Yes, you are correct that it still illegal to ship live ant queens through the mail, or at least it's a grey area.

I actually had the exact same problem when I started in the hobby. I learned that I would have to capture my own queen and quickly gave up on the idea. The next year I was swimming early in the morning and saw a bug land in the water, then another, then another. I then found the forum formiculture.com and asked for help with identification. Sure enough they were all queens that had just mated mid flight and flown down to find a suitable spot for a founding chamber.

Since then I have found more queens than I can handle and I realized it's way easier than I had previously thought. Most of the time I'm not even looking.

If you are anywhere in the northern hemisphere, right now is most likely a perfect time to find queens.

Ants Canada has a ton of videos that can help you get started like this one. As you can see, he just walks around his neighborhood in the summer and finds them fairly easily.

I recommend using plastic pill bottles to collect them.

With all that being said, you absolutely can buy queens, you just can't ship them. Check out http://www.antscanada.com/queen-ants-for-sale/ Also ant forums (I prefer formiculture.com) usually have plenty of people selling queens locally all the time, or even selling/donating full colonies.

If you (or anyone else) has any more questions about the hobby, feel free to ask.

It’s an Oudin Coil. My old physics professor had one identical to it. I’ll try to find the model number on it this afternoon, I took a lot of measurements and specs from it when I was tasked with 3d printing various accessories for it. Either way, it’s a fairly expensive item and has been rebranded my multiple companies.

EDIT: Found it, looks like it’s actually called an Oudin Coil. Lots being sold b different companies, but all around $250. https://www.amazon.com/Oudin-Coil-Tesla-Safety-Switch/dp/B009P8CG8M

I think it is for light therapy.

I have a flashforge creator dual and my build plate was a little warped. I think the problem is the stock one is just too thin. Part of my problem I think was related to the plastic arms that support the build plate also warping at different bed temps, causing the warped bed. I switched to a maghold build plate and haven't had any problems since.
I had to get model A but I think your printer would need model C.
Here is the amazon link if you want to check it out.

Edit - you could check with a straight edge and a flashlight to check for the warp. I could see my warp just by getting eye level with the build plate.
Another thing you could check if the build plate turns out to actually be flat is taking off the x and y axis rods and rolling them on a flat surface to check for a bend. I would check x axis first because it is the longest and most likely to bend from the weight of the extruder.

How about $7.44 for one at Amazon

Or a pack of 5 for $10.38 also from Amazon

Edit: 48mm is a very odd diameter for a non-custom lens. You are much more likely to find 50mm, 100mm, 200mm.

Also focal lengths will be limited selection, but 100mm is easily found if that will work for you.

u/TaylorR137 · 3 pointsr/GoogleCardboard

The official cardboard lenses are 30mm biconvex lenses with a focal length of 45mm. If you cant see the edges of the screen (I cant) you could swap larger lenses with the same focal length to get a better field of view.

Maybe these would work? A cardboard shim might be needed since the focal length is 50mm.

Maybe try some robotics? At school in Germany we used the Asuro, found it on the US Amazon. Not the cheapest but maybe you find it cheaper myself. It's been devised originally by the German Aerospace centre but is now distributed by a company called arexx. I've also got a caterpillar robot from them if you don't want a robot on wheels.

For these robots you'll have to do some soldering, which might be a bit harder without the support if things go wrong. I did manage to assemble the caterpillar after the Asuro myself though.

u/UpbeatResolve · 2 pointsr/toys

Thank you. This led me to Randomly Oscillating Magnetic Pendulum (ROMP). It's an obscure toy from US. Looks good but it's not available in Europe. Still might order it.

Apart from this one I found nothing else. Just this one but doesn't swing in the same way.

So no choice whatsoever. From what I found at least.

u/Cats_are_liquids · 2 pointsr/DnDIY

Flash Forge Creator Pro. I had a lot of problems with it out of the box with clogging in the nozzles and things sticking to the build plate. After adding a metal hotend and magnetic build plate it has worked amazingly with no issues. I see the magnetic build plate is out of stock, so not sure where you can get those now, but being able to just flex the plate and have pieces pop right off is great.

How about a real octopus?

u/FalconX88 · 2 pointsr/Austria

In den USA ist es allerdings kein Problem solche Würfel in genau der Größe billig zu bekommen. https://www.amazon.com/United-Scientific-DCSET10-Density-Cubes/dp/B00ET6H38S

Ha! It's diaper gel! Neat! Same stuff Orbeez are made of. Cheap source of it, too. I'll keep it in mind when I'm putting together my hanging baskets next spring. What do you do with it after, though? You're not supposed to flush that stuff. Gums up the sewer lines.

Oh I will!!

Usually I just search for what I'm looking for specifically, like I'm into sea horses right now, and gather lists from that. I'm not into wet yet, even though I so so want to be. Once we have a bigger place and more money, I'll get my creepy room, just not yet. But currently I don't even have room for a creepy cabinet haha

But if you want real biological acrylic samples I highly suggest

I'm in the US and it's worth the hassle and extra shipping.

BUT if you're just getting started, honestly Amazon and etsy. Both have small and quality stuff.

You might want to play around with the new Google Voice and Vision kits.

Note the negative reviews are about the release delay (which doesn't matter because it's out now) and the price (which tells me the purchaser doesn't realize how cutting edge this is).

no but really tho

Edit: I didn’t buy it myself but I work with human remains and was looking for a specific picture, so when I couldn’t find it by searching “juvenile skeletal L5 vertebra” I decided surely there’s some sort of photo database for human remains, so I googled “real human bone pics” and found the amazon listings. Never did find the pic I wanted

I think what you're looking for is a "plastic vial"?
Maybe something like this

u/zealeus · 1 pointr/FTC

We borrowed mass cubes from the science department, which happen to fit perfectly inside tetrix channels. Tapped the cubes in there, and then tape the weighted channel inside the robot's actobotics channel. Somthing like this:

https://www.amazon.com/United-Scientific-DCSET10-Density-Cubes/dp/B00ET6H38S

To balance it? We center the robot on the balance stone. Then pull the robot close to an edge with the wheels near the other edge. If one end of the board touches the ground and the other doesn't, you know which side is heavier. It's not perfect, but cheap!

United Scientific LCV108 Glass Double Convex Lens, 100mm Diameter, 200mm Focal Length https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ES3U5LY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_M2B3Db4K713H0

I found this on Amazon with a simple google search. It looks like it’s 100mm in diameter, but this was my second result so a smaller one can’t be that hard to source. All planoconvex really means is that one side of the lens is flat and the other side is convex.

I think I was over complicating things. I ended up ordering this and this and I'll just see how it works

Why not a cast iron caldron? Hahaha, BREWWW.

Plus, just 'cause it's cool, this octopus.

OP left out some of the decent printers: [knockoff replicator 1 for half the price](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008CM2TCU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B008CM2TCU&linkCode=as2&tag=myhupa02-20">FlashForge 3D printer, dual extruder w/2 ABS spools</a><img src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=myhupa02-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B008CM2TCU) - Dual extruder, compatible with makerware, 5 star rating from 84 reviews and a decent build volume.

Afinia H series I'd personally put this in the "overpriced" category, but only marginally; it also has reasonable build quality, it's assembled and in general it doesn't suck.

Type A series 1 One of the best printers in the world. Seriously.

Disclaimer to keep the mods happy: I have a firefox addon that adds amazon affiliate codes. I can't be bothered to remove them.
I don't spam my website here, but if you buy these I'll make something like 4%.
Apparently this is a big deal.
