I love variegated yarns and I just keep buying them, even though I often end up liking them much more as hanks than as FOs because of bad pooling. I try to go for either extremely short color runs or very long ones to avoid the issue, but sometimes I fall in love with something I know has the potential to go so wrong once knitted. I use planned pooling for these, but it's impossible to create a consistent pattern if there's any shaping and I'm just not a garter stitch scarf person.

So, when I really, truly love a yarn but can't seem to make anything nice, I knit a solid square/rectangle and put it in a shadow box. I know it sounds crazy, but it makes amazing art. It looks really cool if you knit a bunch of dishcloth-sized squares in different stitches and get some small shadow boxes like these. You can make the knitting the same size as the frame, slightly smaller (with a matted background), or you can fold or crumple the knitting if you want additional texture. Then, you can either hang them individually or in a cluster, OR you can nail the frames together to make a big piece of wall art. It's also the coolest headboard ever, if you're into DIY stuff.

Thank you :) Here is the case I used for them. Wanted something with a cover on it, and something that would be deep enough for some shelves. Which I made with some planks of poplar wood and some L brackets. Works perfectly! Just can't fit anymore boards into it, which is probably for the best 😂

Vinyl frame on Amazon.

And yeah, yeah, it's not perfectly symmetrical and I need to step my duvet-game up — still happy about these two vinyls though :)

I got this one for my grandma when my grandpa passed,

Sorry I'm on mobile so I hope that link works for you. There are lots of other options on Amazon though.

i personally don’t use any, it’s just an idea i’ve seen before. These on amazon look good though

So... have you thought about shadow boxes?
Something to show off the smaller of your gifts/photos/trinkets that remind her of awesome things...

Since she's creative and loves poetry, how about creating a letter press plate? Or make a letter press if you really want to get crazy :D If you make that... could you make one for me for suggesting it? PLEASE? ;)

I got this for my Kids see ghosts vinyl, the Matt around the frame gives it a clean look.

Oh that's a great idea! I bought my husband a ticket shadow box and it has a slot on top to drop the tix in! It's hanging on our wall and filled with tickets! I couldn't find the exact one, but here is one similar!

You want to get a box frame similar to this from Amazon. I've used similar ones to hang other flat collectables before but I can't speak for this brand specifically.

Got the shadow box on Amazon.

I've thought about getting a bracket for the stick, but I don't know if it would be worth it for just one. I could probably get my dad to make me one though. He made the stand for the autographed stick blade with his laser cutter.

I've thought about adding some nice matting to frame the picture like in your post earlier, but I don't know if that would look good in a box this deep.

I make 1/700 ships, and they are a pain to store & display.

They are typically 30cm long by 5cm wide and incredibly fragile.

I custom made a 'shadow box frame' that would allow me to display 2 cruisers in one picture frame. I plan to hang them on the wall to save space with custom backgrounds and soft LED lighting.

You can find shadow box frames on amazon, or you can find DIYs on youtube. I also have a feeling golf ball display cabinets can work for 54mm miniatures like warhammer

So if you're super paranoid, it's pretty easy to safe guard. Just get a shadow box.

I put mine in this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074P1QNPK/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_5?smid=A1YX38XYXXJKM0&psc=1

It's hanging on the wall in my office. Has an opening at top you can drop them in

I bought the frame on amazon (here's the link), and yep I put blue felt for the background. :)

You can get them a baseball display case like this, along with an autographed ball or a game-used ball to start their collection: https://www.amazon.com/Baseball-Display-UV-Protection-Lockable-CHERRY/dp/B002V0ZZG6/ref=sr_1_22?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1468336196&sr=1-22&keywords=baseball+case

Team Yearbook (maybe try to get some autographs on it)

PNats season tickets

Send them for a road game weekend-- buy the tickets and a hotel night. Too bad the series with the O's is on weeknights but the Pirates series might be a nice treat.

Maybe a season ticket holder would sell you a pair of tickets for them and redeem their season ticket rewards points for the Batting Practice Experience, or the ballpark tour

Send 'em for a weekend of Spring Training games next year
