(Part 2) Best smartwatch accessories according to redditors

First, I have ran the gambit of smartwatches; Two OG Pebbles, a second gen Apple Watch, a 3rd gen apple watch, six or seven Fitbit Versas (don't get me started on those things), a 4th Gen Explorist HR, 4Th gen Fossil Sport, and now, the 5th Gen Carlyle.

I've enjoyed this watch so far. It is fast. Huge leaps faster than my sport or explorist. I find myself actually using the watch to respond to texts, use Google Assistant, check the weather and more now. Battery is still settling in, but so far, no big issues. Took off charge at 242PM yesterday, (in daily mode, with Google Assistant detection turned off, Tilt to Wake Off), and put in to theater mode around 1030PM last night.

Woke up at 620AM this morning to 44% battery left. So, 16 hours off the charge, with 56% battery drained. Roughly 3.x percent an hour, not bad for the first day of usage.

I'd say 35-40 notifications, assistant used four or five times, messed with complications and watch faces a few times.

EDIT : Battery just died. 23 hours and 40 minutes on a single charge. Day one.

EDIT : Put on charger at 224PM, was fully dead. As of 324PM, battery has charged to 96%. So, one hour, charged from 1% to 96%. I don't recall either my sport or explorist charging near that quick.

Edit : Day 2. Took of charge at 4PM yesterday. Did a two hour workout, and used sleep as Android to track my sleep last night. Put on charge this AM at 7ish with 40ish percent on the battery. Took off charge at 8:30AM. Currently at 63%, nine hours later. Dropping am average of 7% an hour, which doesn't seem right. Battery isn't lasting today like it did the first day.

Standard watch lugs.

These are the crappy ones. The screws come loose, and they fall apart. You must check & maintain them by tightening the screws on a routine, regular basis. They're a big pain.

Just be careful with the bands that have metal buckles or clips that connect to the Apple Watch, some are known to break, especially the cheaper ones. I honestly never use the brown leather band because I’m paranoid. Just make sure you read the reviews.

Tempered glass protectors only cover the middle flat part of the screen and look crappy. But, flexible plastic screen protectors work great IMO.

Best screen protectors I’ve ever used for the watch

Hey bro! I'm also a firefighter, and I use the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro. It basically turns the Apple Watch into a G-Shock. I absolutely love it! It's been to hell and back with me, no holds barred, and my Series 2 is still flawless. No concern at all when I use it.
The product page says "compatible with 2015 model Apple Watch", but I spoke to the manufacturer before I tried putting it on my Series 2, and their engineers had just spoken with Apple about the dimensions. It's good to go. I won't use any other case for my watch.

Try giving this a shot. Sounds like it should work for what you need. I have one and it works great for fitness tracking, should help you close those rings.

LEO here. I bought a series 1 about a month ago and haven't had any issues. I sometimes bang my watch going into people's houses or any tight spots and it's still holding strong. A bunch of the guys in my command have Apple watches as well. Some without any protection and I haven't heard any complaints. I decided to use a Spigen case on mine. Had a similar scratch on mine. I put a skin screen protector on it. Definitely made it less noticeable. The skin is nearly invisible if applied properly, and is actually pretty easy to put on.

I have that one in black for my Frontier and it's terrific. I prefer the band look overall to yours, and has a similar hidden clasp. Just offering this up for others looking for this type of band, definitely not a criticism of your purchase. It's great of you to share your option!

I have a case and screen protector on mine. I try to keep mine looking fancy so I can sell them the next year and buy the new one with very little out of pocket. I bought both my case and screen protector on Amazon. I'm happy with both. I don't LOVE the case, but I have whacked this thing on just about everything already, because I bought the big one, despite my small wrists. I am hoping that more stylish cases come out. I also keep AppleCare on my 4, where I didn't keep it on my 3. Something about that extra $70 really pushed me over the edge.

This band is quite comfortable, but I may switch out to the black leather one. Installing the band was an exercise of frustration - following the V-Moro install video didn't help at all, and I spent about half an hour trying to get the bands to fit. I finally got them on by installing them "backwards." Instead of doing the normal way of putting on the non-lever side first than fiddling with the pin to get it in, I installed it lever side first, then used a 1/16 jeweler's flathead screwdriver to pop the other side in. Worked soooo much easier.

I saw the 6-8 week shipping time and decided to go with this Truffol instead. Glad I did, the quality is stunning.

For Milanese, I got this and this (obviously not both for my watch). I got this link band, my only complaint is it is a little heavy, but I have seen lighter ones I would consider. I got this leather one and love it. I wanted a learther band without the contrasting thread so this one was perfect. Like any leather band, it is definitely a bit deformed around where it buckles together, but you can only see it when not wearing it and it looks great the rest of the time. Next leather band I would probably look for a padded one though.

I have the Supcase and it is similar. It is my daily wearer and the favorite of 5 inexpensive bands I bought along with the watch when I got it in January. It is nice, comfortable and reminds me of all my G-Shocks. Highly recommended.

The part that connects a normal band to an Apple Watch. There are two styles:

• tubular: the type you find on Apple's leather bands
  
  
• spring bar: these are more like the kind you find on "normal" watches. I actually prefer this type because it opens up the number of straps you can use.
  
  Edit: I just pulled the first searches from Amazon that were examples of the types. If you search around you can get better deals. I bought 5 sets of 2 spring-bar lugs from eBay for $12 total a few months ago.

I got this Spigen Liquid Air for the 44mm instead of the Ringke and I really like how it looks. It protects the sides of my watch without looking bulky. If you like it, then I hope it's available in your country

Got this leather band from Amazon for around $10. Looks great on my Apple Watch, also Space Grey Aluminum.

Been wearing it almost every day for a little over 2 weeks. Fits nice and snug into the watch -- I have no anxiety in the band failing and the watch falling off.

Leather seemed and smelled genuine, and has broken in very well. No tears or malformations in the band. Excellent quality.

I also just got this watch, my first Apple Watch, about a month ago. If you're in the market for Apple Watch accessories, do pick up the Skinomi screen protector pack. This specific brand and screen protector is widely praised throughout this subreddit for its value, quality, ease of installation, and next-to-invisible look. I was skeptical at first because I did not want to ruin the look of my beautiful watch with its classy leather band, but trust me when I say this: you cannot tell there is a screen protector on with that product. If installed correctly, which is easy and foolproof due to its wet install procedure, the protector will shape and smooth itself out and become practically invisible. Feels fine on the finger too. And $7 for a 6-pack? Tremendous value. I don't foresee myself needing to change out the protector for a long time. The Apple Watch is a pricey fashion accessory and utility that is strapped to your wrist and is prone to bump into stuff, even with utmost care. Protect its integrity and resale value with a cheap screen protector.

It looks nice but is really lightweight so if that's not your thing stay away, I prefer heavier bands but I bought this back when I was still expecting my Pebble Time 2 to come mail so the return window closed.

Mine will usually be ok for a while until i eventually swing my arm and whack something with my watch. Usually on a door or door jamb, the metal pieces on the outer edges has got me several times.

So now im always sporting a screen protector but have never had sensitivity issues at all. Works really well actually. Currently using this particular protector which was a little bit of a pain to learn how to put it on but once i figured it out it’s been probably the best protector I’ve had over the years.

The magnetic milanese strap is extremely high quality. It matches the color of the Huawei watch perfectly, and makes the watch look like a million bucks.
The magnet is pretty strong, and is keeping the watch tightly on my wrist no matter how hard I shake or swing my arms.
I like that there is not any branding on the stap, makes it look much cleaner than the Hoco bands.
The mesh is identical to that of the apple watch milanese band, and that is a definite plus. It is in fact the soft mesh, not the tough mesh that comes on the milanese bands with a buckle.
My only Con, and it is by no means enough to even remove half a star, is that the band is a little difficult to apply to the watch. Firstly, the little release sticks that hold the strap to the watch are a little thicker than they need to be, so it takes some force to get them in. After that you must make sure that they are perfectly centered in the strap, if not it will appear that the strap is too wide for the watch...it is not. If centered perfectly, the part of the strap that connects to the top of the watch is easy, connecting the second one is tricker, however if you position your fingers in just the right spot to pull back the release bar until you can get the pins in the holes, you are golden.

I’ve been using this same Spigen case for three years now. I bought it when I got my Series 1 Watch and it has carried over to my Series 3. I also bought one for my girlfriend when she got hers. No issues whatsoever, and it’s protected my watches from all the bumps and other unfortunate contact they’ve had to deal with. A proverbial knock on wood will follow this, but I’ve never had a screen scratch, crack or any case damage whatsoever.

As someone already mentioned, I purchased the following 37mm and it fits perfectly. Others say the 37.5mm fits even better but I'm not quite sure how it could- but hey, sounds like both do the job. This is the product from Ringke. I can take a shot from an angle later today. It does not look obvious that it is a stick on accessory. In fact when I show my watch to other people, they can never tell it is a separate accessory.

The adhesive for the bezel is one time use, so once you remove it, it cannot be reused.

I got this one, so far I really like it. It is nice and soft to the touch, some people have complained about its length (too long) but for $10 I decided to give it a shot.

I have a similar one to your 2nd example. The Spigen Tough Armor. It includes a built-in screen protector. It's working well so far.

I also considered your first example, but was concerned that it might scratch the watch after sliding it on/off repeatedly.

I don't really like the look of screen protectors as I can usually see the edges and, IMO, they take away from the look of the device and screen quality. I also don't want to have my watch in a case full time. However, I wanted something to protect my watch when working in the yard, on the car, etc. This case was the best I could find to protect both the screen and the watch. It's fairly easy to put on/take off. It looks good enough that I could leave it on for a quick trip in to town if I didn't want to bother taking it off right away.

I could not find many options that included the built in screen protection. I wish I could find something comparable that would not require me to remove the band to install/uninstall .
I would also like to have one that was easy to install/uninstall and covered the digital crown to keep out dust when mowing, etc.

Twelve South makes a nice sports arm band that should fit your need.

I use an Armor suit protective film and a Spigen rugged armor case. The film has adhered well and the case is fairly protective.

That's my experience, as well. Its integration is much cleaner than the Pebble's integration, and since I'm getting ~34 hours out of the battery on the Apple Watch, it's good enough.

I'm currently using this case with it; I've ordered this waterpoof case and will switch to it when it arrives. One of my few gripes about the Apple Watch is the fact that it isn't waterproof; I've forgotten that it was on my wrist and showered with it a couple of times, and then obsessively toweled it off, praying that I didn't get water inside it (so far, it's OK).

The notification integration is really slick. When I'm wearing the watch, it's smart enough to automagically limit most notifications (except an incoming call) to the watch in vibrate mode, and to not make any audible alerts on the phone, even though the ringer switch is enabled. One can alter this, if one likes, but it suits me perfectly.

The volume on the 'Dick Tracy mode' phone audio speaker should be louder, IMHO. And I'm hoping for longer battery life, inherent waterproofing, and wireless charging (so I can leave it on my wrist when I'm sleeping; silent vibrating alarms/alerts are very nice, so that I don't wake my girlfriend up when I get a late-night call, or when I must wake up early) in the next version.

Quick SMS and IM replies from my wrist are very helpful, when I'm out and about. I haven't yet used the Siri dictation, but have defined a number of canned replies, and so far, those have sufficed.

Overall, it's quite useful even as a first-gen Apple product, and I'm glad I have it.
