I think my favorite part is the part where she claims the most deadly thing on the "Brits" carry is the sharpie marker when that person clearly has a knife, a Gerber zip blade, in their carry.

Kershaw Shuffle II.
Mora Companion.
I know this will get buried but I have decided to revamp my whole EDC.
/u/ieatedjesus I have taken the plunge on the Wallet you have recomended. I hate when a product has no reviews or I can't do research about it but whatever. I'm also super stingy with money so this is a huge deal for me lol ($42 with engraving)
As for the pen, I have decided to get a Fisher Space Pen $15. I have 3. Now I will have 4. (also bought a clip $5) ((also bought fieldnotes $10 for the wallet))
/u/odomandr I have decided to go with that knife $16. Nothing sexier than a good stone wash and minimalist design. I also need a knife. No idea about the quality but today I have decided to trust a total stranger on /r/EDC
/u/Ryl4nd99 Thank you for the great idea of a post! I hope to post again when everything comes in. I decided to add/replace my edc with the items above. I also carry a muthafuckin Casio as well as an Olight s2 Baton along with dollar store chapstick. Hopefully I can keep you updated or make a new post when all my goodies come in!
Sorry for the wall of text. Thank you for reading.
I dont really know if you care about credentials or not, but because it may lend some weight to my opinion I figured it may help. I am a first responder in Florida as well as a concealed carry weapons permit holder. I care strongly about my tools and the items I carry. Now that I am done being pretentious, here is my pick:
Without a doubt, the #1 knife that I carry is the Kershaw Blur- Glassbreaker. It is an assisted opening, locking knife with a metal handle, textured grip, and the option to have a serrated portion. The glassbreaker edition comes with a diamond tip on the end of the handle you can use to.... break glass. (Who knew, right?)
I have had mine for almost 6 years now of daily carry and use. Never chipped or broken on me and it is still sharp, although it definately could use a sharpening. If has held up near saltwater and constant body sweat.
To top it all off Kershaw offers free maintenance, cleaning, and sharpening on all their knives. You just have to pay for shipping it in.
I highly recommend the Kershaw Blur- Glassbreaker! https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Black-Glassbreaker-Knife-SpeedSafe/dp/B0074FIPEM
Edit: Btw, be careful looking for 'spring loaded' this is a broadly used term that can land you in legal trouble if somethjng happens. Check your state laws. I am not a law expert, dont cite my opinion, but usually length (cutoff is usally like 3inches) and direction and mode of opening matter a lot for the legality of a 'spring loaded' knife!
Although the Instant is an alright knife, I believe that it is overpriced at $40 with a blade of 7Cr17Mov steel.
Kershaw Clash is about 20 bucks, made with better steel (8CR13MOV), assisted opening and also has lifetime warranty.
Kershaw Skyline at the price range of $35 has better steel (14C28N) than the Clash, assisted opening and the same warranty.
"I bought a seven-dollar pen because I always lose pens and I got sick of not caring." Mitch Hedberg
I drunkenly bought a $20 space pen 2 years ago and still love it, but $160 for a knife isn't a careless purchase for most people. If you like the simple/clean style of the ZT, you might be a fan of the Ruike I just picked up a few months ago for an EDC ~$30.

This. This all day.
I would split the difference and get a rambler. Ruike knives are very well made given the price point. Look at their whole line.

If you are OK with buying brand new, a few popular options here are some suggestions with Amazon (USA) links:
There are many other popular "solid state" keychain tools like the Shard out there, but I did not want to list out many of those.
Sorry for the lack of info fellas. I posted the pic last night and totally for got to add the specs.
Ok. So to summarize what you want:
Will be used for
Some things you also mention
>when I want to use it, I want it to do the job properly
You listed off a large range of tasks, an I personally feel that for all those things, some of the knives you are looking at might not be necessarily the best.
My Thoughts
Firstly, I would advise against using any knife as a go-to seatbelt cutter. For safety reasons you don't want to accidentally stab the person whose seatbelt you want to cut. Especially since tanto blade shapes are designed to maximize tip strength for stabbing/penetration. For your emergency needs I feel this or this would be better.
As for camping, a tanto blade is not "ideal" but for the tasks you I assume you'll be doing I think you'll be ok. A blade with a nice belly (the curved part of a blade, like a drop point) has more utility as it will be easier to slice food, and offer you a bit better control. But I mean if you like the tanto shape than by all means =).
If you feel like you're not going to have it on your person everyday, then that Kershaw RJI should be more than sufficient for your needs. Just because Kershaw's price are lower, they definitely do not feel like "cheapies"! Kershaw has great build quality, 8cr13MoV is an OK steel, and will be easy to touch up.
I haven't had any experience with SOG so I can't say much about them, other than that /r/knives is a fan of the SOG Flash. As for ZT, they are wonderful knives. they are a little big to have in the pocket, but the quality and craftmanship is definitely there. For how lightly you will use it, If I were in your shoes, I am not sure if I can justify this as a first buy, unless you have a real appreciation for knives.
Other Options
They are all around the same blade size, and same "look" as your suggested 3. The first 3 are around the same price range as the Kershaw RJI and are community proven knives. The last is around the price range of the ZT 0700, but in my opinion is a better buy. Griptilians are a joy to use.
That's my $0.02, hopefully I didn't overwhelm you too much!
I have one of these on my keyring, super useful.

If you can push it to 50 CAD, the Ruike P801 is very well regarded and appears to ship from Canada, so no customs issues.
Might not fit in your scheme but a really nice knife.
Ruike
The new Gerber Flatiron doesn't look too bad for a Gerber.
The CRKT Pilar also has somewhat cleavery design and will be great if you prefer a smaller knife.
My choice was the Ganzo Firebird 7551, good quality plus I like the looks and the way it cuts.
Now that it's summer, new EDC is necessary.

Look at the Kershaw Leek, its got a good 3 inch blade, it practically disappears in your pocket, is basically a modern gentlemen's folder, and can get it in several different colors. Its one of the most popular knives out there and is well made. Only thing to watch out for is the tip, its very thin and can break off if you try and use it as a pry bar. You can find the leek for about 40-60 bucks depending on the model.
Link - Kershaw Leek
If you're looking for something heavier duty, the Kershaw Blur or Freefall would be good buys. I use a freefall as one of my EDC knives and think its a great buy for the money. The blur is very well regarded as well, though I don't have experience with one myself.

Link for Freefall
If you don't absolutely need the spring assist, another idea would be a Spyderco Delica 4, or perhaps a Spyderco Persistence if you want a little cheaper price. Both are solid knives for the money and aren't too bulky in the pocket. You can get the Delica in colors too!

my friend has one of these. It's a bit slower than the leeks because of the big blade, but it does fine.
Item | Description
:--:|:--
Lowepro Stealth Reporter camera bag | Bought this with another bigger, heftier Lowepro for $50 private sale. Ripper bag and has a zip on the top to get the camera out without opening the bag.
Blackrapid Sport Camera strap | I got one of the first iterations, I think - I feel like it cost me about $80, but this was like 6 years ago now. Great strap - allows you to have the camera hanging at your hip, ready until you need to shoot.
Nikon D3200 | Well, I'd love a cheeky mirrorless, but I've invested in the Nikon ecosphere with the lenses and the cheapie 3200 does everything I need it to do - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 ED VR | This lens is something else - fantastic focal range, fast glass, gold ring...just kisses fingers
Nikon SB-700 Speedlight | Not a big flash user - didn't actually use it on the day, but it was there, ready to go if required :)
Victorinox Rambler (swapped red scales out for black) | Stick it in the coin pocket with the Olight and you have an EDC champion - I have it with or near me 24/7 whcih I can't say for most of my gear.
Olight i3E EOS | Stick it in the coin pocket with the Victorinox and you have an EDC champion - I have it with or near me 24/7 whcih I can't say for most of my gear.
Emporio Armani 310/81 Polarised perscription Sunglasses | You need a nice, protective pair of glasses, living in Australia and these fit the bill.
Bic Lighter | Candles.
Leatherman Sidekick | It was going to be my new Victorinox Swisstool, but that's heavy in the pocket and I didn't want to belt-carry as laws here are a little open-to-interpretation with blade legality, so I stuck this in the watch pocket with its pocket clip and didn't actually use it all day.
Sharpie Fine Permamnet Marker | Useful for stuff like writing who presents were from on the paper!
Leatherman Carabiner on Keychain | Keeps my keys all nice and organised by separating the car key from the fob/house keys
Jaragar Automatic Tourbillion watch | A cheap watch that looks a lot more expensive than it is. Automatic movement, probably not a true tourbillion, but all the same, a classy piece. One small bugbear I recently noticed - it's Roman numerals and the 4, which should be IV is IIII. Damn cheap Chinese watch!
Hi! And welcome!
I like the Gayle Bradley 2 in M4, and the BM Valet in M390, but they are both very expensive to start out with. The Shuffle II is kind of crappy - I'd definitely pass on that one. I have no experience with
the Bartender Defeder, but even the XL version looks too small, as is the Rodie. The Delica and Leek are great knives, and would likely be solid options (their ergonomics are better than their handle lengths suggest, especially the Delica). The CRKT M16 is ok, but it's not great (in my opinion). I've never handled CRKT's Endorser, but it looks like a solid choice.
My best suggestion is a RAT 1 in D2. It's 40 bucks and you get a very well-made knife in D2 (semi stain resistant and will hold an edge for a good long time). The AUS-8 version is good, too, but if you're cutting boxes, the D2 option will stay sharp way longer.
As for some other options, here are some good ones from CRKT:
Foresight - It's big and comfy in-hand, but it's expensive for the materials used (aluminum and AUS-8)
Shenanigan - lighter and cheaper than the Foresight, but with the same blade material (AUS-8)
Outrage - aluminum handle and 8Cr13MoV steel (similar to AUS-8, id est, reasonably stainless, decent toughness, ok-ish edge retention), ball bearing pivot (nice and smooth!)
Ripple - aluminum handle, 8Cr13MoV blade, ball bearing pivot
With these suggestions, it may seem like I'm a shill for CRKT, but I'm not. I'm just a fan of Ken Onion's designs and ergonomics. I also like:
Spyderco Endura - very good stainless steel in a lightweight package, with plenty of handle real estate
Byrd Cara Cara 2 - Spyderco's value brand (basically a cheap Endura with 8Cr13MoV steel instead of the excellent blade steel VG-10)
Spyderco Resilience - big and comfy (G-10 scales with 8Cr13Mov steel), and my daily carry at work
Spyderco Manix 2 - light and medium sized (they also make an XL version), with BD-1 (kinda similar to AUS-8, kinda)
Cold Steel Recon 1 Spear Point - a big knife with lots of grippy G-10 handle space. The CTS XHP steel is the bee's knees, and the Recon 1 is an excellent value, but it may be too expensive as a starting point.
Also, I'm sure some other folks will chime in, too. The guys & gals of /r/knifeclub are pretty knowledgeable and helpful.
Again, my number 1 suggestion is the RAT 1 in D2. It'll be hard to beat interms of construction, ergonomics, and utility.
Happy hunting!
I'm fully clothed wearing a coat. Homeless challenge.
Backpack - $12.95
headlamp - $10.17
sleeping bag - $24.00
travel toothbrush + paste set - $4.90
Dr Bronner Soap - $4.99
baby wipes - $3.95
Good pocket knife - $12.99 metal spork - $2.16 pot - $8.96 stove + fuel - $10.99 $96.06 add on a bottle of water and bic lighter from a store and that's it.

Came in around 92 dollars.
Dude. This right here is my EDC. Very comfortable and well made knife. It's also got a "speedsafe" assisted opening. Very smooth action.
If you don't find anything from anyone else, I might be willing to order it on amazon for you!
Top to bottom, left to right
Here are my personal essentials.
Also, you're going to want a sharpening system that works for you in the long run. I personally use the Spyderco Sharpmaker But there are tons of good sharpening options out there.
P.S: You're going to get a lot of people hating on your Gerbers most likely, that's because they're honestly not worth it in the long run. They use very low quality steel for the price and they don't have the best quality control. I'm not saying your Gerbers are trash or anything. But they definitely won't last very long. Just about all of the knives I listed will last you a lifetime if you treat them right, and oil/sharpen them correctly.
There are so many knives and pocket tools, and what you like depends on how you're going to use it and what your general aesthetic is.
Trimming nails? Opening envelopes? Tightening screws? Cutting wire? Peeling oranges? Fending off wolverines?
Wood? Steel? Plastic?
Tell us what you want to use it for, and what material you prefer.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Great combination of tools, including good phillips:

Great wire clippers/strippers; good other tools:

Classic three blade wood:

Classic metal:

Great small tool with a clip and good scissors:

I'm a fan of the Executive, which is very slim and has about a 2" main blade. It comes in black, too. If you want a bit more knife and don't mind losing the toothpick/tweezers and scissors, the Cadet is popular for good reason. Among the keychain size knives, my favorite is the Rambler, for packing all the most important (to me, anyway) tools into a very small package.
Without any preferences on weight or size, my immediate answer is the Zero Tolerance 0350.
For cutting boxes, you're getting into medium use, not light use. For assisted, you're going to want a Kershaw at that price range- they're the kings of the budget assisted knife.
Some recommendations: Kershaw Clash, the Kershaw Burst, the Kershaw Drone, or the Kershaw Volt II. The Clash is going to be the strongest out of those options.
If you're willing to sacrifice speed (and the assisted open) for price, the Kershaw Kurai is only $12. If you'll also sacrifice the one handed opening, the Cold Steel Kudu is legitimately one of the very best knives on the market for under $15, and will only run you $8.50.
Feel free to respond with questions, comments or concerns. I'll try to get to them as soon as possible.
Well, first, congratulations on becoming a LEO. I am not one myself, but I have had a few convos with them and I'm going to start by giving you a couple of things to consider. The first one is, this knife will be a tool, right? A tool is used for all sorts of tasks, some it wasn't intended for like prying, scraping, or breaching/otherwise opening something that wouldn't the best tool for the job. One LEO I spoke with mentioned having to use his knife to do some limited demolition to a couple of walls in a trailer to find drugs. Stabbing through sheet rock, hitting studs, and nails and shit like that. I might suggest having a small pry bar as, you know, your tool that rides with at least, maybe find a belt pouch or way to carry it on your person. Better to have and not need than need and not have on this. Another thing, you might consider starting off with a more affordable knife, a beater. There are several reasons - tools you have on the job can be damaged or lost, and with a cheap beater you won't cry when that happens, you may need to hand it over as evidence in an investigation (used in self defense, etc.) and handing over your favorite knife can be painful even if you do eventually have it returned to you, you will already know about how LEOs and lawyers are not your best friends and having a big ol' scary knife may raise an eyebrow or two even in your position, and FINALLY there's the fact that you may be required to loan your knife out or use it in such a way that would ruin it. Any time you loan a tool out, it's great to expect to be returned in the same condition, but it's not always the case. Additionally, you may find you need it for an emergency, like in a vehicle fire or such a thing, mostly I'm imagining fire-related emergencies. A lot of knives are made with plastic scales which will melt all to shit but is technically still able to be used. This is unlikely, I know, but you're more likely to be there than me, so it is what it is.
After all that, I do have some recommendations!
Kershaw Clash - currently listed at ~$22, it's a fair knife for the money. It's spring assisted opening, a little larger both in size as well as handling (bad for finer cutting manipulation) but would be a great knife to get started with and treat as a beater. Would also serve as entry level EDC and would get you a lot of quick handling experience for the type of knife you'd actually want to get!
Kershaw Blur is a really well known knife by the knife community, combining quite a few really nice points at once. Currently listed at ~$58 (this model), this is also a great knife for someone looking for an all arounder. The blade steel is a little better than the Clash and several other offers from the cheaper side of knives, the scales are really comfortable for medium to large hands, and it doesn't break the bank. In my personal opinion it's probably one of if not the best knife for the money.
Kizer Vanguard is a different blade shape than the previous two, a much more classic style with a drop point. Currently this is on sale for ~$44 and this knife has a variety of handle colors available, which I think is neat. Based on my EDC use, it seems to be quite nice!
CRKT M21-12G has a few variations available with a similar size offered there as well as plain edge versus serrations. Personally I find serrations difficult to sharpen so I avoid them on my knives, but your mileage may vary. This knife is currently ~$46 and is worth it. This is a thicc chunk of steel with a thiccer handle even though the steel liners are milled out. Having taken it apart and put it back together a few times, I find this knife very easy to clean and service.
Ontario Knife Company Rat-1 is no frills and a solid knife. This is currently selling for ~$22 and is worth every penny. There's a few different models with the price varying quite a bit but overall it's below $40. This knife is a large chunk of metal with the scales and thick plastic liners too. However, there are etsy shops that make more custom liners that might be less chunky. Will likely cost more than you paid for the knife, but eh, whatever. This will be harder to lose, I think, since it's so large.
I hope one or more of these suggestions is helpful!
It's a Gerber Zip tiny and shaped like a zipper pull. Probably meant he was able to sneak it through security.

GDC Zip Light
GDC Zip Driver
GDC Zip Hex
Not much help filling the pockets since these attach to the zipper pulls, but I picked these up recently and they seem like they'll be useful
Also, whatever Leatherman-type multi tool you settle on is up to you, but a Guppie might be a nice complement with the wrench piece
Discreet and light weight are also subjective. Do you carry a bag on you every day? or are you wearing cargo pants every day? or does all this have to get stuffed in the pockets of your jeans?
A lot of these things are completely personal choices and as such you might take a step back and evaluate what you have and consider what you find wrong with your current choices.
You might start with an Altoids tin FAK or Altoids tin survival kit
Knives...small, inexpensive, discreet, unassuming. A few come to mind
CRKT Squid
Keshaw Shuffle
Wallet. What's wrong with the one you have now? or do you just want a fancy new one? All my life my leather bi-fold wallets have served me well. Only had two in over 20 years.
Flashlights are good. You can go knock off or Streamlight.
Pens. People recommend Fisher Space Pens such as the one I linked. They're quality pens, durable, stylish and refillable. I personally carry grey Bic disposables because people steal them or I lose them.
Multi-tool...I suggest Leatherman. Again it's subjective based on the tools that you need. Take a look at the Leatherman website. They have a good tool selector based on size and number of tools you want/need. My Skeletool CX has always served me well.
A way to carry keys? What's wrong with how you carry them now? If you're stuffing them in your pocket traditional key rings are still fine. Carrying them of body? on a bag? Then some sort of carabiner works, like the Keybiner or some variation. Don't want something rattling around? The Key-bar is nice if you don't have giant keys.
I really like my Kershaw Cryo II - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I04OHQ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_hunAzbX6APCVF
Looks like it $35 right now but I have bought 3 of them and never paid over $25.
For the record, I feel the same that the Cryo is too slippery - which is why I'm super glad Kershaw released a G10 version of it last year.
I also agree that the Tenacious is just a bit too big for EDC - and they do make the Persistence, which is a shrunken version of the Tenacious, with a 2.75 inch blade vs the Tenacious' 3-3/8 inch blade. If you wanna go even smaller, the Ambitious has a 2.25" blade. All 3 knives share a similar design (though the Ambitious is small enough that the proportions might look a little weird to some).
A few other knives of note that are standouts in the sub-$50 price range:

I got this as a gift for a friend and he has constantly been singing its praises and saying how impressed he is with it.
I’m personally not a fan of the slick handle style, I need some grip but it’s very very well made.
Buy a Kershaw. They are cheap and it'll get you into the habit of putting it on your person every day. Once you get used to it, find a blade that fits your needs the best.
I'd recommend the Kershaw Shuffle 2. It's small ,light and has a decently thick blade. The bottle opener is garbage design, but I use the spade end for prying on stuff during work.
I'm finding it for just under [thirty bucks] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XD65VQF/ref=pd_aw_sbs_200_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3X7VHWH1DAK8WWJNB30T&dpPl=1&dpID=41kU%2BY9jAeL), is it the blackwash version maybe?

For a folder, either a Spyderco ParaMilitary 2, Benchmade Freek, or a ZT 0350 will all be top-quality knives that can take a helluva beating.
For a fixed blade, either an ESEE 6 or a Fallkniven A1 should handle everything you could ever do to it.
When it comes to pocket knives, what's everyone's EDC?
Mine is the Kershaw Clash
It keeps a great edge, has the awesome SpeedSafe assisted opening, and has a price that's hard to beat. This has been my EDC for the better part of the last 4 years. Great knife at a great price. Sure, there are better knives with better steel out there, but they come at a cost. Have you seen the price of a Benchmade lately!?
But IMHO, Kershaw strikes the perfect balance between functionality and price. Kershaw is like the Stirling of the knife world. :)
This is probably bigger than what you've got but might allow you some flexibility in your pen choice: https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Black-Glassbreaker-Knife-SpeedSafe/dp/B0074FIPEM

I discovered the EDC community this year after spending years rotating through different EDC items, my wife called them "mini obsessions". So this year, when family started asking what I want for Christmas, I started referring to the ever-growing list of items I've got going because of you guys. This is what I roll with now, hopefully I got some cool additions after the holidays (I know for a fact that my pops and I are trading a high end Zippo for a Leatherman Crunch, so at least I got that going for me, which is nice...).
Thanks for reading!
Ok, you're welcome, well I don't know how flexible you are on the outside appearance of the knife, but you can still get a great folder.
For a super useful performance knife, I really like the Spyderco Pingo
For a cheap knock about knife that is also very useful but you won't be too worried if you break it, lose it, or get it taken by police...I like the Opinel #7
For overall utility, I like a classic Swiss Army Knife.
Then you have a bunch of varied designs that might work for you. The Higo No Kami, the Kabar Dozier, the Spy-DK, the American Classic Case Sodbuster (I recommend the Jr. size).
And you can easily add a clip to any of these.

This is the Sanrenmu 710, and holy crap is it an incredible little knife for the price. I'm seriously considering buying two or three more and having various pimp jobs done to them.
The only gripe I have (which is kinda silly considering the pricetag) is that the handle is too slick and becomes "sweaty" feeling in the hand relatively quickly.
Seriously though, wow, buy one and skip a dinner if you have to.
Of the knives you’ve posted, Urban Trapper.
A couple people have recommended Spyderco Delica and Dragonfly. I realize if you’ve never had a Spyderco, the design with the hole can be really off putting. At first I hated how they looked.
Once you handle a Spyderco, it all makes sense. I will recommend the Native 5, it’s still got the amazing ergonomics of a Spyderco, but it’s a little easier on the eyes in my opinion.
Some other knives you might wanna look at:

If he had been carrying a Swiss Army knife that's probably the style he prefers, Opinel makes single bladed knives that open in the same way his old SAK did, and leatherman makes amazing multitools, I would recommend checking all these brands out.
Opinel knives are usually extremely cheap and run about 20$/£, their most popular knife is the No. 8 for about 12$/£, it comes in other colors and wood types as well. No. 8 is a bigger model and it might be a little bulky for someone use to a SAK, the small the number in the name ex. No. 7, No.6, get smaller as their number designation does. I have the No. 8 Trekking knife in slate and its a pretty great knife for its price (18$/£).
If he likes Swill Army Knives, there are quite a few more options to look at, they can get a little pricey for their size at times, I own the Tinker, this was my first knife and I have found that looking at the tools on these knives would behoove you. I do not need an awl in the knife I carry every day for instance. There are many many options to chose from, and through a little sifting you may find one that you feel suits him best. Victorinox (the brand that makes swiss army knives) also makes knives that are a little closer to the opinels I mentioned earlier, a few of their models (like this one) are simply one or two blades. I would look into local laws however, I know some places do not allow blades that can be opened with one hand like the one I linked you to.
Leatherman makes wonderful multitools and a few pocket knives. Nearly everything they make have blades that lock as a safety feature, although very few can be flicked open, so I would check the specifics of this law, I doubt a multi-tool is illegal. This is the Micra, it appears to be a smaller version of a leatherman I own that I cannot find on their site. This one has a blade that opens in a way that is legal for sure, its blade does not lock either. If you find that some locking blades are allowed, the Skeletool is a favorite of mine, it may look a little outlandish but it has always had the best combination of essential tools out of any of my multi-tools, and it is one of my favorites. The Style is a smaller version with slightly different tools ( I don't think it has screwdrivers), but it's blade does not lock. The skeletool is about 70$/£ I think, and their smaller tools like the micra and style are under 30$/£, this brand has quite a bit more I didn't touch on, if you think he would like something like this I would check out site, I hope you find something that works, I know I'm always thrilled when my girlfriend gets me a new knife.

The Rambler is my fav. small SAK. It's just like the Rally I linked above, except it also has scissors.
https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Rambler-Pocket-Knife/dp/B000FNFXQS/ref=sr_1_1
I love my Victorinox Rambler. The important features to me are a basic knife, phillips head driver and toothpick. The bottle opener, flat head driver, scissors and tweezers are just a bonus. My day consists of opening boxes (knife), adjusting screws (phillips driver) and working with clients (toothpick). I usually carry other items to assist with these tasks but I always carry my keys so I will always be able to perform them, even if I forget those other tools. It's really small as well.
Edit - Just seen your edit, and I should definitely pay more attention to the body of posts. Enjoy the 580! I'm going to keep this up incase other people might find it useful.
If you're grooming nails or beard I'd say the Micra given its focus on scissors as a primary tool however, due to the extra width from the additional tools, it's a little bulky. Something like the Victorinox Classic SD may be much more manageable size-wise, and it has the benefit of carrying both tweezers and the toothpick, however the scissors may be a little small for beard trimming.
In a similar vein to the Micra, the Squirt PS4 is a little bulky, but has a very usable nail (wood/metal) file, as well as a cracking little knife; unfortunately the scissors tend to have a 'wobble' between the blades, meaning that unless you're paying attention to what you're cutting, you can have a gap between the scissor blades as you're closing the scissors, giving a poor, unclean cut (and giving you a rough nail if you're in the process of clipping). The Classic SD doesn't suffer from this given the scissor blades close flushly.
Looking at the comments, the Victorinox 580 looks like a winner, however (this is pure IIRC) the scissor spring in this may be more susceptible to breaking under heavy torque, over the type in the Victorinox Executive, which also has a couple of other tools. Although the Executive annoyingly has the knife opening toward the keys (however the scissors open away from it, so for your purposes this might not be an issue). A potential solution to this would be to go with the Victorinox Rambler, which has all the benefits of the Classic SD, is a tiny tiny tiny tiny bit thicker, and it comes with the combo tool which includes a magnetised (head) Phillips screwdriver, bottle opener, and wire cutter. That last tool has absolutely nothing to do with beard/nail trimming, but it may be useful in initially lining up screws which you can then drive in with the Skeletool.
I'm in a very similar boat to you and I've just decided to give up on my PS4 because the scissors just piss me off when I'm trying to use them with my left hand. I have a Classic SD which I took out of rotation due to wanting something a little sturdier, but ironically (given the play in the PS4 scissors), I feel like the scissors on that might be better. Because I love Leatherman and primarily find myself using the scissors more than any other tool, I'm giving the Micra a shot, but for tweezers I've just bought an Uncle Bill's seen as I end up dealing with splinters more than anything else..
Chances are it's going to come full circle and I'll end up back at the Classic SD I already own, but half the fun of multitools/EDC is experimenting with what works, and I know I'll have a couple of kickarse tools waiting in the wing if I want to mix it up again. That said, the Rambler does look pretty tempting!
Just picked one up off amazon a couple weeks ago for about 20 bucks.
Edit: https://www.amazon.com/Columbia-River-Knife-Tool-M16-10KZ/dp/B0017UV9W0/ref=pd_nav_hcs_bia_t_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=A9KFQCJ9TKKWBH4W829R
Where he's from, /u/Yup1Yup1Yup is afraid of a knife with a locking blade. Something like this, that I carry every day jut for whatever stupid reason may pop up. It's a 3" blade, and the lock is a safety feature so it doesn't close on my hand and hurt me. The locking feature is what makes it illegal there. That's how much they trust their people, but this person wants to talk about trusting youth to make the right decisions. Fucking hilarity.
Their only defense for being so terrified of it is "BUT WHY DO YOU NEED THAT?"
Mine? CRKT knife I had this exact knife for about 4 years until i think someone stole it.. the thing was so hard that all the knife sharpening places told me they were sorry but it couldn't be sharpened by them.. so we got a nice stone kit and did it ourselves.. best knife I've ever carried.. man creature has the much much larger version...
I’m currently carrying a Zero Tolerance 0350 (but am thinking about a smaller ZT or their budget brand, Kershaw) and it’s truly a jack of all trades. The blade is long, chunky, and more than ample for SD scenarios, EDC tasks, and backwoods hard use like batoning wood. It’s S30V, which is a nice, durable tool steel that can get extremely sharp and then blunts to a solid working edge between sharpenings. The curved edge incorporates the theory of a parang basically, with most of the hard work coming from the first large curve, keeping the tip and the rear curve sharp for detailed tasks. Furthermore, it’s the smoothest and fastest spring assist I’ve encountered. I like it better than autos. With how robust a good modern flipper is, I don’t see a need for a fixed blade in most situations, so I’d save the weight and bulk of a sheath.
THAT BEING SAID I have informal knife training from a special forces vet, I still don’t think it’s nearly enough for me to consider it a viable option. I absolutely never would use my knife in a SD scenario unless I was out of options, including picking up available environmental objects with more range like a 2”x4” if time allows. I do admit though, I like the ability to pull out and conceal a small weapon covered by my sleeve or the like at a tight space like an ATM, so I have something at the ready that isn’t a gun and doesn’t need the space pepper spray does. This is mostly to create space and get the assailant to back off so the situation can be assessed (if a gun, for example, is still needed because the treat isn’t neutralized) not necessarily disabling the assailant. Another pro to pocket folder carry. Remember, a knife is a deadly weapon and if you brandish it to another person you better have legal grounds for self defense.
E: elaboration on assessing situation
I've got one too! I think it is a little too big for pocket carry but it is easily concealable. Mine goes better with the ZT.
He kept trying to convince me that he'd given up and would cooperate. I knew he was lying obviously. I mostly Christian Baled variations of "no" and hyperbolic threats against his person.

Skyline's a good knife i just don't like the lines on it as much as something like the clash

PM2 S30V plain edge satin finish
Hello fellow VI runner,
For what my opinion matters, I pretty much always carry a knife of some kind when I’m trail running. Partially for the occasional bit of trail/woodwork that needs doing but also for the protective factor from cougars, and because I am a knife knerd too. Most of the folks I run with also carry a blade albeit almost all folding. I can’t comment much on their exact preferences.
In winter I tend towards fixed blade, either a Mora bushcraft (cheapish ) or a compact machete depending if I know trees and branches are down from storms and the like.
In the summer months, I tend towards larger folding knives like a Spyderco PM2 or GB2. I use folders in the summer because it’s brighter and many more folks in the woods so the general risk is down and I don’t want to look like a sociopath running around with a sheathed knife when I bump into hikers and mountain bikers.
I appreciate the comment about the realism about taking on a cougar should it come to that. I hope we all stay safe out there while enjoying the trails.

If you get this one from Amazon it's $75 with free shipping.
It's a bit more expensive than the standard ~$50 EDC knife, but I think for this price it's still a deal. They could be a LOT more expensive with how well they are made/their good steel.
If you save up I think it'd be worth it :) (just my opinion, I love mine. But I don't want you to be disappointed if you save.)
If you're looking for more of a beater, have you seen the Kershaw Black Blur Glassbreaker Knife with SpeedSafe?
I don't have experience with it, but I've used other Kershaw blades. They're no Benchmades, but they do the trick. I've heard great things about the s30v version of the knife (no serrations or glass breaker).
Edit: fixed what autocorrect messed up.
There's a Kershaw Blur with a glassbreaker. There isn't a dedicated seat belt cutter, but the blade is partially serrated and sharp as hell!

In theory, if you switched the blades, you'd have a Tanto Blur w/ glass breaker AND a standard blur. You could try to sell off the standard blur and get some of your money back on it....or use it as a gift! :P
The CRKT mentioned is a decent one, too. That one uses AUS-8 if I remember right. The Blur would be Sandvic 14C28N.
Kershaw Blur - sadly, it's got the combo edge, though I thought you could get it in a tanto style.
If it's like this, then I could understand. :)
This is the best sub-$20 knife i've ever owned. Can't recommend it enough. Kershaw Shuffle )

Take my shoe off to open a beer? No thanks, I just carry one of these with me at all times. Has the advantage of being a knife and flathead screwdriver too!
My favorite knife right now is very functional, but not that neat looking.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AU6NHVI/
As a carry knife it is great. Small, holds a great edge, and feels very solid.
My other favorite knife has limited functionality, but it is pretty neat.

It has a ceramic blade. I only use it on shipping boxes and stuff like that since it is easy to chip the blade on harder materials. The thing is stupid sharp.
I've lurked here for a while and thought I should make my first post.
I'm also looking for a better wallet similar to mine. I've checked out the Hitch and Timber Card Caddy, but can't justify the price. Any recommendations?
Any other feedback is also welcome :)
Small multi-tools (Pick one and goes in wallet front pocket)
Flashlight (Goes in wallet's front pocket)
Pens (Pick one)

Watch
Earbuds
Phone (Had to Badly Photoshop it into the pic)

Knives (Just my favorites. I usually just carry whatever knife I'm feeling that day)
Edit: not sure why photo uploaded with potato quality
Just to add a few more that fall well under budget and are still awesome.
My vote.

All of these knives I'm linking to the amazon price which is much cheaper. The MSRP's are either in the 50-65 range, or the Amazon price is in the 50-65 range and the MSRP is much higher.

CRKT Swindle

how about a gentlemans folder, like a crkt swindle or other simalar knives
its a bit more expensive than you were planning on, but they make nice carry knives that most people wont be scared of.
I can't find one with that blade pattern, but I was instantly reminded of this. If you like that sort of rat-tang friction folder, there's also something like this.
I carry one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EU8ML46/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That little flipper thing is the thing I use my knife for the most. My office is in an eight-story building, but our floor is like 40% my company, and the rest is other smaller offices/startups. Everyone is connected by the same hallway, shaped like the number 8 (but squared, not round). Anyways.
There are four mens rooms on the floor, each consisting of two sinks, two urinals and two stalls. Personally, I don't like to poop when there's someone in the stall right next to me. On a road trip at a rest stop? Fine, whatever. Not at work. I want to be able to take my time, look at my phone, etc. I don't want to hear the gentle sounds of someone grunting out a loaf next to me during my poop time.
The doors to the stalls lock from the inside, but they have a flush flathead-type thing on the outside of the door, I assume to open the door up if someone ODs or something in there.
I discovered that if I locked the inner stall door from the outside (with the flipper of the knife), then went into the other stall and pooped, people would walk in, assume both stalls were in use (since they could see my feet in the outer stall, and the door to the inner stall was shut/locked), and leave.
I now poop alone, and it's glorious.
I switch what I carry between a RAT2 and a Sanrenmu
The Sanrenmu blade has been holding an edge better than the RAT.
http://www.amazon.com/Sanrenmu-7010LUC-SA-Pocket-Folding-Knife/dp/B00GMMPIK2
In that price range you might as well go Chinese, you can get these from china direct for 5 bucks off for each model, about.
Sanrenmu 7010, very nice for the price. Framelock very pleasing to the eye
https://www.amazon.com/Sanrenmu-7010LUC-SA-Pocket-Folding-Knife/dp/B00GMMPIK2
I own a few ganzos as well and am very pleased with them, they even make a copy of the Ontario Rat but with a much nicer lock.
Ganzo 727 (copy of rat profile)
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dsporting&field-keywords=ganzo+727

If you don't mind a long wait you could order from china direct. I've had very good results with a site called gearbest but I see others referenced all the time

May I recommend the first knife that I bought?
The Cryo II
Holy crap does this thing rock! Its a tank of a knife and it gets the job done. Great low ride pocket clip and smooth as silk opening. Buddy of mine liked mine so much, he bought one as well!
So, what we teach in our self defense courses as far as weapons go, is to use whatever you have like an ice pick, with a thumb over one end. You basically strike down at whatever you can (usually a hand or arm) and re-load. It's fast and noncommittal. It's strange setting it written, but you probably get the idea.
It's long, so it sticks out the end of your hand so there's something to concentrate the force you generate with your strike. It's thin because something thicker won't ride in your pocket as easy.
Plus... It's cheap. We try to advocate stuff that works, but isn't so expensive that you don't get one.
This knife from Kershaw is just about perfect, really no matter the cost. It just happens to be cheap.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I0RSVQK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xfQxDbS12HD9W
It's built like a tank, and about as expensive as other knives' sheaths. LoL
Hope this stuff helps and makes sense.

Northwest Territorial Mint makes Scouting Coins - I'm not personally into them, but many people are. They make a simple venturing coin and also one with the venturing oath engraved.
A walking staff with a venturing medallion (see above) might be a cool gift.
A [really nice compass](http://store.silvacompass.com/ranger-75-sighting-compass (you know, "to guide your way" etc, etc.) could be meaningful.
You could get him a cool knife (I recently purchased this one ) and have it engraved in some meaningful way. I'm personally more into the Spyderco line of knives, but the Kershaw is more cost-effective.
Also know that a gift is not expected - if you're invited to the Court of Honor, the only thing requested is your presence.
Edit: added a knife note

What do you use the Skeletool most for?
If you use the knife on it constantly and daily, then yeah, get a good knife. If the stuff that you do cut makes you nervous with the Skeletool then definitely get a dedicated knife.
If you use the bit driver or pliers on the Skeletool the most then you probably don't need to carry a dedicated knife.
Give the Sage 5 a good look as well if you are considering the Para3. I'd also strongly recommend finding a Spyderco/Benchmade/Zero Tolerance dealer and fondling a bunch of knives before making a decision on which knife to buy.
If you have never carried a dedicated knife before it would be a good idea to buy a cheaper knife or two before spending $100+ on a knife.
Could try something like the Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara 2:

Try some under $30 knives, pick one that looks like something you would like to carry, and pick something that is dang near the polar opposite. It will let you know what you like in a knife much cheaper. Differences in blade size, blade shape, handle shape and how they are used might change your opinion on what you think you need in a knife after using a dedicated knife for awhile. After that you can make a truly informed decision on a high-end knife.
CRKT Squid. Nice and small, and looks sleek and professional.

Here's a few I've seen

https://huckberry.com/store/huckberry/category/p/16217-edc-kit-2-0
Or, you can just buy all the things you would want on Amazon, it'll come in 1 or 2 boxes. Here's a few choices to put together a "kit"
This or this for flashlight.
This This, or, This For a multitool depending on the size you want.
This or This for knife (Note: I am not a knife person, I have a Squid and I like it and I've heard good things about the Kershaw Chill)
Exotac FreeKey System
Keep it light, keep it simple.

This small knife does the job without taking up much bulk in your pocket or EDC. And if you misplace it, it won't cost an arm and a leg to replace.
This light is fairly bright and is easy to use. Twist on/off. No fancy modes with this light. Waterproof and shock resistant in a compact package that runs on just a AAA battery. Also easy to replace if it mysteriously disappears.
This pen doesn't need much of a story. It's cheap. It writes smooth. It conquers.
This is a nice little watch for the price. It's tough and tells the time even in harsh conditions. If you somehow manage to break it or the battery dies, it's not going to break the bank to replace.

Don't carry much in the wallet department so a rubber band or binder clip would do the job. That'd be less than $0.10. Do the math!
So that's a grand total of $50. Excluding a phone or CCW since OP stated that isn't affected.
Not bad for a few quality items that will get you through a day to day basis easily.
Sorry if I missed anything!
Edit: Added a watch to the mix. Added descriptions for all items. Formatting!
Here are some good options within your requirements.

$15: [Kershaw Shuffle II] (https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-8750TBLKBW-Shuffle-Folding-BlackWash/dp/B00TUCPWZM)
$40: [Kershaw Leek] (https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Leek-Knife/dp/B00P2LAQ4W)
$65: [Spyderco Delica] (https://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Delica4-Lightweight-Ground-PlainEdge/dp/B0052HQPWS)
The knives I linked are all folding locking knives. The shuffle would be harder to sharpen because of the tanto style blade.
For sharpening, most people either get the [Spyderco Sharpmaker] (https://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Tri-Angle-Sharpmaker/dp/B004HIZKHE) or the [Lansky Diamond Stone System] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000B8L6LS/ref=sxts2?ie=UTF8&qid=1483915806&sr=2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65). If you get the Lansky system, get the pedestal to go with it else your hands will be cramping.
Honestly I suggest getting a knife under $100. Once you get over $100 you start getting into supersteels. Supersteels are hard to sharpen for beginners and if you don't know what you're doing, you're likely to ruin the edge.
You don't need a serrated edge. Most folks here would recommend against it even if you did want to cut rope.
For cleaning and caring, I just put a drop of gun oil on the blade and mechanism. You don't really need to do this though. Unless you see rust or your knife is having trouble opening, you could skip it.
That's really awesome. I only ask because it's an affordable knife and usually that adjective doesn't end up in the same sentence as Damascus.
Maybe I missed the market though and it's more common, but in any case great knife, I might pick that one up.
Only concern I have is it keeping am edge. I've only ever had one kershaw knife (Kershaw Shuffle II (8750BLKBW); Blackwash Multifunction Folding Pocket Knife, 2.6 In. 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel Tanto Blade, Includes Thumbstud and Reversible Pocketclip; 3 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TUCPWZM?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf), and it didn't show with nor hold a edge very well. However, it's an entirely different price point, and metal for that matter, so I'm wondering if that makes a difference.
The blade is very thick and the handle feels a bit cheap, but it cuts up cardboard boxes and opens bottles, which is all I need it to do. You can get one for $16.99 with Amazon Prime.
The one I bought is this CRKT 5311 Pilar Folding Blade Knives https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3CG3KJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Kershaw Shuffle 2
Comes in a few colors. Includes bottle opener.
CRKT Pilar: https://www.amazon.com/Columbia-River-Knife-Tool-5311/dp/B01N3CG3KJ
Does it have to be spring assisted? Most spring assists are there to make up for bad manufacturing/cheap parts and are more likely to fail in many cases, and beyond that I personally can't come up with a multitool that does that.
I can think of several knives that have various tools built in or multi tools built to be operated with one hand though:

I forgot Ruike, the RKEP801SF is on my list. I discovered the flashlight company that makes Fenix is producing the brand.
I had a similar problem with picking a knife that wasn't huge and bulky in the pocket. I randomly came across the Kershaw Shuffle a few months back and love it. The knife is small enough where you can barely feel it clipped to your pocket and it still looks nice enough where people have given me compliments on it. I own the first generation shuffle but the shuffle 2 has a better look imo. Super cheap for a quality knife. I got a CRKT Pilar a while back for work utility. It's 4" folded and the Wharncliffe blade is 2.4". They came out with a larger version as well (Pilar II) but since I'm using an unauthorized cutting instrument at work, smaller profile is helpful.
The small version is $30

I like the CRKT Pilar. It's a little heavier but open so nice after the break. It's under $22 right now at Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/CRKT-Pilar-Folding-Pocket-Knife/dp/B01N3CG3KJ
That price range is tough but probably the Ontario rat 2 or maybe the CRKT Pilar
Seconding the flashlight and multi tool.
I carry my flashlight with a pocket clip just so it can be attached to the brim of my ballcap if I need light and both hands. Much easier than fumbling with my phone.
Also, if I’m in a situation (ie: truck broke down, power’s out, etc) I don’t want to waste precious phone battery for a flashlight, which uses a ton of juice. Gotta save those sweet amps for mobile gaming, or emergency comms.
I just picked up a Thrunite Ti3, very happy with it. It’s very small, study, great output, multiple settings, and the clip is amazingly (surprisingly) strong.
ThruNite Ti3 EDC Cree XP-G2 R5 AAA Torch Max120 Lumens LED Flashlight, Mini, Cool White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LUO028U?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Also, a good multi tool is a must for me.
I have several, a Gerber and a Leatherman, as well as a half dozen cheap no name models, but I carry the Victorinox SAK Tinker daily. Fits well in the coin pocket of my jeans. It does have a blade on it though, so be wary of that. If you don’t go with the Tinker, another Victorinox would still be great.
My Leatherman has been with my for well over a decade, and is my daily work carry, but I’m a firm believer that they don’t make them like they used to (mine is a 2002 model).
The Gerber is a forever backup. It was a gift, and my least favorite. Feels cheap in my hands when I use it, but I know it would get the job done if necessary. It stays in my range bag normally.
As for the Tinker, here’s a link;
Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker Pocket Knife, Red,91mm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004YVB4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_jGmKAb8QN9QH9
Good luck and happy hunting.
How about a Victorinox Tinker or Hiker? The Tinker has a phillips instead of corkscrew, and the Hiker is a Tinker with a saw.
My first pocket knife was one of these back in cub scouts, the sides fell off in a week. It's a rip off version of the Victorinox (Swiss Army) Tinker($20 at Amazon):
http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Tinker-Pocket-Knife/dp/B00004YVB4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1407326681&sr=8-7&keywords=swiss+army+knife
Best money can buy.
https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Tinker-Pocket-Knife/dp/B00004YVB4/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1472865361&sr=8-8&keywords=swiss+army+knife
Ah! This one https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Tinker-Pocket-Knife/dp/B00004YVB4/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1J7QS2NQDUN7A&keywords=swiss+army+knife&qid=1569019230&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=swiss+arm%2Csporting%2C133&sr=1-9
I generally have either a SAK classic or a leatherman squirt on my keychain, both are tiny, useful and in no way can be mistaken for a weapon and they suit my everyday cutting needs. The other SAK I might take if I need it is a SAK tinker, I like SAK's as they don't look threatening when you use them and they are good pocketknives.
You just have to be smart about what you're carrying and if you don't have a legitimate reason to carry one then don't.
I have this: https://amzn.com/B00004YVB4/ i carry practically everywhere
That would be nice for some, but I just don't see it happening. If you're into SOG, Kershaw, Benchmade, Spyderco, or any of the high end knives you know what the difference is between the Kershaw Zero Tolerance Combat Folding Serrated Knife for $180 made with S30V stainless that will hold a 23 degree bevel all day long, and the Kershaw Kershaw Ken Onion Tactical Blur Folding Knife for $52 made from 13C26 stainless. The second one isn't a bad knife, but it won't come close to as sharp, or holding it's edge as long.
I think $50 SR's might turn guys off to the practice. They just wouldn't be as sharp, or hold their edge as long. That said, with the way Chinese and Indian steel has come up in quality in the last 10 years, if those boys get serious about making high quality razors, all bets are off because they might be able to make a high end product in the $50 price range.
Kershaw Tanto Serrated Blur Knife with SpeedSafe (Tactical Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009VCA1M/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_Z8Izub13291Y3
This is the knife I carry. Partially serrated, assisted open, long, strong clip, tough aluminum body with Trac-Tec grip. Sharp, easy to open and close, great grip and the handle is tough enough to withstand using it as a tool in it's own way.
You're right. I remembered that it came in tanto and serrated, but I guess not both at once. The Blur does, but at a bigger price tag. Post when you get your stuff!
The Kershaw Blur is the best every day carry knife that I've used. It is the only knife I have ever bought again when I lost the previous one (and I've done this 3 times).
Some employers do not allow their employees to carry pocket knives, just so you know.
What about a Kershaw Tanto Blur?
Kershawguy.com has blemished ones for 35 bucks. I bought mine from him and the only thing wrong with it was the finish was slightly off on the spine of the blade. Otherwise completely functional and sharp as heck. (though by purchasing a blem knife it has no warranty)
What you think about the Kershaw Blur tactical over the Spyderco Tenacious?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0009VCA1M/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/187-9554535-0085520
Are folders out of the question? Kershaw's Tanto Blur would be a decent option if not. A friend of mine loves his. I must ask though, why tanto?
*Edit: Here is a link to view the product on amazon/read reviews. Just a time saver. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0009VCA1M
Victorinox Rambler is a mini Swiss Army knife with knife, scissors, bottle opener, file with screwdriver tip, tweezers and toothpick for $22 on Amazon. The joke is how very useful it is while remaining tiny.
I use the Victorinox Rambler as my keychain, it has a kinda measly bottle opener but it works and also has screwdrivers, scissors, and a tiny blade useful for opening boxes and letters.
Don't waste your money. Leatherman is low quality compared to Victorinox. I have a Micra and the scissors are not that good and dull quickly. If you want a smaller SAK check out the 58mm Rambler, which is simple and useful. If you want larger scissors then take a look at the Compact.
On a similar note: The Victorinox Rambler, or it's sisters the Manager or Midnite Manager (weird names, I know), are tools that I never leave the house without. They're tiny, don't take up more space than two keys on a keyring, and they have a super-sharp all-purpose blade, scissors, screwdriver, magnetic philipps-screwdriver, bottle-opener, wire stripper, nailfile and a couple other things, depending on the version you get. Incredibly useful for all sorts of shit, including tightening screws to base plates. And they're pretty affordable, too. Plus, they come with lifetime warranties. They will even sharpen and refurbish them for nothing but packing & handling.
Utility key sucks. Only decent tool on is the micro phillips.
Some examples of keychain Multitools.

Ask me if you have any questions.
Have you considered ping even less bulky? Something like the SAK Rambler which is basically the SAK Classic + bottle opener/Phillips screwdriver. I've been eyeballing that one because I find even at only 2 oz, my leatherman squirt is heavier than I like for something in my pocket. The Rambler is less than an oz.
I like to keep my EDC minimal... I don't like carrying a lot of things or having a lot of weight in my pocket, so I have tried to cut back to the bare essentials.
I carry a Columbia River Knife and Tool M16-10KZ 3-Inch Black Folding Knife This is a solid knife, and one of the better, and most durable pocket knives that I've owned. For instance, I was able to punch through the steel in a cheap table-top grill with it, and it didn't really hurt it.
It's definitely a cultural thing, much like living with guns. If you grew up carrying one, then having one around (or on you) is just sort of natural. I also grew up in the south, and I've started to realize recently that Im a total redneck (whether I like it or not).
Sorry for photo quality. First post ever on this so be gentle. Starting from top row, left to right:
Hopefully that all worked! If not, I apologize.
CRKT M16 10 I love this knife. I've had it for a few years now and It's one of my favorites. I like tanto points but you can get this model with a bunch of blade variants.
Here, this is exactly what you need.
This guy right here.
Without question the best knife $25 can get you. The knife in OP's hand is a Gerber ripoff of a CRKT M16-10KZ. And when I say ripoff, I mean BLATANT ripoff.
I used a CRKT M16-10KZ for a very long time, then I decided I'd upgrade to that Ontario Rat II, and it's amazing how much you get for such a slight price increase.
Seriously, if you want an inexpensive knife, get the Ontario Rat II.
NOTE: I absolutely love my flashlight, and it's plenty bright. Just be careful which seller you choose. I went to buy a second one (a just in case whim) for a lot cheaper from some random chinese seller, and I got a defective one.
How much are you willing to spend on your knife? I'll list some personal suggestions:
-Zero Tolerance 0350- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QFJLEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_KtvazbAND0VBR

OP have you looked into Zero Tolerance knives at all? One of their smaller blades may fit your needs. I have the 0200. It's 154CM, but may be too big for you (it's super chunky). the 350 has thinner G10 scales and a shorter blade, but its S30V. Not sure if thats a dealbreaker or not. Excellent knife tho.
Spyderco Manix 2 would fit your size/G10 requirements, but, again...S30V (sorry).
What else....Ontario Rat 2 is a fun little blade for 27 bucks.
Benchmade Mini-Onslaught
Spyderco Caly 3
Fallkniven U2 is something a little different from that company.
Or you could just nut up and get a Sebenza :P
If you're rough enough on your tools that you break the serrations off a Kershaw knife in a year and a half I would recommend avoiding a multi-tool. What will you do after you bend the knife on your multi-tool? You have to replace everything just to replace the knife. Plus, multi-tools are most likely going to be made of lower quality steel than the Kershaw you just destroyed, so it likely won't last very long. This will also be heavily dependent on your use case, which I'm obviously ignorant of. In my Jeep I keep a Leatherman with a bit set, and carry a quality knife as my EDC. I have no idea which model it is, but it's got needle nose pliers and a bit driver. A bunch of them are pretty much the same with regard to my use case.
That said, if I were in your position I'd try to take one of the two following approaches:
All that being said, I enjoy carrying my ZT. I've beat the crap out of it over the last 3.5 years and it has never let me down. That knife is very expensive though and you should be able to find good quality knives made of the same S30V or tougher steel for a lower price if that scares you off. Here's a nice chart of various knife materials and their properties regarding hardness, edge retention, ease of sharpening, etc.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I really like that Spyderco, but I have been leaning towards a ZT350 (or a Bechmade Adamas) and was wondering about the tiger stripe blade, so thanks for letting me know. I was worried I would get it thinking it would be unique and maybe look cool and end up hating it and thinking it was over the top and gaudy. This should help me narrow it down some. If you got a 350, would you get a black finished blade, or silver?
For $20 I can get my so far favorite knife, the Kershaw Clash. Won't the handle rust quickly on the paraframe, since it's stainless steel?
Knives are cheap by comparison just buy new ones as you need them. I always suggest a nice lock blade http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1605-Clash-Folding-SpeedSafe/dp/B003LNR5YM/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1409486936&sr=8-8&keywords=kershaw
For $5 cheaper you can get a Kershaw Clash. A really nice assisted opening blade from a much more reputable company.
this is my go to for my every day carry....

love it, and I have taken it in to the wilds with very good results so far, I feel like it's my "folder for life" at this point. It doesn't hold an edge horribly long, but is very easy to sharpen, both at home and in the field.....I can't see dropping that much on my folder when in all reality my fixed blade collection (similar to yours OP) is going to do the bulk of the work in the field.
The Kershaw Clash. Got mine a few weeks ago and I love it ( plus it's under $40). http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1605-Clash/dp/B003LNR5YM
Warriors and wonders has PM2's in stock
Amazon.ca has a few as well : Camo/Satin, Black/Satin, Black/Black
Here is the item page. "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com". I actually received one that I believe to be genuine, but it had a slightly warped tip. I requested an exchange, and the replacement I got was the fake.
It's unlike anything I've seen in the fake vs real comparisons. The most obvious difference is the texture of the G10 - much coarser on the fake. Smaller details include the size and thickness of the plastic bag the knife comes wrapped in, minute differences in the blade etchings and pocket clip.
The Spyderco ParaMilitary 2 is an excellent choice.
Amazon is where I got mine from. It'll Run you 124$. Definitely worth it though. Doesn't come with the lanyard in case you were wondering, I got that off of the CRKT Obake.
Heres a handy like for ya

You're welcome! I should mention that there are other variants of it, including this one with g-10 scales that are more grippy.
If you like the Police, you should also look at the Paramilitary 2. It is probably Spyderco's most famous knife.

[Manix 2 lightweight with BD1] (https://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Manix2-Translucent-PlainEdge-Knife/dp/B0051HLOV6?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0) but if your willing to pay just a little more I think the [CPM s110V] (https://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-C101PDBL2-Pocket-Folding-8-Inch/dp/B00K3AO6S4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1466916024&sr=8-4&keywords=spyderco+manix+2+lightweight) one is way worth it.
Yup. That's the one. There is also a Manix 2 lightweight you could look into. It's a lot lighter due to it having no steel liners. It's cheaper also!

Looks like a Manix 2 Lightweight.
This Kershaw Blur has both qualities. It is, unfortunately, double your price (on Amazon). A cursory search seems to turn it up that it is about that price from serveral popular merchants.
You need a Ken Onion Blur

I don't know if you're looking for a replacement for the knife, but if so, these might be worth considering:
It's not the best, but there's the Boker Magnum Compact Rescue. If you like the look of this little guy, but want something bigger, there is a full sized version as well.
A lot better, and more expensive, is the Kershaw Blur.
I keep this in my car at all times. It has a glass breaker nub

Gerber EDC Zip. Absolutely tiny, but pretty darn useful. Rarely do I need a larger knife. Hard AF to sharpen though, I have to take it apart. http://imgur.com/a/bwGIO
Spyderco Bug (12) Too small. Must be held like a full-size folder, which just doesn't work at this size.
Gerber EDC Zip (7-12) Love it. Thick enough to hold with a pinch grip, and small enough that I don't have to give any consideration to its weight. Sadly I have to take the blade out to sharpen it.

Maybe a shuffle?
Here are a couple options in the ballpark for ya. Some are over, but some are around the price you're looking at.
Kershaw Blur S30V varient $66.86 currently
Kershaw Blur 14C28N varient $57.54 currently
Ontario Rat Folder in a few finishes $25.32
Ontario Rat in finish two $30.45

Kershaw Cryo $20-30

SOG Flash II $42
Samrenmu 710 $12-14
Among many other things, but these are the ones that make it into my rotation most often.
The CRKT Swindle is a very slim flipper with a unique pocket clip. I really like it when I'm wearing a suit. It's also very affordable, which is fine with me since if I'm wearing a suit my knife is pretty much a letter opener that day.
If you give up the blade shape there are quite a few knives like that. The
Crkt Eros ss
, CRKT Swindle, Kershaw Amplitude
, and Kershaw Leek all have thin blades and full metal handles but all have slightly different blade shapes.
CRKT Swindle
I had this knife and always thought it was very elegant. Very smooth and sharp, but the clip sucks. It fell out of my pocket so much so that I eventually lost it.
http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-River-Knife-K240XXP-Swindle/dp/B00BBO7TXU
I don't know, half the amazon reviews call it a "gentleman's folder".
I guess because it's not wood handled and has a nice form factor
Yeah, the Emerson's are a bit stabby, ok a lot. The Injection is pretty nice looking and a bunch of the reviews I found were quite favorable. Another to consider is the CRKT Swindle, but it's a tad above your price range and people seem to either love it or hate it. If you want people friendly, I can't think of many things better than Opinels. Sometimes people see a G10/TI knife and go "He's gonna slit my throat!" But if it's an Opinel, or any wood/bone handled knife they go "aww furry wabbit or just like my grandad used to carry'
Don't know what's legal in your area or the kind of knife you'd like. I've included a nice looking one and a compact one, I'm sure others will advise as to more rugged knives.

Mine was fairly cheap, something like this. Though there are a couple people who make much nicer ones.
Some of these you can get on Amazon for nearly the same price: https://www.amazon.com/Higo-no-Kami/b/ref=w_bl_hsx_s_hi_web_7830667011?ie=UTF8&node=7830667011&field-lbr_brands_browse-bin=Higo+no+Kami
I can't read kanji but it looks to be the same. Steel type isn't listed on Amazon but according to the comments this one is SK and this one is Blue Steel (probably#2).
Just just got mine off Amazon. I have since found a eBay page that seems to sell legit ones and you can select the steel you want and the handle. I plan to buy another off that with blue steel because I'm fairly certain that the ones on Amazon are just sk steel but I cant be sure

So you can get the knife off of Amazon is it the same quality?

Kershaw has some good knives in the mid 20 dollar range like the cryo, but for under 20ish i have two suggestions:
1: Sanrenmu 7010LUC-SA 710 $12.95
2: CRKT Drifter Folding Knife
$20.60
Heres the full size clone.
Heres a small version.
Those SRM 710's use to be like $6-8. I've bought dozens of them and given them out to people. Really a great knife. Its still totally worth it at $15.
$12.95 actually. I put it on par fit and finish wise with most $50 knives.
It's probably hit or miss. Nothing weird, since I've had varying sharpness on Spyderco and Benchmade as well, so I always figure on sharpening it anyway. A Spyderco Sharpmaker is a great investment.
This thread actually got me to buy two more Sanrenmus just now :D
Completed an order for two 7010's which are modelled after Sebenza's. Look up the reviews on Amazon for that one:
http://www.amazon.com/Sanrenmu-7010LUC-SA-Pocket-Folding-Knife/dp/B00GMMPIK2
Scores a 4.7 with 83 ratings. Which is a .1 better rating then a Benchmade Griptilian and the same as the Mini-Grip gets on Amazon.
If you compare the prices, 8,31 USD which I paid for the Sanrenmu versus 98 USD for the Griptilian on Amazon, it really is an amazing deal of a knife. Even accounting for 'nice for the price' reviews, some people really seem to take a liking to these Chinese clones.
We'll see if I like these as much as my 7063.
For that price range I would look at something along the lines of a Cryo 2 (http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1556BW-Folding-Blackwash-SpeedSafe/dp/B00I04OHQ6)
The black wash finish may be unique enough for you (I like the finish because it hides scratches well)
I have it and it's not as nice as my Benchmades or ZT but I can absolutely beat on this knife and it just takes it. At the price point of $32 you could spend the remaining $18 (staying under $50) on a torx set if you want to be able to disassemble and clean your knife.
$37.07 on amazon at the moment.
Here's the link of the Cryo II I bought two weeks ago: http://www.amazon.de/Kershaw-Klappmesser-Blackwash-SpeedSafe-1556BW/dp/B00I04OHQ6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1417803795&sr=8-6&keywords=cryo
Shouldn't be a problem to get it shipped to Sweden from Germany! It's a great little blade, I can only recommend it!
One of my favorite budget knives
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I04OHQ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you just like the look of the knife but don't want to drop $225, the new Kershaw/emerson collaboration is very similar in structure:
http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-6034-Emerson-Designed-CQC-6K/dp/B00I0RSVQK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407607862&sr=8-1&keywords=cqc+6k
Definitely a solid, reliable knife.
What is your budget and what type of blade are you looking for?
My favorite knife is the CRKT M16-13SF With the Auto Lawks feature, it becomes a veritable tank and performs like a full tang fixed blade.
I really like my Spyderco Tenacious as an EDC, does everything you're looking for.
The Kershaw 6034 Emerson Designed CQC-6K and the Kershaw 6044TBLK Emerson Designed CQC-8K are supposed to be really good, I haven't gotten around to buying but I am going to real soon.
If money is not an issue, then I suggest going for the Benchmade or Emerson route.
Fixed blades? Without getting too deep into it an ESEEor a Ka-Bar will last you forever.
Or you could just go with you know... An icepick
Kershaw for the money can't be beat. It's in my pocket now. Spydercos are great too...
Don't get that. If you want to wow him, definately get something special, like a Spyderco Delica Wave
The wave, patented by Emerson (famous high end brand), allows knives to be deployed the moment out of the pocket by itself. See if he owns one already, if not, that is a great choice.
Any of the Kershaw X Emerson CQC series is also a great choice, with the same wave feature. I always get these as gifts for people, both knife nut and non-nut. They always seem to be wowed by the wave feature. Its just my go-to for a knife gift.
http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-6034-Emerson-Designed-CQC-6K/dp/B00I0RSVQK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449725440&sr=8-1&keywords=kershaw+cqc

My personal preferance is towards the 6K in that series.

So you seem pretty knowledgeable, and I trust your opinion. I’ve narrowed it down to 6 I’m choosing between, with some definitely more likely than others. Three are folders , and three are fixed . While I no longer trust MTech for folders, their blade kept decently well, and there’s not a lot of room for screws loosening on fixed blades. I also know Elk Ridge was never mentioned in the tread, but I’ve owned one fixed and one folder from them and they were both great knives, I have faith in the brand

If I can't use it as a prybar it's not a knife I'm going to carry. I abuse the shit out of my knives. My current EDC is the CRKT Squid, we'll see how this one does, I get a new one about every 2 years. Not a single bit of plastic on it and the blade is nice and thick, thick belly and point.
