just disclaimer some of these toys should only be played with under your supervision so use your best judgement. Check any rubber or stuffed/fabric toys daily for wear and if you see it starting to come apart throw it away as any loose pieces can be swallowed and cause a blockage. My ferrets aren’t chewers they just like to have toys to stash so I’m not as worried but everyone’s ferrets are different so be careful. Also you could make a dig box with rice (never instant) or dried pasta which is a lot of fun for them. They love tunnels, they love to dig, and they love to steal and stash small objects so the toys meet that criteria they’ll be happy lol

I got this one for my hedgie and she loves it. The fabric is nice and thick so it doesn't tear or pull on her nails and quills. She pretty much exclusively sleeps in this and ignores all her other beds/hides.

Fuck, now I really want a mini tent for my sister's dogs.

I would line the floor pans with more fleece. One layer will be fine if they aren't heavy chewers. This gives them extra cushion on their feet and makes the whole cage a cozy place to nap.

If you do this, I'd also suggest a slab of some sort. I use countertop samples, but slabs of granite etc. are easy to purchase at a Home Depot or other DIY type store. This will provide a solid, cool surface to lounge on as well as keep the fleece anchored in that corner.

Tunnels! My ratties love their plastic, pvc, and cardboard tunnels. An alternative would be to use an empty tube of Quaker oats and punch out the bottom. Just throw them away after a few days to avoid grossness.

Scrap the wheel. If you can, try to get a solid plastic wheel without any wire. The wire wheels can catch their toes, tails, etc. They're also harsh on the bottoms of their feet.

Hammocks and hanging fleece tubes of all kinds are highly recommended. To name a few:

Parrot toys and ladders also work well, just be sure they aren't made of pine. Pine is toxic to rats. Other types of "Soft Wood" are also harmful (softwood trees are cedar, Douglas fir, juniper, pine, redwood, spruce, and yew). Products and tree branches made of these are not safe to use in the cage.

Especially for young rats, it's important to let them climb. A thick rope, such as this parrot perch are excellent climbing toys. The clips attach firmly to any wall of the cage.

You can get as creative or as simple as you like!

Thanks, here is the Amazon link for the shark bed. It comes in Gray too, I think. I got size medium which is perfect. It's very sturdy and well-made. It has a couple of other features including a removable plush cushion. You just have to wash the cushion if they pee on it.
Had it a week, and so far I don't need to wash anything yet.

If you only have large adult rats get size large. Butch is the runt of the litter, and he will always be small. I don't think he will outgrow his size medium shark.

The absolute best thing I ever bought my boys was a small dog bed for rodents. The two of them used to cuddle up in there together, and it felt like a little home outside of the cage. I loved having one or two around because it was like a towel, only better. Whenever I would take my pigs out of their cage, they would be transported in this little cup. It became their safe space when in the big scary world :)) Easy to wash in the washing machine as well and lasted forever!

they sell ferret tents on amazon! they come with a tiny boonie cap. my cat was cool with it for a while

My apartment can be quite chilly so I give my boys a lot of extra bedding. I have a lot of rags on hand (some old clothes and things that I've cut up) and I make sure they have them so that they can drag them wherever they want to curl up and snooze. I recommend this tent although it can get a little stinky if you don't clean it.
