here’s another cheap option, I don’t have this but I have some of their shorts and they’re great.

Here is a little guide I wrote for someone in a similar situation. (I am in the Boston area, too.)

Cotton = bad, especially as the bottom layer. It absorbs sweat and never lets go. After a little while, it clings, rubs, feels heavy, and can really irritate the skin. (My skins tends to be on the dry side. I was actually get mild hives from the irritation. According to the interwebs, this is caused by blocked sweat ducts.) So, having a wicking fabric is really important, especially as a base layer. I bought several of these DRI_EQUIP shirts, which are inexpensive and highly rated. I absolutely love them. I almost immediately bought some short-sleeved ones, too.

What I wear at different temperatures:

General advice — “Dress for the 2nd mile”.

50 and above — Short-sleeve shirt and shorts. Enough said.

Around 40-50 — long-sleeved shirt (possibly with a short-sleeve t-shirt on top) and shorts. My shorts are fairly long, so they cover up enough to be OK.

Around 30-40 — two long-sleeved shirts, running pants, gloves and hat. The hat is good for taking on/off to regulate a little bit, if needed. I had the pants from when I used to bike. They are pretty light, cotton (which I guess might be bad, but I haven’t had the same issues as with shirts.) Down around 30, I wear this terramar shirt that I bought as a warmer, wicking layer. I’ve been really happy with it as well.

Around 20-30 — same as above, but the hat and gloves stay on!

Below 20 — Add layers as needed. You'll be getting the hang of it. I will also wear a Buff over my face for a while when starting out, but usually don't need it after I'm warmed up.

There's a ton of sports clothes brands tha make clothes with SPF in them specifically for us poor souls that have to dig stuff up in the desert and then haul it around... If you're just running from a to b you could even get a long sleeve shirt that's a little too big and throw it on while walking outside https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0184DLVA2?psc=1 that was the first thing that came up to give you an idea

This. I highly recommend something in the Icebreaker Cool-Lite line. I specifically have it in button down form and it's amazing. Icebreaker Cool-Lite Compass Long Sleeve Shirt. I'm not sure what weight mine is.

I've actually worn this in August in Wisconsin\Michigan over a Icebreaker Cool-Lite t-shirt and I never felt too hot. Probably 70s. Though obviously better not over another shirt. I use it to protect against the sun and bugs so I don't need to carry and apply sunblock or insect repellent. Plus I can vent easy with the buttons.

Also used it in Colorado mountains in September as kind of a base layer.

Woolly - 180 gsm 100% merino fabric. I have a henley and tee from them that I very much enjoy.

u/jamall1978 · 2 pointsr/running

These are light, loose, and have some sun protection.

They are not mesh, but I don't think that any mesh shirt will offer any sun protection.

I've gone through a few different brands and landed on the Ibex W2 Merino Tank which I love. Unfortunately, Ibex is going out of business so I may have to pick up some backups once I get back to the US.

I travel with 2 of the tanks and workout hard 6-7 days a week. I end up washing them about once a month as long as they can be hung to dry after using them at the gym. No stink, no problems.

Don't give up on pea coats, just get try to find ones that aren't too structured and cut the shoulder pads out if they have them (it's super easy to open up the seams underneath and get them out). Cashmere sweaters can be decent because they don't tend to be too thick.

Also if you haven't done so already I highly recommend opting for men's slim fitting basic t-shirts in smaller sizes instead of womens, because they're longer and have more room in the shoulders - so much more flattering! Some of the best ones I've found are these, they're cheap, soft, and hold up well! I'm 5'10 145 and I go with an xs, so either a s or m (depending on how tight you like your shirts, I like mine fairly tight so that you can see I actually have a waist, since baggy clothing looks awful on me) should be perfect for you!

I'd recommend Next Level, on par with most mall brands, and cheap on Amazon. Wide range of colors and styles, from 100% cotton to cotton-poly blend, thin or thick. Great slim fit, I'm a bit skinny and always have trouble finding well fitting tees, and these fit great.

I bought 3 Gildan solid color no-pocket T-shirts for $3 each 9 years ago, and only the collar is starting to wear out on my favorite of the three.

I'm currently wearing a promotional T-shirt from Port & Company that I like pretty well, feels pretty sturdy and is likely cheaper than most brands posted here.

I love Bella+Canvas short sleeves, so maybe their long sleeves are worth a shot?

That's interesting, because I remember last year I was looking on Amazon to order another Icebreaker tee. I noticed one morning that the usually $50-60 dollar merino tee was down to $12...I thought it must have been a glitch because it's just too steep of a price drop for a sale.

I almost bought one, but then started reading the reviews and saw a string of one star reviews from people getting cheap knock-offs from 3rd party sellers (some were even fulfilled by Amazon). Maybe you received some of these knock-offs. It's annoying that Amazon let this slip through. Definitely a big oversight by their QC department.

These ones look like the real deal to me. You could also just try ordering from Icebreaker's website. I would consider giving them one more chance, whether that's now or sometime in the future.

Edit: a word

Search "dri-fit" on Amazon. That look/feel is sportswear intended to wick moisture and dry quickly.

"Dri-fit" is Nike's proprietary name, but searching that will net you some results.

Here's a relatively cheap example I found with minimal effort

u/shesaidgoodbye · 1 pointr/running

yes! Do a search for "UV running shirt." You'll get a bunch of stuff like this. I actually own a few long sleeve UV shirts for days at the beach and stuff, but I would probably also run in them if I felt the urge. Another option is a UV arm sleeves.

Is the hood a dealbreaker?

this is the same line i have you can find it cheaper. Last night the medium was 80 bucks

u/22drun22 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I had the same issue. After a lot of research, I found these. I've been really happy with them. CHEAP too. =)

I originally saw the link for these shirts in an old Off-Topic thread:

This T-shirt in Navy, Olive, Light Gray, & Dark Gray

I used to just grab either the Uniqlo solid T's or J Crew factory, and I like these a lot better and they're mad cheap. For size reference, I'm 6' 215 and wear a large in this shirt. My chest measurement is something like 44", and it fits tight, but not shockingly tight around the chest and hangs with a taper without hugging my torso like an underarmour shirt. Arms might be tight for some people; I've got super long arms, so un-flexed they aren't as thick as some of these other guys, but the arm holes are pretty snug still.
