A multitude of reasons.
It just baffles me that Capcom is treating it like it's some huge risk and liability when the series has historically done much better than they predicted and even more niche games do fine as well. At the very least, they could do an incredibly small print for those that want it (pre-orders and then a little bit of excess for store shelves) and then let the eShop handle the rest for those that don't care. Everyone wins there. Capcom doesn't print too many copies that may not sell, those that want the game on a cart get it and those that don't care can get it on the eShop.

Rune Factory 4 | Metacritic (78/8.0) | 3DS - $39.99 USD
---
> Rune Factory 4 is a game I always wanted to try, but never got around to justifying the $40 price tag. Luckily after a few trades in at the local game store a fresh copy happened to be traded-in by someone else and I was able to snag it half off.
> A fun game, and true to its predecessor’s tagline, “A fantasy Harvest Moon”. The game focuses on farming, monster raising, and dungeon crawling. Though the curve is a little weird to get used too, I felt I very quickly pushed to level 50 in the first act, all within the first Spring. Then quickly became underpowered with less than 49 levels and two out of three acts to go. Perhaps it is because the RPG portion feels a little forced. For me, I think the game really shines in relationship building mechanics, and managing your status with the townspeople. The farming feels familiar, and is very similar to Harvest Moon, however, the monster raising portion is odd. You can essentially just grab the Cow, Sheep and Chicken monster and be set, the “item” monsters and plants which spawn weapons and armor are something I have yet to exploit in detail, but they did add their own flavor to the game. Additionally the crafting mechanics for cooking, forging and sewing are fun, and interesting, though the actually interaction that goes on during the doing of such action is not noticeably stimulating. Overall I think if you enjoy Harvest Moon you will enjoy this game. If you do not, this game probably will grab you with a 35:65 ratio.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable | Metacritic (89/9.0) | PSP - $19.99 USD
---
> I recently decided the Persona franchise was one which I felt deeply remorseful in having missed. As such, due to my recent acquisition of a used PSP in great condition, I decided to start with Persona 3 Portable, as I have heard very little about Persona 1 or 2. Additionally, I have heard that the first two games in no way, other than elements and mechanics, relate to 3 and 4.
> So Persona 3 Portable, an interesting game, it plays very much so like a point and click style game on the PSP, with a strong resemblance to typical Visual Novel games. However, this true with the exception of the combat portion of the game, this part of the game is essentially dungeon crawling and is done in an isometric fashion. Though combat itself does not seem to be anything too shockingly different from standard ATB. Though, similar to the previous statement, there is an exception, more so involving some of the finer mechanics used.
> This includes Personas, which can be thought of as both a Summon and a piece of equipment, similar to FFX-2's garment system or Golden Sun's Djinn system, in which the Summon equipped defines your abilities. Additionally there is the fact that there is a huge focus on weakness and critical strikes, which not only do more damage but allow you to simply just do more. I spent roughly ten hours grinding the in this game, it was quite fun, though repetitive.
> Now you may be asking, why the grind? Well, suffice to say the game takes place in largely two different worlds, one is essentially a visual novel experience, balancing school and after school activities, basically playing the life of a Japanese High School student as depicted in most anime. In this world you build relationships, which can strengthen your Personas, and advance plot points. The other world is essentially a dungeon crawler, you are attempting to scale a dungeon of some XXX amount of floors, but can only do it so often, before tiring or getting sick. I would say the high school life simulator portion is far more interesting than the dungeon portion.
> However, after consulting some FAQs, all I can say is that to perfect this game, there is a very stringent order to how you perform certain tasks, things that you must do and not mess up. Additionally, as fun as this game is, I had to put it down. I'll describe this a bit more in the next section.

Shin Megami Tensei:Persona 3 FES | Metacritic (89/9.0) | PS2 - $16.16 USD
---
> Now, FES, is what I am currently playing. After consulting the aforementioned guides I found out that the FES release was a PS2 version which included a story expansion, and had all the cut scenes displayed in both the character cut-in visual novel style, and the 3D model style at the same time. Far more immersive than the Portable version in my opinion. Additionally FES has far more animated cut scenes, essentially anime. The tradeoff however is no female options for the protagonist, a purely portable feature, and far stricter requirements to perfecting the game such as tiring during trips to the aforementioned dungeon portion, rather than after.
> All in all, thus far I prefer this version leagues over the portable version.

Insurgency | Metacritic (74/8.5) | Steam -
$14.99$7.49 USD---
> After reading the post this week by one dedicated submitter here on /r/games, I decided to download this game and give it a try. My experience thus far has been great. I absolutely love the game, and it definitely has filled in the gap I felt from a lot of the shooters in my library. The realistic approach and game types offered a very fresh and extremely fun. Quite honestly, I could do no justice in my description of the game itself, and suggest you look at the aforementioned thread for more detail, found here, but I can say I get the same feeling playing Insurgency now, as I did playing Call of Duty 4 in its prime.
---
Strike Vector | Metacritic (73/8.1) | Steam -
$11.99$4.79 USD---
> Another free weekend game, I had been keeping my eye on this game earlier this year, but it eventually dropped off my radar. I probably would not have even given it a try if I was not looking for Insurgency’s installer for the free weekend.
> A fun flight combat game. Reminds me of a PS2 game I played when I was younger, I think it might have been Macross? Regardless, it’s a blast, fast combat, versatile weapon choices and cool ships. My only complaint though is lag was definitely an issue in my experience with people rubber banding, and teleporting around, something I haven’t suffered in my other games. This just may have been due to a lack of any nearby servers. However, in the end I felt it was worth the $5.00 USD price tag, and can see myself poking my head in every now and then.
---
Nosgoth | Metacritic (?/5.8) | Steam -
$4.99$2.49 USD---
> Again, while looking for the installer for Insurgency I saw this game, and after playing Strike Vector I decided it might also be another fun game. Not so much. From the store page I was expecting something similar to the old Free-To-Play game Rakion. (Which if anyone knows where I can play that game now, let me know.) Instead it felt like a very poorly balanced arena fighter with a Dungeon Defender combat system. Quite honestly I thought it was poorly done, but looked fantastic. I would not highly recommend it to anyone in the future.
What are you waiting for? The Final Fantasy Tactics enhanced port (The War of the Lions) is available on PSP discs, PSN for PSP/PSVita, iOS, and most recently Android.
This game sounds super cool and I want to know what it is too, so I searched around a bit, is it this?
http://www.amazon.com/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Persona-Innocent-Sony/dp/B00523VFJU
Original title "Monster Hunter Freedom Unite gets cooking on iOS, out now"
gets changed to:
"Monster Hunter Freedom Unite gets cooking on iOS, out now.. for a steep price"
__
$15 isn't that steep considering the enhanced graphics, touch screen controls and multiplayer online.
You can always go for the PSP version at $15 if you want the initial experience.

Edit: There's always MONSTER HUNTER Dynamic Hunting if you want a cheaper Monster Hunter at $4.99.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/monster-hunter-dynamic-hunting/id428887661?mt=8
You may want to look into Brave story: new traveller as it's a fairly good turn based rpg. I'm also going to shamelessly plug the monster hunter series, as it's what got the most play time by far on my psp.
I see $4.99 on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Mega-Man-Maverick-Hunter-Digital/dp/B018RKRGYW?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o00_ Oh wait PS Plus members get it even cheaper! :P 10% Extra

Isn't that everything that isn't "period?"
I mean if that's the only criteria you'd be better off with TORG and the anarchistic interdimensional anachronism stew. :Þ
"Torg is set in a near future setting, known officially as "the near now." At the game's starting point, this world has been subjected to an interdimensional invasion by a series of "High Lords" who have changed the natural laws of large swaths of Earth to reflect those of their home dimensions. The players assume the role of "Storm Knights", people from Earth and the various invading realms, who possess limited reality altering abilities and oppose the plans of the High Lords.
Player characters were all "Storm Knights." These were people who were able to alter reality in limited ways. Storm Knights came from all of the different realities in the game, but opposed the invaders for various reasons. Some of the Storm Knights were natives of the invaders' home worlds, and some were natives of Earth who had "flipped" to the invaders' reality. A person became a Storm Knight by experiencing a reality crisis which linked them to a particular reality.
The primary way in which Storm Knights were able to shape reality is the ability to impose the rules of their own reality on a limited area of another reality. Each reality, or "cosm," has a set of four "axioms," which delineate what could be achieved under its rules. The most important of these for gameplay were the technological, magical, and spiritual axioms. For ordinary people, violating the laws of a reality is hard, and becomes increasingly impossible over time. For example, when the Neolithic reality of The Living Land invaded North America, soldiers found that their guns and radios no longer worked because the tech-axiom of the cosm only allowed for a Neolithic level of technology. Storm Knights, however, carried their own reality with them. Normally, they could perform under their own reality wherever they went, sometimes requiring a check against their reality skill, the one skill possessed by all Storm Knights, to accomplish feats which particularly violated the rules of a reality."
Current campaign involves a gun-toting cowboy squid monster and his hoverbike riding samurai buddy trying to help a mono-eyed necromancer ogre kid find his adoptive Lich mother who was abducted by Bechtel to raise all the people they killed in Bolivia as an army to invade the Living Land and exploit its 30% freshwater surface. [cough] you can get pretty ridiculous, which is why it's pretty popular in Asia.
Also there's a nifty meta mechanic meant for very large/multiple groups running parallel where rumours spread often enough bend reality on their own to become true, which naturally make the media (and any worlds advanced enough for the net obviously) and any cults in control of them even more dangerous than in real life! (And you thought South Korea had problems before! Persona 2 is a good example of one game which utilised this. Some can be downright comical. It's hard to do but you could potentially wipe someone/thing out of existence if everyone can be convinced they don't actually exist or had recently passed, ala those tabloid celebrity headlines about reclusive actors.)
The PSP / Vita version kept the difficulty of the original and it isn't a 3D port it's updated 2D sprites which I prefer. http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-IV-The-Complete-Collection/dp/B004LLRYOY
Just in case you didn't know, we actually did get an updated Tactics Ogre for the PSP.
I have sunk at least 300 hours into it, and when I finally learned how those forbidden weapons worked or whatever they were, another 50 trying to get decent ones.
That game is so fucking good.
Can amazon deliver to you? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002I0GZ5Y
Me search for Suwako-chan no Danmaku PyonPyon Daisansaku lead to several japanese retailers, inclunding Tora no Ana (Possible NSFW). And I recall ye mentioned Uniting Barrage Action originally, aye? Tis game be on PS4, so if ye have one plus a japanese PSN account all ye need to do is pay up with yer pieces of eight, down a bottle of rum, an' wait till it finishes downloading. If ye don't have a PS4, then Amazon JP might be of help, mate.
They made a new version for the PSP which would be the easiest to get. It's also on the Playstation Network.
May I present Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions?
Sho is my friend.
https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-Tactics-War-Lions-Sony/dp/B000SSPH3E
I think you need this first, followed by 2, 3 and 4! P4 also has an anime based on it, as does P3.
Oops, I got carried away and forgot to add an item....
Yes, but if you want it cheap. you have to get it online, shipping gets expensive across countries.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0007TS24U/ref=sr_1_2_twi_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1421072553&sr=8-2&keywords=vice+city+stories+psp
One example is Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment. The current fan translation effort for the game is only for the menus and item names but not for the actual story.
Thankfully both UMDS are really cheap. specially the first one
Final Fantasy
Chest hair Dandruff
Thanks for the contest!
The game really isn't worth all that much. I had a used copy (UMD only) and bought a new one years ago for like $12 or so...
Daxter [Standard Version] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ALWWHNA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_txyPCbSAJPVE0
They are releasing Final Fantasy Complete Edition next week.
It is Dracula X2: Nocturne in the Moonlight. originally on the PSX but there is a definitive version on the PSP with a new translation. You just gotta unlock the game first through the [Dracula X: Rondo of Blood remake] (https://www.amazon.com/Castlevania-Dracula-X-Chronicles-Sony-PSP/dp/B000R37S00). I would want another 2D Castlevania, but Konami is kind of dead and Igarashi already left Konami so he can make more games. Check out Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. There are youtube videos you can watch of the development. The game releases on 2018 and I am hoping Igarashi will allow some of us Wii U backers to change the funding for a Nintendo NS version since the Wii U platform is kind of dead.
There's this new game, Children of Zodiarcs, isn't quite available yet unless you Kickstarted it (I know, kickstarter is scary) but I have been playing it since it released in beta and it's solid so far. I'm not sure about story though since I'm not trying to follow it until the game is fully released, but your concern isn't story if you are talking FFT and Tactics Ogre - hopefully you've played [Let Us Cling Together] (https://www.amazon.com/Tactics-Ogre-Let-Cling-Together-Sony/dp/B003YVK5T8).
It introduces an odd card system where your attacks are based on card sets that you compile for each character. The cards are your abilities (attacks, spells, healing, etc.). This makes it a bit more interesting as in games such as FFT and Tactics Ogre - you could get OP with your full arsenal of abilities available. This also removes MP restraints which sucked in Tactics Ogre (again, a way to reduce the OP spellcasters).
It's another game that has been described by its creator as some sort of FFT descendant, so you always have to worry when that gets tossed around, but they actually have a playable game that is 100% complete gameplay wise. They said all that's left is some cleanup with story and such.
People like to hate Massive Chalice, but it's close-ish. The problem with that game is the lack of actual battle strategy (each character type basically has one way to play) and the insane amount of randomness. For a strategy game, the only act of randomness should be the accuracy of attacks, but there are too many factors that will ruin the game for you - add to that the "Fog of war" during actual battles (like xcom) and you have a rather frustrating game. I will say this though, Their system for breeding and raising your army should be stolen and added into some other game. Agarest with it's 20 generations should do something similar and sort of back off from the dating sim situation.
In a perfect world, someone would make an SRPG with Final Fantasy Tactics' job system, Massive Chalice bloodline system, and somehow, the Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor/War.
Normally it is $19.99.
On amazon, they are also selling it for PSP for $10 which is normally $20.
BTW, the game requires 1.10 GB free space.
If you like platformers:
http://www.amazon.com/Daxter-GH-Sony-PSP/dp/B000E0OCR8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293739239&sr=8-1
(It helps if you have some familiarity with the Jak & Daxter series, but is by no means required to enjoy the game.)
If you like side-scrolling adventure/platformer games:
http://www.amazon.com/Castlevania-Dracula-X-Chronicles-Sony-PSP/dp/B000R37S00/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1293739319&sr=1-1
It's essentially two games in one: You get the 2.5D remake of an older Castlevania game and Symphony of the Night. The only problem with SotN is that it's a rerecorded version, so it lacks the memorable dialogue, thus you'll have to enjoy it for the gameplay.
Reminds me of the Patapon 2 cloud monster.
Oh ok, I thought you meant like you would be busy and wouldn't be able to do it for a while. If it helps at all I can link to the book and the game
Trails In The Sky is out, what are you waiting for?? :D
And I don't see Oath In Felghana either!
This game is a bit complex, but kind of fits what you're talking about:
http://www.amazon.com/Monster-Hunter-Freedom-Unite-Sony-PSP/dp/B001HWF1OA
Monster Hunter is an open world rpg where you roam around killing monsters and crafting gear. If he's good at games and likes to tinker, he may enjoy this game quite a bit (even if he's not that great at games, if he's patient he will get better by playing this one), and it was universally regarded as one of the best games on the PSP.
Try this! http://www.amazon.com/Patapon-Downloadable-Game-Voucher-Sony-PSP/dp/B001OHUTQI
My favorite game probably of all time is Tales of the Abyss. I am a huge RPG fan and especially JRPGs and this one just had such a replay factor for me. I have played it 4 times over each save being at least 70 hours in so nearly 300 hours on the game. I think what makes me love it so much was the experience I had with my friends. The Tales series is the type of RPG that isn't turn base but a open field fighting type of system. With this system also allows you to play with other people that would control the other characters in your party. So not just replay factor but the fact I played it with my best friends just led to some of the funnest times in my life. Whenever we have 3 or even the max 4 of us we would turn up the difficulty to max and just fight all the bosses (had a lot of my save files for each play through right before major bosses) and just the constant dying and retrying to beat them with my friends was just hours of fun.
This game is the game I'd like. Along with the Tales series which is my favorite, the Kingdom Hearts series is pretty much my second favorite. However it's my best friend's favorite series and he has been bugging me to catch up on the Kingdom Hearts series. Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance are games I still need to play before Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out. So getting this game allows me to get a bit closer to catching up and talk/celebrate the series with my friend. Eggplant Wizard (is an interesting phrase any reason for choosing it?) and thank you for an awesome contest!

Granted, if you want to go the legal route, you'll need a PSP w/ CFW to rip the ISO off the UMD yourself. Or you could just buy the games, then download the ISO, and call it a compromise. Or just download the games if you don't particularly care. I'm not your mum.
The platform doesn't matter.
Maybe if people like you didn't pirate, the PSP wouldn't have suffered the same fate it did
And if you couldn't find it new, You clearly didn't look hard.
http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Theft-Liberty-Stories-Sony-PSP/dp/B0007TS24U/
Oh wait, you didn't look at all, your just using that as a excuse to pirate.
Fucking scumbag.
