If you want to get into it, I suggest getting the "Verve Unmixed" compilations (1, 2, 3, 4), so you get a good sample of a lot of great Jazz artists.

|about|'Al' Bowlly was a popular singer in the United Kingdom during the 1930s, making more than 1,000 recordings between 1927 and 1941. His song "My Woman" was resurrected as a chart-topper in 1997 as Your Woman. Bowlly was born in Maputo, Mozambique, 1899, to Greek and Lebanese parents who met en route to Australia and moved to South Africa. He was brought up in Johannesburg, South Africa, and killed by the explosion of a parachute mine outside his apartment in London, England during the Blitz.|

Why yes, I am a bot. I've been requested to comment in this subreddit.
Please let me know if I made a mistake!

he's put out several albums, including this one

u/ndgeek · 2 pointsr/gaming

At one point it was available on CD. http://www.amazon.com/Where-World-Carmen-Sandiego-Rockapella/dp/B0006HWFY6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1300730486&sr=8-2 apparently it's viewed as a collector's item (at least by the sellers on Amazon). I have a copy floating around my house somewhere, but it hasn't been seen for some time. I'm guessing it's in something else's case.

Can I recommend the Jamey Aebersold series, especially the Maiden Voyage book? That's what I recommend to everyone who is starting to play jazz.

They mention two albums they've done together after the first tune. Echoes of an Era is these four, Chaka Khan (vocals), and Freddie Hubbard (Trumpet). Griffith Park Collection is these four and Freddie Hubbard.

I think much of it is available on spotify under the album name Soundtrack.

Some of it's on youtube.

Holy shit he made the first recording of Epistrophy (as Fly Right).

So many good pianists, where to begin? Have you checked out the Maybeck Recital series? The concert by Stanley Cowell is one of my favorite albums, Toshiko Akiyoshi really good as well..

Right now I'm listening a lot to Pastorale by Steve Kuhn, and a few albums by Enrico Pieranunzi (1685: Plays Bach, Handel and Scarlatti is superb. I'd say it's my favorite, but it is from 2011 so it hasn't yet stood the test of time. Trio: Dream Dance, Plays Morricone, Seaward and many more).. Eddie Higgins is good.. Ray Bryant's Somewhere in France is nice.. Fred Hersch plays Jobim is great. En Vivo piano solo by Ernán López-Nussa is also worth a listen.

Brad Mehldau as mentioned by someone else is of course the obvious recommendation for a modern jazz pianist, not obscure at all but brilliant. Live , Live in Marciac and Highway Rider would be my picks. One trio, one solo and one more ambitious undertaking (with his regular trio + Joshua Redman and a Chamber Orchestra)

They recorded a great album together. It was Duke sitting in with Armstrong's band, playing a bunch of Ellington tunes. Link

CDs like compilation LPs are a bit difficult in this situation because many of the Fallout songs were recorded as singles before the invention of the vinyl record album in 1948.

The Atomic Cafe soundtrack has a decent compilation of Fallout songs; it’s easy to find as a record though the CD version remains to be seen. Highly recommend the DVD of the documentary.

This 2004 CD, It’s De Lovely The Authentic Cole Porter Collection, is the original album that “Anything Goes” comes from. The original 1934 recording just has piano and Porter’s voice, but the CD overdubs it with extra instruments by Vince Giordano. Its overdubbed version of “You’re the Top” is also used in Bioshock.

New Vegas uses some newer songs from 90s CDs which can be hard to find. “Where Have You Been All My Life” and “I’m Movin’ Out” were originally released on these 1998 and 2003 CDs. These fall under the category of library music or stock music and similar stuff is also found on the CDs.

Otherwise with the aforementioned problem of singles vs. albums you may have to choose between general 40s compilation albums or individual artist compilation CDs.

Lastly, there was one official soundtrack CD for preorders for Fallout 3 with 3 radio songs that can be found floating around.

If this were about the original records, that’s a whole other can of worms.

I love the jazz idea. I recommend the 4-CD box set from Proper Records, The Arranger's Touch. It sells for around $30 and I've found it on ebay before.

For a little more money you could get Ken Burns's Jazz: The Story of American Music. It's the soundtrack to his 10-part jazz documentary.

While I recommend the Ken Burns set a little higher, both sets include quintessential tracks/artists and are arranged in, more or less, a chronological order.

Really?!? I live in Ottawa. I'm gonna have to look that up. Also, The 2 box sets covering Bill Evans' last week-long show are AMAZEBALLZ!
