I've always been fond as hell of The Fragile, and more so recently, this.
This is from the Duran Duran Tribute Album , which has plenty of other great versions of Duran Duran songs.
It's like people have never heard of cover albums before now. This only got attention because it was (supposedly) a big name doing it instead of, say, an easily-missed gothic cover album. Or an indie rock cover album.
I made part of my research paper that's due tomorrow, if that counts..

Avenue Of The Giants is the Arctic Sleep song that really made me a fan. It kicks off the Arbors album and it reminds me of how Hum used to (still does?) kick off live shows with Winder. Repeating heavy groove, little/no singing.
I actually learned of Arctic Sleep from the Hum tribute album, Songs Of Farewell & Departure.
Probably a strange thing, but there's these string covers of the Flaming Lips that I just adore. Here's a youtube link for Do You Realize??.

There's an album called Bowiemania which is full of David Bowie covers. Including a pretty good rendition of All the Young Dudes by The New Standards.
On the same album, check out Space Oddity by Emilie Simon, Heroes by Manuel Armstrong & Sacha Sieff and an live performance of Life On Mars by The Divine Comedy and Yann Tiersen.
There's also a very surprising string quartet version of Ashes to Ashes which just ruined the original Bowie version for me.
