Broken dishwasher, broken washing machine, broken dryer. Dishwasher now fixed but we don't have a dryer at all and our washing machince just buzzes and doesnt wash. Ended up going to the local laundromat to do all of my laundry and sheets. Still not sure if we're renewing the lease. Maybe I should just find another place to live >(

I bought project highrise during the summer steam sale. That was a lot of fun. Oxygen not included is hard for me. I can't get the whole filteration system working (air and water)

Bought a game called Mint works. SUPER FUN! EVEN IN SOLO MODE! I'm going to go play some more of it right now. Can't wait to try playing it with other people. I do have a few other board games coming from amazon: Pandemic, Treasure Hunter Game, Gloom Second Edition: Unhappy Home expansion, Dairyman, monopoly deal, and i preordered splatoon 2

I finally was honest to myself and worked on my budget and student loan repayment plan. Budget looks kinda ugly. I'm terrified. There's never going to be enough money in this world... Also, I've been overspending like crazy. I'm really good at budgeting when I see the numbers. I was just in denial for the longest time because I wanted to treat myself. I didn't have the "college experience" so i went out a lot, ate out a lot, and overall threw money at crafts and animals. I'll have to be more findful now.

I wanted to get another hobonichi, but realized that they won't have them for 2017 anymore. I started looked at other notebooks. I do have a midori, but I don't really want to use it for bullet journaling. It gets quite expensive because I want to use that and keep that more as a notetaker/jot it down. I bought this STALOGY which looks pretty good. I'll be keeping an expense log, bullet journaling, and random notetaking in it.

I bought a vintage sewing machine recently. The singer slant-o-matic. I used them as a middleschooler in home economics and it's 100% BOMB. I was thinking about getting a more modern machine, but went Nah. The set I bought also came with a bunch of extra bobbins.

Last week I was at a fair and saw some people doing pillow lace/bobbin lace. It looks so awesome. I want to try it! It's a bit costly to get started though... I'm going to hold off on it for a while and use nontraditional materials to make some lace.

Since I'm really struggling with making friends and DOING SOMETHING that's not gaming, redditing, animals, and cleaning... I figured I could go take some community college classes (interior design, fashion, flower arrangement, etc), cello lessons, piano lessons, modern dance/ballet/jazz/hip hop lessons, sewing lessons, or something like that to get me out of the house.

On Wednesday, I went bouldering for the first time. I'm a bosssssss. JK. I haven't worked out in ages. My arms basically fell off when I woke up thursday morning. Couldnt even flush the toilet, open the fridge, or open the door. They even felt swollen. My legs were fine though. Normally with swimming, I get soreness in my core and legs. This is definitely a new muscle group I'm not used to have pain in. I've been taking some tylenol to help with my pain. Not sure if I like this enough to go back. I stopped going to the gym because I specifically didn't want large shoulders. IDK why when I work out, my shoulders just get bigger and bigger. My torso is a XS/S but my shoulders are an M. I'm absolute terrified of heights as well... So...maybe this isnt the sport for me. It's fun though! I'd go again, just wouldn't get a gym membership for it.

IMO, Bang!: The Dice Game is superior in every way. If you prefer cards to dice however then Samurai Sword is also really good.

I own both and prefer Samurai Sword, but Bang!: The Dice Game works with a wider range of ages and the games are quicker so it tends to hit the table more often.

u/magikarpgills · 5 pointsr/reddeadredemption

I had a Pirates of the Caribbean liars dice set that I thought was pretty cool. I agree an RDR themed one would be amazing!

u/casematrix · 4 pointsr/mechwarrior

I've been an avid reader of the Battletech books and played through all the MW games on PC, along with the Mech Assault 1&2 on Xbox. I wanted to try out the tabletop game myself so I recently purchased the Beginner's Box. Check it out. There are a lot of expansions to the tabletop game with more mechs and scenarios.

I just purchased a giant bag of 20 sets ($30AUD) from AmazonAU and a nice metal set for my Paladin.

Here is the metal set, I’m super excited for these ones to arrive.

I like yours too, they’re pretty.

Edit: the 6 and 9 on the d20 are hard to read, is it the top of the triangle? Like there’s no line underneath to differentiate them?

Edit 2: oh, there’s a dot underneath, never mind lol.

Buy whatever games you want, I own CAH and Munchkin too and I do not care if anyone hates a game I enjoy.

They sell them separately as an expansion pack but it's a pretty ridiculous price for the garbage quality. Really only worth it if you're looking for some chaff to practice painting on.

So this one component of Role Playing Games is the Role Playing aspect. And the funny thing about the role playing aspect is how vague it is. What they don't tell you though is that is boils down to one word: listening. You don't have to be an over the top thespian to play the game: you can be interesting in smaller ways, but listening to those around you clues you in on how you can fit in. Also it sounds like you're doing this more from a players perspective right? I mean most of the DM and player role playing can be interchanged, but wanted to make sure I'm reading this right.

The DM has the your character start interacting with NPCs and asks you a question and you're deer in the headlights stupid at what to say. Yeah, I've been there too. The easiest way to do it: what would you do in that situation. That's the easiest way to do it, just be yourself.

Mostly it's an acting thing. You can find different actors on their technique and style on youtube, but also take note that some actors make a whole career on just being themselves. Harrison Ford, Jack Nicolas, and Sean Connery come to mind. Hell, Conner was a Russian with a Scottish Accent! And an immortal Egyptian with a Spanish name and a Scottish Accent and a Japanese sword. You don't have to master any of it, just have fun with it! So if you feel more comfortable being yourself, then do that.

But the big secret of acting is listening. You don't try to control the table or be highly animated. Really, the best actors are those that listen to everyone around them. Then they know their cures, how the scene is playing out, and how to respond to everyone around them. Think about a normal conversation you have with someone: if you're not listening to them it's a pretty one sided conversation. If you are listening to them, then you can have a very in-depth and great heart to heart. So always listen to everyone around this. This goes double for DMs. You can speak and listen at the same time: you just pay attention to those around you, to their body language. Also you don't have to speak to be a part of the RP: you can act. You're character might find it better to just do. They might be the type of person who will just dive in and figure out the solution later then try to debate it now. That's an OK player to have.

What can also help: making a character that is fully fleshed out. There's always the "what's your characters backstory?" like where were they born, what did they do as a kid, how did they become an adventurer, what is their goal as one? Those things, things that can help with plot hooks. What is also equally important, and often overlooked by everyone is: what do they do in their downtime? What do they do when not being an adventurer? Do they like cooking? Do they like painting? What is their favorite color? If you had to pick a theme song to the character what would it be? What do they think is best in life? Those details can help flesh out who you are trying to be and give gateways of things to do. They also can open up great RP doors: instead of just sneaking up on guards, ask them what they are saying and doing. Then, when the DM says something like "....uh... they are talking about... puppies?" because you caught them off guard you can be like "hey! I just happen to have an opinion on puppies too! And I am pretty good in [insert social skill here]. I'm going to talk to them to try to distract them so everyone else can get inside."

Also find ways to describe your character without using what they look like, what costume they wore, and what their profession is. Red Letter Media did a Phantom Menace review that hits on the importance of these traits. You're now describing the person your character is, not the paper they are on. If your fighter the strong silent type? Cool, what does that mean? Does it mean that they are straight forward and honest with their dealings of others, and joined the group because they were originally a servant of another [evil] race that felt slavery was the best thing since sliced bread, and could not unit the two competing attitudes? Or are they a starship captain who is on the far side of the galaxy and has to make tough decisions: a cool as a cucumber attitude but stern attitude. No one out here can fail, so they'll hold the crew to the highest standards, but if/when we do the buck is going to stop right at their feet.

Another way to do it: Rory's Story Cubes. I use these as a GM when I'm stuck or a player starts talking to an NPC I didn't plan on or what not. There are a couple different sets out there, and you don't need all of them. You don't even need to roll more then one. Just grab a few, roll them, and starts talking about what comes to mind from what you see. They're meant for kids to tell stories with. You roll them and start telling a story. Super useful for RPGs as well. The players start talking to the bar maid more then I expected? Well it turns out (rolling some dice: jester cap, harps, mirror, gnome, frog) she's a little racists to gnomes and calls them frogs. The rest of the dice, don't really care about, the only two that helped me were the gnome and the frog.

You could use them as a player too: stumped as to what to say? Roll them and see if anything comes to mind. Try to apply it to your character. You don't need to roll all of them, you don't need to use all of them, just toss them and see what comes to mind. You might pick one up and have a thought.

As you do it more you'll get better. The main thing is listen to those around you.

u/gregumm · 2 pointsr/boardgames

They've added Dairyman, a TMG game that looked kinda fun.

Rahdo did a run through a while back. Dairyman

u/qbann · 2 pointsr/Seaofthieves

Pirates of the Caribbean Liar’s Dice I’ve played this game at a friend’s house and it’s great fun because you have to trick the other person into thinking you’re telling the truth or not. I’d love to do this over voice chat with a “Yes” or “No” option to see if it’s a Lie or not.

>So this one component of Role Playing Games is the Role Playing aspect. And the funny thing about the role playing aspect is how vague it is. Listening shouldn't be a problem really, if anything it's more that I don't stop listening in some cases. I am generally GMing at this point but yes the game that prompted this was a con game where I was playing. In general though I'd say I'm really bad at coming up with ideas fast enough that the conversation hasn't moved on by a couple of steps by the time I have a relevant and good idea. Other people just beat me to the take and then I don't feel there's much for me to do. I'm also just really bad at accepting the spotlight, but some games kinda demand it.

>The DM has the your character start interacting with NPCs and asks you a question and you're deer in the headlights stupid at what to say. Yeah, I've been there too. The easiest way to do it: what would you do in that situation. That's the easiest way to do it, just be yourself.

I think in this case the issue may have been more the type of game we were playing. It was fairly open and not a lot of structure, and the conceit of the game is basically that you stay in a scene until each player has roleplayed their own scene. The other players are able to spend points to intercede on the scene and change things (in ways I admittedly didn't fully understand, which didn't help). The game was also a bit pvp and the characters have their own secret goals as well as the group's collective goal, the personal scenes are supposed to advance or in some way tie into the secret individual goals.

Part of the issue I think is I'm bad at coming up with things without much of a prompt to work off? When the responsibility of launching and interacting with the scene is more largely on me than the back and forth of more traditional games I find it uncomfortable and hard to chain things together in a way that's meaningful or advances things, if that makes sense. Feel free to ask if I've explained anything badly..I couldn't really nail down the words I wanted. If I had to nail it down to one sentence I find it hard to take the sole spotlight in games where that is what I'm supposed to do?

>What can also help: making a character that is fully fleshed out. There's always the "what's your characters backstory?" like where were they born, what did they do as a kid, how did they become an adventurer, what is their goal as one? Those things, things that can help with plot hooks. What is also equally important, and often overlooked by everyone is: what do they do in their downtime?

That's fair. In this case it was a convention one shot game with premade characters in a system that was very mechanically light so the characterization was pretty much purely being developed during play.

That said you're very much correct that this type of thing is something I typically struggle with, I'm not great at creating deep characters from a story perspective and I'm not really terribly sure how to improve at that either. I guess in that case it would be more writing advice that I'd want to solicit.

>Also find ways to describe your character without using what they look like, what costume they wore, and what their profession is.

Yeah, I think this too is definitely something I struggle with.

>Another way to do it: Rory's Story Cubes.

Thanks, I'll take a look at these and see if they help out.

For the dice games, a dice cup and/or dice tray are apropos. I'd suggest a cheap copy of Farkle just for the dice cup, w/lid: http://www.amazon.com/Patch-Products-Inc-6911-Farkle/dp/B004W8P5A6.

If you hold the lid loosely, it won't stick to the cup, so when rolling you can set the cup lid-side-down then lift to reveal the dice.

Without a lid, you'd have to slam the cup on the tray which would be problematic for anything else on the tray being jostled.

This should go on vacation with you , because it will help you to kill time when you need to and have a few laughs and fun along the way. I bought it for my husband's birthday and we're taking it with us on our vacation too! Small and easy to pack!

I love Colorado...we spent our honeymoon there in a private cabin overlooking Pike's Peak. Amazing time!

Have an awesome time and a safe trip!

If you like Yahtzee, you might like Farkle. It's another dice-based game that is a lot of fun.

Left Center Right Dice Game (about $6) - My husband's family plays this every year at Christmastime and uses dimes or nickles instead of chips. When a dozen people are playing this simple game, it is fun and the winner gets all.

Last Word (amazon claims around $18) - Great party game. Subject and letter cards and a buzzer that goes off at random times. Try to get the last word in that fits the subject and first letter to get to the finish.

Any themed Fluxx (around $13) - We own 2 versions, zombie and monty python. New rules like "groan like a zombie when you draw certain cards or lose a turn" and "all 3s are now 5s" keep the game really fun with the right type of people.

Doodle Dice (around $13) - Kiddish game, but fun. Think yahtzee but with the ability to steal player's points.

Wits and Wagers (around $18) - Played once or twice at a friend's house, really fun with at least 4 people.

Quelf (okay, okay, this one's more like $25+, but worth mentioning since it I don't see it often here) - Think cranium with mostly action cards. Last time I played I think I was wearing a self-made scuba mask and couldn't bend my legs or arms when it wasn't my turn. Potential for many laughs if with the right type of people.

I also agree on Pass the Pigs.

u/tcypher · 1 pointr/BacktotheFuture

ok, so, I want Props, Props, Props!!!

I'm not makin' a DeLorean, yet! ;)

This thing lights up when you shake it and you can store the dice and score cards and instructions in it. I'm not sure if I want to use it as a dice shaker (instructions indicate)... 'cause I want the internal electronics to last longer... but it's a fun quick prop for pics and the atmosphere! Got my BTTF Yahtzee game here.

For not being a full size replica, this is freakin' cool!

That's my walkman from highschool - still working and placed for size comparison.

The A-maze-ing Labyrinth is one of my absolute favorite games that I played growing up! I realize that probably isn't a selling point, that I liked it as a kid, but every adult I ever played with loved it as well. It's a really unique and fun game that I can't recommend enough!

Farkle is a fun, quirky game that I've played with family friends a few times while camping. It's dice based, and I know that's a turn off for some people in regards to games, but I'd still recommend it. =)

As far as video games go, you gotta play Portal 2 co-op!! It's so fun and challenging and awesome. And the story will blow you away. I'd definitely recommend playing this after Portal 1 as the story will be even better, but it's not something you have to play in order.

Also, Battleblock Theater is a really fun co-op game! A little puzzly, a little platformy. It's really cute and funny!

Have fun! =)

I wish I knew your budget so I could figure out the price range to go for but here but I'll try to suggest something from three ranges.

First Is like to recommend any dice from chessex. They are a great company and make dice that are well balanced. You can pick them up at your local card/comic/board game shop for around 8$ a pack. The nice part about cheeses is it comes with a non bag see through case with your dice that makes them great for showing off.

An awesome dragon puzzle that you both can put together and hang on the wall after your done

Boss Monster is a fun boardgame where you try to kill the heros instead of the other way around. It is quick to pick up and a fast play if you have a limited time.

Quarriors if he likes boardgames and rolling dice this is for him. It's a dice board game that functions like a deck building one

Do something like this Reddit Games Night from Denver, and you'll have piqued my interest. You lost me at your list of "games".

I'm a grown-ass man, and I want some grown-ass games, like Catan, Splendor, Dominion, Power Grid, Puerto Rico, Werewolf, Bang! (which is amazing when you've got 20 drunken people around a table all slamming their cups'o'dice on the table at the same time every turn...), etc.

Find that in your heart, then...then you might entice me.

Oh, and the 15 year old needs to be welcome, too!

Oh, Oh! And more than 8 hours of notice would be good, too!

Welcome to the game; it’s my favorite, hope you enjoy. The beginner box is a great place to start.

If you end up enjoying that, I’d recommend getting the main rulebook for ‘Mechs, the Battlemech Manual, and a digital copy of the “records sheet 3039 Unabridged” digital copy so you can print them easily.

Then some 3039 miniatures and you’re on your way!

If you have more questions, stop by anytime.

We have a lot of fun playing LCR with my nieces and nephews. It's super simple and yet a ton of fun.

Basically there are three dice that have an L, C, R, or a dot on the face. You put a set amount of poker chips (or dollar bills) in front of each player and then roll the dice. You pass chips or dollars according to what you roll, to the person on the left, the right, or the put in the center.

The last person with chips or dollars left wins the pot.

There are several rule variations that can make it exciting and we've had luck with kids around 4 years old playing it. https://www.amazon.com/LCR-Center-Right-Random-Color/dp/B000F9YDKY

It's always nice to feel a genuine connection with another fan of something, even when it's in the middle of a salt mine commiserating about the terrible conditions. I also got my start in Battletech through MWO, and I've been a fan of 40K since playing Dawn of War with my brother. They're franchises I love dearly, I've whittled away so many hours looking up lore and discussing them online... but their video game offerings leave so much to be desired.

On the bright side, while video games continue to absolutely suck industry-wide, the Board- and Tabletop-game industry has been experiencing a massive renaissance.

Lately I've been falling hard for 40K's smaller Kill Team rules, allowing me to play pitched battles with a wide variety of teams and units. If you were ever into 40K previously, you probably already have the stuff needed to try out Kill Team. Alternatively, if price has been a factor keeping you out of the hobby, you might want to check out this smaller, faster game. For many factions, you'll need only the one box to start with. You don't even have to invest a lot of time or effort into painting anymore, if you look into Games Workshop's line of "Contrast" paints. If your Tyranids should be tan and purple, you spray-prime them white and apply these tan and purple inks to them and voila! The ink does 90% of the work! You might not win any painting contests with them, but I can absolutely attest that they work quickly with little to no experience, and look a hell of a lot better than bare plastic. They also just released a game called Warcry that basically does the same thing as Kill Team, but for Age of Sigmar Warhammer.

As for Battletech, it looks like the tabletop is making a strong comeback as well: Here's a link to the currently-running Kickstarter. There are already a Beginner Box and a Full Set available to purchase and play using new MWO-style plastic sculpts, cardboard standees, and updated rules. It pretty much takes MWO from our computers and puts it back on the table. If you wanted to get into the game right now, you can pick up the quick-start rules (free) or the full manual, and then Record Sheets for the mechs. All you'd need is some tokens to represent the mechs, and a hex-grid map to play on. Unlike 40K, you don't really need the miniatures in the same way, since Battletech is closer to a board game rules-wise. The more I've looked into it, the more I realize that the old books spread rules across volumes and volumes of books that you can still use; the new stuff just seems to be re-written so that everything's in one place and it's easier to tell which rules are "core" and which are optional. Full disclosure, I'm already a backer of the Kickstarter. I'm clearly not getting my MechWarrior fix here, might as well put my Mech Money into something tangible, like the spiffy Clan and IS minis coming out of this Kickstarter. Hell, the KS even lets you pick up the stuff from the previous two boxes, so I can get all the Battletech in one place and mix-and-match my favorite mechs from my time playing MWO.

Anyways, I hope some of the above has been helpful or interesting. If nothing else, the takeaway is "you're not alone". We can take solace in that, at least. For my part, I'm just shifting my focus to the greener pastures out there and hoping that one day someone makes a game worth playing. In the longer term, I'm actually studying Game Design myself, in the hopes of making the video games I want to see done right. If in the next few years you see legally-distinct indie remakes of X-Wing/TIE Fighter, MechWarrior, Armored Core and/or an actually-good 40K shooter... I'm not saying it's me, but it might be me.
