nervous with doing it, I highly don't recommend getting an OG Vita unless you know someone who's willing to replace the battery for you.

Reason I'm mentioning the battery in the first place is because old Vita handhelds drain super fast, and have a lot of battery errors like going into sleep mode because it thinks it has no battery, when in reality it does.

You can buy a replacement battery for cheap off of Amazon, and it works like a charm once it's installed. Good luck, happy shopping~

So I saw how Ape Escape is difficult to play, due to the missing L2/R2, L3/R3 buttons. This led me to thinking that some of my other beloved games on psx might be difficult. Let alone remote play.

Then I hear someone say that a Hori grip gives you those buttons. From looking into it, it appears they press the touch panel for you. It's perfect.
But those appear few and far between, plus I saw some reviews saying they were kinda bad.

I also would want a grip for my 1000. This thing looks good.
