Best short story literary criticism books according to redditors

Good plan ... "Graded readers" is the term you're looking for. There are several available on Amazon with titles like "Italian Short Stories for Beginners", "Short Stories in Italian for Beginners", etc. In the product descriptions they should give you a general idea of the CEFR language level.

I have been enjoying that book, as well as the penguin course.

I also got ABBYY Lingvo (Android, paid), it's a great dictionary that has verb conjugations, noun declensions, and includes word stress.

But the most important thing is to practice. I'm a beginner, but I'd be up for practising (I'm on the US West coast if it matters).

It’s meant for CEFR A2/B1, but even for complete beginners it should give a good reference for how grammar is used

Method and Madness is my favorite.

If you want to read good shorts, just pick up some popular anthologies. If you already know a few names in it, you're bound to find some new voices you like. My favorite is the Scribner Anthology of Contemporary Short Fiction.

Short Stories in French for Beginners

I’ve read these stories several times and my comprehension gets better each time. The stories themselves are not the best you’ll ever read but I feel like it has definitely helped my reading comprehension. And it’s only 99c for Kindle (I use the kindle app on my iPhone).

There’s an italian one by the same author.

It highlights useful/words and gives a full glossary afterwards. Also has questions to ensure you understand the text/stories!

I'm a big fan of Short Stories in Russian for Beginners too. The title is quite missleading, I think that it is more aimed at the pre-intermediate/intermediate crowd.

Also, there is a series from CTC called Как я стал русским. You can watch it on YouTube for free. It is a little difficult, but seems like a fun show.
