Ahagon Umiko and Sakura Nene from {{New Game}}. they are so similar looking, I didn't even question it.

Leeta and Carla from Making Love. Thanks u/WariReku for the correction.

Edit the second: it's a pretty enjoyable story, but quite short, 79 pages.

u/glynnstewart · 24 pointsr/printSF

Not necessarily my strong suit (my own stuff is roughly the opposite of what you're looking for, so I figure I'm safe to recommend things here) but I definitely have a few to check out

Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga first and foremost. There is quite a bit of war and conflict, but it's not really the focus of the plot. The focus is the characters and their development, primarily the titular Miles Vorkosigan.

You can start with the first Miles Vorkosigan book ( https://www.amazon.com/Warriors-Apprentice-Lois-McMaster-Bujold/dp/1886778272 ) or with the duology around his mother (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BH9T86/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_2)

Next up would be Nathan Lowell's Golden Age of The Solar Clipper. No wars at all, these cover the life story of a merchant shipper rising from a generic crewman to captain and owner of his own ship. Fascinating character studies and very well written. Start with Quarter Share ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AMO7VM4/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_1)

Lindsay Buroker's space opera has a bunch of war and conflict, but it's mostly background for a more general adventure SF story. The first three books of her Fallen Empire series are bundled up here: https://www.amazon.com/Fallen-Empire-Omnibus-Books-prequel-ebook/dp/B06XK7HT4T

I'm now going to lurk on this thread, as I should probably be reading stuff with a tad fewer explosions myself ;)

Something good has already come out of the controversy about fake news: a new Chuck Tingle book!

u/Kerr94 · 8 pointsr/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

Yep. Everything I know about it is from what I read of the Amazon description. It's a YA series about a dystopian society in which people are divided at birth into one of two arbitrary categories based on what their genitals look like. It's chilling really, sure is a good thing the real world isn't like that.

u/millenniumegg · 6 pointsr/transgendercirclejerk

Not sure if you're familiar, but...

>A toxic river divides nineteen-year-old Violet Bates's world by gender.
>Women rule the East. Men rule the West.
>
>Welcome to the lands of Matrus and Patrus.
>
>Ever since the disappearance of her beloved younger brother, Violet's life has been consumed by an anger she struggles to control. Already a prisoner to her own nation, now she has been sentenced to death for her crimes.
>
>But one decision could save her life.
>
>To enter the kingdom of Patrus, where men rule and women submit.
>
>Everything about the patriarchy is dangerous for a rebellious girl like Violet. She cannot break the rules if she wishes to stay alive. But abiding by rules has never been her strong suit, and when she is thrust into more danger than she could have ever predicted, Violet is forced to sacrifice many things in the forbidden kingdom ... including forbidden love.
>
>In a world divided by gender, only the strongest survive...

For what it's worth, read the first line of the second review of the #2 romance book on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Bossman-Vi-Keeland-ebook/dp/B01IMFDR9A/ref=zg_bs_158566011_2

And then this one, which is #3: https://www.amazon.com/Prince-Benefits-Billionaire-Royal-Romance-ebook/dp/B01HVG9M3Q/ref=zg_bs_158566011_3

And then the 4th review of this, which is the #6 bestseller: https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Stroke-Romantic-Comedy-Brothers-ebook/dp/B01I91G7S0/ref=zg_bs_158566011_6

ARCs are the industry norm, they're used by all the top-selling authors, and Amazon accepts them as long as they're honest.

Hey! Welcome! There's a great journal out there called Where I Am Led that helps guide submissives on their path.

I've also written a book about my transition from a vanilla, egalitarian marriage to one of kink and power exchange. You can check the reviews on Amazon and if you/she would like a free author's ebook copy I'm happy as always to send one. Paperback is available there too if she'd prefer. Shoot me a DM with your preferred email and I'll get you an electronic copy if you would like.

Here's the link to both:

Mercedes Lackey is a crazy prolific fantasy writer, with several different series under her belt - I'd recommend the Bedlam's Bard series (modern day elves - sidhe elves, that is, not Tolkien's elves) or her Valdemar Saga, an epic series following the magic and politics of a fictitious country.

Even if those don't tickle your fancy, you should check out her website. She's written so much, odds are you'll like something.

I read these three recently, and i can safely recommend them:

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (gonna have a movie made soon)

Looking for Alaska also by John Green

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion (much grittier than the movie)

This book is awesome and really helped my boyfriend understand the D/s mindset and helped us move forward in our journey. The couple starts off vanilla so it should be relatable to you. The author posts here on the BDSM subs too.

Note: it's geared towards those interested in a 24/7 lifestyle but does contain some general useful "scene" info as well.

Not His Dragon by Annie Nicholas fits the bill for a cheesy supernatural romance. The ebook for Not His Dragon is free right now, and the other books in the series (they're loosely connected, but each book can be read as a stand-alone) are in Kindle Unlimited (and the others are reasonably priced if you don't use KU).

For sci-fi, you could try Dark Horse by Michelle Diener, if you like space operas. It's not super lighthearted, but it's not dark either, and it's got a bit of romance too.

I'm a new author! My first book, Going Bearserk, was just released!

It's only 99 cents/Free in Kindle Unlimited!

Blurb for Going Bearserk: A Viking Shifter Romance

Lana:

I never believed in scary stories. Now I know better.

Now I’m on the run, looking for a new life. One where I can be free from my family’s expectations and safe from the darkness I discovered.

Enter Iohan, the mysterious and sexy stranger who rescues me from a mishap in the mountains. He’s a bit odd, sure, but he’s over six feet of jaw-dropping, muscular handsomeness. He also seems determined to protect me. Surely I can’t have found my new life already—and not with this man. After all, I’m beginning to suspect Iohan has a secret of his own…

Iohan:

I am a warrior with no battles to fight. Ripped from my time by a mysterious curse, I am destined to wait out the rest of my days alone. I have no faith, no family, no home.

When Lana appears in my mountains, she unlocks something inside of me. Something that I thought I could never feel again. She is running, and I am drawn to protect her. To make her mine. I can only hope that I will not become more dangerous to her than what she is running from…

Going Bearserk is a standalone novella (25k+) with a HEA

Hi!

I post here sometimes, but I'm using a different username today.

I published THIS for my first book. It's a time travel paranormal romance. Now I'm wondering if the cover/blurb are awful, as I'm working on a second book in the same world (not a series, but a set of standalones.)

For the book in the same world, I've mocked up a cover that needs work, but maybe has some direction: here.

I'd appreciate advice on either one of these. Thanks so much!

A copy/paste of one of my posts from January:

There are several books about BDSM and its culture. Also female sexuality is often shunted for male, and both genders get a ton of misinformation in the judgmental world. The clit is a lot more than a nub and the proper term is vulva. I’ll post a few links of my favorite reading material and a bit about why I enjoyed them. The New Topping a New Bottoming Books a good overview of how to set up, the different types, and responsibilities of each person in a scene and explores the emotional side of it. https://www.amazon.com/New-Topping-Book-Dossie-Easton/dp/B001TJV5DW

Playing Well With Others. Examines the entire kink culture and how and why people can safely get involved. All the different symbols, types of D/s way more definitions then I could say here, the difference between a kink club, sex club, fetish night, leather bar etc. is all here. The back has a great long overview of many possible kinks and a chart for you to map out your experience and limit levels with each one. Also has a glossary of more books.

Also I’m new to relationships in general but to really learn how to make a woman feel good you might want to look into She Comes First. As you'll see from reviews even couples who've been together a long time really got 'energized' by the book. Also good at dispelling many myths around female sexuality that both men and women might think. It’s written by a guy but very focused on female-centric pleasure, right up a subby guy’s alley. It’s really helped me and I’m only halfway through since I got it 2 days ago!
https://www.amazon.com/She-Comes-First-Thinking-Pleasuring/dp/0060538260/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1483221177&sr=1-1&keywords=she+comes+first

Darling Discovered. A submissive woman’s journey from a vanilla relationship transitioned to D/s. I really identified with her for much of the book. The other recommendations are mostly objective but you really go into Mrs. Darling’s heart, it’s a true story so none of the trite clichés made by authors who know nothing of the culture. It may also give insight to those already in relationships considering BDSM, something I don’t have experience in. Her prologue that you can view with Look Inside certainly grabs the attention of the reader! https://www.amazon.com/Darling-Discovered-True-Story-Submission/dp/0997421916

I have a few newer reviews if you want?

My book Postdiluvian: The Ancient Chronicle is space fantasy of a sort. It takes place in a universe where antediluvian people off-world at the time of the Great Flood (and therefore not included in its judgment) have built a thriving society spread throughout the galaxy.

Jake Connolly, a Thalani (descendent of postdiluvian earth-people) living off-world, finds himself caught in the middle of the conflict between two warring families, and he discovers how much his history and destiny are tied up with both of them. The Keneraton family seeks his life, and Silorè, great-granddaughter of the Itarlavon patriarch, is sent to rescue him.

Meanwhile Ilavè, leader of the Keneraton, is on the hunt for the Seed of the Atsari—the legendary seed to the Tree of Life. With it she hopes to heal her aged father and restore him as leader of her people in order to seize the Earth from the Itarlavon sworn to protect it.

This is book one in the series, and until 9/12/17 you can get it on Amazon Kindle for free.

Not quite in the same line as some of your suggestions, essentially the main character is a monster. She is one step removed from being a goddess. She is banned by various laws from the lands of men. John Green looking for alaska

I'd like to read this book because I find John Greens writing utterly captivating and charming in style. Having read some of his other works I'd love to get a chance to read this as its so well received. Also he seems like a very nice person so there's always that. I'm currently reading A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson and slightly loving it. Next I'm thinking of Labyrinth by Kate Moss because I borrowed it off a friend months ago and haven't touched it.

Edit: Can you stop with the right leaning idenity politics and focus on stuff that actually matters. Form you're posts you're talking about anti white, male standings and etc with very little focus on real socia-economic issues. You're not better than the left cause you're using the exact same idenity politics while using the same intellectual fallacies as them with your aguments.

I'm always down for a fair discussion but you need to bring up factual stuff that matters to most people. MRM and GG and this whole SJW talking points are losely founded on importance and facts. At the end of the day your post was hyperbolic.

Again don't wase my time unless you have something tanigible and important

> Not an argument. You claim GamerGate is not a hate group but the "alt-right sinked in with them" whatever that means, it just sounds like you want to associate GamerGate with the alt-right.

Are you even reading at this point? Did you even tried to understand what is sealioning? Clearly not if that is you're response.

This is the exact same reasons why people view the whole anti-sjw vs SJW bullshit beceause both sides don't bother to understand nuance or understand the argument. Instead of listening you're throwing accusations. Get the over yourself

>but you want to act like you supported GamerGate all along, it is hard to believe when you talk that way.

So just because you don't want to understand my positions and the wording doesn't fit your standard its not believiable? How is this differ from feminist tone policing? Wait its not.

Overally my point is GG lost its focusing and letting people of the ethnonationalist seep in the intial movement.

> Bullshit! The media was attacking GamerGate before they focused on Anita. Also GamerGate shouldn't have to change focus from fighting SJWs to not be SLANDERED AS A FUCKING HATE GROUP!

You know what? You're totally right. A group that produce shit like this totally shown itself to be on the good side of the fight. How is erotic fiction and trolling helped? It really didn't it only made her more mainstream and worse hurt GG actuals points.

You're agument is bullshit. CNN MSNBC and even comedians wouldn't even cared or noticed. Hell some MSM and celebs would of supported GG if it took itself seriously and focused on what mattered; Game Journalism. But no, they just had to focus on Anitia and the whole SJW thing.

>I care but I didn't agree with everything that Bernie Sanders stood for.

Fair enough

>My politics would actually look like a mix of Donald Trump & Bernie Sanders(among other things)

Two polar opposites but... okay

>And quite frankly, the Democrats are too authoritarian on social issues for me to support them anymore

I think I'm speaking with an idealog. How come I have a feeling that I already know what you're going to say before you say it and your main talking points?

>they act similar to the Religious Right, a right-wing faction that thankfully Donald Trump has been moving Republicans away from.

How is putting Betsy Devos and expanding on FADA for religious people DOESN'T bolster the religious right? His base is is religious. Facts say that 58% of Trump supporters are religious. You're the minority of Trump supporters. Name 1 secular thing that this man done in the white house?

>LOL NO

Uh huh. Totally, sueing strip clubs, doxxing potential rape victims and etc are totally good things

>CITATION NEEDED.

His involvement with the site "voice for men"

> But SJWs have a strong grip on politics, and even stronger grip on college Academia

Have you been to college or university? It sounds like you didn't went. SJWs are only a problem if you literally go hard like Milo and Spencer in their areas. Spencer actually goes to universities and speficially tries to provoke people. Milo singles trans students out and make fun of them even though they did nothing... Again you're losing me on this

Yup. I'm talking to an idealist. If anything we're too far right that anything that goes against christian values is concidered radical

America is a nation that its completely acceptable to say that "we can't have universial health care because of diversity and inner cities" and walk off as nationalist. Think about how far right America is where a system that is proven to help people is argued against due to "diversity". Kind of messed up.

How many people died due to SJWs? None really. How many people die to lack of health care due to Republicans 45,000 people according to Harvads. How many people will lose healthcare this year depending on Trump 26 to 32 million people? Do SJW affect my monthly mortgage bills? No. Did Trump's removing of the FHS did? YES, to the working class

>SJWs are the biggest threat to western civilization, if they are not stopped, we can kiss western civilization as we know it good bye.

Not the dependance on cheap labor, prision labor, lack of care for our water reserves which are diminishing and the long list of real issues. I really don't care much for the debate surrounding "white privilege"

Do you know what's embrassing? That many Americans focus on "fake nationalism" and the so called threat of SJWs which is overblown. Sorry, I don't see SJWs never killed anyone but a few Trump supporters did, Alexandre Bissonnette comes to mind. And before you bring up Muslims. Don't because they're not SJWs and Europe and the Middle east are suffering from a humanitarian crisis not a cultural one.
