Paintball gun armed with paintballs loaded with pepper spray.

EDIT: holy shit you can actually buy these things on Amazon.

If you get pepper spray get a gel or foam. Also spray it once so you can smell it and see how it works. The last thing you want is to get everyone with it or get yourself.

Also there is different strengths, just because they say "police style" or some crap doesnt mean anything. There are some serious differences.

My wife likes the saber 3in1 gel

I don't know about local laws in Chicago, but there's no federal law against carrying the same mace or pepper spray used by police. I carry, legally and without permits, this exact police pepper spray every day. Anyone can, just be damn sure to research your state and local laws.

u/nistjunkie · 15 pointsr/sandiego

They should be thankful I wasn't there. I carry a fire extinguisher sized bottle of pepper spray in my car spray for road ragers. It would've cleared those UCSD morons off the freeway pretty fast with some to spare. Fox Labs is some pretty wicked sh*t!

Are any or all of these items authorized for use on campus?

Choose defense options wisely, lest you get yourself into trouble for just possessing these items.

> a spy camera, such as sunglasses with a camera, so I could use the video recording as evidence in court, if it ever came down to that

Be careful with audio recordings. This might not be legal in many states.

Also be careful with using such an overt security device that you cause concern among others. I mean, a person walking around wearing an obvious surveillance cam will cause discussion.

> pocket knife of some sort

A knife is a terrible DEFENSIVE weapon.

> one of those alarm keychains

<shrug> ok, I guess.
But, as most any defensive instructor will tell you, you should be yelling at an attacker to attract attention.

> good pepper spray

This is a much better DEFENSIVE weapon, and is what your hands should be focusing on instead of an alarm.

SABRE 3-in-1 Pepper Spray is the way to go.

> stun gun/pocket size (they’re legal in my state)

But, are they legal on campus?

IMO: Stick with pepper spray. You don't want to fumble about with too many defensive weapons.

> some steel toed boots or shoes

Oh, just stop.
Steel Toed Boots are generally quite uncomfortable, and DEFENSIVELY, your better option is to run AWAY from the threat and TOWARDS a crowd.

> a gun of course, which my dad knows a lot about, so I can just ask him about it

Firearms are prohibited on almost all university campuses in the US.

Almost every single concealed carry class in the US will tell you that on the day you put your concealed carry permit into your wallet, right next to it should be the business card for a firearms-law specialist attorney to represent you in the event you ever have to use your weapon, or if you are arrested for possessing said weapon somewhere you should not possess it.

Did you know it's unlawful to possess your concealed carry weapon in an establishment that sells alcohol in most states?

You can be arrested and charged just for standing in the wrong spot, or meeting in the wrong place for a study group with a concealed weapon.

If your campus allows for lawful carry, then by all means exercise your legal right.
But make damned sure you fully understand the restrictions of said legal right, or you may go to jail.

-----

Honest, no bullshit advice:

This sounds like a subject that seriously concerns you.
That's fine. Your safety is important.

Go to campus and visit with campus police or security.
Meet face to face with the chief of department, or Sergeant of the Watch shift and talk about campus safety.

Most campuses have smartphone apps to summon an escort to walk you from building to building.
Many campuses have free shuttles to drive you from place to place.

ASK the patrol officers where should you avoid.

Repeat this same conversation with the security team at the Bus Transfer station.
That guy behind the glass has seen some shit, I assure you.
But, I'd wager most of the crazy happens on Saturday nights.

Sabre 3-in-1 spray is great stuff - small enough to carry in a pocket and has a good range for its size.

As others mentioned, some form of empty hand self defense training is also highly recommended.

Personally, contact weapons (stun guns, knives...) would not be my first recommendation.

u/thisisausername83290 · 9 pointsr/FrugalFemaleFashion

I am so so sorry to hear that happened to you. I really liked the one in the link below because it came with a practice canister, which made me feel much more confident about using it. Sending you good wishes!

My recommendation

Although I'd strongly recommend against keeping mace on hand to deal with an unstable employee. First off, whatever you get will create a mist that will harm anyone else the room to varying degrees. So be prepared to be on the hook for any resulting injuries that will cause.

Second, if you miss, or if the individual isn't overly effected, you just waved a red flag at a bull and it will charge you.

If they're so unstable that you feel unsafe, find out who you can talk to get them removed.

Waiting to get attacked and attacking back means you're planning on fighting an employee. There are relatively few ways to fight someone at work and have it not cause lasting harm to your career.

u/FinickyPenance · 5 pointsr/CCW

Don't judge me for this...

The guy who does Active Self Protection's videos posted this on Amazon. It is an aerosol pepper spray grenade. If you're really worried about shit like this happening, or some sort of social unrest, or whatever, buy one and stick it in your briefcase.

u/jb0n · 5 pointsr/AskSF

Agreed. My wife had similar concerns (spraying yourself, or others). I looked into it a little and we ended up getting her this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004NKSPXC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1469676663&sr=8-3&pi=SL75_QL70&keywords=pepper+gel
The gel aspect is designed to work better in windy environments. It might not be ideal, but it's better than actual spray.

u/f6952d6eef555ddd87ac · 5 pointsr/SeattleWA

Just to add: if it’s your first time, you can buy spray with a training kit so that you’re prepared in case you have to use it.

u/usafboot · 4 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

On the topic of self-defense and pepper spray:

  • Please please please do NOT take a "sport" martial art for actual self-defense, like your typical karate or TKD classes. Take something that has been PROVEN such as Krav Maga, which is an Israeli military martial art. It does not require you to have a gymnast's flexibility, and it concentrates more on application than technique, whereas your normal karate, tae kwon do, or kung fu classes stress on getting the technique and form right over anything else. If you can't find a Krav Maga training facility in your vicinity, look for Sambo (Russian) or Brazilian Jujitsu as an alternative.

  • When it comes to buying pepper spray, a lot of brands out there are JUNK, especially those that claim their product is the best purely due to the concentration of OC in the product. However, the main factor in determining which type of pepper spray is effective is the rated "hotness" unit in millions of SHU. I carried a Fox Labs pepper spray container while I was in college (http://www.amazon.com/Labs-Defense-Spray--Flip-Stream/dp/B002S5110I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331568475&sr=8-2). Check out the reviews on it.

  • Legal restrictions by state for pepper spray can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper_spray#North_America

  • Do not carry a stun gun. The ones where you have to stick it to someone to shock him has just that as it's main disadvantage: It requires contact to use. Tasers are too expensive and are only good for 1 shot, and for the price of one, you're better off getting a state concealed handgun license and carry a compact pistol with you.
u/PrincessAloria · 4 pointsr/RandomKindness

This Pepper Spray on my - Wishlist - would be really nice, considering my neighbor is currently stalking me to the point I am afraid to leave my house until I can get to Houston. This would give me some more courage to check my mail and go grocery shopping.
Also pigfarts are smelly!

u/greyservitor · 3 pointsr/asianamerican

I agree with ZOOMj. In addition, any training classes worth their salt will also include a bloc of instruction of when and where legal grounds for self-defense can be established, as well as how to contact the police and deal with them afterward. It could make the difference between coming out like Jarred Ha or ending up in prison and becoming a talking point for gun control advocates.

You may know this already, but don't bother with the 'stun guns' often seen at pawn shops and the like. Taser is an actual brand name and while models like the C2 and newer Pulse don't quite function the same as law enforcement models like the X26, I've been hit with the C2 and it pretty much laid me out like the X26.

I'd also recommend buying extra cartridges and some OC spray. If you do, then sure you buy an extra can and at the very least spray some on a cloth to rub on your face (if not having someone just flat out spray you from the safe minimum distance) because there is a great chance you will get some on you in the unlikelihood you have to use it.

This is the brand I have had previous experience with. I keep a can in my lunch bag (lol) since I'm guaranteed to be have it going back to my car after work.

u/NoeWalfred · 3 pointsr/worldbuilding

Thermal goggles and gunsights are going to be much cheaper and have more investment rather than mixed gen 2-3 nightvision with thermal highlights. Currently the gun mounted style costs between 300-4000 USD on average. So likely you'll see some general budget models for around 50 or so. Coupled with rising gun ownership.

Rather than booby trapping people will probably as a whole design their homes with more doors and locks. Probably with better locks, better doors, and better windows potentially with bars for security. I also imagine products such as these:

https://www.amazon.com/SABRE-DEFENSE-INDUSTRIES-AEROSOL-GRENADE/dp/B005KW5NIW/

will be more available and common.

u/rocketsocks · 3 pointsr/bicycling

Being attacked is super unlikely, besides which you're on a bike, which is about the best method of getting away possible. If you're concerned, carry a pocket pepper spray.

Mostly you'll need lights and weather gear. A nice bright blinking rear red light and a decently bright front head light for seeing where you're going. Keep the front light tilted down a little so it's not shining in people's eyes as you pass them. I have a rechargeable aa/aaa system already (eneloops and a decent charger) so I use aaa powered lights (which also makes it easy to carry spares), but there are lots of good li-ion powered lights that you can charge via USB while sleeping.

Weather gear wise I'd suggest some rain pants and a rain jacket, my preference is marmot precip for both (the pants zip down the side so you can put them over anything easily) but those are kind of spendy. You can find suitable stuff for cheap at walmart or most determent stores in the outdoors section. Make sure to get velcro ankle ties to keep your pants legs out of moving bike parts.

Once you get the hang of it it's really not that big a deal, there's usually much less traffic (and humans) out at night so it can sometimes be safer.

I live on 4th and Blanchard, My girlfriend is consistently hit on by sketchy black guys whenever she walks around who are VERY forward. She doesn't feel the safest walking around, so I just bought her a [Mace Gun] (http://www.amazon.com/Mace-Pepper-Gun-Mat-Strobe/dp/B006VK6Y5I) - which is exactly what it sounds like, Mace that is shaped like a gun. It has a disorienting strobe on it as well as dye in the mace to mark the perp.
I'd recommend it to anyone that doesn't feel comfortable with a gun, but still wants to scare someone enough for them to think it's one. Or concerned boyfriends/husbands like me.

Try this: http://www.amazon.com/Mace-Pepper-Spray-Gun-Blue/dp/B002E6X4OW

You want to watch for mist formed pepper sprays because there can be blowback and affect the victim. The mace gun can fire up to 25 ft, which is another huge plus. You don't want her to have to get within grabbing distance to spray, because the assailant can easily lunge forward and hit the spray out of her hand. The intimidation factor of a gun is also a deterrent.

u/ablanchard17 · 3 pointsr/CCW

Good point. But that is exactly why Sabre Red foam is so good/cool.

It comes out as foam, flies through the air as foam. But almost instantly after hitting something it turns into a thick oily liquid.

Check this out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhZvvR1Xx-w

The only reason he was able to last until 0:26 is that he had his eyes closed. The moment he opened his eyes he was overcome with pain. In a more likely defense scenario an attacker would be instantly stunned and overpowered with pain ( pause at 0:11 for pure, unadulterated nasty ) If you tried wiping it off you would just smear it and probably make it worse.

If anyone is interested in acquiring this stuff

http://www.amazon.com/SABRE-Police-Strength-Pepper-Spray/dp/B002UD5HJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368160885&sr=8-1&keywords=pepper+foam

That includes 1 of the larger foam units.

and a smaller "conventional" unit that sprays a liquid.

Agreed; a riot-grade Fox Labs one pounder only costs around 45 bucks, and has a don't-fuck-with-this quality missing from some of the smaller canisters.

I have a very small one on my keys, it's pretty inconspicuous and I like that it's not all in your face. I got in on Amazon.

The one I keep in my purse is larger and pink so I can get to it easily. It's something so easy to carry and gives me peace of mind.

u/crazyguyonabike · 2 pointsr/CCW

I've chatted with the guy who runs Fox Labs (surprisingly, when I called them to ask a question it was the owner of the company that picked up). He told me that the only reason for the expiration is that over time, the cans may slowly lose pressure. Not always, but just it could happen, so they say three years just to cover that possibility. I actually have had cans of Fox Labs from circa 2007, which were just like new when I finally shot them off. The Fox Labs owner told me that the liquid itself doesn't degrade over time, the expiration is just about possible depressurization over time. I do change them out after three years, but I also either use old ones for training, or else I keep them aside as backups. In my experience they are good for way longer than three years.

I also really like their 1 lb pepper spray:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZA6D6C/

I have a couple of these for home defense, and more in the car. I am somewhat torn between the fogger and stream, though - I can see benefits and downsides with both (fogger - easier to aim, but not as much range and more susceptible to wind, whereas stream is more accurate, less prone to wind sheer and gassing everything in the vacinity). Here's the 1 lb stream:

My short answer and best advice to you is:

Do not put yourself in a situation you can not comfortably get out of. Do not put yourself in a situation that can or will likely lead to a situation you can not comfortably get out of.

My long answer for posterity:

"Safe" is a relative term, something that is safe for me may not be safe for you. Austin has had a lot of issues lately with violence and sexual assault, In this context I would ask yourself the following:

  1. Are you trained and comfortable with situational awareness as well as self defense?

  2. Are you familiar with the layout of your destination and have you done a quick mental risk assessment of its different areas?

  3. Will you look like an easy target?

If you cant confidently say yes, yes, no to those questions why take the risk? Just go to the gym, hit the trails during the day with light and heavier foot traffic.

Lastly as for the taser recommendation, its not the worst suggestion but not the best imo. If they are close enough for you to taze you are already in deep shit and behind the 8 ball. Get a long throw pepper spray Do not let someone who makes you uncomfortable and wont leave you alone within reaching distance, spray them and beat feat to safety. You can carry the taser as a last ditch backup. In fact they sell combo taser / flashlights so you can kill two birds with one stone. Vipertek VTS-T03

Just my 2 cents on your question.

I occasionally carry pepper spray like this. But thankfully people are generally pretty good about following the law and keeping their dogs leashed here.

Excellent reviews (4.5 stars),including:

"As my Marine Corps boot camp Drill Instructor constantly pounded in our heads before going to Vietnam, " To be aware is to be alive." In these most troubled times this product is a must for first line of defense.. Easy to use, Effective, Get tm before they get you... Do not touch eyes just after using as you may cause similar effects and Stay upwind !"

Which reminds me of the all-time number one self defense tool:

Situational Awareness

Know it, practice it

"To be aware is to be alive."

My other biggest recommendation:

Glock model 43 sub-compact 9 mm pistol + training + permit (where required)

I realize this is a pricey option, but if you're talking serious self-defense, this is part of the answer. TRAINING & PRACTICE ARE IMPERATIVE

or other model… The 43 is the most popular for concealed carry because it is very small and light, yet is every bit a serious weapon

I'm a pretty big guy, but I've moved a lot and I know very well the unsettling feeling of being alone in a new place. Do trust that it gets better with time, but in the meantime, try listening to tv or NPR or something. You can even leave it on in another room when going to bed. NPR is nice because it's very even toned and unlike TV, you won't have some B movie come on in the middle of night with explosions and screaming noises.

Use security bars on windows (not like bars over the windows, but bars to keep them shut, the little dinky window locks can be broken without too much force). If the doors have deadbolts, use them. If they don't ask to have them installed. Buy a big can of high-end pepper spray, like this one. If you're comfortable with guns, get one. If you aren't, don't, unless you are really willing to take the time to learn to clean, maintain, and use them safely. It's a big responsibility. Shotguns are nice, dependable, relatively inexpensive, and easy to use. They are also less likely to overpenetrate than rifle or pistol rounds. And they will stop pretty much anyone in their tracks.

Also, even if you can't install a security system (although if you're willing to pay for it, your landlord would likely have no issue with it), you can buy vibration sensors for windows and the like. They run around $20, run on batteries, and can be found at hardware stores like home depot.

In the end, you're probably being a little too paranoid, but that's normal, and it gets better.

also like it was said change your daily routes. you can never be too careful

u/K3R3G3 · 2 pointsr/philadelphia

It's always a possibility. But without wind going your way and if you're aiming it away from yourself, you're almost certainly going to be good. You'd be using it in a situation where you're in danger, so the risk of 95% going to him and maybe 5% to you is very worth it. Even if a small amount 'gets you', you'll probably be fine, slightly irritated, while he's doubled over hacking up a lung and eyes pouring tears.

That said, if you're still uneasy about it, the same brand I recommend does have a PepperGel variety now for this specific purpose. It's thicker, a gel instead of a liquid, to prevent "blowback." I got a friend this one a couple months ago, it's also got a sweet hand strap if you're jogging or whatever. I definitely recommend this one.

One more thing, if you're in a car and can drive away, you probably should do just that and head to a police station. Unless the spray is necessary right at that moment, like if you're boxed in or he's reached in your window and turned off your engine (happened to my mom and her friend when they were like 19/20.)

Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Rather buy one of those, useful combined with running away and spraying backwards. Empty the thing in his direction. http://www.amazon.com/Magnum-Locking-Advanced-Formulation-Defense/dp/B0007VHXLG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398674593&sr=8-1&keywords=cs+gas
If not at hand, go for eyes, throat, and balls, be loud. 80% will stop at this point, the other 20% you're pretty much invited to mutilate them as much as you can, cause they're the experienced ones.
And remember: running is always the first option. Especially when weapons are involved.

I usually don't write a comment when someone has written almost exactly what I was going to write, as I was with this comment, but I'd add that I got one of these from Amazon. It has a little clip, so that I don't have to take it where I know for sure I'm going to be safe -- all I have on the keychain at that point is the little clip.

Then when I go anywhere else, I take the pepper spray out of my purse and clip it to my keys. I don't know if it makes me safe but I can say it makes me feel safer.

BTW I'm trying to get my (cis) gf to carry one too just for her own protection. She says she will but she hasn't yet.

u/Erotidua_Oize · 1 pointr/EDC

Keep in mind, most pepper sprays only have an effective range of about 5 feet. I agree with you on the range subject, but I think it would be a little safer to invest in a mace gun, like this one. It has an effective range of 20 feet.

This bad boy. 35 hits, 10 foot range (some will have longer ranges), small enough to carry in a back pocket or small purse pocket. I carry mine in my back pocket whenever I go walking. I'm more worried about loose dogs though (also a good reason to carry it). I personally prefer the one with the key ring.

Collapsable batons are also possible, but they're bulky, can be hard to handle in a fight, and can get lost in a purse. The most important thing to understand is that your weapon can always be used against you. Batons are wicked numbers, because they have physics on their side. The collapsible component adds even more energy than a regular baton/stick, because of the velocity factor in the same way a police door buster often has moving components (sometimes inside itself)

The one, real goal in a confrontation is escape, not escalation. That's why I like the spray. It's long range (6 ft is enough time for an attacker run up to someone and stab them), non-lethal, and surprising. If you or her use it, it WILL get in your eyes through blowback. However, you personally will be expecting it and your attacker will not. When they are writhing in the ground in pain, she will be writhing too, but also escaping as fast as she can.

Tip: Don't attach your spray to your keys. You don't want your keys to get lost in a fight OR become police evidence. Keys can also be used as a weapon, but that's really a last resort.

u/nedonedonedo · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

LPT: bats are slow weapons and are too long for the confined space of a home. if you're not strong enough to swing a bat faster than someone can take a single step outside of the bats effective range then you shouldn't be using it (everyone). ether buy/use a actual weapon that is designed to be used on people if you know how to use it, or hold your breath and close your eyes and use a pepper spray bomb since you probably have your home memorized better than someone who just broke in

It's difficult to trust anybody--most attacks are completely impulsive and lack any real plan, which can be the most dangerous. Find a decent running club, if possible, to find some good running friends. I would also recommend pepper spray. They're super cheap--I had my wife physical use one so she was familiar with how it operated (not on me of course).

u/yeahThatJustHappend · 1 pointr/longbeach

Also, pepper spray is cheap, will put down anyone no matter the size, blinds them, can be shot 10 feet from target, and is non-lethal so more likely for you to use it, and they're tagged for police to identify (some include blue or black-light visible ink as well). Since they're blind and on the ground in pain you have more than enough time to get away and get police. Like anything else though, that's if you get the shot off first and they don't have a firearm.

Keep the foam one in your car or home where you can easily grab it.

They have these pepper spray balls on Amazon. Could use the CAM870 for home defense too.

I'd actually suggest one of a mace bracelet--it's less obvious and awkward than having a whole bottle full of mace up your sleeve.

Bear spray or Pepper spray. A dose of this may well have disabled the creep until the police could wrap him up and totally remove the issue, and him.

I sleep with this, and this, and this, and one more thing if for some reason I ever need it in my closet.

You can actually get some good knives and pepper spray on Amazon. For knives I prefer Benchmade. I suggest you look at the Griptillian. I beat the shit out of my EDC knives and none of my Benchmades have ever let me down

For a HD shotgun, I suggest you keep things simple and effective. Buy a shotgun with a real stock, no pistol grip only bullshit with an 18-20" barrel and at least 5+1 capacity. Load it with No. 1 buck or 00 buck. Add a side saddle and load it with 2 or 3 round of buck and 2 or 3 slugs (slugs add a huge amount of versatility to your shotgun for no penalty). Add a good sling (mainly for weapon retention purposes) and maybe a light. Thats it.

Hi there - I'm a huge advocate of self defense. Every day I carry this exact product:

http://www.amazon.com/Sabre-Defense-Spray-Ring-Unit/dp/B0009UZMVI/

$8 including shipping.

It also comes in Pink.

I highly recommend the SabreRed products; they have a higher capacity and spray a thicker goo on to the target; plus it stains clothing with a red and UV marker.

I would also recommend you supplement this with either A) the ability to run away quickly, B) another defense tool. (A bike makes a great defense tool, BTW).

Also; you could purchase a C-2 Taser - this is fairly expensive ($350+); but it's a great self-defense option, especially if you're unwilling to carry a firearm. Basically you deploy it, drop it, and run away. It's very similar to what the cops use; except it "bursts" for 30-seconds.

http://www.amazon.com/SABRE-RED-Pepper-Spray-Protection/dp/B002UD5HJO/

Test this somewhere! Try spraying it at small targets, see how far it goes, how much it's affected by wind, and so on.

Also, unfortunately you will probably have to use some on yourself. Yes, on yourself. This is important because you want to be ready and know what to expect in case it gets on you in a high-pressure situation.

This won't be comfortable, have preparation set up to get it off of you. Maybe bring a friend to spray you and get you cleaned up.

> Am I so wrong in wanting to deal with my own issues by myself? This isn't the 60's where I need someone to step in for me, making me feel more objectified, and more useless. I'm currently not speaking to my dad, because his attitude is absolutely pissing me off.

I'm not sure how your father having seen probably sick behavior in his life that has made him more than wary is him objectifying you and calling you useless.
Assuming some guy attacks you and you or him "win" the fight, there's no real glory in being physically stronger or shame in being born with different strengths.
I don't think you're asking for too much, but nothing you said is making him feel any better. Parents don't live with themselves by spending hours wondering if you're still ok or not when you're away and taking no measures.

Every time your father noticed him he might've been looking at you since he liked you, hence your father singling him out among a group in the first place. Seeing a guy checking you out at random intervals of the day in different locations makes one suspicious. Guys don't look when you'd notice when they're not trying to approach you, but they don't care if bystanders do.
I'm reminded of this: http://www.amazon.com/Pepper-Spray-Bracelet-Personal-Silicone/dp/B00E3HSPL2
If you wear that in places with issues then he probably has no argument remaining about danger.
You don't really owe it to him to indulge him, but if you acknowledge he can't help being worried you can't ignore him completely.

I disagree with everyone who recommended a semi-auto pistol as your personal protection weapon.

Everybody's first handgun should be a revolver. The revolver's design simplicity, ergonomics and reliability make them ideal first guns and "carry pieces."

Smith and Wesson & Colt make fine revolvers, but they fetch a premium price.

I would recommend doing a little bit of research to find a reputable, indoor range in your area that stocks rental revolvers in .38 and .357 calibers so that you can get a feel for how revolvers of this type shoot.

Personally, I think that .22 Magnum is an unsung hero of a revolver caliber. If you can find a range that stocks one those too, even better.

Have you taken a firearms safety course yet? If so, you're ahead of the curve. If not, make it priority number one.

Once you get a feel for how revolvers or "wheel guns" run, then start visiting some sporting goods stores to see what they have in your price range.

I'm not a fan of Taurus' automatics, but they make some decent revolvers at affordable prices. Below are links to their .22 Mag as well as their line of lightweight revolvers. That's a reference to the gun's weight, not the experience level of the operator. :)

Before arming yourself with a handgun, please think carefully about whether or not doing so is actually warranted.

Remember that there are thousands of wise law enforcement officers who have gone entire careers without drawing their weapons.

There are also notable statistics that starkly indicate that people with firearms tend to get shot more often than people who don't have firearms.

Be honest with yourself.

Ask yourself if keeping yourself out of harms way is an equally viable option to arming yourself.

Ask yourself if a $50 Mace pistol from Amazon.com that shoots a 20-foot stream of debilitating nasty would be an equally suitable means of self defense.

Ask yourself, "Do I really need a firearm?" If the answer is yes, then by all means, acquire such a weapon, but do so thoughtfully and do so carefully.

Just my two sense, of course :)

Well what if it was more like an alternative gun that shoots pepper spray and tear gas like this one? It solves the problem of multiple scenarious with bad guys and is a lot messy legally.

I've never heard of anyone actually wanting to visit Wilmington! Lol excuse me for finding that funny.

Anyway, side note:

Dover, Delaware has a few decent museums, plus the capital building and the race track/casino (Dover Downs). The beaches are very nice in Delaware too; Rehobeth is the biggest one, but South Bethany and Cape Henlopen are more private and laid back if you're just trying to catch some sun.

Back to Wilmington:

The majority of the city is relatively safe during daylight hours. If you're not a drug dealer or gang member you should be fine in 90% of the city during the day time.

Maybe you should consider picking up a small keychain pepper spray. It's legal most places, and if you need it who cares about legality. If you don't need it, nobody will know, and you can feel more comfortable and safe.

I've been to Wilmington more times than I can count. I have a few friends who live there and I visit frequently. Wilmington has lots of bars, breweries, restaurants and a few decent state parks.

The Wilmington blue rocks are a fun minor league baseball team that you can go see, if you do go, go on a Friday night they have a free fireworks show.

Main Street Newark can be a fun place to visit during the school year. Newark is home to University of Delaware. UofD, or U.D. as we call it, is a party school. They throw big parties. It might be worth checking out. Grotto's Pizza and a few other places on Main Street will be spilling out on the sidewalk with people.

The movie theater in Newark is also on main street. It's a nice theater and the seats recline and are comfortable. A great option for a rainy day.

Delaware does have tax free shopping. No sales tax, means you can stock up on food or clothing for relatively cheap. Many people come across into Delaware for that alone.

Fun Delaware facts:

The multi billionaire duPont family lives in Delaware, and it's well known to Delawarians that they are inbred and intermarried and involved in some weirdo rituals on a few of their properties.

Former Vice President Joe Biden is nicknamed, Uncle Joe, by most outsiders, but nicknamed Creepy Joe by many of us here. It is well documented that former V.P. Joe Biden has a desire to rub, smell and inappropriately touch women of all ages. (Yes, that includes little children)
https://youtu.be/KQ-YjGmpO4Q
https://youtu.be/DwXweiRjckI
https://youtu.be/nvK-ze8_0CU

Joe has been called out many times for this and even the U.S. Secret Service agents will back up this little known story. (Some former agents wrote books describing their disgust with Creepy Joe and his perverted behavior)

Aubrey Plaza was recently voted out most famous person. https://youtu.be/WLeUt-jBE4Y

Delaware has tons of chicken houses, and sometimes you can smell them, or the chicken fertilizer used on farmers fields.

Many of us like old bay on our fries, except when we're at the beach, then we like vinegar on our fries.

Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution, making us officially the "First State".

Delaware has high humidity, and pollen. Summer can be really uncomfortable and muggy at times and if you have allergies, be ready. Some people who stay longer than a week develop temporary allergies, which completely disappear after leaving us. Not too common though.

Living here you get used to everything and take it for granted, but Delaware is beautiful. Lots of trees and fields, some lakes and streams, and beaches. Take pictures.

Have fun visiting and be safe.

Which is why if I'm walking somewhere sketchy I palm this:

But hey, you keep carrying that big knife that makes you look like a thug if you get pulled over by the cops. I'm sure you know what you're doing.
