I love the left side of the room. The right side all looks like it came from grandmas guest room. Which it potentially all did... as did my entire first college bedroom, but it's be easy to liven that up and make it yours. You have a pretty cool minimalist, tech vibe going with that desk, lamp and chair. Keeping the other side of the room more simple will let more exciting things be the center of attention.

With the bedspread, a solid light gray is always safe- you could throw that cool blanket on top in the winter too. It lets you get some bright pillows to add color if you want. With the lamp, a cheap way to go would just to get a more simple lamp shade. Something Light gray or white with some texture would be a start.

After that, some blackout curtains and a long curtain rod would be awesome. I imagine it really opening up the feel of the room.

Now plants, it's crazy how much it really livens up a room. If light is low, give this article a read. You'll find something at Home Depot or Lowes that you can take care of. Put some smaller ones on one or two cheap shelves with what ever other cool nicknacks you start gathering at school and it'll feel like a castle man.

I see a lot of stuff about wall decor on here. Get a poster or two if you want, maybe a mirror. Old maps are cool too. Find an old map of whatever town you're in or from. Maybe a cool (quite) wall clock, but don't go crazy; college dorms can start feeling like dungeons when the walls get too crowded.

Black out shades and curtains are a winning combo. My bedroom is so dark and cool now I’d never wake up if it wasn’t for the alarm.

I also highly recommend these curtain rods.

u/cantthinkkangaroo · 5 pointsr/InteriorDesign

Ikea sells these things. I used one at my last house to hang curtain across a large opening. (7+ feet.) They would work for you, though I would suggest not hanging very heavy curtains from it or it will sag.

u/Labtecci · 4 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

I hung heavy curtains on my bay window using a special curtain rod for this. They have an “elbow” that you can adjust as needed. How about this corner curtain rod ?

u/starstough · 4 pointsr/BroMoHousekeeping

Some blackout curtains are better than others, to start (Navy or black work best).

That there are curtain rods that exist that wrap around so that you can easily pull the curtains all way the way to the wall on either side and then to the middle.

You may need an extra panel to hang in the center so that there is enough overlap, and if you really want zero light, you can hang a cornice or even a valance curtain, or build a box cornice that sits flush against the wall on the top of the window which would block the light from the top.

I have, in the past, gone so far as to tape the curtains all around the top and sides, but you can't really do that over and over without damaging the wall and gumming up the fabric lol... but I was desperate. My kids slept on sun time and that was unbearable in the summer.

I myself use the drill paddle. Works pretty damn good. Usually fermentation takes off within 12 hours (sometimes within 4 even) and almost always have to use a blow off tube otherwise I blow out my air lock. Actually just did a batch and used an airlock and I have to clean a mess when I get home from work. Thought I was safe on my 1.040 mild, oh well.

The only way I’d replace it is with pure oxygen which I am considering soon.

This is the one I use:

I'm thinking 45" blackout curtains. This would cover the whole window and the bottom of the curtains would be 3" above the lip in the middle of the wall. My TV is on the opposite wall.

I'm looking at these wrap-around curtain rods and these curtains

Or something similar if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

u/ppatra · 2 pointsr/india

I'm currently installing this thing: https://www.amazon.in/dp/B01N9DAI4Z/ and amazon also provided plastic dowels to anchor the screws, to put the platic bits I'll have to drill a bigger hole. That's why I'm just drilling the current holes a bit deeper and putting the screws without plastic bits.

btw thank you for answering all my questions. 😊

Something like this. I have two patio doors in my house and while they don't face anywhere anyone can see in and are double-paned, they are still cold. All other windows have blinds except a sidelight (another sewing project). Curtain rod..

Get a tension rod and curtain that blocks sun which is probably $20 or less total.

I see that you need 10-12 ft...

You'll need a bigger tension rod like https://www.amazon.com/RoomDividersNow-Premium-Tension-Curtain-120in-150in/dp/B01HFQHRE8?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1

And 2-4 curtains.
It'll be around $100.

Or you can buy a room divider https://www.amazon.com/s?k=room+divider&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

Not all that mobile though. Plus, if someone has 10 foot ceilings, the smaller one won't be enough.

Edit: Sorry, I was looking at two similar threads simultaneously and it was the other one looking for a mobile solution.

Though I wonder if that's the route one is going, if this might be a little more inconspicuous and it has more reach (though a little more expensive):

That looks like an ok system, the brush looks like it’s meant to spin from a drill. Typically i would use something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/Rutland-Products-16906-Chimney-Cleaning/dp/B000FKDMLO

As for the rods you can get button lock or ones that screw together, both work fine. Make sure the rods will fit the brush, if they’re screw- together rods they are typically two sizes, 3/8” and 1/2”, just make sure the brush head is the same size threads. Example of type of rods I use below.

https://www.amazon.com/Midwest-Hearth-Fiberglass-Chimney-18-Foot/dp/B0778XH959/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540224460&sr=8-1-fkmr1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=chimney+rods+1%2F2%E2%80%9D

As far as cleaning the chimney yourself that’s fine. Many people do it themselves. As long as you have a basic understanding of how things are set up and what is safe (or unsafe) you should be ok. Like if I come to clean your chimney I’m looking everything over to make sure it’s all still connected properly, nothing has decayed or been damaged and everything is installed to code. I look for the type of soot that I’m getting out of it, is it creosote or powdery? As this will tell me about your wood quality and burning habits. So IMO you should have it swept professionally at least every couple of years if you are not sure. But if a sweep has already inspected the chimney and no issues were found you are probably fine to clean your own chimney. Really up to you and how comfortable you are with the venting system.

Hang your Fleur on the brick. Either drill and put in a screw or get some brick clips.

I'd borrow a hammer drill and get a permanent screw mounted dead center above the mantle. Even if you move, someone will always use it to hang something.

Other than that, lets start with the basics.

  1. the curtain rod needs to be replaced. You want something strong and sturdy over wide windows. Check out the Amazon basics 1" rod. Im also a fan of the pipe style curtain rods. I have these in my house

  2. Remove the mini blinds from the door and go with 2" faux wood to match the other window. French door blinds like these come with mounts so the very bottom rung attached to the door, making it so they don't flap around when you use the door. Since you have a pupper, You might want to consider using those mounts up higher and leaving some open window space at the bottom for little eyeballs to see outside. It will keep them from tearing up the blinds.

As for the curtain panels for the other window, maybe something like this that matches the carpet style. Since you have window blinds already, you don't really need full on blackout curtains..so some nice semi sheer curtains would look nice. Just push them off to the sides of the window to create the look of curtains...or open the blinds and close them to have privacy but let in light

  3. Get some table lamps for your end tables. And do yourself a favor and get plug in slide dimmers and use dimming LED bulbs or incandescent. I prefer incandescent in my den lamps because they dim really softly and its really homey feeling. Simple table lamps

  4. Paint. I feel like something in a sage green would go nicely in this space.

And if you white wash the brick and stain the mantle a nice dark walnut color...I think the sage green would go nicely.

  5. Lastly, at some point, change out the ceiling fan to something in bronze. [Maybe something like this]
(https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-Copley-52-in-Indoor-Outdoor-Oil-Rubbed-Bronze-Ceiling-Fan-51504/206648583) Brass dates a house so any time you can get rid of it, you should.

i was thinking a tension rod like:
https://www.amazon.com/RoomDividersNow-Premium-Tension-Curtain-120in-150in/dp/B01HFQHYZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523303310&sr=8-1&keywords=tension+rod+150+inch

They work up to 12 foot 6 inches. Then you can attach whatever you want on it, like a dog leash or just cable strips

u/AlexTakeTwo · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I have large sliding glass doors in my bedroom and living room. I get extra long drapes like these and add a third or fourth panel if the door is wider than two panels. So for the bedroom, for example, I only needed two panels. For the wider living room, I used three panels. The darker color options of those drapes do block light very well.

To hang them, I used the longer version of this Umbra drapery rod

I've been using tension curtain rods for over 2 years, no issues.

I can't find the exact model I had, there's probably ones cheaper than the above. I think they're smaller and less ugly than the other things people use

u/pastaaaa · 1 pointr/Advice

Since it's an apartment, you probably won't be allowed to install doors or anything that would involve drilling into the walls, so I'd suggest buying some tension rods for the doorways and hanging up curtains for privacy.

u/BaloneyBologna · 1 pointr/whatisthisthing

Looks like it might be for draperies - to hold a 2nd curtain rod maybe? The thumb screw secures the ring around the curtain rod that is attached to the wall, and then a second rod sits across the other. Similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Beme-International-Decopolitan-Telescoping-Drapery/dp/B00NLFCV2G/ref=sr_1_14?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1519335195&sr=1-14&keywords=double+curtain+rod

u/carissalf · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

OK, I quit. Work people just won't stop bothering me...so here it is, I have two of these on my wishlist which comes to: $22.20 sans tax. But I will never understand Amazon's taxing system...so yeah.

Thanks for the contest!!

u/purplekoolaidguy · 1 pointr/Twitch

You might want to add what you purchased exactly to your post.

I bought one of these prefer it over anything. I use the green screen like a curtain and got some hooks for the screen to clip on. It works amazingly well and very convenient. https://www.amazon.com/Curtain-Stainless-Multi-purpose-Mounting-Pieces/dp/B00KO3JU40/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1468869344&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=room+divider+wrire and

http://amzn.com/B00FB6NADW Blackout curtain rods will help if you use some heavy thermal curtains, also check if air is coming in and properly apply some weather stripping. Might even be able to apply some door sweep type of weather stripping where the sliding door slides so that when it closes it forms a seal. If you've got a thick door you can put stripping on the edges of one side and a small strip down the middle of the other side so when it shuts it's super tight. It won't look pretty though.

Window film is also a thing my boss has tried, but he said it's hard to get it just right so be prepared to take your time with it.

u/remembersarah18 · 1 pointr/InteriorDesign

I would get very simple curtain rods (like [these](Umbra Cappa 1-1/4-Inch Drapery Rod for Window, 36 to 72-Inch, Nickel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FB6MG4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_pboNxbTESM3WQ) maybe) with silver rings, and solid white curtain panels. Hang all the rods at the same distance away from the ceiling, which will be close, but it will draw the eyes upwards and make your room appear bigger with higher ceilings. Then, just get different lengths of curtains depending on where they're hung so they all end up touching the floor. In your living room you might need a longer panel than by the tv for example. If it isn't custom to the size you need, you can always pin it up a little on the bottom to make it fit.

simple curtain look
length of curtain help I like the kiss style, the puddle is too formal for my house :)

Best of luck!!

Edit: for the one by the soffet, you might also consider doing a blind rod, where it just attaches to the wall and doesn't show the rod. Like these cheap ones
