You might want to get a critter-safe skimmer cover.

Very cool man!

I made one of these years ago; a couple suggestions:

  • Adding a temperature controlled outlet plugin you can put the probe in the water and set a specific temp that you always want the tub to be at to bypass the freezer's desire to always... ya, know... freeze.
  • If it begins to leak, you can add a pool liner inside for an easy way to line/seal it.
u/evilmonkey2 · 3 pointsr/uberdrivers

here you go.

I don't have the LED in it right now though. But it attaches with Velcro inside and has a little remote with it.

here's the charger

Not the exact LED but similar

I put one of these in my Pentair socket
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074KJ9BYS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Great colors, and comes with a remote control. Easy to install. Highly recommend.

I topped the plant after the 4th node and performed some LST. Where I live, the RH in the winter is very low. In my basement where I grow, the RH was around 20% - 25%. The leaves were curling and basically looked off. I use these in my Spacebuckets to keep an eye on temperature and humidity > https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0713XJ1NR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .
After getting the humidity up to around 40% - 50%, my plant did well and grew very quickly. Low temperature was another problem so I hooked up a small space heater close to the SB.

I have one of these Critter Skimmers in my pool. It works great for saving bugs and small animals from the skimmer. The make several sizes as well as a round version... http://amzn.com/B003G30FJE/?tag=3feetunder-20

I don't know very much about lights to be honest just that usually you can expect a yield (when grown right) of approx 1 gram per watt. Most led panels overrate their lights an you have to read the fine print, the one your buying puts out 96 watts of light so you can expect a yield similar to that. The good thing about lights tho is you can always add more later and keep using the ones you have so it might be good to start with. Also i bought this thermometer https://www.amazon.ca/ThermoPro-Thermometer-Temperature-Hygrometer-Batteries/dp/B0713XJ1NR/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1536507003&sr=8-16&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=thermometer+hygrometer which has the remote sensor. My only complaint is the sensor part has a little blinking red light I had to cover (as any small amounts of especially red light during night cycle can hurt your plants). But other than that it works fantastically. If I could find one with a much smaller sensor part (like one you could put into your curing jars to see what's going on inside) I would go with that one instead.

Shock Alert

This is pretty much exactly what you’re talking about. We have two of these at the marina I work at and they work pretty well although they do wear out after a couple of years however we use ours to test every boat in the harbour I’d imagine just for personal use they’d probably last a lot longer.

Air bubbles are usually an air leak on the inlet side of the pump.

The filter basket is typically clear. It should fill with water completely; maybe a quart quarter (USA coin) sized air bubble at the maximum.

I kept thinking my Jandy Valves had an air leak, but once I changed out the 14-year-old pump, it finally solved the mystery!

Stuff I use for the threaded connections "Blue Oatey."
https://www.oatey.com/2370868/Product/N/Oatey-8-fl-oz-Great-Blue-Pipe-Joint-Compound

Original Pipe was thread into the pump; the PVC cemented in place. They used the "white threaded sealant" which leaked air after a few years. Cut and sectioned pipe, and installed these:

LPT: If you haven't done PVC Pipe Cement the first dozen times is a nightmare. Buy a 4' length of PVC and a simple 2" joint. You want to "insert and twist" to get a good seal, practice makes perfect. I've done in the past with ease home building. Three years later, darn if I don't need a days practice to get back into the rhythm of doing that. Pool guys do this daily and make it so easy, but it is a learned skill.

The hot tub level is going back down at night. Your "Jandy one-way check valves" have rubber spring loaded seals. After five or ten years (?) common item to rebuild. Pretty simple. Screws into plastic, light pressure, turn screw backward until you feel a click, now forward. Helps keep you from cross threading the housing.

Sadly between a pool and septic field, I've gotten lots of practice on those valves!

https://www.jandy.com/en/products/valves/check

Damn finger typo's today, forgive me for not correctly linking those. I'm using copy-paste and dragon speak to type this morning. Time fo meds, just another day living with Parkinson's. Oh, I have a massive magnet on a stick for finding those screws when I drop them in the grass.

u/bejean · 2 pointsr/whatisthisthing

Manual doesn't have an exploded view. There is a check valve to keep water from backflowing from the jets when you block them, but I don't see how this part would come from it. This is the valve.

I used these: Intex Replacement Hose Adapter A w/Collar for Threaded Connection Pumps (2 Pairs) - 4 Pieces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ND3CVLZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_rDNSCb5KB3FJ0

I put them at my filter in/out so the hoses that went into the pool were what came with my pool.

Here is an old topic about PVC https://www.reddit.com/r/aeroponics/comments/8j1pyk/does_nobody_care_that_pvc_isnt_food_safe/

And that is the simplest disc filter https://www.amazon.com/BALDR-Style-Irrigation-Filter-Male-Threads/dp/B07CBTW465/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1527744612&sr=8-10&keywords=disc+filter

There are a lot of self-cleaning disc filters, in most cases they are designed for industrial use. Just search em in your region like "self cleaning disc filter"

UPD: I now understand your concern with PVC - ask the supplier for the relevant certificates.

I can speak now only for Russia, but here chemical properties of such simple polymers, as PVC, are studied in chemistry lessons at school. So it's obvious for everyone that PVC is safe. In the case of certification, this question is not even asked

About roots - a wrote at the beginning about filters, that you can use to clean water before pumping it. And Growing Medium zipgrow use is a foam, and, looks like, it is suitable for one, or a maximum of two grow cycles.

u/RandallDC · 1 pointr/pools

That would be fabulous, because an OEM is running upwards of $750 with a 3 year warranty right now. What gives me pause is this: https://www.amazon.com/BLUE-WORKS-T-15-Cell-Compatible-Pro-Rated/dp/B07MZ1P4HH/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=t-15+cell&qid=1565241217&s=gateway&sr=8-3

"Our BLT cell is compatible with .... 4.2 or newer Aqua Logic systems." I think my mainboard firmware is at 2.6x. Unless it is referencing something else?

Something like this?

UOTOO Tap Lights, Wireless Stick on Push Lights, Battery Powered Led Click Touch Light for Closet, Cabinet, Trunk, White Light 8-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X1FVXR9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YPKLBbRCR6HVD ?

Actually you might be able to use something like - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072JS9NP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_QQKLBb6YA6WVF - and Velcro it to your shower curtain or stick it in a clear bag and hang it from the curtain rod if you are feeling lazy. Like I normally am.

I wouldn't fully drain without seeing the pool - is it partially buried? As for how to drain, these work well but take long:
https://www.amazon.com/Aquatix-Pro-Ground-Drainer-16-Feet/dp/B01FI128PA/

Draining a pool that is like 5-10,000 gallons you'll need something with a submersible pump. But, I am fully against draining an above ground pool. All that does is invite more problems than it solves.

u/hostmostoast · 1 pointr/pools

Can't go wrong with the inteliflo VSF. It's expensive but parts will be available forever and it's the most proven pump. Typically you have to buy it at a pool store.

Next best option would be the superflo VS. Much smaller pump, still very capable. If you pool is just a 20x40 without water features or hot tub the superflo would be fine. Inteliflo gives you many more options with scheduling (which you may or may not care about).

Get some 2" high temp unions (IF you do inteliflo) https://www.amazon.com/PACK-Hi-Temp-Union-Whisperflo-Intelliflo/dp/B00AKMV4K8 like these so your pump can be easily serviced in the future.

u/swaggyson · 1 pointr/swimmingpools

thanks! but it doesn't look like the Handle includes the shaft. So I will probably have to purchase the whole top section of the filter.

u/Dbl_Helix · 1 pointr/swimmingpools

No, no, no. You buy a SPX0714BA for $70.00 and all you have to do is remove 6 screws, pull the old top half off put the new one in (matching the notch) and screw it back down.

u/enigmical · 1 pointr/pics

There's also this wonderful invention that keeps frogs from making themselves into soup in your filter!

To schedule and turn on/off outdoor lights with from my phone. I couldn't find a dedicated product intended to replace standard outdoor timers, which are clunky, noisy, awkward.

Basically I can control lights, music, and temperature everywhere in my home from my phone. There's even products to time sprinklers from a phone, but I've gotta fiddle around with these to get the lighting right.

The little things with thumbscrews for setting the time. If they're not all of the way on to the clock, they don't like to reach the lever.
