You could get more out of one of these, one of these and some of these. More compact and takes less putting together time.

I hate my local gym(s). So. Damn. Much. I know it's just me. I'm impatient, intolerant, and generally just can't stand the douchers everywhere. So, I finally finished up my garage gym. It's not pretty, but it works. I just need a few more plates, and a really good deal on a row machine (and to clean up the other half of the garage).

Ordered these from Amazon on Friday night, May 17 and they arrived at my doorstep on Monday, May 20. This is super fast considering I am in Hawaii and also that shipping was free (good luck finding any fitness supply that will ship weights free of charge!). Weights were shipped via USPS. The 20lb arrived in a USPS flat rate large box while the 10lb arrived in a USPS padded envelope. The 20lb box arrived heavily beaten but sufficiently taped. Inside the box was a ton of cardboard rolled up to protect the weight and the Yes4All branded box. Within the Yes4All box was another box and within that was the weight wrapped in bubblewrap. The 10lb arrived just in the padded envelope and then the Yes4All box with the weight wrapped in padding.

Unlike the Rogue fitness ruck plates, the Yes4All has the weight engraved in rather than raised which creates a smooth, flat surface.

I did a super scientific weigh in on my consumer level scale and the 20lb came in at 19.2lbs and the 10lb came in at 9.5 lbs. Will weigh again when I have a more precise scale.

In this order (more or less)

  1. Squat rack (or go for a full power rack)
  2. Adjustable bench
  3. Quality 7' barbell
  4. Weights, bumper or otherwise
  5. Caps
  6. More weights as needed
  7. Adjustable Dumbbells

"buying 2.5 lbs (1.25x2) worth of weight"

Trademark Innovations Fractional Weight Plates - 1.25lbs Each (Set of 2) $17.29

My bad, I didn't think 2.5 lbs was a microplate to people. I thought it was standard at most gyms as I've never had a problem finding 2.5 lb plates and you're right, it is cheaper the last time I looked.

The cheaper 1.25 lb plates that are cheaper starting at $3 only fit 1 inch diameter bars.

For a rack and bench, I don't know, but the bar and bumpers, yup, I gotcha. If you're only using bumper weights, you might not need the stall mats.

I have this barbell. Works just fine. Doesn't have a center knurl, if that matters to ya.

I went with these bumper plates, which have held up well. $80 for a 45 lb, shipped; they were the cheapest I found, as well.

I just purchased myself a starter home gym for around 1500 after lurking here for a while. I stayed away from Titan because of all of the shipping issues and shitty welds posted here recently. Here’s what I got:

u/cdevilbiss · 2 pointsr/Goruck

I bought a pair of these (round, standard-barbell) 20# plates when I thought I was going to do my next event in my GR1, but I bought a Rucker 2.0 based on the assumption (based on posted measurements) that one will fit in the plate pocket.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IHM82XA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My Rucker is out for delivery right now, so I should get it tonight. If you don't hear otherwise by tomorrow, you can assume I got the plate into the pocket. :)

Edit: the bag arrived, and the 20lb plate above just barely fits the opening at the top, and then sinks to the bottom of the pocket, which is good enough for me. (If I want it up another inch or two, I can yoga block it.) Hope this helps!

Also, if someone wants to save $10/each on those same 45-lb bumpers, they can go with black instead of colored ones: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Bumper-Plate-Rubber-Insert/dp/B00I18FGL6/ref=lp_12711903011_1_1?srs=12711903011&ie=UTF8&qid=1452800282&sr=8-1

Rogue has affordable 45-lb pairs ($127 for a pair), but shipping might be expensive: http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-color-echo-bumper-plates

> progressive overload issue as dumbbells increase by quite a bit per step

1.25 lb magnetic microplates could be a fix if your DBs are metal. Or 0.625 lb ones for smaller increase.

Something like this 2.5 Pound Black Olympic Plate Pair https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BYPADI4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_xg0Rzb34313F7
This is 2.5 lb but you get the point

Bought this set about a year ago for 180. Free shipping too. The knurling is crap so deadlifts can be tricky and the played aren't the nicest, but it got me going.

Check Craig's list in your area as played can be found cheap.

Also note, the fitness gear 45lb plates at Dicks are not standard size and are like an inch narrower diameter than iwf standard.

u/YIZZURR · 2 pointsr/homegym

I wish they were vintage 100s! Unfortunately I'm pretty sure they're just these. They look very similar. I picked these up from a guy who got them from a local college turned university. They came with an A-frame plate rack for $120.

u/notsofst · 2 pointsr/weightroom

I picked up a pair off amazon.

Personally, I use the Hex dumbbells. I have between 5lbs - 35 lbs; All in 5 lbs increments, PLUS a set of 12's. I use the full range! So you will have a lot of trouble with only 2 weights. I also have four magnet weights. They each add 1.25 lbs. That being said, you can save a lot of money by using the resistance bands.

You can get away with resistance bands for the entire muscle building process. More bang for the buck. Someone else mentioned the Manduka mat. DEFINITELY worth the expense! The cheap ones just don't cut it. They flop around a lot and wear out faster. 1 yoga block (You don't need 2 for this program). A pull up bar is nice, but not necessary if the band set you pick up comes with a door wedge.

Wow could you be more ignorant? Bumper plates have been around as long as professional lifting has existed. They are all the same size and made (or heavily shielded) with rubber for primarily two reasons: even weight distribution and droppability. The different weights are usually indicated by different colors.

Used in Olympics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1LG2yoUTwA#t=1187

Here's what a typical set of bumper weights look like: http://amzn.com/B001TKE4SY

Trust me I hate crossfit as much as you, but suggesting that crossfit invented bumper weights to trick people and that bumper weights are not used by legitimate body builders is just pure ignorance.

u/eraserman · 1 pointr/homegym

Not a freaking tank, not yet anyway, however the cheapest bar/bumper plates I have found hover around $900 anyway, and that set gave me the most weight for the buck.

I kept looking around, this set from Amazon plus this bar will "only" set me back around $650 for 305 lbs of weight (260 lbs worth of bumper plates plus the bar)

u/piggymeat · 1 pointr/xxfitness

That's why I love 5/3/1! My OHP progress definitely isn't linear and I get stuck at/go up and down around the same 1+ for forever, but it's so satisfying to finally break through.

Have you considered bringing your own fractional weights or some washers and making your OHP programming calculations round to the nearest lb/half lb/whatever? I have washers because they used to be wayyyy cheaper than the fractional weights. TBH I'm too lazy to carry them to the gym, but when I was using them they were pretty helpful in working up my OHP in smaller increments.

u/SporkTheDork · 1 pointr/homegym

I found a pair of them with free shipping for 19.98 on Amazon

Here you go. I plan to paint the edges red to avoid confusion.

u/souponastick · 1 pointr/xxfitness

For your first question, I'd say buy some fractional plates to see if you can go up a little at a time. I was stuck at 165lbs for a year and a half on bench press. I had been stuck at like 65lbs on my overhead press for a long while and adding 5lb increments was just too much for me, so I bought 1.25lb plates and bring them with me in my gym bag. I use them a lot more than I ever thought I would. I just got mine on Amazon.

For your 2nd point, I would LOVE to know that too! My mom just had surgery to get hers removed and I'm so tempted to if it is still there when I lose the weight I want to lose.

u/MustachelessCat · -2 pointsr/gainit

I got you this Here your welcome.
