I wear a square leg style speedo. (https://www.amazon.com/Speedo-Endurance-Polyester-Square-Swimsuit/dp/B000YZAHEA/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8)
Would I notice a difference switching to a brief style speedo?
you have to love the speedo vanquishers. i've used them since I was 10. it has three different nose piece sizes so I'm sure one will fit you. http://www.amazon.com/Speedo-Vanquisher-Mirrored-Goggle-Silver/dp/B001GFLSIQ/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1457102306&sr=1-1-fkmr1&keywords=vanguisher+goggles

There are 3 basic types of mens suits:
I like these silicone ear plugs:

I haven't tried them with the hood, yet, but I don't think there will be any issues.
Not original commenter, but my caps only let in water around the edge. My favorite cap is the Speedo silicone long hair cap. It's got an oblong shape with extra room for all my hair!

i really really hope you actually buy these and shower with them and feel really fucking weird while doing it but not give a fuck because how smart you are for buying them in the first place.
$10 on Amazon. 3/5 stars (47 reviews) with 38% being 5 star reviews and 37% being 1 star.
Most common complaints: too tight, product breaks/tears, does not make you swim faster.
I've used products similar to these and they absolutely help you swim faster, assuming you're swimming freestyle and have the upper body strength to pull the added resistance. These ones however are sized for children and will likely become trash shortly after the first use.

I swear by these. Cheaper than the docs pro plugs, stay in much better, and you can still hear (sometimes) depending on the size of your ear canal. Sometimes I have to push them up a little to get normal hearing back. But honestly, I'll trade not hearing well in the lineup with not having ten gallons of water stuck in each ear any day.
Try it on her back hooking your fingers up just slightly to stimulate her G spot. If that doesn't work, flip over to 69 as you have been. Doesn't hurt to add super-sexy accessories either.
I have some blood vessels close to the surface, so blowing out through my nose under water can give me random bloody noses for the season. I get your sensitivity too (only outside, not pools).
Get some nose plugs. I tried 3-4 different kinds and finally liked the cressi. When I first started wearing them, I had to adjust them every second lap. Then my breathing improved to not contrort my face so much and I rarely if ever adjust them, in pool or a 2.4mi OW. I like the cressi because I can make them the right tighness and they grip better than those crap plastic or other materials.

I need to stop procrastinating and actively look for graduate schools!! Feeling productive would help lots :)

It sounds as though you aren't scared of the water, just that you don't know how to start. That's good.
Get yourself a kickboard. That way, you have something to hold onto while you learn the basics. Also, swimming goggles. The inability to see clearly under water scares some people.
Start by learning how to kick:
Hold the front of the board, so you're kind of propped up on top, and kick you legs. Do it rhythmically; don't flail. Keep your toes pointed out (away) and your legs straight.
Then learn how to breath:
Now hold your board at the end closer to you. Don't lock your arms, so you have room to turn your head. Keep your head facing down/angled away, you'll hurt your neck otherwise. When you need to take a breath, turn your head to the side (alternate sides if you can) instead of popping it directly upward. This should get you comfortable with having your head under the water most of the time.
Side note: getting pool water in your ears or eyes is really not that bad. The ears might hurt like a sonofabitch, but it doesn't happen often, and some alcohol drops make that go away. The eyes will just sting slightly, but you can still see decently without goggles. Don't be afraid of either.
Getting the arms going:
Same thing as the previous step, except now you'll be taking strokes with your arms, too. Stroke: dip your hand and a bit of your forearm in the water (don't go deeper!), and pull back steadily along the top foot-or-so of water until your hand is near your waist. Then use your elbow to bring it up and out of the water and move it just above the top of the water to hold on to the kickboard again. Alternate sides (must be left-right-left-right (apologies for the Coldplay reference)). When you have to breathe, turn your head to the side of that stroke (while your arm is coming up to the kickboard) and take a quick breath. These are short and strong breaths, lasting between half of a second and a full second. The more relaxed you are, the longer your breaths will last. Your strokes should not coincide with your kicks; kick continuously, but make your strokes long and slow.
Get rid of the kickboard:
Now, put it all together! You'll be stroking and kicking more quickly, so try to breathe every three or four strokes. Don't forget to look forward so you don't crash into a wall!
Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you want more clarity or suggestions on something.
I'll always recommend 0-1650 in the sidebar, and a jammer is worth the $25-35 you will spend for a polyester one that will last you a very long time. Trunks will likely be discouraging and hinder form.

If you have a local swim shop, I'd wager their jammers are cheaper than Dick's by a wide margin.
Square shorts
I prefer these as jammers stretch over my knees as they stretch out over a month.
Honestly I type in Burkini, and find many non Muslim specific styles. Burkini ends up meaning modest, they can be just to the elbows and knees. For example: https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjT1c2e6v7jAhWX-GQKHdBICewYABAVGgJwag&ae=1&sig=AOD64_2tbemUBIYyK9HFtzHmPBLzSy8emw&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwiq3cee6v7jAhVKslQKHTJxC2EQg-UECNUH&adurl=https://www.amazon.com/TianMaiGeLun-Swimwear-Islamic-Swimsuit-Beachwear/dp/B07S7PRQ8Z/ref%3Dasc_df_B07S7PRQ8Z/%3Ftag%3Dhyprod-20%26linkCode%3Ddf0%26hvadid%3D366384436496%26hvpos%3D1o12%26hvnetw%3Dg%26hvrand%3D1866318349531600064%26hvpone%3D%26hvptwo%3D%26hvqmt%3D%26hvdev%3Dm%26hvdvcmdl%3D%26hvlocint%3D%26hvlocphy%3D9033290%26hvtargid%3Daud-801657747996:pla-800315247819%26psc%3D1%26tag%3D%26ref%3D%26adgrpid%3D79098075547%26hvpone%3D%26hvptwo%3D%26hvadid%3D366384436496%26hvpos%3D1o12%26hvnetw%3Dg%26hvrand%3D1866318349531600064%26hvqmt%3D%26hvdev%3Dm%26hvdvcmdl%3D%26hvlocint%3D%26hvlocphy%3D9033290%26hvtargid%3Daud-801657747996:pla-800315247819
I think I have finally found the perfect goggles for me. I swam in two pairs of Aqua Spheres for a while and every once in a while they would leak in the pool and I am not sure why. I was pissed when they leaked during a race and I had to stop like 5 times to empty them out. I moved to Roka R1s which have a nice mirror lens but they gave me suction cup eyes and they would still leak from time to time.
After reading around reddit and other sites I decided to give the TYR nest a try. They are perfect and have never allowed a single drop of water to get close to my eyes both in the pool and in the open water. I wish they were more tinted for OWS.
I've had both the Vanquisher 1.0 and 2.0 and hate the way they leave your eyes all raccooned. They are just too tight. Not to mention they start to fog after a few weeks.
I found these on amazon and never looked back. These are so so comfortable and, literally, they have never leaked while I was doing laps. Best part, the fog protection doesn't fade.
My hair is super long and thick, I braid it and then put it in a bun and use the Speedo long hair swim cap!
Sure. These are moldable ones for your ear that look much more comfortable but i'm not sure how reusable they would be.

Moldable Putty Ear Plugs

Reusable - These are a bit more expensive but if you're going to be using often then they might be worth the extra cost.

I looked around a little bit, but if you want you can go ahead and few other brands/types that will work good for you. The other option was these little like acorn pine tree looking things. They looked a bit scary/painful to me but they might work great who knows. These seem more friendly.
I have been a competitive swimmer for roughly 9 years and the highest recommendation I can give is a Speedo Endurance Plus jammer. They last about a year swimming 1-3 times a day 6 days a week. They usually only go out because the drawstring breaks or the suit comes apart at the seams. They have similar waist sizes to jeans and regular trousers.

I have really long hair and have tried different caps. I did an Amazon review with pictures for the Aegend long hair cap comparing it to the TYR long hair, Friendly Swede and Lahtek. I’ve never tried regular size caps, but if you just have a big head but not a lot of hair I’d say the Friendly Swede might be the best (of the ones i have tried) because it doesn’t have the bump out. I don’t know if it will help but you can find the images in the reviews here:

(sorry I don’t know how to link to an individual review and hope this is allowed)
The speedo jammers do tend to be a bit thin - I feel they are more sleek even for a non-tech suit. Not sure why yours are becoming loose? Are you wringing them out during the wash? I recommend just gently squeezing out the water then rolling them into a dry towel to get more water off before laying flat to dry. A bit anal yes, but it keeps my swimwear in good shape.
If you want something thicker and more stretchy, look at TYR. I have had good experience with this particular model:
https://www.amazon.com/TYR-Solid-Durafast-Jammer-Black/dp/B001M9KYL8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1519832601&sr=8-4&keywords=Tyr+jammer
My most recent pair lasted about a year of training 6 days a week. Just replaced it with the same model.
I wear these metal nose clips when doing laps. You can get 8 for $10. You can adjust them. The plastic ones seemed to break too. quickly.

For times you are without them, practice exhaling SLOWLY from your nose anytime your face is in or under the water
I use these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014EVJ06
They have rubber grips which keep them from sliding. I have the same problem.
Thanks for writing so fast! I'm still not sure if I should get square legs or jammers... I found some endurance+ on amazon:
here are the square legs:
https://www.amazon.com/Speedo-Endurance-Polyester-Square-Swimsuit/dp/B000YZEJ2G/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=speedo%2Bsquare%2Bleg&qid=1551067719&s=gateway&sr=8-2&th=1&psc=1
here are the jammers:
https://www.amazon.com/Speedo-Endurance-Polyester-Jammer-Swimsuit/dp/B000YZPLZ0/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=speedo%2Bjammers&qid=1551068156&s=gateway&sr=8-5&th=1&psc=1
How do those look? I am a very skinny person, and so I am wondering if I might want the Jammers for extra warmth.
With the endurance+, are they still fast? I don't need super sonic fast, but I don't want to be bogged down either. Do you have endurance+?
Damnit! I was going to row in my jammers, I thought it would be comfy.
I was looking at this swim cap: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000FGZSNI/ref=aw_cr_image
The reviews are good.
i used to use the vanquisher 2 goggles but recently found these and they are awesome!!!

Lululemon clothing... once you get some, you won't go back to anything else. It's all very nice, albeit expensive, and if you have any problems with it they'll take care of it. Check out the Metal Vent Tech shirt. The Pace Breaker short might be the one for you.
Smartwool socks. Breathable, high-quality wool socks. You may not normally think of wool socks for running, but they keep you cool, don't smell, and wick sweat.
For goggles, I like Aqua Sphere. Check the Kaiman out.
Instead of underwear, get shorts with a liner (like what I linked above). That way, you need to own/wash fewer things.
I have an old metal tackle box I got at a garage sale when I was a kid that I repainted and use for thread, findings and tools. I have a separate 1970's sewing box (just like my mom has) for all of the patterns, bias tapes and trims and anything that wont fit in the tackle box.
I also have one of the plano, large tackle boxes with the individual lidded divided trays inside for my beads. My only caution for others thinking of that same solution...go with 2 smaller boxes. My big box filled wiyh stone and glass beads and tools weighs close to 30 pounds.
I keep the majority of my individual components in a Plano 7592-01 tackle box. That gives me 4 trays that seal really well (so components don't change bins), plus the top has a larger area where I keep some arduino shields (in their boxes) along with a standard-sized breadboard. The lid also has a few storage spots. The dividers in the tray can be rearranged as well. I'd just look for one that has trays that seal really well so your parts don't shift around.
All of my larger stuff (in-progress projects, etc) go in a 2' L x 1_1/2' H x 1_1/2'W plastic bin.
