I think depending on the style of the loafer or oxford, it can be fine. I wouldn't cheap out and get something trendy or casual, which will not only look juvenile, but will show wear much easier. Some examples of what not to get: this, this, this

The last pic may seem fine, but I think it's lacking in terms of structure, so it comes off as pretty casual.

Some examples of what to look for: this, this, this, and this

FWIW, I've had better luck finding nice quality loafers than nice oxfords/wingtips. There are some UK brands which make some excellent wingtips for women, but since I don't know my size and it'd be an (expensive) international order for me, I just admire them from afar.

I would look for a basic heel from Clarks. They don't sell mine anymore but I found these that I would totally buy if I were looking: https://www.amazon.com/CLARKS-Womens-Quest-Sandal-Leather/dp/B07M9BFWMY/ref=sr_1_14?keywords=clarks+heels+women&qid=1558469726&s=gateway&sr=8-14

Block heels, simple straps, neutral colors are the way to go!

You guys, I’ve been the luckiest thrifter recently. Here’s a roundup of some - but not all - of the things I thrifted in the last 30 days or so:

This pair of Clarks for $6. They’re so cute (unlike your typical old lady Clarks) and comfortable and I loved them so much that I bought a second pair from eBay for $29. I want to wear them every day forever.

Two pairs of Rag & Bone skinny jeans - this one and this one. They were a little pricy for thrift at $14 and $16 each, but Rag & Bone skinnies have been on my wishlist for a while so this really helps a broke girl out. They still feel really stiff and sturdy, like they were never worn or broken in.

These J Brand Maria jeans with a cute ankle zip. The model picture of these makes me laugh because they’re much less cropped and a bit higher waisted on my short legs.

A Calvin Klein fuzzy camel coat ($11) like this. It’s alpaca and wool. Just in time for summer, ha, but it looks really great on so I couldn’t resist.

A Theory blouse that looks exactly like this one only it’s 95% silk and a pale mauve color ($6).

A Barbour L116 Black Microfibre Short Quilted Jacket like this one ($15). I’m tempted to flip it, but I’m a sucker for black basics so I can’t!

These & Other Stories leather loafers, but in black. I couldn’t find a picture of the black ones anywhere online to save my life.

These Calvin Klein black skinny pants ($7). They’re super comfortable!

These Bass black faux leather sneakers ($4).

This Diane Von Furstenberg tank ($3). It’s silk and viscose and has actual goldtone chains woven across the front.

Topshop mid blue Jamie jeans ($8). These have also been on my denim wishlist. They’re super stretchy but in great shape. Also grabbed a pair of Levi’s just like these and some black BDG skinnies like these for $4 each. Yay! I’ve been replacing all my denim recently because I went up a couple sizes and the thrift gods just keep blessing me.

I also randomly stumbled across these never-worn Eileen Fisher sandals for $8 shipped on Mercari so obviously I bought them! I wasn’t sure how I felt about them, but they’ve grown on me and I’m glad I grabbed them.

Those are the Nine West Speakup. I can't say they're the most comfortable flats I own but I like the overall look so I just throw in some insoles and deal haha

My pairs from Dr. Scholls and Corso Como are more comfortable out of the box

u/hkeyplay16 · 12 pointsr/Ultralight

For people set on having camp shoes, I've started using water socks with a thin rubber sole. They are just enough to protect my feet while not letting small pebbles and sticks in. Something like this:

Hunter boots. Everyone I talked to said, "Oh, they're so cute. . .but they leak sometimes. They're so great, though!" and I just thought it was ridiculous to buy rain boots that leak.

I bought these Kamik Jennifer boots instead and they're terrific. Low profile, solidly constructed, and super comfortable. I've walked miles in them at a time!

u/ruthannr94 · 6 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Okay so first off, be aware that really the only way to wear rain boots in winter in nothern states is with wool socks and even so they can tend to be pretty cold. If you're looking for true winter boots I'd recommend Sorrel.

However, just strictly speaking about Hunter boots. Personally I think they're very stiff and VERY heavy as far as rubber boots go. Also, overpriced. After a lot of evaluation I decided to go with the Kamik Jennifer instead which also comes in a short size the Kamik Jenny. They look very similar to the Hunter boots with the exception that they have a slightly narrower shaft, weigh less than half the Hunters do, have a REALLY cushy insole that's amazing and are made out of a slightly softer rubber. I should have done a side-by-side comparison before I mailed the Hunters and the Jenny boots back, but I preferred the two Kamik styles over the two Hunter styles on the basis of comfort, asthetic, weight, fit and price. Oh, did i mention? They're about a third of the price of Hunters. I haven't had the Kamiks too long, but they're very highly rated and almost all the reviews say they last for years. I haven't seen any reports of Kamiks cracking while I've seen lots of reports of Hunters cracking recently.

So there's my two cents. :)

Amazon:

white cropped shrug blazer

white cropped scalloped blazer

white cropped denim jacket

regular denim cropped jacket

Amazon (shoes)

Clarks heels (strappy) 3inches ish (I personlly have these & they are incredibly comfortable, I am not a heel person at all and they are my go to (and only pair) of heels) I actually bought them at Winners - I think in the states that would be marshalls or ross?

Thick heel sandal -black/brown

Similar to above but all brown

brown sandal with smaller heel

honestly it's really up to you! I used clarks as an example because they are crazy comfy and you will have them for a long time! They have a ton of options though, more formal heels, low sandals, wedges, 1-2 inch shoes, etc!

Even flats, mules or slides would look really great in my opinion!

u/elenym · 5 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Long-time lurker! Hopefully this is the right place to post this....

I need shoe help! My work wardrobe mostly consists of dresses worn with a cardigan (or blazer), and leggings (not tights). I am terrible at shoes, and it's hard to find ones I think are comfortable. I usually wear flats (this is my current pair), or slip-on sneakers. I just tried ordering a bunch of shoes from amazon, flats and wedges, and I'm not in love with any of them.

Should I be looking at booties? I hadn't tried booties because I am really short (4'10") and I have pretty fat ankles/calves. I've looked for taller boots and have never found any I can wear over my giant ankles. But maybe booties would work? My fear was they'd make my legs look even shorter, or would be too tight around my cankles.

Ideally, I'd like something comfortable that I can walk moderate distances in. Also, I suck at heels, so a very short heel or a wedge would be better. And I'm cheap! So under $50? Clearly I'm asking for a miracle here.

u/SarahMackAttack · 5 pointsr/LadiesofScience

A good comfortable pair of flats is very worth it. You can consider it an investment for your professional life. These are comfortable as hell, coming from a woman who wears chuck taylor's every day:
http://www.amazon.com/Hush-Puppies-Womens-Chaste-Ballet/dp/B009OXV0SU
And added bonus they don't have any toe cleavage which grosses some people out.

u/SunnyAslan · 4 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

The standard comfortable heel recommendation on FFA is the Corso Como Del. I tried it on and I fell between sizes because I have the same issue you have (6.5 slips off my heel and a 6 squeezes my toes.). I recommend, if you have a Nordstrom nearby, to go try a pair on and see if they work for your feet.

Since they didn't work for my feet so I ended up purchasing Chinese Laundry Area. The point is more subtle so it isn't outdated and they don't fall off the edge of my heel or squeeze my toes. (though I do sometimes still get minor rubbing so I use moleskin)

Another option is to get a cobbler to stretch out the toe box or do it yourself. I know this will work with leather, and I've heard the you can also do it with patent leather (though patent leather might show "stretched" areas).

u/TheRealKaila · 4 pointsr/WaltDisneyWorld

My number one park shoes are my Chacos. I love love love them. But they need to be well broken in before a day in the parks.

On my last trip I brought a pair of Sanuk Yoga Sling Sandals, and I loved them! They were super comfy, the sling kept them on, and they dried quickly. And there's so many different colors and patterns!!

u/vouloir-saisir · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Here are some options: first second third fourth

u/kokova · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

They don't feel any different from my Kamiks, except they're 3x more expensive and have those little white tags on the front.

Hush Puppies Chaste Ballet Flats are my favorite! They are comfy, versatile, and durable.

Owners of Corso Como Dels!

Did it take you a few wears to break it in? I have the Corso Como Del in Multi Brown Tortoise Patent and it feels so stiff. I never buy patent leather shoes, so I'm not sure if this is how it is supposed to feel.

You can see here that there is a gap between my heel and the back of the shoe. I think it's because the shoe is so stiff and the heel part is too narrow (like a narrow triangle) and pushes my feet forward, making my toes touch the toe box. Will the triangle part soften and mold to my feet soon?

u/Romperpaw · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Not really bottoms, but I've found a pair of knee-high boots always seems to even out my body and make me look longer and slimmer no matter what kind of pants I'm wearing under them- though I tend to favor skinny jeans since they fit under them more comfortably. I have a pair of loose-fit black skinny jeans from Macys and forest green Gap Corduroy skinny pants.

To go over them, I have a pair of Hush Puppies Alternative boots from Macys (most comfy shoes in the world- period), and these hot Miz Mooz boots. The Miz Mooz boots were on sale for 40% off when I got them on Amazon, and I get so many compliments on them!

I'm short (5'2"), but with this combination, I never feel too pear-y or stubby.

u/chamomile827 · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Depends on your feet, but I have Dr. Scholls flats on Amazon on my wish list and it sends me a notification when they go on sale, so I never spend more than $30 on any given pair. They last me a long time.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BTYTRRS/

I'd never heard of Rothy's until I saw your post, and they look so good! I'm going to keep my eyes on those too :)

u/captivatingbleu · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
u/flyingmountain · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Good job canceling, those were heinous. To be honest I've never seen a decent looking pair of shoes from Skechers.
Try these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003433FWA
Or these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006GVOUAS
Or if you want boat shoes: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000FK5HSU

u/deceasedhusband · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

The Hush Puppies Chaste ballet flat. They have a padded footbed and rubber sole so they're comfortable for walking in but they still have a sleek profile.

u/AnnieOakley · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

[Miz Mooz] (http://www.amazon.com/Miz-Mooz-Womens-Bloom-Knee-High/dp/B003EP3RBC/ref=pd_sbs_shoe_3) These may not be quite what you are looking for but I bought a pair in black last year and wear them all the time. My calf measures 13" and they fit snugly. I managed to get them on sale at $140, making them the priciest pair of shoes I own, but considering how often I wear them I am happy with my splurge and think I will be for a few more years. Happy hunting!

u/minawasena · 2 pointsr/washingtondc

I have these for snow boots, coming from Central New York.

http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Womens-Ice-Maiden-Winter/dp/B00H7WWN2M

I used to have a pair of Sorel's but the ankle part was cutting into me. These Columbia boots are super comfy, very warm with fluff inside, and have large mobility in the ankle which is unlike most snow boots.

u/lemon-s · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Yes they're online. Price depends, I'd shop around places like 6pm because some colorways are much cheaper than others.

I have some Clarks smoking loafers which are probably my comfiest flats, and these loafers look like they'd be comfy too.

u/bexcellent101 · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Maybe not cat faces, but she can have kitty(ish) feet!

I used to have a pair of these bad boys and they were warm as shit. Unwieldy, though.

Over 10K? Fancy!

  • 'Cause everyone should have one of these.

  • These clearly shouldn't be.

  • My item, please.

My Gf just picked up a pair of these for some kayaking we did. They're under 6 oz for the pair for women's 8.5, and they're breathable, quick drying, and have a thin rubber sole.

u/Zoobles88 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Probably these xD

u/QuaereVerumm · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I wear loafers and ballet flats, I used to wear heels every day but they became too painful. I have these Dr. Scholls flats in Sand Patent and Wine Patent, these Croc flats, and Coach loafers. The Croc flats are super comfy and no one ever guesses they're Crocs! I do not recommend the Coach loafers, they wear out quickly, but I like loafers in general!

u/Salomon3068 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I work at a small company producing vintage style t-shirts(read: american apparel tri-blends with hand screened prints). We wear our product all the time to help promote ourselves, which basically includes jeans and a t-shirt. I dont really have shoes to complete the look though. Its been fine so far because i just wear sandals all the time since it was summer, but now that its cooling off, i want to find a pair of nice, versatile shoes for the rest of the year.

I was looking at something like these: http://www.zappos.com/saucony-originals-jazz-low-pro-vegan-grey-red

Or These: http://www.amazon.com/Vans-AUTHENTIC-SKATE-SHOES-PEWTER/dp/B003433FWA/ref=sr_1_47?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1381235760&sr=1-47

Im just not sure. Ive got a laid back personality and i think that reflects on my personal style, but i want to get something that goes with a lot of colors, will hold up against snow, and still looks nice without breaking the bank. Does anyone have suggestions?

u/redparapluie · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I have the charlie brogue. It looks like they currently have these available, but patent leather can easily get scuffed. Other quality comfort brands to consider are Born and Bass. Looks like you should be able to find something for 100-150(USD).

u/batski · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

Sebago penny loafers! I have the brown and love them dearly.

u/ExNihiloAdNihilum · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

Oh I'm so glad I clicked on this thread! I've been looking for a comfy and super light pair of shoes to replace my Reeboks that I can no longer find in the right size or color, these look like a good idea!!

u/Lindseyj66 · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

Sanuk yoga sandals amazon link

u/trappedinthetardis · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

Might be too casual for you but these come up a little higher and hide ankle socks better than vans/keds. They are also SUPER comfy (no break ins needed, and I get blisters from almost every shoe) and machine washable.

I don't wear heels either because they're just not suited for me/my life.

For work - Hush Puppies Chilli because I'm a pharmacist = on my feet all day. My next purchase for work are compression stockings. The hush puppies are almost dead so I'll need to get some more work shoes soon too.

Casual -

  • Skechers Go Step Lite / Reebok Skyscape Runaround 2.0 both in black/white; if these shoes broke I would replace them with the exact same shoes. I have the Skyscape in grey as well, but it gets stained easily so I would find a different pair of grey sneakers if they broke.

  • Veja Esplar Velcro in white - if these shoes broke I would find a different pair of white sneakers.

  • Black Slides (forgot brand) - I also want to get a pair of brown slides for lighter-coloured outfits.

  • Black chelsea's (forgot brand) for winter

  • On my to-buy list: nice, plain pair of pointed toe black leather flats (why are they so hard to find!?)

u/DawnTheDreamer · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I bought these amazing boots and they are my favorite things ever. They aren't bulky at all. They are lightweight, fashionable, and will keep you toasty warm and dry. I know they aren't cheap but online black friday deals are going to be coming out soon. I got mine on sale and they are worth every single penny. New England winters suck too so, I feel your pain there. I hope you find everything you are looking for!

u/Lindthom · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice
  1. These in the summer. Much better than regular flip flops IMO
  2. A pair of black strappy sandals with studs on them I found at Target a couple years ago on clearance.
  3. These boots. I wear them almost every single day in the winter.
  4. And my pair of Asics running/walking shoes.

These ones. It's kind of hard to see in the photo but if you look at the various angles, you can kinda see the arch support.
