Here is the Skincare Addiction sunscreen guide post, although it's a bit confusing. I found this Skinacea page to be much more helpful and to make much more sense when I was looking into sunscreens. Also look at the related links at the top of the page for more descriptions about what you need in a sunscreen. You should have something that's at least SPF 30.

I have skin that's really difficult to please with sunscreen. Sunscreen either clogs my pores or burns my sensitive skin. My skin is also combination/oily and acne prone. There are chemical sunscreens, physical sunscreens, and ones that use both chemical and physical blockers. Here's a helpful side-by-side comparison. The combination ones are generally suggested as the best for skin protection, but sometimes people react badly to various ingredients and the most important thing is the sunscreen provides broad spectrum, photostable protection. It's mostly about trial and error until you find something you like.

As far as the ones I've personally tried...

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen in SPF 55 felt really good going on. It only got a little greasy around my nose, but otherwise was dry. It seems like a number of people here like it for a drugstore sunscreen, but I broke out after a few days of using it.

I like MaryKay's SPF 30. It goes on dry and has a bit of a fragrant scent, so it doesn't smell like sunscreen. I've used this at the beach for many summers, though I'm going to try out some other sunscreens because I'm worried that it'll clog my pores if I use it daily. I think I may need an only physical sunscreen.

A lot of people here like the Elta MD sunscreens, which are a little pricier. People tend to recommend the UV Clear SPF 46 on this subreddit. I just ordered their UV Physical SPF 41, though I haven't tried it yet. It's important to note that the physical one is tinted, so it probably works best on more fair skin.

I'm no expert on sunscreens, but this is the info that I've researched and that's been provided by the subreddit. Thank goodness for /r/SkincareAddiction, amirite?

u/Orpheana · 28 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

American here! I get SebaMed from Amazon. I order hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary. Pure aloe vera gel is also available on Amazon, but around here I can usually just find aloe vera on sale by the cut leaf, and you know for sure that’s pure haha.

u/rileyriot · 26 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Not OP but I have my eyebrows microbladed as well. I use SPF 50 on them, and it's definitely recommended. They're probably more susceptible to fading than normal tattoos even because the ink is only deposited in the epidermis, whereas tattoos are in the dermis (or that's my understanding at least). Here's the sunscreen I use, it's super light and not creamy or streaky, https://www.amazon.ca/Shiseido-SENKA-Sunscreen-Mineral-Water/dp/B004Q1WT58, so you don't have to worry about it looking white on your face.

u/xPawreen · 17 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Has the formula changed over the years or does it differ by country?

The list of ingredients on Amazon for Ultra Sheer SPF 30 is:

  • Avobenzone (2.0%)
  • Homosalate (7%)
  • Octinoxate (7.5%)
  • Octisalate (5%)
  • Oxybenzone (3.0%)

On the Neutrogena website it says the ingredients are:

  • Avobenzone (3%)
  • Homosalate (8%)
  • Octisalate (5%)
  • Octocrylene (4%)
  • Oxybenzone (4%)

According to skinacea, avobenzone is unstable and is further destabilized by octinoxate. The 1st set of ingredients includes octinoxate but the 2nd set of ingredients don't. Also octocrylene will stabilize the avobenzone if the percentage of octocrylene is higher than avobenzone, which is true for the 2nd set, but octocrylene is not used at all in the 1st set.

I'm also in Canada and the sunscreen I bought matches the 2nd set of ingredients. Does anyone have the sunscreen with the ingredients matching the first set?

ETA: your MUA source mentions that they recommend having the octocrylene to be at least half the percentage of avobenzone, so yay, I think my sunscreen is safe to use.
u/snailicide · 17 pointsr/BeautyGuruChatter

unfortunately I think casket ready is always a thing with mineral sunscreens since zinc and titanium dioxide are white. Even in the more micronized/small particle size versions its still detectable. If it is invisible on the skin not enough is applied or it's ... like this product ...that was overnight popular but turned out to be a lie: https://www.amazon.com/Look-At-Me-Hyaluronic-Moisturizer/dp/B011YJICXW . unfortunately, if it's too good to be true it probably is with physical sunscreens. It also sucks that this category of mineral only sunscreen excludes demographics but there is only so transparent zinc and titanium are going to get. Does putting foundation on top of ( the least white paste ) counteract the corpse effect for deeper skin tones? Or would it be better to use a tinted sunscreen? I feel like foundation over the top probably ends up looking better.

Thanks!

I was using Shiseido SENKA Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++

For days when I was just running outside for a short time I used Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 45

u/orata · 12 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Neutrogena Dry Touch sunscreen or Shiseido Hada Senka UV Gel (also under $15 but you get much less)--sunscreen is one of the best things you can do for your skin.

u/starsreminisce · 11 pointsr/AsianBeauty

The best thing for you to do is take the three products ingredients and put them in an excel spreadsheet and highlight the duplicate values. When I did that, there were two ingredients that were in all three: Phenoxyethanol and Sodium Hyaluronate. You can compare at least to see if Sodium Hyaluronate is in any products that you use. This sunmilk from The Face Shop and also This Shiseido Mineral Water UV seem to be free of both of those.

u/joowee · 11 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Not sure what your skin is like, but I have oily skin and the Shiseido SENKA Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++ is the best (and only at $9.49)! It is a light sunscreen, perfect for those with oily skin or even just for the summer. The finish is matte and feels a little powdery but it won't affect the texture of your skin.

Looking for a gentle physical exfoliator? Boy, do I have the thing for you! Dew Puff Konjac sponges, especially in charcoal! Only $8.71! WOW!!! ( ꒪Д꒪)ノ

I absolutely love the LookAtMe Jelly Sunscreen - no alcohol, no silicone, no whitecast, a true gel formulation, and a nice line up of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredients!

u/Stingray88 · 10 pointsr/comics

This is what they've recommended for me.

Keep in mind, anything over 35 SPF isn't really doing much more. This sunscreen just doesn't leave you feeling oily or greasy, and thus you tend to put more on. Which is GOOD. You need to be very generous with sunscreen if you plan to be in the sun for long periods of time. And you should be reapplying the same amount every 2-3 hours. More if you're sweating it off. This sunscreen isn't waterproof, I can't remember what my GF bought us for that.

Also, wear sun glasses, hats, and photo protective clothing. I personally hike in one of these hats and wear UV blocking sun glasses. I also don't take off my shirt when I go to the beach, instead I wear a photo protective water shirt. If you are continually getting sun burns even with appropriate sunscreen application you should definitely reconsider what you're wearing. There are a lot of clothing companies that make UV protective sport wear that is thin and breezy so you won't be hot at all.

Sun burns are no joke. Skin cancer is not something you want to go through.

    Oily, acne prone, sensitive skin

I love this product. It goes on pretty greasy but dries up perfectly matte and looks fabulous on my skin. I don't wear foundation or powder, so I don't know how it acts under makeup, but alone it looks wonderful. There's no real discernible scent and it feel very light once it dries. Of all the sunscreens I've ever tried, it's absolutely at the top.
u/vietnamesecoffee · 10 pointsr/muacjdiscussion

One of the most popular sunscreens in the r/asianbeauty sub is this one by Bioré and another one that I tried that also worked well was this one by Nivea.

I just pulled links to the products from Amazon to show you what they are, but if you want to purchase them, please make sure you look for the best prices.

u/LookAtYouArh · 9 pointsr/30PlusSkinCare

There's also a laundry additive that's supposed to make any clothes act the same. I haven't tried it though, so I can't speak to its efficacy.

u/babykittiesyay · 9 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

How is he with putting thicker creams on his face? My husband is really sensitive to the feeling of a thicker cream, so I got him a moisturizing sun block that's more liquidy-feeling and sinks in faster. It's this one - [Amazon Link](http://www.ROHTO.com/ Skin Aqua Super Moisture Milk (SPF50 PA ++++) 40mL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRBST6H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_hXY2AbSVGX0RD) - it's an asian brand called Rohto. He also likes mine, which is from Shesiedo [Amazon Link](http://www.Shiseido.com/ SENKA | Sunscreen | Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++ 40ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Q1WT58/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_MYY2AbN2A4XXV).

We both use Cerave lotion, the basic blue topped pump bottle. My husband has dehydrated combo skin, and even when it's swampy outz none of this breaks him out!

u/fifteenhundred · 9 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Sounds similar to the one I use - Nivea water gel

u/gleeXanadu · 9 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

So the first two sunscreens, the Neutrogena ultra sheer and the Equate Ultra protection, both contain Avobenzone, which can be irritating in the way you describe. The Elta MD doesn't contain avobenzone. If it irritates you though, then don't use it.

If you're sensitive to avobenzone, which seems possible, then you should look for sunscreens that contain Zinc and Titanium as their active ingredients, or have other ingredients that do the same thing as avobenzone but aren't irritating (Tinosorb, Uvinul, etc.). These ingredients are generally not available in the US.

So your options are to look for a physical sunscreen in the US, or to order a chemical sunscreen from overseas. The physical ones are hard to rub in and DO leave a cast, but you can find them in stores. Any brand of baby sunscreen will work, or you can use Neutrogena sheer zinc dry touch. Another one that may or may not work for you is the Australian Gold tinted botanicals sunscreen. The tint may be too light for you, but it should look better than plain white physical sunscreen.

The chemical ones are more cosmetically elegant. You can find Japanese sunscreens that rub in well and contain no avobenzone, but they take for freaking ever to ship to the US. Some favorites are the Biore Aqua rich watery essence, and Nivea sun protect water gel.

u/gleditsia · 8 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I wear summer gloves, and use a parasol and wear long pants and shirts in the sun. I got a pair of thick cotton gloves that I wear during driving, as well as arm sleeves that are UPF 50. I have a great indicator of sun blocking power because if sun gets through, I get an awful rash. Here are a few things I've found that work well:

  • Underarmour UPF 50 shirt very lightweight and stretchy, I wear it running in 80 degree weather and it does fine.
  • Athleta indicates on their tag anything that has a UPF of 30 or greater. Their summer pants are awesome.
  • Linen doesn't have a very high UPF but you can wash with Sun Guard. Lasts for 15 washes!
*For hands, I use a mineral sunscreen like vanicream. It seems to last longer than chemical sunscreens, and I wash my hands a lot as well. You can also use something like Eucerin after washing hands.
u/MayAnneEgg · 8 pointsr/FreckledFoxSnarkClub

I have this Neutrogena SPF 70 that looks like a stick of deodorant. I got it on Amazon. Definitely recommend! It's so easy to swipe up and down your forearms before you head out the door!

ETA: Here it is on Amazon

(I'm very passionate about skincare lol)

u/IIIRuin · 7 pointsr/AsianBeauty

If you're going to be outside all day in strong UV it's absolutely required. I live in Australia and in the summer I stay out of the sun in the middle of the day and afternoon completely if I can help it.

You can actually buy a laundry treatment that can build up the UPF rating of your clothes if you want extra protection too.

u/ladypilot · 7 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Of course! Here's the info she gave me:
"To help manage excess oil:

  1. Use a cleanser designed for oily skin. Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser, Cerave foaming cleanser, and Vanicream Free and Clear Liquid Cleanser are good cleansers.
Cleansers with benzoyl peroxide (Panoxyl 4% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Creamy Wash http://amzn.to/1mPHbrD) may be especially helpful, as they contain ingredients that treat breakout as well.
  2. Use an oil-free sunscreen. EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 http://amzn.to/1mGsHz is a good option. If you want a mattifier, try Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 http://amzn.com/B001LNTNGC . A great physical sunscreen with a light tint is Tizo Solar Protection Formula, Facial Mineral Fusion SPF 40: http://amzn.to/WiFTQt.
  3. Try an oil-absorbing face sheet. You can get matte facial blotting papers from Clean & Clear, Boscia, NYX, and others.
  4. Even oily skin sometimes needs a moisturizer. If so, some good options include EltaMD AM, Sebamed Clear Face Gel (as you know!), or Cerave Moisturizing Cream.
Physical methods like cleansing brushes and exfoliators can also remove oil, but they may irritate the skin, so should not be used too aggressively. Also they don’t remove the oil for any longer than more gentle methods.
Using an oil (but not coconut oil, please!) to cleanse the skin can help dissolve the oils in the pores, so that the sebum is more easily removed and the pores may then appear smaller."
u/staralia · 7 pointsr/MUAontheCheap

I love Shiseido's senka mineral water uv gel. It fluctuates between $6-8 for 40 mL on amazon. It's very thin/watery, doesn't leave a whitecast as far as I can tell, isn't greasy on my combo/oily skin.

I also like Nivea's sun protect water gel (not super protect), which I can't find on amazon anymore for some reason. It has the texture/finish of Clinique's dramatically different moisturizing gel for oily/combo skin.

u/claramill · 7 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I've used aloe vera leaf gel for about six months and it's been a lifesaver for hydration, even addressing some of the fine lines I was getting under my eyes. I use it after my serums and before my moisturizer for an extra hydrating layer and saw results within the first three days (visible reduction in wrinkles and smoother texture overall). However, on its own it's not moisturizing enough and will dry out the skin - I wait for it to absorb a bit and then apply moisturizer to still-wet skin. I also keep it in the fridge for an extra cooling factor and to prolong the shelf life. This is brand I use: Earth's Daughter.

u/TheGunpowderTreason · 7 pointsr/BattlefieldV

Oh snap. Here’s a link to some Aloe Vera:

u/DarklyNought · 6 pointsr/lupus

The Environmental Working Group has a comprehensive list of the best sunscreens and the ones you should avoid: EWG Best Sunscreens . Take a look!

I like the brands Kiss My Face and Neutrogena, personally.

And make sure not to rely on sunscreen alone! Sunscreen has to be reapplied in good quantity on a regular basis. It’s good to wear long sleeves and a hat, as well, preferably in fabrics with UPF.
Examples of UPF clothing lines are Coolibar and Mott 50. . Places like Dicks Sporting Goods also carry sun protective clothing.
You can also use something like Rit Sun Guard to treat your clothes and give yourself extra sun protection for up to 20 washes.

You might also consider investing in a sun blanket or an umbrella with UPF as well.

Stay in the shade and avoid direct sunlight. Photosensitive lupus patients are supposed to avoid going outside in the sun between 10 AM and 3 PM, as that is when the sun is strongest.

Stay safe and have fun!

u/marmosetohmarmoset · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I used to have generalized and blotchy redness too. I can't really say specifically which product fixed it because I was naughty and started them around the same time, but after using CeraVe foaming, witch hazel toner, and organic aloe vera on my face everyday the redness and blotches are gone. I suspect that it might be the aloe that's the main culprit, as I noticed the most dramatic improvement after starting that. This is the aloe I've been using.

u/ShinyCooking · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Empties: None yet! Just about at the end of a Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch sunscreen but otherwise I'm just beginning this having a skincare routine dealy.

Purchases:

St. Ives Exfoliating Pads: Pleasant, but don't seem to do much on my skin at about 4-5% lactic acid. So I switched from using these at night to using them in the morning and now my nighttime AHA is:

Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir. I incorporated this beginning every other night, with no other AHA, and had no issues so now it's nightly. Haven't noticed anything yet, but it's only been about a week. This is about 8% glycolic acid I think. I'm really considering trying /u/SaraSays' DIY vitamin C serum and tretinoin once I'm through with the St. Ives and Olay, as so far my skin is tolerating the AHAs super well.

Ceraveinthetub: I've mentioned before that it leaves my skin a little tacky. I found that a light touch is essential with this moisturizer. When I put it on very lightly it's a much smoother feel. I learned not to be fooled by its quick absorption which made me want to slather on more, which is a bad idea! It's an excellent body lotion too. Not sure if I'll get it again or not.

Jojoba oil: The oil cleansing method fascinated me, especially once I tried it on makeup using just some olive oil. I didn't particularly like the olive oil itself but it cleaned like a champ. So I ordered this jojoba off Ebay, choosing it because of the whole like your own sebum property. I like it, and use it to moisturize at night sometimes too. Like the Cerave, I'm stuck with this forever — 12 oz. is a TON.

Castor oil: Since castor oil is supposed to help with the cleaning aspect, I picked some up the other day. I haven't really noticed it affecting the cleansing, but then again I don't wear makeup often.

u/toxik0n · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I find a lot of Western drugstore brand sunscreens have a very strong smell and white caste. I much prefer Asian brand sunscreen. It's generally a lot milkier (thinner application), absorbs quickly, minimal smell and no white caste.

I use Shiseido SENKA Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 and love it. Biore also carries some great Japanese sunscreens, as well as Hado Labo.

u/love-from-london · 6 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

What sunscreen do you use? It might be easier/cheaper to just swap out sunscreens for one that goes nicer under makeup rather than changing around your whole foundation routine. The Shiseido Hada Senka sunscreen is quite affordable and leaves my skin matte and touchable once it's sunk in (after about 10 minutes or so - I usually put it on, eat breakfast, then come back and do my makeup).

u/[deleted] · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use Shisheido SPF 50. But that is about to run out so now I'm using Elta MD. Shisheido is definitely drying but has a matte feel, and the Elta MD one feels great so far, no white cast, and not drying.

u/queenblackacid · 5 pointsr/Rosacea

Hey! Intermediate ABer here, and I've tried about 5 Asian sunscreens. I also have moderate rosacea (erythema and papules) as well as eczema. Fun times! :P

/r/asianbeauty doesn't really have a good grasp of the needs of rosaceans (haha?), unfortunately. Gotta use info from here and there to figure out what's good for your skin.

u/hybridvenice · 5 pointsr/PaleMUA

Mineral Veil Primer has both titanium dioxide and zinc dioxide. I suggest you find a primer without those ingredients.

Sunscreen is a very important part of skincare! In a few decades, your skin will thank you! I actually did some sunscreen research a few days ago and found 2 that I liked: Shiseido Senka Mineral Water and Shiseido Senka Anti Aging.

The Anti Aging sunscreen offers better protection but the first is almost as good and has no parabens. I haven't tried either but have placed an order. From what I've researched, both sunscreens don't seem to cause flashback issues.

u/michelle_mybelle · 5 pointsr/MakeupAddicts

I feel you so hard on this. I actually just got this Shiseido sunscreen because it's supposed to go well under makeup, and I shit you not it controls my oil better than anything else I come across.

Usually I'm an oil slick by the three or four hour mark (no joke, like I touch my finger to my cheek and it just slides around). I'm currently at the thirteen hour mark of my makeup and I've only gathered a little sheen. The only unfortunate part is that I can't use it for special occasions where pictures are being taken because of the flashback :/

u/chemkara · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Sunscreens with a PPD over 16.

The highest the PPD, the better. These are mostly European sunscreen that you can order online. The US don’t divulge their PPD rating unfortunately, so the only thing you can rely on is how high the % of the filters. I recommend Zinc Oxide of at least 15%, even better if it is over 20%.

Some of the top of my head that I know have a high % of Zinc Oxide are:

ThinkSport

Coppertone Pure & Simple

Neutrogena Sheer Zinc

Trader Joe’s Mineral Sunscreen

There are many more out there just keep in mind that a pure Zinc Oxide will have a white cast but the ones I mentioned above are not that bad with some rubbing onto the skin.

u/100thUsernameAttempt · 5 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I use Shiseido Senka (orange tube), which is great for me, but some people don't like the silicone in it.

I also use the Nivea body sunscreen, which I proved to myself works very well after taking a 3-mile walk on the beach. I could definitely see where I didn't apply it...

Edit: Shiseido & Nivea links (Amazon)

u/_handstand_scribbles · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Important Sidenote: I'm a runner too. Do you run outside? Be sure to wear a waterproof/sweat proof sunscreen, it will help with skin damage as well as texture!! I run in the AM, and my pre-run routine is: Wipe my face down with micellar water, rinse it off with water, apply Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SPF 30 After my run I wash thoroughly and continue my AM routine as normal.

I checked out the Target wipes you listed and don't see them as truly exfoliating, with the ingredients being "eh". A budget-friendly drugstore exfoliator you could try is Stridex in the red box. It is super popular on this subreddit (I haven't tried it, I use PC 2% BHA but it's more expensive). BHAs helps with clogged pores (closed comedones), which might be what your tiny bumps are.

Make sure you moisturize at night!

u/4kitall · 4 pointsr/AskReddit

SUNSCREEN. What's your favorite cost-effective "all over" sunscreen? Not for your face, but other areas (arms, legs, shoulders, etc). I'm looking at Banana Boat Sport SPF 50 because it comes with a lot and it's a good price.

u/tintedlipbalm · 4 pointsr/RedPillWives

My picks are a rotation of Japanese sunscreens, because when it comes to skincare I just can't stick to one thing!

Some in my rotation:

Disclosure: These are all Amazon non-affiliate links so people here can easily find prices and other reviews (even though I personally shop these on Ebay and Rakuten and not Amazon).

  • Biore Perfect Face Milk - Says it's water resistant, I personally like the finish and can use it under makeup with no issues.

  • Biore Perfect Milk - This is great for going out in my opinion, an actual going outside face sunscreen!

  • Hada Labo Creamy UV Gel - Very light and friendly, I reserve it for interior use.

  • Shiseido SENKA Mineral Water - I really like this one and on me this has a matte powdery finish. Some people complain it goes on greasy. I find that whole it's greasier than others during application, it dries out non-greasy. YMMV.

  • Forgot to add: I use Privacy's UV Face Powder for retouching. It's Zinc Oxide based. There are other sunscreen powders on the market. My mom uses Colorescience's and it can be found on Amazon too, and Peter Thomas Roth also has one. I just use this one because it's cheaper. It's very whitish though so not the best option for darker skintones.

Finally, the cult favorite is Biore Watery Essence so I'm linking it. I personally did not like how drying this was and its citrus smell, but the vast majority of people swear by it because it's really light and easy to use everyday in interiors.

Japanese sunscreens generally contain alcohol and all the ones I listed do contain alcohol, so if you're against alcohol in sunscreen you might not like the ones I list, however there are some well liked alcohol-free Japanese sunscreens that you can find searching online, /r/AsianBeauty can be a good resource for these.

The reason I personally like Japanese sunscreens in particular is their texture and their ingredients. Most of them contain Titanium Dioxide (a physical UV blocker) and/or Zinc Oxide (the broadest spectrum UVA blocker approved for sunscreen use at the moment). UVA are the rays you need to look out for when preventing sings of aging. This is what PA and the plus signs after it stand for in Japanese sun products, while the SPF we are all familiar with only refers to UVB protection. Four plus signs after PA denote the highest level of protection currently in place.

The downside of physical sunscreen it that it tends to leave a white cast behind so darker-skinned people might have issues with this aesthetically.

There might be western sunscreens that are physical but most mainstream brands (like Neutrogena) rely on their chemical patented formula (or a mix of physical and chemical like some of La Roche Posay), which is also good, but can be sensitizing to some people. They also do have a greasier formula that remains tacky at least in my experience, and some people really hate this about sunscreen.

I don't personally use Korean sunscreens at the moment because their regulations only allow PA+++ to be the highest, but many people enjoy their variety, so again you can look in the AsianBeauty subreddit or on youtube/blogs if you want to read reviews of those.

    **

If you for personal reasons would like to get a Western brand physical non-greasy sunscreen, Paula's Choice Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 Tinted Matte Moisturizer contains Zinc Oxide protection and has a matte finish!

Her line is overall well liked by people because of their choice of ingredients due to a philosophy of extensive research. I have this sunscreen and while I found it too drying for my normalish-to-combo skin, it could be a godsend for oilier people. Ideal for daily use, and it has some tint. I haven't tried any other of her sunscreens but her line is worth looking into, if you're new to building a routine! Unfortunately I'm just noticing that since my introduction to this brand in 2014 the prices have raised, most likely due to her online following growing.

    Final note:
All of which I just wrote is stuff I learned from the Internet and also my personal experiences with the products I've tried and liked, I'm not a sun protection expert!*

For a sunscreen people from here usually recommend Shiseido SPF 50 UV Gel and it's fairly cheap. What people have also said in the past, (and I have yet to try this but I will) is putting on sunscreen then moisturizer at the same time THEN your make up (if I got that order right), and apparently the Shiseido sunscreen is good for things like that.

Saying apparently because I ordered it and I'm waiting for it to come, lol. And for my oil cleansing method, I use argon oil. I've tried olive oil, jojoba oil and maracula (sp?) oil and found argon left my skin the softest. Just my two cents!

Biore Sarasara UV Aqua is my go-to. I've also had good results with Hada Labo UV whitening emulsion.

Try using a facial oil such as argan oil or grapeseed oil before you go to bed and in the morning. When I did it, my face stayed pretty matte the whole day.

I also recommend using sunscreen. Now, I don't use it (I'm not light at all plus I'm rarely in the sun for that long daily), but the one time I used sunscreen...I didn't sweat. Mind you, this was during a heat wave and I was playing badminton in a park.

I use this sunscreen: Thinksport Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ (3 ounce) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007SNM6OK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8guMDbJDEK5ED

I’ve started using this Aloe Vera Gel as part of my routine (after toner, before serums and moisturizers, although I have no real clue if that’s the best order for things) AM and PM and I swear it’s helped soothe some of the redness.

u/smitha12345 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I haven't used this one personally, but there have been a few reviews on here that have claimed that this sunscreen doesn't have a white cast, though it is a bit expensive.

I use this sunscreen, which is a physical/chemical combo. It only has one chemical sunscreen, and dries fairly matt if you don't put a ton of moisturizer under it.

u/Nickvcool · 3 pointsr/Uncircumcised_Forum

someone once recommended on here 100% organic Aloe Vera . I too recommend .

Rave: ALOE VERA GEL! This is so simple, but I've been using it the last week and it has been SO effective in hydrating my Tretinoin-ravaged dry skin. I got the purest bottled version I could find on Amazon (this one) and the results have been pretty dramatic. The best part is it sinks into the skin and doesn't leave that tacky feeling that blue sunburn aloe vera gel does.

u/buu700 · 3 pointsr/answers

I just use soap and moisturize with jojoba oil and aloe.

What should I research, buy, and patch test next?

I already picked out and patch tested a cleanser and a moisturizer. I'm probably going to buy this sunscreen.

Should I look into the products behind exfoliation, spot treatment, or the blackhead removal technique first?

I've been using Fake Bake for over a year and never notice any streaking really. But I also usually only put it on the skin that will show when wearing my workout clothes unless I plan on wearing a bathing suit somewhere. I get compliments on my "tan" all the time and it smells good too. It's like $14. https://www.amazon.com/Fake-Bake-FBF-12-Flawless-6-Ounce/dp/B0046VGPHQ?th=1

u/shanny-rene · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

I've been using Fake Bake Flawless for 2 years and love it. The coloring is right for my skin tone and it applies easily with little mess and usually quick enough results, if needed. My routine is to apply twice a week (usually just exposed parts: arms, chest and knees down) after showering and the color enhances by morning. I've not experienced any streaking and minimal "rub off" to pajamas and sheets. For the price I haven't found anything better for myself for the value. I order on Amazon, usually once every 2 or so months: Fake Bake Flawless, 6 fl.oz

Fwiw, I was asking this a couple months ago.

Every morning, I apply a moisturizer,
cleanser, and sunblock to my face. At night, I apply the moisturizer and cleanser again.

Supposedly this, in combination with being an indoor neckbeard, will mitigate much of the toll of aging on my skin. We'll see.

u/Fervidor · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I FEEL you. I own so many sunscreens. However, I can say I have finally stopped looking with two favorites: Shiseido Hada Senka Mineral Gel and my FAVORITE favorite, Paula's Choice RESIST Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30. They're both very cosmetically elegant sunscreens, and the Paula's Choice one is full of great ingredients. They're both really lovely, and I feel like I can finally stop looking. I use something different on my body though - whatever smells best from the drug store!

u/milky_donut · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I use Shiseido SENKA and it's very lightweight and blends in really well into the face. It's more watery rather than thick, which I like because it doesn't feel heavy.

Another contender is Biore Sarasara

u/whitegirlAMA · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

As others said, sunscreen is the holy grail of anti-aging. No other product will work as well. Yes, many of them are greasy, but some are MUCH less greasy than others. Chances are, you've only tried U.S. drugstore sunscreens and you don't know what's out there. You can also use a matte powder on top of your sunscreen to get rid of the greasy look.

I like the EltaMD line of sunscreens, topped with my matte foundation powder my face stays matte all day.

Asian sunscreens are the least greasy, and some are (allegedly) totally matte. This and this are said to be matte, I haven't tried them personally, but you can read the reviews.

Also, why would it be horrifying to us that your skin is clear?

u/scumteam14 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Physical sunscreens tend to have great UV protection and tend to be good for sensitive skin, but most of them have a white cast. Chemical sunscreens tend to be cosmetically elegant (no white cast, not particularly greasy or heavy, etc.) but they may cause irritation for sensitive skin.

Imo, if you don't have sensitive skin I'd go for a chemical sunscreen or combo chemical/physical to start off with - I just feel like it's harder to find a physical sunscreen with no white cast, that isn't heavy or greasy, etc. (They're out there!! It just isn't the most beginner friendly search)

u/georgecloooney · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

For me, the Garnier pink cap removes all of the Shiseido Senka Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++ although I guess it depends on which sunscreen you have.

u/SiameseGunKiss · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

You should try an Asian sunscreen! They're way ahead of us in terms of facial sunscreens, I swear. I use shiseido senka mineral uv gel and it's amazing. It's quite thin dp it absorbs quickly, leaves a matte finish, and has a super light scent. /r/asianbeauty would have other brand suggestions too if you're interested. I highly recommend them!

u/deenarrhea · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use this and it seems to not irritate my face! It's very smooth and feels like it absorbs into the skin instead of sitting on top of the skin if that makes sense.

I've used the Orange/yellow packaging one also. That's got a little bit of a different texture, is anti-aging but I don't think my skin likes that one as much.

u/Yoyochan · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

What's weird about this product is that I was doing well with it for about 4 months until I suddenly started getting whiteheads just on my collarbones. This is totally unusual for me, and I wasn't getting any on my face, despite using the product there too. The only thing I was using in that area was the biore aqua rich watery essence sunscreen, and when I stopped using it the whiteheads cleared up almost immediately.

I still use it for my hands and arms (especially when I'm out and about since it evaporates/soaks in so well) and have since switched to Shiseido SENKA Mineral Water UV Gel for my face. Different texture, but still works nicely under makeup, and dries to a soft semi-matte.

u/interstatetornado · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I found the biore watery essence too drying and really like the Shiseido SENKA Aging Care and SENKA Mineral Water UV Gel. The Biore Aqua Rich Watery Gel is a little better than the Watery Essence as well, though not as good as the two Shiseidos.

u/ergdegdeg · 3 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I like Shiseido Senka Mineral Water UV Gel and Hada Labo UV Creamy Gel. Both have no white cast and don't break me out if removed properly through double cleansing. As for pilling, that usually happens when you layer two or more products with incompatible bases (e.g. silicone- and water-based products).

u/savage_in_a_sundress · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

For AM moisturizers, Hada Labo Moist as a toner with Sebamed Clear Face Gel (or other gel moisturizer! I personally really like Benton Aloe + Propolis Soothing Gel) is usually recommended for oily, acne prone skin.

For water-resistant sunscreen:

  • Thinksport SPF50 - Limited ingredients list, fragrance free, physical filters, decent price.
  • Elta MD Sport SPF 50 - Rave reviews, fragrance free, combined filters, somewhat expensive.
  • Cotz Sensitive SPF 40 - Oil free, fragrance free, physical filters, mid-range.
  • Alba Botanica Sensitive SPF 30 - Drugstore fave, physical filters, dirt cheap.

Try to purchase from somewhere with a great return policy - trial and error are part of skincare, and sunscreens even more so.

Good luck. Seriously don't really worry about clothes. They're so much cute and cheap stuff here that you'll want to buy. I'm on day 36 of a 6 month trip and I hardly packed a full weeks worth of clothes, I've bought elephant pants and some sun dresses and tanks. Bring clothes you're going to wear out and then just toss by the end of your trip. Also if you get your clothes laundered almost everything will shrink. So seriously. Bring crap clothes.

Also. Something I always do before a long trip which is super tough for me is, pack your bag like three or four days before you're going to leave. And then carry your bag around for like thirty minutes. Is it too heavy?!? Is there stuff that you might not need? Seriously the humidity is so awful you're going to want the lightest pack you can manage.

So when I want to go out for the day and want to bring a few things I shove it all in that. Also. I love my money belt. I use it here all the time. I actually have the "spy belt" brand and so when I go out at night I have some cash and a place to stash my iPhone and I'm still hands free. I think it looks less desiring that a large shoulder purse that someone may want to take. 😊sorry if this is too much info. Holla if you have any other questions!! I might be able to help.

Hey friends! I'm pretty much a sunscreen virgin and I could use some help.

I've read through the sidebar, done a ton of searching through old posts, and have opened probably 100 amazon tabs today, but I still feel lost. Here's some relevant information, if it helps:

  • 26 years old female, living in Oregon.
  • Don't go outdoors much.
  • Not really concerned with anti-aging stuff, much more concerned with preventing skin damage/cancer and whatnot.
  • Pretty normal skin, dry/flaky forehead and back/boob acne-prone
  • I don't THINK alcohol in products is a huge problem for me? The skin around my eyes gets fairly pissy fairly quickly, haha, but it seems unrelated from any skincare products I use.
  • Rarely wear makeup, not hugely concerned about whitecast but am nervous about looking greasy
  • Lastly and most pertinent to my current situation, I'd really like to find as big a bottle as I can for a reasonable price (10-15 USD if possible); I really like the idea of the popular Asian products but the bottles are sooo tiny, I can't afford to buy them every month. If I can get a bigass bottle of sunscreen, I have my own little travel bottle that I can put some in for commuting around town.

With all that in mind... is there something I can find? I've heard US sunscreens aren't great, and though it'd be fantastic if I could just go to a local grocery store and grab a bottle, I'm willing to order online if there just aren't any suitable US brands.

    Please help? :(

ETA these are the two most promising ones I've found so far:
Nivea Perfect Water Gel and Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel

Still a little small (around 4 oz, I'd really like to find something AMERICAN-SIZED lol, like 10/12 oz or larger if possible) but better. Would one of these be okay? Are there better options?

    (edited to fix formatting)
u/Damisu · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

The wiki here says it's 2.0% which seems standard. Would this sunscreen help with the PIH? Only one the store has from the recommended section, says it contains alcohol and fragrance, the former of which I thought was an absolute no-no.

EDIT: Also worth noting about the acne that I've been using a 2.5% BP product for a few months that has worked well on treating the acne already there, but otherwise doesn't prevent it, and causes a lot of dryness

u/WithLinesOfInk · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Someone else mentioned Rit Sunguard, which I think is a good way to add some extra SPF to clothes!

u/analoguue · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Also, most clothing only has an SPF of about 5 so this

http://www.amazon.com/Rit-Guard-Laundry-Treatment-Protectant/dp/B0000Y3F6W?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

I've been keeping an eye out for a warmer sweater but I don't know if my current 50/50 merino/acrylic will be beat for <$25...

Ooh - this! Have any of you tried it? [Or two bottles of sunscreen.]

Please consider investing in some good pieces of UV protective clothing. They can be more expensive than regular clothes, but I think you definitely need them. Coolibar and Solumbra are good bets. Invest in a good UV protective hat (or several). Wear sunglasses if possible. Do not neglect the back of your neck (which is where skin cancer appears a lot of the time) and your hands. Both Coolibar and Solumbra offer sun protective gloves. I know another redditor also once mentioned Tilley. If there are other pieces of clothing you have that you cannot replace with UV protective clothing, try out SunGuard. (Keep in mind it gives you less sun protection than dedicated UV protective clothing, however.)

As for sunscreen, higher SPF is definitely better. Though the difference, some argue, is minimal, your skin cares about the rays that get in, not the ones that don't. The most important thing to remember with sunscreen is that you must reapply every two hours because sunscreen loses its effectiveness, even if it is a higher SPF sunscreen. Also, remember to protect your lips with a chapstick that has UV protection, and apply sunscreen to the back of your ears.

u/firedrops · 2 pointsr/WTF

Have you tried UV laundry additive? You add it to your wash and it adds sunscreen to your clothes. My friend's mom is allergic to the sun and it lets her wear normal clothes outside.

FYI I think you've been missing the "reply" button at the bottom of people's posts :)

I'm completely new to foundation, but I did a bunch of research on MUA and ended up buying MAC studio fix powder plus foundation. I also have combination skin, so I use Murad oil-control mattifier to keep from looking shiny and use the powder/foundation after that. I've had it for less than a week, but I love it. It comes with a puff which I believe gives fuller coverage, but I don't really need much. I think the overall consensus is to use a brush...I don't have a foundation brush at the moment, so I've just been using a makeup sponge to sort of pat it on :)

I am very pale and I use Fake Bake Flawless and I'm really happy with how it turns out after two applications (usually 3 days apart). Be sure to cut the straw to the length of the bottle to prevent it leaking.

u/sleepy_panda · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Fake Bake Flawless is amazing. I haven't tried anything else but have always heard great things about this. It's not streaky and leaves a total natural color. I used to be very tan when I was younger and spent a lot of time in the sun/by the pool, and it makes my pale self look like that color again.

I haven't used it regularly enough to speak about reapplication, but two nights in a row gave me a great color that lasted at least through 3 days at a hot music festival!

They have a face version, but I've never tried it for a few reasons (I'm nervous about it breaking me out, being streaky, interacting with other products, etc.)

u/synaestheticmodum · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I second u/pleasekisumi's suggestion to add oil to your routine, but if you are afraid that an oil-based cream would feel too heavy for you to start, I suggest putting in a few drops of non- comedogenic facial oil to your current moisturizer. Great choices are rosehip oil, argan oil, sea buckthorn oil, and meadowfoam oil. I'm acne-prone and use all those oils to great effect. At night, it would be a good idea to seal in the moisture with a water-based sleeping pack (like Laneige water sleeping mask) so you do not lose all your moisture overnight.

For sunscreens, make sure you wait still your moisturizer dries down before applying it. The Japanese make great sunscreens and the array could be dizzying, but here are a few I recommend: this, this, [this](http://www.amazon.com/Biore-SARASARA-Perfect-Bright-SPF50/dp/B00SM99KWA/ref=sr_1_8_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1458088811&sr=1-8&keywords=biore+sunscreen], this, this.

I can't recommend anything more specific than that as there is so much trial and error involved. I personally like watery gels that try down matt, but I make sure to pump my skin with moisture beforehand even though I have oily skin.

Good luck!

u/831106 · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Hi! Welcome to AsianBeauty :)

The absolute first thing I can recommend you look at is this post by our resident starfish jiggler /u/sharkus_reincarnus! There's so much good information here about what an asian skincare regimen looks like and how to get started building yours.

Generally we recommend you start with a sunscreen, and since you have quite dry skin you might want to look for a moisturizer too. Hadalabo UV Whitening Emulsion is a really nice basic sunscreen that is also quite moisturizing.

You mentioned hyaluronic acid, which is actually a fantastic ingredient for dry skin. Despite being called an "acid," it's actually incredibly moisturizing and works as a humectant, which means it draws moisture in from its surroundings and keeps it trapped on your skin. Many people here swear by Hadalabo's hyaluronic acid products like the Super Hyaluronic Acid Face Moisturizing Lotion, which works as a light moisturizer. Hadalabo products in general have very simple and gentle ingredient lists so this might be a good place to start.

Keep in mind that with patch testing, building up to a full routine can take a very long time! It's quite tempting to go out and buy a ton of products and start slapping them on your face but this can cause all sorts of problems if you have a bad reaction to anything.

Also a note about sea creatures: Snail mucin is harvested without harming the snails at all. Starfish is the other popular sea creature around here, and they're actually considered a huge pest in many fisheries and are culled quite frequently, so no starfish are being killed specifically for use in cosmetics. I have no idea if that changes your opinion on those ingredients or not, but I thought I would mention it! :)

This hada labo one does not have alcohol:

http://www.ratzillacosme.com/sun/hada-labo-uv-whitening-emulsion/
This one leaves some sheen after you apply. However it is lighter than the uv cream gel one.

Not spf, but i highly recommend this for super oily skin:

I tried similar prdocuts from dept stores and this one really works for me. Whereas the dept store ones only last an hour or so.

Thank you very much! I booked a hanauma bay tour for friday morning! My wife is super excited!
Also we're planning on getting a couple tubes of this this sun screen and after reading your linked article it seems I have to be very wary of what the package reads as it maybe "lying" to me. So we went ahead and ordered a couple more rashguards each from amazon (we already got a few after reading some other posts here). Thank you again for your help!

u/Karmakerosene · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A hat that will keep the sun out of your face - The sun is not your friend. Sunny days may be beautiful, but they're dangerous! As you know, sun is pretty bad for your eyes and skin. So be sure to be wearing a hat that will shade your face. Also, in addition to the hat, don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses.

As a pale-skinned person, I have learned to do all I can to protect myself. Sunburn is no fun at all! But even if you don't burn and only tan, it's still not good for you.

Well, here's to a sunburn-free vacation! Cheers!

u/City_Chicky · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I also use Elta MD and I am happy with it. Can I ask what made you go with the La Roch-Posay for a waterproof sunscreen instead of Elta's sport sunscreen or the broad spectrum water resistant versions? Or if you did give it a go, what were your thoughts?

u/casablankas · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I don't normally wear face makeup, just moisturizer and Blue Lizard suncreen. It's a bitch to rub in though (super white and leaves a white cast which is okay on my pale skin) so I'd prefer not having to reapply it or carry it with me. Would something like this Neutrogena Sunscreen Stick work for on-the-go reapplication?

u/lovewonder · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use this http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Sunscreen-Ultra-Sheer-Stick/dp/B00HNSSV3U over my makeup just before lunch every day. I apply it to my cheeks and forehead. It's not a perfect solution, but it's the easiest and quickest solution I've found and it doesn't bother my makeup very much at all.

u/the_acid_queen · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Adding in Holika Holika 99% Aloe Soothing Gel! It's enormous, cheap, and incredibly soothing and cooling. At first I just used it if I got too much sun or wind, but now I've started integrating it into my daily routine, and my skin is loving it! It gives a nice, fresh cooling sensation when it goes on, then dries matte without any stickiness and helps keep redness at bay.

u/lilmammamia · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

You cleanse first and then moisturize. You want a gentle cleanser, possibly from a brand considered safe: Cetaphil, Vanicream, Aveeno, CeraVe.

And a no-frill moisturizer, perhaps from one of the brands above (I'll add to the list The Ordinary Normal Moisturizing Factors, First Aid Beauty Face Moisturizer). I'd suggest Vanicream Lite Lotion, it's supposed to be light and I haven't seen too many people have bad things to say about it. People with oily skin also use aloe gels. There's Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, or Holika Holika Aloe Soothing Gel.

And if you care about anti-aging in the long run, add a sunscreen step for the AM. I suggest Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence or Suncover SPF 30 if you can get it (they don't ship to the Americas atm). If you have oily skin and find the sunscreen on top of the moisturizer makes you too oily or you like to save time, you can even skip the moisturizer in the morning, just wash and put sunscreen on your face if that works for you. And moisturize in the evening.

u/femalenerdish · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Holika Holika has an aloe gel that I've seen recommended a lot in /r/Asianbeauty.

Also want to say... Moisturize! Like a lot. Your skin heals so much better if it's well moisturized.

u/beigemom · 2 pointsr/abdiscussion

I love the fact that there are quality brands that do lovely packaging--not so much in purchasing for me, but I've made a couple of gift baskets and it really makes a difference in presentation. Would much rather have this in a gift basket than say anything from Cosrx.

u/luckycutie · 2 pointsr/SebDerm

I heard this is really good, it’s on my shopping list. But I’ve not tried it yet. I’ve sebderm on my eyebrows and it definitely calms the area. You can also try the fresh aloe Vera plant which I’m using now.
I’m also trying out raw honey mask recommended by here few days ago which you put on three hour per day. I know it’s a long time but I don’t know if there’s any use yet. But it’s very itchy during the three hours. I managed to put it through tho.
I also take supplement which is probiotics and fish oil which has omega 3 and it also helps!
There’s a post about how she treats her sebderm with lotrimin ultra. I also got it yesterday and hope it works.
So my routine is:

  • Honey mask at night three hours
    -am: aloe Vera
-pm: aloe Vera underneath lotrimin ultra

Remember to stay away from hydrocortisone cream. I learn my lesson the hard way even I only used it for three- four days. Immediately got a super bad flare up after I stopped for 2 days. My another dermatologist told me Eyebrow and eye area are extremely sensitive.
I hope it helps. I’m also battling with sebderm.

I'm going to stick with Nivea Japan Perfect Water Gel SPF35/PA+++ Pump 140g. Even though it's a little more money for less product, it doesn't sting when it gets into your eyes. It's also available on Amazon and easier than ordering from Rakuten.

u/tacoboutluv · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I'm looking for a sunscreen that doesn't contribute to my oily skin but also doesn't dry me out (do sunscreens that meet both criteria exist??) I have narrowed it down to two options after reading through a lot of reviews/threads on this. Has anyone tried either or both and can help me make a decision? I am debating between:

Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk SPF50

and

Nivea Perfect Water Gel SPF 35 P+++ (I wanted to find the Sun Super Water Gel SPF 50 but this is the only one available)

Skin type: quite oily and dehydrated (sometimes flaky around the eyes)

Country: Canada - currently cold harsh winters

Top skin concern: finding sunscreen that is not greasy but also not drying

Current routine: Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel Cream as day moisturizer; great for oil control but not moisturizing enough. I don't wear foundation/face makeup either so no whitecast would be ideal.

Thank you!

u/submissiveswiss · 2 pointsr/PanPorn

Awesome, you’re welcome! I buy mine on Amazon. I just checked and it’s available from a few sellers but sold out in a couple of them. The seller I buy mine from says it’ll be back in stock on May 28th.

Edit: no idea why the link format is funky, sorry!

u/whatsabrooin · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Normal days I've used the Nivea Sun Protect Water Gel Spf35/Pa +++. I really like this one for every day. Works great under makeup and doesn't irritate my skin.

Recently bought the Biore Uv Aqua Rich Smooth Watery Gel Spf50 + / Pa ++++ to try this summer. The bottle is smaller than the Nivea so not sure if I'll use this on my body...

I definitely use a different set of sunscreens when I go to the beach or plan on any physical activity. If I go in the water, I'll wait to dry down a bit before re-applying. Last summer I used the All-around Safe Block Waterproof Sun Milk SPF50/PA+++ for face.
Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF30 for my body. I used this combo when I climbed a small mountain and it took about 5 hours up and down. Didn't re-apply and didn't burn even though I was sweating like a damn roasted pig.

u/sweet_firefly · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

I love this sunscreen that I found on amazon. The shipping takes a while since it comes from outside the US, but I love it. Doesn't have a strong smell and is light enough for everyday use. I use it primarily on my face and arms. I've had no problems using it under my light (powder) makeup.

u/theeternalnoob · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Quite honestly, the most cost-effective option I've found for this is the regular drugstore aerosol type sunscreens, which tend to rub off quickly on me because I sweat a lot. My current alternative is lots of UV protective clothing, which is more of an investment, but more comfortable and less of a hassle long-term.

These Nivea and Skin Aqua options also get good reviews.

u/ITGCYS · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

You should maybe be aware that there is a possibility that this sunscreen is falsely advertised as being SPF 50 PA+++ and may be closer to SPF 15 PA+. I'm leaving this comment just so people are aware and here is the link to the dialogue that I found disputing the protection of this sunscreen.

(I'm going to message this to the others who asked about it in this thread, just so people are aware.)

u/lurkielurker · 2 pointsr/HaircareScience

I know you said you tend to stay away from gel, but I actually use this pure aloe vera with or without my hair dryer to style my hair. I have a pixie cut that I am growing out, so I too want it out of my face! I'm not sure how this will play with your seb derm, but it certainly has no alcohol in it! My hair really likes it too.

u/Supernumerary · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I use this as a day-to-day sunscreen, and it's super light. SPF 50, doesn't clog my pores, applies like a dream -- no pilling under my makeup -- and has a slight mattifying effect.

u/Alethra · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Here's the link to the subs skincare wiki: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction: it will have all the information to start your routine

Personally as a oily & dehydrated skin, you can a similar skincare routine I use.

Am:

Cerave foming facial cleanser
Witch hazel (I suggest alcohol free, typically alcohol is overdrying & causes more oil to be produced.)
Aloe Vera- it's use it to help hydrate the skin without being acne causing (Don't buy with menthol, it's to overdrying long term & can cause sensitization.)
Cerave lotion
Spf of 50 (It'll help hyperpigmention (dark marks left from acne) from staying & helping to fade them away. You'll will have to reapply from working out & every two hours to keep off the hyperpigmention.

Pm:

Oil cleanse
Cerave foming facial cleanser
Witch hazel (you may find that using twice a day may be too much, you may want to experiment.)
Aloe Vera
Cerave lotion

Link for aloe vera I use, just to save you time for finding aloe vera that doesn't have menthol:

Finally! I have found my people, I too suffer from the tragedy that is breaking out from anything that is not a gel. Fear not, as I have tested many things and I love to share.

  • Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream: This is what started it all, my very first asian beauty product, as well as my very first gel. It was love at first pat, as I have rebought this 8 times, I will never give it up. It is inexpensive, comes in a decent size, and my skin drinks it up.

  • Mizon No 1 King's Berry Aqua Step Up Cream: Holy cow, they weren't kidding aroudn when they packaged this beast. It comes in a huge 300 ml container that I will never finish. I am not a fan of the smell, but I have been using it it as the base of my DIY sheet masks so I will probably repurchase it for that alone.

  • Rohto Hadarabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Cream: This is not 100% a gel, it not a a clear gel but more like half way between a gel and a cream. I never got to properly test it out, but since I discovered cream consistencies were the cause of my breakouts, I don't want to risk it. It sits perched on my mantle of discarded products that I just occasionally look at, open and smell, and then walk away from sadly.

  • Rosette Ceramide Gel: I have only been patch testing this for about 4 days now, it does leave a slightly sticky film but since I plan on using it in my PM routine, I am not all that concerned about it. So far so good, it doesn't have a harsh smell, and my skin feels super refreshed in the morning.

  • Mizon Water Max Aqua Gel Cream: I got a sample of this, and meh. While it does have the gel constancy that I love, I didn't see that it did anything for my skin. I will finish my sample, but I will probably not purchase a full size since I have had much better results from the other Mizon products I have tried.

  • Jelly Suncreen : Hype! Hype! Hype! It is everything that I never knew that I needed. It is both a physical and chemical sunscreen with no alcohol in the ingredients and it is a gel! Now I am the gel goddess that I always knew I could be.

If you burn fast, apply the sunblock (that isn't expired) every 30 mins or so.
Even if it says it will last x amount of hours, apply extra anyway.
After you get out of the water, dry up and re-apply sunscreen.
Also if your body is under the water but you didn't tanning lotion on, don't think you're safe. The UV rays penetrate through the water so you'll still get burned

After tanning, buy 99.7% pure aloe vera gel.
Not the crap from walmart or cvs like banana boat or other genetic brands.
Get the real stuff from amazon.
I get this one for only 12 dollars and it instantly gets rid of minor sun burns.
I highly recommend it, or a similar product like it. it lasts a long time!
Put it in the fridge so it feels extra cool when applied.

u/mr_rainyday · 1 pointr/eczema

I bought a bottle from amazon and have been using it to heal flareups. I only use it at night before I sleep. I use it alongside with Aveeno, like a massive glob, rub that in, and then slather my hands (that's where my eczema is) with the aloe. It's really liquidy, but dries quickly. Then, I immediately put on cotton gloves to trap the moisture in. If my eczema is really bad, aka can't touch water without internally crying inside, then I wear the gloves + aloe + lotion combo during the day as well.

u/kawausokoi · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I'm on 0.04% and am a very fair skinned female (Celtic and Nordic descent) living in California. Even though I'm not typically outside for more than 20% of my day, I still wear a higher SPF/PA++++ because with the tretinoin the risk of sun damage is significantly increased. Any time you leave the house during the day or sit next to a window, you're being exposed to UV of some sort. Do you drive to work? Walk to the store? It may not seem like it, but all those little instances add up. Plus, if you're wearing a chemical sunscreen and not reapplying, it could be entirely broken down by the time you take your lunch break or leave work.

When I started on tretinoin, I had to go very slowly. Even every other night could get to be too much. I'd notice that with specific products (LaRoche Posay Helios sunscreen) my face felt like it was burning on contact, but there was no additional redness. I would also break out far worse when my skin was in that state. I'd damaged my moisture barrier by over-doing the tretinoin, not moisturizing enough, and not staying hydrated.

I also noticed that with the 0.04%, and recent hormonal changes, my skin didn't like oils anymore. A little Argan or Jojoba here and there is ok for me now, but I had to stop them entirely for at least a month before my skin cleared everything.

You're on 0.08%, which is twice the strength of my script. I think you may have dehydrated your skin and damaged your moisture barrier. The CeraVe PM may not be enough right now. From looking at your routine, it seems as though you're over-cleansing with the foaming wash and Clairsonic. Maybe try the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser in the AM or just rinse with water in the AM and use the CeraVe Hydrating at night.

Try stopping the Retin-A for two nights, then do every third night for a week or two, then every other night. I would also back off of the manual exfoliation (Clairsonic) and clay/charcoal masks until the breakouts clear up. With a higher concentration tretinoin in combination with the azelaic acid in the AM, your skin is probably really sensitive now.

I know I recommended the Biore Aqua Riche earlier, but after reading your routine I recommend a more hydrating sunscreen like Elta MD or my new favorite Korean Jelly Sunscreen.

I also highly recommend taking a D3 supplement with some fish oil supplements in the morning and a calcium supplement with dinner. These seem to have helped me a lot, along with taking a much more gentle approach to my skin.

u/LackToesToddlerAnts · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Yeah! In the mornings I wash my face with cold water and while it's little damp I use liquid aloe. It usually sinks in about couple of minutes and I use couple drops of oil to "seal it in" and sunscreen.

At night I wash. Use hyaluronic acid from trader joes and the gel kind. This takes a little longer to completely absorb but I wait till it's 90% absorbed and then use argon oil to seal it in.

Liquid like consistency: https://www.amazon.com/Amara-Organics-Aloe-Organic-Pressed/dp/B00WRN3TBU

For loose skin, I recommend this:

  • Exfoliate daily with exfoliating gloves.
  • Keeping your skin moisturized is a main key, I recommend applying either aloe vera (gel) daily or a body butter with aloe vera. This is because Aloe Vera aids the elasticity in the skin via the collagen.
  • And you can take collagen peptides orally.

Those things will keep the skin firm throughout the process, like they'll be extra skin BUT it'll be firm and not saggy. It'll keep shrinking and won't be as unpleasing to the eye. Good luck and keep up the good work!!!

Thanks for such a detailed response - I really appreciate all the info.

I may follow your lead and jump into a few nights a week since I would love the purge to be over sooner than later!

Re: aloe and niacinamide - unfortunately I think both of those don't work for me. I've tried one type of aloe (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00XTTFI6K?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title) and within minutes had a burning red mess all over my face. As for niacinamide, I've tried two kinds and overnight with both had about twice the CC's I did before.

I will follow your progress closely - you are an inspiration!

u/Hurricane_Alice · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I'm currently using EltaMd UV Shield which is chemical/physical. I'm not happy with it, but it's the only sunscreen that isn't thick and pasty (which causes irritation on my skin when I try to rub it in) and doesn't piss off my skin terribly. I'm sensitive to fatty alcohols, and this sunscreen turns my face red (due to the fatty alcohols), but it helps the overall texture of my skin and I'm able to cover the redness with makeup.

Now, for Asian sunscreens, there are some without alcohols. I've tried the Korean Jelly sunscreen which is supposed to be super moisturizing, and it didn't agree with my skin, but if it's not too pricy, it would be an interesting one to try. It does have fragrance. I'm not sure if this is the cause of my irritation or not, but it worked well under makeup, just didn't help my dehydrated skin like the EltaMd one. It honestly feels like a nice gel-based moisturizer.

Need Sunscreen Help

I just recently bought the [Neutrogena Ultra Dry Touch Sunscreen] (https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Ultra-Dry-touch-Sunscreen-Ounces/dp/B00008IHO3) (except its 55 SPF instead of 30) after seeing it recommended on this sub as a good chemical sunscreen, but EVERYTIME i put it on, without fail, it leaves the absolute worst powdery white residue on my face after 20 minutes or so, like I legitimately look like I've been rolling around in flour. Is this normal? I'm using the recommended 1/4 tsp. amount (although I might be using slightly more, I'm not good with eyeballing).

A few facts about my skin/routine:

  • Normal/Dehydrated Skin
  • Recently started using chemical exfoliants (TO Lactic Acid 10%) and also a Vit C Serum (TO Vit C 23% in Squalene)
  • I don't put anything on on top of the sunscreen/don't wear makeup

If this is normal for this particular sunscreen to leave such a bad white cast, could anyone recommend to me one (in the same price range of ~$10) that doesn't leave a white cast, or atleast not as bad?
u/ders89 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

i have pores so large theyre visible from a decent distance away. Is there a way to decrease their size? I currently use Cetaphil Daily Cleanser twice a day. Once in the morning, once at night before bed. Both in the shower. I periodically wash my face throughout the day but if i miss once chance to get rid of grease i immediately break out within 12 hours. I've tried Proactiv a long time ago, I've tried Clean and Clear spot treatment, Clean and Clear oil absorbing sheets, which works pretty well, i just ran out. Sebamed clear face gel, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch Sunscreen, SPF 30, and even Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, For all skin types and theyve ALL made me breakout except the Cetaphil daily cleanser Normal to Oily skin...

Now i've used all these products at random times... not all on the same. I've really been actively trying to get this under control since late 2014. So each time something makes me breakout, i'll try a new product.. At one time I was using (per the suggestion of a beauty stylist) to use cetaphil daily cleanser, Sebamed face gel, and then Neutrogena Ultra sheer Sunscreen in the morning to get me ready for the day. Then use the absorbing sheets throughout the day to maintain a clean face. Not get any dirt in my pores.

So thats the story... if someone, ANYONE can help me, I would appreciate it so much. If i really need to see a dermatologist, i guess thats my last resort. I really like to try all options before seeing a doc. Please let me know if you can help out. It's greatly appreciated!!!

u/toocoldforhell · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I don't see how any of it would aggravate your acne unless you have a sensitivity to some of the ingredients. I think you should cleanse with water and moisturise in the morning too though. I have no personal experience with that sunscreen but from a quick search it seems it leaves a bad white cast. So I would probably try something else. Maybe this one, also by Neutrogena? Very often recommended in this sub.

Hi there.
I could really use some help getting started with a routine; I've read the sidebar and been on skincare-addiction.com and read quite a lot there about my skintypes and such - but I still feel that this is quite a jungle with a lot of different pitfalls.

Some basic information about me: 21 year old, male, combination skin.

My current routine:

AM: Use a cleanser (with a cotton pad) after waking up, to cleanse my face.

PM: Same as in the morning - clean my head with a cleanser (using a cotton pad).

This is the cleanser I've been using: TEA TREE FACIAL TONER from TheBodyShop

So, obviously my current routine is not enough, as my skin is acting all crazy and has been for quite a few months now.

Can anybody help me on the right path here? Maybe tell me what products to avoid and which one that would suit me?

I've been looking at this:

Clean the skin: [Bioderma Sebium H2O Micelle Solution]
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ZGGPDU/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B005ZGGPDU&linkCode=as2&tag=thdewi-20&linkId=T7GNQK4BIRV3OHSQ)

Cleanser: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser

Exfoliater: Alpha Hydrox Oil-Free Formula

Moisturizing: Moisturizing Cream from CeraVe

Sunscreen: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock, SPF 30, 3 Fluid

How does that look? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Are you using this sunscreen? If so, please stop using it ASAP, it's terrible. It only has one filter oxybenzone, which is not an approved UVA filter in the US, and also is not stable. This sunscreen is not effectively protecting you from the sun.

Right now, you're using Retin-A and AHA, both of which greatly increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun. Since you're not using an effective sunscreen, you're probably making your hyperpigmentation worse. If you want to use Retin-A and AHA, you need a very effective sunscreen. I would recommend Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 55.

u/whiskeyonsunday · 1 pointr/RandomActsofMakeup

My only summer tip is to keep up with your pedicures! I know it seems kind of obvious, but I always just feel more confidant in my sandals if I have a fresh coat of paint on my toes (even if it's just clear polish) and everything is trim and neat. Perfect way to feel fresh and cool in a Heat Wave!

Oh, and one more! If your foundation has SPF 15... that is not enough. SPF 15 is going to do nothing for you, especially if you're fair. And make sure whatever you use protects against UVA and UVB radiation! I've been using Neutrogena's Ultra Dry Touch sunscreen. I go for SPF 55 because I'm pale as hell, but I think it comes in other SPFs.

u/VenomDeathGripSnake · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

So I stopped wearing sunscreen for about 5-6 weeks. I was never outside for more than two minutes a day. I would wear a bandana while driving to cover up my face. I was seeing if sunscreen was the one drying or breaking me out. Now my skin looks all sun damage and inflamed. What can I do about this? My skin is very dry and dehydrated in both pictures but looks a lot worse in the second photo. I'm still trying to get my acne and dry skin in control but now I think I damaged my skin even further... What the hell happened...

Also would CeraVe Hydrating be enough to wash off a chemical sunscreen? Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E96OZG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_H4g8CbAG7E3TC

I've seen Oxybenzone is not good to put on dermatitis but the only sunscreen I've used for over 10 years has been one with it... Any other recommendations? I've had to change everything to try to help this and now my I know my sunscreen is just making it worse...

I totally get it. I used neutrogena brands for this exact purpose for a long time. - they rub in well, feel good, and are light, etc. And while I used to use neutrogena brands, as they work extremely well and apply well (as long as you don't leave them in a hot car!)

My concern with neutrogena brands (ultrasheer drytouch helioplex broad spectrum) lately, however, is that they contain a compound called oxybenzone, which can interfere with hormones apparently. Because of this, I searched long and hard for an alternative that was as effective, but also did not contain oxybenzone. I tried neutrogena's zinc version but somehow it caused MORE burn to occur than their other brand, despite covering my face in a white paste.

I tried a few other brands, and the one I settled on was Banana boat simply protect sport 50+ spf with "25% fewer ingredients made without oxybenzone and parabens".

I will say that the bananaboat brand does not rub in AS well as the neutrogena brands, and it also does not smell as pleasant, but for all intents and purposes does the job. might be worth a try. Despite taking a bit longer to rub in, it is extremely non-greasy and feels really good.

I don't wear makeup so I can't attest to how my favorites do under makeup but I have used Neutrogena Ulta Sheer Dry Touch SPF 55 for a while before trying to explore other ones. I am currently using Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 which was quite pricey and I would not have gone for it if I didn't have a gift card. I can notice a sour smell upon application but it seems to go away immediately. The main ingredients in it are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

u/coykoi · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I'm developing a large brown spot underneath the bag of my right eye. I wear SPF 55 every single day and yes the right amount, limit my sun exposure to walking less than 3 minutes to the metro stop, limit the use of AHA to only at night, and I'm only 23 (if that's relevant). What could I possibly be doing wrong?

u/gender-fuck · 1 pointr/asktransgender

This is what I use to minimize the oil http://www.amazon.com/Murad-Oil-control-Mattifier-SPF-15/dp/B001LNTNGC

Careful using too much setting powder, I used to make that mistake. It will make your foundation look caked on.

I use Mac these days because I finally found one super easy to apply. It's a liquid. Took a lot of playing around to find the right brush as well It doesn't always hide the shadow as well. But I am starting laser in a few weeks. So in a few months that won't be an issue.

u/Therapist13 · 1 pointr/acne

this product by murad is the only product I feel truly has a dramatic effect. I went from extremely oily on my face to back to normal in 1-2 days. I would highly recommend it, although it seems pricey. You only need less than a pea-size.

u/doikk · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I use Murad Oil-control Mattifier SPF 15 Pa++ - 1.7 Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001LNTNGC/. You should reapply after 4-8 hours depending on the oil production of your face. SPF is a plus. It’s been a godsend for me.

u/onlyonecatch · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

I use Murad Oil-Control Mattifier. It is the only thing I've ever tried that actually makes a difference in the amount of oil my skin produces. And that's saying a lot considering I have Mediterranean skin and live in hot, humid Florida. It is pricy, but it is worth it for a quality product that actually works. Also it happens to be on sale on Amazon right now! http://www.amazon.com/Murad-Oil-Control-Mattifier-SPF-1-7/dp/B001LNTNGC

u/armenianlover · 1 pointr/SkincareAddicts

Not sure what kind of skin you have but I really love this Murad Mattifier Sunscreen. I have pretty sensitive skin and this was one my dermatologist recommended.

u/TalkForeignToMe · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

No apology needed! I guess I kind of forgot that this is a real dermatologist and I'm a real patient to him, and what I say/think/feel matters, haha. It was just so easy a process that it seemed like an online quiz that pops out automated results and ships a package, you know?

I have oily skin, which I guess is a factor in this, too, and I forgot to mention in my original response to you :P

Lazy copypasta of his message to me:

  1. Use a cleanser designed for oily skin. Panoxyl 4% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Creamy Wash http://amzn.to/1mPHbrD is a favorite with my patients, as is Clean & Clear Advantage 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser (5%) http://amzn.com/B002UC5ZVA. Topix Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Wash http://amzn.to/1tIUqAl is another more economical option, although higher concentrations of benzoyl peroxide do not necessarily work better, and sometimes can irritate more.

  2. Use an oil-free sunscreen. EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 http://amzn.to/1mGsHz is a good option. If you want a mattifier, try Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 http://amzn.com/B001LNTNGC .

I purchased Fake Bake Flawless about a week ago off Amazon and just received it yesterday. I exfoliated and then put it on before bed last night. I woke up with a beautiful golden tan. The shade is a bit lighter than others that I have used but it looks SO much more natural! My boyfriend usually complains when I use self tanner because of the DHA smell and he thinks it looks unnatural. He actually commented this morning that he did not smell anything at all and that it looks super natural, like I just got back from vacation. If you want a really dark tan you can build it and use it a couple days in a row. But the shade of my skin right now looks so natural and the mitt it comes makes blending so easy and eliminates any streaking. I love it and am so happy I got this just before summer starts so I can look bronzed without risking the sun damage. Here's the link where I bought it, check out the reviews there too they are so helpful! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046VGPHQ/ref=pe_309540_26725410_item

St. Tropez foam in the black bottle with teal cap is awesome but may be a little pricey. It doesnt smell bad and isnt too terribly sticky. I use it once or twice a week.
My ALL TIME favorite is Fake Bake. I use it everyday, its smells so good like mocha or something, not even a little bit lkke self tanner. It is also not one but sticky! It comes with a microfiber mitt for application so there is never any streaks and its never orange. This is the best ive ever used and only around 14 bucks :) great reviews on amazon, too!

Yes, it is. Not only does every tanning bed exposure increase your risk for skin cancer linearly, but tanning beds will also wrinkle your skin and make it splotchy. If you want an even, youthful tan to your skin, order a fake tanner. My favorite is Fake Bake

Shiseido SENKA | Sunscreen | Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++ 40ml

u/theunoriginalman-let · 1 pointr/Accutane

I recently bought this sunscreen that's imported from Japan.
Shiseido SENKA | Sunscreen | Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++ 40ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Q1WT58/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_MLfCxb051J7JQ

It contains zinc oxide and has absolutely NO white cast. It also does leave any residue, but does not dry you out. That's especially important to me because my face is still oily even though I'm on 40mg of Absorica per day (Male, 145lbs, 21yrs). It's my holy grail sunscreen that's for sure. The FDA has yet to approve many ingredients that the rest of the world already uses in their sunscreens, so it's pretty "advanced" compared to American sunscreens. Good luck.

u/SomeGuyTHPS · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Is this the same as this?

u/anaemiclittlepotato · 1 pointr/SkincareAddictionUK

I have very oily and pretty acne prone skin, and so far (two weeks of use) I'm really liking this one

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shiseido-SENKA-Sunscreen-Mineral-Water/dp/B004Q1WT58

It is very runny and sinks in pretty quickly (3 or 4 minutes) and I can apply foundation using a cushion (from a bb cushion compact) very easily - no pilling. It also looks great with no makeup on top. It isn't oil controlling, but it doesn't make my skin any more oily than normal either. Haven't noticed a change in the amount of acne I have either, so for me that's a win. I can't really comment on white cast because I am deathly pale, but it's a chemical filter sunscreen so white cast shouldn't be a huge issue

I have such oily skin that I don't bother with an AM moisturiser, which means I apply this straight on top of a hydrating toner. However, I have tested it on top of a few lightweight gel moisturisers and it doesn't seem to change the amount of oil I produce, or how easily the sunscreen dries down. So you could just stick to your normal AM moisturiser and layer this on top.

Btw I have never bought it from that Amazon seller so I can't comment on how genuine the seller is - I just posted that link to easily show you which one it is because there are several SPFs with very similar names to that one so searching for it can get confusing. I bought mine on yesstyle but might check out Amazon for my replacement.

I'm looking for a perfect sunscreen. Have tried Shiseido SENKA Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++, too heavy, and am now on Lancome UV Expert XL-Shield™, which is lighter, but I'm not loving the fragrance and it is shiny.

Next on my list is Biore KAO JAPAN AQUA RICH Sarasara SPF50+ PA++++, which I must have heard good things about somewhere (I added it to my Amazon wishlist a while ago). Has anybody tried it, liked it?

Hello r/AsianBeauty ! Long time lurker looking to implement more AB products into my routine. I am 22F with combination oily skin with dry spots on my cheekbones. I developed a routine half a year ago with the help from r/SkincareAddiction sidebar information. The skincare products I use at the moment seem to work for me short-term; my face feels soft and refreshed after use, but after I wake up or get home from work the oil appears to have accumulated.

I am mostly looking for foam cleanser recommendations. My current cleanser (Cleansing Story) was purchased from Marshall's and I do not live near stores that carry many AB products. I am also trying to transition from the Neutrogena to an AB cleanser.

I would greatly appreciate any pointers, tips, or recommendations. The AB routine seems really intimidating and I would like to start with 1 or 2 products. There is also a huge list of websites to order from and I am overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sites, products, and effectiveness. Which product(s) would be a good starting point for beginners? I have only ever used TonyMoly, Cleansing Story, and Face Shop (face masks) but am more than willing to try different brands. I am also on a budget, so products less than $25 are ideal. Thank you in advance!

I'm in the market for a new sunscreen. I've recently come to the discovery that chemical sunscreens aren't supposed to burn and sting my face, so I'd like a physical sunscreen for my sensitive skin. I used Neutrogena Dry Touch before, and now their Sensitive Skin sunscreen, but even on my paper-white face I can see a white cast.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a sunscreen that absorbs quickly, dries to a satin or matte finish, and is purely physical and/or caters specifically to people with sensitive skin and possibly rosacea? I know this narrows the field significantly, but I'm open to any sunscreen recs SCA has (Asian, EU, etc).

So far, the sunscreens I've been able to compile that SCA loves that seem to fit my needs but I'm still not entirely sure are good for me are:

  1. Missha All Around Safe Block Soft Finish Sun Milk Spf50 Pa+++ 70ml Sunscreen
  2. Biore sarasara UV Perfect Face Milk Sunscreen 30ml. SPF50 + PA++++ for Face
  3. Biore SARASARA UV Bright Face Milk BIHADA Sunscreen 30ml SPF50+ PA++++ for Face

Soap like bar soap/hand soap? I think switching to a gentle creamy cleanser or using the oil cleansing method will help you a lot. Bar/hand soaps will have a much higher pH than your skin, which over time is damaging.

I use hemp oil OCM and then double cleanse using Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. Personally I don't use CeraVe products as I have had negative reactions to them but they are highly recommended around here. I don't have experience with the rest so I can't comment on them, but it looks like only the first three are cleansers.

(You probably already know this but--You'll want to be sure to only introduce one new product at a time after patch testing. I suggest tackling the cleanser first.)

I also suggest wearing >30 SPF sunscreen daily! I'm not a sunscreen queen so I hope someone else can chime in to help, but I do know that a lot of them contain alcohol which I would avoid if I were you because it's rather drying. I'm using this Shiseido Senka sunscreen, which does contain alcohol but I don't find it to be drying at all--it's rather moisturizing actually.

Honestly it sounds like you have dehydrated skin. I've linked a number of resources available on the SCA blog and the sidebar:

oh, just recalled this sunscreen too. The Shiseido Senka is more "primer like" than the Biore one. It also is physical not chemical sunscreen so if that works better for your skin go for this one over the Biore.

u/idlehen · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Right now I'm using a Shisedo sunscreen that works pretty well but I'm also a fan of Hada Labo UV Creamy and Biore's Watery Essence (just got their PA++++ version). Biore's leave a soother finish for makeup but the other two work fine too.

If you want a physical sunscreen I've tried Innisfree's Eco Safety Perfect Sunblock which I think is mostly physical (I think it has one chemical sunblock in it). I do like it but there is a slight scent so I don't know if that will irritate your skin or not. It does leave a very very minimal white cast and a ever so slightly tacky feeling. I think Innisfree has a 100% physical one but I'm not sure which it was (I think it was the waterproof one)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007K1TJIQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The sunbears one is very minty and I like how it feels on my face when it's hot out :) So if you have adverse reactions to menthol maybe don't try that one

u/WillowLeaf · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Japanese sunscreen! It's non-greasy and blends in nicely. As an example, I get this one

u/ganitsirk · 1 pointr/MakeupAddiction

Here's the exact link of the one I bought, so yeah, that. Long name!

Thank you, thank you, sank you!!!! I am in South America, and these are hard to find, but I'll get them shipped. I just got the Shiseido SENKA | Sunscreen | Mineral Water UV Gel SPF50 PA+++ and the SKIN AQUA | Sunscreen Lotion | Moisture Milk Whitening | SPF50+ PA+++ So I guess I'll be a happy little girl out in the sun as soon as they arrive. Right now I'm using Avène très haute protection lotion 50SPF, but it leaves me looking like a ghost, a mime, a mummy!!! it protects alright but I have a yellowish/olive tint on my skin and you can't imagine how weird that shit looks on me, even makeup doesn't cover it all that well... agh

In what order should I apply/ use:

Stridex pads

Cerave

Sunscreen

u/throwaway_helpwface · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I recently read through this thread about treating dehydrated skin - seems you need ceramides & fatty acids, not just a good moisturizer, to actually repair the moisture barrier.

I am pretty convinced I have oily skin, not dehydrated, but I want to try out some barrier-repairing products just to see.

Does anyone have any affordable product recommendations? And how would you incorporate them? My location is Colorado USA, and I prefer to shop online at Ulta/Amazon/Sallys, etc.

I was considering CeraVe Healing Ointment, although I am nervous about using something so greasy (I hate the way most occlusives feel, and I toss and turn all night so it would get everywhere)

Edit - Current routine:

AM

  • Garnier mattifying micellar water (green cap)
  • Sometimes this sunscreen

    PM

  • Cleanse with Free and Clean Liquid Cleanser
  • Vanicream Lite Lotion
  • Melazepam (Haven't been using this for the past week or so, but plan to add it back in)

I'm happy to see this as I just ordered this guy yesterday. $9 and free shipping, what what! I hope I'm not getting my hopes too high

Just Amazon. But either you wait a month, or you pay double for express shipping. The best that can be expected, I guess.

u/LilyeaneBlack · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I use sheisedo SENKA mineral water sunscreen

Moisturizer i use Avene products but they are pretty pricey. You can look into pure oils - i love love love sunflower seed oil - absorbs quickly and, to me, is extremely luxeroius and moisturizing.

The sheisedo also is an extremely matte-fying sunscreen which is a bonus.

u/Fastfile · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I highly recommend this sunscreen. It absorbs very quickly and is not greasy at all. I used amazon prime and got it for about 7-8 dollars in like two days, doesn't hurt to try! http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004Q1WT58?ref%5F=redir%5Fmdp%5Fmobile&pldnSite=1

u/sailorfricker · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Thank you for your suggestion! Is it this one on Amazon?

u/UWalex · 1 pointr/AdvancedRunning

I wear sunscreen if I'm going to be in the sun for 2 hours or more. My favorite brand is thinksport https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SNM6OK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 because it holds up really well to sweat. Great for when you're doing something athletic.

u/mrvoteupper · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

You might want to try : Nivea Sun

It's not coppertone level cheap, but it won't white cast you, is ~$13 and change for 5oz and would likely be a good choice for an indoor facial sunscreen

u/sspeakup · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I've been eyeing the Skin Aqua Moisture Gel and Nivea Sun Protect!

u/9876556789 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

My routine is still under construction. I am working to reduce redness, Melasma and PIH as well as improve my complexion overall.

AM

  • Cleanse: DIY cleansing oil (3:1 sweet almond oil to castor oil) applied prior to shower. This gives the oils time to work and also protects my face from shampoo and conditioner.
  • Cleanse: Remove oil with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and a microfiber cloth.
  • Cleanse: Once every week or two I'll use Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque.
  • Brighten: Hyaluronic Acid
  • Protect: Nivea Protect Water Gel Sunscreen

    PM

  • Cleanse: Wash with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, a Konjac sponge and a microfiber cloth.
  • BHA: Stridex in the red box
  • AHA: Alpha Hydrox Enhanced Lotion 10% Glycolic AHA
  • Brighten: Hyaluronic Acid
  • Moisturize: Cerave Moisturizing Lotion

The next thing I want to add is a vitamin C serum in the AM. Beyond that I'm not sure.

Apart from the oils and sunscreen, most of these represent the first brand I've tried for a given product. I am undecided if I'll switch brands when the ones above run out. I'm not looking forward to patch testing and starting over but how else will I know if something else works better?

I soak my Konjac sponge in white vinegar weekly and use a new microfiber cloth each day.

IIRC, using half the amount of recommended sunscreen gives you the square root of the SPF. So using 1/8 tsp of SPF 50 would give you ~7 SPF.

I do use the full 1/4 tsp. Some sunscreens are really good at sinking in quickly and not being greasy. Asian sunscreens are popular for that reason. I just finished a bottle of this sunscreen, which isn't too expensive and wasn't very greasy. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch is also pretty popular around here and easy to find.

u/fcvapor05 · 1 pointr/IAmA

Have you ever tried sunscreen in stick form? I feel like if you haven’t already, this might make applying sunscreen much easier for you to do out in public, since you don’t have end up with white goop that you have to rub in, and you can apply it liberally without getting it all over your hands. It goes on colorless and you can apply it extremely quickly without making a mess or having to wash your hands after.

Once I discovered this stuff, it’s the only sunscreen I use.

I've tried to embrace the "solid" products as much as I can.

You can make (or buy) toothpaste dots.

I've done solid shampoo and conditioner. I don't like it for trips where I need to look good, but for beach/adventure trips where I'm getting the "beach hair" look anyway I'll do solids.

Might want to look into a solid moisturizing bar.

I also swear by solid sunscreen, and I usually turn into a lobster, so I can promise it works. Either this kind or this kind.

I've left mascara and lipsticks loose in my bags and haven't had problems. I also second the recommendation to get TSA Pre-check for a little extra.

u/PBRidesAgain · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Stick sunscreen. Goes directly on and is much less greasy because it's not in liquid format. https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Ultra-Non-Greasy-Sunscreen-Spectrum/dp/B00HNSSV3U

u/eperdu · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Yep! Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face & Body Stick Sunscreen Broad Spectrum Spf 70, 1.5 Oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HNSSV3U/

I’m hoping it doesn’t melt since he goes to the race track. :)

u/CriminalKraken · 1 pointr/Nails

I've heard of people wearing sunscreen on their hands while their nails are curing! Might be a good idea from here on out. Wearing sunscreen any time you're exposed to UV is the best form of anti-aging protection around!

https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sunscreen_recs

If you don't wanna rub in a liquid and risk messing up your nails, you might wanna try this stick stuff. I love it. It feels super silky and I keep it in my purse at all times.

However, if you're concerned or hurting you should see a doctor!

u/mastiii · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Dr. Lin Daily Hydrating Gel is a popular one. It's not 100% aloe, but I've used it and it looks just like aloe vera gel (no fragrance, totally clear, gel texture), which makes me believe it's mostly aloe. Aloe vera alone isn't very hydrating, so this moisturizer has hyaluronic acid and glycerin to help add some moisture to your skin. It's pretty lightweight.

Holika Holika 99% Aloe Soothing Gel is another popular one.

If you don't like those, I will say that aloe vera is really really easy to grow at home :)

u/digoxinprincess · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

You sound a lot like me, I had perfect skin before I turned 20, now a few years later I too am taking spironolactone 100 mg. I also look pale and tired haha. I see you're using phloretin CF, that has a lot of alcohol in it. Have you considered CE Ferulic? Similar price point I believe. I hate cerave/cetaphil, I use Elta foaming facial cleanser once a day (in the AM I use bioderma sensibio micellar h2o). For looking "poreless" not really but something that has helped a lot is biologique recherche p50 lotion. It is an active so you can't go too hard, but I love it. I also use prescription tazorac, a retinoid. What helps my skin stay hydrated is using many layers of mostly Asian Beauty products, ones that contain aloe, propolis, hyaluronic acid, snail mucin, etc. and spraying rose water in between. If you're interested in specifics let me know! I will say my favorites are the vita propolis ampoule, this aloe gel, this sake toner, and this snail essence

u/jenrazzle · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

There were a bunch of product recommendations for the Holika Holika 99% Aloe Soothing Gel in the gift thread the other day. Definitely looking forward to buying it. But you might not get it in time so I would recommend using a heavy moisturizer and drinking lots of water!

u/Ealynne · 1 pointr/NaturalHomeRemedies

oh I didn't give you the link. I do that often...also with email attachments. Anyways, I would try the third one. If you have arrowroot powder, maybe use that instead of cornstarch. Arrowroot is really good for you and it's mentioned in fantasy books sometimes which makes it cool. Here's the 99 percent aloe I buy. All the preservatives are natural http://www.amazon.com/Aloe-Vera-Gel-Irritated-Sunburned/dp/B00KRJPE00/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1464758479&sr=8-1&keywords=99+aloe+vera

Im happy to hear! cool!

Also in my hair products I ditched all moouse, or hair gel etc etc.
Now I just simply use some moisturizer that is non comedogenic
(https://www.amazon.com/Differin-Balancing-Moisturizer-4-Ounce/dp/B01MDKGOYB/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1510351051&sr=8-2&keywords=differin+moisturizer)

And I use this amazing Aloe Gel Cold Press
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WRN3TBU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

That way I avoid anything on the hair scalp that could drip down to the forehead causing clogs or irritation. ;)
Glad to help!

i am a male and i use to have very similar problems like you around my cheek areas. I literally tried every moisturizer i could to see if anything helped. I started using oil cleansing with almond oil which softened up the problem but my skin would still crack up. Through trial and research i have managed to control dermatitis for now. I have replaced my daily moisturizer with a mixture of argan oil and aloe vera gel. I use this twice a day(morning after i wake up and night after dinner). The good thing is that i don't even feel the mixture on my skin and it has helped soothing my skin immensly. I am not sure if it will work for u but u can give it a try. You can use any aloe vera gel and argan oil u wish but make sure they are good quality. I personally use this two:

Hey guys I'm looking to purchase some aloe vera gel and came across Seven Minerals brand.
