Well that's the thing, isn't it? How do you know that "literally all it is is a charger"?

All it takes is an unpatched physical connection exploit, and Eve has all your e-mails and passwords.

These days, almost every airport has free wifi, and we can make really fuckin' small wifi adapters; you can deploy a bunch of these to an airport lobby, and then remotely update them with all the latest and greatest in firmware hacks at your leisure.

TSA agents get caught stealing shit all the time; what makes you think the electricians who install these things in airports are above suspicion?

I don't think SD cards are too small.

I think the people who would need more than 500GB are in the minority, and that most people would be fine with that much. The PS4 and X1 both have 500GB HDDs and you don't see very many people complain that it's not enough and get a bigger one.

Hi Rukia - I just looked at one of your videos [here] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuZaS5PUW-E) and you need to work on your sound first. I would get an [inexpensive lapel mic] (http://www.amazon.com/Lavalier-External-Microphone-Designed-Recording/dp/B012Z698ZE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) and plug it into the camera.

The camera I suggest for you is a [$454.30 used Panasonic FZ300] (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-FZ300K-Megapixel-2-3-inch-Dustproof/dp/B011PKJI2Y/ref=sr_1_1?m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&s=merchant&ie=UTF8&qid=1464429061?tag=battleforthew-20).

The Panasonic FZ300 would be a good choice for you in this price class. It has a fully articulated (forward facing) screen so you can see yourself, up to 3840x2160p ("4K") resolution, a fast constant f2.8 zoom lens for low light and a 3.5mm mic input for your microphone.

Here it is in a vlogging setting (at 2160p and in French):

The super Talent drive is definitely one of the nicer ones out there. But it still has extra metal bits where the Apple one is ever-so-slightly thinner and sleeker.

I have one of the Apple drives that came with my MacBook Air and if it weren't "tied up" as a backup device I would love to keep one tucked in my wallet.

Instead I tend to use these which are not as pretty but even more versatile.

u/Stingray88 · 4 pointsr/Games

>I think from memory that class 10 cards can cause problems, which is what I had.

That's definitely not true. Class 10 is absolutely preferred over anything lower class. It's not the class that would cause problems… just the specific cards firmware itself. Being class 10 or not doesn't have anything to do with it.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I remember seeing a huge chart that listed SD card compatibility reports with all the different XBMC/Pi distros. Using that chart and my intentions, I decided to purchase this card. I've had zero incompatibilities with it.

u/jedinatt · 4 pointsr/3DS

Buy a 16GB or 32GB card and have everything on one. It's the only rational option. They're cheap. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Class-Memory-SF16UY-TQMN/dp/B00B7ID97A/

PNY SD cards are on sale

The cards arent anything special, and at only 95 mbps its probably insufficient for things like sports, or video. BUT i like having at least a 128 as a backup. Just in case I shoot a lot, it saves me from running out of storage.

u/SickSalamander · 4 pointsr/photography

This Lexar one is $88.99 https://www.amazon.com/Lexar-Professional-128GB-UHS-II-LSD128CRBNA1000/dp/B00PLENZPC/

But yeah, the standard sandisk extreme pro is still $200+

u/TheFonzDeLeon · 4 pointsr/GH5

I've been using this one: Sony Memory Card 128GB, UHS-II SD, CL10, U3, Max R260MB/s, W100MB/s

It works well for all bit rates, etc., the only caveat being is it won't allow dual simultaneous recording at the high rates. But if you're not recording redundantly, it works great.

u/ancientworldnow · 3 pointsr/backpacking

SDHC cards are readily available (and affordable) at 32GB and SDXC cards can be found for ~50 for 64GB with 128GB cards retailing a little north of $100. Most modern cameras are SDXC capable.

u/minimalillusions · 3 pointsr/gaming
u/BenjaminGeiger · 3 pointsr/photography

I'm in the habit of formatting my SD cards after every import, so a text file on the card is not particularly feasible. (Maybe that's a feature to suggest for Magic Lantern?) Instead, I just replace the existing label with a new, printed label containing my phone number and an address (my dad's).

If I ever lose a card, I don't really care about the card itself; 8GB cards go for about $7 on Amazon, or a bit more at a brick-and-mortar retailer if I need one in a hurry. I just want the images back.

u/Viscerae · 3 pointsr/CrazyIdeas

>not economically feasible

Holy crap, you weren't kidding. And that's WITH a $200 discount!

I still think the storage space is the least of your problems if you're trying to fit GC capability into such a small package.

EDIT: And GC games aren't 1GB a pop, they're more like ~1.3-1.4GB, so you'd need the full terabyte.

u/Skandranonsg · 3 pointsr/AskTechnology

What is this other device? The only way I could imagine this working is if you made the SD card a shared network drive and this other device was capable of that sort of thing.

As for a physical adapter, if the other device is USB capable, you can always toss it in an external card reader. That way you're plugging/unplugging the cable instead of the card itself.

One other option is This little doohickey that automatically syncs items on the SD card through WiFi to a PC.

u/achilles1515 · 3 pointsr/SSBM

At least 2 gig. If you are running the ISO off of an SD card, try to not use an off brand cheap one that may be really slow. Speed for an SD card is designated by its "Class". Class 10 being the fastest. I use this SD card, which a bit of overkill sizewise, but I can have multiple ISOs on it and it runs great.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Class-Memory-SF16UY-TQMN/dp/B00B7ID97A

u/ItsADanThing · 3 pointsr/photography

Those are the "burst speeds" not continuous write speeds. UHS-1 write speed is usually around 40-50 MB/s. But they are pretty cheap, the PNY cards are pretty highly rated and a 64 GB card is about $24 on amazon. UHS-3 cards are quite a bit more expensive but do offer 90+ MB/s write speeds. Sandisk sells a 64 GB card for about $80. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the camera is limited to 40 MB/s write so these probably wouldn't improve it any.

This chart shows max resolution cameras can record raw at. Only camera capable of 1080p at 24fps continuously is the 5DIII.

u/KhaosKat · 3 pointsr/buildapc

>Do you know if it is fast enough?

I don't, and I think there are better options.

One of the problems with going onto Reddit before I have my morning coffee is that my brain is only have half awake. The music, phone, video part registered in my brain, but the 4k part didn't (probably because my old phone can't even come close to that). Either of these two Samsung's would be better. The cheaper one has faster advertised write speeds.

Sony w/ the features you want, Panny with the features you want. Panny in your budget. This panny one is probably the only one at the price point with the features. It seemed kind of silly of you to be asking for a similar camera for less money and the g80 has only been out for 5 months, not quite long enough for many releases.

Just got Luma on my 11.1 o3DSXL no problem, using the guide. Now i just need to upgrade to a bigger SD card. Does anyone use the SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC + adapter on this model, or can recommend an alternative one compatible with the original, with full storage accessible.

u/thegreychampion · 3 pointsr/videography

Yes it will work continuously for 4K 150mbit but you'll only get about :20s of 400mbit, if you're doing mostly 150mbit but want to use 400mbit for short b-roll clips you'll be good. I used this Sony card for 400mbit and it worked fine continuously. Not a "V" card but works just the same

u/AnthonyWithNoH · 3 pointsr/videography

It's most likely a T3i like @noshirtyesservice said. This discussion comes up every so often, you can find the solution for it in this thread.

Basically you'll want to get a class 10 SDHC card, not SDXC. SDXC cards have a compatibility issue with the T3i that causes this overheating like error, so a lot of people assumed their cards are simply too slow or camera overheating. I'd recommend you get the Sandisk 32GB Extreme SDHC.... note that the 64GB version is SDXC.

Also, while you'll be much better off with this setup, you'll still experience your recording stopping once your video file hits 4GB (approx 12 minutes) on a T3i so either stop it and restart it at the right time or use magic lantern (can't speak for how reliable it is overall) to add a automatically restart recording feature.

I’m an amateur photographer and this happened to me once. That same evening I ordered three spare SD cards [3 for $30] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LORO7Z6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_RU2UDbK66K2R9). I have one in my bigger camera bag, one in my smaller bag, and one in a baggie in my wallet. The wallet one never leaves my pocket, as you’d imagine, so I’m always prepared.

u/shromkuc · 3 pointsr/guitarpedals

Do you just gotta get yourself an adapter. This one will do just fine for ya and it’s only like 7 USD. You do need a certain kind of SD card to make it work cause it has to handle the high speed data transfer for the looper. I bought these ones and they’re working great.

I put the links to download the firmware in the description of that video but just for ease of access for you (or anyone) here’s the Echosystem and Reverb. They have easy-to-follow instructions on there.

u/michaopin · 3 pointsr/RX100

I use only sandisk cards. For my M3 I have three cards from the Extreme edition from sandisk.
In 64 GByte.
64 GByte is many space. For video and pictures. If lost that's many data. If the card is more big.
More is possible lost.

I have the old edition with "only" 90 MB transfer rate.

u/bengineering101 · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

I think you'll have a hard time finding a kit that just includes an SD card and power supply. Most of the kits on Amazon include the Raspberry Pi itself. There's an Adafruit accessory kit that doesn't include the Pi, but has a case and a bunch of other stuff that it sounds like you don't want.

There are a bunch of options to buy individually though. Here are just a few:

  • SD cards, power supply and USB cable from Adafruit (note that they sell the wall adapter and cable separately, normally these are sold together)

  • SD card and power supply from Amazon.

If you are comfortable installing the operating system yourself (it's not that hard at all, just follow the directions here), it might be cheaper to just get a blank SD card, I'm not sure.

For the record I have this SD card and this power supply from Amazon and haven't had any issues. No guarantees that they're the cheapest/best options though.
u/Butch_Glitterface · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This sd card because I use my 3ds as a music player but there isn't enough space on the default card to put all the music I want to listen to on there.

u/Twentyhundred · 2 pointsr/pics

B please.. Even up to 2TB is out there, but the prices of that have to be bonkers. Thing is... 64GB is more than enough, no? I mean, that's a LOT of RAW pics.

u/I_am_a_mormon · 2 pointsr/Android

Wait, that SD card isn't over $600.. It's $522 on amazon right now.

u/actuallobster · 2 pointsr/CrappyDesign

I assure you that you have linux devices in your house.

I just found out I have an SD card that runs linux. This guy. Something like 95% of wireless routers run linux. Nearly all "smart" tv's or any tv that has a fancy interface of any sort runs linux. Tesla's cars run linux. It's really ubiquitous. You probably use it every day and don't know it.

u/skooter210 · 2 pointsr/technology

An alternate option might be this: Transcend 32 GB Wi-Fi SDHC Class 10 Memory Card (TS32GWSDHC10) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A659ILQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PHb1Cb58KGVX2

It’s a WiFi card, that once setup is able to transmit over WiFi to a computer instead of taking the card out at all. I don’t have a lot of experience with these, but I’ve heard ok reviews about them.

u/similardilemma · 2 pointsr/3DS

Busybox is actually used in a ton of places you might not expect. If you have a linux-based router, NAS, smart TV etc. they're probably using busybox, rather than GNU coreutils. Here is an SD card that has a built-in busybox/linux system with a wifi chip. Roku boxes use busybox. Busybox is everywhere. Android actually uses something called toolbox. Power users tend to supplement it with busybox, since toolbox doesn't do much. There are also entire (tiny embedded) linux distros that use busybox, since they keep their entire root filesystem in the initrd. On top of that, the majority of typical GNU/Linux distros actually use an initrd that uses a root filesystem that contains busybox, which does some initial setup on the system before doing a pivotroot to the real root filesystem (which uses GNU coreutils). This includes Debian (and Debian derivatives, such as Ubuntu), Red Hat and Fedora and their derivatives (such as CentOS), Gentoo, and Arch. Based on this, I'd say there are more instances of busybox out there then there are of GNU coreutils.

There aren't any complete replacements for GNU coreutils that I know of. The heirloom project was meant to be a replacement, but it hasn't seen much activity in a couple years. BSDs utils aren't that portable, from what I understand. Toybox is similar to busybox (small, single binary, basic functionality), but it doesn't have the dev community that busybox has. For a ton of use cases, however, busybox is more than enough, and much much smaller.

u/danschewy · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

u/blueman541 · 2 pointsr/fujifilm

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-64GB-SDXC-Memory-Card/dp/B00IVPU6BY/

These are good too. Write speed the the most important metric in these cards.

u/livinonnosleep · 2 pointsr/theNvidiaShield

The Samsung PRO series are the fastest around. Amazon Link. I can't find the post on XDA now but there was a member that was showing tests that this was actually faster than the internal memory. Played all games, including K1 optimized HL2 with no noticeable slow downs. So it's definitely doable.

u/funwok · 2 pointsr/photography

For 4k video you usually want as fast and large as you can afford. You just bought a ~800 bucks camera, don't skim on the memory card.

Generally the advertised speed of memory cards is the read speed, which isn't really a concern for you. More important is the write speed and cheaper cards often omit this value.

Good cards with high enough write speed while still being fairly priced are the Sandisk Extreme Pro series, or the Lexar Pro and last but not least the Samsung Pro. Take your pick!

Most of your money is going to be in SD cards, as you can get 5.5g iPod Videos for relatively cheap (parts or DOA), and they have the ever beloved Wolfson DAC in them. If you have a working logic board and screen, you're basically doing the price list above. Most everything except the click wheel gets replaced (and those are cheap as well).

The 1TB build is going to be considerably more, again, because 512GB SD cards are stupid expensive at the moment.

Cheap cameras won't be better. The lowest price you're looking for an improvement is a Panasonic FZ300 for $400. That gives you image stabilization, weather resistance for outdoors, 4K video, and a really large zoom range.

u/Gorden121 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

There are cheap fast 64gb MicroSD cards on the market if you fear you need more space. The one I'm currently using (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B013UDL58E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is now at around 25€ with UHS-I standard. MK8D is installed on it and runs smoothly without problems.

u/Sirtubb · 2 pointsr/GH5

this card, cheapest one around that I have found from what I would call a reputable company. Works on all recording modes and I personally or my friend who got the same card after I recommended it to him have never had any problems with it.

u/Iam8bitwolf · 2 pointsr/IpodClassic

iFixit's probably your best bet, you can find their guide here. They also have the best batteries for the job. If you're going for the dual, might I suggest two 128 gb SD cards? It might save you a bit of money, as 256 was until recently the largest capacity card. See 2nd edit. Doubly unfortunate is that this is notoriously the most difficult iPod to work on, so good luck.

Edit: here's a somewhat cheaper 256 gb SD card.

Edit 2: Per u/Redbird9346
It's actually very easy. This Apple Support page says the following about the iPod Classic introduced in 2007 (6th generation):

The last three characters of the serial number will be one of these: Y5N, YMU, YMV, or YMX.

As /u/FreakyWays already listed the serial number, and it ends with YMU, it's a 6th generation version.

Also notable: on the 6th generation iPods, the serial number is engraved on the back, on a line by itself.

Why though? How big your card? I can take over 1000 RAW photos on a 64GB card, so I can leave it in the camera if the images aren't super important.

Just buy another card it will cost you $20/£20 and you have solved the problem. The whole point of removable storage is that you can be flexible, so don't limit yourself.

Hm... this is a tough one for me. I'm usually the friend doing the pushing. I always want to go do stupid/fun things. XD

I probably wouldn't have gone on my longest hike yet, though, without a little help. My good friend planned out the route and it ended up being a 27 mile trek. I never would have planned anything that long for myself, at least not for a day hike (it took us 12 hours). But it turned out to be one of the best days of my life! :D

time to end boredom!! Thanks for the contest, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! <3

EDIT: OH I FORGOT TO LINK AN ITEM HANG ON XD

Okay I think I'd like to have this SD card off my Semi-Practical list if I win. I need to finally start taking photos of all the fun crazy things Hawaii has to offer!

u/jurbaniak28 · 1 pointr/snowboarding

I have the GoPro HD Hero 2 outdoors edition, this edition will come with a lot of what you need, like sticky mounts to mount to your helmet. You will need to get an SD card because GoPros do not come with them, i went on amazon and bought a 32 GB one, http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-32GB-Flash-Memory-SDSDB-032G-B35/dp/B002G12OBO/ref=pd_cp_e_2 there's the link for that. 32 GB is the biggest it will take and i recommend getting that, because with that the battery will die before you run out of space. Another accessorie i suggest getting is a pole mount from www.gopole.com this is the classic mount for snowboarding, it allows you to film yourself or turn it around and film friends to make those nice edits. If you are debating between HD Hero and Hero 2 go with Hero 2, its a little more but its worth it for the quality of the video, I got mine discounted on amazon http://www.amazon.com/GoPro-HD-HERO2-Outdoor-Edition/dp/B005WY3TI4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346967661&sr=8-1&keywords=gopro+2

Are you sure you are not just trying to insert it in the wrong way?

Could you provide pictures of the system and card? In the regular old 3DS, 3DS XL & 2DS you don't have to remove anything to fit an SD Card, as long as it is the correct type

If it is fighting you, most probably you just have to turn it 180 degrees and try again.

Only the "new" models, meaning, new nintendo 3ds, new nintendo 3ds xl & new nintendo 2ds hide the sd card slot inside the back plate and you have to remove it with a number 0 screwdriver; but that doesn't sound like its the case for you.

My suggestion:

Get the Acer C7 Chromebook for $199.00.

Then buy an SD card for less than $10.

Finally, go to this website that specializes in turning a raspberry pi into an emulation station. There's instructions on how to turn the SD card into the emulation station on there.

You should be able to use that WITH the chromebook for everything you've said you want. Brand new awesome chromebook and an all in one emulation system for less than $210.

REDDIT: If anything I've said is wrong or doesn't/won't actually work, please reply and tell us. I recently made myself a raspberry pi SNES using the linked website. I assume the same will work, but I'm not a linux pro. Any info (confirming or denying what I said) would be greatly appreciated.

Good Guide. There are definitely some things in your guide I want for myself. I have the Canon t2i. I would just upgrade the SD card to something with a class 6 or better rating like this only because the t2i can't record video if the SD card is slow. The manual recommends class 6 or better.

This one? I ask because I had some problems early on with memory cards not being fast enough. The 95mb/s ones were the only ones I could get to work. That being said, don't give up hope, because that was a while ago. Blackmagic recently released an update that unlocks ProRes 422, LT, and Proxy recording, so it might work perfectly fine if you take it down a notch from ProRes HQ. You can tell if the card is not fast enough because it will either not recognize the card at all, even if it's formatted correctly, or the REC indicator will start flashing while you're recording. That means it has dropped a frame.

I use this SD card but that SanDisk looks nice! Thanks for showing me that.. might have to order one in addition to the SD card! One thing that is a bit annoying is that ChromeOS occasionally pops a warning that you unsafely unmounted your SD card on deep sleep. It should be resolved sooner or later so no worries I suppose.

Just out of interest, why not invest $70 in a 200gb microSD card (or $200 in a 512gb SD card and a microSD-SD cable if your wallet is limitless) and skip the HDD altogether? Lowers power consumption by a large amount and lowers the complexity and footprint and increases durability by removing the moving parts.

Also here's this chart about SD card compatibility with RPis

Also for syncing music I'm sure you can run an FTP server on the Pi0W and use that to synchronize music. Or if you're using a large microSD card you use the OTG port in gadget mode and set it up to let your Pi act as a USB drive (http://blog.gbaman.info/?p=699 and http://blog.gbaman.info/?p=791 though you'll need to find tutorials specifically for g_mass_storage/g_acm_ms/g_multi. Could be lots of fun if you use g_multi for g_ether and g_mass_storage and rig something up to automatically download more music when connected to your laptop. ^Though ^I ^guess ^that ^could ^also ^be ^done ^over ^WiFi... ^^nvm ^^then

u/Frigzy · 1 pointr/videography

First post here, I've basicly spent the last couple of days researching/buying gear around your price point. I already possessed a Zoom H1, but since you can use your phone for that purpose, I'd say we're about in the same boat.

I'd personally recommend you to check out four primary options. If the newest model is too pricey, it might be worthwhile to check out the older versions.

  1. Panasonic FZ300: Great Zoom, 4k video at the lowest possible price point afaik, great usability, decent stabilization, external mic input, flipable screen in all directions, decent built in mic, DSLR.
    Downside: Bulky.
Honestly, I'm confident that this is probably the best camera out there for video right now, at least at its price point. However, if portability is a must, this one simply doesn't cut it.
  2. Panasonic G7: Similar deal to the FZ300. I didn't find too many differences overall though. 4K, external mic, decent stabilization etc. Less zoom capabilities though. Also, it is more compact than the FZ300. It's a mirrorless camera, but it's also a bit more pricey than the FZ300. If size is a factor, this is a better choice. Also stills will be better with this one.
  3. Sony RX100 ii: Great camera which does everything you wouldn't expect from this size. Very good image and video quality for its price point and unbeatable portability. However, no interchangeable lenses and due to its size, lacking duration on video due to overheating hazards. If you're looking to shoot for extended periods, the larger the better and panasonic is definitely your go-to. However if you prefer ease of use and a compact feel. This is the way to go.
  4. Sony A5100: My personal choice at the end of the day. It's a very similar story to the RX100ii, but as opposed to the RX, this one has all the latest from sony. Massive sensor which means great low light performance and overall very high quality footage. New XAVC S codec for higher quality video. Both of these at a reasonable price point while enabling the use of interchangable lenses. Also, I just think this baby is way more charming than the RX series. However, it's definitely known to overheat over longer duration video shooting, it has no external mic input, no in built stabilization, no EVF and no shoe to mount stuff on. I didn't find these to be capable of weighing up to its potential though, especially with a pancake lens. I've got great portability, one of the best low light and video cameras at the price point. I actually figured out that I can bypass all of the problems it faces by buying myself an external recording device. Sure, this costs as much as the camera itself, but the benefits the camera offers are unbeatable at the price point, and if I enjoy myself enough up to a point where I want to invest more, I can just remove all the negatives and stay at the top in terms of quality AND portability, since the external recorder is equally portable.

I haven't gone over the full details for all of them, but if any of them interest you in particular, just find some reviews and you'll get a good idea of what they're all about. Also, some are a bit over your budget, but I don't know how tight your finances are so I figured I'd just give you my take.

Lastly, definitely don't forget audio as mentioned in the thread already. A lav mic will get your far since you can use it with the panasonics or your phone.

Hope this has been more than just a rant. Good luck!

Yes, the X-T100 is an excellent camera. The entire Fujifilm Eco-system in general is great and a good investment.

SD cards, be sure to get something faster, don't need to get top of the line but the bottom tier cards are very slow. This one will be perfect, adequately fast and easily large enough.

Why? Will you not have access to a camera store/internet wherever you're going? Buying stuff as you need it would certainly be preferable to loading up on stuff you may never need/use.

A spare battery or 2 is a MUST for me. I'm not sure what you mean by which extra SD card....the answer to that is whichever one you like in whatever capacity you want. If you're shooting events you should utilize the dual card slots in the 750 and use one as a backup. A pair of these will get you about 1800-2000 shots in backup mode or double that in overflow. If you're doing landscapes you will want a sturdy tripod.

I followed the guide, formatted my 64GB SD card as FAT32 using guiformat.exe, and put all the files on that SD card.

However, upon using the browser exploit, the text "SD mount failed. Please insert a FAT32 formatted sd card." comes up instead of the homebrew launcher.

The SD card I used is a SanDisk Extreme SDXC 64GB, and my Wii U was bought at launch - the black 32GB version.

Am I doing something wrong?

You expect the general consumer to know the difference or would be willing to pay the premium for faster memory? As it is, flash memory is more expensive per GB than magnetic disc storage. To get one of those high-speed SD card cost ~$30 for 64GB where you can a 2TB hard drive for $80. I should mention that at 120MB/s, that Seagate is pretty comparable to the UHSII SD card. This is the PS Vita all over again.
