91 octane gas (no ethanol) will help, keep the carb free of deposits.
I typically used a single 10 litre gas can for an entire winter. This included being neighbourly and doing other driveways when people were away.
Electric start helps when it’s minus 30.

This one works well.... https://www.amazon.ca/Briggs-Stratton-1696619-Dual-Stage-Electric/dp/B00YMMCP8W/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=snow+blower&qid=1570844964&sr=8-7 —-Picked one up for my father in law. Trouble free for 3 years so far.

The craftsman 24-28 inch dual stage with the snow king engines are a great used value. I bought one and used it for 5 years and sold it for what I paid for it.

We recently purchased a Troy-Bilt 2100 and it's really nice. It's single stage, but the impeller is designed so that if you tilt it up slightly it will pull itself across the concrete. This also means you get a very close and clean plow on your surface. Personally, I would not purchase a 2 stage unless I lived further out in a rural area. You're not going to want to get a 2-stage out for a few inches, and a single stage gas will handle MOST everything you get except in very rare circumstances. https://smile.amazon.com/Troy-Bilt-Squall-208cc-Single-Stage-Thrower/dp/B00IOXIGN8

Our driveway is extremely steep, and this single stage is just fine for us (plus I wouldn't want to be pushing a 2-stage up that incline). The only issue we have had so far is the concrete mix that the plow left us yesterday, which we had to chop up a bit with a shovel first.

The location where I believe the model number was is damaged and I cant read it. I can't for the life of me find my manual for it. I am going to look for something comparable online.

I don't know much about this area, so after cursory attempt at research, I've got a couple questions since you seem to know it:

  • The [top-rated electric blower on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJ627E-Electric-Headlight/dp/B075NMXLSS/
) is 15A at 120V... that comes to (15A 120V =) 1.8kW. A household dryer circuit is (30A 240V =) 7.2kW, so it'd easily drive that snowblower. Why does the direct calculation of wattage come out so differently from a horsepower-to-wattage conversion (750W/hp)?

  • That same blower's specs advertise a snow displacement of 800 pounds/minute, which seems like a reasonable spec to compare, but I couldn't find mention of displacement on the top-rated (with a similar width) snow blower on either Amazon or Home Depot. Is that a bad spec to compare over HP?
