Here's a tip for people who need to be sure they'll be awake before a certain time:

Step 1: Acquire materials.

  • Full-spectrum lamp (depending on your setup, desk lamp or floor lamp) NOT a regular lamp or fluorescent

  • Timer for power outlet (available as singles or power strips)

    Step 2: Position materials

  • Plug the lamp into the timer

  • Point the lamp at your bed

    Step 3: Program timer

  • Set it to turn on an hour before you absolutely have to get up.

  • Make sure it will stay on for at least an hour.

Results: You will wake up to "sunlight" at the lightest point in your sleep cycle, when it is appropriate for you to get up.

This setup solved ALL of my sleep problems. I am in college, and I was a notorious night owl and anti-morning person. I slept through my share of classes in the first two terms before I set this up. Now I wake up bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and ready to kick butt, no matter how much sleep I've had.

Perhaps you are overthinking this.
Why not just plug in your diffuser into a mechanical indoor timer on an outlet? You could easily set it to be on and off during the day. Of course it would only be for one oil, but you could use two different diffusers.

Check this out:

Your question is too broad and without knowing your background/experience, there's not really an easy way for people to help you (everything would either be over your head or way too explanatory and ramble on for 5 pages).

Rigging up a custom circuit just for your box fan is overkill. Just buy an outlet timer and set it to turn off 2 hours after sleepytime.

Here you go:

Here is the humidity controller I'm using. The humidifier pipes in the wet air through the black pipe in the photo. There's also a ventilation fan run on this timer, on for five minutes every 90 minutes around the clock.

u/About2Weeks · 7 pointsr/microgrowery

it was DIY, very simple. Fill a reservoir with pH'd water. Run a pump on 7 day timer from reservoir to plants with tubing and tees. The halo rings are optional but work nicely for distribution.

Set another pump in overflow reservoir to flush excess water out of the tent into a 5 gallon bucket.

Unfortunately, I've already disconnected the system, but I have some photos of the initial setup. I ended up having to place all of the plants at an equal level because the pumps were too weak to pump up to the elevated plant. So my canopy was uneven while i was away, not a big deal.

Some nug closeups and my only photos from the watering system

Here's most of the equipment needed:

I use one of these TIMERS to turn off power to my router for a bit every morning around 4am. Slightly cheaper than $60.

u/Morgothic · 6 pointsr/Bonsai

You could go even simpler by plugging your fish tank pump into a programmable electric timer like this one (Amazon, $13). You won't have the ability to water remotely, but how often do you need to water your trees outside of a regular watering schedule?

That will get you started on your first grow or two. I recommend auto blue mystic from nirvana for your first run. They are very low smell while growing so you can get by without a carbon filter. They’re autos so you can leave the light on 24/7, and they finish fast. Also turns out a great finished product.

https://www.nirvanashop.com/marijuana-seeds/815-blue-mystic-autoflower.html

Less than $40 for 5 seeds and very discrete shipping.

When you have a bit more $ you can add on additional items. Eventually you’ll want to upgrade to PFD sun boards or quantum boards, but you’ll probably want to get a fan and filter first:

If you don’t want autoflowers you can just do 12/12 from seed for faster harvest. https://www.royalqueenseeds.com/blog-how-to-grow-cannabis-from-seed-under-12-12-lighting-n330

But I really recommend doing the auto blue mystic for your first round or two.

I'm not OP but I have a similar setup in my apartment. It's not as nice as OPs but it's working well for me.

I have a floating shelf with a 2 ft T5 light hung above it on an electrical timer. It's hard to see in my picture but it's quite bright. I think it looks pretty nice and allows me to keep a small collection on display (I have the shelf right at eye level).

Plug in a lamp without a shade and 150 watt flood pointed at your head. You will be up instantly. The first time my wife and I tried a 300 watt halogen, when it lit up we both woke up in a nanosecond screaming due to out retinas burning out. Bonus you can plug anything else in to it to wake you up, stereo, blender...depending on how obnoxious you want it to be.

Edit: Set-and-forget with an inexpensive timer for your lights; here's my favorite.

u/choodude · 3 pointsr/Coffee

I'd like to recommend a digital timer such as:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006LYHEEY/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_-uJgzbZJTVQQE

That one has an internal battery that keeps the programing through power failures (I hope it's obvious why it can't turn on During a power failure), and keeps exelent time.

That kind of gadget frees you up for many of the other's suggestions.

Think about it, you could go low tech, and have a hot plate from a thrift store under a kettle - you could use a vac pot (heat the water in the lower pot on the timer, put the top on when you get downstairs. (Ask me how I know)

So I Hope that opens up some thinking for the folks looking over our shoulders.

I just completed my first run with rockwool and drippers and man have I learned alot along the way. There's no easy answer to those questions because of things like plant size and what stage of growth they're in. Most commercial grows I've seen are hand watering during veg and switching to drippers for flower. Here's a couple links to vids that I learned alot from

https://youtu.be/EkNAKXMDFsg

https://youtu.be/L7ufD00dFS8

I would recommend a timer you can adjust to the seconds. Like this one
https://www.amazon.com/NEARPOW-Multifunctional-Programmable-Countdown-Electrical/dp/B07QJ3K43N

Dialing in the drip times wasn't easy, and I was still making adjustments as the plant grew larger. I started out with one irrigation cycle per hour during lights on in the beginning, but then changed to 12 per day, and now in flower I switched to 9 per day, but I also recently learned that in bell peppers yields were increased with up to 30 cycles a day, so I'll be making more changes next run.

One other thing. I've been using floraflex subsurface drippers, which I thought were a great idea to supress algae growth on the top of the rockwool, and they do, but the plant roots grow right into the drippers and clog them, so you have to replace them every month or so, unless you can find a good way to clean them out.

All these solutions are overkill just use something like an outdoor photosensor plug and use that to power what /u/bal00 mentioned.

For your lighting, getting a digital timer will make your life so much easier. I have Century 7 brand from Amazon, only $13. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MVF16JG/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1495566943&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=light+timer+century&dpPl=1&dpID=41Qwe9JjZ5L&ref=plSrch
It has two outlets so one for heat and one for UVB. I have 2 basking lights + UVB so I plugged a power strip into the timer and now I can plug in more stuff! It'll turn your lights on and off for you every day so you don't have to worry about forgetting and won't have to wake up early to turn lights on. My lights are on at 7:30am and off at 9:30pm.

u/basshead_queen · 3 pointsr/succulents

Here is a picture of my set up. Lights are about a foot away from the plants (could probably be close but they do just fine) and are on for 16 hours a day via this timer! :)

A humidity and temp sensor

Plus a small clip on fan.

GROW DETAILS

I have three different strains, Northern Lights, Pre-99 big bud, and pure power plant, and then an unknown seed(which I planted about two weeks ago as the previous unknown seed turned out male, see previous post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/microgrowery/comments/5qo1yo/early_sign_of_balls_details_in_comments/0. One in each 3-gallon smart pot. For the first two weeks of growing I had an 18/6 light schedule, and then switched to 12/12. (I'm essentially doing 12/12 from as early as the plant could respond to the change in light schedule). Over the past 15 days I watered twice with tiger bloom nutes.

I definitely made the mistake of not listening to your advice when I originally posted and am trying to grow 3 plants in a 1.5X2.5X3 foot tent...It is getting crowded, I should've listened and stuck with one, maybe two plants. Other than that I haven't had any problem that I have noticed other then a few spots of damage on leaves occasionally but no pests or wilting. I'm sure there are things I could've done better though. Thank you for all your help, I can't wait to get to harvest.

u/mak13721 · 3 pointsr/succulents

Sure! I used these lights from amazon. I think they are supposed to be for garages but they met the specs I was looking for (CCT: 6500k and 2100+ lumens per square foot per light) and were relatively inexpensive. I have 2 on each shelf connected to eachother by cords that are included in the pack. The pack also comes metal snaps that screw in, but I opted to attach using large command picture hanging strips. I kept the metal brackets just in case the command strips didnt work but so far they have been working great and I dont have to put as many holes in the hutch. Plus I have run the lights for 8 hours straight and can still touch the aluminum housing. I would say after that amount of time its like touching one of those hand warmer packs right when they start. Its kind of hard to see from the pictures but I did have to drill small 5/8th inch holes so the lights could connect as a continuous unit. This was honestly just for me because I am forgetful and have them hooked up to this timer. I also have some mini fans that I would like to put in so I can keep the doors shut... but I havent quite figured that out yet haha

u/DrAllison · 3 pointsr/ReefTank

First off, if you can afford it and you've done your research, the Apex is absolutely 100% worth it. Control topoff, light dimming, dosers, heater, sump pump (feeding modes), etc, and an awesome web interface.

Now then, the more sane version is something like this. http://amzn.com/B004TGO6RY With that you can set a ton of on off times for the total minutes you want your dosers running. You can even run them at different times in the same location.

I personally have my Apex set to oscillate 1 minute on, 20 minutes off for 10 hours every night. You can't quite get away with that many cycles with a straight digital timer, but could do something similar.

u/thorium007 · 2 pointsr/Cisco

If they've figured out proxies - I'd give them a free ride at this point. Anything you do, they'll find a way around short of buying a timer to connect your switch/router to

u/JuneBugg94 · 2 pointsr/bettafish

>Century Digital Timer

Hey, question about the timer! I've been looking for two timers for my two tanks while I'm away during Christmas for 2 weeks. I've never used a light timer. If I want the light on, say, from 8am-8pm, do I just set a 12 hour period at 8am, plug the light (turned on) into the timer, and it will run 8am-8pm consistently daily?

I've also been looking at this timer

u/joshhooper7 · 2 pointsr/cigars

This is the fan I use and this is the timer it runs on also.

u/bekindrewind · 2 pointsr/snakes

You don't need a "night light", you want your snake to have darkness at night. Light and heat should be from two separate sources, and make sure your heat source is always controlled by a thermostat. If your room does not receive ambient lighting from a window, etc. you can use something as simple as a clamp lamp with an led light bulb screwed into it, plugged into an outlet timer. As long as the light is not overly bright (grow lights or aquarium fixtures can be too bright) and your snake has a place(s) to seek shelter this will work fine.

u/reverendj1 · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

Thanks. If it works, I'll post how to do it. It's pretty simple. It's not a lamp heater. It's a heated massager and a lamp timer.

u/KimberelyG · 2 pointsr/Aquariums

Bit late to the party, but it can also help if you put their light on a timer (like a cheap plug-in one) so it always comes on and goes off at the same time. Makes it easier for your fish to learn to anticipate when it'll be bright or dark - after awhile on a constant schedule they don't act so startled when the lights change.

u/flunkymunky · 2 pointsr/hardware

u/r_sarvas · 2 pointsr/beermoney

that's tricky... you could easily do it with two lights.

one using something like this on a plug in porch light,

and then just have your hard wired flood lights on a motion detector.

u/iShatterBladderz · 2 pointsr/GrowingMarijuana

Yeah, so most cannabis plants , except for autoflowers, are what’s called “photo-period” where their growth is determined by the light schedule, so we basically have to recreate natural patterns of sunlight.

During the first stage , Vegetative stage, you want to run your lights on 18 hours, off 6. During this phase, you train your plant to grow the way you want it to. See: Low-Stress Training, Supercropping, Mainlining, etc. the plant does not create flowers during this stage. I always flip my plants into flower mode whenever my plants are a little under half the size I want them to grow to, as they can double in size or more during flower.

To put your plants into flower mode, you just switch the light schedule to 12 hours on, 12 hours off. Flowering times vary based on strain, but average is about 8-9 weeks of flower before harvest.

You can get a digital timer for your lights on amazon for cheap. This is what I use in all of my tents.

u/bull0143 · 2 pointsr/succulents

u/SGRainz · 2 pointsr/reptiles

So I don’t know exactly how much I’ve spent on my beardie since he was given to me with almost everything I needed to care for him, but I can give you the basics.

First off, for the flooring you can use paper towels to start, or contact cabinet paper that can be found at a dollar tree. I don’t think tile is that expensive, but if you’re unable to get some at the moment those work just fine. I also suggest covering the back and sides of the tank so the beardie doesn’t see its reflection and get stressed

You’ll need at least one hide on the cooler side, which can be made from something as simple as a small cardboard box with a hole cut in it or some bricks that are arranged into a cave-like hide

A basking area can be made from bricks purchased at Lowe’s or Home Depot, or if you choose to use any driftwood/rocks you find just make sure you clean them properly

Calcium powder is also extremely important to help your beardie not develop MBD. I’m part of a Facebook bearded dragon group that suggests this brand sprinkled over greens/bugs three times a week: https://www.chewy.com/repashy-superfoods-calcium-plus/dp/166276 I poke some holes in the paper lid with a toothpick to create a shaker-type deal so I’m not wasting any calcium

I think one of the most expensive parts is the UVB light since they can get pretty pricey, and since they need to be changed every six months. Here’s an 18”, along with a fixture that could be used, but obviously with a longer tank you’ll need a longer size: https://www.chewy.com/zoo-med-t8-reptisun-100-uvb/dp/126590 https://www.amazon.com/GE-Fluorescent-Included-Workbench-16466/dp/B000HJ75PW again, I usually stay away from reptile brands for things such as fixtures because the cheaper version works better and lasts longer. The T8 bulb needs to be hooked into the tank, which I use zip ties to the lid but Velcro to the side also works, as long as it’s 12” away from the basking area

Heat lamp with dimmer: https://www.chewy.com/flukers-clamp-lamp-dimmer-85-in/dp/129140

Pack of 90w flood lights (make sure they’re halogen, not LED): https://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-90-Watt-PAR38-Halogen-Indoor-Outdoor-Flood-Light-Bulb-2-Pack-466268/205541724

Digital temp gun: https://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Lasergrip-774-Non-contact-Thermometer/dp/B00837ZGRY

Light timer for both lights: https://www.amazon.com/Century-Heavy-Digital-Programmable-Timer/dp/B00MVF16JG

Vet bills and fecal tests can be pricey as well, depending on where you live. My last vet appointment with mine, which did include a test for parasites, cost around $300

While I don’t know how much I’ve spent on my beardie, I can safely estimate it’s $700+, give or take a bit. One of the most expensive is buying the greens and bugs for him. I’m growing a garden to feed him but since it’s not ready yet, I have to constantly buy him collards, turnip and mustard greens, along with various fruits and veggies which can go bad very quickly. I’m in the process of looking into buying his superworms online where you can get a better deal, but at the moment I’m paying 100 for $10 at my local exotic pet shop, which he goes through quickly.

I don’t know how old you are, but if you say you’re not old enough to properly take care of a reptile I would wait a few years or so until you get another. Bearded dragons, while more of a beginner reptile than others, still require a lot of time and effort to make sure they stay healthy. I would recommend doing a lot research throughout the next few months (look at multiple sources, don’t just listen to people at a pet store because often they don’t know what they’re talking about), and if possible, perhaps slowly start gathering the needed supplies in order to properly care for one

I hope I covered everything since reddit refreshed and deleted my first response before I finished, but if you have any more questions you can always message me (:

I think you can buy appliance timers separately and plug the machine into it somehow so it will turn it on when you want? Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-SA110-Heavy-Appliance-Timer/dp/B000DZC226

I don't know how this would work with an espresso machine though--it might depend on the kind of machine.

Slow cookers work great with appliance timers no need to interrupt a good booze induced sleep.

I use these programmable timers for my iguana and turtle lamps. Each timer can control 2 devices and support 8 daily on/off cycles. Great for fish tanks, too FYI.

Just get an outlet timer like this one

Unfortunately, LEDs with high enough lumen output are expensive.. It's just a fact of life. I would go with T5s to start. But, if you have a pretty small footprint, you could use this this LED light,. I've never used it, but I believe people are relatively happy with it.

u/newtolou · 2 pointsr/homeautomation

Might be easier to go without a hub for that. Just use something like this and restart on a weekly timer.

u/247condition0 · 2 pointsr/hydro

You don't need to spend a lot of money to accomplish what you want. Just get as many of these cheap basic timers as you need, one per schedule. Say you want your lights on at certain times but everything else on at a different time, all you need is 2 of these, and plug in a cheap power strip to the timer so you can hook up as many appliances as you need to the timer. Not sure why you would even consider spending so much on just a timer...

u/mburke6 · 2 pointsr/gardening

I bought two of these light panels, and founds that they were a tiny bit too large to fit under my cabinets. I dissembled the frame and found the LEDs were simply mounted to a thin piece of sheet metal. It was easy to trim the sheet metal down by about 1/4" with tin snips to fit. They're plugged into a timer that's set to 12 on 12 off.

u/PersnicketyPrilla · 2 pointsr/Parenting

Your previous post mentioned that this started after day light savings time. Have you considered just putting her to bed at her regular (before the time change) time? Then maybe adjusting bed time by 5 or 10 minutes every night to make it an easier adjustment for her?

Also, I let my kids stay up as late as they want but only if they are in their bed reading. This goes for all three of them (11, 7, and 2.5) and has always worked wonders for keeping them in the bed. They usually fall asleep on their own within 30 minutes or so. We have these lights strung up in the toddlers room on a switch timer so they automatically turn on at bedtime and off 30 min later. Gives him enough light to look through his book (his current favorite is "Too Many Carrots") and we don't have to risk waking him up to turn them off later. The 7 year old has a cute cat shaped silicone light, which she adores, and the 11 year old uses a head lamp from our camping gear.

For your space, If you blow directly into it, I would purchase a 4" diameter blower fan and carbon cannister filter. Also, I would reverse the fan direction and have it blow into the filter, and then you blow right into the fan intake and keep it near your rig, cannister on the floor and fan on top.

Something like

Finally getting around to installing a CO2 system in my established, planted 45g community tank. The tank is mainly comprised of mosses, dwarf hair grass, tall hair grass, crypts, and a few java plants. I've had problems with black beard algae so I adjusted my light regimen and treated it with H2O2 until it was gone. Now I'm getting growths of green algae, so at this point I'm ready to install a DIY paintball CO2 system to combat the algae, so I can use my lights to their full potential, and to increase plant growth. The parts listed below are my starting point, let me know your thoughts...

>I called customer service and was told it's "normal" to have to reboot everything daily

This was true years ago. It was common to have to reboot routers and'or modems to clear up problems. It really should not be an issue with newer equipment. If you try it a few times and it works, buy a timer to automate the process for you. Just set it to turn the outlet off at two AM for a few minutes and then turn the outlet back on.

https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Programmable-CANAGROW-Electric-Grounded/dp/B07MC2MJG4/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2UV2YZ6EEJD0J&keywords=outlet+timer+indoor&qid=1565533600&s=gateway&sprefix=Outlet+timer%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-7

Finally, if you have owned your own equipment for a long time and it is older equipment, you might actually be falling into that group where you do need to reboot regularly. Or you can try updating the device firmware which may help.

I got you. I would skip over the Nicrew all together and just opt for something more expensive that will get the job done but is still in your price range. I have had the Nicrew, lights in between the Nicrew and what I am about to recommend, and then the lights I am recommending are now on all my tanks. There is SIGNIFICANT difference in plant growth even in my suuuuper low-tech tanks.

  • Light: Finnex Fugeray Planted+

The main reason I suggest these lights is they contain true 660nm Red LED lights which are crucial to plant photosynthesis. Without this specific red spectrum most plants have significant difficulty utilizing the light, no matter how strong it is. Here is a picture of one of my tanks running this light: https://i.imgur.com/hYhcp9Z.jpg

  • Wall timer: Best ones hands down in my humble opinion: Century 7 Day Programmable Wall Timer

I don't know about best practices.. but this routine worked when I had to wake up early (4/5AM) to catch the bus:

Before bed:

  • Running on the treadmill for 1/2 hour
  • Camomile tea, shower
  • Avoid laptop/tablet/phone
  • Place bottle of water on bed stand
  • Plug in your brightest lamp to something like this and set it to your alarm time so it turns on when you are supposed to wake up

    After waking up:

  • Drink the water immediately

You could try drinking a glass of water before bed for times when you definitely don't want to oversleep, it'll force you to wake up 'cause you have to go to the washroom.

    Hope that helps :D ..

If you have a somewhat sophisticated router you could just set the ethernet port to its own VLAN and ensure that everything on that VLAN is configured as you'd like, possibly via firewall rules

----

One alternate, low sophistication approach is to get an ethernet switch just for that user. Plug the switch into your network via ethernet and plug the switch into a timed electric plug

Wow, thank you for this post! I was wondering why both of my Samsung Galaxy Exhibits recently started getting this weird splotch in the middle of the screen. Turns out, it was the bloated battery pushing up against the screen from underneath! I also happen to have a bunch of other phones (some running Perk, but most running other apps constantly), and almost half of them had bloated batteries because they've been plugged into chargers (both regular and multiple port USB chargers) 24/7. I just ordered replacement batteries, but I also just ordered this so that I can have all the phone batteries cycle automatically (worth it to me since I have so many phones).

Technically, any plant will be fine any high light, but it's always a good idea to try to pair the plants with the light that you have, or vice versa. With even just a Stingray, you'll probably be hitting 45-50 PAR on a 20 long, since the distance from the light to the substrate will be absurdly short. The best way to alleviate this is to raise the light somehow, either with some sort of pipe contraption like I built, or mounting it to the ceiling or wall.

For that high of light, I would definitely recommend a timer that allows multiple on-off periods and have the light on for 3-4 hours, then have a 3-4 hour siesta, then on for another 3-4 hours. This way, the plants have time to use up all of that high light they've gotten from the first burst and they'll be ready for the next. It won't overwhelm them and it should keep algae in check to a degree. If this is a new tank, prepare for diatoms... delicious, disgusting, aggravating diatoms.

Edit: Here is a great article about lighting and PAR

I don't like the analog timers because they make clicky noises. I've also been through A LOT of various timers on Amazon because I own 2 auto cat feeders along with my multitude of reptile lights. I will break down my experience for you:

Enover TS18 Digital Timer -- I needed this for my triple-prong power strip and it worked for a couple months but then started turning the "random" feature on by itself and wouldn't turn off in the evening. Junked.

Westek TE08WHB Timer Strip -- I really like this one and I still use it for a couple of my cages. I like that 4 are timed and 4 are always on. NOTE though that when the power goes out this does NOT keep the time and will reset, which is very annoying.

WenTop Digital Timer -- I used this one for my single cat feeder for awhile, but it eventually stopped working for some reason. I never figured out why but it stopped turning anything on. Junked.

Century Digital Timer -- I bought a second feeder and needed a timer that had 2 outlets. This one has worked well so far, but you may just need a single outlet.

Woods 50006WD Analog Timer -- I still use these when my digital timers break lol. Honestly, they're really reliable, they just make that clicky sound that drives me nuts. But it's a great deal if you're just looking for something that works with no frills.

Nearpow Digital Timer -- My most recent purchase. I've only been using it for a few weeks but has been working fine. It has a bunch of settings, I have no idea what all of them do, I just need it to turn the lights off and on lol.

I came to say the exact same thing. I'll add a few things:

  • Plan according to every task taking the longest it's ever taken, and then if you can afford the risk of being late, you can reduce your worst case estimate by 10-15 minutes.
  • Make sure you're awake on time. If waking up is hard, get a programmable outlet and turn on a light for slightly before your alarm goes off
  • If you wake up and look at your phone, add that time to your estimate
  • Set a second alarm for when you need to get out of bed.

There are a million grow-weed-easy or cheap tutorial on the net and I really recommend reading some to get an idea what you need to do.
A good starting point now a days is a LED grow light as it will be much less trouble and safer than using a bunch of CFL lights which are considered the cheapest but all the reflectors and adapters add up.
https://www.amazon.com/MarsHydro-Mars300-Spectrum-Hydroponic-Greenhouse/dp/B00XC3LBI2/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1478136990&sr=1-1&keywords=mars+hydro
This is a decent starting LED light for $80 and will work for 1 big plant or 2 smaller ones. This will grow you about 4 ounces easy if you put some effort in.
Then you need some decent organic soil if you want to go cheap. Do NOT use miracle gro products, cannabis hates it.
https://www.amazon.com/FoxFarm-FX14080-Ocean-Forest-quart/dp/B00CJJ8N3G/ref=sr_1_2?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1478137481&sr=1-2&keywords=ocean+forest
That soil is about $16

Other stuff you need will be planters and a light timer.
https://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLTIME-Mechanical-Increments-Construction/dp/B00BDGHJK4/ref=sr_1_9?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1478137614&sr=1-9&keywords=timer+light

Now we are at ~$110. This is a good starting point for a very small 1-2 plants grow that could give you 4 ounces if you do your research and put in about 3-4 months of time. You can get 3 grows in a year with that set-up and a small cabinet.

If you can't find an actual alarm clock like that, have you looked into a 7-day programmable outlet timer, that you could maybe plug a radio (or mp3 player+speaker) into? I use them to make lamps into light "alarms" for my bedroom. Mine was running at night and waking me up for awhile, but I was able to find the leak and fix it. I don't know how often it would run if I never used it now, but I'm guessing once or twice a month. I was also paranoid that a hose or fitting would fail while I was out and the thing would run 24/7 until the motor burned out or burned my house down or something. One day I was outside setting the timer for my sprinkler and thought, "There's got to be one of these things for electrical as well." Sure enough, there is:

So now I just twist that thing and for 12 hours the compressor has power and I don't have to remember to turn it off. I bet you could find something similar for 220 if you have a bigger compressor.

Here's the amazon timer:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MVF16JG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just cycle small periods of time like 30 minutes. I use every time slot possible and just let it cycle throughout the day.

I am quite happy with the following (I use on a 10 gallon and a 3 gallon at the same time using a T-fitting and two diffusers and two indicators):

Diffuser @$16.99 ea https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXFUGE5/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This diffuser is good for hanging on the side of your tank. There are many others to choose from.

7 day timer @$14.65 (Three prong plug for regulator solenoid): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006LYHEHG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You DO NOT want to let it run overnight because they say it will suffocate your fish.

CO2 indicator @#17.89 (need one for each tank) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z9KWTHS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

CO2 proof tubing @#9.99 (regular tubing may leak CO2!) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008UCOFJW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Regulator with bubble counter and solenoid @$69.99 (Yes, this one works great at that price) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N42JPDV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Adaptor fitting to get regulator attached to a paintball tank @$9.90 (I had to modify this part, so pay attention): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I2UMZ2Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Paintball tank @$21.49 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007XKFQCM/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Dicks Sporting Goods will refill for $5 using your tank.

The issue with the adaptor is that the one I got had a bleed-off relief hole too far down in the threads such that the hole was exposed even when the tank was fully screwed in because the thread depth on the tank was shallow (fewer turns total) compared to the adaptor, Had to plug and re-drill the hole.

You should at least look at these components as part of your evaluation.

Started seeds in early november. Put in the system around november 8th. the last pics in that album were around nov 16th, so about a weeks worth of growth. i pulled out the lettuce tub today to clean it up and i'm gonan replace it with a DWC bucket for some cherry tomatoes. here's pics of the peppers in their current state http://imgur.com/a/NY6xR . insanely bushy and got a few peppers and a TON of blooms that are quite healthy.

the lettuces were a mix of Perpetual spinach (A type of chard, it did insanely well), some oak leaf, some butter crunch, and some romaine. The lettuces did pretty well, but I think I was overcrowding the tub. Also, most of those lettuces really didn't do too great with the "cut and come again" type harvest, but the P. spinach did GREAT. You could slice off the outer edge leaves at the base, and the next day it'd be back to growing new ones at a crazy pace. I think next time, I'm just gonna do a tub full of it cause it was not only delicious eats but grew very very well. Lettuce is just so damn cheap at the store that it was not very practical to grow in the tubs, which is why I'm pulling it out to start some cherry tomatoes. With as good as the peppers are doing, I imagine a cherry tomato plant in a DWC bucket will thrive quite well.

Here's everything else I'm using

The nute levels were around 1000-1400 (Meter seems to fluctuate). I have hard water with a base PPM of about 160. The nutes I added had calcium/mag added, so I was a little worried about possibly too much calcium since my water definitely has plenty, but nope, no issues. Big healthy green leaves and fast growth. No root rot as well. Only issue so far is aphids. Lots of the little fuckers. Going to my local hydro store here today to try and figure out a solution

I have a small heater for my 1 gal "hospital" tank http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J3WA1J6?keywords=aquarium%20heater&qid=1449639922&ref_=sr_1_12&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A7043857011&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-12
That heater is an all on or all off heater. What I did is hooked it up to a timer, that turns it on in 3 hour intervals 3X a day. The timer I purchased: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006LYHEEY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
I've been using these things for a week together and so far so good, however it's not a lot of time for things to go wrong.

As for transport, do you still have the old plastic cup he came in? That would probably be the best way to transport him. Anything that minimizes sloshing.

I just set up a really basic watering system so that they got watered while on vacation, using:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B013JPIJG4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018WVNXC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 (I should have gotten larger, but this works)

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MVF16JG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I timed how long it took for the pump to go thru a 5 gallon bucket (my normal amount to water) 3 times, and set the timer to go off for a little longer than it took on average, on the day I wanted them to get watered.

I'm now using it to water since I'm in flower and it's easier to just let it water them while in darkness, since I'm only awake for a little time they are getting light.

For anyone wondering about the CO2 Setup, here is a quick writeup that includes all of the Amazon links and prices:

I am using a TV stand for my aquarium that looks like this and the entire CO2 setup fits in one of the smaller cubby holes. I am using a 24OZ Empire paintball tank that has this adapter hooked up to this regulator.

Those three items will makeup the majority of the cost of pressurized CO2. The other things I bought were a drop checker, a CO2 diffuser and CO2 airline tubing.

Finally, I bought an outlet timer since the regulator I previously mentioned has a solenoid valve.

The core components are the tank, adapter, regulator, tubing, and diffuser. The total of those came to $130. Adding on the dropchecker and timer brings the total to $160. Filling up the paintball tank at my local sporting good store cost 5$, but that should last this tank anywhere from 3-6 months.

You may be able to assemble the entire setup for cheaper if you can find a cheap paintball tank and a smaller diffuser, or already have some of the items needed.

Some of this advice is terrible. Your problem is not with you not being a morning person, or not using a strict enough alarm, but with the state of sleep you're waking up in. The problem with most alarms is that they don't take sleep cycle into consideration, and will wake you up regardless of the depth of your sleep.

What has worked for me, and has [actual clinical evidence behind it] (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawn_simulation) is dawn simulation and a sleep sensor on my phone.

For the dawn simulation you'll need to set a light on a timer. This can be as cheap or as expensive as you want, but I'd recommend a cheap proof of concept so you don't drop too much money seeing if it works. [You can buy super cheap analog timers on Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009XS1GJE/ref=mh_s9_acsd_zwish_b24rM_c_x_1_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=mobile-hybrid-5&pf_rd_r=NHCM8SRQ5MZWY6K36FSD&pf_rd_t=30901&pf_rd_p=ec102b6f-1674-5e3d-9fb1-7ec72820e6e1&pf_rd_i=495340), and just hook it up to a light in your room. Set the timer to go off a half an hour before you wake up and ideally don't have the light be blinding, just enough to simulate dawn.

As for the sleep sensor, you can download sleepbot which I use, or use any other one, but the idea is that the app tracks your movement and noise, and wakes you up close to your intended time when you are not in REM sleep. This helps your immediate alertness in the morning and keeps your groggy self from falling back to sleep. You don't need shitty math alarms or pictures to take because the goal shouldn't be too torture yourself awake in the morning, but to work with your natural sleep system. Set the alarm to wake you up between the time you actually want and the time the light has turned on, and set the volume to gradual so that it can ease you out of deep sleep.

So the way this works is that the light goes off a half an hour before you're supposed to get up, and then sometime in that next half hour, when you're not in REM anymore, the alarm goes off. You'll wake up feeling alert and ready to kick ass. And you're actually working with your body's natural systems.

Bonus points: want to fall asleep better? Slowly begin to dim all the lights in your room at the same time every night (for example I turn off main light at 7, turn off the TV at 9 and begin to dim my phone until I'm ready to actually sleep. It's basically dawn simulation in reverse.

Actually, you can edit comments and posts, but not post links and titles.

If you are on reddit desktop, edit your comment with your link, select your link, press crtl x to cut, highlight the rest of your comment text, and then press CTRL K. Then ctrl v to paste your link.

That will allow you to embed the link into text like this.

On desktop I recommend using old.reddit.com with a Google extension called reddit enhancement suite. Better browsing experience imo.

On mobile, I recommend using the app relay for reddit.

I just bought a 10 port usb and a timer that's seems to be the most recommended.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D0KI1U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OJ79UK6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
.

this kind of information of watts and volts just goes over my head.
I also plan on buying another surge protector.

u/Mickybagabeers · 0 pointsr/electricians

They make plug in receptacle timers. You plug the timer into plug, plug coffee maker into it, no tampering with anything.

Turn coffee maker on, have the timer set to 600 am to 630 am or whatever, and as long as you prepped the coffee maker it will start at 6.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XHM1ZZ4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517688468&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=plug+in+timers+with+outlet&psc=1

That's just the first one I found. I'm sure if you look you could find simpler/more complex ones for what you like.

u/demosthenocke · -1 pointsr/slowcooking

It seems the comments mention two hurdles to this problem: bacterial growth, and avoiding leaving it on warm for too long.

The best solution I can think of is something like this plug-in timer. This one's kinda pricey, but it's just an example (also, I'm not sure if you need one with a ground or not).

You can turn on the slow cooker before you leave for work to avoid the "delayed" bacterial aspect, and then set the plug-in timer to shut it completely off after ~3 hours of warming. You should arrive home to a perfectly-heated pot o' goodness without the pesky worry of intestinal destruction!
