  • Anker 40W 5-port USB charger (~$26). Great for charging multiple devices, and it'll act like like a 12W charger for the iPhone 6/6 plus (faster charging) and iPad. It also comes in white if you need to color-coordinate. :)

  • Most people don't need one, but this Anker 10000mAh USB battery (~$26) is pretty nice, too. It's about the same size as an iPhone 6, but about 0.65" thick. While Anker has a wide range of batteries, I like this one because of the size, relative flatness (some batteries seem bulbous), and slightly recessed power button (some are raised, which makes accidental pressings easier in a backpack).

However, while this can charge an iPhone multiple times, it will not fully charge an iPad (maybe 0.8 of a full iPad charge?).

  • Gorillapod stand (~$16). Useful for portable time-lapse videos.

(I have no connection to Anker, other than as a customer.)

    Edit: fixed link to battery

I do a LOT of production for major television networks. I often have to help amateurs learn the basics for simple shoots.

Let's pretend you're using your cell phone camera (which is fine for most things like this).

Photography/Video basics:

  1. Never have a light source behind you. (if you stand in front of a window or the sun is at your back then you will show up as a black blob.)

  2. DO NOT SHOOT VERTICAL VIDEO. It won't showcase well on any television or computer. Plus it's hard to frame up two people vertically unless you're a mile back. If you are doing something SPECIFICALLY for snapchat or instagram then vertical is fine. Don't record the whole thing in vert.

  3. Audio will be a nightmare. Plan to use music instead of the actual audio... if you find a quiet place to perform than use the actual audio from there. Have your camera person be quiet. You don't want them laughing and talking over you.

  4. Shoot wide. She needs to get you and the spectator in the shot. Nobody wants just close ups of hands or heads chopped off of bodies... remember you want to see the performance AND reaction.

  5. Feel free to move the camera around, but try to keep it steady while doing so. Hand-held is fine, but flopping the phone around or running to a new vantage point during a trick is bad.

  6. GoPro's are great, but will be fisheye no matter what. I'd suggest a phone for maximum usability. Really only use GoPro for artsy angles once in a while. Or sit it on the edge of a table to get a super wide pov.

    TECH STUFF:

  7. set your camera to 4K resolution and 24fps (if available). This will give you a file that is four times HD so you can crop out stuff and push in as needed to give a second camera effect. It will take up a LOT of space so dump it off of your phone at the end of each day (also make sure your phone has a lot of space left before you start filming).

  8. Bring a hard drive with you. You'll fill up a laptop... bring a drive with lots of room for 4K footage.

  9. Don't cut during a trick. Record for 10 seconds before you start and at least 10 seconds afterwards. You don't want to stop the video as soon as you finish. You want plenty to work with in the edit bay. Also if you cut from one camera to another during a trick it gives the viewer a spot to say "Hey, he just did some tricky camera shit." Let them see the whole performance in one take.

    -----------------

Buy a cheap phone grip, selfie stick, monopod, or stabilizer... It'll help with her fatigue over a 8 min trick. That's a long time to hold your arm up with a phone. These guys will wrap around poles and hang from anything. In addition having a cheap pistol grip will do wonders for stabilizing.

Make sure to buy one you can attach a phone mount or GoPro to. A monopod is a great way to set up the shot you want, hit record, then babysit it without fatigue. It will wobble when you hit record, so give it a few seconds to calm down before you start. This is the best bang for your buck. It allows an unmanned view and can be used as a stabilizer AND see over crowds or over your shoulder.

If it's another comic it shouldn't be a problem. Some people may not want to be bothered though. If I were you I'd just order something like this and not worry about relying on anyone else.

I wrote this guide for better nude and erotic mobile photography a couple years ago, and even though you’re talking about a DSLR camera, many of the tips are more than applicable. Enjoy, and have fun!

—-

Photo Tips for Mobile Phones

  • Ensure good lighting - if you don't have other gear and a phone is all you have, keep the lights up in the room and use natural light where possible. This will prevent photos from being underexposed and/or grainy and gritty. You can even strategically use some lamps or smaller lights closer to your body while keeping the room lights down.
  • Use the phone's rear camera at all times. Though it may seem convenient to use the front facing camera so you can see the shot you're taking, it's not as high quality a camera as the rear camera.
  • Crop photos, don't zoom to take them. Digital zooming on a mobile phone degrades the photo quality. You're better off cropping a photo you've taken that wasn't zoomed when you took it.
  • Use a tripod of some kind. The Gorrilapod is a great option since it can stand freely on its own or be wrapped around something (headboard, chair beside bed or couch, ceiling fan for a birds-eye view, etc). JOBY GripTight GorillaPod Stand - Flexible Universal Smartphone Stand for Small Smartphones including iPhone 6, iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GHYMB6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1J8Xzb16X8FCC
  • Use a remote control to take photos, like this: CamKix Wireless Camera Shutter Remote Control for Smartphones – Create Amazing Photos and Selfies (Blue) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0113W5ZOO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZK8Xzb1N6CVZD This allows you to position the camera, and be at a distance from it, and freely press the shutter release button on the remote to take photos. In conjunction with a 3 or 10 second timer, this gives you plenty of time to trigger the photo, conceal the remote, and pose for your photo.
  • Use focus lock when you're going to be at a distance from the camera. A great way to do this is to place an object on a bed (or wherever you are taking photos), such as a pillow, that will be approximately where your body will be. Think of the pillow as a torso - will you be focusing primarily on your lower torso (ex: below belly button) or upper torso (ex: chest)? Focus lock on those approximate areas, or somewhere in between to ensure consistent focusing. Lock focus on this, then get in position and fire away with the remote.
  • When taking fully nude photos, remove underwear about 45 minutes to an hour before you take photos. This helps prevent panty lines, and bra strap lines from being visible on your skin.
  • Photo Editing Apps: Don't overuse them, but sometimes it's fun to explore editing and consider making black and white photos out of color photos. VSCO Cam is one of the leading apps out there, with film simulation presets to quickly set a certain mood and tone for photos.

    Photo Inspiration
  • Subtlety tends to keep people wanting more. People enjoy what they can imagine; it's a great build up to full reveals or more detailed / graphic photos. Photo albums that run from clothed to unclothed to posing to touching always excite people.
  • Explore sites with great nude photography, like www.kindgirls.com, for example, for inspiration on poses, outfits, etc. It's fun to find a photo gallery you like and take a shot at emulating each of the photos.

    Safety
  • Always be cautious and careful of what you post that reveals personally identifiable details, face photos, etc. Some of the bigger subs warn about "what goes on the Internet stays on the Internet." Many people don't foresee the risk in revealing themselves to a degree that they can be identified.
  • Learn how to remove EXIF data from photos so there are no identifying details, such as location, lingering in the photos. On the iPhone, I suggest the app called “Investigator” to clear EXIF data.
u/Truant_Muse · 5 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

This might sound silly, but if you have a newer iphone you can take pretty good pictures with it using the self timer. I use a wine glass, just set your phone in it, it is the perfect size that allows the camera part of the phone to show out the top and stabilizes the phone while it shoots.

You can also buy tripods for your phone.

u/akimbojimbo229 · 5 pointsr/Bowling

Glad you figured out what's going wrong! :)

Also, I can't echo your conclusion enough: stringent critiquing of video of yourself is an AWESOME way to practice. There's a couple sizes of smartphone-sized Gorillapods (small and large) that make this super easy to do.

u/fanserviced · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Totally!!!! And it's cheap-ish! Amazon link. My photos got better once I used it with a Gorillapod (Amazon link).

u/crrude · 4 pointsr/disney

There are 2 mounts on his chair. One is on the handle to get his PoV. The second is mounted by his feet looking back at him to get his reactions. I am really glad I did this, as we caught some pretty cool things.

I am guessing you are interested in the removable mount that is on his handle. I got the Fotopro UFO2 from amazon. It's a flexible tripod with rubber legs that really worked well. I didn't have any problems with it slipping or moving. I used it for various applications from making a 2 hand grip with a wider base to holding 1 leg and wrapping the other 2 around my arm while on a ride so I couldn't drop the camera. It really did work well for me, and I would recommend it. As of this post, amazon has it for $20.99.

The lower mount is a bit of a cobbled together rig. I started with a Ram Mount brand base that we used to attach his iPad to his chair when he needed a communication device. I took the iPad mount off and used a gopro clamp to mount the 2nd camera.

Plenty of microphones you can find online will plug into a DSLR or your phone if there's an audio jack (3.5 mm).

Here are a few I found:

Very low profile and not distracting, better when worn on your shirt.
This is more for when you're static and you aren't moving around too much.

More of a vlogging style mic, won't get tangled in your shirt.
You can move around with this more as there is no cord. I do suggest that if you use it with a phone you have something to mount the phone on such as a gorilla mount.

You'll still have to edit the audio levels in post, but these are pretty good options for what you are looking for.

u/CasuallyCompetitive · 3 pointsr/xboxone

Microsoft partnered with a company to make one that attaches to your controller. You may be better off with one of the flexible tripods though; not sure how annoying it would be to constantly be looking down at your phone or holding your controller high enough to see your phone. I know when I play Xbox, my controller is in my lap.

>He creates a daily 30+ minute window where the kids act badly, that he can document as 'poor parenting' on mom's part, because she's got a hand behind her back so to speak.

Yes, he is most definitely doing this on purpose. Note that the "nanny nanny boo boo" and constant misbehavior is going to look a lot worse in court than cutting short a phone call. First, let's give Mom another hand:

https://www.amazon.com/UBeesize-Tripod-Flexible-Wireless-Upgraded/dp/B07837W5NX/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1526573402&sr=8-8&keywords=cell+phone+tripod

Figure out a place to set it up. Perhaps on a coffee table pointed at the couch or a child's dresser pointed at the bed. Put down some lift off tape as markings so you don't have to re-position it every night. You have absolutely zero duty to be following the kids around the house for a video call. "You have to be on the bed or couch so your dad can see you" works just fine.

Now Mom can more effectively discipline and kid corral.

>Because when she does, father asks her not to do that during his "one phone call" with the kids.

Hey guess what? Not everything is about him. My house. My rules. "I do not permit bad behavior in my house." His precious 15 minute phone call is no excuse to allow the children to engage in a free for all.

>He uses this same rationale to not scold/punish kids during mother's 5 minute call when he has custody every other weekend.

Feel free to tape his lousy control over his children and refusal to discipline. Get a couple of tapes of particularly awful behavior at his house and then text them to him with a polite message asking that he do more to facilitate your phone calls.

I really really recommend that you send my suggested email first before making any sudden changes. This will give him time to process, it will be an excellent defense if he tries to claim that you are just cutting of his calls for some spiteful purpose, and is much less likely to lead to massive conflict than if you suddenly just pull the rug out from under him by cutting him off at bedtime.

I have one of those flexible tripods for smartphones and it's worked great for me. You just have to buy a screw adapter for it if you're using a standard shockmount. I believe this is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07837W5NX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YeJRCbPZAASTT

It's a tripod so I don't have to have a spot to clamp it. It can wrap if needed which I've used to put on a steering wheel for those quick makeshift VO sessions, for example. They haven't been huge issues, but the two things I don't like about the particular one I got is that the it's very easy to press the quick release buttons on the plate. Also, it's very easy to "overscrew" the adapter.

I can see that there aren't many links to the Hero 6 Black, is this because it's not the recommended camera?

I was thinking about buying a H6B for scubadiving and parachuting, and actually came here to ask for help with the SD-card. (I know there is a post about it, but I couldn't find any information regarding H6B and 128GB cards) I was thinking this one and an underwater housing with red filter. Also the Shorty or the Handler.

Would this cover my bases?

u/juniortennisplayer2 · 2 pointsr/tennis

We don't use a lens clip, just a stock iPhone.

We use this specific clamp: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GHYMB6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_GOuHwbDNV9VXX

Usually my friend will have a small ladder or stepping stool to get the angle facing down just right. I recommend setting the clamp a little bit higher than the top of your reach (to get tosses of serves on the near side), but you'll need to play around a little to get optimal footage.

We normally record the warm up and check the angle of the video before starting the set. :)

For $122 (100 pounds), you can't buy a dSLR with lenses and everything else you need. The minimum price for a respectable result out of such a system is $500 (that would include lenses, filter, stabilizers etc).

So, use your phone. What you can buy is mini stick-holder like this one https://www.amazon.com/qubo-Mini-Tripod-Camera-Holder/dp/B07JGXPYL5/ ($20), and use the rest of the money for a clip-on variable ND filter ($20), the Filmic Pro app ($15 with in-app purchases), tripod ($15, Amazon), and a mini shotgun mic ($35, like the Movo one). You'll need to engineer some way to secure the mic on top of your setup btw, because there's no hole to put it. You need the ND filter in order to force your camera to get down to 1/50th shutter speed (which is important for movies), and you need the Filmic Pro app to get full manual controls and LOG footage that color-grades better.

You'd need another $75 to get a used gimbal, but you might not need it at all if you're careful with the stick holder.

u/whiteSkar · 2 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

I see. sounds good.

If you are going to train in that place for a long time, might be good to buy some phone tripod. It might make you be able to record better and check your forms before you make bad forms in to a habit without knowing it.

I'd recommend getting a phone mount with a tripod screw hole so you can use any tripod. I have the Joby GripTight mount and though it is more expensive than some of the other offerings it is about the only one I could find that would work for the Lumia 925 (it straddles the lock button and opens wide enough - a lot of the cheaper options grip the phone in the middle, which would hit the lock button, or only open wide enough for the smaller iPhone). It grips the phone securely and feels like a quality item that justifies the higher price.

As for tripod recommendations, the Velbon DF-61 is very good value for money though being a full-size tripod may be a bit on the large size to carry with you on holiday. I have heard good things about the GorillaPod (and that particular item seems to come with the GripTight mount mentioned earlier) though have not used it myself.

u/nevergreen · 2 pointsr/TeenMFA

you can also get a tripod for your phone like this one. if you don't have anywhere to prop your phone against this could come in handy plus it's not expensive

I know you want a solution that keeps the hardware you're familiar with but a ten year old scanner is invariably going to need to be replaced in the near future anyway so please bear with me for a moment and I promise my solution is not only very simple to set up but you can do so very cheaply or even virtually free...

To start, there are other much more reasonably priced document scanners/projectors for well under $1000 (for example this one for $450, this one for $200, and this one for $100 ...and those all just came from the "customers who viewed the DC260 also viewed this product" section...)

  • Honestly though, if it were me/my class I would just use an old smartphone or small tablet mounted on one of those bendy tripods.

My mom is also a teacher and the first time I read about a grading app (like this one) almost 10 years ago I set up a similar scanning/projector setup for her with my old smartphone. There are tons of similar apps that will function as a photo scanner and "grader" and it's very straightforward to connect the output to a display/projector.

u/Cinnadom · 1 pointr/crossfit

I have this mount, got it as a gift for christmas last year.

I never use the thing anymore, I use a simple tripod mount with a phone mount instead. The large issue with this is the orientation of the phone in the mount. If you're putting it onto a squat rack, the phone is always in the vertical orientation. It has to be on top of bottom of something to be horizontal like most videos are shot. Also if there are square racks set up, you can't rotate the phone at all at an angle unless you move the racks themselves. So you're pretty limited to where you can set up the phone.

I just bought a flexible tripod mount and use that anywhere I'm at. Is cheaper than the perchmount and able to be used in many more types of locations.

I'd wager that this is a legit reason to use your phone camera in the gym. You're not Instagramming yourself, you're worried about your form and don't have a lift partner to watch you as you do sets. Consider getting a little tripod, film yourself with low weight or just the bar (especially on compound lifts) and watch it back immediately to see what doesn't look right and make adjustments from there. Once you're comfortable with your form, then start upping the weight. You can't (shouldn't) train if you're injured and bad form is a quick way to getting hurt. At a minimum, bad form doesn't properly work the muscle groups you're targeting and will slow your progress.

I haven't done Max Size, but Jeff knows his stuff, so it's probably a pretty good program.

Consider the Fotopro flexible tripod: https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Control-Adapter-Smartphone-Fotopro/dp/B073GW4ZWM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522150856&sr=8-3&keywords=fotopro

Instead of using a lot of joints like a Gorillapod, it's one long stick of rubber that can somehow bend and retain shape.

Not this old version

You might look at the Joby Grip Tight

You can get a cheap device like this from Amazon, which will hug the sides of the phone to hold it in place and add a standard 1/4" tripod mount to the bottom. If you want an all-in-one kit, the Joby Griptight Gorillapod is a good option for $17.

I think I may get this tripod, so I can do more video stuff with my phone. Wholesome video stuff. Comedy stuff. dig the whole deeper, Rosa.

But I'm also eyeing this paired with this so I can start focusing relaxing at home, and maybe it'll convince me to clean my room. MAYBE.

The GoPro branded poles do not offer a button or trigger to start a recording or take a picture. For this you need to use the remote or the app on your phone.

However, there are some poles (SP Pole for example) that have a built in mount for the remote into the handle.

Or Im sure theres a way you could build a make shift dock for the remote onto a GoPole or any camera pole.

I use a Joby GorillaPod Stand to record on my phone. Works great and a good investment if you plan to record yourself a lot over time. I've had mine for a few years and it still holds well.
