next time try the helmet on your head!

this is for your ass

Definitely a helmet. I use one of these, very affordable and in my opinion it's quite comfortable.

I'm looking to buy a helmet. How does this one look? From what I can tell, it has all the required certifications, but just thought I'd get someone else's input:

Wrist injuries are really common when just starting out. When I was learning I always wore these Triple 8 wrist guards. Most people wear slide gloves for hand protection, but they don't have any wrist support.

I mostly ride at night. You may think I go overboard here, but drivers here are legendarily bad. I have a bright orange windbreaker with reflective stripe (think like a pit crew jacket) but I only wear that in cool weather, which is a ways off for me still. Here's what I wear (aside from trying to wear light-colored T-shirts):

1.) Bright headlamp on my helmet. Good to view the road, has a red light on the back of the helmet on the battery pack to help make me visible from behind. I also find it very useful to make sure cars see you - if you're approaching an intersection and you're not sure, just glance at the driver. When you do, you're flashing a head-height light in his face, more or less straight on level (don't stare and blind him, obvs.). He'll see you.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PWB4R7R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2.) One of these little dinky flashing red bike lights clipped on the back of my backpack:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F635KH4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

3.) I also am pretty happy with the DIY supplemental light rig I've made for my OneWheels, it greatly increases the board's "headlights". I plan to post a tutorial here soon for anyone interested. Cheap, durable, bright, and easy semi-permanent install (you don't need to take them off the board to charge them. But if you need to take them off, it's not hard to do.)

4.) You could also look at various reflective stickers/rail wraps/sidekicks for the board itself. OWArmor makes some - I have a circular sticker that just lines the rim of the wheel on both my boards. Float Life put out some pretty neat reflective Sidekicks recently, but they may be sold out now.

5.) If I didn't already have a helmet, I'd consider this: black by day, reflective silver by night:

My minimum is a helmet and wrist guards. After my crap Chinese wristies started falling apart, I took another rider's advice and went to Hillbilly.

Hope you heal up quickly, friend!

Falling correctly is obviously a big part of reducing damage and wearing a typical wrist guard would minimize damage more than these gloves. I've got both these guards and I wear the killer only while practicing tricks on my regular skateboard. They are way too cumbersome when I'm going to and from classes and carrying stuff. The 2 pucks on the flatland are angled in such a way that falling straight down gets translated into a horizontal sliding motion to minimize wrist damage. I've fallen once going 16 mph and I did not injure my wrists or palms. Most of the damage gets transferred to the elbow region and I always wear pads for that.

Then again I've only got a Mini S so you might want to look for better protection if you're going much faster.

I believe that's a different model. The knee pads for derby are definitely different.

I had this same question a couple weeks ago. Here’s the feedback I got:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectricUnicycle/comments/d4lnw9/any_specific_brandmodel_protective_gear

All solid suggestions I think. I ended up ordering Flexmeters (wrist guards), and the knee and elbow Fox D3O pads and the Fox Defender gloves.

The gloves are some of my favorite ever. And the elbow pads are solid. The knee pads are tight and hot though. Pretty uncomfortable and a challenge to get on and off.

I had ordered the JBM Adult Protective Gear Set for Biking, Riding, Cycling and Multi Sports and after just a few outings those actually break in really nice and are very comfortable. $20 for a full set of comfortable gear; can’t beat that. And I’ve gone down at low speed in them several times, so they seem to do the trick.

I also ordered Leatt EXT knee/shin pads because they don’t have a “sock” design, so I can easily wear them over jeans.

Finally (other than helmets) I’ve got some wrist-guards I got for free from eWheels with my EUC and those actually ended up being my favorite so far. You can buy them separately for $19. I like them so much because I don’t have to take off my Apple Watch when I wear them. Which means I can use apps that show me speed, battery, etc. As well as just being all around convenient.

The Flexmeters seem like good kit. And they’re very comfortable. But they’re also long and feel like they probably conflict with longer elbow pads like the Fox pads.

Buttom line, T-Shirt and Shorts gear for me is JBM pads + eWheels wrist guards + helmet. Swap in the Leatt knee/shin pads if I’m wearing pants. And I’d probably throw on the Fox elbow pads instead of the JBM try to fit the Flexmeters if I felt like I was gonna be pushing it. And in the winter I’d wear an armored jacket instead of elbow pads.

No, something designed to both absorb impact and prevent flexing. Like these at a minimum: https://www.amazon.com/Triple-Saver-Wristsavers-Black-Small/dp/B0000DZIK1/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1481674687&sr=8-3&keywords=wrist+guards

There's also "glove" type ones, and even some ridiculously thick ones for the downhill skater guys who intentionally drag their hands on pavement for control in highs-speed turns.

I've always used the "splint" style ones like the ones I linked above. They've saved my wrists in several falls. Important: no wrist-guard will completely prevent injury if you fall directly onto your hands badly enough. That's why the "learn to tuck and roll" advice above is so important. Ultimately that's what will prevent fractures.

u/Aarkh · 2 pointsr/ElectricSkateboarding

Pads I've really liked these for the value.

Butt/hip

I feel like hips are under talked about. After my first fall I got these. My hips were the most bruised up part. Even months later I can feel it.

Triple Eight Certified Helmet, All Black Rubber, Large/X-Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M569MA6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_csdXQoG8iNxIY

I have a Triple 8 Brainsaver. It's cheap, looks good, and does the job :p I fell and the side of the helmet got decently scraped. Nothing happened to my face/head. The full face helmets look really cool but they're a bit pricey. I ordered another Triple 8 helmet for $26 :D It definitely doesn't break the bank lol.

EDIT: Get a certified helmet instead. The Triple 8 Brainsaver wiith Sweatsaver helmet is good for low speed impacts. It will not protect you from high speed impacts. I just ordered the certified Triple 8 helmet and will be returning the other one that I purchased.

u/poorlyexecutedjab · 2 pointsr/unicycling

For touring, I'll wear a helmet, wrist guards, and knee pads as I tend to ride in traffic. I'm confident of my skills, but drivers have proven time and again how reckless they are, especially in my urban environment. When riding in bicycle/pedestrian only areas, I'll typically wear just the wrist guards.

Definitely go for the wrist guards and decent knee pads. I've never come close to hitting my head from an unplanned dismount. For reference, I have the Hillbilly Half Finger Wrist Guards. They're slightly cheaper at Amazon than unicycle.com.

u/nejflo · 2 pointsr/NewSkaters

I'm not a pro or anything but I went with a certified helmet. skateboard/bike. https://smile.amazon.com/Triple-Eight-Certified-Helmet-Rubber/dp/B00M569K6M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496012092&sr=8-1&keywords=triple%2B8%2Bcertified%2Bhelmet&th=1&psc=1

Pro-tech, triple 8, 187 pads and TSG. In that order of lowest price to highest price. but the 187 and TSG get pricey but are amazing quality from what I hear. All can be found on amazon.

u/thisdigitalhome-com · 2 pointsr/boostedboards

Push start a first few times if you have to. Lean forward when hitting the throttle, lean back when braking. Also, wear your gear, if you're a new rider like me.

These JBM knee, wrist, elbow pad kit has already saved me plenty of skin for just 25 bucks.

Sure, I do feel a bit awkward wearing this around in this beach town where almost NO one wears safety gear, but in the end, after a couple of holes in my pants and a busted knee already, I'm sticking to wearing them until I get a 100% confident.

u/Afdrmgt · 2 pointsr/FigureSkating

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend getting wrist guards. I use these: https://smile.amazon.com/Triple-Saver-Wristsavers-Black-Small/dp/B0000DZIK1

I wear wrist guards when I'm working on something new and it's unpredictable how I'll fall, but when I first started skating as an adult I just wore them all the time. A tailbone pad is also helpful. I see some adults wearing helmets too. These things won't necessarily save you from a bad fall (although there have been times when I've fallen hard on my hands and the wrist guards probably prevented injury) but hopefully they'll give you confidence and make it more likely you'll get comfortable with the ice and falling properly to reduce your risk of injury.

u/ailychees · 2 pointsr/ElectricScooters

I got the triple eight darklight reflective helmet.

I don't care and you shouldn't either. I'd rather look like one than have anything smashed by the ground.

u/jazztbone2b · 2 pointsr/onewheel
u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/snowboarding

ABSOLUTELY!

Here are the hilbilly ass pads I swear by! I feel they are excellent protection all around including tailbone. I also have the RED impact shorts and will sometimes wear both if I'm going crazy, but the RED shorts don't protect the tailbone nearly as well as the HillBilly's.

I would say the Demon Snow Flex force short that floppy linked are #2.

There is no shame in armoring up and anybody who says otherwise is a douche.

u/christorrella · 2 pointsr/boostedboards

Because I bought a BB for equal parts coolness to transportation ability, I'd honestly say that the best way to go is a TSG Pass because it's comprised of equal parts coolness factor and protection ability.

Also, I got this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000DZIK1/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for wrist guard, they had a package with elbow and knee guard, but I didn't get that one, and got just the wristguard.

u/FrijolRefrito · 1 pointr/longboarding

I have gear from Triple Eight and Pro-Tec right now. Not really sure what's good as far as gear but it's definitely protected my knees and elbows. I have the Triple Eight Dual certified helmet, Triple Eight Elbow pads, and Pro-Tec Knee Pads. I personally just needed something quick and convenient so I shopped around on Amazon and got whatever looked decent. They've been working for me so far and saved me in my first major fall going downhill.

For helmets, make sure your helmet is certified. I first bought one that was not certified, and it's basically useless plastic and foam that does NOT protect your head apart from scrapes. You need to make sure any helmet you get has EPS Foam and is certified for what you're doing.

As for wrist protection, I would maybe suggest getting some slide gloves instead. I know you're more interested in cruising, so it might just be fine to have wrist guards, but it's possible you'll want to try out a slide or two in the future and that way you don't need to buy your hand protection twice. I have not yet learned to slide but have some gloves, and they definitely saved my hands when I took a bad spill. They have hard pucks on the palms which are used to support your body when you slide, but they work great to protect your hands as well.

I've tried a couple of wrist guards, but I've found these to be the best:

Hillbilly Wrist Guard Gloves - Half Finger
http://amzn.to/2rlkPve (Amazon affiliate link)

They slip on like gloves. The guard plastic doesn't get in the way of holding the Boosted controller. And the half-fingers don't get in the way too much of the Flatland3D O-ring I have on the controller.

I tried a couple of different wrist guards, but they were either not as simple to put on as these Hillbilly's or they got in the way of the controller.

Hello all, I was wondering if you guys could give a recommendation on some impact shorts for snowboarding. I have narrowed it down to 4 based upon price and availability to me in Vancouver.

The creme of the crop seems to be skeletools and azzpadz, but those are a little hard to get a hold of, as far as I can tell, in Vancouver.

So if you could either recommend one of the four I have pre-selected, or if you think I'm way off base on something and letting me know. My budget is $150.

There are actually pads for your lower back, if by lower back you mean tailbone:

https://www.amazon.com/Hillbilly-protective-gear-2704-Pad-Impact/dp/B002UHXY8G

They’re more of a thing in the Rollerblading world though.

The rest of your back you really don’t need padding for, the main thing is just to have all of your vertices covered since 99% of the time that’s what absorbs the brunt of any impact.

u/Sparq1472 · 1 pointr/rollerblading

I wear the hill billy crash pants. Hillbilly Impact Shorts, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002688TD4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_v7UJDb1WF5JGJ they look more bulky than they are, that being said they are still pretty bulky. I plan on using them for snowboarding as well so I wanted protection for concrete and snow. I don’t really care about looking like I have a huge ass when I’m blading as long as my hips and butt went getting bruised up so this works for me. I have heard good things about the triple eight crash pants As well. They appear to be more lightweight but most likely less protection. I wear tool bags at work so having bruised hips is insufferable for me during the week so I absolutely love these pads for Aggressive blading.

I'm using Hillbilly wrist guards - half finger and Hillbilly impact shorts I've put them to good use and they're holding up great. If you're thinking about getting the shorts, double and triple check the sizing. When reading reviews, I saw a lot of people complaining about the sizing, so I ordered a size smaller than normal (medium instead of large) and they fit perfectly. phew

Im just getting back into the game after a 20 year hiatus and have the same concerns as you. Surprisingly, I quickly remembered how to fall again but I definitely miss my harbinger wrist wraps. They were awesome back in the day as they were gloves that had a nice solid wrap around the wrist and a palm side splint only. I always worried about the top side splint breaking my fingers and this was an awesome solution. I went down hard numerous times in parks and street and those things were champs. Unfortunately, they don't make them anymore but I did order the ones below and they will be arriving today. I will update here after I use them if you'd like.

Hi guys. I've been convinced to pick up a full face helmet for longboarding and I'm wondering whether I'd be able to use it for snowboarding as well? It's a TSG Pass. I'd wear it without goggles as it has a visor. Does she shape, visor, hardshell fibreglass or anything else make it not viable for snowboarding? I can't see anything that would stop me from using it to snowboard.

Thanks.

These wrist guards are the ones I use and you still have control of the remote. I do however wish the battery percentage was in the top left instead of right, because even without wrist guards it gets covered up with my hand, and to me I'd rather know my battery percent over what mode I'm in.

My son wears triple 8 bumsavers. . I wear crash pants 100% of the time I skate pools and parks and whenever I'm pushing my DH comfort zone.

I wear these every day and I'm an advanced rider. I really wish I had invested in these when I was learning!
