We have those. My neighbor keeps them in bulk in his garage. They're hard to see in the video because they face the road, but they regularly get broken by incidents like this.

I wonder if some deer whistle alerts would keep the dog away.

Here's the link for the stuff I used:

http://www.amazon.com/customTAYLOR33-Intensity-SILVER-Reflective-©Copyrighted/dp/B00G61E1FW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1426438562&sr=8-4&keywords=reflective+tape+motorcycle

I chatted with the guy that sells it on facebook. Nice guy, very helpful, would buy again. Took maybe 45min to get it on.

u/dbmeed · 5 pointsr/flashlight

Im not sure that you want something as bright as possible, you just want something that will alert other drivers. Being too bright could potentially cause further accidents. Are you looking for something to inspect damages around your car, or just to notify other drivers of hazards?

Personally, I might suggest these as an alternative. The are reflective, so they should be easily visible by other drivers at night, and no batteries required to worry about running out. Furthermore, they would be able to be easily seen during the day as well, rather than a small puck that would likely be overlooked in bright sunlight.

u/Twisky · 4 pointsr/VEDC

All of this is stored in the trunk of my Jeep strapped down in the black tote pictured. I didn't get all of these things at Amazon, but tried to find a link to purchase everything.

Not pictured is a rollbar mounted fire extinguisher

This isn't specifically for camping, just what I have on me at all times.

Starting at the top right:

Wow, I never thought too much about that but it's definitely a valid concern. Electric cars are just so quiet, it's wild. Now that I'm thinking about it, I know they make these whistles that you can put on your car, when you're driving at a certain speed they make a sound animals like deer can hear.

Don't get a grill guard if you want actual front end protection.

The first thing to do is get a [deer whistle] (http://www.amazon.com/Living-Products-LLC-0001-Save-A-Deer/dp/B003XNGLJU) - you want to avoid any impact at all costs and prevention measures always outweigh mitigation measures.

If you really want front end protection you want to get a full replacement bumper. A brush guard is just that - it only protects against brush and minor front end scratches - in an actual collision brush guards often increase the amount of damage to the vehicle. There are [multiple outlets and vendors] (http://www.hdtruckware.com/ford-c-1/full-front-replacement-bumpers-c-1_6/) who sell front end protection - and many are pretty pricey.

There are more than a few individuals on /r/trucks that swear by brush guards "I hit a deer at 60 and didn't get a scratch!" - this is bullshit. Even full replacements only mitigate the overall damage done to the front end. I had a '96 F350 in one of the fleets I oversaw with a full replacement bumper - truck hit a deer at 50 and the whole front end was destroyed and the truck totaled out.

If you really want one, head over to your local craigslist and start shopping. I purchased both my front and rear full replacement bumpers (solid pipe ranch hand style) for $400 and got a set of rock bars/steps for $100 - these bumpers can retail for over $1k new. Find a shop to sandblast and paint it and then install it.

I'm curious, do you not have folding emergency warning triangles in the US as a legally required car accessory?

I've never seen them put up in videos like this, but at least in most of Europe you are legally required to put one up asap after an accident.

u/OJezu · 4 pointsr/motorcycles

Now I wonder in how many countries you are required to have one of them warning triangles in your car.

I apologize in advance for this long post. None of these are "must gets", but they are what I got for my 2016 Premium forester. I'm posting this for my own future reference as well as to help some people who are wondering what accessories might be good for their new forester. I highly recommend ordering from Jackie from Annapolis Subaru @ 443-837-1422 as she can get you some good prices on the subaru accessories as well as WeatherTech products! I saved on WeatherTech shipping costs (~$20) by ordering through Jackie and the warranty is the same as if I had bought them through their website.

Please note that some of these accessory links are for my specific car year, model and configuration. I have a 2016 Premium forester without eyesight (affects the Covercraft/heatshield sunshade - they also have eyesight compatible sunshades!).

Also, I personally didn't get my windows tinted, but I think that is something that you should seriously consider doing :)

It depends on the item, but that's not necessarily true at all. There are plenty of things but aren't suitable to flip for profit.

  • I had these safety triangles in my garage for 3-4 years and have no use for them. Box is dusty and a little faded but actual item is brand new. $40 retail, yeah I can put them and try to get $10-20 but it's not an in-demand item, rather that sitting on them for a month dealing with haggling, requests for more pics, and all that bullshit I put it up for free and it took a week for someone to just come and pick them up, because people who don't need this don't even want it for free. If someone does need it, I'm happy that they can use something I no longer need.

  • Dog collars/toys/supplies - I don't really care to get money for it but would rather someone (who is not well off) be able to use them rather than going to the trash. Again, no profit to be made.

  • Pots and pans or older kitchen appliances in good shape when you upgrade. Not worth trying to get $5,10, 20, whatever out of it, and nobody who does not need those things will reply. People who are furnishing their apartment and are broke would be happy to not have an added expense.

  • Stereo, older but works perfect, has AUX out (could even hook up a Bluetooth thing to it). Again, not worth the bullshit "feelers" and time wasters, and I'm happy if someone can use it for their new apartment or something.

None of these are something you can flip for a profit. No vetting required in any of the examples as people who don't need these things aren't going to msg me unless they are just complete hoarders (unlikely here as it's a big city and apartment/storage space is at a huge premium).

Just clearly state your terms and ignore any potential choosing beggars. Honestly I find it amusing when they like as for free delivery as it's a simple "fuck no". Like I can go put this in the trash, and that will be easier than dealing with your shit. Trying to do something nice here. But I'll happily drop off if they pitch in a $10 or whatever because I realize not everyone has a car and I'm always driving around the city.

Get this Sun Shade sold and shipped from Amazon. Don't get the cheaper ones on that page they don't fit and are inferior. Don't ask me how I know.

Something like this. Just hook it up to your backup lights.

u/Pinklovable · 2 pointsr/Lawsuits

Thank you for your comment~ Much appreciated. I've been trying to stay positive by reading inspirational quotes to get through day by day to keep my mind off these toxic people :)

Luckily, we have a garage to safely park our car inside at night and added security cameras after some magically cigarette butts landed on our driveway. Once someone disrespects me, they no longer exist to me. I don't tolerate bullshit and just try to move on. However, I suspect we have neighbours who are trying to sabotage our from home selling.

When we do home renovations outdoor, they would coincidentally walk by just to mock how "ugly" our house look. Ideally, we ignore their words and continue doing our work. To make matters worse, we live in between them and their in-law family house with their kids playing on our driveway in the past. That issue has stop ever since we got security camera installed around our home.

I'm aware they have been 'not so secretly' recording our vehicle back-up alarm when it automatically activates when it is shift into reverse because they started taking pictures of us while we were installing our security cameras outdoor. In addition, they would have their in-law family car intentionally block our car from easily reversing out of our driveway once in awhile so, someone inside of their home could record the back-up alarm noise activate for a longer period of time to collect video noise "evidence" coming from our vehicle instead of moving their car out of the way.

People try to sue over almost anything nowadays no matter how ridiculous it is. I've read an article about someone suing their neighbour for hanging up WIND CHIMES to Starbucks sued for $5 million for 'putting too much ice' in its iced drinks by a Chicago woman. If it was deemed too loud we believe some kind of official authority would of said something earlier to us if they measured the decibel (dB).

Hopefully everything will be alright in the end because I don't want to meet these people in court for this type of nonsense.

I did a good amount of research, I came to this conclusion: if you're going to go for just a black (carbon fiber?) or a clear one, then it's about $20 and you can get it here (the $20 options seem to be good according to a lot of forums): https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.Xf30+reflector.TRS0&_nkw=f30+reflector&_sacat=0

If you want one that matches your paint it's gonna be closer to $60-100 depending on what color (for my mineral grey f82 it was $70), get those here (just look up autoteknic f30 front reflector "color"):

Hello, beauty. Welcome to the Mustang Club. The red one is Rudy, and the blue one started off as Renegade until a dream I had where it was actually a Transformer and told me its name is Wanderlust (which is fitting, as I'm almost 60k miles in after a little over 3 years).

Do you feel like she's an old lady or a dignified younger woman? For old lady I like Blanche, or Bianca for the younger option.

I definitely suggest some kind of car garbage can. Even Wanderlust ends up cluttered, and a small garbage container looks better than a plastic bag hooked on the glovebox. I would keep a bunch of plastic bags folded in the bottom, with the one currently being used pulled up like a regular garbage bag, so you can just take the bag with you to toss it and pop a new one into place.

I also suggest a steering wheel cover if the wheel is factory original. I have that one in Rudy.

And while it may not be allowed, I'm always a fan of a little ornamentation hanging from the rear view. Wanderlust has a pentagram that's been in every vehicle I've ever owned, and it has a veteran poppy wrapped around the string.

I also strongly suggest you keep a car charger ONLY in the car that you do NOT remove to other vehicles. That way, you always know that you'll have a way to charge your phone.

And I personally keep a set of reflective triangles in my trunk along with the standard roadside emergency kit, gives a little added peace of mind if you ever break down. People are stupid and tend not to notice a broken down car. I'm a police dispatcher and I've had a lot of calls of a disabled vehicle getting hit by someone who didn't notice them.

I've never seen anyone use that foil before but why spend 20 dollars on an aluminum reflector? You can get mylar for 10.

A big ass maglight flashlight - a good light source and a heavy object in one.

Flairs, or emergency LED lights if you breakdown on the highway so you don't get rear-ended. Something like:

https://www.amazon.com/Fasmov-Warning-Triangle-Emergency-Reflector/dp/B016MBHC56/

A good first aid kit. Not the 83-tiny-bandages-and-4-Tylenol first aid kit, but something EMTs recommend.

Water. If you're heading anywhere near deserts, lots of water.

A cellphone charger that lives in your car.

u/bukakerooster · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

There is a spot on the trunk hatch that comes with a plastic red bar from the factory.

Volkswagen Warning Triangle VW Beetle Convertible CC Golf 000093057 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRGB8PS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hHCnDbZEET36S

I bought my car used so I'm not 100% on what happened to mine. But apparently it's not required by US law so dealers take them out? I went and bought a new one to replace it. Other people use the space as a way to keep an umbrella in their car.

u/polytrigon · 1 pointr/onewheel

Fender for sure is the absolute top accessory. You know when you're rolling down the street and theres that line of water all the way across from a neighbor washing their card or w/e? Yeah you roll over that at any speed and it's going to splash water into your crotch. Same goes for puddles, light rain, etc.

The second thing I'd recommend is instead of getting sidekicks get yourself some of this reflective 3M tape. I got the 2" wide roll and it's plenty to cover the sides also it's kinda gummy and thick so it does add some protection. It's reflective and it protects keeps your stuff fresh... if it wears out you've got enough for a complete redo!

u/identifytarget · 1 pointr/projectcar

You need one of these

u/AlienBloodMusic · 1 pointr/technology

The technology already exists, it just needs some minor adaptations.

u/wallyTHEgecko · 1 pointr/bikesgonewild

This is the tape I used and here's a couple pictures I took after putting it on.

I can't say how bright it is when lit with a car's headlights because, well, I'm on top of it when it's out in traffic. But with a camera flash, it's pretty bright. And I even see the interior lights reflecting when I open the door into the garage.

u/Rex_Lee · 1 pointr/texas

That's why I always put put out a few of these reflectors on a stick - so matter which way your car is parked you can make sure your camp can be seen.

i think they invented something to save the deer back in 1902 when these were invented:

XD

u/umibozu · 1 pointr/boston

may not pay for the repairs though and might even kill you if they go through the windshield.

While visiting a friend in Indiana, many people there have a kind of inaudible (for humans) car whistle that is activated with speed and will supposedly scare away deer.
https://www.amazon.com/Living-Products-LLC-0001-Save-A-Deer/dp/B003XNGLJU

They have so many accidents hitting deer it's a serious safety issue. A lot of people I talked to had personal experience with either close calls or outright hitting deer.

u/WelfordNelferd · 1 pointr/whatisthisthing

I can't get a good bead on exactly where that is, but it looks like it could be a deer whistle: https://www.amazon.com/Living-Products-LLC-0001-Save-A-Deer/dp/B003XNGLJU

TALKING BACKUP ALARM (AUDIO) ▶ https://youtu.be/_aFizlXs-7U ~

My relative's back up alarm on his vechile sound like something similar to this ▶ https://youtu.be/qiZh9C7ILt0 🎵🔊 I guess you would call it amplified music?!

No, trust me. He's not like that at all~ Despite several other petty revenge that my neighbor attempted on us...He always told me to "Let It Go". They littered cigarattes on our driveway and picked fruits from our tree in the backyard before but we never reported them or kept any as evidence. We try to ignore them from teasing us and just continue to do our own thing; living life.

The only reason why I see my neighbour would intentionally block us from reversing from our driveway is so, they could record evidence of the back up alarm noise coming from our vechile. We got to wait for them to move out of the way. Like you reverse out vertically, their car would park horizontally forming a T Shape #Sigh 😧

I noticed my neighbour would choose the perfect time waiting when he has to go to work to pull this kind of stunt...! I'm not impressed 😑

The back up alarm last as long as it takes to reverse a car out the garage and out of the driveway. I don't think it takes that long...maybe a few seconds or so. We live in a semi by the way~

It's not rocket science that after awhile you notice it only activates when the car is reversing. Even the instructions to install it on Amazon or eBay says you connect it to the reverse lights of the car; making it activate automatically in reverse.

But, I think they are using the alarm as an excuse blaming us that were intentionally harassing them with noise or whatever they can pull on us despite the fact that be had good intentios for safety in mind. Hearing Loss? I truly don't know.

Sadly, my relative still doesn't see the worries of lawsuit or losing money over a back up alarm at the moment. He always tell me not to worry and everything will be okay. If anything, the police will ALWAYS give warnings first if there's an issue that needs to be fixed in Canada. He is too niave and doesn't believe that he is doing anything that's agianst the law :( I'm so sad about this matter. He doesn't belive me since I'm a kid and think he knows better. I always told him to becareful because my neighbour always look they are after something otherwise thereally would be no need for them to monitor us so closely like that...~
