Check out r/Surface. There's a lot of people over there who I'm sure would help you with your problems.

Wacom has released the driver for full support in Photoshop as of May 10th.

As far as sensitivity goes this guide really helped me out a lot. You may also look into getting a Bamboo FEEL, which has the circuit in the tip of the pen and has greater accuracy.

You may try bumping the power settings up to get a boost in power. You can actually manually go into each individual part of the machine and set it to High. I have a power setting specifically for when I'm doing intensive work or gaming on it. Of course this kills the battery, but it's worth it when you need that extra power. I have my Power Options pinned to the start screen so that I have easy access when switching between tasks.

I don't do a whole lot of typing, so the type keyboard is probably more than I need, but I was wary of the touch keyboard. I actually enjoy using the onscreen keyboard (because it's so big), but that's really just a personal preference.

EDIT: Corrected keyboard type.

When I'm out & about: In this bumper case

When I'm at home: In this charger/stand

I think there is really only one option here: Install a dedicated tablet for the bathroom configured for that one access point.

OneDrive
Have it on your SP4, your phone, and make sure you can access it from your computer. Leave all your necessary school files and even draft files on it. If you need to print somewhere or your Surface dies when you're using it your work will be ready to continue on another device.

HDMI/VGA adapter
get a set if you do regular presentations

USB Hub
1 USB port will not be enough

Zagg 10-Key Bluetooth Number Pad
As an Accounting major this was the best purchase I made, see my review and link to purchase here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/2x3pwu/zagg_10_key_bluetooth_numeric_keypad_first/?context=10

UAG Case
If you're the type to get Otterbox's/LifeProof/UAG cases for your phone, definitely get this for the Surface: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Feather-Light-Composite-Aluminum-Military/dp/B016ATD48O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1483771384&sr=8-2&keywords=uag+case+surface+pro+4

Bluetooth Mouse
The Microsoft Arc mouse is a great compact mouse. Do not get a USB mouse you will regret using the port. Careful not to get the USB version of the Arc mouse btw. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=microsoft+arc+mouse+bluetooth&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amicrosoft+arc+mouse+bluetooth

Screen Protector
I got a matte one for my SP3. If you plan on using the pen then this might not be desirable to you. I tried using the pen for notes and using OneNote for my first semester but it became useless as I type faster than I take notes. A Matte screen protector always feels good and you will rarely ever have to wipe and clean the screen.

iStudiez is awesome. I really don't use it to it's full capability but I can't find anything else that keeps my class schedule so neat and organized.

For the stylus, I really liked the Wacom Bamboo for iPad. The tip is supposed to be a bit smaller and it does write and move very smoothly.

Now a question. Why Notebooks for iPad? What other apps did you try? I'm just curious because I've had this on my Appshopper wishlist forever. Currently I use Notability for the same reasons you listed for liking Notebooks (formatting, bullet points) so just wondering what else in particular drew you to this app?

lamicall stand

I use this one. It’s great, and looks pretty sleek

u/DocCalculus · 12 pointsr/Nexus7

This one's been great for me for the last 4-5 months. Slim, light-weight and reasonably simple/attractive looking. That said, the pricing is looking a little weird right now.

When I got my Paperwhite I did some research and found the OMOTON case. It's light, sturdy, and has a magnetic flap. Multiple color choices. The outside texture is nice, enough grip so it doesn't feel like it slides out of my hand. $14.99 on Amazon now. The price fluctuates though, I got mine for $10.

u/Neralo · 10 pointsr/Android

So I actually do use a tablet for school that I take notes on and actually have written a few of my reports on as well. Honestly, any tablet would be fine (I'm using a Sony Tablet S. not the Xperia Tablet S, just the Tablet S). What matters is the apps and accessories you use with it.

Apps

I study business, so I don't really need to do a lot of writing. Instead, i type most of my notes out on Evernote. When I do need to write stuff, then I'll use Lecture Notes, though there is a free alternative, but I can't remember its name right now.

Accessories

Unless you choose a tablet that comes with a keyboard (Like some of Asus's offerings, you'll want a portable keyboard. There are some case/keyboard hybrids for certain devices like the one for the Nexus 7 I linked. If not, I highly recommend (and use myself) the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android. As for stylus, I use the Adonit Jot Pro cos it helps me write in my cursive scrawl better than most other stylii. Of course if the tablet comes with a stylus, use that.

You mentioned getting a Note 8. I personally feel that might be a little small, and I prefer a larger tablet, maybe 9.5" to 10", just cause its closer to paper size, so it'll be easier to write on. So i'd suggest a Nexus 10, or possibly a Sony Xperia Z, and also the Galaxy Note 10.1.

u/mineofgod · 9 pointsr/ipad

Absolutely, 1000%, get this case.

I use the iPad almost exclusively for drawing, and I find this case to be perfect for nearly every position I find myself in. Drawing in the bed? Perfect. Drawing on a desk? Perfect. Need it to stand upright? Perfect. I mean, it's got 10 different stand positions. The cover also turns off the screen, and it's got two perfect holders for the Pencil. One that charges it, and another that holds it uncharged, so you don't have to worry about draining the battery.

I've dropped my iPad a couple times in this case, and it is still in perfect condition. I also applied a matte screen protector. And while that initially made the screen a worse quality, I got used to it really fast, and it made drawing on the iPad a much more Wacom-like experience. I also got a grip for the Pencil. I do have to take off the grip in order to charge the Pencil, but because of this case's extra Pencil-holder, most of the time the grip is able to remain on.

The weight and thickness are great as well. Durability is fantastic. I've had this case since January, and it's held up perfectly. No stretching on the corners, like I've seen with Otterbox cases. My iPad has been through the ringer; I take it with me everywhere. I don't have to baby it, or worry about it bending. For several months, I had it in a basic cloth purse with no padding. And it survived beautifully.

I seriously can't recommend this case enough, haha.

u/JohnnyNorCal · 8 pointsr/iphone

I bought this one suggested by another reddit user a few weeks ago and I love it. Also seems to be easier to use and cleaner looking. I love it.

>I type a few essays for school every blue moon, but that's about it.

Do not underestimate the convenience of having two windows open at the same time. Yes, you can switch between Safari and Pages/Word/whatever with a swipe, but it gets old quick.

Also: you're going to want a real keyboard to type an essay. You do not want to do it with the onscreen keyboard. Period. If you're not doing a lot of typing all over the place (library, notes in class, etc), then I guess that means you don't have to get a tiny keyboard, which is good news for typing comfort.

I'd suggest either the Universal Mobile Keyboard from Microsoft (no joke) or the K480 by Logitech. Both of them are nice to type on while still small enough to fit in most bags.

u/kgyre · 8 pointsr/ipad

Consider the Pencil, and something like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071WXGD7F , if you're into writing by hand. Notes in iOS 11 is supposed to offer text search of handwritten notes.

And ignore anyone who says it's weird to take photos with it. This is the device you would look at those photos on later, so you're snapshotting exactly what you want to come back to later.

u/dregan · 7 pointsr/Nexus7

I ordered this one. It looks perfect but it won't ship until later this month.

u/ripitandstickit · 7 pointsr/ipad

u/imanomeletteAMA · 6 pointsr/androidapps

If you want a stylus, I suggest the Adonit Jot Pro, which supposedly feels like a real pen. There isn't any palm rejection, but things that do are very expensive.

u/Abi1i · 6 pointsr/ipad

Adonit Jot Pro stylus is what I've been using for over a year on my iPad. No bluetooth but is pretty accurate for me when I take notes in class. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00931K1QK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1409966820&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40

The N-Trig won't work. But the Samsung and these three will:

u/Renigami · 6 pointsr/Surface

While it doesn't have the magnetic connector nor the pocket clip, this pen functionally is better than the stock Microsoft Pen for the Pro 1 and Pro 2.

And much cheaper by Amazon price comparison.

I love where it holds the pencil. Its not a sleeve, but it keeps the pencil in place, but also handy when you need it. the little hole in at the corner holds the pencil lid when its plugged into the iPad to charge.

It's nothing fancy, but functional as hell.

(1) 45W USB C Power Bank & (1) 45W Wall Charger

I'm also using this case for my iPad, and this screen protector.

Hope this helps!

Does it absolutely HAVE to be a trackball? If a D-pad+software could be better, I could maybe build it out of a USB NES controller. I've already made one just for the sake of doing it, so it would be a piece of cake to make another shell to fit his hand. I know that's wired, but IIRC you can get adapters that can let you use USB stuff remotely (USB->adapter->goes through air->other adapter->USB port on computer).

I just found this too, would that work?

u/MonsterTea · 4 pointsr/tablets
  1. There are several types of digitizers. Wacom, N-Trig, Capacitive, and supposedly Synaptics on the new dell venue 8 pro. I'm not too familiar as to the actual definition of digitizer, but from what I know, there is another screen within the Wacom and N-Trig tablets allowing for better accuracy from the stylus and pressure detection. Capacitive is your standard tablet. Just touch screen, and you do have the option of getting a rubber ended stylus to try to write. However, it is nowhere near the technology of the Wacom and N-Trig.

  2. Capacitive is simply touch screen. As I have said before, you do have the option of buying a rubber domed stylus for the capacitive. A capacitive tablet won't be able to use the stylus from a Wacom tablet. Your tablet is a capacitive tablet.

  3. I'd say that note taking isn't that bad. People usually buy wacom enabled tablets for photoshop and note taking. If you find that the Asus t100 is decent with it's capacitive screen, then it shouldn't be a problem.

  4. If you're looking for a capacitive stylus, you might want to check out these:

    http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Corp-Bamboo-Stylus-Tablets/dp/B004VM0SE6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382554686&sr=8-1&keywords=Wacom+stylus

u/STUstone · 4 pointsr/ipad

I have a wacom bamboo stylus. It works well and feels good in my hand. Im no art major, but I was able to draw some neat things with it like casper and this guy with it. Don't pay more than $30 for it though, I just saw they raised their prices

u/flosofl · 4 pointsr/ipad

I had one of those pens and used it for years until I discovered Noteshelf. It was useful in that it synched with Evernote (which I no longer use).

These are my go to applications for work now:

  • For note taking I use Noteshelf almost exclusively now.
  • PDF annotation I use Goodreader, but I'm thinking of checking out iAnnotate
  • For OCR scanning I use Scanner Pro
  • For tasks I use Do It (Tomorrow) HD
  • For simple text documents I'm still deciding between Byword and iA Writer
  • For word processing I use Pages
  • For quick white board sketches I use Adobe Autodesk SketchBook. Yeah it's overkill, but I can whip out a quick and dirty diagram on this and it's actually cheap.
  • For more formal tech diagrams I use TouchDraw

I don't know if he uses a Mac desktop or not, but if so, this is the ultimate document/information/everything management platform:

DevonThink Pro Office coupled with DevonThink To Go

For a stylus, I cannot recommend the Wacom Bamboo stylus enough. It has the right heft and weight of a premium pen and the nib glides over the screen. As a bonus the nibs are completely replaceable as they wear out. I recommend ordering the replacements from Wacom directly. While it may take longer to ship, it's only 25% the cost resellers are charging on Amazon.
u/prc2 · 4 pointsr/Surface

I think you may have to go with the surface pro 1 (the RTs don't have stylus input, and the Del venue is too small imo). You can get refurbished surface pro 1's for around ~$400 on ebay I think.

Out of the box, however, the note taking experience won't be particularly great due to the not-so-great calibration of the pen and the pretty bad pen that's included.

I highly suggest buying the wacom feel pen (http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Microsoft-Surface-tablets-technology/dp/B00BVUQZZ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404214200&sr=8-1&keywords=wacom+feel), its $40 more, but it's rubber pen nib adds texture so it doesn't feel like you're writing on glass, and I find the cursor on the screen to track the wacom feel stylus better than the stylus included.

Next I would do the 273 point calibration, yes it's a lot, but it makes things oh so much better: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2171198
Also look though the wiki since it contains some really nice hidden gems (how to ad block on metro IE, DPI scaling, etc.)

The Surface Pro with LTE Advanced seems to match your needs. The LTE model comes with a nano SIM card slot so your AT&T 4G plan should work with it. With the current promotion, this model (i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM) is $1250 so its only just outside your budget, if that's fine. Keep in mind though that you would need to buy the Type Cover for the Surface.

I've seen a few rugged cases on Amazon like this one from Kensington or this one from UAG so those should be fine. Here's the Microsoft Store page for the Surface itself. You can also buy some of the accessories bundled together (like the UAG case and Type Cover) by clicking on "SEE DEALS" and going to "Bundle and Save", although there isn't much of a discount.

Edit: You could probably go for an older used Surface Pro as well to save money, but be sure to buy the LTE model otherwise it won't have a SIM card slot.

You have a few options, assuming you're using an actual computer and not a raspberry Pi.

  • Bluetooth Candy Board style remote. The Rii is on a deep discount right now. If you're on a raspberry pi, opt for a 2.5ghz one. I haven't been able to get bluetooth to work with my pi.

  • MCE IR receiver / remote. You can sometimes find them at Value Village, but ebay or amazon is good enough. These work really well.

The candy board style remote is nice because it's got a trackpad and keyboard. If you have a cat, they'll enjoy the laser pointer. The MCE remote is nice because it's a traditional feel -- on my system, I have both hooked up.

I recommend the Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard.

A large number of them have been DOA as of late, though, so you might need to go through a few returns to get one that works. Once you have one, though, you won't regret it. I haven't used it long enough to confirm the 6-month battery life claim, but I haven't charged it once since I got it in February.

Pinging /u/diggsentime

u/scottjl · 3 pointsr/ipad

My one bit of advise, skip the keyboard case and get a nice small bluetooth keyboard, and one or more cases of your choice. I've had several generations of iPads and a few Keyboard cases in my time. They are more expensive and have consistently broken on me. Of all the separate keyboards I've had, not one has broken, I've taken them with me between devices, and they've lasted years. You can buy far more or less protective cases, as you wish.

Just some recommendations:

  • https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PIMKN1Q/
  • https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AKCM5YG
  • https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GWGLUZ0/

The Microsoft is my favorite, but no longer available. the iClever foldable is my newest and I'm getting to like it quite a bit.

The only argument I can make for the 4G iPad is that it also includes GPS capabilities. If you want to use it for navigation, photography with geotagging, or any other location-dependent activity, you might want to consider it. It also grabs a slightly higher resale value.

The Pro gets you the Pencil, faster speeds, more memory, slightly better screen, larger sizes. If you don't need any of these, then no reason to get the Pro. The iPad can do anything a Pro model can do, except for hardware differences (Pencil compatibility and True Tone screen).

The iPad (any model) can handle note taking and basic office productivity very well. Apple's iWork apps are the "smoothest" and fit the iPad the best. But Microsoft Office is not far behind. Google's apps are shoe-horned to work with the iPad and the least "iPad like" IMHO. But since all are basically free to download and try I'd say give them all a chance.

I would recommend getting the 128G. You can't upgrade later and some day you may wish you had the space, especially for movies and the like. Transferring to and from the cloud can be a chore.

Guten tag!

I purchased this Fintie case in black for $12 from Amazon. It's a fantastic case. The fit is very precise, and the magnetic closure works well. I would absolutely purchase another of these cases in the future, and have recommended them and also been approved of by two of my coworkers.

Manufacturers headline:

u/tomkatt · 3 pointsr/theNvidiaShield

Oh yeah. It's easy as dirt to unlock and root. The stock ROM will remove root and TWRP on OTA updates though, just a heads up.

Fintie makes pretty great cases on the cheap. I've gotten their stuff for every tablet I've owned. I use this one since I like a heftier device and it fits well in my bluetooth controller's grips, but there's a slim shell one too more like the official case if you prefer.

I believe all 3 have been talked about throughout this thread, so if you search by their names, you can see how others feel about them (mostly positive for each one). I've been looking for one as well, though without the keyboard. Unfortunately, i don't think we have yet to have a stand that comes close to the fluidity of a Surface Pro hinge stand. I'm waiting to see if anything newer pops up in the fall (ideally hoping to see one with a trackpad). In the meantime, I picked up a Zugu case that has functioned pretty well.

u/MHC304 · 3 pointsr/ipad

Check out the Zugu case. I have it and love it and I think it’s exactly what you’re looking for. It’s on amazon too. A little pricy at $60 but it is definitely worth it imo.

I use the Zugu Muse case for the 12.9" pro, but it comes in a 11" model too https://www.amazon.com/Muse-Case-Protective-Convenient-Magnetic/dp/B07H7VK7K8

It has many viewing angles, and supports the Apple pencil. It provides very good protection and feels very sturdy. I have no fears of bending my iPad when protected by this.

Only thing is I feel like the screen more quickly gets dusty because the felt touches your lap/table/whatever surface you place your iPad on when using its viewing angles.

u/royksprekk · 3 pointsr/iPadPro

I have a Zugu Muse case, and it’s absolutely amazing. Built-in housing for magnetic pencil attachment, with a sleeve in back to carry it when you’re traveling and don’t want to risk losing it. Full protection, and eight possible stand positions. The button covers don’t have the annoyingly spongy resistance that other cases I’ve had have given me. Magnets in all the right spots, so things stay attached where they’re supposed to. Overall, it looks and feels premium.

It doesn’t have Smart Keyboard compatibility, but I’ve found that a decent portable Bluetooth keyboard takes care of that need, and although it’s not all-in-one, I like having the option to not have a keyboard in the way, as well as the ability to position it further from the iPad.

That's in the works!

You can certainly use Bluetooth keyboard/mice combos (something like this) with the M300, but the ideal approach is to use existing applications which are tailored to the user interface models of Smart Glass devices which don't rely upon touch-based input.

If you'd like any further help with your M300, please feel free to send me a PM.

Several of the Rii keyboards seem to work well on the raspberry. There are some tho which use 2,4Ghz band, but something proprietary and not bluetooth.

Honestly a Apple Trackpad might not be a bad idea. Just turn sensitivity up so he doesn't have to move his hand very much.

I recommend buying extra tips as I burned through a few when I first started, like $10 for a pack of three? I got better over time but at first I was learning the friction and grip needed, now it's smoother. #musclememory

This is the stylus I use. I like it because it fits in the little loop on the front of my case and it has replaceable nibs. My gf bought me one of those long Brookstone ones but I never carried it around because it didn't fit. That's probably the only reason I wouldn't consider that one. Looks nice otherwise

u/CrentistTheDentist · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Get the Poetic Slimline case. The black one was $5 when I preordered it, but I think it's gone up to $10, with the other colors being $15. It looks a lot like the ASUS premium cover and works great. Auto sleep/wakes the screen, feels and fits great, etc. I like the way it attaches much more than most of the other cases I've seen that just loop an elastic band over the corners or have weird claw things that grip around the edges.

u/sinoth · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Seems silly to protect the back of the case when it is already a sturdy material. I realize most people get this sort of case to protect from drops, but I'm not too worried about that.

Tube sock thing would almost work but I'm mostly trying to protect the glass from piercing damage. The most hostile environment the tablet has to endure is my wife's purse, which has all sorts of pointy implements. A leather or rubber case would protect from piercing better than cloth.

I came across this case which doesn't look too bad, but still seems thicker than it needs to be. The Dodo case looks amazing but the adhesive would make it difficult to remove the tablet. The official case bugs me because the front flap doesn't secure in any way. This one isn't out yet but seems to be the best of the bunch.

You know, maybe I don't give the glass enough credit. I have been using my current phone (Samsung Galaxy S) without a case for over 2 years, and the glass still looks great. There are some tiny scratches, but you have to reallllly look to see them. I suppose the big difference is the phone stays in my relatively safe pocket while the tablet gets tossed into the nearest container.

u/AwesoMeme · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I think the Poetic Slimline is pretty similar to the Asus case.

Personally, I prefer the Moko case for the lifetime warranty and a more stable stand feature. I also splurged for the carbon fiber texture because it looks and feels really nice.

u/loganizzi · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

I purchased this case when it was first available and they had a few problems with the original builds. I just received my 3rd version of this case (all replacements free of charge) and I have to say that this time they have it perfect.

I would highly recommend this case to anyone who is looking for something with a solid feel, very slim profile and built in stand functionality. It also has a smart cover. The 7 fits very snuggly into the case.

Company I purchased through sent all replacements without any request or inquiry on my part.

This is the one I use. It has a precision tip. I really like it. But you have to be careful if any small particles get under the little plastic disc on the tip, it could scratch your screen. The easiest way to prevent this is just to use a microfiber cloth, and wipe down the screen before use.

Only recommendations would be getting a Wacom Bamboo Feel stylus. They are much heftier and have a much better pen feel than the regular stylus and a Freedom case. The freedom case makes up for all the angles you lose by not having a surface pro 3 while looking really nice and protecting the easy to scratch back of the surface. They both completed my surface pro experience and I can't recommend them enough.

u/TCMGhost · 2 pointsr/chromeos

Forgot to mention you will want to pick up a different stylus for the Chromebook for heavy usage. The portability is excellent with the provided stylus but it is designed as a "add on" for people doing quick notes rather than the professional artist. My hand does cramp due to the barrel size of the provided stylus. While the ones I linked aren't the only choices you need to make sure you get the ones designed for the older Surface tablets and/or Wacom compatible technology. I think there are a few subreddits posted about this in the Samsung Chromebook subs...

Over 2 years ago, I reviewed this mount, here's what I wrote back then:

"I can vouch for this mount. I got it about 3 weeks ago for my iPhone 6+ because I'd be traveling a lot and it has held beautifuly. I have a VW beetle and the only thing is that the little foot that holds to the front panel of the factory stereo blocks/presses the buttons, so I just installed it upside down and it fits perfectly. I love it and it hasn't moved, bounced, wiggled or anything in the +5000 km I've put in my car since buying it."

Anyway, 2 years later the thing is working as new, the spring that holds the movable lip hasn't faltered, the inner lips that hold the thing in place inside the cd slot haven't damaged anything and the outside of the cd slot isn't scratched. Hope this helps.

I checked a few older threads and here are a few links to suggested covers:

Fintie

Omoton

MoKo

They all bend backwards and have auto wake/sleep. They all have different colours and designs.

These are the regular covers. There are also some neat covers called origami that fold in the back, making a little stand for the Kindle. Here's one by Fintie. Seems like all these brands have them, so just search and choose your favourite.

Note: those links are for the Paperbacks versions. If you go with the Voyage, just search for that version.

I have the Fintie SmartShell case, and I don't really like it. Perhaps it's the tablet, but it doesn't seem to reliably wake or sleep the device, and on occasion when I close the flap, I can hear my finger presses being registered by the screen; and when it does that, the screen does not shut off. I would like to buy the official case, but I just don't have the money right now.

Edit: This case, for anyone wondering

u/Crasty · 2 pointsr/theNvidiaShield

I recommend any of these.
I have one, and it's fantastic. I've heard bad things about the official cases. I don't worry about mine at all. I also don't drop it from standing heights on the regular. If you are going to use it to play hockey, I'd get something thicker.

I've got intelliarmor on mine and it is probably the best screen protector I've ever had for a device. Speaking from personal experience, I would go with this Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

I was in the market for a machine so my daughter could do her art without covering our house in the inane ramblings of an 8 year old, so I started digging into convertibles with pens. I finally settled on the SP4.

It's extremely lightweight, the magnet attachment for the keyboard and power are fantastic features, the pen is really great and accurate, and the display is absolutely beautiful. I really suggest the i5/8GB model, since you can't upgrade it, and I would suggest getting this UAG Case as well. I tested a number of cases first and landed on that one, as it allows the keyboard to snap to it without removing the case or having any other weird addition like the Otterbox one has.

Also keeping in mind that the Surface Pro Type Cover is separate, it is on the high end of your budget. But something that will last all day (in power saving mode), and be extremely easy to carry around with a good quality pen is well worth it.

u/lincolnhawks1 · 2 pointsr/Surface

I've used this rugged case for the past year: UAG Rugged Case. Pros: I could probably crush someone's skull with it if they attacked me during my commute. Cons: heavy (14 oz), the joint for the built-in stand is kind of flimsy, heat is not dissipated like it needs to be and the battery drains faster than normal. Looking at the other posts, I'll probably get a screen-protector and maybe a lighter case.

I find myself taking my SP out of the case quite often because I like the way it looks and the full range of positions with the SP stand vs the case's stand.

The following method will allow you to make a screenshot, even if you have a modal window on the screen. Modal windows (typically you have to press OK, Cancel or X to close them) will prevent any other actions taking place, including making screenshots from second screen controls or using volume button combinations.

http://www.amazon.com/Bamboo-Stylus-for-iPad-CS100K/dp/B004VM0SE6

The tip is replaceable, if you can find some, I ordered 3 replacement tips directly from Wacom a while back, but I don't have the link to it right now.

>Back when I used it last, I don't think it had much handwriting support outside of diagrams (this is okay for me... I hate handwriting on the iPad).

Have you checked out the wacom bamboo pen?

u/MonkeyDog453 · 1 pointr/Android

I use this on my razr maxx: http://www.amazon.com/Bamboo-Stylus-for-iPad-CS100K/dp/B004VM0SE6

It works great, I mainly bought it to use on my transformer but works fine on the razr as well.

u/Histocorder · 1 pointr/tablets

@FelixR1911 - You need a powered usb hub. The micro usb port doesn't have enough power to do much more than a small thumb drive. I bought this http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Micro-USB-OTG-Adapter/dp/B005QX7KYU/ref=pd_bxgy_pc_text_z to cover the fact that it doesn't have a usb port...and that small device gets bonus points for working on my nexus 7. I can plug this into my vivo tab smart then plug in my nexus 7 and put files on it like a normal android device.

I use a wacom pen http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Corp-Bamboo-Stylus-Tablets/dp/B004VM0SE6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1376960389&sr=1-1&keywords=bamboo+stylus+solo

u/ScumbagInc · 1 pointr/asustransformer

I had bought a Monteverde mainly because I needed a ball point pen as well as a stylus. Great pen; not so great stylus.
I just picked up a Wacom Bamboo and I must say its reputation is up held. The hands down best stylus on the market.
Also don't forget to install TouchScreen Tune if you are going to be using your TF201 with a stylus much.
If you plan to do a lot of note taking I would however suggest the keyboard.

u/oreotragus · 1 pointr/worldbuilding

This is the stylus I have (just a normal kind): http://www.amazon.com/Bamboo-Solo-Stylus-iPad-CS100K/dp/B004VM0SE6

Yes, I zoom in for the coastline as much as it will allow - 3000% - and I use a pencil tool anywhere from a radius of .25 to .5.

I forgot I tried out the Poetic Slimline too, which was pretty close to perfect, but I wanted more protection while traveling and just havent swapped it back on yet.

Thanks for saying you didn't like the Moko, reminded me I even had the Poetic Slimline anymore. Hahah

looks good, has the magnets for the auto wake, and can be propped up. not bad for price at all

u/hnilsen · 1 pointr/Nexus7

It hasn't been released yet - due to release 20th of August. All the pictures I've got are the ones from the amazon site: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008NMCPTQ/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d11_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1F78MSBK1GFF5462M4KN&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=317828027&pf_rd_i=468294

What makes this my choice (albeit I haven't personally seen it), is that it's got a hard back that covers the device, it's got a smart cover with magnets that close and turn off the screen that can also turn into a stand. And it's sleek as a motherfraker.

If it fits into the Nexus 7 as well as the THIS fits the Kindle Touch, I'm going to be a very, very happy man.

u/pfc_bgd · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I have this one. Got it about a month or so ago and had zero problems with it. Does what it's supposed to, has the wake-up magnet, Nexus 7 fits in there very nice and tight.

u/EllKayHaitchBee · 1 pointr/Nexus7

I'm not an artist or designer, but the best stylus I've tried yet is the Adonit Jot Pro.

u/nzt0002 · 1 pointr/ipad

I actually had no idea about the kickstarter thing, haha. I think some of their more expensive ones may have app integration, but mine is just the stylus. Here it is on Amazon.

I have heard it will cause tiny little scratches on the screen if something gets caught between the disk and your screen (like dirt or something). I don't really have that problem since I got a screen protector. If you were to get one I'd definitely suggest getting a screen protector. Ever since I got it the stylus writes a lot smoother (sometimes it'd skip during writing).

Definitely look around though. I went through the same thing you did a few months ago, and the Adonit Jot Pro just works for me. Here is a good thread from a week ago about styli in case you want other suggestions.

Hope this helped!

u/jackruby83 · 1 pointr/Nexus10

I recently did a continuing education program (~200 pages) with about 120 assessment questions. Using ezPDF as the reader, and an amPen stylus (http://www.amazon.com/cell-phones-accessories/dp/B008MOHLVC), I was able to highlight with reasonable accuracy and mark up the PDF with handdrawn circles/arrows, although I would suggest a more fine tip stylus for good note taking since the width of a standard stylus isn't really too much better than a carefully maneuvered finger. I haven't tried it, but the Adonit Jot Pro has some good reviews (http://www.amazon.com/Adonit-Stylus-iPhone-Kindle-Tablets/dp/B00931K1QK/ref=pd_cp_pc_0), and came recommended by folks on this subreddit, but it was a bit pricy. For note taking during class, I don't know how happy you'd be with note taking from any tablet though, IMHO.

u/zhonathanreiss · 1 pointr/ipad

I go to a school that implemented a 1:1 iPad program, and while many of us started out using the cheap rubber tipped styluses, I, and many others, have found that the Adonit Jot Pro is the best one to go with. I've had to get on my hands and knees to search for the tip twice, but I think it's worth it. It's much more accurate since you can see through the clear disk.

u/starfighter23 · 1 pointr/ECE

I got an iPad for this purpose because I felt that as tablets go, apple are the best at it, and anything i needed the freedom of android to do I could use my nexus 5.

I found that it's usefulness as a notetaking device really depends on the way the notes are distributed. If you're given copies of the lecture notes ahead of time, you can upload them to google drive or dropbox and use a good pdf annotater to scribble small diagrams or make text notes on them as you go through the lecture.

This is definitely better than paper copies, since you can zoom into small images and annotate in high, vectorised detail. I bought iAnnotate PDF for about £7, and it was definitely worth it - it syncs your annotations automatically, so as soon as you're finished it'll be uploaded to the cloud and you have copies of your annotated notes online. You can add things like bookmarks and links to quickly jump through the document too, which is nice.

However, if you're not given copies ahead of time, it's pretty useless as a replacement for pen and paper. I didn't buy an expensive stylus, I just bought a cheap rubber/foam thing which I didn't end up using much at all. I had a friend who had a similar idea to me and spent about £30 on this. It's pretty good and gives you the precision of a ballpoint, but scratches the screen if you don't use a screen protector. He gave up taking handwritten notes with it anyway - it's really difficult to do effectively, and you're probably better just using paper.

So the upshot was in my first semester of 4th year everything was distributed in advance - all I took into uni with me was my ipad, and it was great. I had lovely digitally annotated notes available from any PC. In second semester nothing was distributed digitally and I had an irritating mixture of badly organised notes on the ipad and scribbles on a stack of paper in my bag. If the iPad wasn't such a good way to reddit from bed I'd probably be disappointed in spending so much money on it, but as it is I use it a huge amount to procrastinate so it was a good excuse to buy one.

u/Capt-Psykes · 1 pointr/Android

This isn't a direct Android related question but does anyone have any experiences with any good quality Stylus? I'm getting the Nexus 9 and plan to get this to edit PDFs etc on it. Would appreciate any input.

I also go between Bamboo Paper for short notes and One Note which has a decent ability to zoom out and pan down so you never have to "add a page" you can just create really long pages. My writing improved immensely once I purchased an Adonit Jot Pro non-affiliate amazon link.

Supposed to be much better, but it lacks the eraser, and I dont think they can add more buttons on this variant of the wacom tech.

u/MMEnter · 1 pointr/Surface

For the Freedom Case: www.freedomcase.com/watch and tonce you have it a lot of trying out. I got myself a Wacom Stylus and stretched the loop on the Case to with the Cap in so I can now easily remove the Pen and put it back on without worrying much about loosing it, other then that I can't give more tips to the Freedom case it always deepens on how you use your Surface.

Microsoft Office what do you want to know? What is your use case? If you are short on money get a outlook.com account and you can use the awesome web Apps that get you quiet far and are great for teamwork.

OneNote Desktop - for Free (legal) for Desktop Use for Heavy Pro users (IMO)+ OneNote Windows Store App for just taking basic notes and touch/ Stylus use. Let me know what your use case is and I may can tell you more about it. I recommend getting the App for your Phone as well (WP user by any chance?) its out for WP, iOS and Androide.

http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00BVUQZZ2

The charcoal version should be good as well.
http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00BVUR07Y

Though untested, this one seems to be compatible with the Surface Pro and Pro 2:
http://www.wacom.com/en-us/products/stylus/bamboo-smart

Generally, most pens that work with Galaxy devices with stylus work with Surface Pro 1 and 2 since both uses similar Wacom's technology. However, I wouldn't always count on it. Note that Bamboo Feel styluses do not come with an eraser.

If you aren't sure, there's always the original Surface Pen that works well.

So I found your review on Amazon. So this pen works with the SP2, right? So far I only have the Bamboo Feel Pen and the Fujitsu Pen. I prefer the Wacom pen for precision and accuracy, but it lacks a second button and an eraser. Have you had a Wacom Bamboo Feel pen before? If so how does it feel compared to the Wacom UP-911E-02A?

P.S.: Thanks for sharing btw. Gonna get this for my SP2 when I can.

I personally have a magnetic folio case and I absolutely love it. Besides protecting your kindle, it also feels amazing in your hand and gives you better grip while reading. I got the affordable Inateck Sleeve Case. It fits the SP4 with type cover nicely, though I keep the pen kind of sticking out of the front zipper pocket on it. Note I usually keep this inside of my laptop backpack for work, or a duffel bag when traveling light or visiting. So it is not my primary case/bag. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XJBDBUI

Btw if you want a cheaper one, while searching I saw some more cases with their own stands. The stand wasn't metal like this one tho, it was like a typical iPad stand where it folds to hold the device up. Just search for "surface pro 4 cases" on Amazon im sure you'll see it

If I can make a recommendation... The Kensington Black Belt Case allows you to use the kickstand on the Surface Pro, which is better than the one in the UAG case. Still works with the type cover, holds the Surface Pen, and is a bit cheaper.

I got the Smart Keyboard as I am trying to use it as a laptop replacement-ish. But I also just picked up THIS. If Apple ever releases a 10.5" silicone back I will probably get that as well. So far on Amazon all I've seen are transparent backs (that support smart keyboard) and I would prefer something grey or black.

u/Le_Groundhog · 1 pointr/ipad

I got this one for my 11 pro https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KHJOXOM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There's a very soft material inside of it. In addition, the pockets fit my charger and extra cables.

u/cmoses78732 · 1 pointr/ipad

I purchased this sleeve and really enjoy it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KHJOXOM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I do not have the same case you have but I have the Apple Smart Keyboard and I can put the iPad in there with that and there is enough room to also put the pencil in the main compartment between the iPad and the zipper. So I would think that you could probably get that case inside the sleeve even with the pencil extension.

So a couple things the poetic cases are pretty awesome and so cheap that I thought they were too cheap and held of buying them for a bit.

iPad Air 3 Case (10.5 Inch, 2019), iPad Pro 10.5 Case, Poetic Flexible Soft Transparent TPU Clear Back Cover with Pencil Holder, Compatible with Apple Smart Keyboard and Smart Cover, Lumos, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4LHPZE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tAQHDbH7TAW53

The default keyboard IMO is much better than people give it credit for, I have no issues typing on it or using it. Also since they haven’t changed it you can find it on sale for a lot less than msrp. Apple Pencil comes with the charging adapter so you don’t have to plug it into the iPad, and it doesn’t need to be charged all the time. Also since it is the same pencil you can find some good deals on it as well still a bit much.
Personally in the same situation I found a used iPad Pro 10.5 64gb with pencil and keyboard for 450 and have no regrets (maybe 64gb)

I just ordered a poetic case from AMZ, should be in today.

I use and love the Poetic Lumus soft case. Mine is the transparent grey version and I could not be happier.

EDIT: lol, why on earth am I being downvoted

I just looked for something on Amazon with lots of reviews that averaged high. I got a case last year for my Pro, I didn’t like the two piece design of the Apple stuff but wanted something to cover the back when I went outside and laid it on the picnic table and such. Something similar to this

Once you find something you like the looks of you can probably find it on eBay for half price and free shipping. They will be listed under various brands, I got mine off eBay for under $10 about a year and a half ago, use it everyday.

I use a third party (ESR) smart case and no screen protector. I really can't stand screen protectors on the iPad (I've tried!), although I do have one on the phone.

My iPad Air 2 lives in my bag "as is" with the case, and it's 1 year old, hasn't got a single scratch on it.

This is what I have for my Air 2 (read the reviews):

I got the version with a holder for the pencil and it's great. Good texture, fits well, and holding up great. My only complaint would be that the covered
powe and volume buttons are a little clunky to hit, not bad at all though.

I got this one for the 10.5 -- assume they make one for the 9.7

It works well so far.

Arriving this weekend.

  • the bonus - it hides the apple logo. :)

It’s a great stylus, love mine. On a side note, the ZUGU muse case has the best stylus storage implementation I’ve seen in a iPad Pro 2018 case to date. It’s definitely worth the ~$60-70 price tag (depending on size of iPad) imo. Tons of adjustment for tilting and the reviews are stellar (I own one as well, definitely recommend)

u/Ragazzimus · 1 pointr/ipad

I have the same fears and doubts. Most cases seem to be extremely fragile on their own, let alone with an apple pencil attached/wirelessly charging. I'm currently looking at the SUPCASE UB Pro Series and the Muse Case.

The muse seems great to work with, but seems to lack protection.
The SUPCASE seems to have great protection, but kinda unbalanced when standing.

u/unitedstatesoftyler · 1 pointr/iPadPro

As far as accessories go, I definitely recommend the Apple Pencil. I personally didn't go with the smart keyboard - instead, I opted for a foldable bluetooth keyboard. Others swear by the Apple Keyboard, but I just couldn't afford it.

I've heard amazing things about the Zugu Muse Case, but I personally got the Ztotop Case.

I wound up going with the 11" iPad Pro because it felt better? I recommend going to an Apple Store/Best Buy/Costco/etc., and just handling both devices IRL. I thought I wanted the 12.9", but after holding it for a while, it felt too big.

u/LostInInaka · 1 pointr/ipad

Check out the the Muse case by Zugu, should cover most of those bases (except for #4)

u/miguelenri95 · 1 pointr/iPadPro

iPad Pro Case

I have to say this is one of the best cases you can ever get, just check out the reviews. Study enough to protect your investment but slim and stylish. I use this along with the Apple magic keyboard 2. I have tried others but I keep going back to the Apple keyboard. It connects quickly, battery life is amazing, you can use shortcuts (including the top function keys). You won’t regret the Apple keyboard. It’s small enough that it doesn’t bother me and the space in my backpack and it’s not always attached. I don’t need it all the time.

Link if anyone else is curious.

u/xrabbit · 1 pointr/ipad

of course! because it's laptops!

tablets require other level of protection. this case is good for laptops, but it's not protect from bend and this make it unusable for tablets. modern tablets can be bend easily, so you want to carry it, you have to think of sufficient level of protection.

what the author of the video do is like working with knifes or other sharp staff and then whine if he cut his finger.

if i will be the owner of 12.9 ipad then i will use something like this

Zugu makes a really nice Italian leather one. It also has magnets built it so you can hang it on the refrigerator or something magnetic. Has spot for 1st gen and 2nd gen Apple Pencil

I'm using this "paperlike" screen, but only because it provides enough friction to make my writing and drawing less slippery: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QMV54LY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And I'm using this case:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1M4PHY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That's about all one can do. Once you handle the iPad Pro for a while, you'll realize how "unbendable" it is. It's pretty solid. Just treat it reasonably carefully and you shouldn't have a problem.

Reviews highly recommended this one for good reason. I am more than happy with it.

This is all you need. Get a smart case with it from Apple. Amazing case that I genuinely think about how happy I am with it on a daily basis.

Edit to add: You don't need the smart cover with the keyboard. The regular cover works perfect and adds virtually no size at all.
