I'm a white dude who lived in Korea for a while about 20 years ago.

Being a Korean american female in Korea will be harder for you than it was for me. Foreigners who look foreign are almost like celebrities--with all the benefits and drawbacks of that status.

Because Korea has been mono-ethnic for so long, they really have no conceptual framework for an ethnic Korean who can't speak the language or finds kochujang a little too spicy. You won't catch the breaks or forgiveness that other foreigners can catch.

I recommend reading Culture Shock: Korea. It's a book for expats. You grew up in a country where people wait in line, where kim chi is not a breakfast food, and lots of other concepts that Koreans don't share.

That said, I had gyopo (foreigner) friends who were Korean american who had a very enriching experience.

Although it is a bit dated, the Moon handbook (https://www.amazon.com/Moon-South-Korea-Handbooks/dp/1598800590) is by far the best guide to the country. I've seen them all, and there really isn't much comparison at all.. This book will teach you nearly everything about the country (not just Seoul and Busan and Gyeongju) and as long as you double check some of the lodging and restaurant information (that changes almost monthly anyways, especially in Korea) you will be far, far ahead of the average tourist with this book.

There is no way anyone can possibly answer a post as vague are yours, I mean come on. What are your interests? Where will you spend most of your time? Etc.

I'd just get that book, read it, and go from there.

Both of those things are a way to weed out applicants, but it's not totally mandatory at least on the part of the government. That said, very few unis will hire you without a Masters degree, but it is really possible to get a job with a Masters but no uni experience.

Search on Amazon for my book, "How to Get a University Job in South Korea: the English Teaching Job of Your Dreams." You will probably find it helpful.
