These work really well to minimize the appearance of scars. Also, maybe check out r/SkincareAddiction.

I want to believe Kitty felt terrible about hurting you, but I know better. Glad everything worked out for you two, though.

They look like the scar "gel" pads you can buy in the first aid/bandaid sections of most stores (I've purchased from Target, Wal-mart, Walgreens, etc). They're a little pricey but reusable and I like to cut them up into tiny pieces to cover individual spots.

Ok, so first off, stop digging at your feet with an exact-o knife. That's like using a chainsaw to cut drywall.

If you need to physically remove calluses and dead skin, get the right tool for the job: a pumice stone and/or callus rasp/callus shaver. Use these carefully, especially around areas where you've got cuts.

To help the dry parts of your feet heal, moisturize! Silicone/gel socks feel weird (it's like walking on rubber duckies) and make my feet sweaty, but they've done more to soften gnarly calluses than anything else I've ever tried, especially when used regularly and for several hours at a time. (If you aren't afraid of girly colors, there are plenty of other/cheaper options for these on Amazon.) When you aren't wearing the socks, use a lotion or cream like Working Feet or Cerave Foot Cream. Also, ALWAYS wear socks (just like normal cotton socks) when you aren't wearing the silicon socks.

You can also do a foot soak, either with just water, or water plus some bath salts or foot soak stuff. Silicon scar sheets or hydrocolloid bandages might also help with some of the deeper/open cuts you have.

Combine those for several weeks, probably in the order of foot soak, callus shave, moisturize + socks, then more moisturizer after removing, and I'd think you'd see a lot of improvement.

The babyfoot thing is also a good idea for you, but I wouldn't recommend using that until all of your cuts/open wounds have healed. I think the peels are basically acid, and that's probably very painful if you use it on open cuts.

If all of that fails, go see a doctor or podiatrist. Your feet are super important, and if the above interventions aren't helping, I think that's a strong sign your feet need some professional help to get them healed up.

Scar cream/treatments are so expensive. Mederma is okay. My doctor said that massaging the cream in is the most important part, as it works to break up the scar tissue. I've also heard Bio-Oil is really great.

u/amadeoamante · 7 pointsr/ftm

The gel and strips are similar. They both put a coating of silicone over the scar, which keeps moisture in. If you like the strips better you can buy them online for less. Here's the large size of the brand name (use scissors to cut into strips) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KY3IOU/. A lot of people seem to be using a much cheaper tape for the same thing: https://www.amazon.com/Mepitac-298300-Soft-Silicone-Tape/dp/B002VE9AL8/ But the gel will work just as well. Whichever method you use isn't going to work miracles, but it can help to improve the scar appearance to some extent.

u/cadenatorr · 6 pointsr/ftm

Hey dude! I'd recommend this Regular Mederma didn't really do much for me, but this stuff really works especially if your scars end up being a little puffy. I also use Mephitic silicone strips, they've worked really well for me and you can wear them for a couple of days. Hope your surgery goes well!

u/capri-blue · 5 pointsr/CrohnsDisease

I used silicone scar sheets, it seemed to help.

I used this style: https://www.amazon.com/ScarAway-Silicone-Scar-Sheets-1-5/dp/B003DGWTXE?th=1

I cut them to fit the width and length of my scar.

In my research the only thing prove me to reduce appearance of scars was silicone. I’ve had best luck with ScarAway Scar Treatment Gel, Clinically Supported to Flatten and Soften Raised Scars, 10 Gram https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X17LJF9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_N.iSDbATFV80A

If it’s in a high friction area there’s silicone bandages but they’re more work.

u/cervical_ripening · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

You can read a little about the science of snail mucin here. The article she links on burns mentions open wound management, so my instinct is that it would help heal fresh burns by providing additional moisture, but I don't think it would have a significant effect on older ones. Some people have reported success with ScarAway silicone sheets, but again, it might just work for newer burns. If it's a mature scar, I think the best bet is probably a fractional laser, or if it's pretty deep, a plastic surgeon. Nothing will really "cure" a burn scar and I wouldn't expect the snail mucin to have a noticeable difference. But hey, I don't think it would hurt?

u/sunrisesunbloom · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Oh, dang :( Sorry to hear that! Silicone sheets seem to be the cheapest treatment--maybe give those a shot?

u/iamyoursenses · 4 pointsr/xxfitness

My baby sister had very invasive back surgery (at 16 -- not a good time to feel different) and she wore these patches on her scars and they helped tremendously.

http://www.amazon.com/ScarAway-Professional-Silicone-Treatment-Sheets/dp/B001AJ4L1E

They're expensive, but it made her thick, purple surgical scar fade to a soft, nude color. The texture is better too: much less noticible.

u/smoonyc · 4 pointsr/thyroidcancer

I had my hemithyroidectomy done a week ago and had never been under general anesthesia before so was also concerned. Pre-op, they gave me a gown, robe, skid-proof socks to wear, put in my IV. I was able to put my curly hair up in a top knot with a silk scrunchie (no metal) so it didn't tangle (listen its the small stuff!). I was walked to the OR (it's not like on TV!), give a hair net to put on, greeted all the surgical staff and then laid myself down on the table (again - SO WEIRD!). The anesthesiologist gave me an IV "cocktail" which felt like I had one too many drinks and then I was out. I came to when I was wheeled into recovery and complained about being woken from a REALLY good sleep ;)

The surgery itself was not nearly as bad as I thought it to be (and you read a lot of the negative experiences here). My voice is fine, my parathyroids are fine and I feel so much better than I did before. As someone else stated, the sore throat is 100% the worst bit of all of it. I didn't have to stay overnight but I only had my right side removed but I wasn't sure if I would go home so things I recommend:

- Have some good numbing cough lozenges (I had Cepacol: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWS60RG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) or throat spray (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004L4XC3I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and keep chewing ice, it'll help.

- Do not be afraid to ask for the good drugs from the nurse - it'll help to sleep a lot of the time.

- Wear comfy clothes. I was able to dress myself and lift my arms up to put things on (but they were super easy stretchy & loose clothes) but my sister had to help tie my laces as bending down wasn't as easy.

- Get some PJs that button down: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0772S54GH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Comfy slippers/skid-proof socks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M24S9OF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Comfy pillow to prop yourself up for the first few days - its easier to sleep sitting up higher as there's less pressure on your neck. I could sleep lying flat and on my side after 4-5 days.

- An ice pack that can stay strapped around your neck. I wrapped mine in a pillowcase first then used a velcro hair band to keep it in place. I got this from Amazon (so it can be used cold or hot): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CHLS3B3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Silicone scar sheets for post-op (I can use them in about 4-5 weeks post-op): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P5G9PQD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- If you're a woman, I got these front close bras so I wouldn't have to lift my arms: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KKVLP2D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- A good thick lip balm. I like this one from Laniege but honestly anything you like will do: https://www.amazon.com/LANEIGE-Sleeping-Berry-Treatment-Qunce/dp/B00VR0Z0I4/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=laneige&qid=1571934520&sr=8-1

- I took my Vicodin, Stool Softener (yeeeep it can cause constipation) with 1 Aleve (it's not acetaminophen) for the 1st 5 days at night only to ease my sleep but I didn't need pain meds after that.

Outside of sleeping a lot (recovering from surgery will do that), I was back to eating well chewed solids on the 3rd day post-surgery but that will all be on personal preference. You won't be able to shower for at least 48 hours so make sure to do that morning of if you can.

Most of all - good luck! You will be OK and the relief from having it out will be well worth it. I haven't had my bloodwork done yet to determine whether or not I will need medication (I know you will since its a TT) but that'll be the tricky part from what I've read. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions!

u/thebunz21 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I had one of these on my cheek, even after Accutane. I suspect it was a combination of cortisone shots and actual acne. It was definitely a scar, never came to a head.

My mom bought me this since she had used it after a surgery on a scar. I took a small (clean) manicure scissors and cut a piece to place over my (clean and dry) scar, then secured with a small amount of first aid tape overnight. It made a difference in the size and color but I had to be diligent.

(I noticed Amazon also sells just actual scar band-aid type things which may work, too).

u/aturquoiseseashell · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Stay out of the sun. Apply maximum strength sun screen to the scars if you need to be outside. You can purchase silicone scar gel-- that is the stuff that works the best. BioOil, other creams have no value/do nothing, it's all placebo effect. I had plastic surgery and so I researched a ton into minimizing scars. My scars are barely visible.

Your scars are still red so they're still remodeling. That's a good sign, it means you can intervene and make sure they fade. Try that silicon scar gel--there's plenty on Amazon (http://www.amazon.ca/ScarAway-Treatment-Diminishing-Massaging-Applicator/dp/B004CCNAMW). Make sure you moisturize a lot: hydration is key. Good luck!

u/chococandle · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I had a friend who had a large scar and she used silicone sheets to soften the tissue, I don't know if this is the exact brand.

u/DeLaNope · 2 pointsr/scars

Whoa, glad you are doing better. Those are no joke.

Removal... I don't know, they're fairly large and involved. Since they're newish, you could try keeping everything heavily moisturized with some quality cocoa butter, or try silicon sheeting. There's been some studies pointing to scar improvement with silicon, but I have no personal experience with them.

In time, the deep purple will fade, and they will become less noticeable.

A tattoo might help, but I would splurge on a good artist. I don't think scar tissue holds ink as well as normal skin.

Dating? They wouldn't bother me.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/WTF

Here's what you should do.

I'm really sensitive about scars, so whenever I get one (which is normal – I don't know a single person without them), I try to take good care of it.

Since this has happened quite a while ago, I would recommend putting Mederma on it twice a day – once right after you get out of the shower (and dry off completely, of course) and then once before you go to bed. More doesn't hurt, but you will need to do this for about six months, so I wouldn't because of cost (and honestly, it won't help much more).

Luckily, Amazon seems to be having a sale right now on Mederma.

Here is other stuff you will need to do:

Try to keep your skin out of the sun – exposure darkens the wounds. Always put sunscreen on. Use petroleum jelly as much as you can too.

By the way, reviews you might see about the PJ and M being the same thing = false. Merderma corrects the skin color and keeps your skin moist, while petroleum jelly only does the latter. However, the latter is vastly cheaper and still does help – so please use it for more effective results! Good luck! :)

u/CrumbzID · 2 pointsr/foreskin_restoration

Is that due to the lack of the frenulum? I assumed if the skin gets loose enough, if pushed over the front of the head it would just stay as it were, at least when flaccid. Either way, this seems to have nothing but positive benefits. I'm going to go for around an hour of manual tugging per day, coupled with low-intensity tape holding the foreskin just over the glans for as long as I can each day, along with a manhood, until I can keep it covered on its own (I heard it helps with keeping the tape in place anyways.

Someone on a youtube thread recommended me this tape. Would this be a good choice?

http://www.amazon.com/ScarAway-Professional-Silicone-Treatment-Sheets/dp/B001AJ4L1E/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463362764&sr=8-1&keywords=scar+awayThey

It looks kind of wide, but maybe that's a good thing. I could always cut it if I had to. Maybe it would help with glans scarring too, since it is scar reduction tape.

u/dollarstorecoffee · 2 pointsr/ftm

Can’t say much for steroid shots but I’ve just started applying kelo-cote scar gel to my incisions (4 weeks post op today). Obviously I don’t know how the results are for me and this type of surgery but some of the reviews have really good results with it.

u/Snickerdoodleydoo · 2 pointsr/offmychest

I have scars from deep cuts I did when I was younger. They are one of my biggest regrets. While they are still healing clean with a gentle soap and water and use butterfly bandages to close the gaps. After they’re healed and don’t have scabs anymore use these. This will help prevent them from scarring like this. (don’t click if you don’t want to see scars.)

Also try getting her to talk to someone. Fixing herself is the only way she’ll stop.

u/Saga_I_Sig · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

To be honest, I only recommend the bio oil because I've heard good things about it. If there isn't science to back it up, then I would skip it, TBH.

What about doing something like applying silicone sheets at night, and taking them off in the morning? They are pricey, so I see where that could eat up a lot of money, but if you cut the strips to be shorter and narrower, the product would last longer.

As for gels, this one looks relatively inexpensive and is from a good brand. I haven't tried it myself - I've only used drugstore gels, and they were all more pricey than that, unfortunately.

If you're looking for something extra budget-friendly, here's a post from a couple years ago with promising results using silicone hair gel. :)

u/APestilentFuture · 2 pointsr/ftm

Consult with your doctor first, but i would focus more on caring for your scars for the long term than hiding them in the short term. Take care of the scars so they heal more thoroughly. Things like scar away work pretty dang well (but are expensive because of the size of top surgery scars.

Scar Away on Amazon

u/bpe9 · 2 pointsr/Accutane

They are silicon gel in sheet form (https://www.amazon.com/Cica-Care-Silicone-Sheeting-Sterile/dp/B000BZA9W8?th=1). I don't know much about them sorry and I haven't bought them yet because my pharmacy didn't have any, Im going to buy online soon. I think keloids can be permanent if not treated, but they can flatten and fade away with treatment.

u/withstrawberrygashes · 2 pointsr/MadeOfStyrofoam

It's mostly time that will fade them. However, my doctor said that a silicone scar gel like Dermatix will help the scar to become less red/purple and less raised as much as possible. I have always used it on my scars and I think it's helped. I haven't been impressed with the results of Bio Oil - it can help scars to be a little less tight/painful by keeping them moisturised, but it hasn't lead to any visual improvement for me.

However, rest assured that they will eventually fade and become less noticeable. I have a 9 inch scar down my arm that used to be dark purple and attract all kinds of comments. Now, four years later, it's all white and nobody even notices it half the time.

So this is a link to some on Amazon. I found some generic ones at the drugstore in the wound care isle for much cheaper. I don't remember the exact price but I can't imagine I would have paid more than $10. The box I have says they are washable and reusable for up to 7 straight days. Says it also works on acne scars, stretch marks and burns. I'm not sure about all that but it looks like it will at least keep that skin from folding over if you're worried about lines.

No, it won't do anything about the scars as all it does is reduce the oil coming out of your pores, which in turn prevents acne. I have heard that products such as Merdema can help with scars, but I have no experience with it, as I don't have any scarring.

I use cheap Wal-Mart knockoffs, but I'm definitely looking for better products. :)

Morning:

  • Baby wipes for face
  • Tone with Equate Rejuvenating Toner
  • Add Equate Repairing Lotion, let sit and absorb
  • Moisturize with Equate Naturally Beaming Daily Moisturizer
  • Let sit, use Monistat Anti-Chafing gel as a primer before starting my makeup routine.

    Night:

  • Cleanse, tone, and treat with Equate Acne Treatment system
  • Apply Clean & Clear's Dual Action Moisturizer and let sit
  • Add a few drops of Tarte's Maracuja Oil

I have a few issues I'd like to work with. My skin is very dry and has a few fine lines (under-eye and smile line) that I find my foundation to sink into at the end of the day. I also have pigmented acne scars that I'd like to fade. When can I put on Mederma's scar gel in my morning and night routines?

I'm considering starting with the AHA Enhanced Lotion 10% and using that at night. Where should I put that into my routine, and how long should I wait before the next product?

I'm considering purchasing the Freeman Dead Sea Minerals mask to use 1-2 times a week. Good idea for my skin? No?

I'm looking for a higher SPF moisturizer that won't leave a white cast on my NC40-42 skin.

Hand creams! I'm constantly washing and using my hands. My skin, nails and cuticles are so icky now. What can I try out that smells yummy/works well at a good price?

Currently looking for things I can purchase off Ulta or Amazon, but I'm open to anything!

A picture could be helpful, but does it look like post inflammatory erethmya to you? When you apply pressure to the area does the redness temporarily dissapear?

First daily sunscreen can prevent any more damage to the area while you try to treat it. PIE occurs when damage is done to the capillaries. Youtube Video by a dermatologist who works hands on to cure his patients redness If you don’t want to do anything that major the acne.org website has a really nice page talking about what at home treatment options tend to help their members. One of the treatments mentioned on the page are silicone sheets and I must say they seem like a popular choice I have seen quite a bit of anecdotal evidece else where online that these are very helpful. Example

u/Brockdog · 2 pointsr/acne

Your skincare routine looks pretty good. Looking at your pictures, it does appear that your acne had cleared up for the most part. I'd really advise against using accutane as it won't help your condition. The inflammation on your skin appear to be PIE, not PIH, so chemical exfoliants like BHA and AHAs will have limited effect. At this point in time, there are only two viable methods of treating PIE: vascular lasers (e.g. v-beam, pulse dyed lasers) and perhaps silicone sheets. According to anecdotal accounts, keeping your skin hydrated also seem to helped PIE fade faster. Outside of that, the only thing you can do is have patience and time.

u/HoldenB97 · 2 pointsr/morbidquestions

I used these on some scars on my neck and they worked pretty well. You basically put them over your scars like band-aids and the silicone on them fades and heals them. I only wore them for about a month, twelve hours a day and skipping some, but they made a pretty good difference on my scars.

u/lengthyounarther · 1 pointr/Uncircumcised_Forum

There are really effective things you can purchase at any Walmart or major pharmacy like Walgreens. There is a product called "scar away". Its basically like a reusable bandaid. The adhesive is gentle on your skin. Basically you place the middle of the tap over the opening tip of your foreskin with the two halves of the tape adhering to your skin. This will keep the skin from rolling back behind your glans, potentially even during an erection. Its usually around 15$ for a box of like 20 strips, but they are re useable if you wash them in warm water so that's enough for over a year. Here is what the box looks like on amazon, but you can buy it at any Walmart. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AJ4L1E?aaxitk=l7eRQzCWBi4tY285cEYgEQ&pd_rd_i=B001AJ4L1E&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=3507616222&pd_rd_wg=9N2dj&pf_rd_r=RFP8GRPH3AFQ3NVWPQ0J&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-top-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_w=pkzWJ&pf_rd_i=scar%2Baway&pd_rd_r=b1216953-4e3f-4684-a761-211ce56e9618&hsa_cr_id=3435781320701&th=1

Sometimes, the more stuff you use on your skin, the worse it reacts. I'd advise going to a trustworthy dermatologist. She may or may not put you on Accutane depending on how bad the acne is. Just stick to a cleansing-toning-moisturizing routine for now and give Mederma a shot for the acne scars. Ive heard great things about it. Also, dont stress too much! Just give it some time and follow your dermatologist's advice and hopefully, it'll help :)

Huh, that is really interesting! Thank you for sharing! I freaked out when I saw your comment b/c egg whites on burns is commonly recommended Internet advice, even for open wounds b/c it supposedly "blocks out air and bacteria". I was wary that you were recommending egg whites for open wounds. However, egg whites and yolks are common ingredients in DIY masks, although egg whites can sometimes be too drying/constricting. Glad your scar healed up well! Is the scar completely gone now?

Idk whether you have access to it, but I've used scar gel. Mederma is a popular choice but I got this. Used it on a few scrapes on a face and had a friend use it on a gash on her eyelid. Awesome results for both of us, the scars are utterly undetectable.

Mizon Black Snail All In One Cream

Hi everyone! I'm super new to this sub and just starting with AB.
Soon I will be starting Aczone, and I figured I'd put that between my current cleanser and moisturizer. After I get that incorporated into my routine, I wanted to try out the Mederma Advanced Scar Gel (for my acne scars and hyperpigmentation), but I'm not sure where that would go in the routine: before or after the moisturizer? Any opinion would be helpful, thank you!

They are just sticky by nature and washing them exposes the sticy silicone. I used Cica Care brand which is in Canada. I've also heard of ScarAway.

u/val319 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

First off i had to zoom in and look for it. It's really not noticeable. From someone who has scars on her arm from a fractured wrist, what you have will fade to almost nothing. If you feel like using something get medical grade silicone scar sheet. You would wear it at night and to bed. This is an example. Silicone Gel Sheets for Scars 4" x 4" Three Sheets Per Box; By Areza Medical https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NRG8FD8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_asQADbB4KCYJD you want the thicker material like that. Cut a peace to fit. Most are reusable. It will work better than cream. I've had a few surgeries and without anything that should fade to almost nothing without any silicone. Fyi you've got great skin!

I'm a big proponent silicone scar sheets/tape like these

https://www.amazon.com/ScarAway-Professional-Silicone-Treatment-Sheets/dp/B001AJ4L1E/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=hpc&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1466125709&sr=1-1&keywords=silicone+scar&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011

or the Nexcare brand ones, combined with daily use of vitamin E oil and sunscreen. (My husband was struck by a car a few years ago, I learned to deal with the surgical incisions, road rash, and other wounds from his surgeon)
I hope that helps!

u/TenaciousFeces · 1 pointr/tifu

Get a tube of scar-gel. It does better than the vitamin E alone.

MedermaPM has helped my SO with his scarring. Also wanted to add, that looks pretty bad-ass!

I knew a girl way back in the day who was attacked by a bear as a little girl, her face was badly scarred. And every single guy who knew her thought she was the sexiest thing they'd ever seen.

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your struggles with depression and self-harm.

If you want a long term solution for the scarring, I would recommend Silicone sheets. amazon.com/scar-away The silicone sheets will slowly fade the scars away but it will take time (a few months). I'm sorry that it wasn't really an answer to your question.

I think it's very brave of you for wanting to address this.

I don't have any advice that hasn't already been given, but there are products that can help fade your scars. There is also laser therapy if you have a greater budget.

Definitely look into the tattoo policy at your workplace and see if it would be allowed. If you're comfortable covering the tattoo, and it means so much to you, I don't see any reason not to get it. Just remember to see a tattooist who has worked around scar tissue before.

I think this stuff is really good for healing:
https://www.amazon.com/Scar-Shield-Prevention-Gel-Recommended/dp/B07BCP7R8X

It dries pretty quickly, so I put neosporin CREAM on top of it. (Repeat: neosporin CREAM not the ointment)
Also this stuff works well too:
https://www.amazon.com/Ecological-Formulas-Melazepam-Cream/dp/B001WUEJ4U

Also the ordinary niacinimide has helped my pores a lot.

You should always spot test new products to make sure they work for you.

A lot of people have had success with the oridinary’s salicylic acid, but it gave me chemical burns. So be careful.

Thanks for the suggestion (Mederma). I have currently been applying Aquaphor gel daily on the scar. Would you say Mederma is superior to that

I searched Mederma but I found they have a large variety of products and wanted to make sure I order the right product? Which one would you suggest?

You can check out some of my older posts. I had top surgery May 2013. I used something similar to this until it ran out about 3 months post op. I haven't done any scar treatment since except use sunscreen on the extremely rare occasions I'm shirtless outside.

[edited because I hit post before I was done typing -_- )

I was going to go to bed, but responding to you was nagging at me.

I have to be really honest with you, I only know bits and pieces of what you're going through, and I can only relate to about half of them.

This isn't meant to serve as actual medical advice, but it's what I would recommend in cases similar to yours.

There are medications out there that help with anxiety and depression, both, at once. If your doc is forcing you to choose a treatment, choose antidepressant. The reason that I say that is that the medical field focuses (or should) on treating the most severe symptoms first. Based on your writing about planning your suicide, I think your depression needs to be addressed yesterday. Better yet, several years ago.

Scars almost never stay as bad as they look right after an injury. If you haven't already looked, /r/skincareaddiction will be able to help you a lot with inexpensive, effective treatments. Here are my tips based on what you wrote, though.

If your scars are still somewhat new, see if you can get silicone sheets like these (that's just some random brand from amazon that I've never used; you can cut them to fit your scars) and wear them every night while you sleep.

If your scars are older but you think they might be manageable without lasers go to /r/SkincareAddiction and learn about peels and retinol. There is so much information (and people with more knowledge) over there than I can ever include about peels in one comment. Seriously.

If your scars are older or pitted you can look into laser scar removal if you've had the scars for several years and the sunblock and silicone hasn't worked for you. There are a few different types of laser treatments that are helpful, and a licensed esthetician (or the equivalent in your country) can help you make a decision about that. When I had my acne scars worked on, I think treatment was about $175 for both of my cheeks, plus some PIXEL (which helps with redness) around my nasolabial folds.

No matter what, and this is good advice for anyone ever Use sunblock every day, all the time. By protecting your scars from UV rays, you can slow or stop them from getting darker, which makes it easier for them to fade with time. If you want to, you may be able to use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream to help your scars blend into your natural skin tone without looking like you're "wearing makeup."

You need a new doctor. You need a new doctor so bad. No one can possibly expect the patient to direct their own care in the way that your doctor has. It sounds like he's either burnt out or doesn't give any shits about you. I'm concerned about his other patients, too. I can't imagine my doctor asking me a question like that, me not having an answer, and my doctor deciding to do nothing. For fuckssake. It sucks donkey tits that you have to deal with this.

Life gets better, if you do decide to stick it out. I was seriously contemplating suicide when I was 18/19 because I couldn't imagine how life could possibly get any worse, or any better. And then, with a lot of therapy and some meds, and finally finding friends outside of the shitty fishbowl I was raised in, life started getting better. And then it started getting good. Now I don't know if I could imagine a life any better than what I have, unless I won the lottery or something.

You've been dealt an exceptionally shitty hand, really. I hope you can find some happiness, if not relief.

I fell skiing and stopped myself with my face a couple of years ago. Got a pretty good scar on my fore head because of it. This stuff seemed to work well.

Ive been using this silicone gel patch on old scars and it seems to be working! My raised scars are flattening. Its been on for 3 weeks. The recommended use for old scars is 8 weeks.

Glad to hear it!

Try getting some scar gel. My ex used this brand for stretch marks after she was pregnant, I've used it on myself for scars I had as well.

I know CVS sells a generic that has all the same stuff.

u/GetOffMyLawn_ · 1 pointr/medical

There are special silicone bandages that supposedly help prevent scar formations. https://www.amazon.com/ScarAway-Professional-Silicone-Treatment-Packaging/dp/B001AJ4L1E

u/potator · 1 pointr/StopSelfHarm

Apparently the gels and creams do not work any better than petroleum jelly in clinical trials. The silicone sheets do work, though, but they're kind of a pain to use. There is a generic name for this type of scar covering, but I do not remember what it is.

Don't know much about these products but they were in best sellers and I'm wondering which one to buy. As for my skin, I have some acne scars left over from a few years ago and wanted a way to remove them or at least lighten them up. Which one of these would be the best buy for me and why?

I prefer the scar away long scar strips. I get them on Amazon for like $35 (12 in a pack). Cut them lengthwise and use one on each scar. You can reuse them usually like 4-5 times if you wash and dry them. They’re also good to keep your scars out of the sun for the first year post-op while still being shirtless.

"I thought at first I had just split my lip hahahaha"

I am really surprised you were still conscious. How many bones were broken in your face?

You've healed very well.

I was skeptic of anything on my scar but after using mederma and vitamin e for about 6 months instead of a puncture wound that it was on my cheek now girls say your dimple is adorable.

Here and you can read reviews as well. When is your final surgery?
