I've found a lot of the embroidery-specific online retailers (ColDesi, for example) are specifically geared towards the professional embroiderer.

For home embroidery, you just can't beat Amazon deals... especially if you have that nice Prime perk of free shipping.

I recommend starting with a thread sampler, a roll each of cut away and tear away stabilizer, a pack or two of embroidery needles, and some solvy if you plan on stitching on towels, fleece, or other napped fabrics.

I have a lot of missed stitches when I use a regular twin needle with stretchy fabric. Have you tried using a ballpoint twin needle? If not, I would try that - Schmetz makes a 2.5 and a 4 (they call it a stretch twin needle) and I buy mine on Amazon: Schmetz 2.5 Stretch Double Needle - you can search for the 4.0 on Amazon, too, if that's what you need :)

If you sew, there's this needle set I found.

Edit: this is on my crafts list

I had some very similar issues with my brother 1500 which is almost the same machine and using a stretch needle did help some. I found a blog post somewhere about why in my furious Google storm for solutions but cannot for the life of me find it again. It didn't help 100% but did help enough for me to incorporate it. I ended up only have skipping at the intersections of more than one HST which is a lot of bulk.

That doesn't look like the one that came with my machine. I've owned other sewing machines, and they all looked like this: https://www.amazon.com/Schmetz-Stretch-Twin-Needles-Size/dp/B002F01F7U

In order to prevent getting dye on any other part of the hoodie you’re going to have to detach the pocket. You’ll need a seam ripper, rit dye, a double sewing needle for your machine, and thread that matches the color.
When detaching the pocket make sure you’re only cutting the thread holding the pock, and not any of the fabric.

If you’re not comfortable taking the pocket off and sewing it back on, I would not recommend dyeing it.

If you're using a Singer, you can use any jersey/ballpoint needle in the appropriate size for your fabric. I buy Organ needles in bulk from Amazon because I make a lot of knit daywear and like to have backups in case something breaks mid-project.

For non-stretch wovens, I use Schmetz universal needles, which I also buy in large quantities on amazon.

I say this because needles can be more expensive than people suspect, particularly if you're just getting accustomed to your machine or a particular fabric type, and because they should be changed more regularly than most people think in order to keep your fabric from snagging or running. If you plan to do any kind of regular sewing, get a good needle stash going.
