As far as discipline is concerned, just remember that bunnies are not like cats or dogs. The do NOT understand at all negative feedback, like yelling or say no or being locked up when they misbehave. That could just undermine the trust between you and the bunny. Instead they do understand positive reinforcement, thus to “discipline” it is best to build positive associations and redirect their behavior to thing that are allowed in a way that makes them want to do the good things, vs not want to do the bad things for fear of being punished...See here http://bunnyproof.com/living-with-a-house-rabbit/how-to-discipline-your-house-rabbit.

You need to get a more secure gate in your case. Bunnies are curious naturally and they won't to explore... like you cannot not stop a dog or child (unless you get them both to the point where they are just terrified of you overall) you won't be able to stop a bunny. Btw plastic is really bad for them to chew on also... so get a better baby gate that can be anchored to the wall with either tension on screws so he can't get through. You can also glue/secure some sturdy cardboard to the inside of the gate you have so he doesn't chew the plastic.

Now when he starts trying to chew and get through anyways, this is were you redirect! You offer him a toy or a chew that he likes instead and when he does take it you give him a little treat or a piece of favorite green as a reward. You do this many times to reinforce that chewing on things that are allowed is good and results in yummies. Of course you need to make sure he has enough things around to actually keep him from getting bored and wanting to chew on stuff he should not... toys and things to stimulate his mind - they are smart and do get bored.

Bunny won’t stop chewing everything, what to do:

What might help is a few things:

  1. Positive reinforcement - trying to reward good habits with treats and redirect bad behavior like chewing on furniture to good behavior like chewing on a chew toy with a treat to build positive associations with good behavior. So every time you seem him try to chew or dig on something he should not, don't lock him up, but right away offer him a toy or thing that he can chew or dig on... then reward him with a tiny piece of treat.
  2. This brings me to my next point, purchase or make some alternatives for him to chew, dig, keep him entertained and occupied. A bored bunny will usually chew... There are tones of ideas which you can search the internet for and some I like are below, But the point I am trying to get across is that you need to make a bit of an effort to see what toys he likes and get.make him things to keep him occupied and entertained
    1. try to make him a dig box - use any box and fill it with shredded paper and see if he likes it - usually they do. you can also purchase some of those soft plastic balls like for kids and fill the box and he might like that too. experiment, but give him an alternative to dig

    4. Small pet select hay awesome toys to keep your bun entertained a bit pricey but will last a while and have great quality https://shop.smallpetselect.com/collections/natural-toys-and-chews-for-rabbits.
    5. https://store.binkybunny.com/toys--chews-c2.aspx - great toys here also, try some inexpensive sea grass balls, you can also find playhouses on this site bunnies love, etc
    6. https://www.farmerdavepetsupply.com/chew-sticks - these chew sticks are great for buns and you can always offer to him as a very yummy alternative to cords!
    7. Make your own toys also -https://www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/9j3lod/a_couple_people_requested_this_i_wish_i_was_able/ - watch this for how to make a homemade toy for loads of fun. Just hide treats in a toilet paper or paper towel roll and stuff with hay. You can also stuff a paper bag and give to bunny to try to open up and get inside (don’t use tape). https://www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/9n0li2/egg_carton_with_greens_a_great_toy/ - anther great toy idea: egg carton with greens or hay inside. Also you can put hay or pellets into a payer bag and tie it up and give to bun to figure out how to open. All of these will help keep the bun occupied.
    8. Buns love tunnels https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FWC277N/ref=crt_ewc_img_dp_9?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=APMR7WBX7KEK1
    9. Also try giving pellets in this treat ball https://www.chewy.com/ethical-pet-seek-treat-shuffle-bone/dp/56279?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=Ethical%20Pet&utm_term=&car-boost=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwrZLdBRCmARIsAFBZllG0sQsNiZdMa_Q8wOvVygC0S8qEBHkS9VYaQ_b3Sa6j7AQ6N0UuiLkaAvpAEALw_wcB

Hahaha! That's too cute!

But as a heads up, that kind of fluff is pretty controversial. There have been reports of hams getting tangled in it or digesting it and causing bowel impaction.

I'm not going to lie - my ham LOVES fluff so much that I couldn't really bear to take it away from him. So I did some research and started using Kapok shell fluff. The fibers are shorter, break very easily, and therefore not so much of a concern. You can find it at PetCo or order it online:

https://www.amazon.com/Kaytee-Kapok-Nest-Chew-Pack/dp/B06XSH5796

http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/rosewood-naturals-play-n-bedding-pods-2-pack (if you're in the UK)

However, if you search around, you'll find plenty of people arguing that Kapok silk is equally as dangerous as all other pet fluff. I personally disagree. But at the end of the day there's never been a study on it, or even of the different brands of fluff available.

Wooden platform (they easily bolt onto the cage wires)

Wooden log

Arch made of sticks: I have three of these in Max's cage and pens, they're great for hiding under and climbing over. If you wedge some small seeds in between the sticks it will encourage scratching.]

Wooden wheel: these are good because it's the constant rubbing of the claws through running that gets them and keeps them a nice length

Wooden rainbow: you can get one with colours as well

Wooden seesaw

You can use a wooden ramp or ladder. If you use it between the ground and a shelf or two shelves

Another.

Other accessories: again squashing little seeds in between the woven parts should encourage scratching to get it out

Also a good idea might be to look up some rat safe treat recipes and make a little ratty goodie bag for them (banana chips, oats, dried pasta, certain seeds, etc.)

Sorry about the creeping - I was mainly looking at your user history to see if you have ever posted anything about your gerbil before. I thought I might be able to give you better advice if I knew more about her.
What kind of houses to you give her that she chews up overnight? This is what my gerbils house looked like after about You could get her a house made out of hard wood or a coconut shell. My gerbils love both to hang out. I've also seen people use a flower pot with a hole. You'd also have to supply her with something to actually built a nest. Plain, unscented toilet paper would be good enough. She'll shred it and built her nest out of it.
You can also give her sticks you find outside to chew on. If you want to, I could try explaining how to make sure they are safe and mite-free. The safest way, however, would be to buy sticks like these, even though they are sort of expensive.

I would really recommend more bedding so she can burrow.

Best thing I could find (10.7 x 18.4 x 8)

The only thing I would worry about is the little ones chewing on the coating, this size should cover 1/3 long ways.

Also you may be able to use the hooks on this not only as a stand but you could make very small holes and hook it to add even more room.

However if this doesn't work, you could add adhesive hooks so you can use cage hooking items like this

If the hooks aren't what you want then you can add items like these:

I really hope this will help you and the little ones out!

We've had this before, it's not nearly large enough for a hiding place. It makes a good wall/ramp/chew though.

Niteangel wooden house (unfortunately out of stock)

Etsy has a lot of chinchilla ledges, bridges and other cage accessories, definitely check them out. Shipping can be really slow though but the quality is worth it.

We also have a penny candy jar we're trying to train him to get into for transport since he hates being picked up but he mostly just likes perching on top of it at the moment.

Penn Plax Coconut Cabana Small Animals Hide-Out https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002DK5RS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_f31fzbNRF410S you can also buy some twine on Amazon as an add on item if you don't have any at home for $3 and it works perfectly for hanging the hide, all I did was tie a knot through the coconut and hang it through the terrariums lid.
