I sympathize with you. I used to work outside and I did so for a very long time just with a ball cap and sunscreen. Had I known back then what I know now I would have been wearing the biggest, dumbest looking hat I could find. I now own a couple big sun hats and I've realized that the more ridiculous the hat looks the better for sun protection and overall tolerance of a hot, sunny day.

May I present to you the Sun Protection Zone Booney hat and my favorite which happens to be the dumbest looking, the Adam's Extreme Condition hat.

I don't work outside anymore, thankfully, but I do a lot of fishing and I still rock these hats when fishing and working on my property. In addition to wearing these god awful things I also wear a Freeze Zero Neck Gaiter. The neck gaiter especially helps when being on the water. Hats don't help when the suns blasting you from down below. I also wear long sleeve sun shirts. Take your pick on brand, I've found they're all pretty much the same. Hanes has the cheapest I've found and work great.

Aside from not getting baked by the sun which is always a miserable experience, one of the biggest positives is how much less fatigued I am after being in the sun all day. I can remember just passing out after taking a shower after being beat on by the sun. Not so anymore.

Also, I know someone might think all that stuff is hot to wear, but it's really not. Instead of that "I'm in the sun and my arms are starting to cook, wow it's getting hot, my face is melting, everything stings" heat - it's more like a warm heat all day. This post went a lot longer than I anticipated. I fucking hope this helps someone.

Edit: broken link. Longest post ever. I didn't realize how passionate I was about sun protection.

My friend seriously wears one of these with giant sunglasses.

There's a bit of trial and error with figuring out which sunscreen will work for you. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch always broke me out, even when I just used it on my arms and legs. The Clear Face version doesn't cause acne for me but feels like it's burning my skin when I apply (or I'm rubbing too hard since it takes a while to spread and absorb). I try to find some skin twins to narrow down what may work for me. I always worry about my favorite sunscreens being discontinued or reformulated.

Totally YMMV: I have combination/dehydrated skin and the Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence really works well for me though I haven't tried the 2019 formulation yet. Others that I like are one of the Nivea (Japan) ones, Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV, and Skin Aqua Tone Up UV. I have about 4 others waiting in the wings to be test, lol. I also bought some Alba Organics kids sunscreen while on vacay. Feels like buttercream, smells a bit a like fruity buttercream, and spreads so easily - just too greasy for my face.

My biggest tip is to use a sweat-wicking helmet liner. It will absorb the sweat from your forehead and wick it away from the electronics while you're playing while allowing it to evaporate and cool you. While you still have to deal with some sweat, that double punch reduces the amount significantly

EDIT: Since I was asked, these are the ones I got. I'm certain there are better out there, but these were cheap and effective - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012O1C2Q2/

I bought this back when Beat Saber came to PCVR to keep the sweat from dripping into my eyes. It's been pretty much essential in securing the quest strap to the back of my head with it missing any friction with it just being the plastic and no foam or cloth back there like on other headstraps.

Google “Everest Designs hats.” I bought one from them a few years back that looks exactly like this!

Here’s an example of what they sell on Amazon—wrong color, but there are a bunch to pick from.

> Baseball hats are usually worn by people who are going to be outside for a while and want the sun protection

Baseball hats suck for sun protection. The brim only covers a small angle. For sun, you want something like this.

u/jmoriarty · 2 pointsr/phoenix

What kind of headgear do you have on? I wear a sun hat and it helps a ton.

u/TickingTimeBum · 2 pointsr/AskMen

I sweat like crazy. I have a bald head though. I use this skull cap thing and it works great. Also it fits under a hat or a motorcycle helmet.

Check out the pictures of it. It’s got a little rubber thing in the front that stops sweat from running down your face.

u/hvyboots · 2 pointsr/bicycling

Halo skull cap FTW! Plus it's got the sweat redirecting thingie in it.

https://www.amazon.com/Halo-Headbands-Skull-Cap-Black/dp/B00318BKGQ Halo hats. Keeps your hair from getting all messed up (aka the reverse mohawk), ventilates great, is made for use with helmets, and that rubber strip in the front really helps anchor the Vive to your head more.

It isn't the Seattle 138 beanie but if you are just looking for one as a cosplay/fashion item and not a a collectible then this is about as close as you are gonna get. I have one like it and its a good quality beanie, plus it looks like the one Delsin has, sans the logo

u/barely_a_vapor · 1 pointr/ftm

Probably nothing you haven’t already thought of. Maybe try out one of these hats https://www.amazon.com/Mission-Enduracool-Competition-Cooling-Charcoal/dp/B01F6R605K?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_7

Ok, the lady/man with the red visor behind homeplate...is that one of those visors that has the fake hair? (like this) I swear it is.

u/yuribotcake · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I had an issue where the padding was making my ears fold down. Became very annoying once I installed Sena. Then to top it off, my glasses would apply even more pressure on the back of the ears. I ended up getting Skull Cap Beanies. And that would tuck my ears closer. So much more comfortable. Plus it keeps my padding cleaner. As for glasses, I just jam them next to my ear and not over. They stay in place nicely.

But looks like your helmet doesn't fit your head right.

u/Suiken01 · 1 pointr/CarTrackDays

Thanks for that. It has to be natural fiber and can't be synthetic right? Or fire will melt it to the skin etc. A lot of them are polyester. What do you guy think about this one https://www.amazon.com/Headshion-Skull-Cap-Multifunctional-Headwear/dp/B07P1FXRYV/ref=sr_1_20_sspa

You're catching a bit of a beating in this thread. But I suspect it's because most of us were in a very similar place to you when we first started to attend to our style of dress. You don't have to replace everything at once. I'd probably advise against it actually, that often leads to a lot of regretted purchases. This is all basically stuff to keep in mind going forwards as you purchase clothes to replace what you've already got, or buy items for specific occasions. /r/frugalmalefashion is a good subreddit to subscribe to. My middle-aged scalp is starting to get a higher dose of sunlight these days.

I'm very happy with this hat purchase from Amazon. It has plenty of ventilation and the bill of the cap is plastic, so it can go right in the wash.

I wear silk long underwear, a cotton Union suit (the old timey one piece long underwear with or without the butt flap) over that. Long sleeve shirt over that. Packer tshirt. Nice warm coat, preferably something with a wind/water resistant shell.

I use one of these hats:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004GFMLMA/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?pc_redir=T1

They're awesome because you can configure from a cap to full face coverage or just a neck warmer depending on how warm or cold you get. Seriously I love this style of hat.

Good socks and good boots. I've got an ass kicking pair of Sorels rated to like 60 below zero. I was at the last regular season game of the year last year (Steelers) during a blizzard and my feet were hot all day and all I wore was one regular pair of boot socks. No cardboard either. But if your boot/sock scenario isn't ideal you definitely want to put down a piece of cardboard. It will definitely make a difference on your feet with cold transference.

And then a good pair of gloves. I use a pair of wool mittens that have the flip up parts at the fingers so you can flip them up and use your fingers for things like grabbing money out of your wallet or digging your phone out of your pocket without having to take your gloves all the way off to do it.

u/RnRpax · 1 pointr/oculus

I use the VR cover basic set with the foam/pleather facial interface. For the headstrap i use this skull cap if its a really intense game. Earphones I've never had a problem with sweat (that I know of). For that you may want to use oculus earbuds instead.

u/fmalloy · 1 pointr/bikecommuting

Yep. I use a Halo skullcap version under the helmet:

https://www.amazon.com/Halo-Headbands-Skull-Cap-Black/dp/B00318BKGQ/

Yeah, it's expensive, but works great and I've been using the same one for 2 years now. It has a thin yellow rubber strip that sticks to your forehead so the sweat will never end up in your eyes.

u/Goldeneagle7777 · 1 pointr/oculus

I've got one of these that I use, and it works great! It also helps keep the HMD clean by keeping the oils or hair products from getting all over the straps.

u/southwade · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

Also, get yourself one of those sweat band skull cap things that footballers wear under their helmets. It really helped me.

Mine looks like this, although it was much when I bought mine.

Halo headbands manage your hair and redirect the river... Check out the rubber thingie

u/VirtualWeality · 1 pointr/Vive

i use the https://www.amazon.com/Halo-Headbands-Skull-Cap-Black/dp/B00318BKGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1509994986&sr=8-1&keywords=sweat+cap&dpID=41vogebE8QL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch and the 6mm fake leather foam pad, i sweat alot but i havent damage my headset yet, the cap helps capture alot of the sweats from your forehead so only your face sweat has any chance to get into hmd. combined with a fan blowing at your play space will help alot. Alot of people ask or wonder, if that skull cap will make you hotter, not really, the fabric on top is very breathable

u/meowfaceman · 1 pointr/bald

Thanks for the suggestion. This has been annoying because the simplest solution isn't straightforward for me. I ended up ordering this, which I think is in the same vein. I'll update with my findings here.
